Volkswagen Sharan, 1999

Wonderful car, everything is thought out to the smallest detail! Bought for a trip to the Crimea, a family of 4 people. We went great! We spent the night in the car, no one was constrained. The second row of seats fold neatly into the front seats, so you don't have to leave anything outside. There are no complaints about the engine either, it is turbocharged, the volume is not large 1.8 (economically) and the plane flies at a speed of 150 km / h easily, probably more, but I didn’t want to risk it. And I’ll add another review about the body, it is galvanized (this speaks for itself), despite its age, there is no rust, much less rot on the car. Overall very happy with the car!

Volkswagen Sharan, 2002

Great car for all occasions! Practical, comfortable, good to use! Very reliable! "The bearer of kings", he lives up to his big name! German is German! At correct operation- minimum costs and maximum pleasure from driving this car! Great, comfortable, family car for long trips!

Volkswagen Sharan, 2002

The dynamics are good. Manageability is excellent. Comfort is sufficient, the interior is spacious and comfortable, the trunk is very large and affordable. MOT every 10,000 km, relatively inexpensive, THIS IS MY 2nd Sharan (on Sharans since 2003 TDI), now I have already bought the 3rd Sharan of 2006 for myself. Pros: it's easy in the city, but on the highway it's just cool and easy, the costs are average (it doesn't hurt). Cons: the suspension is good, but it takes asphalt joints harshly.

Volkswagen Sharan 1.9 TDI

Year of issue: 1998

Engine: 1.9 TDI

Greetings. I have been the owner of my Sharan for three years now. Under the hood tyanitolkayka 148 horses, tested on the "drums" (stand). Factory power, before the firmware was 110 hp. Mileage 510 thousand km. I took it in 2010 for 180 thousand rubles. A very strong feeling to tear off the hands of the former owners is still present. Updated almost everything, the original VAG turbine, starter, generator 120 amps. Racks original in a circle. Casting from Audi A6. Salon fabric and much more. The cabin is quiet, although on the street, the tractor purrs. Diesel is pleasant in everything, especially in traction on the bottoms, up to 2000 rpm it is already a tank. Passengers are shocked by the throw, kickdown when the slipper hits the floor.

The main feature of the VW Sharan itself is that it is an exact copy of the Ford Galaxy and Seat Alhambra, produced at the same factory in Portugal. Hence the common advantages and disadvantages of these Europeans. To the pluses VW Sharan first generation, which was produced from 1995 to 2010, can be attributed to a high level of reliability and durability of components and assemblies.

Also positive aspects in Sharan are good stability provided by the anti-skid system, and a fairly rich equipment.

There will be no problems with the further implementation of Volkswagen Sharan - belonging to the leading concern of the German automobile industry affects.

Spare parts, both new and used, will not create a headache either, because they fit from the Seat Alhambra, the car is the same. The salon boasts not only a high level of transformation and comfort, but also comfort, spaciousness and high-quality finishing materials. Engine 1.9TDI 81kW (110 hp) AVG type has long been known as a powerful, reliable and economical unit that consumes no more than 6 liters of fuel on the highway and 10 liters / 100 km in the city.

Turbine durable, when properly used cares for up to 300 thousand kilometers. But besides all of the above, 1.9TDI can be chip-tuned with a power increase of up to 30%. True, the cost of all the bells and whistles with the work will cost from 600 to 1000 "forever green".

In the transmission of the most trouble-free and durable is the checkpoint. mechanical box gear only occasionally requires intervention - . The brakes are very effective, and the main advantage of the body can be safely called a roomy trunk.

Speaking of disadvantages VW Sharan I, then first of all I would note the poor build quality. Certainly, compared with Russian assembly Portuguese is head and shoulders above, but when compared with the German one, the more the VW nameplate obliges, then the score is not in favor of Portugal. Another important disadvantage can be called quite expensive spare parts. If other cars can be found cheaper, brought from England, then from used spare parts for Sharan you will not find anything English, he is not listed there as a car for an Englishman. The disadvantages of the design include insufficient visibility - due to the wide front pillars, the dimensions of the hood are not visible, although this is a matter of habit.

From 1.9TDI engine, despite its high reliability, surprises can also be expected, but mainly from improper operation.

First, maintenance and repair of this power unit you can only trust qualified specialists, for example, those who work.

Secondly, 1.9TDI motor does not like heavy loads and overheating, from which it can pierce the cylinder head gasket, and even cracks appear with a run of 250 thousand km. So try not to go over 4,500 rpm and keep an eye on the temperature.

Thirdly 1.9TDI is very capricious about the quality of oil and fuel. From poor quality engine oil there may be problems with starting in winter, so do not skimp on a good company, especially since cheap brands of oil cannot be trusted - fakes can often come across.

To avoid problems with the Volkswagen Sharan fuel equipment, use only clean and high-quality fuel with a cetane number of at least 51, otherwise the injection control unit will fly out due to paraffins and dirt. And do not forget that it is absolutely impossible to drive on a dry tank - a very expensive fuel pump will fail. Subject to these conditions up to 250 thousand km you will not have problems with fuel equipment.

electrical equipment VW Sharan I, unfortunately, cannot boast of a high level of reliability. They couldn’t even arrange it successfully, but put it under front seat, where in winter it is constantly damp, humid and salt can get in.

The front suspension proved to be short-lived, stabilizer struts can withstand only 40 thousand kilometers on our roads, bushings take care of the same amount rear stabilizer, and the front silent blocks are only 10 thousand km more. And in general consumables for the entire Volkswagen Sharan suspension are not happy with prices. The chassis is also quite problematic and short-lived, besides, the camber angle of the front wheels is not adjustable and if the camber is incorrect, you will have to change the rack assembly.

The main disadvantage of the body can be called scarce and poor location of the radiator and air conditioning pipes, which are fixed too low under the bottom, so all the road salt and dirt settles on them.

When buying a car, I had a lot of problems with choosing a model. Therefore, I would like to share my opinion about this brand with potential buyers of Sharan (maybe it will help someone).

Before Sharan, I had a petrol Fiesta with a Zetec engine. By the way, it is also a good and fairly reliable machine, though very small. So Sharan's consumption was very striking: on the highway with a cruising speed of ~ 100 km / h, the consumption is 5.8 liters (like the Fiesta), and the machine is almost 2 tons in weight; if ~ 120 km / h, then the consumption is 6.8 l; in the city, depending on traffic conditions (traffic jams) - from 7.3 liters to 10 liters. (the current consumption is shown by the on-board computer).

In many internet sources, swing rear doors Sharan are noted as a disadvantage, but it seems to me that the door on curtains is more reliable and simple than on rails. Yes, and in operation I do not feel any inconvenience and rear passengers too.

The ground clearance is quite high. In the courtyards, sometimes there is a problem with parking, so he can easily drive onto the curb without much difficulty. The only thing is that it’s inconvenient for my 4-year-old son to climb into the salon (a little high), but that’s okay, he will grow up.

Often there is information that the front stabilizer struts serve quite a bit (about 10 thousand km). My opinion is that it all depends on the roads and driving style. I did not change the racks after the purchase, I have already traveled 12 thousand km. And I haven't seen any problems yet.

So, I bought Sharan: I replaced the timing belt with two rollers ($85), replaced all filters (~$45), upper bearings with bearings (~$30), of course oil. I went ... After driving about three thousand, a big disappointment awaited me, I stood in the middle of the intersection (not a single gear turned on). Drove to the service station, began to understand. From anyone, but I did not expect this from the Germans ... It turned out that the burghers installed a tricky two-mass flywheel on models with a turbocharger. A dual-mass flywheel is not just a metal block, it is a whole spring-damping system. And so this system ordered to live long. In short, I wanted to buy a used flywheel (~$150), but everything I felt was, to put it mildly, worn out and not suitable for long-term operation. Then I decided to replace the entire clutch with a new, reliable and time-tested clutch with a conventional flywheel (the whole set cost me $ 600).

In winter, it started up without problems even at -19 degrees. However, at -21 degrees it did not start (I did not dilute the solarium with kerosene). Later I found out that our winter diesel fuel is designed for -20 degrees, then paraffin.

In general, the car is reliable. In the cabin, everything is located quite ergonomically. The trunk is just huge (without the third row of seats). With the second row folded, the length of the luggage compartment is about 1600mm. The suspension is stiffer, at least than on the '97 Passat B5. (traveled, I know). But still, the car is also designed to transport goods, including (what, in vain is a large trunk, or something).

Riding the Sharan is a pleasure for me. Manageability is excellent. I don't see any problems with visibility.
