The Japanese car Mitsubishi ASX is distinguished by a high level of reliability and optimal technical parameters. Despite this, all assigned maintenance tasks should be completed within the allotted time. Experienced drivers can independently cope with the replacement of the technical fluid, as a result of which it is not necessary to contact the service station.

Increased demand is noted for CVTs, which are installed not only on Japanese cars, but also on European and American ones. Gradually, mechanical and even automatic transmissions are becoming a thing of the past, giving their place to CVTs. Experts note that the main advantage of the new type of transmission is the optimal level of reliability and the highest possible efficiency. The main task is to understand how the oil is changed in the Mitsubishi ASX variator.

Attention! Scheduled maintenance is carried out in accordance with the recommendations of the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi. In the models that were the first and produced since 2010, the procedure had to be carried out regularly after reaching 90 thousand kilometers. However, subsequently, the figure still had to be reduced to 75 thousand kilometers, since it is this mileage that guarantees the successful use of Japanese car units.

CVTs use a special oil composition. The fluid is always designed taking into account the pressure in the installed gearboxes and the characteristics of the metal alloy used to manufacture the units. In addition, the oil must prevent potential slippage of the belt between the pulleys of the device.

The main goal is to choose the right oil for the Mitsubishi ACX. The characteristics of the fluid used must comply with the manufacturer's recommendations. CVT oil must be green. It is important to note that the choice of the manufacturer directly depends on the decision of the drivers, but only original products that meet certain tolerances are allowed to be used.

Some drivers believe that the technical fluid in the variators should not be changed at all. For this reason, they forget about their direct duties before a run of 150 and 200 thousand kilometers. It usually turns out that drivers make serious mistakes and yet taking care of regular oil changes is extremely important. In addition, operating conditions dictate their requirements, so you can not postpone the main maintenance obligations of the Japanese Mitsubishi ASX car for a long time.

The frequency of oil changes depends on the following factors:

  • ambient temperature;
  • the specifics of using the car and the possibility of using it as a tow hitch;
  • mode of operation of the vehicle.

Thus, it is necessary to pay special attention to the peculiarities of using a Japanese car in order to successfully solve the tasks set regarding the replacement of technical fluids.

Possibilities of the procedure

Experts note that changing the oil in the variator can be done in different ways. For this reason, existing needs must be taken into account.

Possible ways to replace the fluid:

  • Partial. In this case, it is planned to drain a certain amount of oil 4-5 times every 500 kilometers. The main task is to update the fluid.
  • One time replacement. An initial drain of the old oil is envisaged with a further filling of the same volume of fresh liquid. In fact, this method cannot be called effective, since a certain part of the oil still remains in the vehicle lines.

Advice! Many experts advise to carry out replacement according to the principle of double pouring. In this case, after complete draining, fill in new oil, turn on the engine for 5-10 minutes. After the allotted time, the liquid is drained again and re-filling is carried out. This double pouring guarantees complete disposal of the residual volume. It is necessary to prepare for the dismantling of the pan in order to clean the magnets from accumulated dirt and change the oil filter used. If necessary, at the final stage of the complex event, the mileage is reset by chipping.

What oil is better to fill

Many drivers are interested in what kind of oil to fill in Mitsubishi ACX is best. This interest is quite natural. Japanese cars are highly sensitive to the filling of any liquids, so the right choice of consumables becomes a truly important task.

Mitsubishi has managed to establish a successful production of its oil, which is of a high level of quality. The best option for pouring into ASX cars is the original Engine Oil. Original products correspond to the 5W30 classification, while being a synthetic consumable. Mitsubishi Engine Oil complies with international ILSAC standards as well as API.

When changing engine fluid, it is best to use about 4.2 liters of consumables. For this reason, for the procedure, it is recommended to take care of the presence of a 5-liter canister. It is advisable to ensure a small supply of engine oil on hand, as fluid may need to be topped up.

For Mitsubishi ASX, only high-quality engine oils are used. The main orientation is the official recommendations of the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi. If necessary, products are ordered through the official dealer center, which has well-established connections for deliveries.

Low pressure

Before changing the engine oil, all tasks should be carried out with great care. Often, problems associated with a loose oil filter or fluid leakage will lead to a decrease in pressure in the system. If low oil pressure is detected in the Mitsubishi ACX, a special sensor will signal an indicator of 0.4–0.5 atmospheres. However, an indicator exceeding 1.4–2.0 atmospheres will light up, indicating an error.

In adverse situations, you need to quickly orient yourself and make sure that there are no potential oil leaks on the crankcase of the car. The drain plug is installed only with a gasket, after which it is carefully twisted.

Replacement steps

According to what scheme is the oil change in the Mitsubishi ACX variator:

  1. Initially, the car is installed on a special device and the wheels must be blocked with wheel chocks. Security depends on this.
  2. To replace the fine oil filter, open the hood, remove the protective cover of the inlet pipe, which blocks access to the battery.
  3. Unscrew the battery fastening studs, remove the terminals and remove the unit.
  4. With a 12 mm wrench, remove the bolts on which the battery is installed.
  5. Then, with a 19 mm wrench, unscrew the drain plug. The technical fluid is drained from the variator. In this case, about 500 milliliters of oil is removed from the pan, which is carefully removed.
  6. The next step is to thoroughly clean the entire structure.
  7. With a 10 mm wrench, unscrew the four bolts to remove the oil exchanger.
  8. The fine filter is changed for the successful use of the system. It is not necessary to change the sealing gasket at the first replacement, but it becomes necessary to replace it afterwards.
  9. Then unscrew the bolts on which the variator housing is held. The main task is to flush or replace the coarse oil filter. If flushing is carried out, alcohol or petrol may be used.
  10. The next step is to change the crankcase gasket, which is pre-lubricated on both sides for maximum fit. Used engine oil is suitable for lubrication.
  11. A gasket is installed on the oil pan, connecting it to the variator. Then tighten the bolts, drain plug.
  12. The bay is carried out through a special hole in which the probe is installed. The volume of liquid is adjusted to the optimum level.
  13. After filling, the CVT OIL DEGRADATION LEVEL readings are reset. This requires mandatory pumping of excess pressure.
  14. At the last stage, the engine is started, holding the selector knob in each position for up to 5 seconds. After that, bring the engine oil level to the optimum volume.

Such a change of engine oil in a Mitsubishi ASX ensures that the successful operation of the vehicle is maintained.

Variators (CVT) of Japanese origin enjoy authority. CVT is installed on European and American cars. With each new car model, the CVT takes the place of classic manual transmissions and automatic transmissions.

Cars with a variator installed differ from a car with a manual shift box in a smoother ride and comfort, from an automatic version - in reliability and efficiency. According to manufacturers, the variator, subject to simple recommendations, can be used for a very long time. In addition, it does not require maintenance in such a volume as an automatic and manual gearbox. The durability of this unit directly depends on how carefully the driver will treat it.

According to the scheduled maintenance recommended by the manufacturers, the oil change in the ASX variator in the first models produced since 2010 should be carried out after reaching 90 thousand kilometers. A little later, this figure was reduced to 75 thousand km. CVTs use a special oil composition.

The fluid is formulated to take into account the increased pressure in the transmission and the special metal alloy used in the manufacture of internal CVT components. In addition, it should prevent slipping of the metal belt between the pulleys of the device.

The characteristics of the oil for pouring into the variator on the Mitsubishi ASX must comply with those recommended by the manufacturer. CVT oil is green. The choice of manufacturer may be at the discretion of the drivers, as long as it is original and meets the tolerances. You can use Mitsubishi Dia Queen CVT Fluid J1, NISSAN NS2, Mitasu CVT or Nissan CVT Fluid NS, etc.

There is an opinion that the oil in the variators does not require replacement at all. Before a run of 150,000 and 200,000 km, you can generally “not look” into the transmission. But even manufacturers cannot unequivocally answer when to change the oil in the variator, because the operating conditions of the car are different.

The frequency of oil changes depends on:

  • ambient temperature (minus or plus);
  • whether there is a load in the form of a towing device and how often it is used;
  • mode of operation of the car.

Changing the oil in the variator can be done in several ways:

  • partial replacement. In this case, a certain amount of liquid is drained 4-5 times after 500 km of run. In this case, the oil is updated.
  • a single replacement, when the old fluid is drained and the same amount of fresh oil is poured. This method is not effective, since a certain amount of old fluid remains in the lines.

Changing the oil in the Mitsubishi ASX variator is recommended according to the principle of double pouring. After the liquid is completely drained, new oil is poured, then it is necessary to turn on the engine for 5-10 minutes, after which it is again drained and refilled. It is also necessary to dismantle the pan to clean the magnets from dirt and change the filter. The final stage is resetting the mileage by chipping.

Self-changing oil in a Mitsubishi ASX variator

In order to replace the fluid in the ASX variator, you must:

In cars manufactured before 2014, the radiator was not installed on the CVTs. Structurally, this refinement allows to significantly increase the resource of the variator, which means to increase the service life of the oil. With a timely replacement of oil and filters of the variator, the transmission without repair guarantees a mileage of 300,000 km.

The Mitsubishi ASX car does not have a display indicating a malfunction or emergency operation of the CVT, so it is necessary to control the mileage and prevent untimely replacement of oil and filters.

For the proper operation of the transmission in Mitsubishi ASX, car owners are advised to check the oil level in a timely manner. Timely replacement will help to avoid engine breakdowns and extend the life of the vehicle.

When is it necessary to change the oil in the variator?

Mitsubishi ASX car manufacturers do not recommend changing the oil in the variator throughout the entire life of the vehicle. One auto mechanic does not agree with this statement and recommends that the replacement process be carried out every 50 thousand km.

Factors affecting the frequency of oil changes:

  1. Temperature indicators on the street (presence of plus or minus weather).
  2. The presence of a trailer and the frequency of its use.
  3. vehicle operating conditions.

The transmission fluid is replaced in two ways:

  1. Partial change. When choosing this method, the owner of the car must change the oil every 500 km.
  2. Single. This method involves draining the old fluid and filling in a new one in the same amount. A single replacement is considered ineffective.

What oil to use?

When choosing an oil fluid for replacement, the car owner should only choose between original oil options.

Oil options available:

  1. Mitsubishi Dia Queen CVT Fluid J1;
  2. NISSAN NS2;
  3. Mitasu CVT;
  4. Nissan CVT Fluid NS.

Mitsubishi ASX CVT oil is green in color and must meet the manufacturer's specifications.

Stages of work

When changing the oil in the Mitsubishi ASX variator with your own hands, it is recommended to use the double spill method. It includes the following steps:

  • discharge of waste material;
  • the bay of the new;
  • start the engine for 5-10 minutes and carry out the above steps again;
  • cleaning magnets and tray;
  • resetting the mileage using the chipping method.

Step-by-step instructions for changing the oil in the ASX 1.8 variator:

The process of changing the oil in the Mitsubishi ASX variator is completed.

Starting the engine after changing the oil in the variator

After the car owner fills in the required amount of fluid, he must reset the CVT oil degradation level. This procedure is necessary for pumping excess pressure by the pump.

Then the engine is started and the gears are changed for 5 seconds each. The last step is to check the oil level after stopping the engine. If it reaches the maximum level, then the replacement was successful.

Consequences of late replacement

With timely control of the oil level in the variator, its service life is significantly increased and can reach 300 thousand km. If a leak is not detected in time, the following car breakdowns are possible:

  • transmission failure;
  • increase in fuel consumption during the operation of the vehicle;
  • wear of automatic transmission components.

Until 2014, Mitsubishi ASX manufacturers produced cars without a radiator, which reduced the resource of the variator. There are no indications in the vehicle about the failure of the variator, so Mitsubishi car owners are advised to check the oil level on their own.

As you know, the quality of cars produced in Japan, namely Mitsubishi ASX, is at a good level. Vehicles are reliable and have excellent technical characteristics, but require timely attention. To postpone the repair period, you should be attentive to the maintenance of the car, change the oil in Mitsubishi Ax without delay, and follow the frequency recommended by the manufacturer. Car owners with a long driving experience are quite capable of replacing consumables on their own, so they do not need to contact the MOT.

Recently, the demand for CVTs that are installed on any vehicle has grown. CVTs are replacing "mechanics" and even "automatic". According to experts, the main advantage of the improved type of transmission is a high degree of safety and economy.

How does an oil change work in Mitsubishi Ash, specifics

The first car models of the Japanese automaker Mitsubishi with new transmissions appeared in 2010. Taking into account the manufacturer's recommendations, the lubricant should be changed upon reaching 90 thousand km of the distance traveled. But this figure was soon reduced to 75 thousand km, as the manufacturer guarantees the successful operation of the propulsion system only for this distance.

CVTs tend to use certain compositions of the lubricating mixture. The technical solution is created based on various conditions, for example, the pressure in the gearbox and the behavior of the metal surfaces of the power unit. In addition, the lubricating component must not allow the belt to slip.

It turns out that it's all about the right oil for the Mitsubishi ASX. The parameters of the consumable must comply with the manufacturer's requirements. It is worth noting that the lubricant for the variator has a characteristic distinguishing feature from other varieties, namely the green color.

The frequency of oil changes in Mitsubishi Ax depends on many aspects:

  • temperature indicator of the environment;
  • the nature of the application of the machine and the possibility of its use as a trailer;
  • load and working conditions of vehicles.

The increased attention to the Japanese car regarding the replacement of the lubricant is the key to flawless operation and the successful achievement of the tasks set.

Replacement methods

You can change the lubricant in the variator in various ways, while you need to be guided by the required needs. The main ways to replace consumables:

incomplete

This implies the draining of a certain volume of motor oil every five thousand kilometers. Usually drained up to five times. The main goal is to update consumables.

In one session

It is assumed that the waste will be completely drained and replaced with a fresh portion of oil of the same volume. This method can hardly be called effective, since at least some of the old oil remains in the engine system of the car.

According to the recommendations of experts, the oil change process in Mitsubishi ASX should be carried out according to the double portion method. This method involves the complete draining of used consumables and a double filling of oil. In more detail, after draining the lubricant, a new portion of it is poured, while the engine should be allowed to run on it for 10 minutes. As soon as the time has passed, the working composition merges again and a new portion is again poured into the system. The principle of a double run guarantees the complete "forcing" of oil residues from the engine

Features of choice

Many car owners are interested in what kind of oil to fill in Mitsubishi ASX so that the car's engine system works properly? It should be noted right away that Japanese cars produced are overly sensitive to consumables. Poor mixture quality can adversely affect engine performance, so it is important to make the right choice of oil mixture.

The Mitsubishi auto concern has established its own production of consumables with high quality characteristics. The most optimal choice for filling in Mitsubishi ASX is considered to be a synthetic proprietary mixture of Engine Oil 5W30. The product complies with international API and ILSAC standards.

The main stages of replacement

The scheme in which the oil is changed in the Mitsubishi ASX variator is as follows:

The vehicle is fixed on a special device, where the wheels are additionally blocked.

To get rid of the filtrate, it is necessary to open the hood of the car and remove the inlet pipe protection cover that blocks the approach to the battery.

The battery is removed from the fasteners and terminals, and then removed from the system.

A 12 mm wrench unscrews the bolts located under the battery.

With a larger key, 19 mm, unscrew the drain plug. After that, the consumable mixture is removed from the variator, the remaining oil from the sump is also carefully drained.

Now it's time to clean up the equipment. With a ten key, four bolts are unscrewed, fixing the oil exchanger.

The fine filtering system is being changed.

Fasteners holding the variator crankcase are released. The main purpose of this action is to wash and change the coarse filtrate. When flushing, you can use gasoline or alcohol.

The next step is to fix the gasket between the oil pan and the CVT. Bolts and drain plug are tightened.

The oil is filled through a specially created opening in which the oil dipstick is located. The volume is brought to the standard value.

After changing the composition, it is necessary to reset the "Oil Low Level" value. To do this, you need to pump out excess pressure.

A similar oil change technology in the Mitsubishi ACX variator is the key to the safe and uninterrupted operation of the car.

A Mitsubishi ASX car (Mitsubishi ACX) came to us for service, with a 1.8-liter engine, manufactured in 2013, front-wheel drive, mileage 202 thousand km, it is necessary to change the oil in the variator, in addition, we will replace the filter of the heat exchanger and the variator itself. After viewing this photo and video instruction, you can repeat everything with your own hands in a garage environment.

The process of changing the oil in the Mitsubishi ASX variator

The owner's variator began to behave a little problematic, it has a "tightening" when shifting gears. If you turn on the gear and give gas, there is a blow. The first oil change was made at 130 thousand km. run. 8.8 liters of new oil were purchased for today's replacement CVT Fluid J4 order number MZ320185.

Let's get to work, raise the car, dismantle the left front wheel. We take out the clips and remove the wheel boot. We substitute the container for used oil down, unscrew the drain plug with a 19 head:

We have a glass of about 4 liters. Then screw the plug back into place. We take a funnel with a spout, insert it into the hole for the dipstick and fill in 3 liters of new oil:

You can start the engine without pulling out the funnel. On a stationary car, holding the brake pedal, turn on each of the gears alternately and linger on it for 10-15 seconds. We turn off the engine. Again we climb under the car and unscrew the drain plug, draining the filled oil. After the oil drains, we begin to unscrew the pan, we do this with the help of a 10 head.

With a head of 10, unscrew the variator filter:

While the last drops will drain from the variator, we move on to the heat exchanger. With a head of 10, we unscrew 4 bolts of its fastenings:

You may need a flexible extension to get to the top two bolts. We take the heat exchanger aside, with the help of long clips we take out its filter:

When removing the filter, pay attention to its rubber band, if it is not removed along with the filter element, then it remains in the car, be sure to remove it.

The new filter comes with a new o-ring. We put the new heat exchanger filter with the original one, its order number 2824A006. It is very easy to set up by hand.

We turn to the replacement of the heat exchanger gasket, we have a new original from Mitsubishi, ordering number 2920A096. We dismantle the old one with a flat screwdriver:

We take a carburetor cleaner and wash the groove, then wipe it dry. We install a new rubber ring in the groove. We carefully put the heat exchanger in place and fasten the bolts.

We return to the variator, put a new filter on it, we have it from Asakashi Reviews, order number JT406K. The filter comes with a new rubber-cork pan gasket, but we will not install it, we pre-ordered the original one, its number for purchase 2705A096. If you have a torque wrench, then tighten the mounting bolts with a force of 9 H-m.

Before installing a new pan gasket, wash off the remaining oil with a carburetor cleaner, then wipe it dry with a clean cloth. We also carefully clean the pallet and magnets. We put the gasket on the pallet and bait it. The gasket and the pallet have guides on the sides. We tighten the pallet bolts with a force of 9 H-m. The original gasket is profiled, we hold it perfectly, it does not sweat, there is no need to smear it with sealant.

We lower the car and boldly fill in 4 liters of new oil for the variator. We start the engine, make sure that there are no smudges from below, warm it up to operating temperature and set the level. In our case, we had to add even more liters.
