Robotic DSG gearbox: device, fault diagnosis, advantages and disadvantages. How to change the oil in a DSG box Vw dsg box description oil change

DSG is a special type of transmission that combines the principles of mechanical and automatic transmission. This preselective robotic box is installed on VAG cars - Audi, Skoda, Seat and Volkswagen. One of its main advantages is that gear shifts are smooth, without losing power flow and positively affecting engine economy.

In fact, DSG is an abbreviation for the German concept of Direktschaltgetriebe, which can be translated into Russian as “direct gear box”. robotic boxes of this type with 6 ranges were first used in 2003 on a car Volkswagen Golf R3 with a 6-cylinder engine producing 250 hp. Later, they began to put them not only on sports versions, but also on cars designed for the average buyer.

Robotic transmission: what is it?

The principle of the device and the advantages of this transmission

On vehicles equipped with DSG, the driver shifts gears independently using the gearbox accelerator, but the action itself is coordinated electronically. With mechanics, such a box is similar in design and component parts: primary and secondary shaft, clutch and synchronizers. What is common with a robot or automatic machine is the absence of a clutch pedal, for which automation is responsible.

The DSG transmission consists of 5 shafts, multiple gears and 2 clutches. A clear mechanism of all components and the parallel operation of two multi-plate clutches are responsible for the transmission of torque. The bottom line is that one clutch works with odd gears (as well as reverse), and the other with even ones. It turns out that if the car is moving in second gear, then the third is already ready to start working - all that remains is to release the first clutch.

The same principle of operation in the case of a downshift. For example, a car is moving at the fifth speed, and the fourth is already engaged, its gear is simply spinning idle, but will immediately begin to work when the engine speed drops. Thanks to this device, some cars with a preselective gearbox are faster than cars with a manual transmission.
When operating a car with DSG, gear changes are invisible, as on a CVT. Many drivers talk about the feeling that you are driving in one gear. Absence of shocks when switching, which are characteristic automatic box and especially mechanics, a definite plus.

Another significant benefit of the DSG transmission is fuel economy. By tests automobile concern Volkswagen AG savings with mechanical box is up to 1.5 liters per hundred, which is not bad, given the high fuel prices in Russia and Europe.

The DSG-6 gearbox also has internal marking DQ-250. Unlike the same 7-speed DQ-200 has an important difference in design. The clutch block of the DSG-6 is immersed in an oil bath, where it is regardless of whether the gearbox is working or not. Therefore, the "six" is often called a "wet" transmission. For its operation, more oil is needed (about 6-6.5 liters) than for a more modern DSG-7 (2 liters).

Regular replacement lubricant necessary for a 6-speed robot, while a 7-speed gearbox has a dry clutch, so maintenance and replacement transmission fluid not required by the factory.

When purchasing or operating a car with a DSG-6 gearbox, remember that its long service life directly depends on 3 factors. This is a timely oil change in the transmission, a minimum of driving in slip mode and a decrease in the time spent in traffic jams.

When to change the oil in DSG-6 type boxes

The replacement of transmission oil in such gearboxes must be carried out strictly according to the regulations described in the vehicle maintenance manual. More than 90% of DSG-6 breakdowns are untimely requests to change the oil in the transmission and violation of the rules for operating the motor or gearbox.

Transmission repair cannot be called a low-cost pleasure - in a number of regions the cost is more than 50,000 rubles. Often, solenoid valves in the gearbox mechatronics fail, which already threatens with spending more than 100,000 rubles. However, in general, the "six" is recognized as one of the most reliable robotic transmissions, which, with proper maintenance, travels 200-250 thousand kilometers without major repairs.

For most Volkswagen cars, Audi and Skoda manufacturer indicates that the replacement of transmission fluids in DSG-6 boxes is carried out when a mileage of 60 thousand kilometers is reached. However, most experts recommend carrying out this procedure much earlier - at the mark of 40 thousand kilometers on the car's odometer.

Many car owners note that changing the oil in a DSG of any type helps to get rid of jerks and jerks in operation, the car drives more smoothly, and it seems that they have installed new transmission. This is another reason to change the oil in the gearbox earlier than the time recommended by the manufacturer.

Oil change in DSG: what is needed and how to perform the procedure yourself?

Changing the fluid in a gearbox of this type will require transmission oil for gearboxes with double clutch DSG - VAG G052182A2 in the amount of 6 liters, oil filter VAG 02E305051C, as well as the sealing ring of the drain plug under the article N91084501.

A number of drivers prefer Pentosin FFl-2 transmission oil to the “Vagovskaya” fluid, which is cheaper by 300-350 rubles per liter. It has the same VW TL 521 82 approval, which guarantees stable operation of DSG dual clutch gearboxes. The main thing is, in no case do not interfere with one another in any proportions. If you chose VAG, then pour only it, if, on the contrary, Pentosin, then completely oil of this model.

The easiest and most reliable way to change the fluid in dual clutch transmissions is to go to the dealer, as certain equipment and skills are required, and a work guarantee can be obtained from a certified center. The estimated cost of the procedure, together with all consumables (filter, oil, sealant, etc.) will be 10-12 thousand rubles.
If you decide to replace the transmission fluid in the gearbox yourself, then the savings will be about 3-4 thousand. True, you will have to devote 2-3 hours of free time and get a tool.

The main stages of this process

  1. We raise the car on a lift or drive into a viewing hole. We turn off the engine, put the gearshift knob into parking mode.
  2. We unscrew the drain plug of the box pan. First, about a liter of liquid will merge, after that we unscrew the control tube (you will need an 8mm hexagon). The rest of the used oil will be poured in the amount of 4-5 liters. Pay attention to whether there are foreign particles in the liquid, similar to metal chips. Their presence is a sign of an imminent failure of the DSG, so it is best to contact a specialized center for transmission diagnostics.
  3. Next, go to the box oil filter, which is located above. To access it, you will have to remove the battery and the platform under it, and for greater convenience, we remove the case air filter and air ducts coming from it. We unscrew the cover one or two turns, let the oil residues drain into the crankcase, after which we unscrew the cover completely and change the transmission filter element.
  4. Next, you need to fill in new gear oil. Some pour it directly into the filter housing, but this is quite long and inconvenient - it takes about 10-12 minutes per liter. It is best to find an adapter that screws in instead of the oil drain plug. Also, a hose goes to it, with a diameter of 10 and it is desirable to find a transparent color. This can be bought at any hardware store. The length will be enough 2 meters. We pull the other end of the hose over the neck of a narrow funnel, which we fasten higher than it is located engine compartment. For example, hanging on Side mirror car.
  5. Pour the oil into the funnel, remembering to shake each bottle. According to the manufacturer, the total volume is about 7 liters, but only 5 liters are included when replacing. So, we pour out the contents of 5 bottles or 5 liters, depending on what container you have, and the 6th one is only half.
    We start the engine, the funnel continues to be attached to the mirror of the car. We warm up the box by switching the gearbox accelerator to different modes. The oil temperature should be in the region of 35-45 ° Celsius in order to most accurately check the level. As a rule, transmission fluid is poured at room temperature - 20 ° and 3-5 minutes are enough to warm up the car's gearbox.
  6. After that, we unscrew the funnel and install the last bottle of oil instead. Then we put it on the floor, i.e. below the level of the engine and gearbox. Through the transparent hose tube, you will see how excess transmission fluid drains. As soon as it stops flowing, but only dripping a little, unscrew the adapter and tighten the oil drain plug. Do not forget to replace the seal on it in advance.
  7. We twist it only by hand. With the engine running, again turn on each gearshift position in turn with a delay of 3-5 seconds. We return the lever to "P", but do not turn off the engine. We unscrew the plug. If oil drips, then let the excess go. If nothing drains, then add liquid and repeat all over again.

Vehicle Maintenance: Draining and Refilling Transmission Lubricant

The most difficult thing in a procedure such as changing transmission fluid in a DSG is determining its exact temperature in the box. The best way to deal with this is a special device from VAG, which is connected to the diagnostic connector of the car. However, many motorists manage without it. The main thing to understand is that both a lack and an excess of oil are harmful to the transmission, and the optimum temperature for checking the level is 35-45 °.

And a little about the secrets of the Author

My life is not only connected with cars, namely repair and maintenance. But I also have hobbies like all men. My hobby is fishing.

I started a personal blog where I share my experience. I try a lot of things, various methods and ways to increase the catch. If interested, you can read. Nothing more, just my personal experience.

Attention, only TODAY!

DSG is a special kind of transmission. This mechanism combines the principles of operation of automatic and technology, and the preselective mechanism itself is found on cars of the VAG group. The main advantage of such a box is that it runs very smoothly. At the same time, power is not lost, which has a positive effect on efficiency. Many car owners are interested in how the DSG-6 oil is changed, because the mechanism is quite complicated.

Advantages

When using this transmission, the gear change is not felt at all. The owners claim that driving at such a checkpoint is comparable to a CVT. There are no shocks when switching, which are characteristic of mechanics and automatic. And this is definitely a plus.

But on this positive sides transmissions never end. Another significant advantage of the DSG system is economy. VAG specialists conducted a series of tests, as a result of which it turned out that the savings with these boxes is about one and a half liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, which is quite significant. And this despite the fact that power unit was the same on the DSG and a simple automatic transmission.

The 6-speed DSG is internally marked DQ-250. Unlike seven-speed analogues, it has a serious design feature. The clutch here works in an oil bath. Therefore, the transmission is called "wet". It is impossible to burn such a clutch, as on a seven-speed DSG. But at the same time, more oil is needed to operate the box than for more modern seven-speed systems.

This advantage requires the owner to regularly change the oil on the DSG-6. But 7-speed units operate in dry conditions - here the clutch is not immersed in the bath. Therefore, an oil change according to factory regulations is not necessary.

Device and principle of operation

In general, this is ordinary mechanics, but the gears are switched on by a robotic mechanism without power loss. This DSG is different from traditional mechanics. In a manual transmission, torque is interrupted when the clutch is depressed. When the torque is removed, the fuel is wasted just like that. DSG gearboxes add dynamics and efficiency to cars.

The main thing that distinguishes these boxes from any other is the two clutches. But in reality it's even more difficult. There are also two boxes. They are in the same building. If two gearboxes are used, then there are also two input shafts, with a separate clutch for each.

Gears for odd gears are installed on one shaft along with the rear. On the second, even gears are fixed. After the car starts in first gear, second is already on and ready to switch. When the electronics decide it's time to change gear, the input shaft clutch will disengage, and the second one will quickly pick up the torque without any loss in power.

The gears are switched on by ordinary synchronizers. The forks are driven by hydraulic cylinders. The clutch is also engaged and disengaged by hydraulic system. Manages all this mechatronics. This is the main electronic and hydraulic assembly. The shaft of even gears is made hollow. Inside it is a shaft of odd speeds. This is how VAG engineers managed to install two manual gearboxes.

Typical "diseases"

It is necessary to change the DSG-6 oil strictly according to the manufacturer's regulations - they can be seen in the instructions for the machine. Almost all typical breakdowns occur due to an untimely change of transmission fluids.

The multi-disk drive wears out very often. Most often, this manifests itself in the periodic lack of loading. reverse gear and in jerks when switching even gears. The gearbox can go into emergency modes. In this case, it is impossible to include odd gears. DSG repair in this case is the replacement of the entire friction clutch or the replacement of individual discs. Next, the basic setup and adaptation is performed.

Also, one of the problems of these boxes is the wear of the solenoids that regulate the pressure in mechatronics. In this case, you can feel jerks when switching. Breakdown does not cause errors. You can solve the problem by replacing the solenoids. Also performed complete replacement mechatronics in some cases.

There may be some problems with electronic unit mechatronics. They are usually detected during a cold start of the engine. The DSG-6 box will once go into emergency mode. Sometimes for the same reason, the checkpoint may periodically go into emergency mode. You can restore the work by replacing the mechatronics or repairing the unit.

Often craftsmen diagnose wear and other bearings. Differentials also fail. This is manifested by increased noise during movement, braking, acceleration. You can solve the problem overhaul DSG using quality used spare parts.

When to change the oil?

Change the oil yourself

To replace the gear oil, you will need six liters of VAG G052182A2 fluid, an oil filter, and a drain plug o-ring.

When changing oil to DSG-6, some drivers prefer not to use VAG products, but Pentosin FFI-2 gear oil. It has a lower price, all the necessary tolerances and guarantees stable operation of the dual clutch gearbox. The main thing is never, under any circumstances, mix this product with VAGovsky.

Process steps

First of all, the car is raised on a lift or installed on a pit. recommended for parking. Next, unscrew the drain plug on the gearbox housing. First, a liter of liquid will pour out of the box. Then you need to unscrew the control tube - about five more liters will pour out from there. If chips leak out with the oil, then this is a reason to contact the service to repair the box.

The next step is to replace the filter. On many cars (including Skoda) with DSG-6, the filter is higher. To gain access to it, you need to remove the battery along with the platform, the air filter housing and air ducts. Then you can unscrew the filter.

Filling in new oil

Then you should fill in the DSG-6 preselective gearbox with new fluid. Some pour it directly into the filter hole. But it is very long. It is best to find a special adapter that is screwed in instead of an oil filler plug, and two meters of hose. A funnel is pulled over the hose from above and the product is poured.

According to the manufacturer, the box should include about seven liters. But in reality there are only five. Next, the engine is started, and the funnel is kept where it was. Then the box switches to different modes. After that, check the level.

The funnel is taken out, and a bottle of oil is put in its place. The bottle must be placed on the floor. Excess oil will drain into it. When the liquid stops flowing, but only drips, the adapter can be unscrewed.

Examination

This completes the DSG-6 oil change. The oil filler plug is screwed on, the box is parked, and the engine is not turned off. Special equipment from VAG will help determine the oil temperature. Next, unscrew the plug and see if oil drips. If this is so, then he is allowed to drain. If not, then add more and repeat the procedure.

DSG 6 speed wet clutch

The VAG concern regulates an oil change every 60,000 km. The simplest thing is to contact the dealer, as special equipment and fixtures are required. But if you want to save money, you can try to do it on your own.

To begin with, you will have to spend a little money and, in addition to consumables (the oil itself, the filter and the drain plug seal), order the nearest turner such an adapter:

threaded part 24*1,5 , approximately 12/13 mm, on the other hand, a tube for a hose with an internal diameter 10 mm

A little later, I improved the device:

The hose itself, preferably transparent, can be bought at any car market

1.5 meters is enough.

In the same place, on the market, you need to buy either such a gun

Better yet, here's a tool like this:

its advantage in the presence of valves for suction and expulsion

well, or you can buy a simple funnel for a couple of cents, with the narrowest neck

without an engineering education, they are easy enough to make friends with each other

With these actions, we make a replacement for the factory fixture, which looks like this:

Now the replacement procedure itself:

The engine is off, the gear selector is in the " R»

Unscrew the drain plug

After draining the first portion from the same drain hole, you need to unscrew the plastic tube (with an internal hexagon 8 mm). Its length determines the oil level in the gearbox)

The gearbox oil filter is located on top

To get to it, ELSA prescribes the removal of the air filter housing and battery. But in fact, you can do without the last point.

in my case (1.9 BKC) to the lid oil filter can be reached without dismantling the battery tray

Place a rag, slightly unscrew the cover, let the excess oil drain into the crankcase, then unscrew the cover completely, set it aside (removing it is very problematic) and remove the filter element itself

It is advisable to remove the oil remaining in the recess. For example, using a conventional syringe

Installing a new filter element

We twist the lid

We fall under the car again. We screw the plastic tube until it stops and tighten it with a moment 3 Nm.

We screw the adapter with a tap

In order to produce a bay in the absence of a supercharger, we hang our substitute so that it is higher than the checkpoint

Pour in the oil (previously shaking each jar). According to the manual, full filling volume7,2 liters. But in fact, 5.0 is enough and it will merge back a little more. If there is a supercharger, use it

We close the tap.

We start the engine (the funnel hangs there), we begin to warm up. Excerpt from ELSA:

that is, we start the engine, connect the computer, go to the 19th group

If the temperature is higher, we turn off the engine and let the oil cool, if it is colder than 35 °, we warm it up. When we reach the desired temperature range, keeping the foot on the brake pedal, we sequentially move the selector to different positions. Then we put "P", we dive under the car.

Open the cock and allow excess oil to drain until the level reaches the overflow pipe.

When the oil stops flowing and starts dripping

You can unscrew the adapter and screw in the plug (with a new seal!)

The most subtle in the described method is the determination of the oil temperature. Without a special device or VAG-com, it will be difficult to get into the desired range. Especially taking into account the fact that both a lack and an excess of oil are harmful for the operation of the gearbox.

But, nevertheless, many of the car owners carried out such a procedure on their own, and we are not aware of cases of breakdowns due to this. The main described methods for determining the temperature are tactile. That is, to the touch

It’s good when the car is new and you don’t have to think about where and when to service your iron horse. Another thing is when you bought a used car with an expired warranty, it is clear that there is no point in continuing to service the car from an authorized dealer. In today's article, we will talk in detail about how to independently change the oil in a DSG-7 box in Volkswagen Passat CC (there is practically no difference between replacing the restyled and derestyling versions, at least the process itself is completely similar). We will also consider the issue of choosing an oil, which oil is recommended to be filled official dealer and which oil is best suited as an analogue so that you can save a little.

Owners of the bu Volkswagen Passat ss 1.8 with dsg-7 often have the question of whether they need to change the oil in the box or not? The controversy arises from the fact that the DSG-7 uses a dry clutch, which is why many people mistakenly think that the oil in the box is completely empty and therefore there is nothing to change. Let's dispel this myth.

How much oil is in a DSG-7 DQ 200 box?

The second most popular question, which logically follows from the first, is how much oil do you need to change? After studying a huge number of forums where owners share their experiences, we came to a figure of 2.1 liters. In comparison, the oil change in the DSG-6 is 6 liters, it is easy to remember the amount is exactly the number of gears.

What kind of oil to fill?

It is best to pour the gear oil recommended by the manufacturer G 052 512 A2, it is sold in liter bottles at a price
from 900 to 1,300 rubles, depending on the region. This product is suitable for manual and robotic transmissions (DSG-7 DQ 200) installed on Audi, Skoda, SEAT and Volkswagen.

Alternatively, some use:

  • FEBI 21829 price from 500 rubles per 1 liter;
  • SWAG 10921829 price from 500 rubles per 1 liter;
  • VAG GCN052512Z2 price from 900 rubles per 1 liter.

Step-by-step instructions for changing the oil yourself

Before proceeding to the description of the actions, in addition to oil, you will need a drain plug; its cost is 170 rubles. From the tools you will need a hexagon on “10”, a syringe with a flexible hose and the actual container where the old oil will drain. This process must be run on a warm transmission. so let's get started:

  1. remove the plastic protection;
  2. unscrew the checkpoint plug;
  3. drain the oil;
  4. twist the cork;
  5. put plastic protection;
  6. remove the cap from the breather;
  7. insert a tube into the hole;
  8. fill in the oil (Important! you need to fill in the oil exactly as much as the old one poured out, because the box is not equipped with a dipstick, you will have to do the calculations yourself);
  9. put the breather cap in place.

That, in principle, is the whole process, which should not cause any particular difficulties and a long time. By the way,

How to change the oil we spied on Alexander Will Willis from Drive2.ru. He has everything clearly explained and shown. A couple of additions from us. If you have never removed the air filter housing, then check in advance how this is done. At 1.8 TSI, to remove it, you need to gently pull up, because. it sits tightly on two landing pins of the battery platform, and there are rubber dampers in the mounting holes of the filter housing. And one moment. We drained 1.7 liters of used oil from the DSG7 box, and filled in all 2 liters.

The oil change in the DSG-7 was made on a run of 76,000 km. What made us do it? Doubts! Doubts that in the constantly contacting parts of the gearbox technical fluid can work the entire life of the car and keep its performance characteristics. 2 warranty years - yes, transmission oil is able to work out. So? And if the machine is used for 5-7 years? We think not. The gearbox oil is not able to work without losing its physical and chemical characteristics for such a long time. Therefore, they made a replacement. The result of the work is below.

According to subjective feelings, we did the oil change procedure not in vain. The box began to switch very softly, barely noticeable.

19.07.2016 After changing the oil in the gearbox, 4 months have passed and 6000 km have been rolled. There were no problems during this time: there were no smudges, fogging, due to pouring 2 liters of oil. The car accelerated 1 time to 200 km. in hour.

Our conclusion: the oil in the mechanical part of the DSG-7 needs to be changed. How often? We believe that once every 60 thousand km.
