How to determine the average speed of a freelander 2. TD4 diesel engine

Land Rover Freelander 2 has been in production since 2006. This crossover was already significantly different from the first generation, they had nothing in common except for the name. The quality is enough good SUV. Front and rear are equipped with two rigid subframes. Reliable in operation and easy to repair independent suspension. Four-wheel drive and a reliable diesel engine proven over the years.

However, whatever the car, the engine resource is not eternal, the suspension also fails. The duration of this depends on the operating conditions and regular maintenance. We will tell you what problems and weaknesses Land can have Rover Freelander 2, what you should pay attention to and what the purchase of a second Freelander with mileage is fraught with.

Pros and cons Freelander 2 with mileage

Engine

Crossovers came off the assembly line with both gasoline and diesel engines.

Car on gasoline Russian roads quite difficult to meet. Released a few of them. One of the problems with variety gasoline unit lies in high fuel consumption - 15-17 liters per 100 km. Otherwise, the gasoline power unit has no problems. The main requirement is refueling quality fuel and regular maintenance.

The gas pump, like all gasoline cars, cools naturally, and in order not to have to buy a new one, you need to constantly keep half a tank of fuel, especially in summer.

The diesel version turned out to be more popular, which showed its best side and won the hearts of many owners of this SUV.

Diesel engine advantages:

  1. High reliability;
  2. The lowest fuel consumption among classmates;
  3. Quiet enough.

Yes, and it's true - the motor of the second generation Freelander goes in conjunction with the turbine, and it works unusually quietly. It is almost inaudible in the cabin.

Most main disadvantage diesel engine is shown in winter. It consists in poor starting in winter, especially when refueling with low-quality fuel. On cars of the first years of production, the exhaust camshaft constantly fails.

There is another major drawback fuel system- condensation accumulates in the pipes and freezes. As a result dashboard may give errors. Also, freezing of the fuel system occurs in hard frost.

Therefore, intending to purchase such a used car, it is worth asking the owner if the camshaft was replaced, otherwise there is a great chance of encountering expensive repairs. Refueling a car with low-quality diesel fuel leads to rapid wear of fuel injectors, the price of which is quite high. One of the problems is poor quality and unprofessional service. For replacement oil filter a special key is required, due to the lack of which the service station specialists simply do not perform the replacement.

Transmission

The Land Rover Freelander has no particular problems with the transmission, except that the clutch is not fully reliable. In the first versions of the crossover, the clutch had to be changed almost every 60 thousand km, but over time, the manufacturer eliminated this shortcoming, increasing the service life by 2 times.

Most SUVs are equipped with a 6-speed manual. There are no problems with it, but with the machine, things are completely different. This box was not famous for its particular reliability, especially in the first batches of cars. After some time of operation, various slips and jerks appeared. After 150 thousand km, the machine requires expensive repairs.

The main problems with the box arise mainly due to harsh operating conditions and frequent off-road driving.

The all-wheel drive system is quite reliable. The main drawback is the unfortunate location of the ECU by the clutch. They placed it under the bottom, so exposure to water and road chemicals leads to rapid wear and replacement. And its price is quite high. The service life is about 70 thousand km.

Chassis

Some owners of this SUV complain about the short service life of the wheel bearings. They go about 100 thousand km, and they are relatively inexpensive. Most often, the suspension repair of the second Freelander is required after 150 thousand km. By this time, it is necessary to replace the CV joint, silent blocks, ball bearings. The steering rack is quite reliable, there are no complaints, but if there is a backlash or tapping, it is better to replace it immediately. Stabilizer struts serve approximately 50 thousand km.

In general, the Freelander 2 has no problems with the suspension, it is very strong and the service life is acceptable for an SUV.

Finally

The first models had many weaknesses and ended up costing a lot. Over time, they were finalized and a restyled model was released, which differed greatly in reliability. However, it should be borne in mind that after 150 thousand km you will have to spend a lot on repairs and troubleshooting. The first thing that may require repair is the box and gearbox.

In general, this is a fairly strong and comfortable crossover with high cross-country ability and compactness, but, of course, not without flaws.

Disadvantages:

  1. Small resource of work of an automatic box;
  2. Quite expensive service;
  3. The rubber bands of silent blocks wear out quickly.

Advantages:

  1. High cross-country ability, excellent off-road qualities;
  2. Low consumption of diesel fuel;
  3. High-quality interior trim;
  4. Comfortable and high seating position.

It should be noted that for trouble-free operation, professionalism and timeliness of service are important. fuel quality, engine oil and other fluids, spare parts and repairs performed. By following the maintenance regulations and conducting regular diagnostics, you will not only extend the life of the crossover, but also get reliable car. The Immotors car service will help you with this. We are a specialized Land Rover auto repair center in Moscow. We will eliminate all existing Freelander problems quickly and efficiently.

Land Rover Freelander the second generation appeared in 2006, and before this year, since 1997, the first generation was produced, which cannot be called a reliable car.

Now we will analyze the 2nd generation on possible problems in operation and it will be seen whether the updated car has become better than its predecessor.

The steel body of the Freelander is made, in the British way, to the conscience - from high-quality metal, most of the parts are electroplated. Such a body is too tough for rust. True, body electrical appliances are poorly protected from dampness - there have been cases that after about 4 years the rear wiper motor jammed, due to dirt getting into it, such a new motor will cost 150 euros.

It happens that corrosion forms on the contacts in the trunk release button, after which tailgate electric lock starts to act up. The same can happen with other doors in the car.

Optional brake light leaking, and water gets into the trunk, and all because of a weak seal. Even the sunroof leaks on cars made before 2008. Then a revision was made, after which this problem was fixed. And inside the taillights, near the bulbs, the plastic melts after a certain period of operation.

In the cabin as a whole, everything is done soundly, there are no squeaks even on early models. The leather on the steering wheel can become bald over time, the pads on the central pillars are also rubbed with seat belts.

Engines

Most Freelanders come with 2.2 liter turbodiesel DW12. In early cars fuel injectors they could not stand it for a long time and demanded replacement, but they cost a lot - 450 euros for each. After about 80,000 km. can jam a Bosch fuel pump, a new one costs 1200 euros. There have also been cases that a rather expensive (250 euros) exhaust camshaft burst. And in especially neglected cases, the timing belt was torn, the valves were bent, the cylinder head, along with the pistons, were deformed. To repair such a running engine, you need to spend several thousand euros. So, when you buy a Freelander with mileage, you should definitely look in the service book, and if it says that the high pressure fuel pump and camshaft were replaced under warranty, then this is a great success.

Sometimes it happens: on-board computer indicates that the engine is faulty, and the car emits a lot of smoke, this means that the problem is not in the engine, but in the intake manifold. One of the most enduring parts of the Freelander is considered to be a turbocharger, although it is expensive - 1,500 euros, but if you change the air filter regularly, it can easily withstand 200,000 km. run. As for the air cooler and intercooler pipes, they fail quite regularly - every 80,000 km, due to the fact that they lose their tightness. And after 100,000 km. usually the drive on the air damper of the intake manifold wears out badly. In terms of costs, intercooler pipes cost about 100 euros, air cooler - 160 euros, automated air damper- 120 euros.

The Freelanders, who have served for about 8 years or traveled 120,000 km. the main radiator, which costs 320 euros, may leak, and oil will flow through the crankshaft seals.

In winter, owners of diesel Freelanders are waiting for a junky Webasto pre-heater. It happens that this happens due to failures in the control module, but in most cases it's all about the burner, if you change it, the problem will be solved, it costs about 150 euros. After 80,000 km, it is necessary to change the glow plugs, it is important to unscrew the candles carefully so as not to break the thread, which can be soured, then you will not have to repair the cylinder head.

Diesel engines are various capacities: from 150 to 190 l. from. But in terms of reliability, all diesel engines are about the same.
Gasoline engines are free from so many problems. During restyling in 2012 appeared new turbocharged engine from Ford from the EcoBoost line with a volume of 2 liters. Such an engine can be found on only 6% of Freelanders. So far, this motor has no diseases. The only thing is that the engine requires cleanliness and the use of high-quality gasoline.

There is also a 3.2 liter, 6-cylinder Volvo engine, which is installed in 5% of cars. This engine is also reliable, despite the fact that it consumes more fuel. There is a chain in the gas distribution drive that does not stretch even after 300,000 km. run.

But there are some troubles with such a motor in Freelanders older than 2008 - the crankcase ventilation system uses an oil separator integrated into the valve cover. This design is not particularly successful, because the exhaust of the oil crankcase ventilation system clogs up quickly enough and the engine becomes “sweaty” from oil in all places. In especially advanced cases the engine can squeeze out the seals.

In order not to have to buy a new fuel pump, which costs 300 euros, it is advisable to keep 30-40 liters of gasoline in the gas tank. In the heat, this gasoline will cool the submersible unit that is in the tank; without cooling, it will not be able to function for a long time.

Transmission

Quite rare manual transmission 6 speed Getrag Ford M66 has good durability and performance. Such a box is installed on only 7% of cars, it is completed in diesel versions of Freelanders. Unless the clutch is not strong enough - early versions of cars required clutch replacement after 60,000 km. But the developers made an upgrade, after which the clutch began to withstand 120,000 km. Replacing this node will cost 200 euros.

And most cars (93%) have a 6-speed automatic transmission Aisin Warner AWF21, which after some time twitches and slips appeared. Especially such cases were on the machines of the first batches and these boxes were changed under warranty. And in 2008, a service company was launched to replace or repair these boxes. In general, such a transmission is quite strong and can withstand 250,000 km. mileage without major repairs.

The main weak link in this box is reverse gear, its replacement will cost 1300 euros. At first, a strange hum appeared after accelerating over 60 km / h on cars whose mileage exceeded 60,000 km. If the car was still under warranty, the dealers would replace the entire gearbox. But in cars produced after restyling in 2010, a hum also appeared after 100,000 km. But under warranty, the entire box is now not changed, but only the bearings are replaced.

More noise may appear after about 130,000 km. from wheel bearings: two rear ones will cost 100 euros, and the front ones come with the hub in one unit - 300 euros for 2 such knots.

And if after about 180,000 km. will appear rattle or crunch when starting the car from a place, then it's all about the front gearbox, or rather, its angular gear. If oil leaks appear on the gearbox, this means that it is time to change worn oil seals. cardan shaft and drives. Cardan shaft up to 180,000 km. does not create problems, but after that vibrations or shocks may appear, then this is a clear sign that it is time to change it. Replacing the cardan will cost 550 euros.

So that the clutches in the multi-plate clutch drive rear axle served longer must not be forgotten every 50,000 km. change oil and filter. True, this will not eliminate the failure of the oil pump of this clutch, it can also fail due to the ingress of dirt, the electronic unit management, and it costs a lot - 500 euros.

Freelander 2 suspension

What does not create significant problems is the suspension, but on post-styling cars. Early models suffered from the fact that on the front suspension after 70,000 km. strut support bearings were broken, their replacement costs 40 euros, and after 40,000 km. required replacement of external steering tips, each of which costs 35 euros.

The Land Rover Freelander is your entrance ticket to the world of royal cars. This vehicle is the younger brother of the world famous premium SUV. This relationship has a positive effect not only on popularity, but also on quality and off-road performance. What's more, buying a used Land Rover Freelander comes with far fewer potential problems than buying the flagships of the royal car line. But let's talk about everything in order.

A bit of history:

Land Rover did not immediately dare to release a small parquet SUV, despite the fact that crossovers were gaining more and more popularity in the 90s. Fans of the English car industry tend to justify such a decision by the manufacturer's unwillingness to spoil its image by selling a not quite full-fledged SUV. In fact, it's all to blame financial difficulties: MG Rover, which owned the Land Rover brand, simply did not have the financial capacity to develop and launch a fundamentally new car for itself. Therefore, the first Freelander appeared only in 1997, when he had more than enough competitors.

The first generation of the car was made in a five-door version, but in 1999 a three-door crossover was also introduced. The second generation of the model was presented in July 2006 at the London Motor Show, which was produced at the plant in Halwood. In addition to the exterior and interior, the range of power units has also been updated. In 2010, the car underwent a slight restyling, during which the main emphasis was placed on improving the technical part of the car. IN updated version Land Rover Freelander began to be equipped with new engines, in which the level of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere was reduced, as well as to reduce fuel consumption.

Advantages and disadvantages of Land Rover Freelander 2 with mileage

Land Rover Freelander 2 can be equipped with both gasoline and diesel power units - gasoline 3.2 (233 hp); diesel 2.2 (150-160 and 190 hp). The most widespread diesel engine, and as operating experience has shown, he won popular recognition for a reason. In addition to the fact that the motor is very reliable, it also has the smallest consumption among crossovers. Average consumption this engine is only 7 liters per hundred. In addition, we are used to the fact that the diesel engine is usually noisy, but this model is a rare exception in this component, since the turbo engine is very quiet here, and it is almost inaudible in the cabin. Of the standard diesel shortcomings, there is only one, and that is exclusively winter. The car may not start well in cold weather, if before that you refueled with low-quality diesel fuel. In connection with design features, on cars of the first years of production, the exhaust camshaft was destroyed, fortunately, this drawback is not found on all cars.

When choosing a car manufactured in 2006-2008, check with the owner if he changed the camshaft under warranty, if this procedure was not carried out, there is a big risk of getting into expensive repairs. Repair to replace the camshaft costs 1500-2000 USD. Also, do not forget to pay attention to the condition of the timing belt. If the previous owner refueled with low-quality fuel, there is a high probability that you will have to change fuel injectors, the original ones will cost 1000 USD. piece, not the original - from 200 c.u. In our harsh operating conditions, the engine must be serviced at least once every 10,000 km. Changing the oil filter is quite difficult, plus you need a special key to remove it, so many masters in garage service stations do not change the filter ( be extremely careful). Also, the motor does not like air starvation, be sure to monitor the condition air filter and an air flow sensor (installed on the air filter housing).

Land Rover Freelander with gasoline engines on the secondary market very rare, as even new they are sold very little. The main reason for low sales is big expense fuel, in the city, on average, comes out 15-17 liters per hundred. In terms of reliability, there are no complaints about the gasoline engine. The power unit developed by the company and has been installed on a number of cars for a long time. Do not forget that the fuel pump, like most cars, cools naturally (immersed in the gas tank), so do not let the tank be low on fuel in the warm season (try to have at least half a tank of gasoline in the heat).

Transmission

Paired with a diesel engine can be a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission, with a gasoline engine - only automatic transmission. Operating experience has shown that mechanical transmission very reliable, as a result, calls to the service to eliminate any malfunctions are rare. But there are complaints about the reliability of the automatic transmission, so, in particular, gear changes occur with jerks and jerks. According to statistics, every second box requires serious investment after 150,000 km. In order to somehow calm the indignation of the owners, a service company was launched in 2008, under the terms of which, on cars serviced at a company service station, the box was changed with a run of more than 100,000 km even without signs of malfunction. The promotion ended in July 2010.

The Land Rover Freelander all-wheel drive system is implemented using a Haldex clutch. This system is very reliable, the only thing that gives trouble is the electronic clutch control unit. This happens due to its unfortunate location (on the bottom of the car), as a result, all the dirt and reagents get on it. This block is quite expensive - 600-700 USD, and its resource is only 60-80 thousand km.

Problem areas suspension Land Rover Freelander 2

The chassis of the car has a decent level of comfort and, paired with electronic systems, is the pride of Land Rover. MacPherson type suspension with powerful longitudinal and transverse forged levers is installed front and rear. The levers are mounted on a powerful subframe to increase the rigidity of the structure and get rid of unwanted vibrations. Reinforced anti-roll bar in the front suspension roll stability, which improves handling on the track. If you first see the car from below, it may seem that this is not a crossover, but a full-fledged SUV, everything is so thoroughly done. Thanks to the reinforced chassis design, the Land Rover Freelander has no weak points in the suspension.

Even if you storm off-road, the elements of the suspension pass for a very long time: the bushings and stabilizer struts go at least 50,000 km, the lower rear levers have to be changed every 60-80 thousand km, shock absorbers and thrust bearings serve 100,000 km or more (from 80 USD ., PCS.). Closer to 150,000 km, it will be necessary to change CV joints, ball bearings, silent blocks and wheel bearings. The steering rack is not trouble spot, but if she still started to tap, she will have to be replaced as an assembly with internal steering tips, the replacement cost is 800-1000 USD. After 150,000 km, the gearbox bearings begin to buzz, repairs will cost 200-350 USD.

Salon

Interior decoration, compared with older brothers, is modest, but the materials are enough good quality and retain their original appearance for a long time. On cars with a mileage of 100,000 km or more, the interior looks almost like new. The only thing that can give out mileage is the cracked sidewalls of the front seats, this happens after 150-200 thousand km.

Like most modern crossovers, the Land Rover Freelander has a large number of electronic systems: driver and passenger seat adjustment, all-wheel drive mode selection system, electronic parking brake, etc. But unlike competitors, this model has no problems with electronics. Power windows are equipped with a learning system, and if you remove the terminal from the battery, the settings will be lost. To reconfigure the system, you need to: while holding the button, lower the glass and hold the button for 5-10 seconds, then do 3-4 long presses to the down button. Next, holding the button up, raise the glass, after the glass rises, hold the button for 5-10 seconds, then make 3-4 long presses on the "up" button.

Outcome:

Land Rover Freelander 2 is a high-quality, comfortable and fairly reliable car. And if you need compact crossover with good cross without unnecessary show-off, then this car will not disappoint you.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your review that will help readers of our site when choosing a car.

Sincerely, editorial Autoavenue

Part 4. 200000

Good day to all. There was a round number on the odometer, I decided to write another review.

About auto.

Let me remind you that the car was bought new, in May 2011 from the OD, in Moscow, for 1.4 million rubles. In the second complete set with additionally installed some options. I am one owner.

Weekend car. I traveled on it almost all of central Russia from Murmansk to Abkhazia, from Brest to Mongolia. Regular autumn trips to Akhtuba. car is good for long trips, no fatigue, very pleased with the high bus landing, collected, but soft suspension.

For 7 years, the exterior and interior were practically not affected, with the exception of a few chips on the body and glass. LKP firmly holds the blows of operation. No comparison with my previous Lancer and Civic. In general, most of all, what I appreciate in a car (for which I bought it) is solidity, brutality. Not a single cricket in 7 years, no suspension rattle, creaking of cheap cardboard trim in the cabin. Everything is conscientious, all finishing materials, metal, you can’t wash your finger, the quality of the paintwork. Yes, by design, everything is already quite modest, dull by today's standards, but the feeling of quality and solidity, comfort has not gone anywhere. Yes, there are a number of shortcomings, but for me they are not significant. I don't notice anymore.

Operation did not cause much trouble, and for the first 5 years, I generally went only for maintenance. The engine does not cause enthusiasm for its power, after all, a diesel engine. He is valued by others. The first and main one is fuel consumption, which is 6.5-7 liters all year round. On a cruise, going 90-100 km / h, when one in the cabin and without cargo, the computer showed 5.6 liters. According to my estimates, the difference is twofold compared to a similar gasoline version. I have a friend at work who has an Outlander 2.4, he has an average consumption of 12 liters. Thus, roughly, the savings over 7 years amounted to about 350,000 rubles. I fill up everywhere, but at branded gas stations. Several times there were forced gas stations at unnamed gas stations and 2 times I "hit". Once in the winter, at a gas station near my GSK, where I used to fill a Honda without problems, I grabbed a summer diesel fuel in December. The second time was last summer in the village of Ust-Kan, Altai Republic. After refueling 20 forced liters, the engine began to smoke bluish. On the slopes there was a smoke screen like from KAMAZ. Even at idle there was blue smoke coming out of the chimney. That's it, Khan engine, or fuel, or catalyst, then I thought. It's gone.

The second plus is autonomy. In a quiet highway mode, a tank (68l) is enough for 1000 km. Checked. 3. Torque. When you need to “whisper” up a steep rocky slope at a minimum speed, for example, the engine allows you to do this without straining. On previous gasoline cars, in such cases, it was necessary to turn the engine by forcing the suspension and rubber of the car.

But, there are downsides too. The first is to constantly monitor the battery. In the beginning, in the early years, I dropped it off a couple of times. Those who travel only around the city on a diesel, and even if they have a Webasto-type heater, are favorites and frequent customers of road maintenance services in winter. The battery does not have time to charge in traffic jams. Yes, even with a tricky Frilov intelligent battery charging system. People turn on the heating of everything and everything, everything that is possible is plugged into the cigarette lighter)) ... My opinion, a personal passenger car on a diesel engine in the city and with an “autonomous system” is a hemorrhage and an irrational action, there is no saving. Long write, explaining the Webasto principle, but those who are in the subject will support me. The autonomy takes a very long time to heat up, and it is very good to have battery energy. Diesel is good for long highway runs.

The second problem is the problem of the plant in severe frost. For me, without preheating the Webasto, the engine started up with a lot of tension for itself even already at -15. I am not responsible for all diesels, but the Frilovian is gentle in this regard. Yes, it starts, but with wild vibrations, doubling, tripling, smoke screen. But, after warming up the Webasto plant with half a turn. The problem is that, for example, if the frost is 35 it is likely not to start at all. It happened to me once in 7 years. In the January frosts of 2017, in a village, 600 km from Moscow ... The car stood for two days in such a frost, in the wind. The battery almost dropped to zero (I did not know that then). I launch Webasto, after puffing for 5 minutes, it stalls from the battery landing, goes into blocking. Auto corpse. After charging the battery for a day, I wound up. And who else has dead candles - that's it, tow truck, warm garage, or, wait for spring.

Anyone who drives a car a little is likely not to have time to switch from “summer” to “winter”.

Another minus, subjective. The car is in the GSK box. Walk from home 15 min. In winter, when you need to warm up the engine with an autonomous system, you need to come close to the garage door to start the Webasto with the remote control. Previously, the brains do not catch the signal, interference. And here you are standing in the cold, early in the morning, in the dark, waiting, cleaning the snow from the gate so that the car warms up preheating at least 15 min. Who has a car under the windows of the house does not have such discomfort, of course

In short, diesel is more demanding on winter operation than gasoline, who are constantly in good shape and attentive to their car have no problems. But, if I lived somewhere in the YaNAO, or in the Republic of Yakutia in the regions of our Siberia and the Urals, I definitely would not have bought it for personal purposes. Spring-summer-autumn no problem. Even, to overheat - it is necessary to try. And only those who did not wash the radiators from fluff and dirt overheat in time.

And definitely, I can’t say if I would like the next car to be diesel ... If, diesel version cars will cost less than gasoline ones, as was the case with Friel, which was much cheaper with the new diesel one (like all other models of the brand), the diesel itself is good, like on the Freelander, and the car is big, heavy - definitely yes. Pampering to have a car for personal use with a consumption of 15-20 liters. and more, I think.

Service.

5 years and 145,000 km. as mentioned earlier, went without trouble. In fact, he did just that. I change the filter myself, I stop by the profile service to change the oil. In ordinary eateries like "Express" they themselves do not undertake to change, and you should not trust them. All because of the oil filter: 1. It is very difficult to get close to it, 2. The design is not in the usual sense, I took it, screwed it on. Cartridge, in a flask-lid with a sealing rubber band. This rubber band is thin. If the gum is of substandard section (left), the oil will “fly away” very quickly. Wedge. Or, on the contrary, if the section diameter is too large, and the cover of the oil cartridge can be difficult to tighten, and unscrewing it is generally unrealistic, only by overdoing it by breaking the turnkey slots. Which I did once. Somewhere ... I had to change this plastic "figurine" (3500r) ... There are no analogues.

I use 5w30 oil. Up to 150,000 km. there was no fumes at all. Now it began to go somewhere 0.5-0.7 liters per 10t.km. The last 3 years went to Lukoil Lux. Before that, there was OD-th Castrol, then Motul. Recently I was in Pskov, I bought NESTE at a branded gas station for 4 replacements, I fill it in now, I don’t feel the difference. I think by mileage 250,000 go to 5W40.

Once I changed the candles for 100 t.km, it turned out to be in vain (the battery died, the Polish Warta) only later amassed a problem. The candles were working, but the intake manifold gaskets were placed crooked. This was revealed after 2 years, when the engine began to frankly snotty oil from under the intake and the engine worked hard. The battery was installed by Exide.

At 120 t.km. I went to the Volvo service for the maintenance of Haldex. Dismantled, washed.

Every 3 years I change the power steering fluid reservoir by displacement. Thanks to club gurusJ Every 3 years changed brake fluid. After 6 years I replaced the brake hoses. After 5 years, I changed the antifreeze with washing the radiators. In general, they climbed in vain, everything was clean there.

Just once changed the oil in the front differential and in the box. In the box recently, at 175 t.km, in principle, in vain. The oil drained is conditioned, transparent, homogeneous, factory red. According to the regulations, replacement is required every 240t.km. Filled with non-original Mobil Mobilube HD 75W90, but you need Castrol Syntrans V FE 75W80.

It is only on order original number. Transfers with Mobile began to turn on badly in the winter. Later, with the replacement of the flywheel, the clutch changed again to the original. Here in the rear gearbox, I change the fluid every year, after winter. I fill in the usual mineral water Castrol EP 80W90, because it makes no sense to pour good there. It still buzzes. Oil merges always heterogeneous, cloudy, with water.

Regularly, once every 2 years I disassemble, clean the parking brake mechanism, these machines have such a sore, wedge them at the most inopportune moment. Corrosion … Tech like all frilovodov rear brake light after car washes. I put it on sealant. I changed the rubber seals of the wheel arches, dried out, lost their shape on the rubber of the tailgate seal VAZ-2112. For all the time, two summer and one winter sets of tires have worn out. Summer is almost zero, the factory Good Year and her one set of the same company. Winter (Nokian Hakkapeliitta SUV 5) with wear% 60 sold as used after 6 winters of use. There is no wear at all on the tires. Here is a summer one, I think with increased wear, according to my rough estimates, 50-55 thousand have passed. It's a paradox, the tires are worn down at an accelerated pace, but the brakes ... All the original discs and front pads are still standing. Rear pads changed at 135000km. The friction layer has already begun to peel off. But, I'm about to put everything new, bought a long time ago, at the end of 2014, at the old prices. I then bought a lot of things, when everyone rushed for cars and TV setsJ.

The shock absorbers are tired, it is already starting to break through the suspension with a full load where it was not there before. I think by 220-250 tons I will change immediately with springs. The rest is still holding, the only, very slight backlash of one tie rod (tucked tangentially once into the curb). Because of this, the steering wheel is slightly warped. I went like this until last year's trip to Altai, where this jamb surfaced. On the Moscow-Gorno-Altaisk section, the rubber on one side ate to zero. At the local tire shop, they tightened up the traction at the wheel alignment. The rear one wheel also left a little, but everything was soured there, since no one climbed there in 7 years. Now only grinder saw and drill bolts.

Replaced the gas stops on the hood and trunk lids. I put a Swedish analogue on the trunk, I was dissatisfied with it, although not much cheaper than the original (1250r.sht). On the hood I decided not to goon and bought an analogue (2500r).

On the 7th year of life, signs of corrosion appeared outwardly. The body is without galvanization, as far as I understand, and this makes itself felt. Firstly, the paint was swollen with small bubbles (match head) under those chips that I did not notice in time and did not paint over with a pencil. Bubbles also appeared on the tailgate duct. Traces of rust on the arch of one left wheel (stoned). Processed .. The tailgate rusts under the molding, but here “thank you” to the Krivorukov OD for the CASCO repair after a small accident. Also, I tint, it does not spread yet. I want to zaantikorit spars under the bottom. As long as they corrode. And then it will be seen. The car, of course, runs all year round, according to different roads, in the provinces roads are still sprinkled with salt, not always mine after that ... There is nothing eternal.

Breakdowns.

In general, the car practically did not annoy with breakdowns. Only in the 6th year and by the mileage of 150,000 it immediately fell and hit the wallet noticeably. It was the summer of 2016.

Chronology.

38,000 - hood limit switch (500r). Changed myself. Most likely, it was flooded with spray during a very heavy rain.

52,000 - a wedge of parking brake pads in one of the wheels. On my way. Dismantled and cleaned at a nearby dealership. Subsequent complete disassembly and cleaning of the mechanisms of both rear wheels on their own

61,000 - the rear differential buzzed. The most massive and widespread Freelander disease. Done under warranty.

98,000 - burned out "size" (18r). Do-it-yourself replacement

99 900 - repeated wedge of the parking brake pads in one of the wheels. Subsequent complete disassembly cleaning the mechanisms of both rear wheels on their own

110,000 - one of the car key fobs refused to leave the lock socket without outside help due to the "bloating" of the opening buttons. I bought an analogue on Ali (420r).

123,000 - failure of the tailgate opening handle. Also a common disease, “thanks” to FORD, from the FF2-station wagon the detail is one to one. Do-it-yourself replacement (2100r)

143 500 - EGR valve cooler (32500r). A very dreary replacement, inaccessibility, soured bolts ... At first, in one service, the scan showed an error on the valve itself, there was no doubt that it was in it, EGR heat exchangers very rarely break. I purchased an analogue of Piersburg (12000r). When I went to change, they changed it and the check did not go out, after scanning again it turned out that there was an error in the heat exchanger. I ordered a part in Avtodok, I bring it, it’s not the same! It turned out that my restyled modification had another EGR cooler, more complex, with some kind of vacuum machine. I had to be a little nervous and quarrel with the return and wait for the part with the correct article number.

144 000 - overrunning clutch of the air conditioning compressor. Overheat. Very rare breakdown, rare item, (15000 r).

144 300 - air conditioning compressor. Overheating, wedge. (29000r). The saddest and most embarrassing moment of all time. Briefly, the story is this. In the spring of the 16th year, I went to one service (I’ll call it the LR service) to flush the radiators, replace the belts with rollers, along the way, even then the intake manifold gaskets were changed. In June, on the track, the overrunning clutch of the compressor rattled and it wedges, the drive belt breaks. Tow truck. They put a new one in the LR service, they determine that the compressor is almost jammed, they give it to me, I take it for repair to the AUTOMATIC company on Krasnobogatyrskaya, 2. People, remember this office and never, NEVER go there! This is the only place in Moscow where they repair (allegedly) DENSO compressors. Instead of repairing my compressor, these fools sold some refurbished one, only they rearranged my new clutch. There was a very long scandal, swearing, it hurts to remember, I spent a lot of nerves then, spat, took it, brought it to the service, put it on the car. I drove home, the compressor only works when the car is moving. At idle, hot air comes out of the ducts in the plug. I didn’t immediately turn to this Automation ... after 2 months, after a vacation and a trip to Astrakhan, I went to them, they do diagnostics, and it turns out that I have .... The radiator fans don't work at all. I’m going to the LR service, after a long search they find an open circuit. The wiring to the fan ECU was frayed on one of the pipes. The curtain! My version. In the spring, when I was dug into engine compartment in this LR service, with the disassembly and removal of all radiators, pipes, belts, intake manifolds, everything was crookedly assembled and this wire to the fans, rubbed, rubbed for a couple of months, until it was worn out, the fans “stood up”. The freon in the condenser did not cool enough, the pressure in the system was excessive all the time. So the compressor began to wedge, and the clutch burned out from this. I traveled half the summer with non-working fans, I even managed to go to Astrakhan and back! It didn’t overheat just because the diesel engine was cold in summer and didn’t stand in traffic jams, everything ran along the highway. The master of that service justified himself for a long time, called it all nonsense. Alas, the causal relationship can no longer be restored. He has his own version, I have my own ... I did not find a single topic about a wire break on the club forum. How did I manage not to notice that? So, the diesel rumbles so much that in the cabin, you can’t hear from the outside whether the fans are working, and rarely turn on, the engine is cold.

At the moment, with the second, restored compressor, God only knows if he managed to suffer too ... And this situation does not please me at all. New set -65t.+10 work. In thought.

158 500 - repeated hum rear gear. I went through everything in the same service LR (16000r). This timeQuality and very quickly done.

182,000 - the connector of one rear light fell apart. More precisely, after the accident, when they changed the bumper at the OD, apparently they didn’t insert the plug into the connector correctly, there was no plastic wedge-lock at all when I got there myself. First, I changed the turn signal lamp, it didn’t help, then I looked at the contacts, they were all oxidized, turned green. I cleaned it, stuffed it with electric grease and fixed it with a homemade wedge. As long as everything stays on, the flashlight functions.

198,000 - dual-mass flywheel (21000r). In principle, he hastened his death. In February of this year, after a heavy snowfall, it bogged down. After that, the stink from the burnt clutch and itching began to periodically go, vibrations on the pedal when the clutch was depressed. Disc + basket (12000r), release bearing (1000r) also changed. The disk was still alive. Plus, along the way, they replaced: the rear crankshaft oil seal (1200r), which began to sweat, the hydraulic release tube (1000r), the oil in the box (4500r) and something else.

Summary.

Auto with character, requires some attention. If you follow the car and treat small company whims with restraint, then the thrill of owning a car is indescribable. Even when carried on a tow truck, thoughts did not run to get rid of. Friel is like family to me. And the attitude towards him accordingly. Change and don't think it makes sense now? And for what?...

Would I buy it for myself again now? At current prices, definitely not! And in general, I would not buy anything more expensive than a million and more difficult than Duster. An irrational waste of money is the purchase of movable property. Other worries already.

popular last year car brand Land Rover has discontinued production of the Land Rover Freelander 2. Instead, now - Discovery Sport. And for those who want to buy a car of the last release, only used models remained. Let's look at the main options for this instance and find out how to choose a used car.

A bit of history

The second generation version hit the market in 2006 and was in great demand until 2010. But then the manufacturer decided to make a small restyling. identify this model it is possible only by optics and disks, as well as body colors.

Those motorists who closely followed the development of this model range, know that the update in 2010 was cosmetic, but a new upgraded 2.2-liter turbodiesel unit was also installed. The 2013 model also underwent modernization, but in appearance there are practically no differences with previous years. Everything is inside and under the hood.

But here everything is not as simple as it seems. The company has been following an unpleasant chain of events since the late 90s. Land Rover's power was sold to BMW, which took several developments for the X5, then the third generation. range rover disgusting quality, and then the transfer of the company under the leadership of Ford. At Ford, they began to engage in the introduction of new developments and innovations, but then the crisis of 2008 followed, and the project was curtailed. At the beginning of the 2000s, the brand could be compared to a talented child who loved music, but at the behest of his parents, he was engaged in boxing. But despite all the obstacles, the engineers from Land Rover were able to do something.

Salon

Behind the wheel of the Land Rover Freelander 2 SUV, there is some kind of solidity. The controls are large, chunky, and the landing is traditionally high. The door slams shut as if a giant is banging his club on wood. At the same time, a high structural strength is felt. As for soundproofing, it is not at the premium level. Although it is difficult to compare with what KIa does.

The quality and finishing materials may seem cheap, and the plastic is very hard to the touch. But this is not so - everything is very pleasant. In general, the interior is quite strict and solid. Everything is done very classically. The eye in this interior rests on the instrument panel with a large color display. Here you can see temperature readings and other characteristics. In addition to the readings of the trip computer, the Terrain Response menu is easily displayed on the screen. So, you can see the mode of operation of the system and the angle at which the front wheels are deployed.

See how this system works in the Freelander-2 SUV. The test speaks for itself.

Also, the potential owner will find in the cabin a new wheel, handbrake, as well as an updated center console. represented by a seven-inch touch screen. I am pleased with the presence of voice control, and for music lovers, the sound of Meridian is presented. These are 11 speakers with a total output of 380W or 17 speakers with a total output of 825W. Impressive? Great, but not available in the database.

Some consider the ergonomics of the interior to be unremarkable. But the car is simply amazing in this regard and fully justifies all the money invested in it. Besides, this is the last of the real Land Rover.

under the hood

We are talking about the used Freelander-2 SUV, which means that we need to approach the issue from this point of view. So, the car does not shine with perfection. Diesel unit, namely with it it is recommended to purchase this crossover, it was previously used on Ford Transit. And when the person who sells the car will say that the engine has been tested by time, then you need to understand that the unit is very outdated. Produced these motors of the year. But there's nothing wrong with that, of course. The only thing is fuel consumption, like Airbus, and complex electronic components and the presence of a turbine will not allow you to drain diesel fuel from familiar truckers.

In our country, they offer the Freelander-2 diesel SUV. This is the already well-known 2.2-liter engine with a capacity of 160 hp. from. However, there is still a 150-horsepower unit with a mechanical or automatic transmission and 190-horsepower engine. For a domestic user, it is equipped only with an automatic machine. Both units produce the same torque. Both modifications have turbochargers with the possibility of changing the geometry.

In models from 2013, engineers replaced the unit with a 2.2-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 240 hp. from. Now it is economical, powerful, with good traction characteristics.

Transmission

Warner is built to be fast and responsive. But also the box is quite economical. For example, the operation of the torque converter lock-up has a wider range. The developers have reduced the weight of the gearbox and optimized it inside. mechanical box for this model, after the modernization, it did not undergo any changes and remained the same as it was.

The underrated car

Yes. It's exactly like that. In the Top Gear show, the model was undeservedly rejected because of her low-key appearance. But at the same time he is talented in other ways. The second generation is built on a rigid frame platform. Women's subframes are installed front and rear. The suspension is long-stroke, simple and maintainable. There are no problems with her.

Off-road the driver will be helped by a unique electronic system motion control, as well as constant four-wheel drive. For the Freelander-2 SUV, the price is quite democratic and even affordable, if we talk about used cars.

Yes, the owners talk a lot about electronics flaws. She is often wrong. It has already been said about the outdated engine, the sounds of the working suspension will be heard very clearly. However, when it comes to appearance, one can safely argue. Fans believe that it is ideal: simple, brutal and concise. With all those shortcomings, the car turned out to be a real fighter. A repair ("Freelander" 2nd generation) with correct operation will be reduced to the replacement of consumables.

Specifications

Engine - 2.2 liters, with a capacity of 150 or 190 liters. from. Fuel consumption is 7.0 liters per 100 km. Transmission six-speed, automatic. The car can overcome fords up to 500 mm.

How to choose?

Let's talk about choice suitable vehicle. So, the model was produced from the 06th to the 14th year. That is why there are a lot of selection options in the secondary market. For the Freelander-2 SUV, the price is from 600 thousand for copies of the first years of production to 2.5 million rubles for maximum configuration. But, of course, the cost is slightly overpriced. You should choose a crossover aged 3-4 years and a 2.2-liter simple turbodiesel unit.

The manufacturer offers a three-year warranty on the machine. By purchasing a three-year-old car, the buyer will definitely receive a service history in his hands. This, though small, is still confidence in the future. For engines, a turbodiesel with a capacity of 150 hp is especially popular. from. It is better in terms of software, and the turbine is cooled by both oil and antifreeze. There is also a tax difference.

What configurations does the 2nd generation Freelander have?

Three sets can be distinguished. These are S, SE, HSE. Engines to choose from, too, in fact, three. These are already familiar diesel engines, as well as a 2-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 240 “horses”. Options differ among themselves in interior materials, electronic functions and equipment, as well as exterior features.

maintainability

Much has been written about the used Freelander 2 SUV; reviews, shortcomings - all this is very clear. Among the shortcomings - only the engine from Ford. But it is this diesel with automatic transmission that is recommended to be purchased. It is more economical and is perfect for modern realities.

There will be no problems with the car. is not here and never was. Instead, a catalyst is present, so there are practically no problems. Both the engine and the transmission have a high resource.

Owners often write on the forums about the Freelander-2 model with mileage. Reviews do not actually note shortcomings.

Many manage to drive up to 300 thousand km without repair. To do this, you just need to change the oil regularly, fuel filter and other consumables.

They often write about problems with a “burnt” transmission. They just follow from the fact that the oil changed irregularly. After 130 thousand, the manufacturer recommends performing as well as rollers. These parts are relatively inexpensive. It is also recommended to regularly change the lubricant in transfer case. It changes along with the timing.

Suspension SUV "Freelander-2" with mileage: reviews, disadvantages

The owners declare the high reliability of the systems. Very rarely, someone writes that up to 150 thousand shock absorbers were replaced. Often change racks and bushings. But if necessary, the front shock absorbers still need to be replaced.

As for the brakes, only the pads change here. Everything else has a high resource. Prices are quite low and uplifting for those who buy such machines.

conclusions

In general, you can safely buy a used Freelander-2 SUV. Reviews, shortcomings show that the machine has been operated without problems for a long time. The owner is only required to comply with the rules. This great car for those who know a lot about them.

So, we found out what the 2nd generation Freelander SUV has reviews, advantages and disadvantages.
