Decoupage laundry baskets with your own hands. We make a laundry basket with our own hands

Ecology of life. Home: If you're having a hard time finding a laundry basket that matches your bathroom's height and volume, try making your own. Such a basket can be used not only for laundry, but also for storing clothes, toys, textiles, any large and small things. Let washing become a little more pleasant!

If you're having a hard time finding a laundry basket that matches your bathroom's height and volume, try making your own. Such a basket can be used not only for laundry, but also for storing clothes, toys, textiles, any large and small things. Let washing become a little more pleasant!

For a basket with a height of 55 cm and a diameter of 31 cm, you will need:

  • metal mesh - 110 cm;
  • gray linen or burlap (length) - 102 cm + 34 cm for the cover;
  • light linen (length) - 102 cm + 34 cm for the cover;
  • cardboard 32 x 32 cm;
  • sewing machine;
  • thread and needle;
  • wire cutters;
  • wire;
  • pliers;
  • scissors;
  • tailor's needles;
  • simple pencil;
  • construction gloves for hand protection.

Elapsed time: 1 h 20 min.

Step 1

Using wire cutters, we prepare a piece of metal mesh of the desired size. The mesh will be the base of our laundry basket. To protect your hands from sharp elements, at this stage it is better to wear thick construction gloves. The mesh is stored in a roll and will itself take the correct round shape.

Step 2

We connect the edges of the grid. To do this, you need to form an overlap in 2-3 cells and twist them with wire. At this stage, pliers may come in handy.

Step 3

We start sewing a cover for the outer part of the basket. I used a 62 x 102 cm piece of coarse taupe linen. Fold it lengthwise with the right sides inward and sew on a typewriter. You can work the edge of the seam and the top of the workpiece with a zigzag so that the fabric does not crumble.

From fabric of the same color, cut out a circle with a diameter of 32 cm.

We fold the edge of the circle and the blank from the fabric with the right sides to each other and grind it on a typewriter.

It turns out a cover that can be easily put on the grid. The top edge must be folded into the basket.

Step 4

We cut out a cut of 65 x 102 cm from light linen. We repeat all the same steps as with gray linen. We place the finished cover in the laundry basket inside out. Since the light cover is taller, there is enough fabric left to wrap it around the outside of the basket. You can use cotton lace, pom-poms or braid as an edge decor.

Step 5

Now let's start making the cover. Its base can be made of cardboard, thin plastic or a dense substrate for laminate. We cut out a circle with a diameter of 32 cm. We prepare 2 circles of white fabric, equal in diameter to a cardboard blank, plus 2 cm for allowances.

We cut out a strip of 25 x 10 cm from a light fabric, from which we will sew a handle for the lid. We fold across the front side inward, grind on a typewriter, turn inside out and iron.

We bend the workpiece, as shown in the photo, and steam it with an iron.

An indispensable laundry basket in the household is a symbol of order in the house. Any self-respecting hostess appreciates these items and, of course, wants to have them at her disposal. Today we will try to make it with our own hands.

For this we need:
- cardboard (any, can be corrugated);
- wallpaper or paper for pasting the bottom of the basket;
- paper tubes (in our case, from a check tape, white and stained with walnut stain);
- PVA glue;
- colorless quick-drying varnish (preferably glossy acrylic);
- fabric for textile insert.

We start by cutting out the bottom of the future basket, we have a cardboard blank measuring 23 x 35 cm. We cut out 2 blanks from cardboard and 2 from finishing paper or wallpaper. We paste the wallpaper on the photo cardboard, and on one of them we begin to glue the tubes.

We glue them with an interval of 1.5 - 2 cm, then we glue the sheets of cardboard together with a photo, be sure to place a load on them so that the tubes are well fixed between the cardboard sheets.

As soon as our future bottom is dry, we begin to form the walls of the basket. All glued tubes are racks and need to be placed perpendicular to the bottom. To do this, we start each tube under the next one from the bottom and bend it up.

Having raised all the racks, we will install a load on the bottom (best of all, a box that imitates the shape of a basket). It is convenient to control the racks on it, it is necessary that they stand straight and do not go to the side.

You can fasten them with clothespins on top of the box with the load. It is better to install this whole structure on a rotating “health disk” (it was produced back in Soviet times), it makes it possible to work freely with each side of the basket.
We start weaving with a regular gray rope. We use 2 colors: gray and white, and the type of weaving is rope. The first 4 rows are one-color. Next, weave with a pigtail rope with tubes of gray and white.

We have a two-color weave 16 cm high, then again weave with a single-color rope to a height that suits.

We make handles on the sides of the basket, raising the wicker rows on the racks to the desired height.

We finish weaving by cutting the racks to the height of the basket.

Now our workpiece must be well smeared with glue diluted in half with water, wait until it dries, but does not harden at all. In this state, you can correct minor flaws and align the walls of the basket.

When our basket dries, we begin to varnish it. It is better to use an aerosol acrylic varnish, it dries quickly and practically does not smell. The basket should be varnished in 2-3 layers.
Now let's start decorating the basket. Cut out the textile lining. The pattern consists of 2 rectangles, the first is the size of the bottom, the dimensions of the second are the height of the basket and its perimeter. Do not forget to make seam allowances in the second rectangle. We sew the liner, process the seams, decorate to your liking. On the sides, you can slightly reduce the height of the liner. And now, our basket is ready.

Modern washing machines require a full load of laundry with a weight of 3 to 5 kg. Therefore, every housewife knows that before filling the machine, you need to accumulate a considerable amount of things. In this case, a large laundry basket is a great helper. You can make such a useful attribute with your own hands from improvised materials. And from which, we will consider in detail in this article.

High basket on wheels

Every family, regardless of the number of people living, needs such a thing as a laundry basket. You can assemble such a roomy item with your own hands using ordinary tools. Also, for work, you will need a wire mesh, a wooden base in the form of a circle, a fabric from which the bag will be sewn, screws and wheels.

From the grid, you need to cut a rectangle with a height that suits you and a width equal to the circumference of the base of the tree. For further bonding, leave small pieces along the skeleton - they will help you when fastening the seam. Then wrap the circle with the short side, leaving an allowance of 6 centimeters. Now carefully fasten the vertical seam formed on the side of the future basket by bending short segments. Next, bend the mesh allowances under the bottom of the structure and fix with screws, attaching to a wooden circle.

It remains to sew a bag corresponding to the size of the basket, and place it inside the structure. If desired, wheels can be attached to the bottom of the structure. Such a handmade laundry basket will be a nice gift and an original decor in the interior of any room.

Bathroom bag design

For craftswomen involved in sewing, it will be easy to create a folding basket in the form of a large hanging bag with legs. True, a little help from a man will be needed. It's great if you create such a basket together.

To create the base, you need to prepare 4 beams 60 cm long and 4 holders about 30 cm, on which the bag will be attached. We connect two bars with a bolt and nut in the form of an X-shaped figure. To do this, we drill a hole in the middle of each support and fasten them with one bolt. We do the second figure in the same way. Next, the racks need to be connected with holders. To do this, you need to place them opposite each other, and nail the ends of the planks to opposite sides with studs. At the end of the work, it is desirable to sand and varnish the structure. The next step is to sew the bag.

We sew a bag

To properly cut the bag, you need to remove the dimensions of the frame. Next, cut out five parts from the fabric: the bottom and four sides. Connect all the parts and sew from the wrong side. Then turn inside out and iron. If desired, you can sew the lining in the same way. It remains to sew four strong loops to the corners of the bag. To do this, duplicate the pieces of fabric and sew three layers of material. For greater strength, it is desirable to lay several lines along and across the blanks. A do-it-yourself laundry basket for the bathroom, sewn in this way, is very convenient to use. Empty it can be folded and put against the wall or put away in the closet.

Weaving from newspaper tubes

Rattan products are very popular. But this type of needlework has a high price. Therefore, a laundry basket, woven with your own hands from available raw materials, may well take its rightful place and in no way be inferior to the things offered on the market. We will replace rattan with ordinary newspaper tubes.

To create a basket, we will need newspapers, cardboard, wood stain, a knife, PVA glue and clothespins.

Cut out a rectangular shape from cardboard. It will serve as an auxiliary base on which we will weave the bottom of our basket. With a pencil, draw vertical lines at the same distance. Their task is to indicate the location of future racks. We lay out the newspaper tubes in the designated places and fix them with clothespins. The weaving of the bottom will be horizontal. To do this, we fold the free tube in half and, grabbing the extreme rack, weave the next ones, reaching the opposite edge. We leave one part for the rack, glue the additional tube and continue weaving in the opposite direction. After the bottom has been woven, the racks must be raised, the mold inserted and weaving continued in height. At the end of weaving, we bend the last tube and glue it to the woven fabric. The basket can be stained and then varnished. So we learned how to make a laundry basket with our own hands from newspaper tubes.

Amazing thing - bottles

All kinds of products using plastic bottles have gained great popularity. This material is very light, durable and is not afraid of wet rooms. A do-it-yourself bottle-made laundry basket will be appropriate in the bathroom.

Having collected the required amount of containers, you can get to work. Before assembly, the bottom and top of the containers must be cut off. Then, in a spiral, cut the remaining parts of the bottles into strips. One container should make one tape. To facilitate work and more even cutting, you can pre-paste the bottle with adhesive tape. Weaving is convenient to start on a separate box, turned upside down. Use clothespins to secure the tapes to the base. After weaving the bottom, fold the strips along the sides of the box and continue working in a circle. Having reached the required height, bend the free ends of the vertical stripes and weave into the finished fabric. We take out the old box. You can use the bottle basket.

It is not difficult to weave laundry baskets, the main thing is desire and a little patience. Things ready for washing will always have their place.

Laundry storage baskets are a useful and convenient interior detail that helps to maintain order in the house with your own hands. Of course, such baskets can be purchased at the store, but often you want to make something original, perfectly suited in size and style, or just save money. In this case, a do-it-yourself laundry basket will be an excellent solution to the problem. In this material you will find a selection of the most successful ideas that can be implemented simply and quickly.

Weave a laundry basket with our own hands in a step-by-step master class

Stylish and durable baskets are made from wicker and rattan, but these materials are not always available. Weaving from newspapers has become a fashionable and environmentally friendly direction. Things turn out quite strong and beautiful, and practically cost nothing.

To weave a basket, you will need sheets of newspapers, PVA glue, scissors and a thin knitting needle, a ruler and a pencil, varnish, stain and any container that will play the role of a form when weaving.

It is very easy to make tubes for a wicker basket: cut the sheets into narrow strips (about 7 cm), wind them onto a knitting needle at an angle of 30 degrees, grease the corner with PVA glue. We take out the knitting needle, the tubes, if necessary, can be lengthened by inserting one into the other.

Let's start weaving a basket:
  • We take the first 10 tubes from the newspaper. We add 5 of them parallel to each other.
  • Pressing with a ruler, we bend the 1st, 3rd and 5th, apply a little glue to the 2nd and 4th and lay the 6th tube on them.
  • Then we bend the even tubes and glue the 7th.
  • Thus, we lay all 10 tubes.
  • We take one horizontal tube, turn it 90 degrees and begin to braid the rest of the tubes.
  • We continue to weave in a circle, gradually pushing the tubes apart so that the bottom becomes round. We weave to the desired size of the bottom and bend the tubes up.
  • Then you need to set the shape at the bottom and start weaving the walls of the basket. We braid the tubes of the base with a working tube. All elements can be extended as needed. We knit to the desired height.
  • At the end, we take the axial tubes, alternately intertwine each with the neighboring one, bend it inward. We cut off the long tips and hide in interlaced rows.
  • Lubricate the finished basket of newspaper tubes with PVA glue, paint with stain (you can also take paint), varnish it.

Making a fabric basket with a wooden frame

This is a foldable fabric basket that can be easily removed if necessary, and it will take up very little space. The size of the basket can also be adjusted to your liking.

For work you will need:
  • Narrow wooden slats 60 cm long - 4 pcs.
  • Tubes made of plastic, wood and metal - 2 x 36 cm and 2 x 40 cm.
  • 8 small bolts and 2 large nuts.
  • A piece of cotton fabric with synthetic additives for durability.

Wooden blanks can be varnished or painted, after cleaning the surface.

Then we cut out from the fabric and sew a basket resembling a bag. It will be interesting to look lining in a different color.

We sew narrow strips of fabric or ready-made ribbons (ribbons, straps) into the seams of the bottom of the basket. You can sew both on a typewriter and by hand. If the fabric crumbles, the edges must be hidden inside or processed.

We process the upper edge with a ribbon, sew on buttons so that the bag can be hung on a wooden frame. So it can be easily removed and washed.

The frame for the basket can also be made of plastic or plywood.

Plastic bottle basket:

Another lightweight, durable and affordable material is plastic. Laundry baskets are usually placed in the bathroom, so the stability of the thing in a damp room will be an advantageous advantage of such a basket.

To work, you will need a sufficient number of bottles and a cardboard box as a form for weaving.

First you need to make blanks from plastic bottles. To do this, cut off the bottoms and necks of the containers, they will not be needed. However, bottle caps do not have to be thrown away; interesting crafts and panels can be made from colorful caps.

The remaining parts of the bottles are cut into strips in a spiral (ribbons, 1 whole tape from one bottle). If it is difficult to cut even tapes, you can paste over the plastic with adhesive tape and cut along it.

A basket weaving mold can be made from a cardboard box by turning it upside down. It is convenient to fasten the tapes on the base with clothespins. First we braid the bottom of the box, then the walls in a circle. We take out the box and wrap the ribbons. The basket is ready!

Clothesline basket:

This stylish rope basket can be used not only for dirty and clean laundry, but also for toys and other accessories in the bathroom. To work, you will need the simplest plastic form, you can even take a new waste basket (you can find it in a hardware or stationery store) and a glue gun. The shape can be any, not only round. If desired, you can crochet a cover for such a basket.

We turn the plastic basket upside down and gradually wind the rope to the very bottom of the form. Glue can be applied at intervals of 1 cm. To make the basket look more attractive, we make several turns of rope from the inside on top (a few centimeters are enough).

In the same way, you can make a basket of twine. Twine is also used for weaving, so you can use it to make a basket like the one you can see in the photo:

Video on the topic of the article

For those who want to get new ideas for creativity, we have prepared a selection of video tutorials on making laundry baskets:

To maintain a certain style of the room, it is necessary to pay attention to even minor details. An outstanding element of the interior can destroy the whole composition.

Not everyone is ready to fork out for designer products, so some resort to an alternative solution - to independently create simple additions to the decoration of their apartment.

For example, you can profitably beat the laundry basket at the cost of insignificant efforts. All you need is patience and materials that are inexpensive and readily available.

paper basket

Before you get started, you will need:

  • Wrapping paper, brown. If it is not possible to purchase one, then you can use wallpapers with similar characteristics;
  • Scissors;
  • Glue for paper;
  • sewing machine;
  • Threads and staples.

The painstaking manufacture of the basket will take a decent amount of time, so it is better to ask the household for help.

Another budget option

Here, as in the previous method, only common and accessible components will be required:

  • An ordinary plastic laundry basket that meets the needs of your family in terms of capacity;
  • Cotton rope with a thickness of 5 millimeters or more (in order to diversify the design of the product, you can take ropes of various colors);
  • Hot glue gun.

Now let's look at the procedure:

  1. It is best to start gluing the tourniquet along the top of the plastic container, spiraling down. At the same time, you should not spare efforts to properly press the connected elements. If the rope comes off, you will have to redo everything from scratch.
  2. Keep in mind that it is not so much the cord and the surface of the basket that need to be pressed, but the adjacent rings. This is especially true for the first turns of the spiral. By alternating the colors of its segments, you can achieve an original and attractive look of the basket.
  3. Having reached the base of the container, you should, without interruption, go to its bottom and continue to curl the cord until you reach the center.
    The finishing touch will be the edging along the top edge of the basket. You can decorate it by means of a fabric or other kind of strip with a width of 3 to 5 centimeters.
    Having carried out the above, you need to wait a day until the structure is completely dry.

If you have a sewing tool at your disposal and you have the appropriate skills, then you can make an inner cover if you wish.

Any natural tissue material can be used for this. The pattern must be made so that the cover protrudes beyond the edges of the basket and, thanks to this, can be fixed around the perimeter of the outer side.

If you intend to make this accessory, the sequence of actions will change: first you need to provide the tank with a cover and fix it with an elastic band, and after that you can start decorating with a cotton cord.

How to get a rattan basket without breaking the budget?

Rattan products bring comfort to any environment, and their texture evokes pleasant associations with nature and its inherent harmony. Due to the solid cost of production, such furniture is not available to everyone.

However, there is a way not only to create something similar, but to completely imitate the wicker creations that experienced magicians work on.

So, the list of required things includes:

  • Thick cardboard;
  • Pretty paper for finishing the bottom, better resistant to moisture;
  • Some amount of waste paper;
  • PVA glue;
  • Transparent spray varnish on a quick-drying basis;
  • Narrow long needle;
  • Stain to give the desired color.

Deciding to start a meditation session, follow the recommendations below:

  1. First of all, it is necessary to make an impromptu "vine", an excellent replacement for which will be refined newspaper rods. After cutting the printed matter into strips of 7 cm thickness, you should carefully twist each one on the spoke. The procedure is accompanied by smearing the workpieces with glue. When the bonding base hardens, you need to repeat this with another tape. To speed up the process, it would be wise to use several knitting needles. In order to avoid unnecessary waste of effort, you can limit yourself to a relatively small batch, and then, having calculated the missing number of links, replenish stocks.
  2. Having received a decent number of rods, we proceed to stain them with a stain. This liquid will give nondescript newspaper tubes a woody texture.
  3. Next, we cut out two identical rectangular blanks 20 by 35 centimeters from compacted cardboard, and 2 identical rectangles from finishing paper. Combining these parts in pairs, we get the base of the bottom, strong enough and beautiful.
  4. Taking one of the prepared cardboard plates, we glue the rods to its unfinished side, distributing them with an interval of 2 centimeters. The length of each "vine" should provide a small margin for allowances.
  5. Having completed the placement of the tubes around the perimeter of one of the bottom blanks, you need to cover the resulting craft with another cardboard rectangle so that the purl planes look at each other. To avoid moving the rods, they should be fixed in some way before the glue dries, for example, with clothespins.
  6. Then we form the bases for the edges of the linen tank, that is, we bend the branches up to a position perpendicular to the bottom. It is better to use a tube support. It will be prudent to choose a box that matches the size of the future basket.
  7. Armed with the “pigtail-rope” technique, we begin to weave. Its essence lies in the fact that a pair of unidirectional twigs curl into a spiral, which captures vertical support posts into its knots. To combine the tubes into continuous rings, insert their ends into each other, and fix the joints with glue. For a change, you can alternate the rods of woody and lighter shades.
  8. Repeating the described manipulations, you will come to the desired result. If you want to equip the container with handles, then just pull a few adjacent braids to the sides. We cut the racks.
  9. The final touch will be the application of varnish on the surface of the resulting product. When the substance seizes, you can consider yourself the proud owner of a basket that is practically indistinguishable from the rattan analogue of the basket.

If you have prepared a case, then it's time to put it in your creation.

Compact laundry tank

When there is an acute shortage of space in the bathroom, you can choose the solution that is discussed in this section.

So the idea is to fit the drawer into the space under the narrow edge of the tub. This cavity has a triangular outline, but this cannot stop us. After all, it will not be difficult to give a suitable shape to the future basket.

The first step is to create a box under the bathroom. We carry out measurements to select the exact parameters, and it is most convenient to use drywall as the material. The capacity of the box and the laundry tank itself depends on the conscientiousness of the measurements.

The connecting profiles of the frame are located outside. To get the most out of this venture, you can sheathe other sides of the bathroom with drywall in one. Without taking off your gloves, you can do the facing of the completed wall with the help of tiles.
