The exterior design of the JAC S5 crossover is represented by smooth lines that add dynamism to the exterior of the model. The Chinese company is considering this compact crossover as the most important car presented in Russia. Considering such high expectations of the manufacturer, it is worth getting acquainted with the level of technical equipment, price range, design, exterior and interior of the novelty. The manufacturer of the Jac C5 not only hopes that the crossover will be sold on the territory of the Russian Federation, the company believes that the new product can become a bestseller. First car brands JAC(Jianghuai Automobile Co), which the Russian buyer will be able to test will be the JAC J5 sedan.
As for the price of a new crossover, it will average 560,000 rubles. In the Russian automotive market, the JAC brand is known only to avid enthusiasts and is not particularly popular with Russian motorists. Nevertheless, in China, cars from this manufacturer are among the most sought after. Some models are exported to the countries of the Middle East, South America, Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Chinese government recommends starting exports to European countries.

The crossover is positioned as an intermediate option between the budget representatives of the Russian auto industry and expensive crossovers of European manufacturers. It is intended primarily for those who are not rich enough to buy European, Korean and Japanese stamps. The creators assure that for a reasonable price, the buyer will receive a car with technical equipment comparable to more expensive competitors. It is interesting to check how the manufacturer's words correspond to reality.
The crossover is equipped exclusively with front-wheel drive, and therefore it is difficult to recommend it for off-road travel. Nevertheless, the manufacturer gives indicators of the geometric cross-country ability of the body: the angle of entry is 26 °, the exit angle is 22 °. When fully equipped, the car weighs 1505 kg, and fuel tank can hold up to 55 liters of gasoline.
As for geometric dimensions, then the length of the body is 4430 mm, the width is 1840 mm, and the height is 1660 mm. The wheelbase is 2645 mm, with a driver in the cabin, the clearance is at least 200 mm, and if the car is fully loaded, it is 180 mm.
The Italian design bureau Pininfarina is probably not familiar with the term plagiarism. There is no other way to explain why the appearance of the Chinese crossover strongly resembles the Korean ix35, at first glance, it seems that the cars are almost identical in design and dimensions. Upon closer inspection, vyshtampovki, lines, details that still distinguish the Chinese crossover become noticeable.

Despite suspicions of plagiarism, it is worth noting that the design turned out to be successful, the car looks stylish and modern. The entire front part of the body looks courageous and purposeful, the headlights are placed high enough, the bumper is very large and looks solid. On its surface, the designers placed foglights (in special aerodynamic recesses) and a large air intake. Barely noticeable ribs on the sides of the body and stampings on the hood of the crossover organically complement the complex shape of the front fairing.
In general, the JAC S5 profile looks somewhat simpler than that of Korean crossover, although emulating the ix35's design is undeniable. The entire bottom of the body, starting from the rear bumper, door panels, sills and ending with the edge of the front bumper, is covered with a wide plastic protection. Already in the basic configuration, the manufacturer completes the car with light-alloy wheels of size 17, tires with a landing diameter of r17 profile 225/60 are used. The spare wheel is the usual dokatka on a steel disk.
The back of the car brings to mind another crossover - the German Audi Q5. Feed is practically copied from a representative of the German car industry. Attention is drawn to the specific shape parking lights, a straight line and stamping under them. The bumper is also very similar to the German donor, it is also equipped with horizontal reflectors.

The high level of security deserves special mention. According to the results of the C-NCAP crash test, the car earned 5 stars, which allowed the manufacturer to call it perhaps the safest among Chinese cars. Leadership in the issue of safety is achieved thanks to high-strength steel (in the production of a body, its share is over 80%) and computer modeling of deformable zones.
The Chinese crash test C-NCAP casts doubt on its fairness, its results quite often differ from the verdict of the European Euro NCAP. In China 5 stars C-NCAP results many cars receive, but this does not always reflect reality. As for the use of high-strength steel, in the body Volkswagen Passat B7 its share is about 80%, BMW 1 Series - 70%, Mazda CX-5 - 61% and Mazda 6 - 60%. In addition, eminent manufacturers use lightweight high-strength steel, which reduces the weight of the car. For example, the Hyundai ix35, with parameters almost identical to the JAC S5 crossover, weighs only 1380 kg, while the Chinese car weighs 1505 kg.
As for the interior trim, it leaves a feeling of sportiness and a certain futurism, is, in fact, an alloy of several styles. It is difficult to give a specific definition. The quality of the finish deserves special mention, judging by the photo, everything is done soundly. It seems that the dashboard just soars in the air, and there is simply no center console. Armchairs are made in a typical Chinese manner. The seats of the 1st and 2nd rows are quite comfortable, without lateral support. Both the driver and 4 passengers can comfortably accommodate in the cabin, although there is no excess of free space.

The manufacturer lures the buyer with rich equipment options. Already in the basic configuration, the car will most likely receive 2 trip computer screens (color and digital), multifunctional wheel, the ability to adjust the position of the steering column in height and depth, air conditioning, an intelligent audio system, power and heated mirrors, power windows on all doors, electrical system adjustment of the lumbar support of the 1st row seats, 6 airbags, ABS EBD systems.

Russian and Ukrainian buyers will be able to choose between versions with two engine options. The basic version of the car will be equipped with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder aspirated. The maximum power of such a solution will not exceed 136 hp, which will allow developing a torque of up to 190 Nm at speeds from 3000 to 4500 rpm. At the same time, the maximum speed of the car is 180 km / h, fuel consumption at a speed of 90 / km / h will be 7.1 liters, the manufacturer is silent about consumption at other speeds.

The crossover is one of its advantages. At the front, the designers used McPherson struts, and at the rear, a multi-link design. In this matter, almost all automakers use the same approach. All wheels use a disc brake system. ABS and EBD systems are used. So far, the steering wheel is equipped with a hydraulic booster, but in the future, the automaker does not exclude the possibility of using an electric booster.
For the Ukrainian and Russian markets, the car will be produced using the facilities of the Ukrainian automaker Bogdan. It was expected that mass production will be launched at the beginning of last winter. The first sales of the JAC S5 crossover were scheduled for the middle of this year.
On the sly, without loud announcements and press releases, on Russian market returned Chinese cars JAC - Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported this. It is interesting that they have been selling with us for many years, but something constantly did not stick with passenger cars. The first attempt with crossovers and minivans was made in 2007, but the business was quickly curtailed. JAC cars have been produced for several years at the SaryarkaAvtoProm plant in Kostanay, and S3 crossovers are made here in a full cycle with welding and body painting. And since Russia and Kazakhstan are part of a single customs area, these cars can be delivered to us duty-free.
The Chinese planned to take advantage of this advantage at the start of production in Kazakhstan, but deliveries began only recently: according to the Avtostat Info agency, eight JAC S3 and two S5 cars were registered with the traffic police in the first quarter of this year. For these two models Kazakhstan assembly Rosstandart issued Type Approvals vehicle(OTTS), but none of them is equipped with the ERA-GLONASS system. Both models can already be bought in Russia, although the geography of sales is still modest: there are cars in Yekaterinburg, and the Moscow dealer expects them “any day”.
JAC S3 is a Duster-sized SUV (4325 mm long) that has exclusively front-wheel drive, a rear semi-independent suspension and a non-alternative 1.5 petrol engine with a power of 105 hp. However, OTTS also announced a 1.6 engine for 109 “horses”.
The choice is a six-speed “mechanics” or a Punch variator with fixed gears, and the type of transmission is strictly tied to the equipment. In the initial configuration, Luxury has two airbags, ESP, air conditioning, an audio system and alloy wheels, and the Intelligent version with a CVT provides a “leather” interior, media system, climate control and cruise control. Prices - from 750 to 840 thousand rubles.
More large crossover JAC S5 shamelessly copied from Hyundai models ix35, is 4475 mm long and also has only front-wheel drive, although rear suspension independent. Previously, these cars were sold with two-liter aspirated, but now only versions with a turbo engine of the same volume that produces 177 hp are offered, although the OTTS prudently indicates a tax-beneficial power of 150 hp. The gearbox is only mechanical, and the price is from 920 thousand rubles.
In addition, the Chinese have already begun certification of two more models - a JAC T6 frame pickup truck and an electric vehicle. The production program of the SaryarkaAvtoProm plant includes both the T6 and the JAC iEV7S compact electric crossover with a 39 kWh battery - most likely, this particular model is being prepared for entering the Russian market. The start of sales is expected before the end of the year.
The Chinese auto industry has been producing cars of various classes for several years now. Not so long ago, the Chinese crossover JAC S5 also reached Russia. Manufacturers expect him good results on sales and consider this car very promising for promotion in the market: perhaps not in vain. The external forms of this car are similar to the German Audi and BMW. He looks pretty powerful. The body has a streamlined shape, which indicates good aerodynamics of the car. The front bumper is made quite massive and resembles a grin, which shows the grille. It is also large and massive, but does not protrude beyond the bumper. The bumper does not have sharp ends, but merges with the lines of the body and rear bumper. It seems that the car is a cast barrel, from which everything superfluous is cut off.
The optics on the car looks aggressive and stylish, it should be noted that it gives good light, does not mow to the side, but does not blind oncoming drivers either. The car illuminates the road well and does not interfere with others. At the rear, the crossover looks like a cross between a Hyundai crossover and an Audi SUV. In general, this is a pleasant-looking, stylish car that creates a double impression: on the one hand, it gives the impression of a powerful crossover, ready for off-road adventures, on the other, it has features sports car: probably due to the streamlined body shapes and small side windows at the rear.

The car seats are made of artificial leather in two colors, they look harmonious and stylish, moreover, they do not wear out as quickly as natural ones. The car has climate control and a sunroof. In Russia, this crossover can be found in two trim levels. Both cars have Gas engine, however, it has different power. One engine is atmospheric, it has 4 cylinders and a volume of 2 liters. Its power is 136 hp. A car with this engine can accelerate to 18-0 km / h, and fuel consumption is only 7 liters per hundred kilometers, which is quite low for this class of cars. Up to a hundred kilometers, the car accelerates in about 13 seconds.

The other engine is also gasoline, but it is turbocharged, so its power will be 176 hp. with the same volume of two liters. The fuel consumption of such an engine will be about 8 liters per hundred kilometers, and the maximum speed that the car can develop will be about 190 km / h.
The gearbox in both trim levels is mechanical and has five steps.
It is worth noting that the car has only front-wheel drive. rear axle not connected, and use the crossover as all-wheel drive SUV it is forbidden. Perhaps this is its only significant drawback.
But the suspension of the car can please the most demanding buyer. McPherson struts are installed on the front of the car, and there is a multi-link design at the rear. Both vehicle configurations will receive the same suspension, so it will not be possible to select it.
The JAC S5 brake system is also pleasing: it is disc on both axles. Also, both versions will receive ABS and EBD. It is worth noting that in the same price segment there are such cars as Renault Duster, the simplest equipment of which will cost about 400 thousand rubles, Chery India, another Chinese-made car, for which they ask for about 400 thousand rubles or more, Chevrolet Niva, the price of which is from 500 thousand rubles, the Chinese competitor Lifan X60 also falls here, the cost of which is in the same range as the JAC S5. Of the Russian cars, the Chinese can compete with the UAZ Hunter, Nissan Juke, the price of which starts from 600 thousand rubles, and Mitsubishi ASX, the price of which starts from 700 thousand.

The design of the car Jac C5 was developed by Pininfarina, a design bureau from Italy. But we don’t understand how the Italian designers managed to create the JAC S5 crossover with almost identical appearance and overall body dimensions as the Korean Hyundai ix35. At first glance, the cars seem to be twin brothers, but upon closer inspection, you still find the original lines, stampings and details on the body of the Chinese pseudo-crossover (the car is equipped exclusively with front-wheel drive).

Putting aside all thoughts of design plagiarism by Pininfarina employees when developing a design for the appearance of Chinese JAC S5 recognize that the car looks modern and stylish.

The complex lines of the front fairing are continued in the hood stampings and the barely perceptible ribs on the side surfaces of the body.
The profile of the Chinese is clearly created according to the patterns of the Hyundai ix35, but it looks somewhat simpler than that of the Korean crossover. The lower part of the body, starting from the edge of the front bumper, sills, door panels and ending with the rear bumper, is covered by a wide plastic protection.
Already in the base, the car is equipped with light-alloy wheels of size 17 with 225/60 R17 tires, but the usual spare tire is a dokatka on a steel disk.
Having reached the rear of the body, we understand that the feed is copied from another crossover, this time from the German Audi Q5. On the official site Chinese manufacturer indicated that new crossover S5 is almost the most safe car from the underworld. According to the results of the C-NCAP crash test, the car earned 5 stars. We cannot leave this information without comment.
C-NCAP is a Chinese crash test and its results are very different from Euro NCAP (European version). A huge number of cars in China receive the maximum rating of 5 points, but, alas, not all are deserved. Regarding the use of high strength steel: new Mazda 6 - 60%, at Mazda crossover CX-5 - 61%, BMW 1 Series - 70%, Volkswagen Passat B7 - 80%. It seems that these figures are enough, and Japanese and European manufacturers use lightweight high-strength steel. The JAC S5 crossover with front-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter engine pulls 1505 kg on the scales, and the Hyundai ix35, with front-wheel drive, an engine with the same volume and almost identical dimensions, weighs only 1380 kg.
The interior design of the JAC S5 combines several style trends: there is sportiness, futurism, and classic elegance, so it is difficult to characterize its design in a succinct and specific way. In general, judging by the photo, everything is done quite well and soundly. The center console is practically absent, and the dashboard seems to be floating in the air. The steering wheel is quite ordinary and unremarkable, but the stylish dashboard with two deep wells of the speedometer and tachometer, complemented by a color screen of the on-board computer, looks great.
The seats of the first and second rows are comfortable and traditionally flat for Chinese models, without lateral support. Places for the driver and four passengers without excess, but enough for a comfortable and cozy accommodation.
Equipment options promises to be rich. According to preliminary information, the basic configuration includes two trip computer screens (color graphic and digital), a multifunctional steering wheel with a leather braided rim and steering column adjustment in height and depth, electric adjustment of the lumbar support of the front seats, air conditioning, an advanced audio system (CD MP3 USB AUX iPod Bluetooth 6 speakers), heated electric mirrors, power windows on all doors, ABS EBD, 6 airbags.
In the most packaged version, artificial leather seat trim, a color touch screen multimedia system, EBA TCS HDC and HAC, an electric sunroof, climate control.
The trunk of the JAC S5 in the stowed state holds more than 500 liters, its volume can be increased almost three times to 1680 liters by folding the separate rear seat backs. It is characteristic that in this way a flat loading area is obtained, but, alas, with a large loading height.
Specifications: JAC S5 crossover will be offered to Ukrainian and Russian buyers in two equipment options petrol units. In the basic versions, a naturally aspirated engine with four cylinders and a volume of 2.0 liters is installed. This engine, equipped with a DOHC timing belt, can produce up to 136 horsepower and 190 Nm of torque at speeds from 3000 to 4500 rpm. The manufacturer claims top speed 180 km / h and indicates only fuel consumption at a speed of 90 km / h - about 7.1 liters.
The flagship engine of the company is a turbocharged 2.0-liter (176 hp 235 Nm) and is able to provide the crossover with a maximum speed of 190 mph. Fuel consumption on the highway will be about 7.7 liters.
Buyers will not have the opportunity to choose a gearbox that would pair with the JAC S5 engine; 5 manual transmissions will be installed in all configurations. For Russia, this is a big drawback, because automatic weapons are becoming more and more popular here. A significant disadvantage of the JAC S5 can be considered the fact that it is front-wheel drive and, most likely, it will remain so in the future, the company does not even plan to change anything yet. At the same time, almost all of their competitors offer this option, at least as an additional one.
The advantage of the crossover is its suspension: it has McPherson struts in front, and a multi-link design in the back. In principle, other manufacturers offer identical pendants. Concerning brake system, then it is disk, and on all wheels. Additionally, there are ABS and EBD. The steering wheel has a hydraulic booster, but the manufacturer is considering installing an electric power steering.
For Ukraine and Russia, the Chinese automaker plans to launch the production of JAC S5 on the basis of the Ukrainian company Bogdan. The conveyor will be launched, according to plans, in late autumn-early winter 2013, and the first car sales in our territory will start by mid-2014.
