The press service of BMW announced that the new crossover will be presented at the Frankfurt International Salon this fall. The design of the crossover turned out to be very elegant. The dimensions of the crossover have slightly increased, which makes it more spacious and comfortable. The new 2018 BMW X3 has the following dimensions:

Under the hood of the SUV are 2.0 petrol units (xDrive20i / sDrive20i index, 184 hp, 290 N m, all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive; xDrive30i, 252 hp, 350 N m), as well as 2.0 diesels (xDrive20d, 190 l .s., 400 Nm), 3.0 (xDrive30d, 265 hp, 620 Nm). The “heated” version of the X3 M40i is powered by a three-liter in-line “turbo-six” (360 hp, 500 Nm, which is 35 Nm more than the X4 M40i). This is the first car of the M Performance line in the history of the X-Third.


The model uses improved two-lever with aluminum knuckles and lightweight shock absorbers in front and a five-lever rear. Compared to the previous generation, the suspension kinematics have been revised.

Unofficially, insiders are also talking about a potential version of the M40d. In the past generation, we recall, the maximum among gasoline versions was a 306 hp and 400 N m engine (model index 35i), and among diesel ones - at 313 hp. and 630 N m (35d). All new generation crossover motors are combined only with the eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.


The front panel is close to the interior of the new fifth series. As an option, you can get a digital tidy based on a 12.3-inch display, a color projection display with an increased area and resolution, ambient interior lighting, an acoustic coating of the front side windows (a similar windshield coating is “in the base”), a three-zone “climate” .

The X3 M40i version, of course, is the most dynamic - acceleration from zero to hundreds lasts 4.8 s (maximum speed is 250 km / h). And besides, he doesn’t eat so much - 8.2-8.4 l / 100 km in the combined cycle. Well, the most thrifty among those presented - BMW crossover X3 xDrive20d with an average consumption of 5.0-5.4 l / 100 km. In the future, a hybrid should come out, which will follow in the footsteps of the X-fifth option charged from the network, with power plant based on the "turbo". Another new crossover will please buyers with a standard selector of driving modes and optional adaptive dampers. On the X3 M40i version in December will appear steering with variable gear ratio(Variable Sport Steering), which will become an option for other modifications of the X-third.


Among the advantages of the model: static weight distribution along the axes 50:50, LED optics (rear diode lights with a three-dimensional effect - an option), active shutters in the radiator grille and a good air resistance coefficient (0.29).

The X-Third will enter the market in the fall, however, not all versions will be available immediately after the start of sales. The Russian representative office told Drive that we will have a newcomer tentatively in November. The list of engines and equipment is not yet available. By the way, in Russia in 2016, with a result of 2824 copies, the BMW X3 lost to its rivals from Lexus, Mercedes and Audi. In 2006, the crossover was updated. The shape of the bumpers has changed, as well as the taillights. The model received a new 286-horsepower diesel 3.0 and two petrol engines 2.5 (218 hp) and 3.0 (272 hp). The Bavarians also remade the interior of the car, sheathing it with new materials and flavoring it with veneer inserts.

The second generation of the BMW X3 was born in 2010. The car added 15 mm (2810) in the wheelbase, and all 83 (4652) in length. In addition, the car received a number of updates in electronics (color head-up display, improved multimedia system, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function, iDrive controller with built-in touch panel, contactless opening of the fifth door). The Bavarians have adjusted the range of engines, in particular, the premiere of a new 190-horsepower two-liter diesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger took place on the car. In just two generations, the X3 model has gained more than 1.5 million buyers.

"Calm" petrol versions are expected later. At the very end of the year, the range will be replenished by the BMW X3 xDrive30i with a two-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 252 hp, although for Russia the power will certainly be reduced to 250 “horses”. And in the spring of 2018, the BMW X3 xDrive20i will appear with the same engine, derated to 184 hp. Especially for America, a rear-wheel drive version of the sDrive20i is also being prepared. The new X3 got hold of a whole list of options not available for its predecessor. For example, you can order three-zone climate control, front seat ventilation, an air ionizer and air freshener, a key fob with a built-in color display, and a Wi-Fi transmitter for ten devices. There were also the beginnings of an autopilot: the crossover can track markings, road signs and other vehicles, lane keeping works at speeds up to 210 km / h, and later there will be a lane change function. The basic equipment has LED headlights and 18-inch wheels (previously the smallest were 17-inch).


The new BMW X3 will be produced at the same plant in Spartanburg, USA, where the old crossover and the X4, X5 and X6 models are produced. As in the BMW 5-Series, the X3 has ambient lighting in six different colors, among the options for improving information content and manufacturability, BMW suggests using a head-up display, acoustic windshield, air-scented climate control (up to eight different fragrances), ventilated seats and a large panoramic sunroof on the roof, which even goes over the rear passengers.

Other additions include the BMW Display Key (it's a smartphone-inspired key that gives you a lot of information about the car and how the alarm works, but it lacks the automatic parking system found on the BMW 5 and 7-Series), plus the crossover could be installed gesture control system.








Behind the passengers to meet a wide sofa, and there will be enough headroom for tall people. The seat is standardly laid out in proportions of 40:20:40. The X3 trunk is not inferior to its rivals. 550 liters, the same as the Q5 and Mercedes GLC and 100 liters less than the Jaguar F-Pace. With the seats folded down, the volume increases to 1,600 litres. Mercedes has the same number, Audi is inferior, and Jaguar, as before, is ahead.

The X3's slender sister, the X4, should receive similar updates in a few months.
