The difference between the BMW series and m. Accurate restyling of the BMW F10

What now? The Bavarians have added two more hatchbacks to the existing bodies: the BMW 3 series Gran Turismo and the BMW 4 series Gran Coupe. And confused us completely!

Do not look at the fact that now some of the cars (sedan, station wagon and Gran Turismo hatch) belong to the 3 series family, and the coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe belong to the fourth. Yes, the “fours” have a different design, a wider track and less ground clearance, but this does not change the essence: the platform, the engines, and the interior are essentially the same. Moreover, at first glance, the difference between the models is absolutely minimal.

Of course, a fourth-series car of more status, as planned, cannot be equipped with weak engines. If the "three" is at least 316i, then the minimum index of the "four" is 420i and not a single less. There is also a little richer equipment. But not as much! Look at the price: if the most basic BMW 420i Gran Coupe costs 2 million 266 thousand, then bmw sedan 320i can take 1 million 919 thousand. The difference is 350 thousand. Not a lot!

And, unlike the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, which looks a million times cooler than the usual "five", the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe does not look significantly more expensive than the "three rubles". At least in the “vacuum”, but if you put two cars side by side, you will immediately see that the hatchback is lower, wider and generally cooler. Moreover, one of the equipment packages is already assigned to it by default: Sport Line, Modern Line or Luxury Line. Depending on the choice, the “four” will differ in bumpers, wheels, interior decor and some other equipment. At the "treshka" you still have to pay extra for them.

What's the difference in driving? All the nuances of handling must be described with the word “seems”. The BMW 4 Series "Gran Coupe" seems to be a bit sharper and more precise to handle than a regular sedan. It seems that at the same time, the suspension is even a little more energy-intensive, and although the BMW only slightly rounds out small irregularities, the car copes with larger ones quite confidently. Or does it just seem?

In any case, on the road, the "four" behaves remarkably. The only complaint about the car is that on a straight steering wheel it is too light and a little empty. However, this is "treated" by ordering the M-package.

It certainly doesn't feel like the 428i's two-litre engine is great. He has perfect stats: 245 Horse power and 350 Newton meters is enough for the “four” to catapult from a traffic light to 100 km / h in six seconds, humiliating a pair of tuned hot hatches along the way. And yet, five horsepower falls short of the draconian vehicle tax rate. The 435i version is simply not needed in this situation: the difference in dynamics with the 428i is not radical, and if you really want to burn it like hell, then you should immediately take the M3 or M4.

Even the engine sounds great: at medium speeds it hums like a six-cylinder, and closer to the top it fills with a typical BMW trill. True, it's quiet, but if you want an indecently loud soundtrack, again, you need to look towards the M-models.

Eight-speed automatic transmission gears from BMW with a trick. In fact, there are two of them: regular and "sports" versions. You can understand which version is on the car by the paddle shifters - if they are, then it’s “sports”. She has absolutely the same hardware and even the same gear ratios. The difference is in the “software”, which allows you to click gears faster. And although the usual "machine" has neither slightest problem with switching speed sport mode this allows you to save another couple of tenths when accelerating to hundreds. And at the same time, to pull the driver a little when switching, which, with the super-smooth thrust of the turbo engine, is perhaps even a plus.

But still, where is the same chic? After all, the same can be said about the usual sedan of the third series. And if the X6 is radically different from the X5, and the "six" Gran Coupe from the usual 5 series, then everything is a little more complicated here.

Practicality? Yes, the BMW 4 Series "Gran Coupe" looks like a sedan (whatever the name says) but has the functionality of a hatchback. Trunk volume is 480 liters, which is exactly the same as a regular three-ruble note, but you can fold the rear backrests and get 1,300 liters with a wide opening. But for those who are especially practical, there is the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo: its trunk is not only even larger (from 520 to 1,600 liters, just a minute), it has a longer wheelbase (rear passengers more spacious) and ground clearance higher (to the driver - not so scary on bad roads).

Wow, they planted a garden!

However, this is not the fault of the "quartet" as such. It’s not bad, it’s just that the usual “three-ruble note” of the Bavarians came out so brilliant that it’s almost impossible to improve something in it. Another indirect confirmation of this is the recent restyling, in which the BMW 3 Series, in fact, received new engines and several new options. And that's it!

The BMW M Sport Package, the most expensive of all offered by the automaker, is designed to highlight the sportiness of the car, emphasize its brightness and individuality among other vehicles.

The BMW M package includes special interior details that differ from standard BMW components, aggressive bumpers, original wheel bigger size wheels and special suspension.

We are talking about a sports M-suspension with a clearance lowered by 10-20 mm. It is perhaps the main difference from the standard BMW cars from a technical point of view.

The wheels are usually fitted with low-profile sports tires.

In the cabin BMW M package includes aluminum inserts, sports seats, special wheel, black ceiling and Alcantara upholstery. There are also other personalization options at different prices to choose from.

The sports modifications developed by the BMW M GmbH division are very seriously reworked production cars. Here, special motors of the M series are assumed, which are more powerful, more dynamic than other units, with a sports gearbox, gearbox and a specific exhaust system, different from the units of high-volume BMW models.

The suspension of the M-modifications is also different than the suspension of the standard models of the brand, and wheel disks look different and have higher speed characteristics.

The interiors of the M series are finished with the finest materials.

Unlike the serial version, the exterior of the M-version has its own special style, aerodynamic body kits are made in it, and the “gills” on the front fenders can be called the highlight of the appearance. The BMW M is also distinguished by the characteristic //M badging (2 stripes - blue and red).

However, this nameplate can often be found on ordinary BMWs, which have nothing to do with the “charged” M-series cars. In such a simple way, some unlucky motorists, apparently, are trying to add a little "status" to their image. We see no other reason.

In summary, cars with the BMW M Sport Package are more expensive than regular cars, but much cheaper than BMW M-series.

german BMW company has been producing city cars since the beginning of the 20th century. During this time, the company has experienced many ups and downs as well as successful releases.

This century-old brand has a very complex car indexing system. Each body is assigned its own alphanumeric index. They depend on the body configuration and model generation. In this article we will try to understand the features of the numbers of these models. over the years, their generations - read all this further.

First lineup

Since 1995, the company began producing civilian vehicles. The first lineup did not have alphabetic indexing, but consisted only of numbers. The model number directly depended on specifications car. For example, the BMW 1800 model had an 1800 cc engine. cm.

A little later, the creators began to expand the range and create variations standard cars. Letters were assigned to the digital index at the end. For example, L stands for a luxury version of a sedan, LS for a sports version, and so on. Now let's figure out which BMW bodies began to be produced after the 70s of the XX century.

New lineup

Having changed the entire model range, BMW has also improved the numbering of the bodies of its cars. These changes were associated with the release of the fifth series. All bodies received the prefix E in front of the digital index. The numbering of individual model variants was indicated as follows: for example, BMW 525 means that this car belongs to the 5th series and there is a 2.5-liter unit under its hood. Additional letters after the index indicate the type of engine: gasoline or diesel.

But back to the BMW numbers. The E12 body is the first model in the 5 Series. Four years later, the 3rd and 7th series of the lineup appear. The former were indexed with the E21 body, and the latter (luxury, executive sedans) with the E23.

Since then, each has received a name based on the design of its body. These were indexes with an E prefix and a two-digit number. Models with this numbering were produced until recently, after which the platform index changed. But more on that later. To begin with, let's deal with the numbering of bodies by series of the model range.

1-series

The first series of BMW, the body of which is also indexed with the addition of the letter E, dates back to the moment the company was founded. Then this model meant sports coupes and convertibles.

The first car was the M1 with an E26 body. Now the car is considered quite rare, since at that time only about 450 of them were produced. The Z1 is a convertible that was also part of the first series.

Three- and five-door hatchbacks with indices E81 and E82 were added to the series. Also this year, the intake of two bodies (E87 and E88) began, which were restyled versions of the coupe and convertible.

3-series

The first car of this series appeared with a body type E21. It was a cramped 2-door coupe that was not very popular as it was new to the automotive community. The next type, the E30, was already practically an icon and forerunner of the modern BMW style. The body has become wider and more spacious, and the design has been made more modern. "Troika" (E30) can still be seen on the roads in our country.

From 1990 to 2000, the company produced E36 and E46 bodies, which differed little from each other. In 2004, the current generation of the third model appears with the E90, 91, 92 and 93 bodies (sedan, station wagon, coupe and convertible). The car stayed on the assembly line until 2011.

After that, the company decided to replace the E body platform with a completely new one. This is how the F series of bodies appeared. Types such as F30, 31, 34 have been produced from 2012 to the present.

4-series

This series is relatively new - its release began in 2013. In fact, this car can be considered a modification of the "troika", made with the help of bodies F32, 33 and 36 (coupe, convertible and 4-door coupe).

5 series

Middle business class in model range The company was presented with the fifth issue. came out back in 1972 with an E12 body, as mentioned above. Since then, the model has gone through 6 generations. Each a new version became more perfect than the previous one, so now the car is not recognizable.

After the E12, the E28 body saw the light in 1981, which differed little in appearance. Basically, all the changes concerned the technical part of the car. The E34 body, which rolled off the BMW assembly lines from 1988 to 1996, took a step forward compared to its predecessor - smoother lines and a solid image were created.

In 1996, the E39 body appeared, which was produced until 2003. Many fans of the brand did not like this version of the “troika”. Most likely, the discreet and unremarkable design affected. The body of the E60 was radically different from all its predecessors. Despite the fact that it was still the same platform, the creators managed to create something unimaginable with the design of the car. It is not like all other BMWs (the body color in the company's assortment was only black and silver, and all other variations were cars repainted by tuning enthusiasts) and remains popular to this day. Release this body stopped in 2010.

The body generation F10, 11 and 07 are still in production. BMW body numbers were distributed as follows: F10 - sedan, F11 - station wagon and F07 - coupe. The car has already gone through one restyling and is in great demand among motorists.

6-series

The business class coupe has been produced since 1976. The car survived 3 generations. The first is the E24 body, the second is the E63 and the third is the F12, which has been produced since 2012. By body this machine called a 2-door coupe. In the F13 variant, the car is a convertible hardtop.

7 series

This series is a representative class of BMW. It originates in 1997 and is produced to this day. In total, in this model range, the body and platform changed six times. The first car is E23. It is followed by the E32 and E38 bodies, which were produced until 2001. From 2001 to 2008, the E65 and E66 variants (regular and extended bodies, respectively) were on the assembly line. This generation is the most popular and recognized of all the company's vehicles due to its reliability, comfort and power.

The following models until 2015 were produced with F01 and 02 bodies. Starting from mid-2015, the company began production of a new generation of cars with G11 and 12 series bodies. This vehicle is one of the most expensive to maintain - the repair of the BMW 7 series body, the restoration of its technical part is very expensive for the owners.

X series

In this model range, BMW crossovers are presented. The body of these cars with the index E83. The youngest of them is X1. The crossover had only two generations. The second one is still in production today.

Mid-size crossover from the Bavarians - X3. Its release began in 2010 using the E84 body. In the second generation, the car is manufactured to this day and is delivered to Russian market through authorized dealers.

X5 - the most old model in this series. Its first generation with an E53 body was introduced back in 1999 and lasted until 2006. The E70 body was produced until 2013. Now the third generation is being produced with the F15 index.

BMW X6 in this series stands apart. The car is a hybrid of a large 5-door hatchback and crossover. The car is produced in a single generation and in a body with. During this time, two restylings were carried out.

Now you know the answer to the question of what BMW bodies were produced depending on the class and series. In addition to the generations described above, the Bavarian company also has a Z series (coupe and convertibles) and a special sports M series. The latter should not be singled out as a separate subgroup, since the M index is a refinement of existing production models.

Now German cars automobile concern BMW in Tajikistan is at the peak of popularity. If a year or two ago, Tajiks were afraid of buying a BMW for the reasons that spare parts for BMW are not only expensive, but also custom-made. But time passed ... Now there is no difficulty in finding this or that auto part for BMW (and not only for it), and people realized that BMW does not bite at all, moreover, now fans BMW more than any other car brand.

But it's about something else. With the advent of BMW, as with the advent of something new, people had a lot of questions, and this is understandable, because BMW has many models, modifications, the head will spin ... And probably the most pressing question is what is the difference between the M version of BMW and a simple BMW or a BMW in the M-package. Either they call the BMW M series an M-package, or they call “wholesale” all sports BMW M series with the name “M5”, because in fact the M5 is just the M version of the 5th BMW series. Each BMW model has its own M-marking. And the list is endless.

After spending a couple of dozen minutes surfing the Internet to find information about what are the differences between the M-package and the M version of BMW, unfortunately, we did not find anything sensible. It becomes clear why people are “in the tank” and cannot get out of it, because there is no information, and for this reason they cannot differentiate BMW correctly.

To dispel the puzzle, the site team wants to talk a little about BMW models and point out the main differences between simple, M-packages and M versions of BMW models.

The BMW model range is divided into large groups: numerical series, Z series and X series. X - a series of urban crossovers, and the marking X stands for the xDrive system, in other words, this is a cross-drive system (some call it also all-wheel drive). The X series includes: X1, X3, X5 and X6. The Z series (meaning from the German word "Zukunft" - future) is a sports car with an open body. The Z series includes: Z1, Z3, Z4, Z8. BMW numerical series include sedans and station wagons (but it’s more correct to call Touring, Opel and Mercedes-Benz have station wagons, and BMW has sports touring, BMW thinks so), which include models: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Now to the main question “the difference between eMoks and simple BMWs”:

Firstly, the M version of a particular class of BMW takes the top-end engine, while the M division further strengthens it. For example, the BMW X6 50i and X6 M have identical 4.4 petrol engines, but the BMW X6 has 407 horsepower, and the X6 M has as much as 555! The difference is already 148 horsepower ...

Secondly, and most prominently, is the appearance. The appearance of the BMW M series also differs from the usual production version with an aerodynamic body kit: a bumper, skirts and rear bumper made in the special style of the BMW M series. But, a distinctive feature of many BMW M series are the so-called gills for additional air intake, which are located on the front fenders of the car. By the way, in some M BMW models, the wheelbase is also wider.

Thirdly, the gearbox of the M versions is reinforced and modified. For example, in the BMW M5 of the E60 body, there is an SMG gearbox.

Fourthly, in M versions there is always a special exhaust system(behind you can see 4 exhaust pipes). The exhaust roar of the M versions is richer.

Fifth, the BMW M's suspension is also different from conventional suspension, as speed increases, the car needs to stay confident on the road.

Sixthly, branded BMW M series wheels differ from everyone else in appearance and have high speed performance on the road. They are also much lighter in weight. And in general, the whole car is aimed at reducing weight for faster acceleration.

Seventh, the interior of the M versions is finished with the finest materials. The car is equipped with a special equipment of the M series interior. Gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, projection on windshield, leather upholstery with signature M embroidery, a sports steering wheel and more.

Same way hallmark The BMW M series is a distinctive ///M badge (letter "M" with three tricolor stripes: light blue, blue and red). However, anyone can buy such a badge and hang it on the same diesel engine, which is far from power and bmw configuration M series. Such cases, especially in Tajikistan, are far from uncommon. Why, some people manage to attach such a nameplate to both Opel and Daewoo ...

A bit of explanation: M-package is additional package retrofit to achieve appearance BMW as M. Usually such a kit, retrofitting, is made at the factory itself to order. But cases of retrofitting after the release of the car are not rare. It turns out that they change body kits, but what is under the hood and the suspension itself remain the same. You can meet BMW 530d - diesel engine volume of 3 liters, and outwardly the car will be like the M series. It is not uncommon for a car to be upgraded not just to the M package, but to the M package: bumpers, skirts, exhaust pipes, etc. Almost everything that is listed in the article changes.

By the way, some small "cloudy" statistics. The following series of BMWs are popular in Dushanbe: 3, 5, 7, X5 and X6. At the same time, there are not so many M versions, about 3-4 pieces of BMW M3, in the same amount of M5, as for the X5M and X6M, they can also be counted on the fingers of one hand.

P.S. And remember, diesel M versions of BMW do not exist in nature. There is, for example, the X6 M50d is a BMW X6 with diesel unit 3.0 and three turbines, and outwardly - BMW M Performance. It's powerful enough, fast enough, similar to the X6 M, but it's a diesel X6.

Finally - a selection of handsome BMW M3, M5, M6, X5M and X6M!
