Renault Duster crash tests according to EuroNCAP. Test drives and crash tests Renault Duster in our market

Almost every model of any modern car manufacturer undergoes mandatory testing by a special European committee Euro NCAP. This service constantly organizes car crash tests, and helps automotive companies create safe vehicles.

The Renault brand tests each individual modification. Recently, photos and video materials of the Renault Duster crash test have hit the network. The car was designed on a solid and simple platform and as a result showed good results.

EURO NCAP and Duster results

In general terms, we can say that the car, according to the inherent level of safety, is designed more for passengers than for pedestrians. Everyone who is inside the crossover during a collision receives a safety level equal to 3 stars. It means average level. The maximum you can get in this category is 5 points.

Worse things are with the safety of pedestrians. According to the results Renault Duster crash test showed 1 star. Thus, the company still has something to try. First of all, developers and engineers will need to refine the external components in order to increase the level of pedestrian safety.

The Renault Duster crash test result is 3 out of 5 stars.

The euroncap renaulstory test score also provides drivers with a unique opportunity to explore the potential of a crossover package and understand the vehicle's functionality. The first thing you need to show potential buyers is strong and weak sides car. This is the only way to win the trust of the public.

General safety in the car

According to an independent study, adult passengers are 74% protected while in the Duster cabin. Frontal collisions pose a danger to all passengers, including the driver. vehicle. The results show that at the moment of impact, an enormous pressure is applied to the chest of each crossover inside. And this despite the fact that all airbags worked on time. Such pressure, according to the standards of the European Bureau, is considered too strong and dangerous to human life.

Surprising were the indicators taken from the lower part of the cabin. The leg area of each passenger remained virtually undamaged. None of the mannequins were seriously injured. Thus, the safety of the car becomes quite high.

It should also be noted that with a strong blow to the car body, the door opened luggage compartment. Although the indicator is insignificant, according to authoritative experts, it is very informative. It makes it possible to modify some parts of the body, improving their strength. This is especially true for door locks.

The overall rating of the car was 11 points. According to the NCAP criteria, this equals 3 out of 5 points. The indicator is average, but in comparison with many similar crossovers and budget cars the same generation - the result is good.

Series of tests:

  1. The test to imitate a strong impact of a modification with a pillar turned out to be the most unsuccessful. Here, Duster scored only 6 points, which makes the company's management think about improving the base of the body and the possible use of revolutionary materials.
  2. The result of a side impact with a pole. This point should be analyzed in detail. The test was carried out several times and each time the result was almost the same. When the impact occurred on the passenger side, the force of the collision caused the driver's door to open. The fact is that in high-quality machines this should not happen. And so improvements are inevitable. The result is 7.2 points.
  3. Rear kick. Despite the efforts of Renault's security developers, the off-road vehicle model could not please its customers with unique performance. The collision of the car from behind showed that the passengers were seriously injured. The main of them fell on the cervical spine. Rating - 5.2 points.
  4. Children. According to information from the conclusion of Euroncap Duster model was able to save children in the cabin by only 78%. The committee's requirements are much higher. Therefore, it will be necessary to work on improving this indicator.

Active safety systems

In almost any modern car there are special systems active safety. This system provides for alerting the driver of possible threats and difficult conditions. To ensure their functionality, it is necessary to correctly position all the sensors and correctly lay the power cables.

The modification of the first Duster, as well as the restyled one, is unique in that of all the possible active safety systems in the car there is only one - the control of fastened seat belts. It is presented in the form of several sensors. Like for a crossover national importance, which has received worldwide recognition - the result of the crash test is not great. Received two points in this test. The SUV configuration, although an affordable and inexpensive option for the company's customers, can still include several modern technologies.

Special attention is paid to the result already familiar to Renault - the airbags for passengers, including the driver, worked accurately. This characteristic is an integral part of the brand's popularity. From the very beginning, the concern installed only high-quality and reliable pillows on its cars. Each model of the French company demonstrates excellent protection for both the driver and passengers during critical collisions.

Additional security systems

Since car security is internal and external, both options should be considered.

As already described above, the engineers did not place revolutionary systems inside the machine. The greatest achievement can be considered the protection of children inside the cabin. During the tests, two mannequins were placed in the back row. Both the frontal and side collisions did not injure a single passenger. On the contrary, each dummy was held in its seat during each test. Conclusion - the smaller the mass of passengers, the less damage.

Safety of others

The restyled model could not improve the performance of its predecessor, and remained unfriendly to pedestrians. Their safety is only 28%. Such indicators were the lowest in the results of Euroncap.

The hood and front bumper instantly inflict critical damage to the legs of pedestrians. The head area also suffers significantly. As doctors say, this instantly leads to fractures, sometimes open ones.

Accordingly, the modification during the next improvements should be improved in several directions at once. And the first of them is the level of safety of others.

What is the result

After a detailed study of all collisions carried out by the Euroncap committee, Renault's assessment was satisfactory. The experts considered this to be wrong, since serious shortcomings were revealed in the tests. But, as practice shows, this car can travel on roads.

All owners and potential buyers should know after the Renault Duster test what this car capable of safety criteria.

Renault Duster crash test 2017

The end of this year turned out to be very eventful for the Euro NCAP organization: the results of the previous series of crash tests were published only two weeks ago - and now a new batch of victims has arrived. This time, fifteen car models took part in the tests at once, which can be divided into two groups - newcomers and old-timers of the market.

Automobile Comprehensive Assessment Pedestrian safety Preventive Security
BMW sixth series GT 86% 85% 81% 59%
Dacia Duster 71% 66% 56% 37%
Hyundai Kona 87% 85% 62% 60%
Jaguar F-Pace 93% 85% 80% 72%
Kia Stinger 93% 81% 78% 82%
Kia Stonic (basic version) 85% 84% 62% 25%
Kia Stonic (with safety package) 93% 84% 71% 59%
MG ZS 71% 51% 59% 29%

Among the seven new products, four cars earned the maximum five stars: these are liftbacks (some of the results were taken from the donor fifth-series sedan) and, a mid-size crossover and a compact SUV. The "Five" was also awarded the crossover, which in Europe occupies the same niche as Rio X Line in Russia, however, there are two nuances. Firstly, the maximum rating is given only to versions with a safety package (it includes automatic braking systems and tracking road markings), while without it there are only three stars. And secondly, the tests of Stonik were not actually carried out! Since this SUV repeats in terms of the power structure of the body and equipment, the Euro NCAP experts simply assigned Stonik the marks earned by the original hatchback.

For us, the crossover test results are much more interesting, because in a year and a half or two years this model will appear in Russia under the Renault brand and will inevitably repeat the market success of its predecessor. Alas, in the current Euro NCAP rating, the new Duster received only three stars, although it surpassed the previous model in terms of safety. The loads on the front riders during a displaced impact on a collapsible barrier are reduced (but still exceed the absolutely safe threshold), a side impact on a pole no longer threatens the driver with fatal injuries. Although after a head-on collision with a wall at a speed of 50 km / h, which is more demanding on the vehicle's restraint systems, the Duster's front riders risk their heads: overloads are high. And the seats still don't protect against whiplash in a rear-end collision. Pedestrian safety has been improved, but the main reason the Duster didn't get more than three stars is the lack of electronic assistants. However, more on that later.

Another three-star newcomer is Chinese compact crossover which entered the UK market. Passive safety he is not exemplary, and the most disastrous positions are the same as those of Duster: a frontal blow into an indelible wall and a collision from behind. And he also has no electronic assistants in the same way.

The same circumstance has become the main stumbling block for most old-timer models on the way to a high safety rating.

Automobile Comprehensive Assessment Front seat safety Safety of child passengers Pedestrian safety Preventive Security
Alfa Romeo Giulietta 72% 56% 59% 25%
D.S. 3 69% 37% 55% 29%
Fiat Punto 51% 43% 52% 0%
Ford C-Max 76% 60% 59% 29%
Ford Grand C-Max 76% 60% 59% 29%
Opel Karl 61% 60% 58% 25%
Toyota Aygo (basic version) 74% 63% 64% 25%
Toyota Aygo (with safety package) 82% 63% 64% 57%
Toyota Yaris 83% 80% 63% 57%

The message of Euro NCAP is simple: cars that hit the market a few years ago are not as safe as new ones. Of the eight cars that have been sold in Europe for several years and have now been tested by Euro NCAP, only the recently updated hatchback was able to earn five stars. Its passive safety is not ideal (the loads on the legs and chests of riders exceed the injury threshold), but there are systems for automatic braking and tracking markings.

Four stars earned even more compact hatchback Toyota Ago. He has the cherished electronics in the list of options (without it, the final rating is completely three-star), but he fell asleep on a frontal impact into the wall: loads on the chest and head rear passenger turned out to be prohibitive - serious injuries are guaranteed.

And now the most interesting. Hatchbacks, and Opel Karl, as well as a compact van (its rating was automatically assigned to the short version without the Grand prefix) in general showed a level of protection for riders close to Aygo: rating for passive safety - from 61 to 76%. But modern electronic assistants for automatic braking and road marking control are not entitled to them even for a surcharge. Therefore - only three Euro NCAP stars.

Well, the hatchback crash test became the most resonant. The choice of this model seems strange: under the name this car debuted back in 2005, and already this December it was going to be discontinued, but at the insistence of the trade union, the production period was extended until July 2018 in order to load the Fiat plant in Melfi with something. Twelve years ago, the Grande Punto became the first B+ class car to achieve a five-star Euro NCAP rating, but now the organization says that the Punto is now also the first car in history not to receive a single star! Paradox?

Of course, over the past twelve years, Euro NCAP standards have been made stricter, and Punto itself has not become better. If in 2005 a hatchback with six airbags earned 13.6 points out of 16 for a frontal overlap crash test, and a maximum of 18 points for two side impacts, now the base Punto with only two airbags has six points out of eight for a frontal crash. -test and 6.7 points out of 16 for the lateral (hitting the pole was not carried out due to the lack of security curtains). Loads on riders are great, but even with such results, the Fiat Punto could scrape together two stars out of five. If it were not for the notorious electronic assistants: the Italian hatchback does not even have seat belt warning devices, not to mention the auto-braking system. Therefore, the score for preventive security is 0 points. And if at least in one of the disciplines the car gets a “steering wheel”, then, according to the current Euro NCAP rules, all the stars scored are burned out.

Is such a value system with an emphasis on electronic assistants fair? Even in Europe itself, the Euro NCAP organization is increasingly reproached for the fact that the chosen path of toughening tests is not entirely correct. In this regard, the example of the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety IIHS, which introduced in 2012: 25% of the front end instead of the usual 40%, is indicative. In this case, the blow most often falls past the spar, the main energy-absorbing element. Moreover, the Americans hit cars not only on the driver side, but in some cases on the passenger side of the front end. On such a test, many famous models burned down, and manufacturers began to take such a test into account when designing new cars. There may be more benefits from this than from electronic assistants. Which, of course, does not cancel the introduction of the latter.

Next year, the Euro NCAP committee promises to introduce new, even tougher test rules. And which approach appeals to you more: European, with an emphasis on assistive electronics, or American, with tougher crash tests themselves?

In the interior of the car in the video during the Renault Duster crash test, everything remains stable in a frontal impact, but the rear door opened, during the evaluation of the crash test, a fine was imposed on the car. Protection chest was rated as the top front seat. On the driver's side, the instrument panel shows that there was a danger to the life and health of people with different sizes and those who sat in different positions, the protection on that side was rated as marginal. When hit from the side of the barrier, the door from the driver's seat opened, and the car was fined again. During the hard side impact, none of the doors were opened, and therefore the driver's chest was not protected. The cervical spine was not protected in the event of a rear-end collision.

Passengers are children

During the dynamic test, the vehicle scores high with 18 months of dummy protection. While driving, the 3-year-old dummy in the car seat had good control in the frontal impact and both dummy were protected during the impact with the barrier. In the event of a collision, the airbag may be deactivated so that the child seat is not damaged. The information provided to the driver about the airbag is not clear enough.

Pedestrian protection

During the crash test, the Renault Duster did not score for either the bumper or the leading edge of the hood because it had poor pedestrian leg protection.

Additional security systems

An electronic control system is available, which is stable as an option on the 2014 Renault Duster, so it was not scored in the crash test. Once again, we remind you of seat belts, they are standard equipment for the driver and passenger in the front seat. The system meets all Euro NCAP requirements.

The new generation of Duster did not have time to appear on the roads of Europe, and it has already been tested for strength. Naturally, the old power structure of the body on the B0 platform, although it became known as global access renault, did not add strength to this. Today we offer to watch two videos at once. Crash test of the first and second generation of the crossover.

Naturally, in Europe, where Renault Duster is sold under the Dacia brand, the test was carried out with Dacia Duster, which is not much different from Renault Duster. To begin with, let's recall the first test of 2011, when the first generation crossover was tested. Let's watch the video.

As a result, rather weak performance and only 3 stars. The video is pretty scary. The body folds up like it's made of foil.

What has changed in the second generation Duster, if even with a new body it again received 3 stars? You think there was no reinforcement of the supporting structure, most likely the manufacturer took into account everything weak spots and most warp zones have been reworked. But do not forget that over the years, security requirements have become more stringent. Therefore, there was no breakthrough, the same 3 stars according to Euro NCAP. Check out the latest video.

True, this time the picture is not so terrible. All the same, an abundance of airbags and electronic systems make the car a little safer.

A detailed report on the tests carried out can naturally be read on the website www.euroncap.com, and specifically on this page www.euroncap.com/en/results/dacia/duster/29898
There is also a link to the PDF file, where it is beautiful, with multi-colored pictures, everything is told and shown.

It is a pity that it was not possible to bring the level of security to at least 4 stars. So expect the impossible budget crossover new generation is not worth it.

Today we will talk about Renault Duster safety. True, there is one important nuance: In 2011, it was crash-tested by an independent Euro crash test NCAP car Dacia Duster, which, although almost completely copies the Russian Duster, but still has some differences. The Russian Duster was not subjected to a crash test, so we accept the decision of the Euro NCAP commission as the main data.

According to the results of the crash test, the Dacia Duster crossover earned 3 out of 5 stars. Driver and front passenger protection was rated at 74%, child passenger at 78%, pedestrians at 28%, and general level security — 29%.

Here's what the driver and passenger protection looks like:

And so - the protection of children:

Pedestrian protection:

More detailed information about the crash test can be found on the official Euro NCAP website (euroncap.com/ru/results/dacia/duster/10968).

Now let's talk about what security features are offered on the Russian Duster.

Firstly, the driver's airbag is available in each version, both in the pre-styling car and in the restyled one, which has been produced since mid-2015.

An airbag for the passenger is available only in the most expensive version of the Luxe Privilege, the same goes for side airbags. But for some trim levels, special safety packages are offered, which, for example, include an airbag for the passenger and a third head restraint for the rear seat.

You can learn more about security features on the page with.

Please note that the Euro NCAP tested vehicle was equipped with driver, passenger and side airbags. As power unit used diesel engine volume of 1.5 liters, coupled with all-wheel drive.
