Changing the oil in the engine is an essential process for any motorist watching his iron friend. The replacement period is individual for each car, and depends on the operating conditions of the engine, power, and the oil itself.
In a VAZ 21214 Niva car, engine oil changes more often than other members of the VAZ family. Oil according to the weather
First of all, before choosing oil for Niva 21214, pay attention to weather conditions, or rather, to the time of year. For example, in the summer, when it is quite hot outside, the engine will heat up significantly. Unlike cars, the engine of this machine will become much hotter. Therefore, pour mineral or semi-synthetic oil in an SUV engine in the summer is a big mistake.
Lubricating fluid with a small percentage of viscosity will not bring the desired effect. When the cylinder block is heated, the liquid takes on the state of ordinary water, and also heats up very quickly. As a result, the oil stops taking heat from the engine and creating the proper pressure. After some time of such work, crankshaft definitely jam.
For the summer period, it is advised to pour engine oil into Niva 21214, the viscosity of which will be indicated at least 20W-40, and not more than 25W-50. This is the ideal viscosity at which the crankshaft will rotate freely without creating unnecessary load, and the engine temperature will not exceed 95 degrees.

Many motorists have a question: “Is it worth changing the filter after this procedure?”. The answer will be individual for everyone. In general, a standard oil filter is designed for 10 - 12 thousand kilometers, therefore, it easily leaves two fluid changes. But, if there is money, the replacement will not be superfluous. If you change the filter every 5-6 thousand km, the engine will be provided with a long life. So, decide this question, based on your financial capabilities.
Manufacturers
When choosing engine oil, you are often lost, not knowing: “Which one to choose?”. For a long time of using cars, brands have appeared that are famous for their excellent product quality.
Today, the leaders of such brands are manufacturers: Mobil, Xado and Lukoil. They specialize in the production of lubricants for both cars and SUVs. Of course, such oils are quite expensive, and not everyone can afford to pour them into their engine.
So, what kind of oil can you choose from cheaper analogues? Now quite quickly gaining momentum in the world market, manufacturers: Castrol, ZIC, Kixx and Valvoline. Their products are not much inferior in quality to world brands, and are perfect for the Niva 21214 motor. Therefore, if you do not have much finance, you can safely use products from these manufacturers.
From personal experience operation, it is better to change the oil at least every 10,000 km, and sometimes even more often if your Niva is often used off-road and the engine is running at high speeds. The following tools are required to perform an engine oil change:
- Hexagon for unscrewing the drain plug
- Puller oil filter- in the event that it cannot be unscrewed by hand.
The first step is to unscrew the filler cap and remove the dipstick to check the oil level in the engine:

How to prepare for work?

Drain old oil and fill with new
First, remove the dipstick from the filler neck, before unscrewing the plug. Then remove the mudguard that protects the motor. Substitute the prepared container for the old oil - it should be with a margin so that all the oil enters and you do not spill anything. Four or five liters will be enough.
Using a 12 hexagon, it is necessary to unscrew the drain plug, after substituting the prepared container. Wait until the oil has completely drained out without residue and you can proceed to the next task - removing the oil filter. Try to unscrew it by hand, but if you fail, use a special puller. You can also just pierce the old filter with a screwdriver and use it as a lever.
In the purchased new filter, you need to fill in fresh oil halfway and lubricate the threads with sealing gum. Place the filter on the fitting and screw it on with your hands without much effort.
Checking the oil level
Start the engine and let it run for a while until the warning light goes off. low pressure. After that, pull out the dipstick and see what level the oil is at. The dipstick has min and max marks. Check if anything is leaking anywhere. In this case, you will need to tighten the drain plug and oil filter more tightly. If necessary, add oil to the maximum mark, but not higher.
If the car is old or you have not changed the oil for a long time, we recommend flushing the system before filling in new fluid. It also has to be done after an overhaul of the engine. For flushing, you will need a special liquid or a canister of ordinary oil, which will need to be drained almost immediately, and then filled with fresh grease.

An engine oil change in a VAZ 2121 and Niva 2131 car must be carried out according to the technical inspection card or twice a year, immediately before winter season operation and after. In addition to changing the oil, the oil filter must also be replaced, which changes every 10,000 t.km. If it is planned to change the oil to a new brand, then before pouring it into the engine crankcase, the system must be flushed; if the oil of the previous brand is used, then there is no need to flush the system, except in extreme cases when there is obvious dirt or metal chips in the mining . For repair work, prepare a standard set of tools, an empty container for draining mining, new oil and, if necessary, flushing. If you have everything you need, do the following sequence of actions:
- Drive the car onto a viewing hole, overpass or lifts.
- We remove protection engine compartment from the ingress of dirt.
- Next, unscrew the drain plug of the engine crankcase and drain the oil into an empty container. Before draining the oil, it is recommended to warm up the engine, when the oil is hot it flows better from the walls.
- Flush the system according to the instructions for use of the flushing fluid, which is available on the product packaging.
- Now that the oil is drained, you can begin to remove the oil filter. For this, a special key is used. Unscrew it, remove the filter. Before installing a new one, it must be thoroughly impregnated by pouring new oil into it. Then we lubricate the gasket and install the whole thing in its place.
- Open the filler cap of the cylinder head cover and fill in the oil.
- In the process of topping up, we control the level with a dipstick. The normal oil level is when the mark is between the maximum and minimum. Also, level control must be carried out a little later after filling, allowing the oil to drain from the walls.
- After completing the work, start the engine and let it run, then check the oil level again and top up if necessary.
