I remember my extreme journey along the Baltija track in the winter of 2006 for a long time. The track, deeply pressed by heavy trucks, turned out to be too wide for my vehicle, which at that time was Renault-Kangu: the “heel” simply slid in the grooves beaten by tracks, like soap in a wet bath. In order not to end up in a ditch, I involuntarily had to pose as Gronholm at the Sweden Rally, actively turning the steering wheel in order to make the car go forward with its nose, and not with any other parts of the body. The narrow "heel" is ideal for the narrow streets of European towns, but not for most of our roads, which are infinitely far from ideal.

So, in my opinion, the most important advantage of the freshest Kangoo compared to its predecessor lies precisely in the increased track by more than 10 cm, thanks to which the car holds on to the road much more confidently - even if it is mercilessly slashed by trucks. Moreover, being built on the “Reno-Nissan” platform C (the same one that underlies the Renault Megan and Nissan Qashqai), the car completely got rid of the manner of its ancestor jumping over bumps, like a tennis ball, and even without a full load, it passes quite smoothly through the areas corroded by potholes and cracks. Slow delivery service

The only possible for the Russian "Kangu" power point, consisting of an 84-horsepower gasoline engine and a 5-speed manual box absolutely not suitable for long distance travel. But no matter how I tried to stir up the Kangoo, diligently trampling the gas pedal, the motor spinning into the red zone only snapped at me in response, stubbornly refusing to accelerate the car faster. Such inhibited behavior of Renault not only completely eradicates any desire to overtake at speeds over a hundred, but also in an urban environment puts you on a par with Gazelles and other purely economic equipment. However, do not think that I loaded the Kangoo with ballast to the fullest, forcing him to carry the maximum permitted 525 kg. In the car, I was in splendid isolation, and I weigh exactly five times less than the maximum allowable load.

But in a thoroughly grown up (by 180 mm in length and 160 mm in width) Renault one just wants to load something furniture! In addition, an irresistible craving for economic amateur activity is provoked by rear vest doors that allow you to drive close to the ramp, as well as a hefty trunk - 70 liters larger than its predecessor. However, due to the weak heart of "Kangu", I still would not advise exposing him to excessive stress.

And what exactly “Kangu” is able to conquer both a large and a small passenger is an incredible number of drawers, shelves and pockets that abound in the interior of the car. And all of them are surprisingly intelligent: for example, in a shelf above the sofa, resembling a bread box, you can easily remove three school backpacks.

Alas, at a price of 580 thousand rubles for the basic version of Renault, it turns out to be more expensive than the FIAT-Doblo and Citroen-Berlingo competing with it - by 49,000 and 32,000 rubles, respectively. However, it is quite possible that the initial overpayment can be reimbursed during the operation: the factory warranty for Kangoo is valid for three years or 100,000 kilometers from the date of purchase, while Doblo and Berlingo have a limited warranty of only two years.

No, it's not that they disappeared or died out as a class, they are somewhere in the corners of car dealerships. Station wagons are almost completely supplanted by SUVs, commercial vehicles for the most part are not very interesting. Released in 1999, it immediately attracted small merchants, became almost a branded postal car throughout Europe, and municipal services willingly bought up a nimble and economical French van. Not for beautiful eyes, of course, although the design of the car was more than successful. Renault Kangoo had a predecessor, whose name was Renault Rapid. It’s also a good car, but its cargo compartment volume was only two and a half cubic meters. Renault Kangoo received three cubic meters of cargo space in the standard version, but there was also a long version that could fit 3.5 cubic meters of all sorts of things.

Sales of the first-generation Renault Kangoo skyrocketed even with some pretty serious competition from Volkswagen with its Keddy, Fiat, Citroen and Peugeot. Until 2000, more than a million kangaroos were sold worldwide. This is a very good indicator, because the machine was not assembled as globally as is customary now. Only three factories were engaged in the release - one in their homeland, in France, the second in Argentina and the third in Turkey. Also, in small batches, the car was produced in Morocco. Already in the fall of 2001, the French seriously thought about releasing an all-wheel drive modification of the car, and it really went on sale in early 2002. In addition to an honest all-wheel drive transmission, the car received a new diesel engine with a 1.9-liter turbine with a capacity of 92 forces and a ground clearance increased to 205 mm.

Spacious and comfortable, but cargo

Yes, that's exactly how it is. Without ambitions and pretensions, without architectural excesses. But everything is very simple. Like it or not, but each of us also belongs to the consumer society. And when there is nothing to cut off the sausage, our man, of course, will not save and use a ruler, a credit card or God knows what else, but a real gentleman will take out a Swiss knife and carefully cut into beautiful rings. We mean that even among universal machines it is quite difficult to find such a jack of all trades and a tool for all occasions. Agree that it’s not the case to carry a motorized plow on a ragged trailer on a BMW 525, but on back seat seedlings and shovels. At least, not everyone's conscience will allow. Renault Kangoo is just the case when a car can quickly turn from a fan car for a country picnic into a working car with a load capacity of 800 kg, and then again transform into a comfortable five-seat station wagon.

Basically, this is the work of a diesel engine, the transmission practically does not make itself felt. Sometimes the wind gets confused in the rear-view mirrors, which can also somehow affect the acoustic comfort.

For the entire time of the release of Renault Kangoo, there are very few technical problems that somehow particularly annoy the owners of used cars. Most weakness mechanical box gears - oil leak through the stuffing box backstage. A trifling malfunction, which is solved by replacing the oil seal, however, for this it is necessary to remove the gearbox. also, used Kangoo often notices an oil leak at the junction of the gearbox and clutch housing.
