SEAT Altea XL, 2007

Bought the car quite by accident. Was available in the salon. What else did you want or had to wait, or came out more expensive. As a result, the car was satisfied during operation. And there is still no desire to change the SEAT Altea XL, although before that, usually, I didn’t keep one car for more than 2 years. I don’t get hung up on one brand, there were different ones: Japanese, German, and “French”. Fuel consumption still does not correspond to the passport data. In summer, the average is about 7, in winter 9. If desired, and slowly on the track, you can meet 5.5. During the run, there were no expenses (except for maintenance), although I am not a careful owner: I have to carry various pieces of iron and carry a trailer. Every spring I give it to cleaning and polishing, and the SEAT Altea XL is like new before the summer. I changed the seat heating under warranty, the passenger one burned out immediately after the warranty expired, I still haven’t changed it - I don’t go there myself. I would like more speakers, but what to expect from 105 strong diesel. Although I like the fact that with the loading of the machine, the dynamics do not deteriorate much noticeably. I really like the stability of the SEAT Altea XL on the track and cornering - it stands on the road like a glove, the feeling of the car is perfect, it is controlled nicely. I did not notice the difference between the electric power steering and the hydraulics. Sailing from oncoming cars is not felt. Rut is not afraid. The payback for this is a low landing and a rather stiff suspension, although it does not cause discomfort. I drove 1200 km in one sitting, there was no particular fatigue. The red backlight does not irritate at night; turning it down or turning it off does not cause any desire. The car is well suited for every day, and for a family vacation.

Advantages : capacity. Stability on the road. The design is not the same for everyone. Reliability. Clear checkpoint.

Flaws : wide pillars in front. The front panel plastic scratches easily. Rear glass instantly dirty.

SEAT Altea XL, 2007

This car: Seat Altea XL 1.6 manual transmission 2007, bought in April 2007, drove 9 thousand, I can’t say anything definite. Sometimes like it, sometimes not. Many options: cruise control, ABS, traction control, heated seats, rain sensor, separate climate control, folding mirrors. The music in my opinion is very good, you can’t remember everything at once. Now about the car - it “stupidly” during acceleration, especially in 2nd gear, and when the climate control is on, it doesn’t drive like that at all, only at speed it’s imperceptible. When overtaking on the highway, there are not enough “horses”, there are only 102 of them. Every year I go to Russia, to the village of SEAT Altea XL pleased me at speed along the highway and on fishing trips, it holds the road amazingly, there is practically no roll on corners, it clings to the road with everyone wheels, the track passes without throws to the side. At 150 km / h speed is not felt at all. The trunk is very roomy, there is plenty of room in the cabin, there is a lot of legroom in the back. But the sound insulation is poor, at speed the noise of the wheels is very clearly audible, but not annoying. The engine noise of the SEAT Altea XL is almost inaudible. The average consumption from buying a car is 8.5 liters per 100 km, in the city from 8-10.5 liters, in the morning and without heavy traffic I drive 12 km in 20 minutes and the consumption is 8 liters, but in traffic jams all 10 - 11 liters. On the highway, when speeding up, the consumption is large (more than in the Ford Scorpio with 120 horses). At 140 km / h, the consumption is 9 - 10 liters. And at 90 - 120 km / h it is very economical. A very thin layer of varnish, a thin layer of paint. In general, I do not have a definite opinion about the SEAT Altea XL. The cabin is cozy.

Advantages : Holds the road well at speed. Roomy.

Flaws : poor soundproofing. Can't get to wipe the front wipers.

P throwing Russian market a year and a half ago, the Spanish Seat returned to us again, and even with an extended model range. We took on the test one of the largest models - Altea XL.

The marketers of the Russian dealer of Seat are very offended when their cars are compared with Volkswagen models or Skoda, and at every opportunity they remind you that the Spanish Seat belongs to the sports line of the VW concern, just like Audi and Lamborghini. Meanwhile the lineup Seat is still limited to only variations on the chassis of the Audi A3 / Volkswagen Golf V, but on the basis of the baby Volkswagen Polo, while for Audi it is just the beginning, not to mention Lamborghini.

In order to assess how justified the claims of the Spaniards to be related to Audi, and also what are the overall chances of SEAT in Russia, we conducted a test drive of the largest Seat - the Altea XL compact van. Only the all-terrain version of Altea 4 Freetrack with all-wheel drive and increased ground clearance.

To be honest, any mention of XL for me rather has a negative connotation - images of oversized young ladies and large cars immediately pop up in my head to compensate for the size of my own ego. However, I liked Altea XL even in the showroom. The embossed hood and sidewalls of the body distinguish the Seat from the gray car mass. Even in Europe, with its very diverse car fleet, Spanish cars always attract attention, especially if they are painted in their signature bright yellow color. The secret of success is in the spectacular design created by Walter de Silva, who Volkswagen concern poached from Alfa Romeo. Remember the Alfa 156 family and the Alfa 147 hatchback - it was de Silva who created them. First, Walter completely updated the model line of the avant-garde Spanish brand, and now he has begun to redesign the more conservative Audi, drawing TT, R8, A5 and the latest A4.

We also got the Altea XL in burgundy - very suitable for a large family car. Not too loud, but not boring either. And only banal rear lights give out a resemblance to German donors, and Volkswagen is Golf or Audi A3 - judge for yourself.

At first glance, the interior of the Seat looks even more interesting than that of the "Germans" - spectacular, slightly swollen lines that create a separate cockpit around the driver, reminiscent of BMW models or even Audi R8. But the quality of the plastic let us down - it is absolutely rigid on the entire front panel, although it looks very attractive, creating some illusion of carbon fiber. I like this interior, but it doesn’t fit well with the status of a “close relative of Audi”, and the price of the car obliges the manufacturer to be more serious about interior trim. After all, for $42,000 that dealers ask for a tested car with a set of additional options, it is quite possible to choose a well-equipped Audi A4 Avant station wagon or Volkwagen Touran with a similarly powerful engine and a comparable list of options.

Having taken the driver's seat in any of the Seats of the Lion / Toledo / Altea series, you immediately rest your eyes on the sporty bright red illumination of the parting panel. As it should be in a sports car, the central place is occupied by a tachometer, and to the right of it is a speedometer. Moreover, the arrows of both devices in the zero position look vertically down - another tribute to Italian design. The paddle shifters are overloaded in German: controls are hung on them on-board computer and cruise control. It is even less convenient to use a radio with a navigation function, which has not yet been adapted for Russia. Fortunately, the radio, as well as 17-inch wheels and cornering lights, - additional options, which you can refuse and significantly save. But I was pleasantly surprised by the range of adjustment of the driver's seat - it allows you to choose between a high bus seat or a low, sporty one. And both are very comfortable and do not create any problems on a long journey.

Compared to the regular Seat Altea, the XL version added 187 mm in length, but only at the expense of the rear overhang. The length of the wheelbase and, consequently, the space for rear passengers remained unchanged, and according to this parameter, Seat falls short of the promised Extra-Large. Here it is quite free for two, but without much scope, and the massive central tunnel will interfere with the legs of the third passenger. Recall that Altea XL can be all-wheel drive, then the FreeTrack prefix appears in its name.

Z ato trunk is really huge. Thanks to the sliding rear sofa, its volume varies from 532 to 635 liters, and if the rear sofa is folded, then up to 1604 liters of luggage can be transported. In the class of 5-seater compact vans, this is one of the best indicators. Theoretically, it would even be possible to place a third row of seats here, as is done in the Volkswagen Touran, but the roof shape of the Altea is not very suitable for those sitting in the gallery.

It turns out that the choice of XL is justified primarily for those buyers who are going to use Altea for summer cottages or long-distance travels with a lot of equipment - for urban needs, the more compact “just-Altea” is better suited - its interior is exactly the same, and parking will be more convenient.

On the road, Altea XL showed its best side - the high body listens to the steering wheel perfectly, and the electric power steering is completely close to ideal. In the parking lot, the steering wheel is absolutely weightless, and with increasing speed it is filled with reactive force. The suspension is well adapted to Russian roads- moderately rigid, perfectly absorbs body rolls, preventing either buildup or breakdowns. In this regard, the Seat really shows its similarity with the Audi A3, which, meanwhile, is not much different from the VW Golf ...

I am also familiar with the power unit - we tested it on the A3, and it is quite suitable for family needs, but sometimes the thoughtfulness of the “automatic”, which seems to get confused in its six gears, annoys sometimes. The transmission, tuned for economical driving, seeks to engage the last sixth gear as soon as possible, any attempt to accelerate causes a second's hesitation. This problem can be solved by activating sport mode, which helps a lot with city driving, but annoys with increased noise outside the city.

When returning the Altea XL to the Seat dealer's showroom, I would like to sincerely wish the sellers good luck. Altea XL with a base low-power 102-horsepower 1.6-liter engine costs $ 26,490, and for alloy wheels, climate control, rain and light sensors and a number of small options, you will have to pay another 1,500. The list of equipment will be quite sufficient, but here's the engine ... A more reasonable 150-horsepower version with a 2-liter engine and an "automatic" costs $34,990 already. And for daredevils, a 163-horsepower version of the 1.8 TFSI with a 6-speed “mechanics” is provided for $ 32,990. At such prices, it is still difficult to hope for a large-scale sale. Undoubtedly, there will be enthusiasts who will like the flamboyant design of Walter de Silva, but it is unlikely that there will be many of them. That is why Seat is already working on the possibility of revising prices downwards. If the car becomes cheaper by at least 2000-3000 dollars, it will be possible to talk about the emergence of a “people's Audi”, which will successfully occupy the niche of the “people's Volkswagen”, recently vacated by the significantly more expensive Skoda.

SEAT Altea 4 Fritrek

Year of issue: 2013

Engine: 2.0 (211 HP) Checkpoint: A6

I will not repeat myself, in all the reviews the refrain sounds: "the cart brings down everyone!" It really is. I put the firmware from the APR first stage, 265 mares, about 6 seconds from zero to 100 km / h. The dynamics have improved. I would call the Seat a "car provocateur", either they have already heard about her temper, or her appearance does not inspire authority, but the majority is trying to overtake, to assert themselves, or something. You have to, reluctantly, press your slippers on the floor - and everything immediately falls into place!

Seat Altea XL 1.9 TDI

Year of issue: 2013

Engine: 1.9

The car is just super, I don’t understand why there are no sales in Russia. In Austria, this is one of the best-selling cars, I bought it in November. The engine is not audible at all, I have a turbodiesel, start-stop system, the economy is impressive. Everything is done at a high professional level, plus the price is 4 thousand euros lower than Golf, all parts are from Golf. Before that, there was a Seat Altea, for 4.5 years I traveled 90,000 km, changed two bulbs on the rear lights and that's it. If you need a reliable Volkswagen - take it. I was not mistaken, this is all Volkswagen, only the Spanish assembly.

SEAT Altea FreeTrack 4

Year of issue: 2012

Engine: 2.0

Passed 8000 km. Explosive character, clearly holds the road, there are no complaints about the quality of the car. LCD monitor for passengers, rain sensor, talking computer are nice things in the car. Ground clearance is sufficient for the city and cottages. Minus one - a soft suspension, you have to drive carefully through speed bumps, as there is a tendency to sway. Comfort is peculiar, more like a sports car style. Peerless DSG box, many functions on the steering wheel are duplicated. The car is rated 9 out of 10. I recommend purchasing.

Using the automatic selection of tires and wheels for the car Seat Altea XL, you can avoid many problems related to their compatibility and compliance with the recommendations of car manufacturers.
