Skoda Rapid 1.6 engine description. Skoda Rapid from the ZR park: this is space! Power plant options

The crisis is coming. The American dollar in exchange offices is timidly approaching the mark of 20 thousand Belarusian rubles, oil prices are rapidly falling against the background of the collapse of the Chinese stock exchange and are dragging analysts, bankers and journalists into the abyss of obscurity. But not ordinary citizens. Belarusians, with our usual calmness, go to work and manage to save every month from a ruble salary, while not losing interest in new budget cars.

It would seem that all the savings were taken to Russia during last year's auto boom. But no! Generous New Year's promotions of car dealers, profitable terms purchases and really affordable new foreign cars forced our compatriots to forget about tomorrow and live for today. So, at the end of December, there were no popular budget models left in the warehouses of Volkswagen, Nissan and Skoda dealers. The people took it all apart.

Today we will consider several popular "state employees" as part of a test drive of an unusual car among classmates - a liftback Skoda Rapid. The car for the test was taken for a reason: at the end of this year, Rapid received a new 1.6-liter benzy at its disposal. new engine MPI (110 hp) from the new EA211 series. Yes, and solely from subjective impressions, Rapid among the three or four most popular state employees looks like the most attractive model.

Simply put, the exterior of the Skoda Rapid looks fashionable. It is not made in an ostentatiously glamorous style, but in a modern urban look. Simple and bold. That's what I would call it. The neat, light silhouette of "Rapid" is not weighed down by excessive stampings and does not flaunt fashionable LEDs in optics. But at the same time, the car does not seem faceless. On the contrary, his appearance is characterized by the elegant rigor of a fitted suit from a famous couturier.

Recognizable Skoda touches, such as two dynamic lines stretching from the logo across the entire hood, clearly indicate the time of creation of this car.

And even after a few years, "Rapid" will not lose its natural charm bestowed by the designer. I am sure that even without unnecessary cosmetics (a la fashionable LEDs in optics), today it will give odds to the familiar VW Polo, having once become a real classic.

As for the interior, there is nothing particularly surprising here. If you have already had more than one date with Czech models before getting to know Skoda Rapid, you will feel at home.

The front panel is strict and concise. Nothing superfluous, nothing to catch your eyes! But at the same time, you can find all the necessary buttons and switches easily and intuitively. Five points for the ergonomics of the instruments! Indeed, Skoda Rapid is exactly the car that you don’t need to get used to at all: once you look, you can easily set everything up for yourself.

There are also no complaints about the information content of the instrument panel. Large white-on-black MFA display shows readings on-board computer. The radial markings are a little unusual right away, but you quickly adapt to it, and your eyes easily fix the smooth swings of the arrows on the digital values of the speedometer and tachometer.

After the used premium, beloved by many Belarusians, the finishing materials in Rapid will seem very mediocre to someone. Yes, the plastic is "oak", noble woods are not visible in the finish ... But, wait a minute! After all, we are driving a budget liftback, not an executive sedan.

In general, scold Skoda interior I don't want Rapid for Spartan decoration - the model plays in the budget B + class. In addition, I personally cannot say that the plastic on the front panel is completely "wooden" - the tactile sensation under the fingers cannot be called unpleasant: press harder - and it gives in. Therefore, I can say that the trim materials in "Rapid" are not frankly cheap, but just inexpensive.

But all this fades into the background when you start trying on Skoda Rapid for yourself. Open the door, sit down and be surprised! The driver's seat pleases with good lateral support, convenient settings, and steering column Adjustable for both reach and height. And here you are, with undisguised pleasure, holding on to a comfortable three-spoke steering wheel. It's time to hit the road!

With my height of 180 cm, I sat down in front without any problems, and then without any problems, with a margin somewhere in the palm of my hand in the area of the knees, I settled down behind myself on back seat. The beauty!

There will be plenty of space for rear passengers on a long journey. But in practice it was tested: two adults and a child in a child seat do not squeeze each other.

And with their feet, a three-year-old baby will not reach the back of the chair. Another problem that arises when traveling with small children is the bright, irritating sun for children's eyes. The creators of "Rapid", apparently, family people know about this, because the rear hemisphere of the liftback is toned.

A separate pride of the car is a huge trunk up to the top shelf of 530 liters. And given that the “fifth door” rises high, then you can load mixed-sorted luggage directly from your shoulder. A bag of potatoes? Please! It will go in without difficulty.

On the sides are traditional for many new Skoda niches, nets, hooks for bags. At the same time, a full-size spare tire is hidden underground and does not “eat up” usable space.

Incidentally, the volume luggage compartment easily expands up to 1500 cubic meters! To do this, you simply need to fold the back of the rear sofa. But, alas, a flat floor will not work.

And now about the new "Rapid" heart - a 1.6 liter MPI with a capacity of 110 hp. from the new EA211 family. Actually, this is one of several motors that were specially developed for the modular MQB platform (approx. Skoda Octavia, VW Passat B8).

According to the manufacturer's data, atmospheric units of the EA211 family are maximally unified in design with turbocharged counterparts, which makes it possible to minimize the cost of their production. The new family of engines also reduces fuel consumption: during a test drive, the Š KODA Rapid 1.6 l. MPI (110 hp) combined fuel consumption was 7.2 liters, at a speed of 100 km / h - 5.4 liters, 120 - 6.8 liters. AI-95.

The cylinder block of the new engines is made of aluminum by injection molding and is made with an open cooling jacket, “Open Deck” technology. The cylinder block is cast with individual gray cast iron cylinder liners pre-installed. Their outer surface is rough, so that the surface area is increased and heat transfer to the cylinder block is improved. In addition, it provides a positive positive connection between the cylinder block and the cylinder liner.

An exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head causes hot gases to heat up the engine, bringing it to operating temperature faster, now the interior must be provided with heat much faster than previous engines.

Instead of a timing chain drive, it is used exclusively toothed belt. The manufacturer recommends using AI-95 gasoline as fuel. True, it is still allowed to use gasoline with an octane rating of at least 91.

The technical characteristics of the motor that was on the test car are as follows: power 110 hp. and 155 Nm, displacement - 1598 cu. cm, compression ratio - 10.5: 1, piston stroke - 86.9 mm. Complies with Euro-5 toxicity standards. It is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-band Aisin automatic transmission.

According to subjective impressions, the 1.6-liter 110-horsepower engine is an excellent choice for supporters of unhurried movement around the city and on a country road. First and foremost, it's economical! When driving dynamically in the city, there is a slight drop in traction when accelerating hard from a standstill ( approx. only 155 Nm), so you have to play more actively with 2nd and 3rd gears of the manual gearbox and not be afraid to step on the gas at the start from the intersection. But if you do not build a racer out of yourself, then the car behaves very predictably and obediently.

Transmissions are short, turn on clearly. Just know for yourself, roll with the speed of the stream. Moreover, the motor even in the third confidently pulls out after a leisurely passage through a sleeping policeman. And to be honest, with such "mechanics" automatic transmission seems like overkill. Especially for older people, to whom, in fact, this tandem of MCP and 1.6 MPi is addressed. Moderately dynamic, but simple and familiar "aspirated" with the usual "mechanics" is not like the complex and resource-intensive TSI with robotic DSG. This means that people have more confidence in him.

Noticeable acceleration is felt from 2500 rpm, and for a more dynamic jerk, you need to turn the motor up to 4000 rpm. So, of course, you won’t save gasoline - the BC in city traffic with a ragged ride showed 9-10 liters per hundred. But if you go out of town, accelerate to 100 km / h and turn on the cruise control - the numbers in front of your eyes will delight you!

At 100 km / h in fifth gear, it turns out a little less than 2500 rpm. At 120 km / h, the speed jumps up to 3000 rpm and consumption increases by about a liter.

I really liked the grip - it “grabs” almost immediately. Just released the pedal - and the car has already smoothly moved forward. Newbie drivers will appreciate it. Especially when parking in front of the house in the evening. Maneuvering between cars, you can not touch the gas pedal at all. Know for yourself: just turn the steering wheel and look at the mirrors.

Unfortunately, everything good and for relatively little money happens only in a fairy tale. Alas, reality quickly puts everything in its place. So this good, well-tailored car shows its obvious budget class, you just have to move off the smooth asphalt.

And if the Rapid suspension eats up minor road defects in the form of a small hole, a joint or a hatch sunk into the asphalt, more or less tolerably, then on a country road any unevenness as the speed increases is clearly felt by the passengers of the Czech liftback. For the sake of experiment, I drove a couple of kilometers along an ordinary Belarusian gravel road and noted for myself that it is not recommended to drive a Rapid along a country road above 40 km / h.

Not the smallest clearance - 170 mm for the Russian (140 mm for the European) version - but the short-travel suspension forgives only relatively flat sections of a gravel road. A small hole or unevenness - immediately slow down, otherwise the risk of striking the lip of the front bumper on the gravel increases many times over. But, interestingly, even upon contact with the ground in the Rapida cabin, one does not feel extraneous sounds. The atmospheric engine does not roar, but quietly purrs under the hood, the wind does not whistle in the mirrors, and the stones do not scrape along the bottom. In general, as for budget class, the sound insulation of the Skoda Rapid is made at a decent level.

For 2 days of close acquaintance, I came up with the following: Skoda Rapid today is the most balanced offer among new budget cars, based on two main criteria - price and quality.

She will hook the young with her stylish appearance ( approx. available bright color solutions for body painting and more than 70 options) and reckless handling. Families will love it for sure spacious salon(approx. three (!) child seats are installed without problems) and the general practicality of the liftback. And the older generation will definitely pay attention to the spacious comfortable trunk (approx. the largest in the class) and a simple economical engine. In general, today "Rapid" - this is what the crisis ordered!

On the Belarusian market Skoda car Rapid is available with two new naturally aspirated petrol engines (1.6 MPI for 90 and 110 hp) and three turbocharged 1.2 TSI (90 and 105 hp) and 1.4 TSI (122 hp), which is equipped with 7 by default - step "robot" DSG. For the rest of the engines, either 5 or 6-speed mechanics or 6-automatic transmission are available.

* Prices are current at the time of publication of the material. All payments are made in Belarusian rubles.

Skoda Rapid 1.6 MPI 90 HP

Owner Review

I bought a new one in the Active package + WR0, WR1 package (air conditioning, mirrors, "warm up", passenger airbag, key with remote control, 1din radio ...)

Moved from Tagazovsky Hyundai Accent(which served me faithfully for almost 8 years and almost 80 thousand km. And, I hope, will serve the next owner).

I chose long and thoughtfully with test drives. Alternatives, of course, were polosedans and solaris. According to the totality of parameters, it was Rapid that won.

The engine deliberately chose 90 hp, because. physically it is the same as 110. The only difference is in the ECU firmware, which chokes it a little at about 3000 rpm.

Additionally, the following were installed: a steering shaft lock Garant and an alarm Starline B64.

In general, in comparison with the accent, the impressions are pleasant. Quiet, playful, comfortable.

After almost 3 weeks (about 1200 passed), I'm ready to highlight the subjective pros / cons:

Dynamics. For such a mass (less than 1200 kg), this engine is enough. Together with conveniently configured gear ratios The checkpoint (the first is short, the rest are quite long) - it is very pleasant to drive in the stream and on the highway (110 km / h, about 2800 in 5th gear).

At the same time, in city traffic, already from 60 km / h, it recommends tucking in the 5th and keeping in the stream without tension.

Yes, the load of the switched on air conditioner is practically not felt (hello to the "Koreans").

Controllability. A clear, sharp steering wheel (even on a standard kame).

Assembled pendant. Moderately hard, but not rumbling.

Comfort. Relatively good sound insulation of both the engine (up to 3k it is not audible), and the body itself. A little worse than in Solaris, but it seemed better than that of the "polosedan".

Cabin ventilation. Wide adjustment of both direction and intensity of air flows.

Good convection during the operation of the air conditioner (Koreans frankly have trouble with this: it’s hot in one place, you get cold in another).

Athermal glasses. The sun bakes noticeably less.

Regular sound. In my configuration there are 4 speakers (2 in each door, but to rear doors even there is no wiring) and the dealer installed a 1din Pioneer 180 radio (without connecting the power to the active antenna, I will describe this refinement later). Together, it all sounds pretty good (even to my sophisticated ears). I'm not going to change anything in the near future.

Skoda Rapid (2017-2018) 1.6 90 hp manual Active (new): video review with review (without test drive)

Video review of the new Skoda Rapid restyling 2017-2018 model year in the minimum configuration Active (Active) with

The color of instrument illumination is a pleasant almost white illumination. No pink, green, etc. edgy hues.

The interior lighting is switched on when the ignition is switched off and switched off when the passenger compartment is locked. Nice.

Liftback. Trunk. So much has already been written about it. There is nothing to add.

The work of the janitors. In motion, the speed of the wipers increases.

Cons (for the most part they are subjective and you can get used to them over time).

So far, I have not been able to find a 100% comfortable position in the chair for myself. Either the legs hang over the seat, or you almost have to pull the toe off while squeezing the clutch (at the same time, sometimes the sole clings to a strip of a regular rug and the leg gets stuck - neither here nor there. Brrrrr. Angry).

Perhaps not used to the brakes (behind the "drums"). They are not bad, with a fairly deep working stroke, but subjectively, inconsistent. "Every time is like the first time" (perhaps this is due to the fact that I'm still looking for a comfortable fit).

The main remark, which is most frustrating: windage. If there is a slight wind, then driving on the track at speeds of 90 and above turns into an exciting attraction - whoever gets sick first. I have never experienced such thrills in any car. With gusts of wind, overtaking and any other manifestations of air currents, she chatters, throws and who knows what else. Very annoying and dangerous. I have never experienced this on any car. In calm, it's perfect. Like on rails.

Do not rush to give advice: the tires changed, the wheels changed, the loading of the cabin, the trunk (from empty to fully loaded) changed. Dealer made complete diagnostics the entire undercarriage (including on the shaker).

Maybe the "bad road package" is to blame, I don't know. I will try to get used to it.

Regular rugs. They repel water, do not slip - this is a plus. They have small sides, the driver's one does not have a platform for the left leg and (most importantly) creak when it's warm enough. I will change, for sure.

Keyless power windows do not work and the dealer cannot do this (supposedly this is a problem on 2016 models). Already tired of the key back and forth to raise and lower the windows (at least behind the "meat grinder").

Instrument illumination brightness. In position 0 (DRL) and dimensions and in cloudy weather, the backlight is almost absent (there is a light sensor) and the instruments are poorly readable. On the other hand, a reminder - it's time to turn on the dipped beam.

quarrel side windows. Between the velvet in the door and the glass gets sand and dust, which lead to scratches.

Fuel consumption. City about 10, highway about 7 (90-110 km/h). Lew 95th. While running twist no more than 3000. Almost no air conditioning. It turns out a lot. Not expected.

Mirror adjustment panel. Rather, a claim to all vagam. This joystick ... (I remember the "Koreans" with sadness).

- "Blind zones" of regular mirrors. A fairly large area falls between "no longer in the salon" and "not yet in the side".

Because of acute angle windshield, parpriz (torpedo) often glares in it.

For now, perhaps that's all.

A little later I will try to describe how I modified the radio adapter to supply power to the staff. active antenna and how to connect the registrar.

Engines installed on Skoda Rapid in Russia are divided into three types by volume: 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6.

All presented engines are gasoline and are already familiar from other models of the VAG concern.

With the arrival on the Russian market in 2012, the basic versions of the Rapids were equipped with 1.2-liter atmospheric engines with a maximum power of 75 horses. Previously, these three-cylinder power plants were found on Fabia.

The strength of the engine is clearly not enough for a car weighing 1.2 tons, especially when there are several passengers or a heavy load in the cabin. The range in which the engine is most efficient is in the range of 3.5-5.5 thousand revolutions. This means that during acceleration the motor has to be twisted high in order to keep up with the flow.

The dynamics, by the way, are not impressive: passport acceleration to 100 km / h takes a monstrously long 13.9 seconds. It is especially bad at speeds over 80. Overtaking on the highway costs irretrievably lost nerve cells.

I do not like the 1.2 CGPC to move uphill at all, and the "shuttle run" in the city makes the car's behavior twitchy. It is relatively tolerable to use Rapid with the smallest motor only with a slow and measured ride.

With fuel consumption, everything is not so clear. A small volume is misleading, enticing with a modest appetite. In fact, due to the fact that the engine is constantly working under heavy load, gasoline consumption increases. Therefore, it will not work to save money; in urban mode, the same 8-9 liters per hundred will burn.

1.2 MPI has no operational advantages compared to 1.6 and 1.4 turbo engines. The only thing that attracts small-capacity Rapids is their lower price.

To the minuses in addition to disgusting dynamic characteristics we can attribute a kind of “three-cylinder” sound of work, a maintenance-free timing chain drive, which can indicate itself with a knock already by 80 thousand mileage. The engine resource is a level lower than that of the proven 1.6.

As a result, the 1.2 liter engine for the Skoda Rapid was unsuccessful. It is not surprising that they quickly stopped installing it under the hood of a liftback. It’s better not to even consider buying such a Rapid on secondary market, and don't skimp on the much more balanced 1.6.

The 1.6-liter engine installed on the Rapid had as many as three varieties: CFNA, CWVA and CWVB. The first unit with a capacity of 105 Horse power began to be used on the Polo Sedan in 2010. This is the usual four-cylinder engine with a sixteen-valve head.

The engine block is aluminum, but the cylinder liners are cast iron. The timing chain drive is not serviced. This means that over time the engine will start to knock due to chain stretching. It will still have to be changed, like the belt, but this repair is more time consuming.

The 1.6 engine is a necessary minimum for comfortable movement both around the city and on the highway. Of course, with him the car does not become a sports car, but in the city it is not as jerky as 1.2, and overtaking is much easier for him. This engine is more resourceful than the three-cylinder 1.2. There are frequent cases when he rolled back 300 thousand km. 1.6 - perfect option for everyday use.

Since 2015, Rapid has been equipped with new 1.6-liter engines. These are 110 hp CWVA and 90 hp CWVB. Between themselves, they differ only in firmware. The difference with its predecessor in design is quite noticeable. The head of the block is deployed, the inlet and outlet have been swapped.

There were phase shifters on the intake valves. Instead of a chain, there is now a timing belt drive. Improved cooling system.

TO typical malfunctions 1.6 refers to the knock of the engine on a cold one. This is due to the design features of the exhaust manifold and piston group. To solve the problem, modified pistons are installed.

It would be more correct to replace the release, but this can only be done on cars whose warranty has already expired. If a knock occurs when driving over bumps, then the engine mount is not working properly.

It is being replaced with an improved version. According to owners, with proper maintenance, 1.6 engines without overhaul go more than 200 thousand km.

1.4TSI

The top engine for Rapid is a turbocharged 1.4. This is a four-cylinder, sixteen-valve unit with a chain in the timing drive. Motors of this EA111 series have been installed on VAG cars since 2005.

The unit is equipped with a direct injection system, hydraulic lifters. Intake valves with variable valve timing for optimal filling of the cylinders at low and high revs. The pressurization system uses a small TD02 turbine.

On Rapida, this engine is only available in tandem with DSG box. Partly thanks to her, the liftback turned out to be so dynamic. Rapid consistently shows passport acceleration to hundreds, which is 9.5 s. In some independent tests, the compact Skoda even managed to surpass this result.

In 2015, a new series of 1.4 TSI engine - EA211 settled under the hood of Rapid. In fact, it is completely new unit: the block, diameter and stroke of the pistons have changed.

Just like on the new generation 1.6, the block head was deployed, and the timing mechanism received a belt drive. A new dual-circuit cooling system has been applied.

To the most common problems early versions of 1.4 include chain stretching, which can sneak up already at 50 thousand km. 1.4 engines take a long time to warm up to operating temperature.

When starting on a cold, sometimes there is vibration, trimming. After warming up, all symptoms of malfunctions disappear. Despite this, the engines cannot be called frankly bad. With careful operation, they go more than 200 thousand km.

The main plus of a turbo engine is excellent dynamics and the possibility of tuning. The usual flashing of the control unit on Stage 1 will give 140-150 horsepower.

At the same time, such an increase will have almost no effect on the engine resource. However, in general, the reliability of 1.4 is lower than that of 1.6. Therefore, leaning towards buying Rapid with TSI makes sense only if the car is more than just a means of transportation for you.

Skoda Rapid 1.6 90 HP › Logbook › Than just details about the EA211 CWVB engine

Someone has already done the work and posted some details about the new EA211 motor, aka CWVB or CWVA, if 110 hp.
For those people who don't like to read a lot:
- valves per cylinder - four;
- the block of cylinders is cast from an aluminum alloy;
- camshafts rotates a toothed belt;
- fiberglass reinforced belt designed entirely for the life of the engine;
- the exhaust manifold is built into the cylinder head;
- lightweight valves move by means of roller rocker arms with hydraulic compensators;
- phase control on the intake side;
- antifreeze separately cools the block of cylinders and its heads.

Engine capacity 1598 cc Torque 155 Nm. Power 90 hp (for modification CWVA - 110).
Distributed fuel injection system. The distance between the axes of the cylinders is 82 mm. The cylinders are connected to the block only at its bottom, from the sides they are freely washed with antifreeze. Cylinder liners - cast iron.
The EA211 series motor was developed and brought to a serial model by engineers in the Czech Republic.

Here is the complete information.

The development of a new motor is a very costly business: the bill goes to some millions of euros. Therefore, it is not uncommon for different automotive companies combined to make one motor for shared use. In this case, atmospheric engines are not entirely interesting to European buyers now: in terms of fuel consumption, they do not have the basis to compete with modern turbo engines, and today this is almost a death sentence. Therefore, atmospheric engines for budget cars, which are popular in our country and in a number of other countries, are more often modernized than radically changed.

Engine resource Skoda Rapid 1.6 90.

What led SKODA to create a new naturally aspirated engine when the old one was not bad? The answer sounds surprising: the introduction of a new MQB platform, which is mainly designed for the use of turbo engines. Completely confused? It's a matter of approach.

The MQB platform is a set of some universal solutions for creating cars of different brands included in Volkswagen concern. These decisions relate to bodies and suspension, transmission units and security systems, radio navigation devices and, appreciated by women, engines. This approach is economically beneficial for both the concern and consumers: it is better to combine efforts and funds in order to develop one very good motor, which will be used on ten different models than to make several medium-sized engines from an engineering point of view.

For cars on the MQB platform (for example, this includes new Octavia) developed a line of new turbocharged engines, diesel and gasoline. But the principle of "universal building blocks" was applied in this matter. Which of the engines of this line do not take, they will definitely have common features. For example, there will be exactly four valves per cylinder. The cylinder block will be cast from aluminum alloy. Camshafts rotates the toothed belt. However, the exhaust manifold is not visible from the outside at all: it is integrated into the cylinder head. And so it was possible, without spending extra money, to create a 1.6-liter atmospheric engine that meets all modern requirements: it was not invented from scratch, but with an arsenal of ready-made solutions in stock.

First of all new engine offered in our country for the new SKODA Octavia, then for SKODA Yeti, now it's the turn of SKODA Rapid. It is worth noting: the engine in question, the 1.6 MPI EA211 series, was developed and brought to a serial model by SKODA engineers in the Czech Republic, and is used on cars of different brands that are part of the concern.

Engine MPI1.6 MPI is an inline four-cylinder 16-valve engine with a displacement of 1598 cc. cm, equipped with a system of distributed fuel injection. With the previous motors with the same name (alas, the EA111 series), leading their pedigree since the 1990s, it has practically nothing in common. Basically, they are united by the working volume, the distance between the axes of the cylinders (82 mm) and distributed fuel injection into the intake manifold.

The developers made a simple, alas, elegant design. Nettle, cylinder block. It is designed following the Open Deck principle. Then there are cylinders connected to the block itself only at its bottom, and from the sides they are freely washed with antifreeze. The absence of unnecessary jumpers has a beneficial effect on the cooling of the cylinders, the problem of cavitation is eliminated, then the formation of harmful air bubbles occurs, which leads to the slow destruction of the surfaces washed by the coolant (when, the noise of the kettle during heating is explained by the phenomenon of cavitation).

Maslozhor Skoda 1,6. Engine CWVA/CWVB. So I got to the notorious hated by everyone engine concern.

Uniform cooling of the cylinders also helps to reduce oil consumption for waste. With uneven cooling of the cylinder walls, microdeformations occur, due to which the rings do not fit snugly against the walls along the entire circumference, and oil enters the combustion chamber. If there is no deformation, then the oil burns less.

The block on EA211 engines is cast from an aluminum alloy, and the cylinders form liners from durable gray cast iron. A motor with sleeves is not the cheapest, but a very good solution from an engineering point of view. Cast iron is a wear-resistant material that conducts heat well. Already today, by way of a highly rough outer surface (the one that is washed with antifreeze from all sides), heat transfer becomes the most efficient, since the contact area of the liner walls with the coolant increases.

On the contrary, twist the aluminum piston of the new motor in the palm of your hand, then it should be noted how simple it has a shape. Its bottom is flat, only recesses for valves. For about 30 years, pistons had a much more complex shape. Step back? Not at all. A flat piston is lighter than a “curly” one, which makes the motor more dynamic. Why couldn't they make such simple pistons for 30 years? Because there are years of research behind this simplicity. They didn’t know for about 30 years how to achieve optimal distribution with a flat piston head fuel mixture in the combustion chamber.

aluminum head cylinder block, as mentioned above, on MQB engines it has an integrated exhaust manifold. Typically the exhaust manifold is on the outside and is known for getting very hot within seconds of starting the engine. Touching it threatens severe burns. It is understandable: incandescent gases enter the collector immediately from the combustion chamber. The concern's engineers decided to take advantage of this property of the manifold and hid it in the cylinder head. Now hot gases warm up the engine, and it quickly reaches operating temperature. A warm engine has a greater return than a cold one, consumes less fuel and, which is important in winter, provides heat to the interior faster. Even today, this design is lighter than the traditional one. Sell, for two kilograms, but the totality of such measures served to ensure that the new engine one third lighter than before.

KEY DOP

On top of the head cylinder block camshaft housing is installed. It is also made from aluminium. Shafts rotate on new ball bearings of radial design: friction losses are reduced, and together with fuel consumption.

The valves have also changed: they have become lighter, and in order to reduce friction losses, they move through roller rocker arms with hydraulic compensators, and not directly from the camshafts. Moreover, on all EA211 motors without exception, phase control on the intake side is also used. For about 30 years, such a solution was found only on expensive multi-cylinder engines. We will not dwell on this technology in detail here, but we recall that it helps to increase engine output in a wide range of revolutions. Indeed, in a good way, for each operating mode, it is necessary to select a specific opening time for the intake valves. Nettle, at low speeds it is advisable to cover them early, at high speeds, on the contrary, later. Without allowing accounting (software) to change the phases, this cannot be achieved.

Even such a simple one, no teeth, has undergone refinement, a detail like an intake manifold. Engineers have optimized the location and configuration of the channels so that the air flow meets the least resistance. And special resonator chambers made it possible to reduce flow fluctuations and, as a result, reduce noise during motor operation.

The cooling system has also been optimized. In a new engine, antifreeze circulates in the engine through two independent circuits: cylinder block and his heads. Ask why such difficulties? Our client remains explained very easily. The more perfect the motor, the less it produces excess heat. What well. On the other hand, it takes longer to reach the operating temperature and generates less heat for the stove. An exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head and a dual-circuit cooling system allow this feature modern motors level.

KEY DOP

The scheme works like this: while engine does not warm up to 80 degrees, antifreeze does not leave the motor at all. Only later than the turn of the first thermostat opens, connecting the circuit of the block head with the pump and expansion tank. And therefore, the combustion chambers receive enhanced cooling, the filling of the cylinders improves, and the likelihood of detonation decreases. Circuit cylinder block in this case, it still remains isolated from the general accounting system - it needs to gain temperature in order to reduce friction in the crank mechanism. And only when the sensors fix 105 degrees in this zone, the second thermostat will work, the cooling system will go into a large circle and connect to the radiator. Financially, our client remains to happen in a short time: the temperature needle moves straight every day.

You, some decisions "traditionalists" seem strange. Nettle, of course, is the opinion that the chain in the timing drive is more reliable than the belt. It used to be so. The fiberglass reinforced belt on the new 1.6 MPI motor is designed entirely for the life of the engine, but, in contrast to the chain, it does not stretch and is less noisy.

This, the skeptic will note, is that if we compare the characteristics of the old and new engines, then the difference is essentially negligible. The “four” of 1.6 liters turns out to be five “horses” more powerful (110 forces versus 105 before), having a slightly higher maximum torque of 155 Nm (before it was 153 Nm). Isn’t the “output” too small for such an extensive list technical changes? To answer such a question, it is advisable to look into the one in this section that describes the efficiency of the car. In this question we will find that with the old Rapid engine with 1.6 MPI engine and mechanical box gears in the city spent 8.9 l / 100 km, and with a new one - 7.9 l / 100 km. With a new automatic transmission, the difference in the city is more noticeable: the savings are about two liters from a hundred.

KEY DOP

The 1.6 MPI motor of the EA211 series is also supplied in a derated version. Along with the 110-horsepower version, Rapida customers are offered a “lightweight” version - in terms of output, not design - version: its power is reduced to 90 horsepower, and the amount of torque is the same as on a 110-horsepower engine, that is, there are 155 Nm . You benefit from the price of the car, insurance, and annual transport tax.

Skoda Rapid engines will please Russian buyers with a variety. In total, the manufacturer offers three gasoline options Skoda engine Rapid, these are aspirated engines with a working volume of 1.2 and 1.6 liters, plus a 1.4-liter turbo engine.

Today we will consider detailed specifications these engines. We note right away that in Europe, the new Skoda Rapid has a greater choice of power units, in particular, they offer a whole line of diesel engines. They decided to bring only three to Russia. Moreover, the gasoline MPI 1.6 liter is familiar to the owners of the Volkswagen Polo sedan, it is exactly the same there.

Base engine Skoda Rapid has a volume of only 1.2 liters and a power of 75 horsepower, more budget sedan in principle, it is not necessary. This motor has only 3 cylinders, but 4 valves each. The cost of a car with such a power unit is less than 500 thousand rubles, which makes the car very attractive against the background of competitors. Moreover, the Skoda Rapid is the most spacious interior and trunk in its class. But let's stop at technical specifications power unit, which is combined only with a 5-speed manual.

Well, the proven 1.6-liter Polo sedan engine, which migrated to the Skoda Rapid, and even with two transmissions. This is a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. This power unit has a chain in the timing drive, which makes it more reliable compared to engines that use a timing belt. And the absence of a turbine guarantees a large motor resource of the power unit.

Characteristics of the engine Skoda Rapid 1.6 MPI (77 kW)
