Lada Xray with manual transmission. What is the difference between mechanical gearboxes on LADA XRAY Which gearbox is lada x ray

In the new Lada x ray, modern gearboxes are used, the development of which was carried out specifically for this model. The presented checkpoints are the next step for AvtoVAZ vehicles. They deserve to be heard positive reviews among motorists who have experienced them in action.

For xRay, there are three gearbox options, of which two were developed by the French, and the third by AvtoVAZ itself. The first two options have a five-speed mechanical switching speeds, and the domestic box robotic machine. Domestic AMT transmission quickly proved to be the most reliable and high-quality among this type of gearbox. When using it, the driver can quickly switch between mechanical and automatic modes.

Gearboxes are divided into the following options:

  • Manual transmission JR5 518 - French 5-speed, using a multi-cone synchronizer;
  • Manual transmission JH3 512 - French 5-speed gearbox;
  • robot VAZ-21827 - AvtoVAZ robotic box.

The X Ray manual transmission is divided into two options: JR5518 and JR3512. Although they both have 5 gears, they differ in the clarity of shifting and the reliability of the transmission as a whole. Unlike older gearboxes used by the manufacturer, the new ones are much quieter and have less vibration. The movement of the shift lever has become smooth and easy to move, which reduces the effort applied during the ride.

The gear shift module for x ray, which is responsible for the smooth shifting, was made in Germany. The noiselessness and strength of the box betrays the secondary shaft and new synchronizers.

Robotic gearbox in xRay

For strategic reasons, AvtoVAZ decided to replace the conventional x-ray machine with robotic box gears. Initially, this checkpoint was not accepted by motorists, but after some time it was able to get an excellent reputation, showing its advantages in practice. She was able to bypass foreign counterparts in terms of quality of performance.

The robotic gearbox has built-in electrical components that compensate for the operation of the clutch. The clutch itself was made by Valeo and the actuators are from Germany. The box has protection to prevent incorrect switching. The gearbox has low fuel and oil consumption. It has both manual and automatic modes, as well as a gear reset mode. Gear changes are quick and twitch-free.

The automatic transmission in xRay is able to adapt itself to the owner's driving style, and does not require warming up even when severe frosts. In general, the reviews of the owners are positive, but there are also questions about its work. For example, the need to fix the gas pedal or during a stop is not camping. In some cases, there may be slight twitching of the checkpoint.

Watch the video test drive with the AMT gearbox from Lisa:

Some owners Lada Xray with a cable gearbox (manual transmission 2181) encountered an annoying howl emanating from it. This lack of Xray received a lot of attention. They are trying to get rid of this problem in a radical way by installing an alternative transmission - a “robot” (AMT 2182), which, however, is also not ideal ...

Automated transmission Lada Xray created on the basis of a serial manual gearbox MKPP-2180. The development of the machine was carried out jointly with by a German company ZF. Gearbox and clutch release actuators were installed on the Lada Xray gearbox, and modern software was developed. The peak level of transmission noise in the cabin at 1500-3500 rpm decreased from 55 to 35 dB.

Alas, an extraneous sound can still appear in 1st and 2nd gears when the speed approaches 2000 rpm.

Therefore, if you notice a barely audible howl at the AMT, do not get upset ahead of time. In some cases, it goes away after a break-in, or after changing the gear oil. Another solution is soundproofing the floor of the car. In any case, the howl of AMT does not bother the bulk of motorists.

Unfortunately, the noise level of the AMT is not its biggest disadvantage. Read more…

For example, when shifting gears, shocks, jerks appear, or extraneous sounds are heard during operation (howling, hum, crackling, etc.).

Consider the instructions for determining AMT malfunctions

The check procedure is described in the book for the operation, repair and maintenance of the Lada Vesta car:

1. We make sure that the AMT control system is working, for this, turn on the ignition. Then, pressing the brake pedal, we move the selector lever in turn to all positions, while the corresponding symbols should be displayed on the instrument panel. Then, return the selector lever to position N ("neutral").

2. We start the engine. If from the clutch housing howling sound heard probably worn out release bearing clutch. A similar sound can be caused by worn gearbox bearings.

3. Keeping the brake pedal depressed, we switch the selector in turn to all positions, while making sure that the gearshift mechanism is working. Switching on should be easy, without crackling or crunching.

Comment:

  • If, when engaging the clutch the howling sound intensifies - Worn clutch release bearing. If the sound disappears, then the gearbox bearings are worn out.
  • If, when switching on the transmission crackling sound , automobile twitches means the clutch is not completely disengaged. The cause may be a malfunction of the gear shift mechanism, wear or loss of elasticity of the clutch diaphragm spring, as well as a malfunction of the clutch release electric drive. To check the gear shift mechanism and the electric clutch release, it is necessary to check the fault codes stored in the transmission control unit, so this work should be carried out at a specialized service station with the necessary equipment.

4. Set the selector lever to position N ("neutral"). We lower the brake pedal, while the car should not start moving.

5. We check the operation of the Lada Xray gearbox in motion. To do this, turn on mode A (moving forward in automatic mode) and slowly press the gas pedal. In this case, the clutch should engage smoothly. We move first with acceleration, and then with deceleration, we are convinced of the smooth engagement of the clutch, smooth gear shifting (both upward and downward), in the absence of crunching, knocking and other extraneous sounds gearboxes.

6. Turn on mode M and repeat the test, shifting gears in manual mode. To do this, move the selector lever first towards the “+” symbol and then “─”. The box should work without failures, shifting gears in the selected direction.

7. We stop the car and move the selector lever to position R. After releasing the brake pedal, the car should start moving backward.

Comment:

  • Jerks and chatter at the moment of engagement of the clutch can be caused by oiling or warping of the clutch discs or destruction of the vibration damper.
  • Untimely gear shifting , or switching on a gear that does not correspond to the speed of movement caused by a faulty transmission control unit.
  • Jerks and delays when shifting gears while driving, impact gear shifting may indicate a malfunction of the gearshift mechanism or the electric clutch release. Troubleshooting such problems involves the need to read the trouble codes stored in the transmission control unit, so this work should be done at a specialized service station with the necessary equipment. In addition, when replacing a faulty electric drive mechanism, it is necessary to tune the transmission control system. Otherwise, correct operation will be impossible.

Recommendations: If it is not possible to restore the operability of the gear shift mechanism or the electric clutch release (for example, due to the lack of spare parts), then the AMT can be converted to manual control. To do this, it is necessary to dismantle the indicated parts and install the gearshift mechanism with cable drive, as well as the clutch release cable.

8. When driving in third or fourth gear, sharply press the gas pedal. If the speed increases quickly, and the car accelerates sluggishly, then the clutch slips.

Comment:

  • Clutch wear may also be indicated by the appearance of a burning smell in the cabin, emitted by highly heated friction linings of the driven disk. In this case, the clutch must be replaced.

9. We inspect the gearbox on the flyover from all sides, make sure that there are no transmission oil leaks.

Comment:

There are more and more connoisseurs of two-pedal cars every day. No wonder that automobile concerns go to install automatic transmissions not only on expensive, but also budget models. AvtoVAZ also does not intend to lag behind global trends, as a result of which a number of its cars are already equipped with automatic transmissions. The entry into the market of the new hatchback Lada X Ray in itself implied the presence of a version with an automated box. What has X Ray prepared for potential buyers?

Lada Xray - automatic transmission or AMT?

The solution of this issue was extremely important for the company, because the domestic manufacturer intended to create a modern, technologically advanced and relatively inexpensive car. It was for budgetary reasons that the hatchback variant with the classic 5-band "automatic" was discarded, as this would significantly affect the price of the Lada X Ray. Of course, there was the option of equipping it with a 4-speed torque converter from the Japanese concern Jatco, but installing only a 4-band box was considered pointless, since with it the image of the model as a technologically advanced car would immediately fade.

As a result, it was found compromise solution- 5-band, robotic transmission type AMT of the VAZ-21827 series.

Design features of the "robot" Lada X Ray

The basis for this box was a mechanical transmission type VAZ-2180. Its design has been modernized, added the electronic unit controls, actuators supplied from Germany by ZF, clutch from VALEO and multi-body synchronizers. The oil in it is filled for the entire service life, so its periodic replacement, as in a simple "automatic" or variator, is not provided.

The gear ratios in such a gearbox are as follows:

I transfer - 3.636 units;

II transfer - 1.950 units;

III transfer - 1.357 units;

IV transmission - 0.941 units;

V gear - 0.784 units;

Main gear - 3.938 units;

Reverse gear - 3.500 units.

In general, the quality of the robotic box is inferior to that of the classic 5-band “automatic”. The robot twitches more in traffic jams, does not respond as quickly to kick-down commands, and so on. In addition, the convenience is affected by the need to put the X-Ray on the parking brake when stopping on the rise. However, it also has strengths:

There is no background noise, as well as vibrations on the gear lever.

No need for warm-up - while a conventional automatic transmission has to be warmed up before driving, the "robot" does without it. Even in the cold, you can go right away.

Towing cars and trailers is an extremely useful feature. After all, a simple "automatic" drive in this mode, as a rule, does not stand up. But for AMT Lada X Ray, towing is not terrible.

Maintenance free.

There is a gear reset mode.

Acceptable fuel consumption for city driving is 8.5 liters per hundred.

There is a blocking from erroneous switching.

"Robot" also has a manual mode.

In general, all these advantages, along with lower cost, fully justify AvtoVAZ's decision to save money and make the price of a car a little lower.

The reaction of motorists

Initially, many were skeptical, believing that the robotic box would not replace the classic "automatic". Nevertheless, as the operation progressed, all the advantages of the transmission came to light, and the absence of breakdowns added points to the AMT piggy bank. However, many believe that without a full-fledged "automatic" Lada X Ray will still be difficult to compete with other models.

The presented video briefly talks about the technical data of Lada X Ray. The AMT box is also mentioned:

In July, VAZ boxes were not installed in Khreya yet.
There are also jambs in imported boxes ...
I could not resist and drove today to replace the gears of the fifth gear. The master said that there are repairs of worn boxes, including complex ones.
They drove my car on a lift, removed the wheel and got access to the fifth gear cover:

Removed the cover, saw the gears:

They are not very easy to remove, special pullers are used. And not quickly. To my question - why don’t you warm, the master answered - only Armenians warm
As a result, everything was done in about two hours with short breaks. Oil Elf 75w / 80, poured into TO-1 with a run of 15450 (now 25200) is clean as a tear. It was poured back. Just in case, I had 700 grams left in the litrushka after the replacement, about 100 of them came in handy for topping up (they spilled a little during disassembly).
Now about impressions. At a speed of 105 km / h, I took pictures of the tidy 1. BEFORE and 2. AFTER:
1. 2.
Taking pictures on the go is not very convenient, but the difference in speed turned out at this speed of about 300 rpm. Maybe a little more. It's a pity that I removed the multitroniks, otherwise it would be more accurate in numbers (and not in the direction of the arrow).
A few more photos by which you can compare the turns I got with yours:

So far I have driven only 60 km after the replacement, so there is not enough data. But the bold plus of the replacement is already clearly visible - at a speed of 120 km / h, a strong hum ceased to appear. It is not there at 130 km / h, and at 140. It did not accelerate anymore. The silence in the cabin is unusual, but very pleasant.
Still deluded myself
Before leaving for the service station, I reset the readings of the standard BC, upon arrival I saw a consumption of 8.6 liters. I gave in, of course, the route was along the M5 Ural, which is now in perfect condition on my segment. Well winter wheels contribute to increased costs. Before returning home, I dropped the BC again, and upon arrival I found an expense of 8.0. At the same time, I gave in to the gas even more seriously in order to test the new gears. I thought about it .... The consumption cannot fall so sharply, miracles do not happen. And only half an hour later I remembered that I was driving to the service on gasoline AI 92 of the Sh network, and before the road back I filled in 30 liters of the same 92, but of the L network. Then everything fell into place, everything is fine with consumption and there are really no miracles.
In the course of further operation, I will observe the consumption, but I do not expect any special changes.
About elasticity. At 55 km / h, now, of course, you can’t turn on the fifth. Reasonable minimum- 70 km/h, and 80 is better. By the way, the hint somehow adapted and now lights up the green arrow at a speed of 75 km/h. The fourth one will now have to be tucked in more often, but this is for the best - overtaking will occur with a margin. In the presence of a cruise, such a fifth is only a plus and a joy.

Choosing a quality and reliable transmission is one of the most important points when choosing and buying a new car. You can find out which gearbox, out of those offered as a transmission for Lada XRay, will best meet the expectations and needs of potential buyers in this article.

What gearboxes are installed on X Ray

The choice is not very large - the manufacturer offered only two options in the line of available transmissions. However, the proposed types of boxes are quite capable of meeting the needs of any domestic driver.

Available for this model: five-speed robotic gearbox- AMT and a five-speed manual transmission. What they are - you need to tell in more detail.

5-speed manual transmission

A manual gearbox for Lada XRay, according to many experts, will become one of the most popular options for completing a car. As a manual transmission, a French development will be used, successfully used by the Renault concern, which, in turn, was provided to equip many Renault and AvtoVAZ models. High hatchback Lada XRay with front-wheel drive was no exception. This box shows nice results and works like clockwork.

The service life and resource of a box previously used by a French manufacturer for Renault equipment Logan second generation, there is no doubt about its quality and durability. It is quite unpretentious in use, rarely requires serious repairs.

Previously, this manual transmission has already been successfully used in the assembly of Lada Vesta, released for sale in November 2015. As Vesta's customer reviews show, this unit does not cause any complaints in work, therefore it will become a worthy choice for every Lada X-Ray buyer.

The only question that a potential buyer may have is some imbalance in terms of motor power. For some reason, the designers created a fairly rigid framework when assembling power units, so manual transmission is used only in conjunction with two not the most powerful engines. Russian engine VAZ-21129 (1.6 liters, 106 Horse power) and the Japanese H4Mk (1.6 liters, 110 horsepower) are weaker than the VAZ-21179 engine (1.8 liters, 122 hp), which is available only with AMT. For example, in the most budget version of X Ray, the power is 106 hp. may not be sufficient to provide the necessary vehicle dynamics.

5-speed robotic automatic transmission (AMT)

As for the machine, AvtoVAZ used own development- a robotic five-speed transmission with the ability to "intercept" control in manual mode. It will be possible to use the "robot" proposed by the developer to equip the Lada XRay only in the configuration power unit together with the VAZ-21179 engine, which has a volume of 1.8 liters and a rated power of 122 hp.

About how it works automatic transmission domestic manufacturer, you can find out in more detail in the numerous videos that were created by both independent experts and journalists from major automotive print publications. In general, the work of the variator was considered quite good, taking into account the latest adjustments from the manufacturer.

The disadvantages of AMT include the tendency to automatically downshift when climbing a steep slope. If the car starts to reduce power, there is a risk of losing momentum when overtaking on this hill (despite the built-in electronic system exchange rate stability). The incorrect setting of the traction control system also contributed to this misunderstanding, which dampened the engine speed when the front load-bearing wheels slipped. Since these nuances were noticed during the first test drives, there is hope that the manufacturer corrected these shortcomings in time. In extreme cases, it is recommended to intercept manual control by switching the variator.

The second nuance is common to all automatic transmissions. One way or another, the electronics “slow down” a bit with upshifts or downshifts, so there are some delays in the operation of the mechanism. An experienced driver with manual control of the transmission will get much better car acceleration than even the most advanced automatic.

Why AvtoVAZ abandoned its own mechanics

This factor may become one of the most important questions about the Lada XRay transmission. Why did the manufacturer ignore its own manual transmission in favor of a French development? There are several reasons for this.

Firstly, the French development really shows a higher level of reliability. This unit is more durable, does not require such frequent oil changes and generally behaves much better. During the operation of cars equipped with a five-speed French manual transmission, questions arise extremely rarely.

Secondly, domestic designers have not been able to fix the Russian mechanics own production back to top series production X Ray. This unit, used in some developments of the concern that preceded Vesta (for example, in Kalina and Grant), showed too high a noise level - the operation of the box was heard even in the passenger compartment, which put a lot of pressure on the nerves of many drivers.

If we take into account that the prices of the French and domestic manual transmissions are quite comparable (the domestic one is slightly cheaper than the foreign one), then this solution turns out to be the most reasonable and profitable when fully considering the assembly of the Lada X-Ray.

Conclusions for potential buyers

The conclusion is quite simple, but not too obvious. Since the mechanics are equipped with two less powerful engine, without the possibility of installing it on the flagship VAZ-21179 engine, and the machine, on the contrary, cannot be installed on weaker engines - the buyer is seriously limited in his choice. Choosing mechanics, he automatically excludes the most productive engine from the proposed line from his field of vision, and choosing automatic, he loses the opportunity to save on the engine by choosing less demanding fuel.

However, this shortcoming draws more attention to configuration Lada XRay "Comfort", in which the choice and mechanics are available with Japanese engine, and automatic transmission on a 1.8-liter engine. According to many experts, it is this equipment that will be the most sold and in demand.

The Lada Xray car has been on the country's market for quite a long time. The Internet has accumulated a lot of reviews, wishes and claims from the drivers of this car regarding the transmission. Recall that when designing this car the designers were faced with a choice: how to equip the Lada transmission, except for the version with mechanics. There were two options: an automatic transmission and a robotic transmission. The decision taken by AvtoVAZ was to choose the second option. After analyzing all the factors influencing the implementation of a particular box, the developers settled on the option with a robot. Why? And what came of it? Let's try to figure it out.

Semi-automatic on Lada X Ray

After the introduction of the Lada X Ray concept with a manual gearbox, the question of an alternative to mechanics remained open and was of great interest to potential consumers. The need to develop a variant of the box, except for manual transmission, was unconditional. This is especially true for residents of megacities who deal with such a phenomenon as traffic jams every day. Switching speeds manually using a lever in this driving mode is physically not very convenient.

The drivers wondered what kind of automatic would be on the X Ray, and it turned out to be an AMT semi-automatic (auto-manual transmission). During the time that has passed from the presentation of the Lada at the exhibition to its launch in mass production, AvtoVAZ decided to introduce a semi-automatic robotic box as the second transmission option. This type of transmission is five-speed box, according to the principle of operation, similar to a manual gearbox, in which the function of turning off and on the clutch with the road is carried out electronic system control (because of this, it is commonly called a robot).

The box at Lada X Ray was developed on a five-speed platform from the VAZ 2180 and has similar technical characteristics. Moreover, the main mechanism of this gearbox was not replaced, but only improved in conjunction with German concern Friedrichshafen.

Reasons for choosing Togliatti residents in favor of a robot

The robotic gearbox at one time made a leap in the progress of the global auto industry. However, the experience of using this development by many foreign companies, as a kind of know-how, did not always turn out to be unambiguous. In theory, this is a variant of the transmission, which is designed to create stubborn competition for automation on demand among consumers. But in reality, during many years of practice of introducing this alternative, even among eminent European concerns there were not entirely successful cases of production of cars with semi-automatic.

There are many reasons for and against choosing such a transmission. And when choosing the best option which system should be an alternative to mechanics, automobile factories compare many factors in favor of a particular box. The robot has its advantages and disadvantages. In the case of AvtoVAZ, there were the following reasons for introducing a semi-automatic gearbox.

  1. The production of a robot is less expensive compared to an automatic machine.
  2. The prototype for the creation of the robot was mechanics from VAZ.
  3. In one car, both manual and automatic switching which attracts more consumers.

Regarding the first advantage from the list, it can be noted that when using it, the manufacturer significantly reduces the cost of manufacturing a car. Due to this, AvtoVAZ was able to offer a competitive price on the market.

If X Ray was stuffed with automatic transmission ( automatic transmission shifting gears), then it is safe to say that the car would cost 50-100 thousand rubles more.

The factor that the robot was developed on the VAZ platform is even more beneficial for the formation of a relatively low price. The third plus of X Ray, as mentioned above, attracts both lovers of automation and adherents of manual control. This advantage, in addition to simplifying pricing, makes the Xray model even more successful in terms of demand and marketing in general.

Specifications and prices of complete sets with different boxes

Lada X Ray for sale in various trim levels. The cost of Lada also depends on these variations. The most budget version of X Ray with basic equipment can be purchased at a price of 590 thousand rubles. The most complete hatchback has a cost of just over 720 thousand rubles.

The creators of this model have developed for different options transmissions different types motors. A five-speed manual is produced in combination with a domestic unit, the volume of which is 1.6 liters, and the amount of horsepower under the hood is only 106. Also, paired with a manual gearbox, a Japanese-style engine with a similar volume can be equipped, but whose power is slightly larger - 110 liters. from.

AMT is combined with only one type of motor. The unit is more voluminous - 1.8 liters. With the increase in the size of the cylinders, the amount of power of this car also increased. It is 122 horsepower.

We understand the features of mechanical gearboxes of the Renault-Nissan alliance for the new Russian compact crossover.

Today is the future owners of LADA XRAY offers to purchase a car in two versions: a foreign kit with an engine from the Renault-Nissan H4M alliance (1.6 l. 110 hp) and a French manual transmission JH3, a Russian version with a new engine 21179 (1.8 l. 122 hp). ) produced by JSC AVTOVAZ and automated manual transmission LADA. A little later at official dealers there will be a symbiosis of our 21129 engine (1.6 l. 106 hp) and a foreign gearbox JR5 of the Renault-Nissan alliance, which is already used on LADA cars Vesta.

General points

In this article, we will look at the differences between the JH3 and JR5 manual transmissions, which are provided for the new compact crossover. Both gearboxes are largely the same in design, but differ in clutch release units, gear ratios in the box, gearshift mechanisms, and passenger comfort. Both one and the other gearbox for XRAY are made according to the two-shaft scheme, and have synchronizers of all forward gears, which are combined with the differential and final drive. A 3-cone synchronizer is used for first and second gear. For the third, fourth and fifth, conventional synchronizers are used. All boxes are fool-proof and block the inclusion reverse gear while moving forward. It is poured into both boxes at the factory transmission oil, the service life of which is equal to the service life of the entire vehicle. Therefore, its replacement under the planned maintenance car is not produced.

Visual differences

The JH3 gearbox clutch release assembly is a cable shift connected to the clutch pedal. The JR5 transmission clutch release unit is a hydraulic slave cylinder. The working cylinder is connected by a pipeline to the master cylinder, the rod of which is acted upon by the clutch pedal. The JH3 gearbox is controlled with a rigid rod, and the JR5 gearbox with two flexible cables. As a result, the inclusion of gears for a gearbox designed for a Russian motor will be more comfortable than it is for a gearbox for an Alliance motor. This will be especially noticeable in the very principle of switching on, which will be made easier and without the click characteristic of boxes with traction control. The advantage of the JH3 box will only be revealed at high speeds. Greater value gear ratios 3,4, 5 speeds allow the car to pick up speed faster and, as a result, faster to overtake. In terms of maximum speed, this gearbox also outperforms the JR5 box for the Russian motor. Max Speed with the Russian unit will be 5 km / h lower. But the number of engine revolutions at the same speed for a pair with JR5 will be lower.

In terms of fuel consumption, according to passport data, a pair of Renault-Nissan H4M (1.6 l. 110 hp) and a French manual gearbox JH3 will be more economical than our engine 21129 (1.6 l. 106 hp) and a foreign gearbox JR5 of the Renault Alliance -Nissan. According to the data presented on the official website of LADA, consumption in the combined cycle will be 0.5 liters less, and on the highway by 0.3 liters. The differences in fuel consumption are not so great, and if the owner is interested in lower vibration loads on the gearshift lever and easier gear shifting, then his choice will be a set with a Russian engine and a French gearbox. Another important factor will be the price of T.O. Components for a domestic unit are cheaper than similar parts for a foreign counterpart.
