What is better polo or aveo. Comparison of Chevrolet Aveo T300 sedan and Volkswagen Polo V sedan

Before the engineers and designers of the largest automobile concerns there has always been a difficult task: how to make an affordable, recognizable among competitors, safe and popular car for the masses of motorists? We will look for the answer to this question in a comparative review of the “affordable sedans” so beloved by the domestic consumer, as they are positioned by the manufacturers themselves.

The Chevrolet Aveo is already in its third generation. Production of the new model began in 2011. This car is a front-wheel drive compact "B" class sedan, also known by the nickname Sonic. Most cars received a modern atmospheric gasoline unit of 1.4 and 1.6 liters, which can optionally work in conjunction with both automatic and manual transmissions.

Volkswagen Polo model is not new, but it is the sedan that is the novelty that was created specifically for the markets of the CIS countries. The front-wheel drive B-Class is an extended version of the Polo hatchback platform, but has its own distinctive features. The model was presented to the public in 2010. ICE options are limited to a 1.6-liter gasoline "aspirated". A choice of automatic or mechanical transmission.

The cars presented in the review have 1.6 liter power units paired with automatic transmission.

Appearance

Chevrolet Aveo

From the front, the car looks very aggressive and unexpectedly fresh for a budget sedan. The main role in this is played by the non-standard modern cars head optics. We are used to seeing round twin headlight wells on Italian Alfa Romeos or BMWs from the era of the 90s, but not on a modern mass car. The wide hood has distinct ribs, which even allows us to talk about a certain amount of "sport" in the appearance of the front. The corner grille puts an impressive end to the overall perception of the Aveo's front.

The side part succinctly continues the given note. From the back to the front there is an inclined line of stamping at the bottom of the doors, rapidly pulling the sides of the car. The rear is of particular interest. Looking at the car from behind, bitter disappointment immediately arises. There is no trace of sports aggression left! And the point here is not at all the narrowed trunk lid, which looks on the body of the car like short trousers sitting out of size on a lanky youth. It's all because of the taillights, which would fit a completely different car. They are wide, slightly reminiscent of a rectangle with beveled lines, arranged vertically. The design of the rear looks cheap and fails.

Volkswagen Polo Sedan

The front of the sedan is made strictly, ascetic and very "German". There is a significant resemblance to the Polo hatchback. Differences are only in the strokes: a narrow radiator grille with chrome stripes, a strict front bumper with landing niches fog lights. Sharp "logs" in the lines of the head optics and a large corporate logo make the car recognizable, steadily following the general design concept of VAG. It turned out to be a kind of "intellectual", who was going to take part in a street fight for the first time.

The profile looks a little stretched, but this nuance is well concealed by the “step” of stamping at the bottom of the doors and a strict line above door handles, which stretches from the edge of the taillights to the very edge of the front lights. The round gas tank hatch is able to bring its own special charm, if we consider exactly the side where it is located. The back part, unlike the Aveo, did not receive any design frills. In the list of potential state employees for personal purchase, Polo confidently takes its place in the top 5 main contenders for the purchase. The look is caught by simple rear lights and a slightly narrowed, taut and strict trunk lid. The ironed lines of the bumper successfully complement the overall picture.

If we consider cars exclusively from the front and side, then the Chevrolet Aveo looks much more profitable than Volkswagen Polo Sedan. It is more modern, bold and youthful. Also, the car will appeal to middle-aged people. A surprise will await you only when you decide to follow with an admiring glance a pretty little car with a bright golden butterfly passing by. Be prepared at least for surprise, and to be more frank, then for complete disappointment from appearance car stern. Polo Sedan is not preparing any surprises, checked! Go around and look at it at least a hundred times from any angle, but a strict and concise design idea dominates everywhere, giving the impression of reliability, quality factor and ... boredom! The usual Volkswagen sedan, only a little smaller.

The winner is the Aveo model. One way or another, Chevrolet designers have achieved the main goal! The car is of interest and attracts increased attention, which cannot be said about the Polo Sedan model.

Salon

Chevrolet Aveo

Surprises await riders in the car, this time they are pleasant. Solid plastic, although it is the main finishing material for most elements of the interior space, everything is assembled with high quality, without cracks, rough cuts or gaps. The main color was black, which was diluted with inserts and finishing of functional elements with chrome.

The most interesting solution in the interior of the sedan was dashboard. It is made in the "motorcycle" style, representing a combination of an analog tachometer under a small visor, as well as a large digital display that displays large numbers of speed and other useful information. For some drivers, this decision may take some getting used to, but after 5 minutes behind the wheel of a car, everything falls into place. The speedometer is informative, the readings are read just fine. Externally, the dashboard is rectangular in shape, the numbers are clear, you should not be afraid of flare. It turned out stylish, non-standard, innovative. In a word, the surprise was a success, being very successful.

The seats in the sedan are made of high-quality fabric, pleasant to touch. The profile is implemented as standard for a machine like this price category: mediocre lateral support, poorly developed lumbar support. The rigidity of the seats is average, nothing unexpected. Seat height adjustment is available, and the power reserve of the backrest and cushion in the planes should be enough for the driver of any build. The pillow may seem a bit short for tall drivers.

Now a few words about the design of the dashboard and center console. An important element on the dashboard became such things as airflow deflectors. These round "ventilation" holes on the sides look very stylish and expensive. The designers did their best, the front of the cabin looks fashionable and modern. In the center are the usual rectangular airflow elements.

The next position in the interior that attracts attention is the center console itself. It protrudes above the common plane, received a functional shelf on top and side "ears", which are convenient open niches for storing small items. Emphasize this beauty silver lines in the upper part, which are contours. This is followed by a nice multimedia device with a medium-sized longitudinal narrow screen and two stylish controls at the extreme points. Button elements are placed in a separate area a little lower. Looks beautiful, do not say anything.

The climate control unit is located under the center console ledge and is painted grey. At the top is an alarm button, and the bottom serves as a place for three large climate control knobs. They are round and have chrome rims.

Steering wheel has a large radius. Against the backdrop of the dashboard, it seems even larger than it actually is. The rim is comfortable to hold, although it may feel a bit thin. Three-spoke steering wheel, multifunctional. Has the ability to adjust the reach and height.

The central tunnel is sloping, separating the driver and passenger areas in the front row, but it cannot be called very high. The gear selector lever has an ergonomic teardrop shape. Next comes the parking brake handle, which is classically located. The central armrest can be called "decorative", as it is narrow and does not promise high comfort in long trip.

Aveo's interior is filled with a large number of functional niches, drawers and compartments. The ergonomics of most solutions are excellent, there are no complaints about the functionality of the cabin. Illumination of the dashboard and control elements is made using blue, white and yellow colors.

In the back row, everything is much simpler, an ordinary sofa and boring dark plastic. There is a strong contrast compared to the front seats.

Volkswagen Polo

Strict German "classic" climbed into all corners of the interior space of a compact sedan. The high-quality texture of the plastic material, the excellent fit of the dashboard elements immediately attract attention. A minimum of chrome and a maximum of black became the main colors salon Polo.

The seats are made of good quality fabric, pleasant to the touch. The profile is not rigid, everything is balanced for a typical city car. There is lateral support, but it is expressed at an average level. The anatomical structure of the chairs did not cause any comments, it is comfortable to sit and comfortable enough for the back and lower part. There are enough adjustments, you can change the height of the pillow, actively adjust the backrest, etc.

The central panel received nice rectangular air vents with soft outer corners. Chrome rims dilute the ascetic black color of the dashboard.

The console itself is designed to simultaneously protrude, but not visually stand out above the common plane. The upper part has a pair of deflectors, then there is a longitudinal row of function keys with a central emergency button. The audio system received a fairly wide monochrome display and two nice knobs on the sides that have a chrome finish.

The climate system has a similar design, only the screen is much smaller. It is worth recognizing that it is not always convenient to recognize the readings of the climate system from the driver's seat. It may sound a little picky, but it seemed so subjective.

The overhang of the central tunnel ends with a large niche, inside which is located the light of the cigarette lighter. Next comes the gearshift lever itself. He is not very tall, he received a very comfortable handle and a thin chrome belt. The parking brake lever takes its usual place for most drivers.

The central armrest proudly rises above the "handbrake", not particularly interfering with the full use of this element. The armrest itself is wide, with good support for comfort on a long trip. Under the parking brake handle itself, there is a small recess for small items, which seems to be a convenient solution. No need to look for a place in the cabin for improvised little things.

The steering wheel has an excellent diameter. The steering wheel itself is light, three-spoke, multifunctional, covered with excellent material. You can observe a light chrome finish, which fits very organically into the overall concept of interior decoration.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the armrests on the door cards. Their width is quite enough to not only lean on, but also to completely put the left hand in moments of downtime. The shape of the armrest itself also contributes directly to this function.

The dashboard is classic, without any frills. Tachometer and speedometer scales, and between them a trip computer. This element has a small diagonal, but given its convenient location, information is read without any problems. The main colors for highlighting elements are white and red.

The assessment of the interior should be given with one significant amendment. Everything will depend on the age of the appraiser, his aspirations and personal preferences. Adherents of the classics will be quite satisfied with the functional and modest design in the Volkswagen Polo. There is nothing superfluous, everything is in its rightful and painfully familiar places. For those who strive for novelty and modernism, the Aveo salon will definitely look. It has style, personality and charm, which is perfectly combined with functionality and ergonomics. Chevrolet designers surprised with their bold decisions once again, and in the interior everything looks exclusively with positive side. The Chevrolet Aveo captivates with its modern look and style, becoming the winner at this stage of the comparison of the two sedans.

Driving performance

Chevrolet Aveo got a front McPherson with a stabilizer roll stability. The rear part has a semi-independent, spring suspension.

Traction at the bottom is typical for a city sedan, the engine comes to life only in the middle rev range. This nature entails slightly increased fuel consumption when trying to set and maintain a brisk pace. Noise isolation is average, the engine is clearly audible in the cabin with an increase in speed, and the wheel arches are reminiscent of the change in the quality of the asphalt surface at speed.

Chassis settings allow you to comfortably move over small bumps and minor pits. The suspension is afraid of larger potholes, willingly breaking through with a deaf mumbling blow.

The steering wheel is light and crisp, with a well-defined zero position. On a straight line, the car willingly keeps a given trajectory. It should be borne in mind that the car is characterized by a small windage. Demolition of the front and rear axles can begin much earlier than many people think. So it is not worth breaking the thresholds of permitted speeds with active maneuvering.

Brakes and electronic systems form a tandem typical of a low-ambitious representative. Front mechanisms are disc, and the rear received drums.

Volkswagen Polo sedan was equipped in front with the usual McPherson with an anti-roll bar. At the rear, the sedan has a semi-independent, spring suspension design. Pickup is fairly even throughout the rev range. The sound insulation of the engine compartment is at a sufficient level, but the wheel arches are slightly inferior in terms of the quality of the interior protection from external noise.

Running energy-intensive, but you should not get carried away. The suspension makes its way relatively easily on sharp sections of asphalt, which is reflected by a muffled thud.

The steering settings make it easy and comfortable to drive a car that readily obeys the steering wheel and keeps a good trajectory on straight sections. The sedan shows good resistance to axial drift at a reasonable speed.

Front disc brakes, ventilated. Back mechanisms of drum type. The car slows down well, and electronic assistants are competently connected to work if necessary.

Driving performance Volkswagen Polo allows him to get ahead of the Chevrolet Aveo at this stage of the comparison. The German sedan turned out to be better balanced and more honest to drive. An important role in this assessment was played by suspension settings and sound insulation. These qualities allowed the Polo to become a more profitable car compared to the Chevrolet Aveo, which, although slightly, still lagged behind the competitor in terms of estimated performance and overall driving experience.

capacity

Chevrolet Aveo (Sonic) shows good roominess in its class. The front is quite spacious, especially in height. The margin in width is not completely absent, but a slight tightness is felt, which is characteristic of the class of the car.

The rear row of seats makes a similar impression, but three on the rear sofa can still fit only with controversial and relative comfort. The advantage is the same headroom. But the margin for the legs is minimal, and to be honest, there is practically none.

The trunk has good capacity indicators, which are infringed by a narrow loading opening. This feature will not allow you to place a bulky load.

Volkswagen Polo sedan looks spacious in width. So it is in fact. There is plenty of shoulder room in the front row, but there may not be enough headroom.

A similar picture is observed in the back row. With a hint of comfort, you can place three riders on the back sofa. It is worth mentioning that the wheelbase provides quite acceptable headroom in the legroom area. rear passengers. Only the free space above the head remains a little controversial.

The trunk is not the largest in the class, but a fairly wide opening for loading slightly compensates for this shortcoming. The second plus can be considered the ability to lay out the back of the seat in the back row with a small shelf.

The leader at this stage of the comparison is a car from Volkswagen, whose interior capacity turned out to be slightly better compared to a competitor. Polo offers more legroom for rear passengers, more space in width, the best boot compared to Aveo in terms of ergonomics and ease of loading. The only plus of the Chevrolet can be considered the height in the cabin and the larger trunk displacement, but this does not allow it to become the winner in the overall classification in terms of spaciousness.

Economy

The Volkswagen Polo gets a slight lead in terms of fuel efficiency, although this cannot be called a clear victory. The Chevrolet Aveo received slightly better dynamic and torque characteristics compared to its competitor.

Safety

base model Chevrolet Aveo:

Base model Volkswagen Polo:

  1. ABS system
  2. driver/passenger front airbags

crash test result Euro NCAP: 5 stars.

Comparative review car safety determines the winner of the Volkswagen Polo, since the presence of anti-lock ABS systems is the advantage of the specified vehicle relative to the Chevrolet Aveo.

Price

  • average price base model Chevrolet Aveo without mileage is 14,600 US dollars.
  • The average price for a base model Volkswagen Polo is $15,950.

Owner reviews

Volkswagen Polo:

Anton (Izhevsk)

Pros: Design, quality. The model, though small, is German. That says it all, the habits of the machine are adults.

Vovka (Ufa)

Pros: Playful, reliable. On the handle of the engine behind the eyes. There are no problems with the chassis either, the normal price of spare parts.

REMM (Kazan)

Pros: Interior quality. For this amount of money, I did not find anything better, although I chose for a long time. I took a used 2012, I do not regret it.

Maxim (Moscow)

Cons: Noisy motor. When warmed up, the engine makes noise, as if the piston is knocking. Mileage 37,000. I do not know what to think.

Oleg (Rostov)

Cons: Price. Expensive for a foreign car of our assembly. There are no particular questions about the quality yet, but there are questions about the service.

Pasha (Krasnoyarsk)

Cons: Package. The base is poor for such a price terribly. And a little better, the price bites, not really fair for "our brand".

Chevrolet Aveo:

Kirill (Rostov)

Pros: Exterior. My first machine. I really like the look, especially the muzzle. Tightened the hind feet with a deaf film, 16 rollers.

Olka (Tula)

Pros: Stylish, affordable. When choosing a car, I fell in love with Aveo. Very elegant white. The price for a new one is great.

Maxxx (Ryazan)

Pros: Torpedo, engine, climate. Inside, the design is cool, the tidy is super simple. The engine pulls briskly from 3 thousand. The air conditioner quickly draws cool air into the heat.

Ivan (Mirny)

Cons: Suspension. Afraid of holes, tender. It quickly goes to the breakdown, so be careful with the pits, especially if you are not sure.

Serge (Bryansk)

Cons: Cost. I don’t know your indicators, but in winter I have up to 14 liters of the 95th easily. I go more often to the floor of the gas pedal.

Dima (Kamyshin)

Cons: Noise isolation. Summer tires on the track are heard well, even too much. The extra noise won't hurt for sure.

Comparison results

Chevrolet Aveo is great option for those drivers who appreciate novelty, non-standard design solutions, ergonomics and style. Also an important feature is the fact that Chevy really knows how to stand out from the crowd and attract attention.

Volkswagen Polo is a typical conservative who is not ready to accept the fashion trends of the automotive industry. The machine remains true to the classic ideals, while providing thoughtful ergonomics and comfort.

At the time of the release of both models, the Polo seemed like a better deal, but at the moment we can see changes. The comparison review places the Aveo as the winner, as the car is substantially cheaper, offers a great balance of available options, and has a more modern and contemporary design today.

Test drive Chevrolet Aveo and Volkswagen Polo

The lines for the Volkswagen Polo sedan are growing day by day. For those who don't want to wait, we've compared the German to the less sought-after old-timer of the class. budget sedans Chevrolet Aveo by choosing sedans equipped with automatic transmissions.

The debate in the editorial office about which of the sedans is prettier ended before it even started. Polo sedan won unconditionally. Stylish optics, minimal gaps between the elements (the little finger crawls between the headlight and the closed Aveo hood without any problems). The only thing that “blew the bill” was the rear view, which in the Chevrolet seemed a little more solid and balanced, while the Polo’s stern was framed so that it seemed to be narrower than it really is. Aveo also let down the decorative hubcaps and a not-so-serious navy blue; in black and with molded rims would be more competitive. Maybe.

Inside, the VW, like the outside, is a step more modern, both aesthetically and functionally. Although the hard steering wheel, which does not even have control buttons at maximum speed, slightly spoiled the more than worthy interior appearance. However, the plastic itself, with which the doors and dashboard are trimmed, is quite hard; a logical question arose - how much would a car become more expensive if VW plastic was used as in a regular Polo ... But the organization of driver's tools is like in a real Volkswagen. Perfectly readable devices, between them - a small screen on-board computer. The information displayed on it can be controlled by the buttons on the stalk with wipers.

Aveo is simpler. But everything vital is also in its place: air conditioning and a standard double-size radio tape recorder, unpopular with thieves, have firmly settled on the center console. The good news is that there are two buttons on the steering wheel. Bad: these are the horn buttons, which cannot be hit if, out of habit, you press into the core of the steering wheel ...

The back of the Polo is cramped. That is, there is enough space for the knees, but the hard finish of the roof touches the head. And in the shoulders there will be enough space for only two. Aveo is more spacious in breadth, although those who are taller than 180 cm will also complain about the height to the roof.

Dynamics

At first glance, the comparison is unfair: under the hood of the Polo sedan was a 1.6-liter 105-horsepower engine, while the Aveo had only a 1.4 engine. But the power of Chevrolet, whose engine size is a whole glass less, differed by only 4 hp. Therefore, there is no particular difference in the dynamics, only in the nature of the set.

A six-speed "automatic" (not bad for a state employee, right ?!) diligently changes gears, offering to be more economical on fuel - the salon managers drove to us so that the average consumption on the on-board computer was about 15 liters per hundred! The Japanese automatic transmission Aisin works fine, and in sport mode allows you to keep the transmission longer and helps you move faster around the city. Aveo is not inferior at the start, winning due to the rare shifting of speeds - the Chevrolet “automatic” has only 4 gears, but in the city this is enough. Despite its age, this transmission performs just as well, and we especially like the subtle upshifts and predictable downshifts.

The steering is more transparent in the Volkswagen: the neutral position is better indicated, and the slightest deviation causes the steering wheel to return more and more. Chevrolet is a little less informative, and at low speeds the control becomes sharply less sharp, unlike Polo.

The suspension of both sedans is quite stiff, but with the deterioration of the road quality, the Aveo looks more comfortable. However, the Polo sedan is rehabilitated on flat pavement by keeping the straight line perfectly, turning even with slight rolls (almost off-road clearance affected), but without deviating from the intended trajectory.

The ground clearance of the Polo sedan is 1.5 cm higher than that of the Aveo (170 versus 155 mm), which can come in handy on a broken country road, say, on the way to the country. But discomfort on the streets of the city will not bring even more modest ground clearance Chevrolet - for example, both cars can park with their front wheels close to the curb.

Volkswagen Polo is worth the wait. Moreover, the Kaluga plant is about to increase the production of cars several times, and the queues will shorten. More likely. But Polo is your option, but inexpensive (compared to competitors) can no longer be called. If money is “tense” and every ruble is important, Aveo is a classic “budget car”: you won’t be charged extra for a stylish and ergonomic interior and exterior in German, but only for everything you need, already included in the list of equipment.

How justified is our choice of transmission? VW dealers sell no more than 15% of "automated" Polo sedans. A slightly larger percentage is also found in the implemented Aveo with automatic transmission. This is because for buyers of cars of this class, the main thing is the price, and everything that can affect its increase is immediately discarded. But we liked the "automated" cars a lot more than their mechanical counterparts; they are more comfortable and make it easier to endure long city traffic jams. True, cars for half a million rubles will no longer be budget options ...

Test drive duel of Chevrolet Aveo and Volkswagen Polo sedans

Both cars in our test were equipped with 1.6-liter gasoline engines, and both were equipped with a six-speed “automatic” with the ability to shift manually. Chevrolet Aveo came to us in average configuration(out of three), and Volkswagen Polo - in the top (also out of three possible). Options have been added here and there.

The boxer drops the glove. This is how we see a newbie Russian market- Aveo second generation. Embossed sidewalls with sloping lines, embossed hood, frowning eyebrows over the four headlight sockets, a protruding jaw ... It's about to hit. Compared to the previous Aveo - a clear step forward in both design and technology. The four-door Volkswagen Polo accepts the challenge: a kind of intellectual who attended fencing lessons and intends to inflict targeted injections on counterattacks. A slightly smaller body, a minimum of embellishments, balanced proportions. Just another Volkswagen. Whether this is a compliment or a hint of mortal boredom depends on personal perception. The Kaluga "German" is slightly inferior to the opponent in passport power, traction and acceleration. But the nominal parameters in a duel sometimes mean no more than the official ratings of athletes.

Boxer and fencer. Different disciplines, different weapons, but the forces are close. Spectators stocked up on beer and nuts? Gong.

The duel begins with short trips in which Chevrolet attacks along the comfort line. When driving evenly at city speeds or smoothly accelerating, the engine sounds a little louder in the Polo. And it is worth pushing the gas pedal - both wake up, but in different ways. The tone of the Volkswagen is generally lower, and in some modes it makes a rumbling sound that resembles something diesel internal combustion engine. (Let's add that the engine from VW starts with vibration, and Jim's one is quieter and calmer.) Aveo's moderate buzz is closer to the classic one in the spectrum gasoline unit. However, with good overclocking, it already catches up with its rival in volume, and even surpasses it. In general, neither one nor the other motor is quiet, only the Volkswagen one also flatters itself, hinting at sporting ambitions with separate bass notes. In vain.

Maybe the gray color is not the most advantageous for the Aveo, but the live car looks catchy and smart. Fighter.

“Accurately follows the gas pedal” - this is not about our rivals. Both differ in delay in reactions. On the Polo, this is mainly caused by the throttle setting. Even with a simple release of the brake and even more so with an initial press on the gas pedal, the car rushes forward relatively briskly. In tight parking lots, you have to be careful. Further, as the pedal advances, you expect more impressive acceleration from the car, and it is the most calm one. And only later there is a revival. Such damping in the responses is also felt during sharp accelerations on the move. It doesn't interfere with quiet driving. At Chevrolet Aveo, the dependence of crankshaft promotion on pedal movement is more linear, but it thinks more slowly automatic transmission gears. The result is approximately the same: when planning a sharp overtaking, it is worth pressing the accelerator here and there in advance.

The appearance of the Polo sedan someone will call faceless. Such calm taillights could have appeared fifteen years ago and in fifteen years they will also look normal. Timeless design. And here we are, bypassing the car around, came to the conclusion that it is harmonious. All the details here are well combined with each other. Elegance is "a style characterized by noble simplicity, calmness, relaxation, rigor and fluidity." It's in the dictionary. Exactly. Notice the Polo's low-hanging rear spring mounts. When forced to cross the curb diagonally, this piece of iron is easy to hook on the edge of the stone. The same goes for descending. The support itself is strong, but there is little pleasant in such scratching. On the road, even with moderate potholes, these elements do not interfere.

For comparison: in the rear third of the bottom of the Aveo there are no such clearly protruding parts, there is a high cross-country margin. At the same time, in the front part of the Chevrolet body, both the belly and the bumper hang lower than the Polo. Therefore, when driving through obstacles or just on a broken country road behind the wheel of an Aveo, you should be much more careful about the front end. It's easy to catch something with an aerodynamic "skirt" or crankcase protection.

I sit behind the wheel of a dark gray car and ask: “Where is your superiority in power?” Plus 10 "horses" - in this weight category - this is the difference, which theoretically should appear somewhere at the top. Indeed, on the free streets, Chevrolet is trying to break away, spinning the internal combustion engine harder. I change into a silver sedan and understand that Volkswagen inflicts a painful injection in response: its “automatic” shifts gears not only more quickly than the opponent’s box, but also more inconspicuously. And up and down, the Chevrolet often pops up small jerks. From the "German" small shocks in the transmission can also be achieved if you press the gas heartily and force the automatic transmission to drop more steps. In most situations, the change of planetary gears to Polo can be seen only by the fluctuations of the tachometer needle and by the gear indicator. By the way, on Polo he always shows her number: both in manual mode and in “automatic”. Comfortable.

Chevrolet's digital speedometer is unusual. The brain needs some extra fraction of a second to comprehend the number. You perceive the classic Polo arrow with a cursory glance where it is easier. But we must admit: the creators of Aveo pulled the maximum out of the concept of such a display. The numbers are large, the brightness is sufficient, the color is pleasant. When you turn on the dimensions or headlights, the brightness of the glow, however, decreases, but the perception of numbers still remains good. Speed, as experience has shown, can be determined even in the most critical case - when the low (at sunset) sun shines from behind or at an angle exactly into the dashboard. In addition, a slight damping has been introduced into the readings of the Aveo speedometer, so that with small fluctuations in the speed of annoying flickering, the numbers do not occur. At Volkswagen, the brightness of the instrument backlight is not adjustable. This is an example of saving for the sake of the tag " budget car". But the glow of numbers and arrows is quite optimal for most situations. I want to reduce it only in complete darkness. And on the illuminated night streets - just right.

Maybe the Polo is able to completely pierce the attacker through and through by turning on the sport mode? I move the handle to position S. Anger in attacks, of course, appears due to the rearrangement of the switching bar up in speed. But since the nature of the response of the motor to the accelerator remains a little inhibited, this mode does not add much sport. "Automatic" in Aveo sedan sports mode is generally deprived, but our boxer boldly hits backhand, including a banal kickdown. The blow does not reach the target: in terms of acceleration in the conditionally urban range of 40-90 km / h, Volkswagen is still preferable even in normal D mode. It is rescued by a box that quickly changes gears. The greatest harmony of engines and automatic transmission for both four-doors, in theory, should be achieved in manual mode. It's just that I really don't want to go for it.

Both cars by their nature are far from sports cars, family sedans are. However, in urban conditions, they quite allow you to compete with cars of their class and similar (105–115 hp) power. Only for this you need not be shy to turn the engines, which immediately affects fuel consumption. For the latter, as it turned out later, protracted traffic jams are even more destructive.

Concluding the topic of gearboxes and active combat, it is worth noting only an important difference in ergonomics. In Polo, manual shifts are performed by short movements of the lever forward (+) and backward (-). The creators of Aveo, however, did a trick: for changing gears manually, a swinging two-shouldered button on the side of the knob of the “machine” handle is responsible for changing gears. As a result, even with the usual set of speeds, the hand has to be kept on the handle all the time. After removing your palm on the steering wheel and a little later returning it back, you need to spend another second to find the key and put your thumb on it. With Volkswagen, interaction is more intuitive and therefore faster.

The design of the Tiptronic automatic gearbox switch in Polo (left) looks expensive, and the box itself is essentially that. The handle on the Chevrolet Aveo is a design refinement, but loses in convenience. However, for Aveo this box is a big progress. After all, we have before us the first six-speed sported (with manual mode) “automatic” on compacts with a Chevrolet nameplate. This unit differs from its direct predecessors from the automatic transmission line for GM cars in reduced dimensions and weight. We note for thrifty buyers: the surcharge for the "automatic" for the Chevrolet Aveo is 33 thousand rubles, and for the Volkswagen Polo sedan - 46 thousand. In both cases automatic transmission can be ordered from the second trim level.

You need to adjust to the brakes on both four-doors. Again, it's different. For the first hundreds of meters on a Volkswagen, I'm driving and I can't figure out how hard to press the pedal. There is a pedestrian crossing ahead, you need to slow down. With a slight movement of the pedal, it seems that nothing is happening at all. Then, as the foot moves, the effort begins to increase, and the deceleration clearly increases. And further away the brakes, as they say, grab and even sharper than we would like. Having got used, however, you choose an optimum easily. Chevrolet Aveo demonstrates that he studied textbooks before the fight. The relationship between deceleration intensity and pedal travel is straightforward. But why do I still feel uncomfortable? The fact is that the pedal stroke of the “American” is somewhat larger, and the effort on it is relatively small, and in addition, it almost does not grow at almost three-quarters of the stroke. There is a feeling of "cotton wool" under the foot. It's a shame: Aveo is able to slow down intensively, but does not give the driver a sense of confidence, instinctively I want to press the pedal harder. It only gets heavier towards the floor.

The exterior mirrors of our duelists suffer from art form. Aveo (left) to a greater extent. It is very strongly beveled at the top. If this is not critical for a close left mirror, then in the same right one I would like to see more of the situation. In Polo, the exterior mirrors are better shaped. If only they were also slightly larger ... In addition, the “German” does not have enough salon mirror. This glass would add at least a centimeter. Disadvantages for one, disadvantages for the other: on this tiny point of the program - a draw.

In a fight, opponents have to maneuver a lot. The Aveo has hydraulic power steering, the Polo has electric power steering. This circumstance, however, does not create any crushing difference in everyday driving. When changing lanes and cornering, both sedans feel quite docile. But still, the “German” steers more sharply, its steering wheel is somewhat more informative, but the Aveo sedan keeps a slightly greater distance between itself and the driver. This is strange, because the steering wheel is relatively short and, in addition, heavy. And in general, people often dislike electric amplifiers and extol hydro. You can see it's in the settings. Lunges and parries in the first round are over. Rivals take a breather, and the seconds remember that cars with an initial price of up to five hundred are clearly bought not for racing through the streets, but rather for home, for the family. What family values do we know? Silence in the cabin and smoothness, for example. And yet - the space inside, the convenience of transforming the cabin. Finally, everyone wants to get more car for less money. Here the results of our rivals are more or less close, but the devil is in the details.

Crossing after crossroads, crossroads after crossroads. So it gradually became clear what Chevrolet lacks. The steering mechanism of the Volkswagen significantly changes the degree of power depending on the speed. For Aveo, I would like to get a lighter steering wheel at low and medium speeds. Its heaviness for a car with not the highest sports skills is unnecessary.

Let's get back to sounds for a moment. The Polo driver, at a slight acceleration, is forced to listen to a distinct rr from the internal combustion engine, without even pressing the gas pedal further than the middle of the stroke. His ward is recouped due to the clatter of hooves: the rumble of the tires from the Chevrolet is clearly higher than that of the Volkswagen. To make it quiet, you need completely smooth, only yesterday laid asphalt. Not that the sound transmission of the wheel arches differed greatly between the two models. We believe that regular tires play the main role in this behavior of cars. On a car with a yellow cross are Hankook tires Optimo, on a sedan with a VW nameplate - Kama Euro.

Taking into account general level soundproofing the cabin acoustic as well as vibration stages of the duel wins Polo, but not in one go. For example, the heater fan rustles more distinctly (even at the first speed). This is clearly visible if you do not turn on the music. Therefore, Volkswagen cannot deliver a decisive blow here either. And we also admit: many features of internal noise and smoothness are a subjective thing, and we did not use sound level meters and accelerometers. In addition, elusive crickets surfaced from time to time in both cars - some kind of weak rattles in the bowels of the front panels (in the air ducts, apparently), and in Polo - also in the area of \u200b\u200bthe right sun visor. These sounds themselves disappeared as mysteriously as they appeared.

The smoothness of the ride also partially depends on the tires. Both duelists can be considered comfortable in this regard. In more or less degree. Their suspensions do not suffer from excessive stiffness and do not sway too much in the waves. But here, too, there are tangible differences. Due to the higher profile, regular Aveo tires swallow road trifles a little better. But with serious blows from pits or when driving through rough seams on bridges, the Chevrolet shakes the whole body more than the Volkswagen Polo. The suspension of the latter transmits short and rounded pokes from the road to the seats, flavored, however, with a distinct soundtrack. Because Polo sedan gives the impression of being better prepared for a broken roadbed. But it is surprising that we have not decided whose tuning is formally harder and whose is softer. In general, they are similar, only the "German" turned out to have a higher reserve of energy intensity. On uneven pavement and at speed, its suspension allows you to feel more confident.

It is likely that, having picked up the rubber more successfully, Aveo owner will be able to somewhat change the character of his car for the better.

The next round is held in static - we meticulously examine the salons. Where is the best driver's seat? There is no clear answer. A very subjective criterion. For potential buyers to think, let's just say that the Chevrolet pillow is softer than the Volkswagen one. Even in the Aveo, the lateral support is a little more prominent, especially on the back of the seat. But the length of the pillow may not be enough for tall comrades, which will undoubtedly affect the long journey. This exchange of cautious attacks ends with a prick from Polo: this model has driver seat height adjustment in all versions, even in the base one, but Aveo has such a useful setting only in the highest configuration of the three.
What about behind? It is convenient for the two extreme passengers in both sedans if their height is not much higher than average (otherwise the rivals show interesting differences, we will talk about them below). The average passenger is equally uncomfortable here and there. His legs get in the way of the central tunnel. Yes, only in Polo it is slightly higher. Volkswagen also loses in terms of air supply over the heads of the rear inhabitants. The difference in body height affects (Aveo at the withers is 5 cm higher). Also, the Chevrolet rear glass goes far to the roof. It is precisely this that looms over the backs of the heads of the rear riders. This decision gave an increase of a couple of centimeters of space. Although without them, Aveo would have won on this point.

There is enough space for four adults in the Aveo sedan, albeit without a margin. Frankly, many B-class cars are closer. In addition, tall people in the back can sit here without taking off, as they say, their hats. It's also nice that the ceiling handles in the Chevrolet have a microlift. Alas, against the background of such luxury, the only place for luggage in the rear of the cabin is seen with mute reproach - a pocket in the back of the front right seat. There are no pockets in the rear doors. And yet - a raised window sill line exacerbates the feeling of tightness in width. We will talk about it separately.

The Polo Salon wins in a number of important ways. For example, it’s easy to put up with the missing microlift of the ceiling handles, but the pockets in the rear doors of the Volkswagen, and in addition with bottlers, will turn out to be much more valuable on a long journey. And that's not it.

Another example of the difference between rivals: the Polo door stop (on the left), in addition to the extreme position, has two intermediate ones. Aveo has only one intermediate fixed position. In a tight parking lot, the difference can be quite appreciated. And what is even more interesting - all four power windows in Polo have an "Auto" mode (full lowering and full rise with one click), while Aveo does not have it in any of the four.

The ceiling height margin in Aveo is like a blow to the head of an opponent. The German sedan comes to its senses and responds with a couple of quick lunges. Yes, there is good space for the legs of the rear passengers in the Chevrolet cabin, but the Polo has a much larger distance to the front seats, adjusted approximately identically! Where one tall man 185–187 cm tall, sitting behind himself in the Aveo, will already touch the front back with his knees, in the Polo he will also have a noticeable gap about the width of a fist. And even with a fist in a boxing glove. It's not just a matter of a successful arrangement or shape of the seats: with a slightly shorter overall length, the Polo outperforms its counterpart in the wheelbase. This is followed by a second painful injection. Although the outer width of the body is greater in Chevrolet, in the shoulders of the rear passengers and between the armrests rear doors For some reason, Volkswagen has more distance. This difference runs up to 3–8 cm, depending on the places of measurement.

A big plus for Chevrolet is the saturation with interesting touches in the design, both on the outside ...

So it is inside. The ventilation knobs were especially successful. Rubberized, with a relief rim, chrome-plated ring and yellow LEDs as marks. A similar knob that controls the headlights is also equipped with a risk diode, which lights up blue when the outdoor lighting is turned on. Good large paddle shifters. Extreme ventilation deflectors are ingeniously made. Turning the round handle on them opens and closes two crescent petals, thereby changing the air pressure. And behind them is a lattice in the form of honeycombs. Stylish. The Aveo plastic steering wheel is pleasing to the eye and to the touch (our Polo, by the way, has leather, but this is an expensive equipment), its fine details are well worked out. The plastic on the front panel of the Chevy is hard, but interesting in terms of texture and color combinations. Pictures do not convey this feeling of texture well.

Volkswagen Polo is a mixture of simplified solutions with unusual features. He, for example, can not open the hood without opening the driver's door. Some will find this inconvenient, but, in my opinion, this is a tribute to security. The hood lock handle of the "German" is made in such a way that it rests against the end of the door and cannot turn. And the gas cap? For both sedans, it is unlocked when the central lock is opened. But for Aveo, the lid can then move freely to the side, while for Polo, you need to lightly press on it so that it snaps off. These are trifles, of course, but the difference in the volume of gas tanks cannot be called a trifle. The advantage of the Polo in nine liters is an extra hundred kilometers on the highway.

A couple more Chevrolet blows towards the opponent. The Aveo radio tape recorder in this configuration is equipped with a Bluetooth interface (the more expensive Polo does not have it). And another minivan will envy the abundance of storage compartments in front of the Aveo cockpit: three open boxes on the front console, a recess in the upper part of the panel, pockets in the doors, a case over the driver’s head, and even two glove compartments. The top has a USB port. Moreover, by connecting a phone, player or camera to it (say, for charging), the device can either be left in the glove compartment or picked up by closing the lid. After all, it has a neat slot for wiring (in the picture it is visible on the left). What a striking difference from the abode of the rear passengers, which looks gloomy and empty in the Aveo.

The interior of the Polo is visually made much more unpretentious than that of the Aveo, one might say, it is more classic. The plastic is hard but looks good. There is only one glove compartment in the Polo. WITH inside its covers are equipped with a case and a coin box, and in the bottom of the glove compartment, under the snap-on door, there is a secret "cellar" for the service book. In what else can the salons of our heroes compete? The cup holders draw - 3:3. True, Aveo has two front ones equipped with spring-loaded teeth. But on hooks for clothes, Polo wins with a score of 4: 2.

Aveo starts a new round by opening the trunk lid. It has 502 liters of volume versus 460 liters for the Polo. A strong argument that a family man will appreciate. However, Volkswagen also finds here how to respond to a dangerous attack. It has a wider boot opening. Eight centimeters, if you look at the middle of the rear lights. In addition, Volkswagen has a pair of closing handles in the upholstery of the lid (Chevrolet does without them at all). And the hold of the Polo slams shut with a dull sound, and the Aveo rattles with metal. But the upholstery of the Chevrolet cover is made of a soft material similar to felt, while the Polo has hard plastic screwed on, and even then it does not completely cover the cover.

The trunk of the Chevrolet Aveo is more spacious than that of the Volkswagen. The shape of the cargo compartments is similar, the loading height is almost the same, and the hinges of the lid interfere approximately equally.

You can open the trunk of the Polo either with a key or with a button on the driver's door. Aveo has a button on the lid itself. Inside is a slightly smaller but neatly designed space.

An interesting situation develops with the transformation of the rear seats. Both competitors have split backs. And Chevrolet captivates here with the simplicity and lightning speed of their folding. He pulled the lock lever - the back fell forward. The pillow on the Aveo is one-piece and does not transform. In extreme cases, it can only be removed and left in the garage. With Polo, there is much more fuss, and it seems that here he will never fight off the attacker in his life.
Each of the unequal halves of the Polo seat cushion must first be folded forward. And in two movements - first we raise the front edge, then we pull the back. Then you need to pull out the relatively tight fungi of the retainers and recline the backs, but not completely. The next step is to remove the head restraints one by one (you can’t just drown them down, so laying the backs behind the pillow will not work). Now you can finally lower the backs. Phew. And what result do we see? Chevrolet has not only a larger trunk, but also a slightly wider and higher window between the trunk and the passenger compartment. This is an uppercut. At the same time, the Aveo fighter recklessly leaves the flank open: the same unfolded pillow noticeably affects the convenience of cargo placement. Because of it, on the floor of the cargo compartment, the backs in the Aveo form a step as high as 13 cm. The Polo also has a step, but noticeably lower - about 8 cm.

The strict appearance of Polo is in harmony with its essence. Everything is thought out and meticulously verified.

There are no fanciful forms and lines in Polo. But the interior pleases in German with careful execution in detail and, on the whole, looks expensive when compared with other state employees.

The reverse transformation is similarly troublesome for the Polo and carefree for the Aveo. In Chevrolet, the backs simply snap into place when pressed on them, while in german car after installing the backs in place, the fixing fungi need to be drowned down yourself. So, in ease of handling the seats, the American-Korean apparatus outperforms the brainchild of a company from Wolfsburg. But again, Volkswagen Polo is not going to give up, because the round of practicality is not over. Under the trunk floor of a Chevrolet lies a narrow stowaway, so unloved by many Russians. But the "German" is equipped with a normal spare wheel, however, a 14-inch one with more high profile(another example of saving on matches), although the main wheels and tires in this configuration are 15 inches.

Let us mention an insignificant, but indicative difference associated with a niche for a spare wheel. Both Chevrolet and Volkswagen have in it, in addition to the wheel, jack and balloon wrench, an empty space for all sorts of things, such as a cable and an electric pump, remains. But in Aveo, this place is bare metal, while Polo has a prudently inserted organizer made of dense foam. It seems that we often blamed Polo for saving on penny details? We take back our words.

After the gong, the seconds evaluate the bruises and abrasions received by the duelists. In the meantime, let's remember how the Russians rated the German mix of budget knots and thoughtful little things. According to the results of the first half of 2012, the Polo model took the eighth line in the list of the most popular passenger cars. And out of almost 36 thousand cars sold, 94% are just sedans. 77% year-over-year growth on the back of a 12% overall rise in our automotive market- speaking indicator. Well, the Chevrolet Aveo sedan is only going to intervene in the statistics of the leaders, because its sales began in February of this year, and potentially the most popular basic modification will appear at dealers in October.

In our competition, the judges paid more attention to Chevrolet as a Russian debutant this year. The younger Volkswagen basically acted as a catch-up. But it gradually became clear that the young and cocky Aveo, which has a number of strengths, there is much to learn from the creation of German engineers.

By the way, about bases. Polo four-doors manufactured since June 11, 2012 now have ABS by default in the initial version of Trendline, and air conditioning can now be ordered as an option in it. Previously, neither one nor the other in the very affordable sedan Polo could not be. There is such a car, supplemented by a radio tape recorder, roundedly 485 thousand rubles. The starting four-door Aveo (LS equipment) with added air conditioning (“music” in this car is by default) pulls on 474 thousand. Almost parity. But further in the two older trim levels, the gaps grow. Volkswagen is becoming more expensive than its competitor. This is partly justified by the equipment, but thoughts are gradually creeping in, why not buy something bigger for that kind of money?

The test Polo was much more expensive than the test Aveo: the “German” has climate control instead of air conditioning, there is electric heating windshield, 65% tinted rear windows, security bolts... But all this had no effect on the outcome of the meeting.

Spectators, we look, reached for the exit. It remains to announce the result. Volkswagen Polo win. He won not by one blow, but by points. He made many, many small holes in the enemy. And if all of its many "slightly", "a little" or "much better" are put together, then you understand: despite all the budget, the Volkswagen branded slogan - Das Auto - is quite suitable for the Polo sedan. The four-door Aveo is an attractive option for its price. Bright appearance, interesting interior, especially if we talk about its front half, a large hold. But Aveo loses in comfort, inferior in driving properties. The main difference between the duelists lies not so much in the nominal characteristics as in the aftertaste. The new Aveo, playing, as before, in the budget league, no longer impresses frankly cheap car. Volkswagen Polo - gives the impression of an expensive one.

The four-door Polo is built on the fifth generation Polo hatchback chassis (PQ25 platform). However, the wheelbase received an increase of as much as 82 mm, and the passport ground clearance was increased by almost 7 cm. Suspension here is traditional: McPherson front and torsion beam rear. The same nodes can be found in a number of models of the Volkswagen concern. But in brake system there was an important change: the rear disk mechanisms of the five-door were replaced by cheaper and more durable drum mechanisms.

The Gamma II (GSV) platform used on the second generation Aveo was jointly designed by GM Korea and Opel. It involves the use of suspension types traditional for a small class. These are McPherson struts at the front and a semi-independent torsion beam design at the rear. Gamma II is GM's relatively new global platform for compact machines, and in different variations it can be found, for example, in the current Chevrolet Spark cars and Opel Mokka, and also in the forthcoming Opel Adam city car.

The power structure of the body of the Polo sedan is very similar to the structure of the original hatchback. This applies to key parts and materials used. Creating their budget four-door, Volkswagen engineers did not skimp on safety. The upper spars, sill reinforcements, central tunnel and engine shield of the Polo sedan are made of high-strength steel, and the front and middle pillars are made of ultra-high-strength steel.

High-strength steel makes up about 60% of the Aveo's body structure (yellow). Ultra-high-strength steel (red) is used in several key areas: sills, floor crossbars, A-pillars. The individual grades of alloys used here have a tensile strength of more than 1000 MPa, while the predecessor car had up to 550 MPa. And the number of welding points was increased by 10%. All this made it possible to achieve better body rigidity (for the benefit of handling) and radically best results crash tests compared to the Aveo predecessor (five stars versus one and a half).

Under the hood of the Polo is a well-tested and relatively simple in design sixteen-valve CFNA with distributed injection, known to domestic drivers, for example, by the current Fabia. Of the design features, it is worth mentioning the durable timing chain drive and four separate ignition coils.

Aveo sedan equipped with a “four” from the Ecotec family, familiar to consumers from a number of other GM models. In particular, the same unit, only with the Opel badge on the cover, can be seen in engine compartment Asters of the current generation. Features of this internal combustion engine: an inlet tract with variable geometry and variable valve timing at the inlet and outlet. Compared to a similar engine of the previous generation, in this unit, engineers have reduced the weight of the cylinder block and increased its rigidity, improved cooling of the block head and increased survivability toothed belt, and also introduced cooling of the pistons with oil jets. The boxer drops the glove. This is how we see the newcomer to the Russian market - Aveo of the second generation. Embossed sidewalls with sloping lines, embossed hood, frowning eyebrows over the four headlight sockets, a protruding jaw ... It's about to hit. Compared to the previous one, this is a clear step forward both in design and technology. Accepts the challenge of the four-door Volkswagen Polo: a kind of intellectual who attended fencing lessons and intends to inflict targeted injections on counterattacks.

The tone of the Volkswagen is generally lower, and in some modes it makes a rumbling sound that is somewhat reminiscent of the sounds of a diesel engine. (Let's add that the engine from VW starts with vibration, and Jim's engine is quieter and calmer.) Aveo's moderate buzzing in the spectrum is closer to the classic gasoline unit.

At Chevrolet Aveo, the dependence of crankshaft spin-up on pedal movement is more linear, but the automatic transmission is slower.

This is an example of saving money for the "Budget Car" tag.

The “automatic” in the Aveo sedan has no sport mode at all, but our boxer boldly hits backhand, including a banal kickdown.

A car with a yellow cross has Hankook Optimo tires, a sedan with a VW nameplate has Kama Euro.

Taking into account the general level of soundproofing of the cabin, the acoustic and vibration stages of the duel win Polo, but not in one go.

Because the Polo sedan gives the impression of being better prepared for a broken roadway. But it is surprising that we have not decided whose tuning is formally harder and whose is softer. In general, they are similar, only the "German" turned out to have a higher reserve of energy intensity. On uneven pavement and at speed, its suspension allows you to feel more confident.

It is likely that by choosing better tires, the owner of Aveo will be able to somewhat change the character of his car for the better.

In addition, in Chevrolet, the rear window goes far to the roof.

Although the outer width of the body is greater in Chevrolet, in the shoulders of the rear passengers and between the armrests of the rear doors, the distance is for some reason greater in Volkswagen.

On the inside of its lid there is a case and a coin box, and in the bottom of the glove compartment, under the snap-on door, there is a secret "cellar" for the service book.

In a Chevrolet, the backs simply snap into place when pressed on them, while in a German car, after installing the backs in place, the locking fungi must be drowned down yourself. But the "German" is equipped with a normal spare wheel, however, a 14-inch one with a higher profile (another example of saving on matches), although the main wheels and tires in this configuration are 15 inches.

77% growth compared to last year against the backdrop of a 12% overall rise in our automotive market is a telling figure.

But it gradually became clear that the young and cocky Aveo, which has a number of strengths, has a lot to learn from the creation of German engineers.

By the way, about bases. Polo four-doors manufactured since June 11, 2012 now have ABS by default in the initial version of Trendline, and air conditioning can now be ordered as an option in it. Previously, neither one nor the other could be in the most affordable Polo sedan. Such a car, supplemented by a radio, costs almost as much as the starting four-door Aveo (LS equipment) with added air conditioning (“music” in this car is by default). But further in the two older trim levels, the gaps grow. Volkswagen is becoming more expensive than its competitor. This is partly justified by the equipment, but thoughts are gradually creeping in, why not buy something bigger for that kind of money?

The test Polo was much more expensive than the test Aveo: the “German” has climate control instead of an air conditioner, there is an electrically heated windshield, 65% tinted rear windows, security bolts ... But all this did not affect the outcome of the meeting.

The new Aveo, playing, as before, in the budget league, no longer gives the impression of a frankly cheap car. Volkswagen Polo - gives the impression of an expensive one.

Drive Photos

Greetings to all after a long silence. I often run to the site to read, but there was nothing to write about the car.

I decided to sum it up because of the possible sale of the car - the option is turning up to buy a bigger car and all-wheel drive from a friend at a reasonable price.

So, the mileage approached 35 thousand km., That is, I still roll only 10 thousand km. in a year. There were no breakdowns during this period; in the fall of 2013, a creak appeared in the front right suspension when speed bumps passed. Went to a friend's station. The verdict is this: there is no problem, creaking is not a reason to change parts if they are in excellent condition (this was said about the entire suspension). They sprayed the rubber bands with silicone, and there was no longer a squeak on the way back. I climbed on the VAGovodov forums - the owners of golf courses have a similar problem, and dealers say that this is such a feature. Although, as you can see, the trouble is that nothing breaks. Now, when replacing wheels with summer ones, for prevention, he himself sprinkled all the rubber bands with silicone, just in case.

Strengths:

  • Quality small car

Weak sides:

  • Dogs don't like

Review of Volkswagen Polo Sedan 1.6 (Volkswagen Polo) 2013

Relatives got a polo sedan. At the automarket I wrote that I own it, but otherwise it did not allow me to publish a review. Of course, the model has long been known and widespread, almost everyone said. Well, I will also describe my impressions, suddenly it will be useful to someone.

Let's start with the purchase. Initially needed the most budgetary normal cars with clearance. In fact, the choice was between Solaris and polo. In general, the machines are very comparable in terms of price, performance, and size. The choice in favor of the polo was made based on the advantages of the laconic design of the polo over the rattle Solaris spaceship, as well as after reading horror stories on the Internet about the quality of the Solaris. It should be noted that the purely external quality of the cars is absolutely comparable. Everything is very neat.

When we bought it, we really wanted to order an option with a heated windshield, but we would have to wait 3-4 months, and the dealer had a ready-made basic equipment with air conditioning and a head unit. As a result, they sacrificed Wishlist in favor of speed.

Strengths:

  • Design
  • Engine
  • thoughtfulness
  • Price-quality ratio

Weak sides:

  • budget
  • not a hatchback
  • Still noisy in the cabin.

Review of Volkswagen Polo 1.4 (Volkswagen Polo) 2011 Part 4

Some facts and figures.

So VW Polo 1.4 MKPP5 Comfortline sold after 2.75 years of operation with a mileage of 45 thousand km.

The average consumption for the entire run was exactly 8.5 liters. The highway/city ratio is also exactly 50/50. Consumption on the highway (at normal speeds) 6-7l, in the city 9.5-10.5l / 100km.

Strengths:

  • Very nice car in every respect

Weak sides:

  • High consumption in the city (this is a feature of the car in general, or specifically my copy, I did not understand)
  • The climate control dial is slightly tilted up
  • Sometimes the design outweighs the practicality (in particular, the front bumper, like the Cross Polo, would not greatly worsen the aerodynamics, but improve the geometric cross-country ability)

One of the popular and inexpensive sedan class models that we will subject to comparative analysis today are the Chevrolet Cruze, as well as its worthy rival or just its German counterpart, the Volkswagen Jetta. Putting aside unnecessary facts and trifles that no one needs, let's compare cars whose auto industries are quite original and based on different approaches and traditions. It would not be entirely correct to say unequivocally which of these cars is more prestigious. Both the “German” and the “Korean” with an Americanized name have their own strengths and weaknesses, which will be discussed further in this material.

For a general vision of the confrontation, you should familiarize yourself with the table specifications each of these cars. So, half the battle is already done. Now let's go directly to the appearance of the participants and dwell on important details.

Appearance and design decisions

No one is surprised by the conservatism of the "German" designers, who leave the car no chance for its individuality. However, as most critics and experts note, it is this approach that gives rise to something more, namely the invaluable tradition of Volkswagen, which has been maintained for a long time. That is why, the Volkswagen Jetta is distinguished by the features of a strictly verified design and harmonious lines.

On the other hand, the Chevrolet Cruze does not suit black in any way, such a car is not much different from the color of dirty asphalt, and in winter it seems just a black crow on white snow. On the positive side of all this, the design is strictly custom-tailored, making the Chevrolet Cruze unmistakable from any other car model. However, there is always a representative of the sedan class, which can compete with our participants in terms of design. In this case, whether it is a Chevrolet Cruze or a Volkswagen Jetta, as a result, each of them will become an outsider of the competition. In the meantime, we continue to further explore all the possibilities, advantages and disadvantages of the participants in the confrontation between Chevrolet Cruze vs Volkswagen Jetta.

Driving performance and acceleration dynamics

An important parameter for driving on Russian roads is the height ground clearance. According to this criterion, which is significant for Russian car owners, the victory for Volkswagen car The Jetta is 160mm while the Chevrolet Cruze is only 150mm. The Jetta is distinguished by the presence of sufficient cabin space, advantageous in many respects, especially for passengers in the back seat. And this is with a relatively small wheelbase, the length of which is very modest and not much more than 2.6 m. In the Jetta, passengers sitting in the back seat will find a place not only to comfortably position their arms and legs, but also, it is also easy to determine where to put the glasses . And besides the shelves and radiators, there is a 12-volt outlet.

There is only one “but” in all this interior splendor - a too prominent cabinet is close to the back seat, and when traveling with three people it is somewhat difficult to find a seat for one of the passengers. In the front cabin of the Jetta, everything is as unified as possible - a simple dashboard, on which the main dynamic sensors are displayed, the car interior is comfortable, but there is work for designers here. Therefore, high marks for the performance of the interior of the Volkswagen Jetta model can not be seen.

Above artful outlines and smooth transitions of the body chevrolet car Cruze designers from Korea worked like professional surgeons. Even if you can notice some distant reminder of the Daewoo Lacetti, however, this is only a very slight similarity of the car. Thanks to this car design project, the Koreans won the victory over many studios competing for the right to create an image for this car. As the authors themselves say, they drew inspiration and basic ideas from the traditions of the old American automotive industry from Chevrolet. Therefore, today, looking at the Chevrolet Cruze model, you feel how the car's roofline flows to the rear lights from the low hood through the high trunk.

But here's the free space inside Salon Chevrolet Cruze is among the representatives of its class in not particularly prestigious middle positions. The rear seat is quite spacious, and the legs behind the seated passenger do not rest against the front seats, due to the concavity of the latter. The gap between the heads sitting in the back seat and the ceiling is not too large, due to the large slope of the roof back. Also, the indisputable disadvantage of this car is the fact that warm air is supplied only to the soles of the feet.

Interior equipment Chevrolet Cruze vs Volkswagen Jetta

The Chevrolet Cruze car differs from the Jetta in that it is more equipped with buttons and adjustment knobs. But sometimes, being in the Cruise's cabin, a feeling of budget and economy creeps in, in terms of style and interior design. Hard plastic, the most ordinary seat upholstery and the presence of a distinct smell of plastic in the cabin. Cruise also has some disadvantages in the design of the tachometer and speedometer, which also have insufficient backlight brightness. On the contrary, the Jetta's driver's seat is comfortable and high-quality filler.

The luggage compartment of the Jetta is more than 500 liters, which makes it possible for the car to carry even skis, since there is a window between the trunk and the passenger compartment. The rear seats are equipped with a fastening mechanism that can be unfastened from the trunk. cargo trunk Chevrolet Cruze has a medium size and is 450 liters. The rear seats can also be unfastened from the trunk.

Reasons and reason to choose Chevrolet Cruze vs Volkswagen Jetta

Comparing that better Volkswagen Jetta or Chevrolet Cruze, found out several reasons that may contribute to the purchase of a Chevrolet Cruze:

  • The first reason why a purchase can be made is the price factor. The price of the car is competitive in relation to other brands of the same class.
  • The second factor that favors the purchase is a bright and eye-catching car against the background of others. With a length of more than 4.5 m, it can conditionally be attributed to D-class cars.
  • Thirdly, the maneuverability and speed parameters of the Chevrolet Cruze are to the liking of many who love fast driving. His pendant and steering at speed they look simply excellent, providing easy control of the car.
  • fourth, powerful engine(1.8 l) with a 6-speed automatic transmission. With such power, it is economical.
  • And, lastly, the Chevrolet Cruze is included in the list of models, upon purchase of which, you can pass old car, receiving a discount of 50 thousand rubles.

But, despite all the great reviews about Chevrolet, there are also disadvantages in this choice. Therefore, given all the pros, there are three cons:

  1. A car equipped with a 1.6 liter engine accelerates weakly and moves rather sluggishly. This was facilitated by his predecessor, the Daewoo Lacetti, on the basis of which Cruz appeared.
  2. The price of a car with a 1.6 liter engine bites a little, given the first negative factor.
  3. Some paucity of interior decoration made of plastic in dark colors may seem dull.

Against the background of 1.6 liter engine– 1.8 liters looks significantly attractive, increasing the power and agility of the car, giving dynamics. As for the Volkswagen Jetta, the car is amazingly complex, has its own memorable face. Space in the cabin, climate control, protection from external odors and noise are important pluses. As one of the options - a car equipped with an automatic transmission DSG. But this is a car for wealthy customers, although the automatic gearbox justifies itself in the urban cycle.

Outside the city, combined 122 - strong engine and DSG boxes Volkswagen Jetta is able to reach 100 km / h in 9.8 seconds. Installed on the Jetta mechanical box The gears work smoothly and flawlessly. European buyers are offered cars with 6 power units- 2 turbodiesels: 1.6 liters and 2.0 liters, there are economical 1.2 liters and 1.4 with turbocharged engines.

Thus, to buy a Volkswagen Jetta car today means to give preference to the truly German classics of the automotive industry, with significant development in favor of the priority of progress and the attraction of new design solutions. Besides this car proved to be a worthy helper in family affairs, able to carry oversized cargo, turn a long trip into a pleasure, and also take care of each passenger individually. And thanks sporty look and its modest outward elegance, it will allow each car owner to emphasize their independence and the indestructible temper of a conservative and at the same time a true fan of Volkswagen.

Active promotion of German " people's cars» high price tags have long been hampered by the broad Russian masses. Now that the model range has been replenished with a truly affordable Volkswagen, the public has poured into dealerships, accustomed to counting every ruble. Prices for the Polo sedan start at 399,000 rubles for the Trendline version with a 1.6 engine (105 hp) and “mechanics”. A car with an “automatic” will cost at least 512,300 rubles, and this is one of the best deals on the market, especially since the “automatic” here is quite modern, 6-speed, with manual shifting. The Chevrolet Aveo has an old automatic transmission, 4-speed, without manual mode. And it is available only in the most expensive version of the LS, paired with a 1.4 engine (101 hp), at a price of 513,880 rubles. At first glance, Polo looks clearly preferable, but then again - the queue ... Perhaps Aveo is not much worse?

In the city

In an urban environment, Chevrolet is really not much inferior to a freshly baked rival: despite the fact that the “automatic” is not the most advanced here, Aveo accelerates briskly and organically fits into the rhythm of the metropolis. It's lighter and shorter than the Polo, it needs less parking space, but even the power steering at low speeds can feel tight, especially for women. The Volkswagen steering wheel is easier to turn in parking lots, but the dimensions feel worse - parking radar, apparently, will become one of the most requested options for Polo. The accelerating dynamics of a German car will pleasantly surprise many, however, in a city where the speed is constantly changing and frequent switching is required, the “automatic” works, albeit quickly, but somewhat nervously - a consequence of a high degree of adaptability.

In the country

Volkswagen Polo confidently pulls ahead on highways: excellent directional stability, confident overtaking and energy-intensive suspension make long trips on this car quite comfortable and not too tiring for the driver. Fast driving on the Chevrolet Aveo requires much more effort: at three-digit speeds, the lack of steps in the gearbox becomes obvious - you have to overtake under the strained howl of the engine.

Direct Aveo holds worse than Polo, which, coupled with not the most informative steering, is tiring.

Passengers, on the other hand, are more concerned about the shuddering and buildup of the body on large bumps in the roadway and the high level of noise. In addition, Aveo is forced to stop for refueling more often: its tank holds 10 liters less gasoline than the Polo.

Controllability

Volkswagen cars have always been distinguished by the highest level of chassis refinement, and the Polo sedan demonstrates the breed without any discounts on budget. Exemplary informative steering is combined with no less exemplary exchange rate stability, banks in corners are minimal - driving the Polo along a winding country path is easy and pleasant. The only thing that can be reproached for is the lack of informativeness of the brake drive, but only those who have traveled on the Polo hatchback will notice this - it is easier to control deceleration there. Aveo brakes in normal modes are quite comfortable and reliable, but during an emergency stop you have to apply too much force to the brake pedal, and the Brake Assist system, alas, is not even offered here as an option, as well as ESP, then Polo has a controllability stabilization system included in the optional Premium package.

In addition to the lack of ESP, the desire to scorch on Aveo beat off the deficit feedback on the steering wheel, low stability at high speed and significant body roll in corners, frightening when driving with a full load. Volkswagen Polo is more tolerant of loading and in general gives the impression of a safer and more pleasant car to drive.

Ergonomics and comfort

Compared to the hatchback, the interior design of the three-volume Polo bears obvious traces of simplification and cheapening. This almost did not affect the ergonomics of the driver's seat, but from an aesthetic point of view, the sedan lost a lot: the plastic is hard like wood everywhere, other finishing materials are unpretentious and gray, but nothing creaks on the go. The driver's seat has a wide range of adjustments, but the too convex profile of the backrest and the stepwise adjustment of its angle of inclination interfere with choosing a comfortable fit. In the back seat, by the standards of the class, it is very spacious: there is a pleasant supply of space in the legs, but there is practically no overhead. Sitting three of us on the second row is not very pleasant, but possible. The noise level in the cabin is moderate, the acoustic palette is dominated by the sound of the engine, but thanks to a sufficient number of gears in the box, you don’t have to listen to its hoarse howl very often.

The Chevrolet Aveo engine also sounds loud, and you hear its high-speed howl more often than in the Polo, since the gearbox has four gears instead of six. Worse in Aveo and anti-gravel protection: on a country road on the bottom and wheel arches, small pebbles drum every now and then.

The Aveo's interior is simple, but quite elegant and cheerful. The driver's seat has a more successful profile than that of the opponent, but less developed lateral support, which, with noticeable rolls in corners, is perceived as a significant drawback. The rear seat is noticeably tighter at the legs than in the Polo (smaller wheelbase has an effect), and there is just as little headroom. A third passenger can be seated here only if absolutely necessary, since those sitting at the edges in this case will have to sit half-turned.

The standard audio systems of both cars sound rather mediocre, equipped with not the most sensitive radio tuners, but they read MP3s properly. Volkswagen Polo is better reproduces low frequencies, but worse than medium and high ones, which makes the sound seem muffled; Chevrolet Aveo, on the contrary, gives out relatively good tops and middles, but weak mumbling bottoms. Both will cause dissatisfaction even among a novice music lover, but it is quite suitable for listening to the radio.

Practicality

Both cars have solid luggage compartments that can hold a lot more than you expect from compact car. If the load is not heavy, but overall, then both Polo and Aveo allow you to increase the capacity of the trunk by folding the rear seats. The difference between the rivals is that the Aveo only folds the back, revealing a narrow and uneven opening, while the Polo can fold both the back and the cushion, and the opening is larger and evener.

Under the floor of both trunks, there is enough space for a full-size spare wheel and a small tool kit.

In my opinion...
