It's even good that the design has barely been updated. Remembering the "four-eyed" restyled Octavia, you begin to appreciate moderation and conservatism. Yes, there are changes, but they are so delicate that an unprepared person is unlikely to notice them.

Before getting behind the wheel, I dive into the second row to make sure that there are a pair of power USB connectors (optional) on the central tunnel, which the modernized Rapid got hold of. True, these connectors cannot be combined with the rear sofa heating - either one or the other. Or nothing at all. Strange logic. But it's spacious. Plenty of space both along and across. Compared to Rapid Lada Vesta, Hyundai Solaris and co-platform Volkswagen Polo in loss.

I move into the driver's seat and look around in dismay: the Czechs claimed to have made a lot of changes in the cabin, but I don't see any innovations! Is it really difficult to introduce lighting into the visors, and to provide ceiling handles with microlifts? The steering wheel is beautiful and sheathed in leather, but the seams are too rough, uncomfortable for the fingers. And there is no place to put a phone.

But in terms of equipment, progress is still noticeable. Inexperienced drivers will appreciate the appearance of front parking sensors. Everyone, without exception, will like the flagship multimedia system, the screen size of which has increased to 6.5 inches. In addition, it now supports the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto protocols - in the age of smartphones, you can’t do without it. In Europe, the owners of the updated Rapids will receive an Internet access point, but our cars will not receive it. We will not have adaptive cruise control and automatic braking in front of an obstacle.

The Czechs managed to change the interior in such a way that innovations can only be seen if you have a picture of the old interior in front of you.

I had no problem choosing a test car - I asked for the keys to a 1.4-liter 125-horsepower turbo version. The rest of the modifications did not interest me - they are not represented with us. What can I say - such a Rapid rides smartly, justifying its name (translated from English - fast, high-speed). The motor confidently pulls in a wide range of revolutions, and the 7-speed DSG robot with two clutches seems to have been taught to switch without jerking. Well-balanced power unit.

But the chassis left a double impression. On the highway Skoda Rapid 2017 rushes collected, like a sniper bullet. And in the corners it doesn’t stew - it willingly rises to an arc and quickly reacts to pressing the accelerator pedal. Too bad the suspension is too stiff. Even on excellent German pavement, Skoda finds bumps, thereby perplexing the crew. The platform Volkswagen Polo is more comfortable on the go.

The breakdowns are minor: the thermostat broke down on a run of 800 km. I replaced it myself with the original (2,000 r). At 15,000 km, the stabilizer lever rattled - I also replaced it. I don’t go to MOT (on previous machines, too, never). Oil - Opel GM 5W-40, the same specification as the native Volkswagen (which is 2.5 times more expensive) every 10,000 km.

For 2 years ran 40,000 km. There are no crickets. Handling dynamics is mediocre. I go, I do not regret for 2 years.
