And this problem has not been solved to this day! The spring has stretched turns far from each other. When such a suspension is compressed, the spring bar is subjected to excessive twisting, excessive overstressing of the metal, as a result, less plasticity and, at the same time, elasticity in compression. Such springs lose their load resistance properties very quickly. they just as quickly sit down, reducing the already small ground clearance.

Having a length of 5.3 to 6.75 turns, depending on the clearance at the request of the customer.

These springs have a cylindrical shape with a bar thickness of 13 mm and with a number of 6 turns they have 5 working turns.
Cylindrical springs along the entire length have equal characteristics loading on coils, unlike barrel-shaped ones, which were invented to save metal.
Barrel-shaped have a small diameter at the base and a large diameter in the center. Such a spring works mainly due to its central part. Where the coil decreases in diameter, the spring works much less with an equal load on the coil. In turn, this barrel-shaped spring is more vulnerable to loading and coils of small diameter sag faster over time, reducing the clearance, another such springs are able to break off on a small coil.
In this case, the coil spring compares favorably with its performance from the stock one, it has a larger number of working coils, when compressed, the resistance increases in direct proportion to the load, preventing breakdown of the suspension. Such a spring with a slightly smaller diameter quickly calms down without phantom vibrations. Therefore, there will be no swing.
By adding a normal pillow with a bandage to the design instead of the stock rubber, we get a very good result. Softness + better sound insulation.

Factory stock rear suspension springs have 6.25 turns of which 4.75 are working turns. Bar thickness is 10.5mm on 2012 models after the February 11mm upgrade. with the same number of turns. Why few turns? There is little space for the spring itself due to the compactness of the suspension, to prevent the coils from touching. But is this an excuse for the end user? Especially the first 10.5mm springs are very weak. Even with a small load on the car, breakdowns of the rear suspension are a constant thing. And if you load it to the maximum, the car will simply knock on the bumpers endlessly, while you can move if only very slowly.

Of course, the number of working turns of 4.75 is extremely insufficient. as well as the thickness of the rod itself. The spring is very similar in performance to the front spring. It is not elastic enough, and with a larger bar thickness, it is not plastic enough. Studying these indicators, I came to the conclusion that the best that can be installed is the prepared VAZ 08 springs with rubber bands from the 06 front suspension with the top and 08 pillows from the bottom. And also in the set "Carrier" the rear spring of the VAZ 2106 of the VAZ production is used. The number of spring turns is from 8 to 8.8 with 6.6-7 working turns. The spring is cylindrical with a smaller diameter than the stock one. but it installs just sitting tight. Works silently. It has progressive features. At low speed the suspension is very soft. But with an increase in stroke with a greater compression of the spring, its resistance sharply increases, thereby preventing the suspension from breaking through. Also, when loading, the depreciation readings remain on top. Both empty and loaded car are equally comfortable. At speed, small things are overcome in flight and large obstacles do not break through the soda suspension, only a slight push that does not affect handling. With these springs, the suspension has less tendency to bounce.

At the moment, I have completely developed the design of one; I make it from the front stabilizer VAZ 2108-2110, which is fastened with clamps to the beam with the ends to special fasteners twisted to the spring cup. Factory upgrade

With the advent of problems with the buildup of the stern at Solaris, the designers installed stiffer shock absorbers on the back of the car. The first shock absorbers are the softest and have the designation L-000; the second shock absorbers are designated L-001; they are now marked with a yellow mark; the shock absorbers are 10% stiffer in compression. This was after the August 2011 modernization.

The rear suspension began to sway less on the waves, but still the vibrations remained, as did the breakdown of the suspension, and stability improved only slightly. The same shock absorbers began to be installed on the first Kia Rio models. By emphasizing that there will be no problems with the suspension with the KIA-Rio. Kia is not Solaris. Although this is not so, the base is absolutely the same. And the problem came to light a little later when the owners tasted the car on the go. But it really is, except for the rear shock absorbers, nothing has changed in the design.After another complaint from the consumer, another attempt was made to modernize the Solaris suspension and already the Kia Rio. This Modernization is usually called after the February. As I predicted, the Constructors took the simple path. clamped down rear shock absorbers making them more rigid in compression and in tension. Such shock absorbers received the designation L-002, they began to apply a green mark.

The front dampers are also set to be stiffer in compression. If the first racks had a groove on which the pillow was put on and did not turn, then the usual threads were installed on the later racks and the pillows simply had a regular hole. Another difference, if the rack of the first issues was attached to the top with a plate with a thin rubber band that did not touch the body, then after the February version it already had a thicker rubber band pressing the plate to the body while holding the rack tightly. In the first versions, there was a gap, and when a jump or a deep hole was made, the stand rattled while hanging on the plate. On the other hand, a not tightly pressed plate made it possible to transmit less vibration from the engine and transmission to the body. And also had a more silent operation of the suspension in the usual aisles. The new suspension has become stiffer and noisier in relation to the first two. They also installed rear springs with a larger bar thickness of 11mm instead of 10.5 on the first models. Considering that the same number of turns remained, the suspension became oak. If the first Solaris could be easily shaken by hand, then after February it was simply not possible to push the stern of the car, even at first the owners boasted of this. But a car not UAZ. Rear suspension breakdowns have decreased, the car has become more stable due to greater rigidity. Shock absorbers began to dampen all vibrations. But the fact is that "Solaris and Kia" are fairly light cars when driving on small bumps in the suspension, they practically do not work, depreciation comes from rubber.
Although on the highway at high speed, the car began to stand much better, to the detriment of comfort. The noise from the suspension was also added, because now the shock absorbers began to work and resist the advanced pushes on the body in compression. After some time, it turned out that the front suspension breaks through almost the same way as on the first models. In windy weather, it is difficult for a lighter car to keep on a given trajectory.

And of course, the experts presented the suspension in the best possible way at the training ground, where even the tractor will hold the road perfectly at speed. aligned waves are not joints, not small irregularities from which the cabin is filled with a roar and the fifth point reads small things. especially it gets on the track.

And I have proven this time and time again. By my example and by those who followed my advice. Solaris was labeled weak in the suspension of the car. What is the difference between such an upgrade. It seemed that an additional 1 mm of the rod should make the suspension tighter and more resistant to the realities of our roads. Instead of the standard 12 mm and later 12.2 mm, the spring bar has become thicker, namely 13 mm. But the shape of the spring remained the same, moreover, the spring was made lower. It is lower than the first sample by 10 mm and still the same 3.5 working turns. But the declared ground clearance of 160mm was preserved.

By strengthening the spring, they made it shorter. What's the secret? Suspension settings remain the same. If the spring of the previous version was more charged in a higher tension, now, in view of the shorter spring, the suspension has the same travel, only it has become stiffer in addition. The ancestor now reads small things well. That installed cambric at the bottom of the spring damper makes the suspension a little quieter, but comfort suffers greatly from stiffness. And suspension breakdowns remained the same as they were. After all, miracles do not happen in this course of the suspension, it is impossible to make the suspension stable and comfortable. Well, if you do not raise it, thereby add one and a half to two centimeters of clearance, which is so lacking when hitting an obstacle. At one time, your obedient servant cut not an ode to a pair of springs. And I did the same in the stock version with a spring of 13 mm thick bar. The suspension breaks. So if you change something, you need to completely rework the suspension kinematics and use struts with a long travel. But it is not easy and it requires investment. The latest improvement is a step back. A shorter spring does not solve the problem, and stability worsens because when the strut is opened, the top turns out to be empty, hence when turning rolls, in windy weather, unstable straight line retention. Well, we ourselves will improve the suspension. Moreover, it is not difficult to do this. Cylindrical springs along the entire length have equal loading characteristics on coils, unlike barrel springs, which were invented to save metal.
Barrel-shaped have a small diameter at the base and a large diameter in the center. Such a spring works mainly due to its central part. In turn, this barrel-shaped spring is more vulnerable to loading and coils of small diameter sag faster over time, reducing the clearance, another such springs are able to break off on a small coil.
In this case, the coil spring compares favorably with its performance from the stock one, it has a larger number of working coils, when compressed, the resistance increases in direct proportion to the load, preventing breakdown of the suspension. Factory upgrade

With the advent of problems with the buildup of the stern at Solaris, the designers installed stiffer shock absorbers on the back of the car. The first shock absorbers are the softest and have the designation L-000; the second shock absorbers are designated L-001; they are now marked with a yellow mark; the shock absorbers are 10% stiffer in compression. This was after the August 2011 modernization.

The rear suspension began to sway less on the waves, but still the vibrations remained, as did the breakdown of the suspension, and stability improved only slightly. The same shock absorbers began to be installed on the first Kia Rio models. By emphasizing that there will be no problems with the suspension with the KIA-Rio. Kia is not Solaris. Although this is not so, the base is absolutely the same. And the problem came to light a little later when the owners tasted the car on the go. On tests in the magazine "Behind the wheel" They complained about the lack of intelligibility of control. But it really is, except for the rear shock absorbers, nothing has changed in the design. After another complaint from the consumer, another attempt was made to modernize the Solaris suspension and already the Kia Rio. This Modernization is usually called after the February. As I predicted, the Constructors took the simple path. Clamped the rear shock absorbers making them more rigid in compression and tension. Such shock absorbers received the designation L-002, they began to apply a green mark.

The front dampers are also set to be stiffer in compression. If the first racks had a groove on which the pillow was put on and did not turn, then the usual threads were installed on the later racks and the pillows simply had a regular hole. Another difference, if the rack of the first issues was attached to the top with a plate with a thin rubber band that did not touch the body, then after the February version it already had a thicker rubber band pressing the plate to the body while holding the rack tightly. In the first versions, there was a gap, and when a jump or a deep hole was made, the stand rattled while hanging on the plate. On the other hand, a not tightly pressed plate made it possible to transmit less vibration from the engine and transmission to the body. And also had a more silent operation of the suspension in the usual aisles. The new suspension has become stiffer and noisier in relation to the first two. They also installed rear springs with a larger bar thickness of 11mm instead of 10.5 on the first models. Considering that the same number of turns remained, the suspension became oak. If the first Solaris could be easily shaken by hand, then after February it was simply not possible to push the stern of the car, even at first the owners boasted of this. But a passenger car is not a UAZ. Rear suspension breakdowns have decreased, the car has become more stable due to greater rigidity. Shock absorbers began to dampen all vibrations. But the fact is that "Solaris and Kia" are fairly light cars when driving on small bumps in the suspension, they practically do not work, depreciation comes from rubber.
Although on the highway at high speed, the car began to stand much better, to the detriment of comfort. The noise from the suspension was also added, because now the shock absorbers began to work and resist the advanced pushes on the body in compression. After some time, it turned out that the front suspension breaks through almost the same way as on the first models. In windy weather, it is difficult for a lighter car to keep on a given trajectory.

And of course, the experts presented the suspension in the best possible way at the training ground, where even the tractor will hold the road perfectly at speed. aligned waves are not joints, not small irregularities from which the cabin is filled with a roar and the fifth point reads small things. especially it gets on the track.

Take a ride on a patched road where there are pits and bumps and rose-colored glasses will quickly fly off. The suspension should work out small things well. keeping the lever from breakdown on serious obstacles. a car of this category with such a suspension deserves the best! And I have proven this time and time again. By my example and by those who followed my advice. Solaris was labeled weak in the suspension of the car. And an explanation like what do you want for that kind of money? And everyone fell for it? Doesn't this car deserve better? Is it not possible to bring the chassis to mind in the form in which it already exists? I will say that more is needed. And those who have already done it do not get heavy about it a little. How many bells and whistles that are essentially necessary are put on a car, paying huge sums without changing the essence. After all, a car is first of all a movement, this movement must be confident, accurate and predictable. It should give pleasure, so that the owner feels completely confident behind the wheel, so that the car is not a jellyfish Gorgon dancing on the road and is not a stool that shakes out the intestines. The car must be completely subordinate to the driver, then and only then it will be a safe car. Merging into one whole with the car, it is as if he feels the road with his hands, choosing the desired trajectory of movement. Maneuvers, overtaking, rearrangements should all take place in flight. So that when performing a maneuver, the driver clearly feels the situation, and at the right time makes the necessary decision so that his actions do not lead to loss of control. 07/14/2014 More than three years have passed and things are still there. An attempt at another improvement. The front suspension of Solaris and Kia Rio is now equipped with "Reinforced" springs. What is the difference between such an upgrade. It seemed that an additional 1 mm of the rod should make the suspension tighter and more resistant to the realities of our roads. Instead of the standard 12 mm and later 12.2 mm, the spring bar has become thicker, namely 13 mm. But the shape of the spring remained the same, moreover, the spring was made lower. It is lower than the first sample by 10 mm and still the same 3.5 working turns. But the declared ground clearance of 160mm was preserved.

By strengthening the spring, they made it shorter. What's the secret? Suspension settings remain the same. If the spring of the previous version was more charged in a higher tension, now, in view of the shorter spring, the suspension has the same travel, only it has become stiffer in addition. The ancestor now reads small things well. That installed cambric at the bottom of the spring damper makes the suspension a little quieter, but comfort suffers greatly from stiffness. And suspension breakdowns remained the same as they were. After all, miracles do not happen in this course of the suspension, it is impossible to make the suspension stable and comfortable. Well, if you do not raise it, thereby add one and a half to two centimeters of clearance, which is so lacking when hitting an obstacle. At one time, your obedient servant cut not an ode to a pair of springs. And I did the same in the stock version with a spring of 13 mm thick bar. The suspension breaks. Declared 160mm in fact, the suspension leaves 80 mm of compression)))) And then bang! And at speed, even when the car is not loaded, this is a direct breakdown with a blow to the entire body. It lacks quite a bit of some 20mm, and then even if there is a breakdown, but on a serious obstacle, and it will only be a touch and not a blow with a sledgehammer. Therefore, all the kits that I offer have a degree of suspension travel reserve for breakdown. from 15 to 28 mm. In this kinematics with these racks, this is the best option. So if you change something, you need to completely rework the suspension kinematics and use struts with a long travel. But it is not easy and it requires investment. The latest improvement is a step back. A shorter spring does not solve the problem, and stability worsens because when the strut is opened, the top turns out to be empty, hence when turning rolls, in windy weather, unstable straight line retention. Well, we ourselves will improve the suspension. Moreover, it is not difficult to do this. Otherwise, both Solaris and Kia Rio are very good cars, many nodes run for a long time, but more on that in another section. Something like that.

Is there an alternative? Yes, she is! And it is time-tested by many months of testing.

Mando? Well, then everything is clear, ”out of the corner of my ear I hear the conversation of colleagues at the next table. Indeed, the name of the Korean supplier of these components, so sonorous to the Russian ear, fully reflected the quality of the suspension of the first Solaris. On a bad road, the back of the car jumped like a ball, and any road bumps were transmitted to the cabin with a loud knock.

The rear of the car chattered on bumps, and each bump resounded with a loud thud. On the track, in order to move a given course at high speed, you literally had to cling to the steering wheel. According to reviews on specialized Internet forums, the owners began to pay attention to the poor performance of the suspension immediately after the purchase: it forced many to file complaints with the Russian representative office of the company. After an angry feedback from Hyundai owners made changes to the design, reworking not only the rear, but also the front suspension.

In general, its design has not changed (McPherson struts, rear - semi-independent, spring suspension). The soft springs have been replaced with stiffer and more energy-intensive ones, the rear and front Mando shocks have been replaced with new ones with greater resistance. True, the manufacturer has not changed.

We are heading 100 km from Moscow, to the Kaluga region - away from flat roads. On broken regional roads, you can better understand how the handling of the Solaris has changed on the track.

The fact that the suspension was made stiffer clearly benefited the Korean car. The buildup has disappeared, the car has become more stable on a straight line, does not scour the rut, and small bumps and potholes in the asphalt no longer bother the driver and passengers. Steering responses became clear and adequate. In a word, in a large city or on a highway in the Moscow region, driving a Solaris is a pleasure.

Singing praises of the new springs does not interfere even with poor sound insulation (it is not in the wheel arches at all, because of this, driving at high speeds resembles a liner on takeoff). However, here Hyundai can be understood: the use of more expensive material will lead to an increase in prices.

We managed to check the suspension on an average Russian road in the vicinity of the town of Borovsk. Unlike the highway of the same name near Moscow, on which some drivers like to squeeze all the juice out of the car, in the city of Old Believers and the young Tsiolkovsky, the roadway seems to be repaired only for big holidays.

It turned out that the Solaris thumps with its whole body into large pits, causing everything that is poorly fixed in the cabin to rattle and jump, including the driver and passengers. If such a route runs from home to work, it is better not to take coffee and drinks in glasses with you.

Once on the road with a lot of bumps, the steering wheel lost adequate feedback, it became more difficult to understand where the front wheels were leading. To move a given course at high speed, you literally have to cling to the steering wheel. Hands with such a ride get tired after a few kilometers. The conclusion that can be drawn from this is to control the speed on the track within reasonable limits.

Otherwise (design, interior, equipment) Solaris remained the same as a year ago.

But if Hyundai managed to solve the suspension problem, then it is not yet possible to achieve adequate engine operation and a four-speed automatic from Solaris. Even in the case of a more powerful 1.6-liter Gamma engine with 123 hp. With. when you sharply press the gas pedal, the engine “goes into itself” (on the highway, this happened approximately in the middle of a standard truck). The driver loses the necessary acceleration and sluggishly, strainingly bypasses the slug.

What, then, to expect from a less powerful 1.4-liter 107-horsepower engine?

Since the start of sales of the first Solaris in February 2011, the model has firmly won the status of the best-selling foreign car.

For a year and a half, the car has risen in price by a total of 66 thousand rubles (from 379 thousand to 445 thousand rubles). In the basic version, the buyer is offered power steering, front power windows and central locking. ABS and distribution systems braking force not here, and the stabilization system and six airbags (including side curtains) are offered only in Comfort (for an additional charge of 25 thousand rubles) and Family, with base prices from 523 thousand and 624 thousand rubles, respectively, and the stabilization system is turned off only partially - it is possible to deactivate only the traction control system.

Direct competitor of Solaris, Kia Rio that appeared on Russian market in September 2011, costs 34,900 more in the basic configuration. At the same time, technically, the cars are completely identical. True, Kia already has ABS in the base with a brake force distribution system.
