Honda SRV 2 generation debuted in 2002, on the platform of the 7th generation Honda Civic. The crossover was produced until 2006, in 2005 the model was restyled.

In this article we will talk about all the details of the 2nd generation Honda SRV, problems and “sores”, specifications, service according to official recommendations of Japanese Honda dealers, photo and video test drive.

Honda CR-V first Generations The first Honda CR-V was a response to the RAV4 challenge from Toyota (although it is believed that the RAV was developed earlier than the RAV 4). Thus, he brought a new level of practicality to the SUV class and Honda brand identity.

The Honda SRV became a bestseller in its day and the company used a win-win formula in its second generation. But since 1997, the CR-V class has been increasingly crowded with competitors, with virtually every manufacturer having an urban crossover.

Can a second RTV compete successfully in this dense market?

Of course it can. Honda SRV 2 generation is built on the current "global small car platform”and after 2001, along with the Civic and the new Acura RSX, became the third car of the Honda family to reach North America. Despite being made in Japan and the UK, the CR-V's largest market is still the US.

As usual, the second CR-V comes in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive “Real Time 4WD” versions.

And, as before, pluggable four-wheel drive means no low gear and limited off-road capability. Do you want to cross the Rubicon trail? Take a Jeep or Range Rover.

And if you need to drive on a winter or country road, then the Honda SRV 2 is just right. 8.1 inch ground clearance not suitable for deep off-road. But this clearance is great for stability on light off-road and maneuverability in the city.

Honda SRV 2nd generation

Technical part

Modified front MacPherson struts don't feel like overkill, and rear double wishbones aren't new to Honda. The suspension works well even when going through fairly large holes. Honda SRV 2 provides a soft and stable ride. A car with this suspension is controlled with absolute precision, but within reason, you will not be able to drive aggressively, but that's not what a CR-V is bought for.

Standard disc brakes provide excellent response and short stopping distances.

In the second generation, engines of the K series appeared, with a volume of 2.0 and 2.4 liters; diesel engine. The first unit was 2.0 liter, developed a capacity of 158 Horse power and 194 Nm of torque.

2nd unit, this is a 2.4 liter atmospheric 4 cylinder engine, developing 160 horsepower and 224 Hm of torque. For horses, the increase in power is not high, but in terms of torque it is excellent.

The transmission has not undergone major changes, it is either a classic “automatic” or a manual gearbox.

Exterior and interior

Honda SRV 2, increased in size, became longer, wider and taller than its predecessor. The increase in dimensions had a positive effect on the capacity of the cabin, it became more comfortable to sit in front and behind.

The wheelbase has not increased, but there is more legroom for rear passengers, and indeed on the CR-V 2 long trips became a pleasure due to the comfort in the cabin.

Externally, the crossover is more modern than the previous generation, freshness is given by a thick black composite front bumper, multi-reflector headlights and huge taillights. All this gives the car more modern look, compared to the old CR-V.

In the second generation, Honda's corporate identity can be traced, but you can hardly call the crossover beautiful, but spare wheel on the back door so it stays hanging.

The exterior evokes mixed feelings, the interior clearly surpasses it.

The dashboard has changed almost completely, the power windows have been moved, and the automatic transmission lever has become located on dashboard American style.

The front seats, covered in wear-resistant material, are well shaped and comfortable in profile. folding backseat, which makes the interior of the CR-V truly functional, can accommodate two passengers comfortably and three for short periods of time. A seat belt is provided for each passenger. If there is no one in the center, the center console folds out with two large cup holders.

Like the previous CR-V, the second-generation rear seat folds out to become a picnic table.

Complete set

The base "LX" CR-V comes with cruise control, power windows, mirrors, air conditioning, and an AM/FM/CD sound system.

The next EX - all-wheel drive - adds tinted windows, remote keyless entry, alloy wheels, side airbags, a sunroof and a six-disc CD changer.

Honda CR-V reviews owners

Generation 1

Manual transmission (Mechanics)

  • Nikolay, Tomsk. They gave me a car for my birthday. I hinted to my relatives that I wanted a supported Japanese, but not the same ... So they plopped a finger into the sky, but I was also to blame, I should not have said. In general, while riding a Honda CR-V. Wheelbarrow supported, with a run of 150 thousand. Eats 12 liters of fuel, under the hood of a 2.0 engine and mechanics. I'll give it back to my parents when I collect it for RAV-4.
  • Anna, Lipetsk. Honda CR-V great car newbie. Classic crossover with front-wheel drive, 2.0 engine and manual transmission. Fuel consumption 10-12 liters.
  • Oleg, Nizhny Novgorod region, 2.0. Bought one for myself in 2015. Supported Japanese 1995, ended up in good condition. According to the previous owner, the car was brought to us in Russia in the mid-1990s. The car has already been used, right-hand drive of course. FROM gasoline engine 2.0 and a manual transmission, fuel consumption is an average of 13 liters per hundred mileage. The SUV is equipped with all-wheel drive. Now on the odometer about 300 thousand mileage, I'm surprised how this Honda is still alive. This is what Japanese quality is - I was convinced once again.
  • Maksim, Stavropol region. Machine with a two-liter engine and mechanics. Picked a Honda CR-V for secondary market, got a copy with a range of 100 thousand km. The technical condition left much to be desired, I decided to overhaul. Completely replaced the suspension - shock absorbers, bushings, levers, silent blocks - all this was replaced. I changed the interior a bit - I changed the seats to leather ones, with improved lateral support. The 2-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 130 hp remained the same, but it received a small chip tuning, now it produces 150 hp. Fuel consumption used to be 12 liters, increased to 13-14 liters per hundred run. I liked the car. Soon I plan to buy something else for my Japanese woman.
  • Konstantin, Yekaterinoslavl. Honda CR-V is a car with character. Despite the outdated design, the car still makes me and my family happy. It is easy to manage, I even let children steer at a closed training ground. With a 2.0 engine and manual transmission, fuel consumption is about 12 liters per hundred.

Automatic transmission (Automatic)

  • Kirill, Perm. Got a Honda CR-V automatic transmission. First generation machine, maintained of course. We didn't sell such new cars at that time. This Honda has a glorious history - surprisingly it has a left-hand drive, which means it came to Russia from Europe. Rumored to be in used condition. Then there were three Russian owners, they ran into it for a total of 300 thousand km. It turns out I'm at least the fourth Honda owner 1997 CR-V with red body. This is the most top version, since there is an automatic. Fuel consumption is 12-14 liters per hundred.
  • Alexander, St. Petersburg. I have a first generation Honda CR-V, I decided to save money on a Japanese and get to know what Japanese quality is in the 1990s. The car was normal, got in good condition. Consumption with automatic transmission and 2.0 engine is about 12-13 liters.
  • Konstantin, Vorkuta. I liked the car as a whole, well, where else can you find a crossover in such good condition. Of course, it was necessary to look among the Japanese, namely - model range Honda. Our CR-V is generally a popular car, so the choice fell on it. Cramped rear interior, simple materials. Budget-level car, there are not enough stars from the sky. It's like a normal transport to move around the city. Although under the hood is not the weakest 2-liter engine, giving out about 130 forces. Fuel consumption with a gun about 13 liters per hundred.
  • Vladimir, Yekaterinoslavl. My Honda CR-V is a versatile car, although it is more suitable for the city than for the highway. He has a rather weak 130-horsepower 2-liter engine. The automatic gearbox spoils everything, which often stumbles on the highway and does not allow to accelerate normally, because of it the consumption increases. Things are better in the city. Comfortable, with a practical interior and soft suspension. Consumption of 12-14 liters per hundred kilometers.
  • Lyudmila, Nizhny Novgorod region. Such cars are rare in our city, which is why I took them to stand out from the rest. The original car, with its jambs and pluses. With a gun, dynamic and comfortable car. The two-liter engine produces 130 forces, it is enough. Consumption 12 liters.

Generation 2

Engine 2.0

  • Vitaly, Yekaterinburg. The crossover is worth the money. Honda CR-V is the epitome of style and reliability, but not luxury. A simple interior, solid materials, and the body design does not cause any emotions. Almost like a conservative German. The machine is equipped with a 2.0 engine and automatic. The city consumes 13 liters.
  • Marguerite, Peter. This car has everything that I like. Dynamic motor, agile machine, all options. Fuel consumption is an average of 12 liters.
  • Svyatoslav, Vologda region. The car was produced in 2002, I bought it in a car dealership, with a guarantee, with all options. I have the top version with such a motor. There is an automatic transmission, and a two-liter engine produces 150 horsepower. Car with all-wheel drive, fuel consumption is 12-13 liters per 100 km. Wheelbarrow comfortable in the cabin, decent sound insulation engine compartment. The interior is assembled with high quality, but the plastics are frankly cheap and hard. Sometimes I let my wife steer, and after the CR-V she began to love SUVs, now the Chevrolet Tahoe wants ...
  • Igor, St. Petersburg. Bought a 2004 Honda CR-V and still drive it. Reliable car pampers with its comfort. It has become like a native, all spare parts are original, they are changed according to the regulations, not earlier than the due date.
  • A car with a two-liter engine and automatic, fuel consumption of 12 liters per 100 km.
Alexey, Dnepropetrovsk. Praise the CR-V for good dynamics, for a crossover, the car drives briskly and handles well. Probably all thanks elastic suspension, which is not very comfortable for our roads. I have a version with a 2.0 engine and an automatic, it consumes no more than 12 liters per 100 km.

Engine 2.4

  • Igor, Murmansk. A typical urban crossover, for show off, let's say so. He doesn’t really know how to drive off-road, although there is an all-wheel drive - a contribution to improving handling, it is just very important for the city, like an automatic transmission. All this is available. The average consumption of gasoline per 100 km reaches 12-13 liters per 100 km.
  • Yuri, Krasnoyarsk. Good car, Japanese quality. Been dreaming of this for a long time. Consumes 12 liters in the city - with a 2.4 engine and automatic transmission.
  • Maxim, Moscow region. I bought a Honda CR-V in the top-end configuration, with a 2.4-liter engine, all-wheel drive and automatic. Full stuffing so to speak, fuel consumption is about 13-14 liters per hundred kilometers. Accelerates quickly and brakes efficiently, the car is designed to give pleasure from the ride. It handles well and rides smoothly - a perfect balance between handling and comfort. Children like it, by the way they sit in the back, in their child seats. And my wife and I sit in front, and from time to time we replace each other to steer - this often happens on a long journey, especially under the scorching sun. But in these conditions, an effective air conditioner saves. And now we turn on the stove, it works quite noisily, but it heats up in all directions.
  • Glory, Irkutsk. I liked the car, this Honda CR-V is still able to give odds to many competitors. I have a car with a 2.4 engine, fuel consumption is 12-14 liters, depending on the pace of driving. Worth an automatic transmission.
  • Vladimir, Petropavlovsk. I took a supported crossover with a 2.4-liter engine and automatic transmission. Fully loaded with 100,000 miles on it. The car is in good condition, a couple of stocks to remake and you can pile on. The motor is powerful, produces 160 horsepower. This is enough for aspirated, acceleration to the first hundred in just 9.5 seconds according to the passport.

Generation 3

Engine 2.0

  • Boris, Nizhny Novgorod region. My Honda CR-V is a 2008 model year and now has 100,000 miles on it. I go and do not complain, a very comfortable car. With gambling control. 2 liter engine and manual transmission more than enough. The average fuel consumption is 12 liters per hundred. This is in the urban cycle, and on the highway it turns out no more than 10 liters. I think I did right choice. I'm talking about the gearbox, otherwise the machine would probably work with delays. A friend has a similar car with the same engine and automatic, but of the previous generation. His machine just works with delays, so he was afraid to take it. Inside the Honda CR-V is a spacious and high-quality interior, with a roomy and convertible trunk. You can quickly fold the seats, and you get a flat floor, you can put long lengths.
  • Elena, Tambov. Satisfied with the car, comfortable and reliable car. With a 2 liter engine, 150 horsepower. Automatic transmission, it works flawlessly. The gearbox and the motor are perfectly coordinated, there is no misunderstanding between them, in the sense there are no delays. Perhaps due to this, such a low consumption is about 11-12 liters per hundred in the urban cycle, and this is even with the most dynamic driving. In general, the machine pleased.
  • Alexander, Perm. I have a car in 2009, now the mileage is 85 thousand km. I drive a car all year round, I do without a garage. The car is reliable, I serve only in the service. Fuel consumption is 10-12 liters per 100 km. Version with motor 2.0 and manual gearbox.
  • Vlad, Yekaterinoslavl. A car for all occasions, with such an engine - a 150-horsepower two-liter gasoline engine. It consumes only 12 liters per hundred, besides there is also HBO. The main expenses are only for maintenance.
  • Nikita, Rostov. Honda CR-V 2010 release, with a two-liter engine and automatic transmission. In fact, my wife chose the car for me, we went with her to a car dealership. I wanted to take the mechanics, but she generally insisted, well, what can you do. She just passed her license at that time, and now she often drives my Honda. But even if, I don’t feel sorry for anything for my woman. I myself like the car too, the machine turned out to be moderately agile, and the accelerating dynamics are very smooth, and even gear changes are almost imperceptible. Fuel consumption is 12 liters per hundred.

Engine 2.4

  • Alexey, Tomsk. The wheelbarrow was presented for a birthday - supported, with a mileage of 99 thousand km. The gift pleased me right for life, I have long dreamed of such. That's my dream come true. Moreover, this is my first car. And after such a car, I'm unlikely to need any kind of Volga and Tazy. So tremble rogue! I am young and handsome, at this age it is useful to show off, and I am so tuned in to optimism. In general, I am a purposeful person, and the Honda CR-V is just for me. Dynamic and comfortable car. My student friends now have a free taxi, I bring them up with pleasure. You need to do good to people, and then they will repay you. I have a car with a 2.4-liter engine and automatic transmission, fuel consumption is 12-13 liters per 100 km.
  • Dmitry, Pyatigorsk. It’s better not to go off-road with such a car - I checked it myself. Once went, and broke the front bumper. And in the city CR-V reveals all its advantages. With a 2.4 engine and automatic transmission, it consumes about 13 liters.
  • Anatoly, Sverdlovsk. Bought the car for daily trips around the city and out of town. It’s just that I have a job in another city, and it’s somehow stressful with transport. At first I planned to take something simpler - something like Solaris. But in the end I decided that the car should be universal. The choice fell on the Honda CR-V. This car combines a passenger car and an SUV, and this is Japanese-style reliable. In what also was convinced during operation. Wheelbarrow never fails me. With a 2.4 engine and a manual gearbox, fuel consumption is 12 liters / 100 km.
  • Vasily, Irkutsk. The Honda CR-V is now my only car and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Very attached to him, praise the car for its reliability and comfort. Fuel consumption comes out from 10 to 13 liters, depending on the city or highway. Worth an automatic box.
  • Anna, Vorkuta. I got the car from my brother, and he moved to the Land Cruiser. Moved to another level so to speak. Honda impressed me in every way. A very economical car, despite the old 2.4-liter aspirated. Worth automatic transmission. In the city it consumes about 12-14 liters per 100 km.

Generation 4

Engine 2.0

  • Yaroslav, Pyatigorsk. The car turned out to be quite reliable, even against the background of my former Toyota RAV4. Although the car is more expensive to maintain, it is more fun to drive. Old Toyota can't match my Honda. CR-V with a 2.0 engine and manual transmission eats an average of 12 liters per 100 km.
  • Alexander, Kyiv. I have a 2014 Honda CR-V, bought new in Kyiv. For three years, I drove 100 thousand, and for this anniversary figure I decided to share my impressions of the car. This is a typical crossover for every day, it is easy with it in the city and on the highway. The CR-V can handle light off-road, but nothing more. Universal car, has all the options, plus an automatic transmission. A 150-horsepower 2-liter engine is enough in the city. The engine itself has been tested by time, it has been installed on many Honda generations CR-V. That is why I took it with such an engine. With it, the consumption is 10-12 liters. The gearbox shifts gears quickly, but in extreme cases I put the selector in manual mode.
  • Sergey, Lipetsk. I am a tourist by profession, and I needed a universal car. Before Honda, I had a Volga one hundred and fifth, well, I won’t go on it to Europe or somewhere else far abroad. Moreover, there are no spare parts for it. So I had to take a foreign car. I chose the top version with a two-liter engine with a capacity of 150 forces. With him and the automatic transmission, the flow rate on the highway does not exceed 10 liters, and this is very good compared to my former Volga. In general, I did not regret the choice. And until I part with my Volga, I drive it around my hometown.
  • Stanislav, Perm region. Chose between Toyota RAV-4 and Honda CR-V. Tested both machines. I liked the way the Honda handled more, so I ended up buying it. With a two-liter engine that produces 150 forces. Automatic transmission, fuel consumption 10-12 liters. I liked the car, I made the right choice, my relatives support me.
  • Oleg, Dnepropetrovsk. Honda CR-V is a reliable car for all occasions. You just need to service it in a timely manner, and preferably in a company service. And no collective farm, all spare parts are original. Only in this case Honda will please. My version is equipped with a 2.0 engine and mechanics, consumes up to 12 liters per 100 km.

Engine 2.4

  • Konstantin, Kaliningrad. Comfortable and reliable SUV, what else is needed for life. Moreover, I have the top version, with all the options. The 2.4 engine for 190 forces consumes 12-14 liters of gasoline, depending on the pace of driving. Worth automatic transmission.
  • Vladimir, Leningrad region. This car seems to be made for me. Meets all my needs. Probably because I'm an extrovert. That is why I took the most powerful 2.4-liter version with automatic transmission. 190 forces is enough, with them the car consumes 12-13 liters.
  • Vladimir, St. Petersburg. Bought a car for his beloved wife. She really wanted him, she was trembling. We went to a car dealership, she messed up there, scared away all the customers. This is from joy, because for our sake they found a suitable package in stock. They took it on the day of placing the order, the wife tried. We chose the version with a 2.4-liter engine and automatic transmission. It's almost top of the range. The car is practical and family friendly, rides very softly and at the same time it is well controlled. The reliability of the car is at a high level, you don’t need to make anything yourself, here is my Volga, as they say in the past. Fuel consumption with an automatic is 13 liters in the urban cycle, and no more than 10 liters comes out of the city.
  • Igor, Donetsk. I took the car with all the options and the most powerful engine. Its working volume is 2.4 liters, and the power is about 190 horses. The car is comfortable and dynamic. Acceleration to the first hundred in just 10 seconds. Fuel consumption 12-13 liters with automatic transmission. The car is fine, for the city and for the highway just what I have been looking for for a long time.
  • Svetlana, Krasnoyarsk. I have a Honda CR-V with a 2.4-liter engine with 190 horsepower. This gasoline unit, which turned out to be very economical in the city, I'm not talking about the highway. I calculated, and the average consumption was at the level of 11 liters. Very worthy for such a rather big car.

Generation 5

Engine 2.0

  • Vladimir, Krasnodar. The car is beautiful, no doubt. And maybe he knows something off-road. But still, I feel sorry for the car, because it is really beautiful. It is a pity that I can not use my purchase to the fullest extent. I drive only in the city and on the highway, fuel consumption with a 2.0 engine and a robot is an acceptable 11 liters.
  • Ekaterina, Arkhangelsk. With the Honda CR-V, I want to live and live again. The car gives me so much energy that I have many unattainable goals that are not enough to reach in my life. And this is very good, but there is something to strive for. My Honda CR-V is equipped with a CVT and a two-liter engine, with this arsenal it turns out 12 liters per hundred.
  • Boris, Stavropol Territory. Bought a Honda CR-V in 2016. Too bad for Russian market a version with a 1.5-liter engine with a capacity of 190 forces is not provided. This is a great motor, judging by the reviews of my friends from Europe. Ordering from there would have cost me a fortune, in the end I had to take a version with a proven two-liter engine. I have a version with a CVT and all-wheel drive, with such equipment, fuel consumption in the city reaches about 9 liters. Very worthy for such an old engine, and I somehow began to forget about that 1.5-liter turbo engine. It turns out that everything is pretty good, the crossover drives dynamically and brakes confidently. Acceleration to hundreds in 10-11 seconds. Machine until satisfied, let's see what happens next.
  • Nikolay, Odessa. I have a Honda CR-V with a 2.0 engine and automatic transmission. The engine produces 150 forces, this is the standard for this class. The unit is reliable, and as far as I know, it was installed on previous generations of CR-V. With it, the consumption is stable at 12 liters per 100 km.
  • Marina, Kazan. I planned to take a used CR-V at a Honda dealership, but they made me a great offer for a fifth-generation CR-V, that is, new car. I could not refuse, there is a loan for very favorable conditions. The purchase was satisfied, the car is worth the money. With a 2.0 engine and a CVT, there is all-wheel drive and all the options. The car consumes about 9 liters per hundred.

Engine 2.4

  • Ilya, Belgorod. With this car, it seems that there are no obstacles in my way - it is so dynamic and comfortable. Well, everything is clear, this is the same top-end version, which, with a displacement of 2.4, produces about 180 forces. The dynamics of the naturally aspirated engine are more than enough for city driving. And on the track, the CR-V is also not a miss. In the conditions of our eternal traffic jams, the consumption is 14 liters per 100 km, no matter how much I would like less.
  • Mikhail, Moscow. This is the most luxurious car I have ever owned. Honda CR-V of the new generation, in the top configuration with a 190 horsepower engine and robotic box. I don't regret that I overpaid for additional options in the form of climate control, full power accessories, a sunroof and exclusive rims. The car was appreciated by all members of my family, so to speak from my ancestors to descendants. Of course, my wife is delighted with my choice. Until recently, I thought that I would take a Toyota. I am generally predisposed to the Japanese, and mainly to this brand. We just had a Corolla before. But I decided to be original and surprise my family. The average fuel consumption in the urban cycle is about 12-14 liters per 100 km.
  • Dmitry, Kyiv. I bought a new CR-V for space money, but the car is worth it. This is Honda, the epitome of sport and reliability. I just passed on the rights, and decided for myself - you need to take only Japanese cars, so as not to spoil the mood. My CR-V consumes a maximum of 15 liters of gasoline, I like to drive fast.
  • Igor, Moscow region. I use this crossover in a taxi. I even repainted it yellow so that everyone would turn around and notice only me against the background of all these Solaris. Bought a car when there was a family. Divorced, and it was necessary to do something - to release stress. So he went to the taxi drivers, and did not regret it. Honda consumes an average of 12 liters with a 2.4 engine and a RCP box.
  • Margarita, Leningrad region. The Honda CR-V is a standing SUV. It is an SUV, and I am not afraid to rape him where he is supposed to. The car must be used for its intended purpose, and in the city / on the highway - this also goes without saying. But I'm the kind of person who likes to experiment. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. In general, for now I’m driving along country roads - you need to start small. The car is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine and automatic, with this tandem the consumption is about 13 liters.

1 - flimsy plastic on the doors, when you close the door, the plastic vibrates strongly and is pulled towards the applied force. 2 - not comfortable chairs, short, weak lateral support, the leather is rubbed at the joints after two years (the dealer resolved the warranty issue, replaced the covers, in fact it is not genuine leather) 3 - steering wheel, for versions of the American assembly with a 2.4 engine, adjustment steering wheel height only. on departure NO 4 - crunch when starting the engine in cold period of the year! according to dealers, this is not a defect, but a feature, and the sound does not carry anything terrible, METAL CRUNCH FROM THE MOTOR! AMENDMENT dated 10/31/2017, the timing gear was still ordered under warranty. UPDATE as of 12/02/2017, the crunch appeared again on a weakly charged battery. The gear jamb is obvious, or it is not of high quality or a design flaw. Brand Honda ate to the limit. 5 - the first car where I see the deformation of the door arches when the glass is closed, that is, the glass closes and the upper arch on the door slightly changes its shape with each closing. Check. this is really weird. At the same time, I did not notice cracks, probably a feature. 6 - Very poor equipment. There are no tire pressure sensors. mediocre display, no backlight in the glove compartment, no parking sensors (this is all I describe the equipment of the American assembly 2.4 motor) no headlight washer, no xenon, no ordinary LED lamps everywhere. (excluding daytime running lights) 7 - many consider this a disadvantage. I personally don't. but I will write anyway. Oak torpedo. I'm not such an esthete who touches his car every time he gets into the car. It is important for me that everything looks ergonomically 8 - stiff suspension 9 - expensive original spare parts (but at the same time reliable) The car, in terms of equipment and everything else, pulls for a year like 2006 but not like a modern one. 10 - probably a nitpick about the box, jerks, jerks, it happens. stupid old automatic transmission dated 10/31/2017 was sentenced to be replaced! ! ! (I hope that this problem is mostly an exception to the rule) 11 - blurry control, no concentration, sluggish brakes. Matter of habit. (Update as of 06/13/2018 - The problem of sluggish brakes is solved by changing to another manufacturer. I chose Nibk. It has become much better! Satisfied.) 12 - SOUND. despite the many speakers and subwoofer, the sound is mediocre at 4 with two minuses. 13 - voice control as in the last century. ADDITION OF REVIEW dated 10/31/2017 A little disappointed with the HONDA brand! As a result, the timing gear is changed under warranty, it began to crack at +10, for this I had to leave the car in the service for a day. Buzzing from the box, they sentenced some kind of bearing, they said to replace the entire automatic transmission assembly with a new one, wait a month, out of stock. A pin was broken off at the tire fitting. If you change it according to the method that HONDA intended, you need to remove the hub, maintenance of this unit indiscriminately is not provided. After these adventures, I am convinced of the worldwide conspiracy of automakers)))) dated 12/02/2017 PS: I am waiting for everything else to start to crumble. Reliability Honda on 4 with a minus. Maybe in further operation it will show itself with positive side while I'm watching. for a little over 2 years they replaced it under warranty: one drive was crooked (because of this, at each MOT I asked for a collapse), covers ala leather (worn at the joints), timing gear, automatic transmission, trunk gas stops, tension roller generator belt. For my money I changed the pads, brake discs, led the front, battery, alternator belt. stretched out for 30,000 runs I promise to finish the review! And so))) 02/18/2018 Was at the next MOT again ordered a gas distribution gear, again sound, again crackling. I want to note the work of the servicemen, I was pleasantly pleased with the service. The guys are on the side of the consumer, they also offered to order the front headlights under warranty (clouded), did not refuse.)) Well, something like that. In the snowfall, the car showed itself quite well, there were no jams, it was not necessary to push. Of the minuses, the protection is located well, very low. And so in general, all the rules. 02/23/2018 replaced the gear and headlights under warranty. Headlights are really not a bad bonus! They shine better, the line has become clear, Satisfied. I didn't hear a crunch in three days. Thanks to AoyamaMotors at Volgogradka. I recommend. 03/07/2018 replaced steering rack assembled under warranty, judging by the sound, the bushings were broken. I want to note the reliability of the stabilization struts, judging by the fact that the rail was damaged, the roads were not the best. However, there are no complaints about the suspension. For example, on a Mazda, I changed the rack every 20-25 thousand mileage, consumables. Very loyal dealer. They make repairs with no questions asked. Mileage 75,000 06/13/2018 So my car warranty has ended. Flying 85,000 pah three times, normal. The timing gear sometimes tries to make something incomprehensible, but this is a subtle sound that only I hear very rarely.)) I don’t want to give a general assessment of the car yet. I plan to continue using it. Definitely this is not without a problem machine. And you can't give it a 5 star rating. Described everything as it is. All in essence.

Most CR-Vs are all wheel drive. Maybe that's not bad, but it means they have a bevel gear, dual-pump clutch and cardan shaft. Honda's all-wheel drive feature is that it is completely useless if there is even the slightest chance of "burrowing" in mud, snow or sand. This is due to the original all-wheel drive connection scheme. On front-wheel drive cars from the USA, these nodes are not, so there are no hassles associated with them, but there are very few such cars.

In addition to the clutch itself, everything is standard here: a simple gearbox in front, a simple gearbox in the back. They are quite reliable, but the clutch has its own characteristics.

Oil is pumped through the chamber with the clutch package by two pumps, front and rear. One is driven from the driveshaft, and the second - from the wheels of the rear axle. With the coordinated operation of the pumps, which means approximately equal shaft speeds, the clutches do not compress, and the car drives on a front-wheel drive.

When a difference in speed appears, the second pump does not have time to pump out the oil, the pressure in the chamber rises and closes the clutches, and it closes them well, it can transfer all the moment to the rear axle: center differential not here. Engagement is very hard, so the system is set up with a good margin of engagement to avoid frequent engagement of the clutches.

This system performs well on hard dry roads, on stony ground and similar surfaces. But in our "standard" mud it doesn't work at all. In addition, the differential at the rear allows a large difference in speed, so it is difficult to accurately predict the moment the clutch will actuate. It turns out that connecting the clutch in slippery long turns can be fatal. And it’s not for nothing that the car was equipped with a non-switchable ESP after restyling in 2005, without it it turned out to be very dangerous in the winter.

Fans may be offended, but believe me, it’s much more reliable to turn off the clutch altogether, especially since the driveshaft is rather capricious, and extra savings won’t hurt at all.

I have experienced driving on slippery roads in a second generation CR-V and can say that this type of four-wheel drive without proper training is very dangerous. With him, you need to be constantly ready for the fact that rear axle suddenly drag the car into a skid, and abruptly, without warning. It is enough to add a little traction to correct the impending skid, and the situation can develop in the most unpredictable way. Without special skills and a subtle “sense of clutch travel reserve”, this feature is unlikely to be used. In general, it is not in vain that this system was abandoned even in the markets of those countries where there is almost no snow.

FROM mechanical boxes the gears aren't much of a hassle, they're reliable, just like Honda designs are supposed to be. There is no need to be afraid of either the five-steps or the six-speed manual transmissions that appeared after the restyling. But with "automatic" things are not so simple.

I have already done a separate article on . Their feature in the form of a freewheel in the second gear turned out to be good for cars, allowing them to simplify the design and speed up shifts. In any case, until the widespread introduction electronic systems feedback control.

On an SUV, this feature of the “machine” turned out to be a real Trojan horse. When trying to "rock" the car, drivers are almost guaranteed to kill the automatic transmission. But if you do not do this, then the box can stretch for a long time. Its design is strong, although it is distinguished by excessive originality and a decent mass. But as long as there is pressure, she will drive at least one of the gears.

Several types of similar boxes were installed on the CR-V: MKZA, MOMA, MRVA, M 4TA, GPLA and some others. The main problems of these boxes are associated with a breakdown of the freewheel of the second gear, and after a run of 200-300 thousand kilometers, solenoids and bearings often fail.

The clutches here are almost eternal, and if you do not miss the oil level, they will last up to 300-350 thousand kilometers. True, individual selection gear ratios The gear box has one feature: the fourth gear is loaded a little more, and the wear of its clutches can be noticeable. This can be especially expected from cars from Germany and from fans of “grabbing” along the highway with a significant excess of speed.

Later versions of shaft automatic transmissions were already seriously losing to more modern designs of "planetaries" in terms of switching speed, so the character of cars with automatic transmissions is very "Nordic", even american cars with a 2.4 liter engine.

A newer five-speed automatic transmission of the MCTA series or similar (MKYA, MZKA, MZHA, MZJA) does not give a gain in dynamics. But the car becomes more economical, and the gear changes here are smoother due to the close gear ratios. But this automatic transmission is noticeably more difficult to maintain, primarily due to less unification of the design and due to “childhood diseases”.

With runs of more than 150 thousand, you need to be ready for the first repairs. For example, to the replacement of the overrunning clutch of the second gear, which breaks down quite early, especially for lovers of intense acceleration.

The third gear rear drum is damaged, slippage can lead to damage to the friction clutches, and the ingress of breakdown products into the box is a lot of trouble.

The resource of linear solenoids is also relatively small, with the same 150 thousand mileage, the pressure is already not very stable. Oil pressure sensors can also fail. These breakdowns lead to the appearance of shocks during switching and overloading the mechanical part of the automatic transmission. Other breakdowns of the hydraulic unit are also possible.

But I note that the mileage of cars with this automatic transmission is still less than with the “four-speed”, therefore, there are also fewer breakdowns in general.

Engines

Motors are traditionally Honda's strong point. In this case, the new family of the K series became the main engines for the model. European and Japanese cars were equipped with only two-liter K 20A 4, and the 2.4-liter version (K 24A 1) was also installed on the "Americans". The Europeans also relied on the N 22A 2 diesel engine with a volume of 2.2 liters, but due to its rarity and unpopularity, there is little data on it.

You can praise the motors for a long time, but I will limit myself to stating a fact. They are made strong, able to work at low oil pressure, are designed for SAE 20, but if necessary, they tolerate SAE 60 oils perfectly. Such oils are just recommended for racing conditions.

The engines have a large margin for boosting, and factory options “for 200 forces” are quite affordable.

CR-V engine options have a relatively low compression ratio of 9.8 and low power, even a volumetric 2.4 liter. Of course, they have a phase control system I -VTEC. But there are no hydraulic lifters, the gaps need to be adjusted every 40-50 thousand km.

In the photo: Under the hood of the Honda CR-V 4WD "2001–04

The timing chain resource is about 200 thousand kilometers. True, the phase regulator has to be changed more often, which somewhat devalues the mileage of the hardware as a whole.

The resource of the piston group, with careful movement, is capable of exceeding a serious mark of 300 thousand kilometers. In practice, forced options do not last so long, and even a weak K20A4 in an active driver begins to eat up oil with a run of about a hundred thousand due to wear of the rings.

Unfortunately, even high working speeds (the dimension of the K20 is 86x 86 mm) are not in vain. Here it is easy to meet the wear of the piston, rings, liners and cylinder.

However, for careful drivers with runs far over 300 thousand km, the engine was often opened only for timing revision, phase shifter replacement, valve adjustment and minor crankcase cleaning work. And, of course, to replace the exhaust camshaft. Humble yourself, this is a consumable that quickly fails due to the operation of the phase control system. Remember Alfa Romeo : that 's right .

Considering high revs, wear of the piston group and the age of motors in general, oil leaks are a characteristic misfortune. Usually, the front crankshaft oil seal is the first to surrender, which, with a certain degree of optimism, can be called luck: it would be more difficult to change the rear one.

Throttle pollution, floating speeds, intake leaks are also constant companions of the killed crankcase ventilation system and wear of the piston group. You also need to get used to the current VTEC valve. The reason most often lies in the rubber seals, which need to be changed regularly.

The rubber bands of the crankcase ventilation system are also not eternal, most often the pipes are torn at the junction of rubber and plastic parts.

The resource of the catalyst can really upset. For those who like to turn the engine, especially with an unsuccessful choice of oil, the catalyst dies even before hundreds of thousands of mileage. In most cases, the catalyst still lives up to 150 thousand kilometers, and much less often - up to 200 thousand. A considerable "merit" of such a short life is winter launches and features of mixture formation of Japanese engines in the winter. In any case, specimens from the USA, with runs far beyond 200 thousand miles, may never have a seriously repaired engine and an original catalyst with no traces of replacement.

Cars produced before 2003 could have problems with the cooling system associated with local overheating of the fourth cylinder. The motors were changed as part of a recall campaign, and the cooling system was redesigned, so now the chances of meeting a motor with such a defect are minimal.

The K24A1 engines of American cars are a very good choice: there is noticeably more thrust, which is felt by the dynamics at low speeds. Their fuel consumption is lower, and the resource of the piston group is higher than that of other engines.

And a little more about oil

Due to the relevance of the problem, I will pay a little attention to the issue of oil viscosity.

Honda engines were among the first designed for low-viscosity SAE 20 oils. They work great with them, but this does not mean at all that oils with a different viscosity cannot be poured into them.

Pictured: Honda CR-V "2001–05

There is a popular belief that a viscous oil, even SAE 40, can ruin an engine. In practice, of course, this cannot be the case. Never.

On an unheated engine, the viscosity of the oil is much higher than the “passport”, and far beyond the parameters of SAE 60. When driving on the highway, the viscosity of SAE 20 oil at 80 degrees in the crankcase will be several times higher than SAE 60 oils at 120 degrees. And such modes of movement of the motor can be predominant, and it is quite designed for them.

At high temperatures and loads, it is expressly recommended to use a more viscous oil than the minimum prescribed, this will provide the motor with better protection. Of the negative consequences, only the worst drain of oil from oil scraper ring, increased chances of ring coking due to an abundance of oil, slightly more oil burn after reaching the maximum reasonable film thickness and a change in the parameters of the phase control system.

The use of oils with a slightly higher viscosity, such as SAE 30, is generally recommended even on new engines used for long periods of driving through traffic jams in conditions high temperature air and loaded. Rising piston temperature, squeezing gaskets and other “horror stories” are unscience fiction. In life, the use of a more viscous oil can only be fraught with a loss of insignificant percentages of power and, probably, increased oil waste through the piston group. The latter, by the way, can be perfectly compensated by smaller leaks and losses through crankcase ventilation.

Summary

Very good cars turned out, these Honda CR -V! But, perhaps, all-wheel drive is only to their detriment, because this crossover is actually a Honda Od ussey in an off-road outfit. Be that as it may, the CR -V has a very high-quality body, an interesting, comfortable and quite durable interior. Let not the most "fancy", but not causing mortal anguish.

CR-V boasts good choice automatic transmission and very successful motors. And everything is very well done.

Yes, sometimes the repair and maintenance of this car is not cheap, but Honda positions itself as a manufacturer of cars that are slightly more expensive than average Japanese cars. And you will have to come to terms with this.

As, however, with minor flaws in suspension and comfort.

Pictured: Honda CR-V "2001–05

Can sometimes upset the availability of spare parts and their cost. But CR -V will not throw unsolvable problems, and those that exist cannot be classified as permanent or annoying. And the Honda CR -V is not in vain the status of mega-reliable: with careful operation, it causes even less trouble than the recognized leader Toyota. And I note that fan services and club service often become a good help when repairing or passing the next MOT: the car has been known in Russia for a long time.

In general, if you are not in the forest, but just “to get the jeep” and reliably, then CR -V is what you need.
