Traffic rules in Finland: features, restrictions, fines. Roads in Finland Finnish road signs

What you need to know when driving a car in Finland

With Finnish rules traffic can be found in Russian in the Finnish "Organization for education in the field of road safety "Liikenneturva" .

MEMO Finnish authorities on the Rules of the road in Russian

Low beam headlights must be on at any time of the day.

In Russia, motorists blink their headlights to warn of traffic cops on the highway, in Finland - to warn of deer and elk on the roads. “If you see a deer near the road, warn other motorists by flashing your headlights and taillights. Slow down immediately and try to keep the car in your lane. If the animal is moving along the road, try to avoid it. At the same time, it is worth remembering that after a deer, its cubs can follow, ”advises the Transport Security Agency.

The possibility of running into an animal on the road at night is especially great. Spotting deer becomes more difficult in poor visibility conditions during rain or low sun. In areas where deer are found, drivers are advised to be especially careful. When driving, you should concentrate and take into account the weather conditions and time of day when adjusting the speed.

Permitted speed in settlements- 50 km/h, outside - 80 km/h. The speed can be limited to 40 or 30 km/h (sign on a square yellow plate). The restriction is valid throughout the entire territory of the settlement until another sign that cancels it (and not until the intersection).

It is necessary to give way to a bus departing from a stop, cyclists and pedestrians at a pedestrian crossing.

On the highway you can not occupy the left lane with a free right.

When entering a roundabout, you must give way to traffic moving along the ring.
The driver and all passengers must wear seat belts. The fine is 35 euros. The child must sit in a special child seat.

You can not use a mobile phone without hands free and listen to music with headphones.

The tread height for tires should be at least 1.6 mm in summer and at least 3 mm in winter. It is forbidden to use winter and summer tires. Winter tires(studded or non-studded) - only after November 1, summer - after April 1.

According to the 1968 Convention on Road Traffic, every motor vehicle in international traffic must have the distinctive sign of the state in which it is registered. For Russia, this is RUS in an oval. In fact, it is very rare in Finland to require this sticker. It is most convenient to buy it and carry it in the glove compartment, so that in the case of a particularly vigilant check, stick it on the hood next to the number.

alcohol test shouldn't show anymore 0.5 ppm blood alcohol content (punishment - withdrawal of rights, a fine, possibly imprisonment), or 0.225 mg/l.

Conversion table ppm to mg \ l in ppm
0.1 ppm - 0.045 mg/l
0.2 ppm - 0.09 mg/l and so on
This formula is useful for independent recalculation, because different breathalyzers give readings in different values.

If the car breaks down, you must immediately install an emergency stop sign (“red triangle”) 100-200 m from the hood and take measures to ensure that the car does not interfere with the movement of other vehicles, especially on the highway. Be sure to turn on the dipped headlights and emergency light. On the sides of motorways, repairs are prohibited, it is necessary to remove the car from the roadway as soon as possible (call a tow truck, since towing is prohibited on the motorway).

Violations

Traffic police are rare, but traffic violations can be recorded by cameras installed along the highways (the sign is a camera on a yellow square), speed measurements are made automatically in some places. For self-control along the tracks, there are also electronic scoreboards: if the speed is higher than allowed, a red light will flash. In addition, conscious Finnish drivers, having noticed a violation, can call the police and report it.

  • Tip: mobile app "Speed cameras"(Phi) (running on the Windows Phone OS platform) will help you learn about speed cameras in Finland. It is also possible to receive alerts about approaching cameras within a range of 20 km. The application does not require an internet connection. Available in a demo version for 15 minutes, after which you will have to pay 69 rubles if you still decide to use it. (about other mobile applications which may be useful to you while traveling, read )
  • The application will not be superfluous HERE Drive+. Navigator. Works without internet connection and roaming. Offers offline voice navigation guidance in 97 countries. For the application to work, you must first download the necessary maps.

All traffic violations are recorded in the register, and a driver fined three times within one year may be banned from driving in Finland. A gross and systematic violation of traffic rules, unpaid fines, a driving ban - all this can serve as a basis for refusing a visa.

Driver's license

A Russian driver's license can be used for one year after moving to Finland.

Application for Finnish driver's license must be submitted six months after the move (category "B", cars); the application is accompanied by a medical report and a certificate stating that the applicant has been driving a car in Finland for 6 months.

A Finnish driving license must be obtained within 1.5 years of moving to the country. Otherwise, you will have to contact the driving school.

Additional information can be obtained from the Motor Vehicles Authority (AKE) and vehicle inspection stations.

AKE address:
Fabianinkatu 32, 00100 Helsinki,
tel. 020 696300,
www.ake.fi

Finnish driving style surprises Russians with its regularity. And he gives the result: the death rate on the roads of Finland is three times lower than in Russia.

In addition, Finnish fines for traffic violations are very high. A Russian runs the risk of losing his visa or not getting a new one.

Everyone must wear a seat belt

In cars and pickups, the driver and all passengers must wear seat belts in both the front and rear seats. Children must either wear a suitable seat belt or be seated in a child safety seat. According to studies, wearing a seat belt could prevent the death of more than half of the deaths of drivers and passengers of cars and pickups in road accidents.

Using a mobile phone while driving

In Finland, it is not illegal to use a mobile phone while driving, as long as the driver remains alert enough. When dialing a phone number, your eyes are taken off the road, and you need to remember that a car moving at a speed of 80 km / h runs more than 20 meters in one second. Therefore, every driver needs to monitor how talking on the phone while driving affects driving. If this distracts from driving, you should stop the car for the duration of the conversation.

Driving only when sober

Mechanical driver vehicle is considered guilty of driving while intoxicated if the alcohol content in his blood is not less than 0.5 ppm. The limit of strong alcohol intoxication is 1.2 ppm. Police identify drunk drivers by forcing drivers passing by the checkpoint to blow into their pipes. A driver suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol is taken to a medical examination or to a police station to have his blood alcohol level checked with a high-resolution breathalyzer. Possible drug intoxication is controlled by a medical examination

The violator's driver's license is subject to seizure and the offender is punished with imprisonment or a fine. Possible damage to the car while driving while intoxicated is not covered by the transport insurance.

Stopping and parking features

Mandatory use of individual parking hours.

Skip a bus leaving from a stop

Within the territory where the speed limit is not more than 60 km / h, the motorist is obliged to give way to the bus departing from the designated stop. Traffic rules oblige a bus leaving a stop to turn on a turn signal, but city buses do not always do this.

Do not use the lane reserved for public transport

Within the city limits, driving on a public transport lane (buses and trams) marked with road signs is only allowed when the driver changes lanes for a turn.

Trams should be passed at intersections.

Slow down before crossing

The motorist is obliged to give way to pedestrians or cyclists who have entered the pedestrian crossing, as well as to give way to pedestrians and cyclists when turning right or left. In Finland, pedestrians cross the street at a crosswalk, believing that any motorist slows down and let them pass.

At checkpoints across the border, the presence of a Green Card in foreign vehicles (an insurance certificate of compulsory insurance of civil liability of the owner) is checked. motor vehicle) or supplementary insurance purchased at the Finnish border. Such insurance can be issued when crossing the border and it is valid for a certain period

Compulsory insurance of civil liability of the owner of the vehicle compensates for damage caused to persons and property of an innocent party, as well as injuries caused to passengers of the insured vehicle. But the damage caused to your car from this insurance is not reimbursed. The Green Card does not cover injuries to the driver and the owner of the insured car. In Finland, Sweden and Norway, insurance purchased at the border covers injuries to the driver or owner of the vehicle when he is the at-fault party.

Insurance does not cover damage caused by a drunk driver or a stolen car.

An application for compensation for damage caused by a foreign car is submitted to the Transport Insurance Center (the national bureau of the system of international auto insurance contracts). If the damage is caused by a Finnish motorist, the issue of compensation is resolved with his insurance company.

Driving without a license plate is prohibited

In Finland it is illegal to drive a car without a license plate. The national identification must also be visible in a foreign vehicle. A vehicle exported from Finland abroad must have transport insurance issued in Finland, a driving permit and one-time driving signs that are not subject to return. A green card (auto insurance certificate) issued outside of Finland is not valid in this case.

Permission to haul can be obtained from customs and inspection stations. In this case, if necessary, you can also take out transport insurance. The data of a vehicle in temporary operation is recorded in the vehicle register.

License plates for the haul must be clearly visible.

Public transport in Helsinki

The Helsinki public transport ticket you bought gives you the right to travel by bus, tram, metro, short-distance train, and also by boat to Suomenlinna (Sveaborg) within the city for one hour. On a regional ticket ("seutulippu"), you can additionally travel to Espoo, Kauniainen and Vantaa.

In large cities, a ticket can be bought in advance at bus or railway stations or kiosks marked with the letter R. Tickets are also sold by bus and tram drivers and train conductors. There are no ticket sales in the subway.

Validate your ticket at the start of your first trip on it.

From the moment of the first composting, your ticket is valid for one, three or five days.

Almost every motorist at least once thought about making a trip to Finland by car. However, does everyone think about what are the traffic rules and fines for their violation in Finland, as well as how not to become a participant in an accident in Finland. This article will focus on just that.
Naturally, you will not find significant differences with Russian traffic rules, but insignificant ones are quite common. Any Russian citizen who decides to travel to Finland by car must take into account such minor differences.
For a better understanding of the traffic rules in Finland, it is worth concentrating on several points:
1. Finnish motorists are very careful on the roads, so you can feel calm, because no one will cut you off.
2. The structure and operation of the traffic rules of Finland has been worked out at the highest level. Firstly, when entering the country, you must definitely purchase a green card, the so-called international certificate of motor third party liability insurance. Secondly, the traffic rules of Finland do not allow any tinting of the wind and front glass, and it is also assumed that the dipped beam will always be on. In principle, there are such rules in Russian standards, but not every driver complies with them. Thirdly, the speed limit depends on the road surface, the presence of a settlement, as well as the time of year. In particular, the speed limit in different places varies from 20 to 120 km / h, in the presence of a settlement it is allowed to move at a speed of 50 km / h, and in its absence - 80 km / h. In case good pavement, then in winter the restriction is valid up to 110 km / h, and in summer - 120 km / h. Special traffic signs will notify you where the limit will be 40 km/h. True, do not overdo it, do not move too slowly. Otherwise, you will get too much attention from the police. Please note that at the entrance to the city you will be met by a road sign with a speed limit, which will be valid until the next such sign, and not until the intersection. Fourthly, there are peculiar parking rules in the country. There are two signs you can see: Pysakointi kielletty (no parking), Vain talon asukkaille (only residents of the houses are allowed to park). as a rule, parking is paid or you can park at certain hours. You can pay for a place for your iron horse using special machines nearby. Free places can be found, as a rule, near supermarkets. Fifth, very strict traffic rules in Finland regarding pedestrians. Every person who crosses the road knows for sure that they will let him through. In case of violation of such a covenant, a significant fine for the driver is threatened. It can be called absurd that in settlements pedestrian crossings are located at a distance of 50 meters from each other.
3. If a motorist has violated the rules of the road, then he should know that the fines in Finland are very high. In this country it is better not to break the established rules, since you cannot get away from the fine. There are traffic cameras almost everywhere, besides, it is impossible to “persuade” a policeman - all fines are paid through the bank, the law enforcement officer only writes out a receipt or puts it under the wipers of your car. As for simple violations, then get ready to pay 35 euros if your seat belt is not fastened, 115 euros if you exceed the speed limit, and 50 euros if your car is parked in the wrong place. But serious violations "cost" much more, here almost all vital factors are taken into account - the severity of the offense, the offender's salary and much more. Two identical traffic violations in Finland can cost people with different incomes in different ways. Since there are no limits on fines in Finland, there was also a case when the offender had to pay 100 thousand euros. In fact, a fine can be obtained for many seemingly minor violations. For example - the presence of a radar detector in a car, ignoring the requirements of a policeman and much more. Calculating the amount of the fine is very simple, there is a special counter on the website of the Finnish Police. You should not delay paying the fine, as otherwise you will face serious consequences, including the refusal to issue a visa to a country that is a member of the Schengen Agreement. By the way, the fine can be paid at the bank, consulate, as well as in Russia. It is best to do this in Finland, here the commission is smaller, and it is easier to do it.
In conclusion, I would like to note that you should not violate the traffic rules of Finland, since the consequences are too severe. If you follow all the rules established by the rules of the country, the likelihood that you will become a participant in an accident is very low. Agree that you should not run into problems such as an accident in a foreign country, and even with such serious fines. Practice shows that an increasing number of Russians are becoming participants in an accident in Finland, on the eve of even a decision was made to issue a special memo to travelers.

5. Respect the speed limit: : in settlements for cars there is a speed limit of 40-50 km / h, on most country roads () - 80-100 km/h, unless otherwise indicated, on expressways () - 100-120. Surveillance cameras monitor compliance with the speed limit.

6. Be sure to buckle up seat belts both front and rear seats. Children must be transferred in a special child seat or fastened with a special seat belt. If the child is traveling front seat, he must sit with his back to the direction of travel.

7. Acceptable throughput windshield - more than 70%, side windows - more than 75%. With a stronger tint, the Finnish police have the right to prohibit the use of a car.

8. When parking lot take into account the current restrictions. Parking in Finland is prohibited in the following places:
- in places of a break in the road profile and near turns;
- at the intersection and closer than 5 m from the edge of the crossed carriageway;
- on the carriageway in two lanes (next to another car);
- in places where a standing vehicle makes it impossible to move or evacuate another vehicle;
- in a paid parking lot without payment;
- on the sidewalk, pedestrian crossing and at the intersection with the bike path, as well as closer than 5 m from the edge of the pedestrian crossing or bike path;

- in passages under the roadbed (overpasses) or tunnels;

- in the presence of a yellow prohibition line, if the distance between the vehicle and the line is less than 3 m;
- in a parking lot outside the place marked for an individual car;
- outside settlements on the carriageway, if the road is marked with a traffic sign "Main Road".

9. Be especially careful on the road if you see a sign warning about the presence wild animals- a collision with a deer or an elk can have serious consequences.

10. Don't Forget give way to pedestrians- Finnish pedestrians know their rights, and for non-compliance with this rule, there is a fine.

11. Overtaking prohibited when approaching oncoming traffic. For overtaking with the displacement of an overtaken or oncoming car to the side of the road, you can pay with deprivation driving license. Overtaking is also prohibited on slopes, curves or in close proximity to an intersection. You should not start overtaking if it is not possible to return to traffic without causing interference to other road users or if the car following you has already begun to overtake.

The rules of the road in Finland are very similar to the traffic rules of Russia, but they have a number of minor, but very tangible features in case of their violation.

What first of all catches the eye of a Russian motorist on the roads of Finland is the high culture of not only driving, but also the organization of traffic in general. All road signs in Finland are installed in their places and logically regulate traffic, indicate the direction of flows, the roadway is even, without sudden potholes and cracks, and in general, the traffic rules of Finland are very carefully worked out. The vast majority of drivers on Finnish roads are polite and careful. Not a single Finn will decide to cut you off or impede your movement, but the speed of movement on public roads in Finland is significantly lower than in our country. This is understandable, because the fines for speeding in Finland are much higher than those currently in force, similar fines in Russia.

We will discuss a number of differences between Finnish traffic rules and Russian ones:

In built-up areas, the speed limit is 50 km/h, unless other speed control signs are posted. In large cities, you can find square signs, where the speed in kilometers per hour is indicated in black on a yellow background, for example, 30. This restriction does not apply to the nearest intersection, as is the case with similar round signs, but throughout the entire zone up to a similar square sign that lifts this restriction.

Outside built-up areas, if there are no road signs, the maximum speed limit is 80 km/h.

The speed limit on the roads also depends on the time of year and the condition of the roadway. Regarding the condition of the roadway and the speed limit on the broken section of the road, you will definitely be informed by the appropriate signs, since in comparison with Russian highways, the concept of poor coverage among Finnish and Russian drivers is strikingly different. As for the time of year, in winter on most roads where the limit was 100 km / h, a limit of 80 km / h is set, if in summer on motorways traffic is allowed at a speed of 120 km / h, then in winter only at a speed of 100 km / h.

It is also worth considering that the unwritten rule in Russia that speeding by 20 km / h is not an excess does not work at all in Finland! Exceeding less than 20 km/h is considered a minor infringement. The minimum fine for speeding in Finland is 115 euros.

  • Parking regulations in Finland

The traffic rules of Finland stipulate in great detail all the permitted places and procedures for parking your car. We will discuss the main provisions of the current rules in Finland.

Stopping or leaving your car for long-term parking is allowed only for right side roadway; when one way traffic- Parking is allowed on both sides. But in fact, in large cities in Finland it is not so easy to park your car. The fact is that parking is simply prohibited on most roads. Many specialized and guarded parking lots are organized, however, free parking lots in the squares in front of supermarkets are always the most popular.

Stopping and parking is prohibited:

  • in two lanes on the roadway
  • closer than 5 meters from pedestrian crossings, crossed bike paths and intersections
  • near curves and intersections
  • if the parked vehicle interferes with the movement or evacuation of other vehicles
  • on the sidewalk, above and below the overpass, in tunnels
  • on tram and railway tracks, as well as closer than 30 meters from crossings
  • in the parking lot outside the markings that establish the position of the car
  • on roads outside settlements marked with the sign "Main road"
  • as well as wherever a sign prohibiting stopping and parking is installed or a yellow prohibition line is drawn

Temporary parking zones are very popular in localities in Finland. These zones are marked with a special sign, which indicates the permitted parking time. The driver who parked the car in such a place is obliged to put on a special parking clock, which can be bought at any gas station in Finland, the exact parking time, rounded to the nearest whole number, and put it in a conspicuous place under windshield. In case special parking clock will not be established or the parking time will be indicated deliberately incorrectly, and also, if you leave the car for more than the allowed time, the inspector will issue you a large fine.

  • Other Finnish traffic rules you need to know
    • All passengers, without exception, must wear seat belts.
    • While driving, the dipped beam headlights must always be on.
    • Not only the use, but also the presence in the car of "radar detector" is strictly prohibited.
    • In built-up areas, you must always let the bus depart from the bus stop.
    • Usage mobile phone without hands-free devices is prohibited.
    • It is strictly forbidden to overtake if it can interfere with other road users in any way.
    • Driving under the influence of alcohol is prohibited.
    • ride on summer tires prohibited from November to February.
    • The use of the lane for special vehicles is prohibited.
  • Some information about fines for traffic violations in Finland

For violation of traffic rules in Finland, fines are imposed, many times larger than fines in Russia. All violations are clearly recorded, and there is simply no way to deal with the Finnish inspector on the spot.

For major violations, the amount of the fine is issued depending on the income of the violators and several other parameters. There are cases when for speeding by 30-40 km / h, the violator was fined hundreds of thousands of euros.

All issued fines are paid at the local bank branches. After completing the protocol, the inspector will give you a receipt, which will need to be paid no later than the deadline indicated on it.

Reading this article, an old saying is spinning in my head: “You drive more quietly, you will continue.” And indeed, it's really not worth the risk if you went on an educational journey, because it's much more pleasant to spend an extra hundred euros on some kind of entertainment.

Be attentive and careful on the roads, no matter which country you are heading to. Good luck on the roads.

  • Road signs in Finland
  • Parking regulations in Finland

"Date of last update: 04/04/2014".

Important features of the rules of the road, which are useful to know when moving around Finland on your own vehicle.

Behavior

Finland is a country with a high level of road safety. Therefore, Finns assume that all road users follow the rules and are psychologically unprepared for the fact that someone breaks them or acts unpredictably. This should be remembered to ensure the safety of yourself and others.

Road signs

Most of the road signs are identical to those on Russian roads.

Seat belts

The use of seat belts is mandatory both for drivers and for all passengers of private vehicles (passengers in the front and rear seat). When using a taxi, you are also required to fasten your seat belts. The only exception to this rule is an illness or injury that prevents the user from wearing a seat belt.

Pedestrians

In Finland, pedestrians are well aware of their rights. Therefore, when approaching a pedestrian crossing, the driver must be especially careful.

The driver is obliged to ensure an unimpeded crossing of the road for a pedestrian who is or has just entered a pedestrian crossing (“zebra crossing”). To do this, the driver must slow down and be ready to stop before the pedestrian crossing.

If the vehicle being overtaken (a car or, for example, a tram) has stopped in front of a pedestrian crossing or obscures the visibility of the crossing, do not pass the crossing without stopping if there is no traffic island or free lane between you and the vehicle being overtaken.

If the driver violated this rule, i.e. fails to stop when overtaking a car that has stopped in front of a pedestrian crossing, the police may impose a fine and, in addition, deprive the driver of the right to drive a car in Finland.

How to use headlights

The dipped headlights of the car must be turned on at any time of the day.

High beam headlights must not be used on an illuminated road, as well as at a close distance from an oncoming or ahead vehicle in order to avoid blinding its driver.

Front and rear fog lights it is allowed to turn on only in case of fog, heavy rain or snowfall.

Cellular telephone

In accordance with Finnish law, the driver is only allowed to use a cell phone while driving with a hands-free headset that allows you to talk on the phone without holding it in your hand. Any car cellular communication kits that do not occupy the driver's hands are allowed to be used.

Distance

Bumper to bumper driving is a dangerous driving style that is also common in Finland. It contributes to the creation of an emergency situation and increases the psychological burden on the driver in front.

The safe distance to the car in front is about two seconds, and even more in difficult weather and climatic conditions. Remember that at a speed of 80 km/h, a car covers a distance of 45 meters in two seconds.

To avoid collisions along the way following vehicles the police control the distance between vehicles.

Overtaking

Always overtake the vehicle in front of you on the left. If the vehicle in front has shown a left turn signal or is changing lanes to turn left, it can be overtaken on the right.

Before overtaking, make sure that overtaking can be done safely.

Overtaking is prohibited on sections with a solid yellow dividing line or in poor visibility.

Public transport

Within the territory where the speed limit is not more than 60 km / h, the motorist is obliged to give way to the bus departing from the designated stop. Traffic rules oblige a bus leaving a stop to turn on a turn signal, but city buses do not always do this.

In the city, driving in the lane public transport(buses and trams) marked with traffic signs is allowed only when the driver changes lanes for the turn.

Trams should be passed at intersections.

Roundabout traffic and turn signal

Drivers entering the roundabout must give way according to road signs and proceed in the direction indicated by the signs. At the entrance to the roundabout, the turn signal is not given.

The turn signal is given when changing lanes at large roundabouts, as well as when leaving a roundabout.

The turn signal is always given when starting off from a curb, when turning at an intersection, and when changing lanes.

Driving while intoxicated

The driver is prohibited from driving a vehicle in a state of alcoholic, narcotic or other intoxication. A driver whose blood alcohol content is at least 0.5 ppm or 0.2 mg/l when measured with a breathalyzer from exhaled air is punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to six months.

To a person arrested for driving in drunk, the police imposes a temporary driving ban and confiscates his driver's license. The temporary injunction continues until the court decides on the punishment and the duration of such an injunction.

Speed limits

The maximum speed limit in Finland is 50 km/h within built-up areas and 80 km/h outside built-up areas, unless otherwise indicated by traffic signs. For cars or trucks equipped with a trailer, the maximum permitted speed is 80 km/h, even where signs permit higher speeds.

For exceeding the speed limit by no more than 20 km/h, a fine of 115 euros is imposed on the driver. If the speed limit is exceeded, the fine is at least 115 euros.

Large speeding is considered a serious offense in Finland, the consequence of which can be a ban on driving a car.

A driver exceeding the speed limit by 40 km/h, and in certain cases less, is considered guilty of gross negligence. In such situations, the police deprives the driver of the right to drive a vehicle. In case of violation of traffic rules by a foreign driver, the duration of the ban is determined by the police officer at the place of violation.

A driver driving a car, for example, at a speed of 154 km/h where the speed limit of 80 km/h is set by traffic signs, is considered guilty of a gross violation of traffic rules and endangering traffic. A violation is considered gross even with a lower speed limit, if it was combined with other violations, creating a serious threat to the life or health of other people. In such situations, the police confiscate the driver's license and take the case to court. The penalties and the duration of the driving ban shall be established by the court.

Antiradar

The use, possession and transfer of the radar detector to another person is prohibited in Finland. In order to detect a radar detector, an official has the right to search a car or a dwelling, or to conduct a personal search. A police officer, customs officer or border guard has the right to confiscate the radar detector from its owner.

Vehicle equipment and technical condition

The driver of a power-driven vehicle must ensure that his vehicle is in good working order and equipped accordingly.

A police officer, customs officer or border guard has the right to check the vehicle on the road and may prohibit its operation due to unsatisfactory technical condition. In such cases, license plates are removed from the car, and the vehicle registration certificate is confiscated from the driver. The registration certificate and license plates are delivered to the nearest vehicle inspection station. They are returned to the owner of the car only after passing the inspection.

Tires

The tread depth on vehicles and trailers must be at least 1.6 mm. In the period from December to February, cars, including foreign ones, must be equipped with winter tires with a pattern depth of at least 3.0 mm.

Wheels with studded tires are allowed to be used from the beginning of November to the end of March, as well as at other times, if necessary due to road and meteorological conditions.

About the police

The Finnish police are known for their incorruptibility. If someone offers a bribe to a police officer, the latter will make a statement about the commission of a crime, for which a criminal case will be initiated.

A road user who has offered a bribe or other benefit to an official (including a police officer) in order to influence the execution of his official duties may be punished by a fine or imprisonment for up to two years.

A police officer, customs officer or border guard who has accepted a bribe or other benefit given to influence him to comply official duties, may be punished by imprisonment for up to two years with removal from office.

In the event of an accident

Police ambulance, a doctor and a fire brigade can be called in the event of an accident by the single telephone number 112 throughout the country (dial without area code). You can also call the police by direct dialing 10022. Both numbers can be called free of charge from any payphone. Road users are required to report an accident to the police if there are casualties in the accident or if the accident involved an elk.

Penalties for traffic violations

For a minor violation of traffic rules, the police can impose a fine for an administrative offense in the amount of 115 euros. Such a fine is imposed, for example, for exceeding the speed limit by no more than 20 km/h or for not using the seat belt.

For more serious traffic violations, the police impose a daily fine, the amount of which depends on the severity of the offense and the salary (income) of the person being punished. Such a fine is imposed, for example, for exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km/h or for dangerous overtaking.

The fine must be paid within one month, and the fine for an administrative offense within two weeks through a bank in Finland or through a Finnish consulate in Russia (it must be remembered that in this case the amount of the fine will increase by 50 euros). A fine for an administrative offense can be appealed to the court of first instance (the name of the court is indicated on the fine form). A daily fine proportional to income can be appealed to the prosecutor's office, the address of which is indicated on the fine form. An unpaid fine is usually the reason for refusal to issue a new visa to Finland.

Service stations

Usually open from 07.00 to 21.00 on weekdays and on Saturdays, and on Sundays they work on a shortened schedule. Many service stations sell gasoline 24 hours a day, some of them have cafes.

Gasoline and diesel

Sold throughout Finland. There are no discounts for tourists on the price of this product. Gasoline sold in Finland does not contain zinc. 98th zinc-free gasoline contains additives that allow it to be used in vehicles not specifically designed for zinc-free gasoline. Gasoline for cars with a catalyst is sold from pumps with a green nozzle. Black filling nozzle - for diesel.

Automatic gas stations

Neste, Shell, Esso, Venko and Teboil gas stations operate in Finland. Gas stations in Finland differ little from Russian ones. Using them is extremely simple. But there are still some subtleties. Only at the largest stations cars are refueled by employees. Most petrol stations are self-service. They work around the clock, and gas is somewhat cheaper here. Payment is made at the cash desk or through a machine. Some of the gas stations with checkout service operate at night with automatic refueling. The stations usually have cafes and shops. Here you can also find a payphone. Many gas stations are equipped with car washes (PESU) and small car repair shops (HUOLTO). Gas stations are not often found on the highway. Sometimes the distance between them reaches 100 km. So, if your "gasoline" light flashes, do not risk it - refuel at the nearest gas station. You can import to Finland from Russia full tank gasoline and 1 ten-liter canister.

parking

Prohibitions on stopping and parking are almost identical to Russian traffic rules (on pedestrian and bicycle paths, pedestrian crossings, and also at a distance of less than 5 meters to a pedestrian crossing or intersection with a bicycle path; at intersections, and also at a distance of closer than 5 meters to an intersection; if the visibility of road signs or traffic lights is obstructed; in places where the road is divided into several lanes, so that it is difficult to move along the lanes; without payment in paid parking lots; next to a solid dividing line if the distance from the car to the solid line is less than 3 meters and there is no broken line between the machine and the solid line).

It is forbidden to park on roads leading to houses in such a way that traffic on these roads is difficult; at an angle to the roadway; if it interferes with the movement of other vehicles; outside settlements on roads marked with signs main road; in designated parking areas in such a way that part of the vehicle remains outside the designated area.

Public parking

As a rule, they have a time limit indicated by an additional sign under the parking sign:

Free parking is allowed for 30 minutes with the obligatory use of a parking clock.

A similar sign, installed in combination with the "No Parking" sign, allows parking no more than the specified time, with the obligatory use of parking hours.

Validity of parking signs:

on weekdays

on Saturdays

on Sundays and holidays

Parking spaces for the disabled. Marked with markings and an additional plate. Parking in places for the disabled is allowed only with a special permit.

Private parking

Private parking areas may only be used by the owners or with their permission. Usually, in front of each parking space, the number of the car or the number of the apartment for which it is reserved is indicated.

Special parking spaces for guests, marked with a "vieraspaikka" sign.

parking clock

On the parking clock, you need to set the arrival time, rounded up to the next even hour or half hour. The clock should be placed under the windshield in a prominent place.

You can buy a parking clock (parkkikiekko) at gas stations and shops. They cost between 1-2 euros.

Paid parking

The vast majority of parking lots are paid. A ticket purchased from a parking machine (the machine accepts euro coins) must be placed in a conspicuous place under the windshield.

This sign indicates paid parking with a time limit. Payment at the parking machine is required in case of parking on weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm, on Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm. The rest of the time, parking is free.

The maximum parking time can also be indicated - this means that a parking ticket cannot be bought for a time longer than indicated on the sign.

fines

Penalty for wrong parking issued by either the police or parking attendants.

Typically, such fines are imposed for non-compliance with parking rules in cities and towns, non-use of the parking disc, improper parking, as well as for leaving the car engine on unnecessarily (maximum 2 minutes, at air temperatures below -15 degrees Celsius).

The fine ranges from 10 to 50 euros. Payment term - 2 weeks.

If the fine was not handed over to the driver personally, the receipt is attached to the car in a conspicuous place.

If the fine is not paid on time, a penalty equal to half the amount of the fine is charged. In case of non-payment of fines and penalties, the case is transferred to the debt collection agency.

If the owner or driver of the car considers the fine unjustified, then he can appeal the decision to the authority that issued the fine. Complaints must be filed within 2 weeks of receiving the fine. Filing a complaint does not exempt from paying a fine. If the issued fine is found to be unjustified, the money will be returned.
