Carburetor adjustment vaz 21093. Specifications

Cars of models 2108-09 are truly legendary developments of Volzhsky car factory, it was with them that the production of front-wheel drive cars in the USSR began. Also for these cars, a VAZ-2109 Solex carburetor was created and launched into a series, providing economical fuel consumption and excellent dynamic characteristics.

The carburetor assembly (KU) is quite simple to set up, has a generally simple design relative to other similar devices, but it has its own characteristics and characteristic "diseases". Here we will consider the device of the carburetor, its dismantling and installation, the specifics of adjustment, setting the level of gasoline, debugging the trigger.

Carburetor device VAZ-2109

The first front-wheel drive VAZ cars were put into production in 1985, the Togliatti plant began producing three-door 2108 models equipped with a 1.3-liter gasoline engine. Somewhat later, a conveyor production of 5-door "nines" was established, and new 1.1 and 1.5 liter engines also appeared (modifications 21081 and 21083).

For each engine volume, AvtoVAZ developed its own carburetor, but outwardly, the CUs actually do not differ from each other, the difference lies only in the dosing elements located inside the case and the nameplate with the model designation. Unlike the classic Ozones, the Solexes have a body of only two parts, and not three - this is the main section with a platform for installation on the engine and the top cover.

The device of the VAZ-2109 carburetor has its own characteristics, but in general it contains the same parts as another similar assembly for cars domestic cars nineties and early 2000s. This KU is an emulsion type, two-chamber, with sequential opening of the chambers, for more stable operation it is equipped with liquid heating (antifreeze or antifreeze is used, poured into the cooling system).

For full functioning in any modes and optimal dosing of the air-fuel mixture, the following systems are provided here:

  • the main dosing is the main one, its elements are in both chambers (air and fuel jets, diffusers, emulsion tubes);
  • idling (XX), ensures the stability of the internal combustion engine at low speed, economical consumption of gasoline;
  • transitional from the first chamber to the second, serves to prevent jerks and dips at the moment the damper of the second chamber is opened;
  • an accelerator pump that supplies an additional portion of fuel at the moment of a sharp acceleration of the car, due to which the speed is gained smoothly, without jerks;
  • economizer enriches the fuel mixture high speed engine internal combustion(ICE) and increased loads;
  • starting device, allows you to start the motor without problems in any cold weather:
  • float chamber, supports required level gasoline regardless of load and speed.

When parts of the carburetor assembly wear out, become clogged or fail, various malfunctions appear, such as loss of power, uneven engine operation, increased fuel consumption, engine stop when gas is released, and so on. Only a specialist can independently deal with all the intricacies of repair, but many drivers are able to clean, adjust and adjust the carburetor with their own hands.

Removal and installation of the carburetor

Mounting and dismantling is carried out in case of repair of this unit, its complete replacement as well as for thorough rinsing and cleaning. The KU can become clogged if the car is operated on dusty roads, as well as as a result of untimely replacement element air filter.

Removing and installing the VAZ-2109 carburetor is very simple, even with the initial skills of a car mechanic, almost any driver (car owner) is able to do this work with his own hands. We perform the dismantling operation as follows:

If the KU is thoroughly stuck to the studs and does not pull off, you can gently tap it at the base with a small hammer, shake it with your hands from side to side. As a rule, after several attempts, the device gives in, after its removal, you can proceed to further planned operations, the installation of the assembly is carried out in the reverse order.

Main malfunctions

Any malfunctions of the carburetor 2109 affect the performance of the engine: the engine may stall when slowing down, work intermittently, not develop power, consume gasoline in excess of the norm. There are a lot of reasons for the occurrence of problems in this node, but the most characteristic of them are:

  • clogging of the GDS and idle jets, both air and fuel, and in the solenoid valve (EMG);
  • rupture (defect) of the accelerator pump diaphragm;
  • failure of the EMG itself;
  • loose fit to the seat of the needle of the locking mechanism;
  • air leakage through the junction of the body and cover;
  • leakage of the float in the float chamber;
  • clogging with dirt (litter) of the accelerator pump sprayer;
  • misadjustment of screws XX.

Of course, various kinds of failures can occur not only because of the carburetor, the engine itself is often faulty, and the ignition is also set incorrectly, especially if the installation was carried out by an inexperienced craftsman without a stroboscope. Problems with idling can occur due to a lack of power to the solenoid valve, therefore, before disassembling the KU, you should first check for voltage on this wiring.

Setting the fuel level in the float chamber

Maintaining a normal level of gasoline in the float chamber is an important condition, if it is not observed, malfunctions in the car occur:

  • if the level is below normal, the engine does not have enough speed, power decreases, gasoline consumption increases;
  • if it is higher than it should be, fuel consumption also rises, moreover, even more.

Setting the fuel level for the VAZ-2108-09-099 is quite simple, and in this case it is not necessary to remove the carburetor. The procedure for adjusting the position of the floats is as follows:

  • remove the KVF assembly with the filter element;
  • disconnect the suction cable, fuel hoses, EMG power wire;
  • unscrew the five screws securing the carburetor cover;
  • turn the lid over, take a drill with a thickness of 1 to 2 mm and make a measurement between the gasket and the lower surface of the floats - this distance should be exactly within these limits, moreover, the same.

It is also possible to measure the fuel level, but before carrying out such a procedure, it is necessary that the engine runs for several minutes for idling. The distance from the upper edge of the housing to the surface of gasoline is measured; according to factory conditions, it should be 25-26 mm. Another way is to measure the distance from the gasket to the upper edge of the floats with a caliper, it is 34 mm (with the cover upside down).

Another measurement method is using a specially made template.

Important conditions when setting the level:

If the floats inside the chamber are installed skewed or not strictly vertical, they may rub against the walls of the housing, spilling gasoline as a result of sticking.

Idle adjustment

The most common problem with the Solex carburetor is the disappearance of normal idle, the engine starts to work intermittently at low speeds. Very often, the cause of such a malfunction is either a clogged EMG jet or the solenoid valve itself. It is very easy to check this - while the engine is running at XX, we disconnect the wiring from the EMG, if the nature of the internal combustion engine does not change at all, and when the valve is unscrewed, the speed increases noticeably, which means that there is a defect.

You can try to restore the normal operation of XX without removing the entire node, and this procedure is quite simple:

But it is not always possible to clean the channel in this way, a mote can get stuck in the area of the quality screw. Here it is already necessary to remove and disassemble the carburetor, dismantle the screw, which in general is not very difficult, since it is located deep in the channel and is held there by a sealing rubber ring.

Ignition angle correction

Sluggish acceleration of the car and instability of the twentieth are also often associated with incorrectly set ignition, mainly this procedure is performed in car services using special equipment. But if desired, it is easy to make adjustments on your own, moreover, without a stroboscope, moreover, quite accurately:

If, under heavy load and sudden acceleration, “fingers knock” noticeably (engine detonation appears), you should move the distributor a little to “minus”, then check the car again on the go. So you can set the ignition quite accurately, and sometimes even better than with a strobe.

Features and malfunctions of the starting device

With the onset of frost, many owners of "nines" are faced with the problem of poor cold start of the engine, and the cause of the malfunction is often a starting device (PU), which is designed to enrich the fuel mixture in a certain proportion. When the suction cable is pulled out, the air damper (VZ) closes, but under the action of vacuum, it changes its position, opening slightly and to some extent allowing air to pass into the carburetor. The position of the air intake is also regulated using a diaphragm device, which is mechanically connected to the damper by a system of rods.

Of course, a cold engine may not start in cold weather due to a weak battery, a bad starter, because of the engine itself, if it is already worn out, but the carburetor assembly is also often the culprit. Causes of failure in this case:

  • opening screw set incorrectly air damper on a diaphragm device;
  • the diaphragm itself is torn or has lost its elasticity (there may also be air leakage);
  • loose or incorrectly installed suction cable;
  • missing or stretched return spring;
  • another spring is incorrectly selected, which is located inside the diaphragm mechanism.

In order for the engine to start without problems at low temperatures, it is important to adjust the starting gap (the angle of inclination of the air intake at start-up). We perform the adjustment as follows:

Having achieved the desired result, we tighten the lock nut, do a second cold start, this time the car should start almost immediately.

Quality screw dismantling method

For Solex carburetors, the XX channel in the body itself is often clogged, and in order to blow it well, it is necessary to remove the quality screw. But this screw, as mentioned above, has a very tight fit, and it is not easy to get it. There are several methods for dismantling a part, we will consider only one option.

We take a piece of an old antenna from any radio receiver, select the outer diameter so that the tube enters the channel of the carburetor body, usually the outer thickness of the “puller” is about 4 mm. We cut off a small piece, make a cut at one end (about 1 cm deep), use another quality screw (a spare one, or you can buy it specially in a store), check how tightly the tube fits on the screw head.

Now you can unscrew the screw and use a homemade puller to get it out of the KU housing.

VAZ 2109 carburetor tuning is a popular and very popular topic lately. From the article we will learn how to do it.
On the VAZ 2109, tuning a Solex carburetor or a carburetor of another production is carried out for only one main reason - to increase the power and dynamic characteristics of the car.
To increase power, experts disagree, it is necessary first of all to refine the power unit. Yes, this is true, but if there is not enough budget, you have to take risks.
Refinement of the carburetor, without improving the other important elements, is, of course, a risk, but in some cases it is justified.

Device

Before tuning, you need to know how the Solex carburetor works. It was produced in several modifications and either DAAZ-2108 or DAAZ-2183 was installed on the VAZ 2109.
The first of the carburetor modifications was set to 1.3 liter engine, the second - by 1.5 liter. These carburetors are devices that are designed to accurately dispense fuel into an air stream.
The Solex carburetor is also distinguished by the following features:

  • It is in the carburetor that the process of formation of fuel and air takes place. combustible mixture, with its subsequent supply to the engine cylinders (see);
  • Note that the Solex carburetor has two vertical channels, called chambers.

Note. For the passage of air in the lower part of each chamber, a throttle valve is provided.

  • Due to the fact that there are two chambers, and the damper drive is designed so that as you pull on the gas pedal, one and then another channel opens, such a carburetor is called a two-chamber.

Note. The chamber that opens earlier is called primary, and the one that opens later is called secondary.

  • Of the main features of the carburetor, we also note cone-shaped narrowings, called diffusers. They are needed in order to create the vacuum necessary to suck fuel from the float chamber (a special container in the carburetor body).

Note. The fuel level in the float chamber is kept constant to ensure normal work carburetor.

  • Solex carburetor consists of two main parts: upper and lower. The flanged housing, air filter retaining studs and fuel fittings are what the top is made up of.
    The lower part consists of a body, diffusers, a float chamber and.

Technical parameters of carburetors DAAZ-2108/2183

Classic tuning

To carry out tuning of the Solex carburetor, it is necessary to carry out the following operations:

  • dismantle itself;
  • It is good to clean it from dirt;
  • Remove jets and throttle valves (carried out for boring diffusers);
  • Both cameras must be increased in size on a special machine;
  • Grind the carburetor to reduce incoming air resistance;
  • We select the ones necessary for the now modernized carburetor.

Selection of jets

The selection of jets is the most difficult process. They should be selected taking into account not only coincidence, but also high accuracy.
Thus, the VZH must be selected so as to pass a certain amount of air, which would be equal to the amount of fuel passed through the TJ. Otherwise, fuel mixture will not be properly balanced, which will inevitably lead to weak overclocking and other problems.
In addition, the jets must be properly balanced. It is necessary to approach this issue with all responsibility, understanding that the instability of the fuel level will lead to a lean mixture.

Note. As you know, the ideal level is 1 mm. The remaining levels lead to malfunctions and loss of power.

In the process of tuning the carburetor, it is also recommended by experts to install a rubber locking needle, which provides a more reliable level during heavy loads. In addition, such a needle is durable and can get rid of freezes when the accelerator pedal is pressed sharply.

Two carburetors instead of one

This approach is also considered as effective tuning. This idea has a very sound basis. It would seem why the engineers themselves did not think of this at the design stage of the VAZ 2109 car, but that's another story.

Note. One of the main reasons for installing two carburetors instead of one, experts and tuners see that due to design oddities on the “nine” power unit, the length of the manifold pipes is different. Because of this, not entirely clear situation, more fuel gets into the chambers of the 1st and 4th cylinders of the engine, and less into the rest.

This error can, of course, be corrected by polishing the manifolds and both chambers from the inside. This procedure will allow more mixture to enter the chambers, as a result of which the resistance to flow will drop, the quality will improve, and everything will become much more efficient.
But still, this is not perfect option- Installing two carburetors instead of one looks much more attractive.

Important Points

Here important points to be considered during installation:

  • Both carburetors must be of the same model (in this case, the Solex);
  • It is also necessary to install two filters and prepare the appropriate number of fasteners, tees, hoses, and so on;
  • After installation, which in itself is not so difficult, it is necessary to set up both carburetors, which is considered as a more difficult operation.

Note. Adjustment of carburetors can be carried out using a bar of vacuum gauges or an IKS-1 mixture quality sensor screwed in place of the candle. So that the adjustment turns out to be correct, it is necessary to observe the color of the mixture at idle and ensure that it becomes light blue.

Do-it-yourself installation algorithm

Here's what to do:

  • Take two Solex carburetors;
  • Bring them into proper form and equip with a repair kit;
  • Purchase two manifolds from the Oka car, which will serve as the basis for the intake tract (you must also make your own adapter manifold).

Note. You can install two carburetors on the “nine” without mounting the adapter, but then you will have to cut, connect, etc. a lot.

  • Next, you need to synchronize the operation of the carburetors by opening the dampers on both of them.

Advice. As a damper drive, it is desirable to use traction from Ozone, but not cables from Tavria, which are stretched.

  • After installing the carburetors, we connect the fuel hoses and two return lines through the tees;
  • Be sure to plug the fitting on one of the collectors;
  • We start the car (half a turn) and check everything.

Pros and cons of a double carburetor on the "nine"

Tuning is a responsible, but entertaining process. Before conducting it, it is recommended to study useful photos - materials, diagrams and drawings, watch a video - review, scroll through the instructions.
As a result, we carry out modernization with our own hands, which will certainly come in handy.

The main number of VAZ cars of the Samara family, and in particular the VAZ-2109, came off the assembly line with a carburetor power system, and only later a small series received injectors. The carburetor system has a simple design and is quite reliable, but its main component - the carburetor - requires periodic adjustment. VAZ-2109 and other models of the family were equipped with Solex carburetors, which are distinguished by a relatively simple adjustment technology that every motorist can perform.

There are two main carburetor settings - the fuel level in the float chambers and the engine idle speed (XX). These adjustment work is carried out with and even with the manifestation of certain symptoms of improper operation of the power system:

  1. Decreased speed gain.

These problems indicate that the fuel level in the chamber is not normal.

Setting the fuel level

Adjusting the amount of fuel in the chambers of Solex carburetors is a simple procedure and does not require specialized equipment. Although at the factory this adjustment is performed using a special template that simplifies and speeds up the work. But at home, you can do without this template.
For self-regulation, you need:

  • screwdrivers (Phillips, flat);
  • ruler (preferably a caliper);
  • round bar with a diameter of 2 mm (wire or drill will do).

With this equipment, you can quickly complete all the work.

Level control technology includes a number of steps:

In the case when the amount of fuel in the chamber is below or above the norm, we perform a visual inspection and a series of measurements on the floats, if necessary, we correct their position.

To carry out adjustment work, we put the removed carburetor cover on a flat horizontal surface with the floats up.

First, we look at the position of the elements from above. The outer side surfaces of the floats are parallel to the special imprints on the gasket. Deviations can cause the floats to touch the adjacent elements and surfaces, due to which the fuel level is not correct. If necessary, we adjust the position of the floats by bending their attachment levers.
The next step is to measure the gap between the floats and the gasket. A bar with a diameter of 2 mm is useful here - this is how much the specified gap should be.

If it does not match, we bend the tongue of the floats, with which they act on the locking needle. After this adjustment, we check the total height of the floats, which is normally 34 mm. If this is not the case, check the gap again, correct it if necessary, and measure the height again.

The last step in the setup is to determine the stroke of the floats. To do this, we put a caliper near the float, mark the distance from its lower corner to the surface of the cover, after that we raise the float with our hand and note where it turned out bottom corner.

A working stroke of 15 mm is considered normal, if it differs, it is adjustable by bending the tongue.

Alternative way

There is a simpler method for determining the correct position of the floats that does not require measurements.
Lay the carburetor cover on a flat table and look at the punches made on the sides. With the floats normally adjusted, these strips are parallel to the lid.

Then we raise the floats up and look at their bottom, which after lifting should be parallel to the surface of the lid. If necessary, adjust the position of the floats by bending the tongue.

After adjusting work, we assemble the carburetor.

Idle adjustment

The second setting of the VAZ-2109 carburetor - idle speed, can be partial and complete. The first is for a slight speed adjustment, the second is for adjusting the amount of air (setting CO emissions in the exhaust gases).

Partial adjustments are made using the air-fuel mixture “amount” screw. This screw sets the opening angle of the throttle valves, which ensures that the air-fuel mixture enters the cylinders when the accelerator pedal is released. The “quantity” screw rests against the throttle control lever and when screwed in, it pushes the lever out, which causes the dampers to open slightly.

Partial is carried out on a warm engine and with the creation of a load on the on-board network of the car, by turning on the high beam headlights and the interior heater on full power.
The adjustment is carried out on the running engine by screwing in / unscrewing the "quantity" screw until the optimal idle speed is set, which for the VAZ-2109 is 800-900 rpm (this can be tracked by a standard or connected tachometer).

If it is not possible to set the required speed or the motor is unstable on them, a full adjustment is carried out, which is done by two screws - “quantity” and “quality”.

The algorithm for this adjustment consists of the following steps:

  1. We warm up the engine, then turn it off;
  2. We look for a quality screw (it can be closed with a plug that will have to be removed), wrap it all the way, and then unscrew it 3-4 full turns;
  3. We start the engine, turn on the electrical consumers (lighting and stove) to create a load in the on-board network;
  4. By turning the “quantity” screw, we achieve 700-800 rpm on the tachometer;
  5. Rotating the “quality” screw we set the maximum possible turns(they will rise to a certain level, and then stop. The moment the increase in speed stops is considered the maximum);
  6. We set the “quantity” screw to 900 rpm;
  7. With the “quality” screw, we lower them to 800 rpm;
  8. Slowly turn the “quality” screw while in operation power plant interruptions will not appear, after which we turn it back 1 turn;
  9. We correct the speed with the "quantity" screw, bringing them to a normal rate - 800-900 rpm;

After the adjustment operations, we check the correctness of their implementation. This is done by sharply pressing the gas pedal, followed by a quick release. With a properly tuned carburetor, the engine should respond quickly to pressure, without any dips or hitches. And after releasing the pedal to the idle level, without drawdowns or manifestations of instability of the motor.

Seal

Domestic cars VAZ-2109 are equipped with a reliable and maintainable Solex carburetor. The device has proven itself to be quite reliable, but to ensure a long period of operation it is necessary to constantly clean and adjust it. Malfunctioning parts can lead to excessive fuel consumption and serious engine damage. Adjustment of the VAZ-2109 carburetor can be carried out independently at home with a set of tools.

Signs of a broken carburetor

The carburetor, like the rest of the engine, plays a big role in the movement of the car. Assembly malfunctions are manifested first by unpleasant symptoms, and only then lead to serious disturbances in the operation of the motor. The first signs that you should pay attention to are the following manifestations.

  1. Pedal dips. When you press the gas pedal, the car travels at the same speed for a while and only after a few seconds does it start accelerating. Sometimes the interval can reach up to 10 - 20 seconds, and then ignoring it becomes unsafe.
  2. dash. A sharp set and slowdown may indicate a malfunction of the carburetor. Usually, jerks are very short-lived, so they can be confused with signs of malfunctions in other parts.
  3. twitching. A series of jerks, which is repeated at some interval, indicates a problem in the carburetor.
  4. rocking. The failures following one after another lead to the fact that a swaying effect is created.
  5. Slow acceleration. If the car has become much slower to accelerate, and there are no obvious reasons for this, then it is worth adjusting the VAZ-2109 Solex carburetor.

Although all these signs are highly likely to indicate a breakdown of the carburetor, sometimes there may be situations in which the characteristic features of the malfunction become uninformative.

In non-standard cases, it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive diagnosis.

How to set up a carburetor on a VAZ-2109 Solex with your own hands

Initially, you need to prepare the entire tool for adjusting and repairing the carburetor. Tuning is often accompanied by small repair work, so the masters recommend having the whole essential tool. In the room in which the mechanism will be disassembled, it is necessary to ensure good ventilation, as strong fuel vapors can lead to a deterioration in well-being.

In the process of work, you can not use rags or brushes, so you should prepare in advance a special material that does not crumble and does not change its structure.

For convenience and high-quality results, the car must be on a horizontal plane. A flathead screwdriver should always be nearby, as it is used most often when setting up a carburetor. Cleaning of the part must be carried out with special means or, in extreme cases, with clean gasoline.

The float chamber regulates the fuel level. This part of the device is the easiest to repair and set up, so it is better for novice craftsmen or motorists to start from this point. Do-it-yourself adjustment of the VAZ-2109 carburetor consists of several stages:

  1. It is necessary to start the engine and let it run for 2 - 3 minutes.
  2. After the engine has been turned off, it is necessary to remove the air filter from the Solex.
  3. Next, disconnect the fuel hose.
  4. When dismantling the carburetor cover, you need to unscrew 5 hardware. A feature of the dismantling of the bolts is the need to unscrew them strictly vertically. If the hardware is removed incorrectly, the floats can be damaged, which will cause serious repairs.
  5. Normally, the distance from the edge of the carburetor to gasoline is 25.5 millimeters. If the distance does not match, then you need to correct it by bending the tongue of the float bracket. Since it is difficult to set the desired distance the first time, the bending procedure can be repeated several times.
  6. While the cover is removed, experts recommend checking it for parallel edges and, if necessary, restoring the correct position of the elements.

On the "nine" these works are quite easy to carry out.

One of the main conditions is the constant maintenance of cleanliness and the prevention of various small parts entering the carburetor.

The starting device can be configured in the removed state. Before adjustment, it is necessary to check the condition of the diaphragm. The part breaks down quite often, so it must be replaced with a new one immediately after deformations are detected. Setting starting device takes place in five stages:

  1. Closing the air damper. To do this, turn the drive lever.
  2. Changing the location of the stem. Using a screwdriver or other object, the starter rod is recessed for the duration of the adjustment work.
  3. Gap measurement. After drowning the stem, the damper opens slightly. It is necessary to measure the distance between the damper and the chamber wall. The indicators are compared with the parameters declared by the manufacturer and, if necessary, adjustments are made.
  4. Trigger setting. If there is a discrepancy in the size of the gaps, adjustment is carried out. To do this, turn the screw with a screwdriver. The screw, when unscrewing, provides an increase in the gap, and when screwing in, it decreases.
  5. Throttle chamber clearance. The air damper must be tightly closed. The gap dimensions are indicated in the manual, which simplifies the process of adjusting the position of the throttle chamber. Adjustment is also made using a hardware.

Stroke adjustment is carried out on a fully assembled system. The engine must be well warmed up before adjusting the idle speed. It is better to use a tachometer and a gas analyzer when adjusting, but you can do without the latter. Adjustment without a gas analyzer is carried out according to the following scheme.

  1. With the engine off, it is necessary to screw in the hardware of the quality of the air-fuel mixture until it stops.
  2. Next, you need to do 3 - 4 turns in the opposite direction.
  3. The engine must be started, the suction removed, the fan and high beam turned on.
  4. With the fuel quantity screw, it is necessary to bring the engine speed to a value of 750 - 800 rpm.
  5. The quality screw must be set to maximum speed.
  6. The quantity screw must be set to 900 rpm.
  7. Further, using the quality screw, the speed must be reduced to 800.
  8. The quality screw must be tightened until the motor starts to work unstably. After the revolutions begin to float, it is necessary to turn the screw one or half a turn back.
  9. The quantity screw must be set to the required speed. For summer, the indicator is in the range of 800 - 900 rpm, for winter 900 - 1000 rpm.

On all cars of the "ninth" family, engines were equipped. The only exceptions are later modifications, on which the manufacturer installed injection power units. Far from being the most technically advanced vehicle, "nine" is still popular with motorists. This is largely due to the maintainability of the car and relatively low cost spare parts. In addition, a significant part of the restoration and adjustment work can be done by the owner on their own, including adjusting the VAZ-2109 and 21099 carburetor, adjusting and cleaning it.

This article will consider only those operations that every motorist can do with his own hands. Do not be afraid of a large number of manipulations - follow the instructions, be careful, and it will go no worse than in a service station. This way you can save time and reduce machine maintenance costs.

Preparing the carburetor for tuning

Before the adjustment of the VAZ-2109 carburetor and other modifications of the model begins, it is necessary to ensure unhindered access to its parts by removing contaminants. If the car is used regularly, then the carburetor needs external flushing only in the case of adjustment procedures or in order to clean the moving mechanisms when they are very dirty. External washing is carried out using a brush, a clean rag and a liquid capable of dissolving oil (gasoline, kerosene or a special cleaning compound). This procedure does not involve removing the carburetor and consists of the following steps:

The market offers special means for cleaning the device - in the form of sprays
  • cleaning and washing the carburetor from the outside;
  • release of the mesh filter of the float chamber from contamination;
  • removal of possible contaminants and foreign particles from the float chamber itself;
  • cleaning jets from possible deposits;

IMPORTANT. When using strong solvents, it should be borne in mind that under their influence non-metallic parts can be damaged, so it is better to wash them with gasoline.

The car owner should not have any questions with external cleaning, but as for how to clean the carburetor on the VAZ-21099 from the inside, this issue should be considered in more detail. In a specific case, we are talking about a float chamber. First you need to dismantle the air filter and remove the fuel hose. After the float chamber is dismantled, it is better not to touch the float itself, so as not to deform or damage the part. Also, do not turn the carburetor cap upside down.

Experts do not recommend flushing the float chamber using rags, since fibers may remain after it - it is more advisable in this case to use a rubber pear, removing fuel residues from the bottom of the chamber with it. If necessary, remove the contaminants at the bottom using a hard, thin brush, and repeat the manipulations with the rubber bulb. Removal of contaminants from the main fuel jets is carried out under the influence of compressed air. If the compressor unit is not available, you can use a conventional pump. If the jet is too clogged, cleaning is carried out using a thin copper wire. From this short guide, you were able to learn how to clean the carburetor and now you can proceed directly to the implementation of the adjustment procedures.

How to set up a VAZ-2109 and 21099 carburetor in a garage

According to the recommendations of experts, the adjustment of the VAZ-21099 carburetor should begin with a float chamber. Using this procedure, it is possible to check and establish the optimal fuel level. You need to configure by following the steps below:

Additionally, you can check how the edges of the floats are located relative to the mating surface of the cover, and if they are not parallel, adjust by acting on the float brackets.

How to adjust the throttle actuator

Before, you should check the degree of cable tension. If it turns out that the cable is sagging or its tension is too strong, then setting the VAZ-21099 carburetor involves starting to adjust the drive in such a way as to prevent the damper from completely closing. To do this, use the key on "13" and tighten the lug nut on the cable sheath. Next, with the same wrench, you need to gradually loosen the locknut.

1 - cap; 2 - locknut; 3 - cable nut

Now you can set the optimal distance between the carburetor and the tip of the nut. In this case, it should be noted that in the free position of the accelerator pedal, the damper must be completely closed. It remains only to tighten the nut and the setting can be considered complete.

How to adjust the air damper actuator

First, the free play of the thrust is subject to verification - this will require dismantling the air filter cover. The actuator settings can be considered correct only if the air damper is fully opened in the “recessed” position of its handle. If you find deviations from the norm, read the instructions on how to set up the carburetor on the VAZ-2109 by performing a series of adjustment manipulations.

Adjustment throttle valve- an important part of the carburetor tuning procedure

The drive setup process looks like this:

  1. Loosen the bolt that secures the rod to the lever. After that, you need to drown the drive handle and fully open the air damper by acting on its lever;
  2. Using pliers, pull the cable out of the sheath and tighten the fixing bolt;
  3. Next, you need to check how the damper closes when the handle of its drive is extended. Closing must occur to the end, otherwise you will have to repeat the adjustment operations.
  4. The adjustment should be made until you achieve full opening and closing of the damper in the extreme positions of the drive handle. Make sure that the lever in any of the positions does not come into contact with the cable jacket.

So, at this stage, you learned how to adjust the carburetor on the VAZ-2109 by setting the optimal working position of its throttle and air dampers. Now let's move on to adjusting the starting device and idling.

Self-adjusting trigger

The most accurate setting of the starting device by setting the starting clearances requires removing the carburetor from the machine. But first you need to make sure the integrity of the diaphragm of the trigger. To do this, unscrew the four bolts, remove the cover and inspect the diaphragm. If it is suitable for further use, you can continue to adjust, otherwise the part will have to be replaced.

Below is a list of sequentially performed operations, which describes how to adjust the VAZ-21099 carburetor by setting the starting device:

  1. First you need to close the air damper by turning its lever;
  2. Using a screwdriver, drown the trigger rod;
  3. The gap formed between the chamber wall and the damper must be measured, after which, its value should be compared with the calibration data (indicated by the manufacturer individually for each carburetor and car model);
  4. If the received data does not correspond to the nominal value, an adjustment should be made. The lock nut, which is located on the accelerator pump housing, should be loosened and the adjusting screw should be turned with a screwdriver until the required clearance is set;
  5. Now, having closed the air damper, it is necessary to measure the throttle clearance of the first chamber. Check the obtained data with the calibration table. If necessary, set the desired clearance by turning the damper adjusting screw.

It is likely that at this stage the tuning of the VAZ-2109 carburetor can be completed. If you need to adjust idling or achieve a reduction in fuel consumption, below you can find the relevant guide.

How to set idle speed with your own hands

It is the final step in the instructions on how to set up the carburetor on the VAZ-21099 and is carried out with a warm engine and switched on current consumers (heater, fan or headlights). During the setup process, follow the sequence of operations described below:

  1. Stop the engine and turn the quality screw all the way, then unscrew it three turns;
  2. Start the engine, open the air damper and, with the current consumers on, use the quantity screw to set the number of crankshaft revolutions within 750–800 per minute;
  3. By turning the quality screw, bring the speed to the maximum value, after which, set the quantity screw to 900 rpm;
  4. Further, with the help of a screw, the quantity should be reduced to 800 rpm. Continue turning it until the engine starts to run unsteadily. After that, unscrew the screw by 0.5–1 turn;
  5. Now, by manipulating the quantity screw, it is necessary to set the optimal speed values, which for the winter period are 900–1000 rpm, and for the summer period - 800–900 rpm.

If you did everything right, in this case, the adjusted carburetor ensures stable operation of the power unit in the speed range recommended by the manufacturer. At the same time, it is important that fuel consumption is minimal and only such a setting on the VAZ-2109 is considered correct.

The carburetor installed on the VAZ-21099 is responsible for the process of mixing gasoline and air in exact proportions. Fuel jets are used as control tools, the performance of which depends on the length and diameter of their through holes. Using jets with different characteristics, you can adjust the saturation of the working mixture. Therefore, if you always wanted to know if the VAZ-2109 carburetor is ready to experiment with your own car and set up the carburetor with your own hands, stock up on different jets and use this article as a guide.
