"Below the waist" front panel is still tough, like Putin's policy. But otherwise, the Koreans tried their best. We got to the point that in expensive trim levels, the soft plastic of the “torpedo” top is stitched with a natural thread a la skin-tight! The interior of the Sportage is really good, especially in terms of ergonomics. Successful separation in height (on top of multimedia, below - everything else) has been preserved, but now the center console with clear rows of large convenient buttons is slightly turned towards the driver in the manner of classic BMWs. Could you imagine this on the "people's" Kia?

Another important step forward is chairs. Yes, I wish the pillow was a little longer. Yes, there is not enough memory for settings in the presence of electrical adjustments, which, by the way, are already a dozen. But it has become more comfortable to sit - the profile, stiffness, lateral support are well chosen. Plus, ventilation can be ordered.

In general - good! Sportage added a little wheelbase: up to 2670 mm - plus 30 mm to its predecessor. But, contrary to official information, the stock of legroom (according to our measurements) did not become much larger. However, rear passengers the new model is still more convenient. The floor is lowered, the sofa cushion is optimally positioned in height and inclination, there are recesses for the knees in the backs of the front seats, and the roof goes higher.

And you no longer feel left out against the background of the front riders. Of course, there is no separate multimedia, but a 12V socket, USB and, finally, central air ducts were added to the armrest and an almost flat floor. And the backrest, divided in a ratio of 40:60, received an increased range of adjustment and full heating.

What's with the trunk?

Without any surprises: the former Sportage was also distinguished by its not very spacious main compartment, but the bottomless underground. However, the new model has a number of useful improvements. With a constant body width and a reduced rear overhang, the linkers were able to carve out a little more space for cargo: an increase in the top versions with a full-size “reserve” is a symbolic liter (up to 466 liters), but on the base version with a dokatka - 491 liters. The loading height has decreased, and the removable curtain can now be hidden in the “basement” (again, if there is a stowaway) or fixed on the floor. The only pity is that there were no guides on the walls of the trunk to move the curtain in the working position.

The trunk lock button was removed from the dirty area, raising it higher. However, if you activate the contactless opening, you won’t even have to fumble under the bumper with your foot. You just need to have the key in your pocket and wait 3 s. Conveniently? Opinions are divided...

What motors?

From now on there are three. The most popular will probably again be an inexpensive and equally dull petrol aspirator - 2.0 MPI for 150 forces. And only those who decide to pay almost the price of a German premium for a Korean crossover will have additional prospects. For example, Sportage for 2,069,900 rubles is a pseudo-sports version of the GT-Line, which is loaded with a new 1.6 T-GDI petrol (177 hp) with turbocharging and direct injection from the cee "d GT hot hatch. On the test of this version was not, therefore, we can only judge its capabilities so far only by the platform .

Yet we have reason to believe that the best engine 2.0-litre turbodiesel to remain in Sportage range 185 hp (from 1,819,900 rubles). After modernization, he no longer frustrates with high consumption, and even in the "slipper on the floor" mode, he does not eat more than 10 liters. In addition, it still pleases with high traction on the bottoms (400 N∙m in the range of 1750-2750 rpm) and good elasticity: only 5.2 s is required to dial “hundreds” from 60 km/h. All in all, great option for the city. Diesel is blown off only at high speeds and revolutions, but even before the era of unlimited autobahns in Russia, it is still very far away.

Wireless charging and navigation with TomTom plugs are progressive things. But the instrument cluster looks poor, the windshield still does not have full heating, and three of the four power windows are automatic.

What about transmissions?

Everything is pretty ordinary. In the base - six-speed mechanics and front-wheel drive. A six-speed automatic appears in the Comfort version (from 1,399,900), and all drive wheels are priced at least 1,479,900 rubles. By the way, the diesel Sportage and version 1.6 T-GDI come only with 4WD, and the turbo engine is also combined exclusively with a seven-speed robot with two dry clutches. The reliability and quality of the operation of such a scheme is an open question.

The tried-and-tested all-wheel drive Sportage with a classic automatic showed himself to be a badass. The box juggles gears deftly, softly and predictably. In turn, the Magna automatic coupling for connecting rear axle found a common language with the stabilization system and therefore works without panic haste - preventively, that is, even before the driver remembers its existence.

An error occurred during the download.Sportage received a bunch of electronic assistants: control of "blind" zones, keeping in the lane, recognition of signs, auto-braking in case of a threat of an accident ... There are only questions about the work of the car park. The video shows how slow it is. In addition, he was able to drive the car into the cell far from the first attempt. And I was also surprised by the lack of active cruise control, although there is all the necessary equipment for it.

Have you become quieter?

Formally, yes. Kia reports a total increase in "noise" and a decrease in the level of sounds from the engine and the road. But still we will not call the new Sportage a silent. Cold diesel on Idling makes the floor and chairs vibrate, the wind howls distinctly in the area of ​​​​the front pillars and mirrors, and the work of suspensions and the rumble of tires is heard on the chipped asphalt. At the same time, the test cars were shod in thoroughbred Continental tires, but I don’t even want to imagine how the crossover on inexpensive spikes “speaks”. However, the same Toyota RAV4 is an order of magnitude noisier, and this does not stop buyers.

Shaking less?

From the smoothness of the ride, the impression is twofold. On the one hand, Sportage, even on seemingly even surfaces, manages to find flaws and immediately report them to passengers. The crossover shakes at the joints of the asphalt, throws up on the waves, and even small cracks-holes cause itching on the body. In general, you expect more delicacy from family transport.

On the other hand, the Sportage's suspensions are clearly more energy efficient. You can spit on the primer at 80 km / h and no longer close your eyes when attacking large gullies - there will be no breakdowns, like its predecessor. And further important nuance- all test cars had low-profile 19-inch wheels (a sign of the top Premium package). Obviously the usual 16- and 17-inch wheels will make the car softer on the move.

On the asphalt "knocks down"?

Thankfully, the Sportage is no longer showing off, trying to pass off as false sportiness too sensitive brakes and nervous reaction to the gas at the beginning of the pedal stroke (which was especially annoying in traffic jams). Now something similar happens only when switching to Sport. But since the steering wheel is also tightened in it, and the machine becomes more cheerful, the sharpness of the reactions is not annoying, but really helps to go faster.

In the automotive industry, at least in the mass, it’s like this: new model build on the basis of the comments of customers to the old one. And what did not suit the owners stylish crossover Kia Sportage of the outgoing generation? According to Russian marketers of the Korean brand, they complained about interior trim materials, uncomfortable front seats and a modest range of available options. One did not have enough headroom in the second row, others scolded the visibility. However, the driving manners of the past Sportage, they say, suited both Russians and Europeans. Does this mean that the new car, like its predecessor, rides so-so?

Claimed ground clearance- 182 mm, a centimeter more than before. The front overhang increased by 20 mm, the rear overhang was shortened by ten. Angles of entry and exit - 17.5 and 24.6 degrees against 22.7 and 28.2 before.

Together with fellow journalists, we scolded the old Sportage for years, mainly for the suspension. Before this presentation, I refreshed my impressions, took a ride in a car from the last games and made sure that they were scolded for a reason. On the move, the car is hard and flabby - the front suspension loudly sounds the passage of bumps, breakdowns in large pits shake the body, in corners - noticeable rolls, and on a wavy highway - buildup. A bunch of problems! However, we seem to have been heard. The new Sportage on the go differs from its predecessor for the better.

Finishing materials, visibility and driving position are better, steering wheel and seat adjustment ranges are wider. The GT-Line version pictured here features a chord-cut steering wheel, metal pedal caps and a different pattern of leather seat upholstery.

Contrasting dashboard good, but there is a lot of plastic around the onboard computer display. The central 8-inch touchscreen, traffic jam navigation and JBL audio system are the prerogative of the Premium and GT-Line Premium versions. In simpler cars - “music” with a 3.8-inch monochrome screen or a multimedia system with a seven-inch display.

On 19-inch wheels, the new product pays as much attention to the micro-profile of the canvas as its predecessor on 17-inch wheels, but it has become noticeably softer on medium and large potholes. I drove through a bumpy crossroad at a speed of 80 km / h - not a single breakdown! The crossover is still far from exemplary smoothness, yet it notices a lot of irregularities, does not exhaust, but shakes. However, in general, the chassis is more energy-intensive and pleasant than in the same Tusan.

The front seats, lightened by 2.5 kg, have a new frame, denser padding of the pillow and side support rollers. The rear sofa has become a little denser at the edges and 10 mm lower. The back can be tilted not by two, as before, but by as many as seven different angles - in a range increased from 28 to 37 degrees.

Improved handling. With reconfigured electric power and suspension, with a more rigid body, the Sportage responds more quickly to steering turns and pleases with adequate feedback. You enter turns more confidently, you hold onto the trajectory on serpentines more firmly. The brakes have also become clearer: the free travel of the pedal has slightly increased, but with an emergency deceleration, you no longer need to stand on it with both feet. Questions were left only by cars of the GT-Line series, which, according to the settings, supposedly do not differ from other versions. At speed, alternating impulses come to the steering wheel, as if someone else is driving with me - with the electronic assistants turned off!

Diesel fuel consumption in the combined cycle during the test - 9.6 l / 100 km. On the highway with uniform movement, 7.5 liters per hundred came out, on a fast serpentine - 11 liters each.


Adaptive bi-xenon headlights are available only in the expensive Premium and GT-Line Premium trim levels (from 1,929,900 rubles), and the low-range xenon is also available in the Prestige version (from 1,699,900). All other versions are halogen. Rear diode optics - on average "Prestige" and above.

Under a more interesting chassis, a capable power unit is asked. For example, a 177-horsepower 1.6 T-GDI turbo engine with a preselective "robot" that allows the crossover to gain a hundred in 9.1 seconds. But this is only on the pages of a press release. And in front of me are the most expensive modifications with a two-liter turbodiesel (185 hp, 400 Nm) and the classic six-speed “automatic”, known from the previous model. Let the spurt to hundreds take already 9.5 s, but complaining is a sin. In the cabin, the diesel gives itself out only by traction - rushing from the very bottom! Switching is soft and fast enough: in most situations, the “automatic” selects exactly the gear that you are waiting for. Acceleration under a quiet murmur rolls smoothly, but powerfully.


In corners, the Sportage is more neutral than its predecessor. With an increase in speed, the smoothness of the ride improves, and the sound insulation surrenders: tires make the most noise, often side mirrors sing along with them.

While the traffic is thin, the normal mode of operation of the power unit is enough. But in a dense urban crowd, the Sport program is more suitable for a motor with a box. The connection through the accelerator becomes tougher, the reactions to the fuel supply throughout the entire rev range become more lively. So it is easier to occupy the vacant space on the road, to dose traction. There are no difficulties with overtaking on the highway, although after 120 km / h the diesel noticeably declines. We did not check the Magna electro-hydraulic clutch that connects the rear wheels this time, but on the previous Sportage it worked quickly - and, unlike the Tusan unit, did not suffer from a tendency to overheat.

To the left of the steering wheel are the control buttons for tracking systems for blind spots and markings. The keys near the “automatic” selector change the operating modes of the power unit and transmission, turn on the automatic parking attendant (not ideal) and mountain assistants. In front of the gear lever there is a platform for wireless charging of a smartphone, as in the new Optima.


When loaded under the curtain, the trunk volume is 491-1480 liters against 465-1353 liters before. The loading height has been reduced from 779 mm to 732, and the level of the raised floor is selectable. Cargo minus - the lack of a hatch for long lengths.

No matter how good the diesel Sportage is, with a price of 1,819,900 rubles, it can be immediately entered into the Red Book. Although version 1.6 T-GDI is even more expensive - from 2,069,900 rubles. It is clear that the majority will choose the Sportage 2.0. He does not have a lively character, but progress in other aspects is more noticeable in him. It's more comfortable here! The salon is trimmed with more pleasant materials, the seats are improved, the ranges of their adjustments have increased. Front and rear are now freer both at the legs and overhead. Narrowed pillars and enlarged mirrors improved visibility. And the list of options was replenished with bi-xenon headlights, an electric tailgate, blind spot monitoring systems, lane keeping and traffic sign recognition.

GT-Line crossovers can be recognized by special bumpers, original 19-inch alloy wheels (the Premium version has a different design with the same diameter) and a pair of deliberately protruding exhaust pipes.

Koreans have pleased, if not all, then - the majority. Journalists will grumble less, customers will be more willing to buy. This year, the KIA representative office expects to maintain a 12 percent share of the segment, which was staked out by the previous Sportage. In 2015, we managed to sell 20,751 cars - demand fell by 32.2% against, for example, 40.6% for Tiguan and 30.4% for Toyota RAV4. We can say moderately. Therefore, in my opinion, there is no reason why the new Sportage will not cope with the task. With this combination of price, equipment, powertrains and reconfigured chassis, he has all the makings for success.

Technique


The fourth-generation Kia Sportage crossover is based on a modernized predecessor platform. The wheelbase has increased from 2640 to 2670 mm, the front and rear tracks have slightly expanded. As before, McPherson struts up front, multi-link rear, but the characteristics of the springs and shock absorbers are now more comfortable. The controllability is affected by the modified suspension geometry, toughened rear silent blocks and the steering mechanism: instead of 2.8 turns from lock to lock, the steering wheel makes 2.7. Wheel bearings have become stronger. A full drive has not changed. The rear axle is connected by Magna's Dynamax electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch, which can be forcibly locked at speeds up to 40 km/h.

The body, despite the similarity of silhouettes, is new. The share of high-grade steels has increased from 18 to 51%, more parts are made by hot stamping, the total length of adhesive joints has been increased from 14.7 to 103 m. As a result - increased by 39% torsional rigidity of the body, according to which the new Sportage bypassed the old one Volkswagen Tiguan. The aerodynamic drag coefficient has been reduced from 0.35 to 0.33, more effective noise insulation has been applied on the roof, in the front, side and rear pillars, on the floor and around the central tunnel. In order to reduce vibrations, the engine mounts and rear subframe mounts have been modified.

The supercharged "four" 1.6 T-GDI of the Gamma family was introduced in October 2011. Direct fuel injection, twin scroll turbocharger, variable length intake tract, exhaust phase shifters. On the Sportage, the unit with a working volume of 1591 cm³ produces 177 hp. and 265 N m, although, for example, on the cee'd GT hatchback - 204 forces. The crossover turbo engine is paired with an exclusively preselective “robot” with two “dry” clutches.


The R-series aluminum four-cylinder turbodiesel debuted in 2009 at the last Tusan. Variable geometry turbocharger, third generation Bosch battery injection with piezoelectric injectors ( operating pressure- 1800 bar) and particulate filter to comply with Euro-5 standards. Before modernization, this engine developed 184 forces and 392 N m, now - 185 and 400. Reasons: a lightweight cylinder block, an optimized turbocharger, piston rings with a reduced coefficient of friction, an improved cooling system and exhaust gas recirculation - plus a variable displacement oil pump.

In the early nineties of the last century, KIA introduced the world to its first SUV. No one had heard of crossovers then, so that appeared in September 1993 Sportage first generation was worked out according to the classical scheme: frame structure, fixed front axle, two-stage transfer case with reduction gear, dependent rear suspension. At first, Sportage was produced with a two-liter petrol engine with 95 or 128 hp, as well as an 83-horsepower turbodiesel.


There were two body types: with three and five doors. The three-door could have both a hard (steel) and soft top, but the second modification was in limited demand and was sold mainly on the local market. In Europe, a five-door version was offered (length - 4245 mm, wheelbase- 2650 mm), which was assembled at the facilities of Karmann.

Eight years after the start of production, the first Sportage was updated, retouching its exterior and interior, as well as replenishing it motor range turbodiesel with a volume of 2.2 liters. On the basis of the five-door, they began to produce a modification extended by 305 mm. This Sportage received the title of Grand. In 1999, the production of an SUV was launched in Kaliningrad, where it continued to be produced until 2007. The total circulation is 554 thousand cars.

Introduced in September 2004, the second-generation Sportage was less utilitarian. The frame was replaced by a reinforced load-bearing body, instead of a demultiplier, a viscous coupling was used in the drive rear wheels. The suspension became independent - McPherson struts "in a circle". In addition, the Sportage turned out to be a clone of the Hyundai Tuscon crossover.


One of the few advantages that distinguished the Sportage from its competitors was the 175-horsepower V6 engine (241 Nm), which endowed the small crossover with convincing dynamics. Also in the lineup were the gasoline “four” 2.0 Beta II (138–142 hp) and a two-liter CRDi turbodiesel (112).

If the predecessor model was content with two gearboxes to choose from, then the "second" Sportage - three ("mechanics" with five and six steps, as well as a four-band "automatic"). Customers were offered versions with front or all-wheel drive. Crossover production was established at factories in South Korea, Slovakia, China, the Philippines, Ecuador, Ukraine and Russia. The release continued until 2010. In total, 842,200 cars rolled off the assembly line.

The company introduced the third generation Sportage in 2010. The car again shared the base with fellow Hyundai ix35 / Tucson. The front suspension remained similar (McPherson struts, which acquired a greater slope), but a multi-link appeared at the back with spaced springs and shock absorbers. The stiffer body also contributed to improved handling.


Perhaps one of the biggest pluses of this model is the design created by Peter Schreyer.
