Is it worth buying a ten-year-old Ford Focus 2. Choosing a Ford Focus II with mileage

Ford Focus - it's not only famous brand, but also high-quality equipment that over the years of use has shown itself with positive side. The first generation of these cars has been sold on secondary market and still remains relevant, despite the solid wear.

Now second-generation cars are entering the secondary market, and in this article we will try to evaluate how reliable these cars are, and whether they will be worse than their predecessors after a certain period of operation.

Body. Well, galvanization, as before, saves it from decay, but the paint failed, it quickly becomes cloudy from exposure to water, is prone to scratches, and peels off. The front bumper and the edge of the hood also quickly lose color, it would be nice to apply a protective film or anti-gravel coating on them. Already in the second year of use backlight contacts oxidized for car license plate.

Opening the hood with the key is still not a very pleasant pleasure, which brings with it a lot of problems. You can start with the fact that hands after such a case often remain in the mud, and the plastic bar that goes from the lock cylinder to the latch often breaks. Replacing the lock will cost 70 euros. Fortunately, there are craftsmen who put the same part, but already metal. The sedans often trunk stops opening, a part of the electrical wiring, which is unsuccessfully located, is tritely broken.

The headlights also suffer in the second generation, the bulbs burn out in them, and in order to repair the latter, you have to disassemble the entire headlight. The same thing happens with mirror heating filaments. The heater often requires increased attention to itself, the seat heating often stops working. The heating fan motor is generally a separate issue, having a cost of 240 euros, it can safely give up after 50 thousand km., The resistor burns out, but what if hear a squeal when shifting gears, then do not bother to lubricate the shaft bearings - it's useless, you need to change it.

Another cause of cooling in the cabin can be the engine. Gasoline engines of 1.8 and 2.0 liters received a thermostat that stops working without “working up” even 100 thousand km. The generator brings a little joy, it rarely fails before 150 thousand km. If he refused, then there is no need to rush to replace, often simple replacement brushes saves the situation. Please note that if the generator still fails, it is better not to go further on the battery, because the engine control unit will fall asleep so soundly that only proprietary equipment will have to be woken up.

With firmware electronic block management is also a lot of trouble. The Duratec 1.8 is most buggy, in which, with different versions of the software, the engine pulls weakly until it warms up, the idle speed jumps, it starts poorly, and when driving in tightness, it twitches.

In general, in Duratec 1.8 and 2.0 liter engines, as well as in the first generation of Focuses, the throttle body, ignition wires and coils create problems. Every 50,000 km. necessary clean throttle body, because it gets dirty quickly, if flushing does not help, then you just need to change the damper position sensor, which costs 70 euros.

It is also imperative to check the candle wells for oil deposits, they usually appear after 90,000 km. This means that it's time to change the valve cover gasket, which costs 30 euros. You can also try tighten the valve cover, because due to vibrations, its tightening has weakened. By this run, the vibrations may increase, because the upper hydraulic support at the motor is weakening. Its replacement will cost 90 euros.

On engines with a volume of 2 liters after 100,000 km. the dual-mass flywheel may fail, it will emit specific rattling, its replacement will cost 520 euros. If it is not changed in time, the consequences will be disastrous. There are still cases when, after 3000 rpm, traction disappears and the light comes on check engine, this means that it's time to change the valve that controls the intake manifold flaps for 85 euros.

In these motors, the only thing that does not require attention is the timing chain and drive, they can easily withstand 250,000 km. But on older engines with a volume of 1.4 and 1.6 liters, you need to change the timing belt every 80,000 km. These motors work on the first generation of the Focus, they are quite reliable.

There is another engine that began to be installed on the 2nd generation of the Focus - a 1.6 liter with a capacity of 115 hp. With. Ti-VCT, in which the mechanism for changing the valve timing works at the inlet and outlet. In this motor, this mechanism causes problems - the camshaft couplings are not characterized by particular reliability. After restyling in 2007, this node was finalized, and the problems disappeared by themselves.

In general, all Ford Focuses with gasoline engines have common weaknesses: a gasoline pump that requires high-quality fuel. The car may not start if the fuel pump screen is clogged. Here the difficulty lies in the fact that this mesh is not so easy to change, it comes complete with a gasoline pump, which costs 300 euros, and you will also have to pay another 150 euros for work, because you need to remove gas tank to change the fuel pump. But this is all the official course of events, now there are craftsmen who, for a modest payment, will be able to pick up a mesh and change it separately, leaving a serviceable fuel pump in the car.

But these are all trifles compared to another situation - converters costing 800 euros, they are not famous for their long service life and are located very close to exhaust manifold. These catalytic converters destroy excess fuel that did not burn out during a misfire and oil that entered the intake due to coked or worn piston rings. This problem is relevant when the engine consumes 1.5 liters of oil per 10,000 km. run. Rings may stick due to a late oil change. On cars whose mileage has exceeded 100 thousand km, the oil must be changed after 10,000 km, and not, as stated in the instructions, after 15,000 km. Also, the rings wear out faster if there is no proper cooling, so you should not be lazy clean radiators every year. In a particularly hot time, you may not notice that the engine has overheated, because the coolant temperature gauge is not very accurate.

There are also diesel modifications Focus, but it is very difficult to get them from us, because only 4% of them were produced. They require high-quality diesel fuel, if you refuel with unsuccessfully cheap diesel, then you will have a very expensive repair to restore the high-pressure fuel pump, the work alone will cost 500 euros, and the pump itself will cost 1000 euros. Also injectors need to be changed., and they cost 315 euros. So that after 100 thousand km. did not have to change the EGR valve for 400 euros, it should be cleaned of deposits. And of course, the 2-mass flywheel here creates the same problems as in 2-liter gasoline engines.

Transmission

A simple and, accordingly, reliable 4F27E automatic transmission is installed on the Focuses, it is not famous for its special speed, it is also installed on the Ford Escort, Mazda 3rd and 6th series, it no longer has such problems that were on the old Focus. The only thing that can happen unpleasantly, and even then, is due to the fault of the valve body, pressure sensors and pressure regulator solenoids. If a install a new hydraulic unit, then this is minus 1300 euros, but it can be restored for 600 euros. Solenoids will cost 100 euros, pressure sensors 110 euros.

The mechanical box, on the contrary, is less reliable in the 2nd generation Focuses. The 5-speed manual IB5, which is equipped with a 1.8-liter Dutatec engine, can fail after 80,000 km if it is given a good load. Here, the axis of the satellites may break in the differential, after which it will appear hole in crankcase- the oil will start to flow out, which means that the box will require an expensive repair in the amount of 2500 euros. There are cases that after 100,000 km. a howl appears from the bearing in the input shaft, if it is not changed, it can jam, and then the box will also require expensive repairs.

If such breakdowns occur, then it is not necessary to repair the box or buy the same new one, it makes sense to install another 5-speed gearbox, namely the MTX75, which goes to 2-liter engines. It is already stronger and fits the 1.8 liter engine without any problems. Regardless of which box is installed, you should keep an eye on the oil seals and the seal of the gearshift rod. Quite often, the rod can poison the oil, this should not be, otherwise the slightest lack of oil will cause the gear rims of the gears and shafts to become unusable.

There were cases that after 60,000 km. went out of order release bearing, the replacement of which cost 65 euros along with the clutch cylinder. The entire clutch costs 290 euros, so when the bearing is replaced, it is worth looking at the condition of all other clutch elements. Even if you drive carefully, the clutch will be able to work no more than 130 thousand km. If a transmissions will start, then this is not a reason to change the cable mechanism, just tighten the cables.

Suspension

There were no new surprises in the 2nd generation Focus suspension, the suspension remained the same as on the first generation - quite tenacious. In front - McPherson, in which wheel bearings do not live long - up to 60,000 km, and they must be changed as an assembly with a hub for 130 euros. Also to this run replacements require stabilizer struts, each of which will cost 26 euros. Further, after 80,000 km. usually the support bearings of the struts get tired, each of which costs 12 euros. And after 100,000 km. it will be necessary to change the levers that come complete with a ball joint and silent blocks for 150 euros.

Concerning rear suspension, then here is a multi-link, it is more durable, it can easily withstand 120,000 km. After this run, you need to sort it out - it will cost 520 euros. Silent blocks are assembled with levers, but there are craftsmen who can supply non-original silent blocks, thereby saving a little, but this is a more risky undertaking. In general, most of the rear suspension parts are the same as on the Mazda 3 Series.

Steering

After 60 thousand km. in the steering, you will have to change the rods, which cost 65 euros, the rack and pinion mechanisms begin to tap slightly by this run, they were often changed under warranty.

The Focus has an electric power steering, which can burn out the board that controls the pump. If this happens, you will have to change the entire unit for 700 euros. In cars with engines of 1.4 and 1.6 liters, there is a conventional hydraulic booster, which can fail in severe winter frosts. But this is not a reason to buy a new pump that is sensitive to hard frost. Condensation accumulates in the oil, which means that the check valves could freeze. It is enough to wait a little while the car warms up. To avoid such a situation in the future, it is necessary every 50,000 km. change the special oil in the power steering. By the way, oil can be either mineral or synthetic, as long as it matches the VIN code.

As a result, we see that the new generation of Focus has not become more reliable than the previous generation, but also worse machine also did not. The main advantages of Focuses are enough low price at the time of purchase, and the maintenance is not too expensive. If you buy a Ford Focus 2, then it is better to choose models from later years, because the early models are the same as the Focus 1 recent years release, only the first generation costs about 60,000 rubles cheaper than the second.

If we compare Focuses with other cars from this class, then the 2nd Focuses look more attractive than competitors such as Renault Megan 2 and Peugeot 307, which are 30,000 rubles cheaper. Concerning Japanese cars, then those are much more expensive than the Focus - the Mazda 3 series costs 40 thousand rubles more, and the Toyota Corolla is even more expensive - about 60,000 rubles.

Why did you love the second Ford Focus? For good consumer and driving performance, as well as the accessibility provided Russian assembly. We also note spacious salon, solid finish and a wide range of modifications. In addition, the Focus II has a reputation for being reliable and durable, without which it would have been impossible to count on a high rating. However, even here it was not without nuances. And they got out on second-hand copies.

Our Focus was officially offered with gasoline “fours” with a volume of 1.4 liters (80 hp), 1.6 liters (100 and 115 hp), 1.8 liters (125 hp) and 2 l (145 hp). Dealers also sold versions with a 1.8-liter turbodiesel with 115 horsepower, but there are very few of these modifications on the market. Infrequently found Focus and the base 1.4-liter engine. Such cars were purchased, as a rule, by corporate clients or in a taxi. Nevertheless, mechanics praise this motor - it has practically no congenital diseases. True, often the 1.4 unit is at the limit of its resource - due to its modest volume and power, it is usually “turned” to its fullest and it works “for wear and tear”.

And the 100-horsepower engine produced in South Africa is reputed to be the most reliable. The simple and condo design of this motor determines its excellent maintainability and low cost in operation. The main thing is not to forget to change the timing belt every 80,000 km (1,500 rubles). But this engine is also considered by many to be weak for modern car. Especially when paired with an "automatic". But its 115-horsepower counterpart, equipped with a variable valve timing system on the intake and exhaust shafts, has enough thrust in all modes. True, the phase shifter couplings do not differ in durability.

Optimal in terms of their capabilities are the "four" with a volume of 1.8 and 2 liters. But they are not deprived of ailments either. For example, engines are seen in increased consumption engine oil. If blue smoke is visible from exhaust pipe, it is better to refuse the car. The fact is that Ford policy does not imply the repair or replacement of piston rings and the pistons themselves, liners or crankshaft. The cylinder block with all the "offal" goes to the ejection.

But unlike weaker engines, the timing drive has a durable chain, the replacement of which will only be required by 200,000 km. Pay attention to the valve cover gasket (1000 rubles), which after 100,000 km is already starting to poison the oil. If tightening the bolts does not help, only replacement remains. By this time, as a rule, the upper hydraulic support of the engine also wears out (3500 rubles).

Causeless melancholy of motors - bad traction and cold start, ragged idle and increased consumption fuel - was associated with the unfinished software of the control unit. From the first Focus, the successor inherited not very durable ignition coils and high voltage wires, generators and fuel pumps. In our conditions, the throttle body and the exhaust gas recirculation valve become dirty rather quickly. Catalytic converters do not differ in mileage (from 29,000 rubles), the life expectancy of which depends on the oil consumption of the engine. If the appetite of the motor increases to 200 grams per 1000 km, you need to contact the service.

You can safely buy a version with a 1.8-liter turbodiesel. The unit is generally reliable. But loves quality fuel and regular service - maintenance is recommended every 10,000 km. If you water the engine with a diesel surrogate, the high pressure fuel pump (high pressure fuel pump) will not last more than 100,000 km. Repair or replacement - from 20,000 to 50,000 rubles. And in normal conditions it can withstand and 2-3 times longer. After 100 thousand, you will have to spend money on new injection nozzles (from 12,500 rubles), flush the exhaust gas recirculation valve ...

Progressive in design, the 1.6-liter engine (115 hp) is more powerful and more flexible than its 100-horsepower counterpart. But in terms of reliability, it cannot compete with it - on machines older than 2007, the hydraulic clutches of the variable valve timing system are short-lived

On the Focus II with 1.4 liter, 1.6 liter and 1.8 liter gasoline engines, a mechanical box of the IB5 series was installed as standard, which did not differ in a large margin of safety. When working with a high load, for example, the axis of the satellites in the differential may break, which often led to a hole in the crankcase and repairs for 100,000 rubles. If, during a test drive, “howls” are heard in the box, one hundred against one, that the input shaft bearing is to blame. It is impossible to pull with its replacement - the consequences can be costly.

But the other MTX75 box, aggregated with a 2-liter engine, is distinguished by a horse-drawn design and durability. True, seals and seals of the gearshift rod leak over time. But these are trifles. The main thing is to monitor the level of the transmission. Otherwise, oil starvation will lead to rapid wear of the shaft and gear rims. And further. This 2-liter gasoline engine (as well as a 1.8-liter turbodiesel) is equipped with a dual-mass flywheel, which wears out by 100,000 km. If you feel jerks when starting off and a characteristic rattling, do not delay replacing it. The part is expensive - from 25,000 rubles, but the consequences of the destruction caused by a failed flywheel will be much more serious.

As a result of the 2008 upgrade, the Focus had its front fenders, hood, bumpers, headlights and exterior mirrors updated, and the sidewalls of the body lost their moldings. The radiator grill appeared in the form of an inverted trapezoid. For all versions, except for the sedan, LED taillights began to be offered as an option.

The clutch can easily last 100,000 km or more if it were not for a weak release bearing made in a single unit with the clutch slave cylinder. After 50,000 km, it usually loses its performance.

But the "automatic" is quite reliable. He was put on various Ford models since the beginning of the 90s and today is almost completely devoid of congenital diseases. Unless on battered specimens, the valve body (about 25,000 rubles) and the pressure regulator solenoids fail. To extend the life of the box, servicemen recommend changing the oil every 60 thousand km.

Fully independent suspension(McPherson strut in front, complicated multi-link with thruster in the back) Focus II is quite strong. But there are weaknesses here too. These are strut bearings that “nourish” an average of 40-70 thousand km. The wheel bearings can withstand the same amount, which are replaced as an assembly with the hubs. When replacing, be careful - the ABS sensors built into the hub are often damaged during dismantling. With light knocks in the suspension after 30-50 thousand km, the stabilizer struts will make themselves felt. But the bushings withstand almost twice as much. Simultaneously with them, at 80-100 thousand km, the turn of updating the ball bearings complete with a lever and silent blocks will come. And then on the way and shock absorbers.

In steering, rod ends are usually enough for 50-80 thousand km. And the rail itself on the first machines even changed under warranty. But by 2008 it became more durable. Moreover, versions with 1.4 and 1.6 liter engines were equipped with a traditional hydraulic booster, and more powerful modifications came with an electro-hydraulic power steering, in which the pump control board could burn out. It is not repaired by dealers and is changed as an assembly for 28,000 rubles.

As for the body, its metal is reliably protected from corrosion. But the paintwork let us down. Burnt paint, faded bumpers and hood, partially sandblasted sills and darkened decor details are more likely signs of natural aging than barbaric exploitation. Corrosion appears most quickly at the point of contact of the chrome lining with the body. The contacts of the license plate illumination for hatchbacks and sedans are short-lived. And in winter, due to moisture, the touch button of the lock freezes luggage compartment. The key-operated bonnet lock remains the talk of the tongue - a signature feature of the model since the first generation. In order for it to open on demand, it is better to apply lubricant to the inner surface of the branded emblem that covers the lock cylinder. And to solve this issue radically, change the regular plastic lock (3500 rubles) for a metal one from Mondeo. Please note that the failure of the central lock blocks not only the doors, but also the gas tank hatch. On models with a sedan body, the wiring harness that supplies power to the lights on the trunk lid often breaks.

Buy or not? On the one hand, the Ford Focus does not shine with high reliability, but on the other hand, it has no obvious failures. In addition, owners of seemingly not the most prosperous 1.8- and 2-liter versions may never encounter the above problems - according to statistics, they are found in about a third of all Focus on the market. So, there are not so many chances to run into a problematic car. And to minimize the risk, listen to the advice from Auto Mail.Ru.

06.09.2016

The Ford Focus 2 was one of the best selling golf cars between 2005 and 2008. It was expected from the second generation of the Focus that it would be sold in the same quantities as the first generation, and today we can safely say that the developers did not fail and the car became very popular among motorists and fully met their expectations. Ford Focus 2 is available in three types bodies - sedan, three and five-door hatchback and station wagon. Mostly in the secondary market there are cars of Spanish, German and Russian assembly.

Ford Focus 2 began to be produced in 2005, and almost after the start of sales, the car became one of the leaders in sales due to an adequate price, high-quality assembly and large selection configurations. In 2008, the manufacturer carried out a restyling, after which the car acquired a more charismatic and modern design. In the secondary market, the second generation of cars can be found in various trim levels, from the basic "Ambiente" to the top "Titanium". In total, buyers were offered five configurations to choose from.

Weaknesses Ford Focus 2 with mileage

For the Ford Focus 2, four gasoline engines 1.4 (80 hp), 1.6 (100 hp), 1.8 (125 hp) and 2.0 (145 hp), as well as diesel versions 1.6 (90 and 109 hp), 1.8 (115 hp) and 2.0 (136 hp). The 1.4 power unit is quite rare and only on cars in the basic configuration, most of the cars with such an engine have practically exhausted their resources today, since such cars were mainly bought in a taxi fleet. Motor 1.8 can present a lot of negative emotions, the main problem lies in throttle and the control unit, because of this, the engine may stall and does not start the first time, but on idle speed swim constantly. This problem is treated by installing firmware from two liter engine. Also, when choosing a car with a 1.8 engine, you need to make sure that it is dry, as it often breaks through the valve cover gaskets and cylinder heads.

During the operation of a car with a gasoline engine, you need to be prepared for high fuel costs. So, for example, a 1.6-liter engine paired with mechanics in the city consumes 10-11 liters per hundred, and in a two-liter engine with an active driving mother, the consumption can be up to 15 liters per hundred kilometers. Diesel engines demonstrate unpretentiousness in work, excellent traction and moderate fuel consumption (6 - 8 liters per 100 km), however, it must be remembered that diesel engine sensitive to the quality of diesel fuel.

Transmission

All engines except 1.4 could be equipped with an automatic transmission or a manual transmission, with a 1.4 engine only a manual transmission was installed. All motors paired with manual transmission provide a good dynamic ride. Unfortunately, such words cannot be said about the automatic transmission, since it works quite slowly. Both transmissions have a considerable resource of work and are considered one of the main advantages of the second generation Ford Focus, even cars with a mileage of more than 150,000 km do not cause any particular complaints in this regard.

A manual transmission can give a nasty surprise in the form of difficult reverse gear shifting, which is accompanied by a crunch, this problem is due to the lack of synchronizers, therefore, after constant mishandling reverse gear starts flying. It is this drawback that you should pay attention to when choosing a Ford Focus 2 with mileage.

Reliability suspension Ford Focus 2

If we talk about the Ford Focus 2 suspension, then first we need to mention that its design is quite unusual, as for a golf class car of that time, here MacPherson is installed in front and a multi-link in the back. This arrangement gives the car excellent handling and a good ride.

Resource of front suspension parts:

  • The original stabilizer struts and bushings have a resource of 50 - 70 thousand km.
  • Silent blocks are able to serve 90 - 100 thousand km.
  • Thrust bearings run up to 90,000 kilometers.
  • Ball bearings 100 - 120 thousand km.
  • Wheel bearings will last no more than 100,000 km.
  • Shock absorbers 120 - 150 thousand km.

Rear suspension if you ride in big city on a good road and occasionally move out onto a country road, it will last up to 100 thousand km, and if on bad roads, then the lines of service will be no more than 70,000 km. And if the rear suspension required repair, then it is better to do overhaul if you do not want to visit the service station once a week.

Salon.

The Ford Focus 2 interior is aesthetic and concise, and it will be quite comfortable for a driver of average height to sit, however, there are many reviews from tall owners (185 cm and above) that there will be not enough legroom, and there will also be little space for a passenger sitting behind the driver. On the forums, the owners in their reviews claim that many crickets settle in the interior of cars assembled at a Russian factory over time, and cars brought from Spain or Germany do not have such a drawback. But as domestic operating experience has shown, cars that are assembled in the European Union do have better interior trim materials, but they also appear in them over time. extraneous sounds and the older the car, the more sounds.

Outcome:

Ford Focus 2 has a small number of shortcomings, and in terms of value for money, the car remains the most attractive in its class. Most likely for this this car quite in demand in the secondary market to this day. When choosing this car with mileage, you need to be extremely careful, since cars of this brand are used in taxis and rentals, and there they are exploited mercilessly.

Advantages:

  • Reliability of engines and transmission.
  • Controllability.
  • Vinous and comfortable suspension.
  • Roomy interior.
  • Not expensive to maintain.
  • There are a large number of non-original spare parts on the market.

Flaws:

  • Weak paint finish.
  • High fuel consumption of gasoline engines.
  • Noisy salon.
  • Small trunk.

If you are or have been the owner of this brand of car, please share your experience, indicating the strengths and weak sides auto. Perhaps it is your review that will help others correctly.

I hope my report helps right choice when buying a used car and / or when servicing

today mileage is 201600 km. car end of 2010, titanium, white hatch, engine 1.6 115 hp Vsevolzhsk

I use the car every day. I drove 1200 kg on a trailer once, I drove 500 kg in the cabin, I drive on different tracks, average speed on the highway - 130-140 km / h. I do not force the car, but I do not regret it too much. she manages.

what he did in total:
40 t.km - pads, put TRW
50 t.km - stabilizer bar, changed both, put Febi
120 t.km - fluid replacement - for yourself, as they say
140 t.km - release valve died, changed clutch assembly, release original, disk and Sachs basket
150 t.km - timing and drive replacement, all original
150 t.km - replacement of discs and pads in a circle, put all TRW
180 t.km - I was driving on a crumbling battery, the brushes in the generator burned out, I changed it myself. brushes - 80 rubles, picked up in the store in size, also bought a new battery.
190 t.km - stabilizer struts, I bought cheap ones, they are already rattling. miser pays twice

what to do now:
salentbloki in the rear suspension, large salentblok front left arm, oporniki creaked the other day, sometimes creak, stabilizer bar, sometimes the stove whistles. also in the forest, the boot of the engine under the bumper was broken, and the PTF was denied, first one then the second, maybe it's the light bulbs, until I looked.
also raw power shaft seals. 3 years. until the hands reach. I know it's sick.
the rail sometimes taps on turns on the plates, sometimes not ... I don’t pay attention ...

rubber:
winter the first two seasons Velcro Conti, then bridge spikes icecruiser 7000 - excellent tires, for 3 seasons the spikes are almost all in place. on the second car Nordman 4 - after 3 seasons there were almost no spikes left, the runs are equivalent
summer - from the Michelin factory, noisy, but not erased, I gave it to my brother at some kind of run. put Kumho KU31 - very quiet soft, super holds on water, track - did not know what it was. now nordman sx - erases faster than bears but slower than kumho, not directed, throws in water ruts after 100 mph, also comfortable, on cut asphalt it is much noisier than kumho.

glass:
with heating and sensors, a cobblestone hit, put a Chinese XYG - it didn’t last long, everything was cracked from the stones, the heating doesn’t work in some places, I’m going to change it soon

paintwork:
the saber has everything ideally, no chips, the saber is in color. on the hood is a large stone chip, slightly brown for 3 years. the corners of the rear fenders are slightly peeling, almost imperceptibly, and this is after removing the bumper to install the towbar. before that everything was great. in general, the car has a lot of lapping, all sorts of scoundrels lapped. does not affect speed.

consumption:
now 8.1 medium. every day there and back Podolsk-Moscow Belyaevo metro station. on the highway if you go 90, then less than 6 liters. I don't drive like that, so around 8.

by salon:
not a single button is worn, not wiped, the pedals do not shine, the steering wheel looks quite decent for its run, the plastic does not rattle, it does not creak, the gearbox cover is torn, a friend promised to sew it from good leather. seat of course zachuhannye, especially mine, because I always drive something. dry cleaning in the spring.

then: original iridium spark plugs every 50 t.km, first formula f oil, now castrol-ford 5w-30, cabin filter 2 times a year, air with oil change. I cleaned the throttle twice, I want to again, but my hands do not reach.

interesting but true:
shock absorber struts, hubs, ball, steering, etc. - still alive ... on a Hyundai at 100 thousand km, they completely sorted out the hodovka

result:
the car is worth the money. fast comfortable reliable. never regretted that he bought.

Salon is spacious. Kinks and bends are a thing of the past, but, to be honest, I don’t miss them at all. New interior albeit stricter, but clearly more functional. And more like a cockpit. Individuals will love it. The plastic is soft, the joints are even, the buttons are comfortable, you won’t find fault with the gaps.

Nikolay Svistun, portal site, 2005

A bit of history

Ford Focus second generation was born in 2004. Unlike the first Focus, the second was no longer a global car in the full sense: in the US, the Ford Focus 2 is a completely different model with its own design. Ford will return to unification only in 2011, when the third Focus debuts. Ford Focus 2 turned out to be noticeably larger than its predecessor and more conservative in appearance. Russian sales of the model began in 2005, and the restyled version reached our showrooms in 2008. The appearance of the updated car has become much more interesting due to the expressive trapezoid grille and new optics complex shape. In the cabin, even more soft plastic appeared and fashionable red lighting began to play.

Market offer

There are very, very many second "tricks" on the market: every day, hundreds of announcements about their sales are published on Russian Internet sites. Therefore, you should not rush into buying - look for a car that will suit you 100%. The most common body in our market is a sedan. The five-door hatchback comes with a slight lag. There are noticeably fewer station wagons, and three-door hatches are a rarity.

The Russians, as you know, are fans of fast driving, and the Ford Focus can only show at least some dynamics with a manual transmission. The most common versions are relatively inexpensive, but frisky configurations with 1.6 (115 hp) and 1.8 (125 hp) engines and manual transmission. Much less common are cars with an "automatic" and a 2.0-liter engine (145 hp) and a completely "boring" 1.6-liter engine, moreover, derated in this version from 115 to 100 hp. Well, quite exotic - the most dynamic "Tricks" with a 2.0-liter engine (about the same 145 hp) and mechanics, the most modest 1.4-liter (85 hp) models with manual transmission and diesel versions with a 1.8 engine liters (115 hp), again with mechanics.

Not everyone will decide to change chairs in a car. That is why their quality pleases especially. Here I would be happy to elevate them to the rank of dogma. And I would put it in all textbooks on orthopedics. Optimal distribution of loads with a minimum of adjustments: you get settled instantly and do not load your brain and hands by groping for numerous levers and buttons. Bravo!

Average prices

"Focus" of the second generation is getting cheaper quite smoothly. A noticeable difference (about 45,000 rubles on average) is only between cars of 2007 and 2008. Which, however, is not surprising: in 2008, the model went through a restyling, and more modern-looking models are expected to be valued higher on the market.

* On the vast majority of cars sold on the secondary market, the mileage is twisted. On average, a Russian driver drives about 20,000 kilometers a year. Therefore, a mileage of 60,000 km for a three-year-old copy is quite real, but 90,000 for a six-year-old is already suspicious. Therefore, do not take the odometer data on cars older than three years too seriously. Pay attention to the technical condition.

Typical breakdowns and problems in operation

Ford Focus 2 as a whole, the car is very reliable and unpretentious in maintenance. Problematic cars, of course, are found, but only if the owners operated them in a hard mode: they constantly twisted the engine, conquered off-road and neglected regular maintenance. To save yourself from unnecessary headaches in the future, here are what you should pay attention to first of all:

Body

metal quality and paintwork- good, and the body is strong. The only weak point is the joints rear bumper with wings where chips often form. Even on a four-five-year-old specimen, corrosion should not be anywhere. If it is noticeable, then the element was clearly painted after an accident. It would be useful to remind you once again that the entire body, upon purchase, must be checked with a micrometer for the thickness of the paint in order to filter out broken specimens.

Engine

On engines 1.4 and 1.6, the gas distribution mechanism has a belt drive, and on 1.8 and 2.0 it has a chain drive. The belt lasts a long time, it should be changed no more than once every 150,000 kilometers (in no case should it be tightened, because if it breaks, you can get to replace bent valves), and its condition is a good indicator of the true mileage, which, we repeat, very often twist. The test procedure is very simple: from the end of the engine block, find a soft plastic casing that protects the belt from dirt. Bend it back and look: it’s easy to distinguish the old from the new. The timing chain on engines 1.8 and 2.0 is installed for the entire service life, however, after 150 thousand runs, it begins to gradually stretch. Ask the seller to start the car on a cold one and turn on the gas. There shouldn't be a "churring" sound or crackle when you let off the gas. If it is, the car is very "rolled", no matter what numbers are displayed on the odometer. Motors on the Focus also do not have a tendency to burn oil. And in general, they don’t cause any problems, if you don’t often “twist” them and change consumables in a timely manner. By the way, original candles ignitions here are platinum and have a very long service life - up to 120,000 kilometers. When inspecting a car, be sure to unscrew one candle and see: if it is not the original, then the mileage is clearly more than 120,000 km. But it's hardly worth buying a Focus with a small engine, especially if you want it to drive a little. You will not notice a difference in fuel consumption, moreover: on weak engines you have to work more actively with the gas pedal, which is why gasoline consumption will only increase, other things being equal.

Transmission

Focuses of the second generation were equipped with two types of 5-speed manual transmissions. For cars with engines 1.4 and 1.6 there was one modification, for 1.8 and 2.0 - another. First, for small engines, less reliable. When buying a car with power units it makes sense to check the box very carefully: listen to the rumble in motion with the radio and stove turned off, make sure that all gears are switched on clearly - synchronizers and the input shaft bearing often fail here. As for cars with powerful "engines", their mechanical boxes practically indestructible. You can break them, except by constantly operating the car in forced mode. "Automatic machines" on the Ford Focus 2 are also very reliable: time-tested American 4-speed gearboxes were installed on all versions. The oil in them is filled for the entire service life, and if the owner did not have the ambitions of a racer, then the automatic transmission will last a very long time.

Suspension

The running gear of the Ford Focus is very good. It is balanced both for swallowing bumps and for very active taxiing. Weakness- rear suspension arms, which are recommended to be changed every 60,000 - 70,000 kilometers. Many owners manage with half-measures and change only silent blocks, but on broken levers, the resource of "rubber bands" is greatly reduced and new ones will have to be installed already in 10-20 thousand. The remaining elements of the chassis are very durable. steering rack"walks" for a very long time: it is designed in such a way that it practically does not deform even with frequent overcoming of very bumpy roads.

Electrician

as such serious problems it does not happen with an electrician at "Focuses", unless handicraftsmen have had time to "work" with it. Take a close look engine compartment on the subject of "collective farm" twists from electrical tape - they should not be. The factory connectors here are of very high quality: almost all are silver-plated and in some places even gold-plated.

Scheduled Maintenance

THAT Ford Focus takes place every 20,000 kilometers, although it will not be superfluous to change the oil in the middle of an interservice run. Brake fluid is changed every 2 years. The clutch lasts at least 100,000 kilometers. Antifreeze even changes every 10 years or after 240,000 kilometers.

The cost of maintenance at official dealers

The upkeep of the Ford Focus, when compared to its class competitors (especially the Japanese ones), is not expensive at all. The frequency of maintenance is two times less than that of Toyota! The cost of them, even if do u official dealers, is also very low. It is worth mentioning here, however, that Ford dealers do not directly quote prices for scheduled maintenance and issue information only on the cost of individual works, as well as the regulations for the replacement of consumables. Definitely, if you contact them with a specific car, the price will be higher: a scheduled check of the units will be added, as well as the consumables themselves.
