Oral folk art has always been developed in Russia. Probably, there is no topic on which we would not find a good saying or proverb. About birds, for example, there are thousands of sayings. Many of them are able to surprise listeners with their genuine wisdom and beauty. And it is about these pearls of folk art that we will talk below.
Amazing metaphor language
Quite often, proverbs and sayings about birds try to convey some hidden meaning to their audience. It can be friendly advice, a lesson or a lesson hidden behind a beautiful metaphor. At the same time, such a message can touch on both quite ordinary topics and high moral principles.
For example, we give the following sayings and proverbs about birds:
- "Birds are not praised for their feathers and wings."
- "In its nest, even a dove will peck out a crow's eye."
- "Every sandpiper praises his marsh master."
- "A good bird in its nest is always a craftsman."
- “Alone, even a goose cannot trample the fields.”
- "Even a dove does not fly up to a bad person."
Proverbs about birds built on observation
The Slavs loved nature and watched it. Over the years, this has borne fruit - they have learned to understand the world around them. Our ancestors knew that, despite all the whims, nature adheres to certain laws. For example, if we talk about the world of birds, then the return of ducks home indicated that the long-awaited warmth would soon come.
Therefore, it is not surprising that many proverbs about birds are a reflection of observations of wildlife. For example:
- "Swans fly to the snow, and geese to the rain."
- "Even the little bird is brave in its nest."
- “How high the crane does not fly, but it does not fly far from the water.”
- "Swallows fly low - to be rain."
- "The hawk catches its prey, and the kite takes it away."
Proverbs-comparisons
And yet, most proverbs and sayings are built on the principle of comparison. That is, certain human traits are compared with their analogies in the feathered kingdom. This way of presenting information allows you to pay attention to some moral and spiritual problems that people often have. The following proverbs about birds can serve as vivid evidence of this:
- "Wings are important for a bird, but intelligence is important for a man."
- "A hawk is recognized by its flight, and a trickster by its gait."
- "The bird is deceived by sweet food, and the man by sweet speeches."
- "Even a sparrow does not walk all his life in the same feathers."
- "Looks like a noble eagle, but with the mind - like a forest black grouse."
- "Although the chest is swan, but the gait of a peacock."

Chick-chick-chick!
Chickens! There is water in a tub.
Who is afraid of me
I will not give water to him.
Here are the chickens running
Not afraid of Natka.
Near the tub is a saucer -
They all get drunk.
Chicken-ryabushechka, where did you go?
To the river.
Kurrchka-ryabushechka, Why did you go?
For water.
Chicken ryabushechka, Why do you need some water?
water the chickens,
Chicken ryabushechka, How do chickens ask for a drink?
Wee-wee-wee, wee-wee-wee!
Cockerel, cockerel,
golden scallop,
butter head,
Silk beard!
That you get up early
Do you let the kids sleep?
Geese, you geese
Red paws!
Where have you been? What did you hear?
Where did you see Vanyushin's mother?
And Vanyushin's mother
Walking in the field
collects flowers,
The wreath curls Vanyusha to his own.
Chicks, chicks, chicks!
A goose rides on a stick
duck on a pipe,
chicken on a chock,
Bunny on a wheelbarrow
Boy on a dog.
Oh, you owl-owl,
You are a big head!
You were sitting on a tree
You turned your head
Fell into the grass
Rolled into the hole!
Here is an owl-owl -
Big head
Sitting on a tree
Turns his head.
Looking in all directions
And he says to everyone:
Nobody beats the owl
And he doesn't pull on his ears.
Geese, you geese
Red paws!
Where have you been
What did you see?
We saw a wolf:
The wolf took the gosling,
Yes, the very best
Yes, the biggest!
Geese, you geese
Red paws!
Pinch the wolf -
Save the gosling!
The night has come
Darkness brought;
The cockerel dozed off
The cricket sang.
It's too late, son
Lie down on the barrel
Bye-bye, go to sleep...
Our ducks in the morning -
Quack-quack-quack! Quack-quack-quack!
Our geese by the pond -
Ha-ha-ha! Ha-ha-ha!
And a turkey in the yard -
Ball-ball-ball! Baldy-balda!
A swan floats along the river,
Above the bank carries the head,
Waving a white wing
She shakes off water on the flowers.
Bullfinches-bullfinches.
In the courtyard by the door.
I poured over the threshold
Buckwheat, seeds, cottage cheese.
And when I went out,
I heard from them:
You are kinder than all the guys
And faster, Grisha!

Nightingale
(excerpt)
On the hill, through the green grove,
At the brilliance of a bright stream,
Under the shelter of a quiet May night,
In the distance I hear a nightingale.
On the winds light, fragrant
Now his whistle, then the ringing flies,
That, we drown out the noise with water,
Sweet sigh languishes.

Chick-chirp!
It's warm already. And sometimes
A loud cry is heard from the garden.
Then there are a crowd of sparrows
They shout on the branches: “Chick-chirp!”
Satisfied birds that from the clouds
The sun will peek out for them for a moment;
They meet this beam
Cheerful cry: chirp-chirp!
That ray whispers to them that the earth
Everything will soon become like a flower garden,
Drown in the greenery of the field...
And louder you hear: chirp-chirp!

Sparrow wanted to swing
Our sparrow swing
wanted
On a visit to a thin blade of grass
arrived,
Sat on the very top -
qin qirin:
"Shake me, you were a little girl,
throw it up!..”
A blade of grass sways in the wind.
Oh how the sun shines bright
in the morning!
Oh, how fun when in the world
May!
You are a sparrow, a blade of grass,
shake it!

spotted woodpecker
And from the top - knock-knock-knock,
There is a woodpecker knock.
He hammers the bark with his beak,
Looking for food in it to the table.
Let's get closer to him.
Just don’t shout: “I don’t see!” -
You will scare the bird with this,
And then you won't find it.
Here is the woodpecker in front of us.
He is busy again.
Hollows all his hollow -
The bird will be warm there.
The bird has a strong beak,
They work - a craftswoman.
Just hear her knock -
Knock-knock-knock, knock-knock-knock.
Jay
We will enter the forest from the edge,
We will find many miracles there.
Shouted smartly from the branch
Us mistress of the forest - jay.
lark
The dark forest glowed in the sun,
In the valley of steam, thin whitens,
And sang an early song
In azure the lark is sonorous.
Sings, sparkling in the sun:
Spring came to us young,
Here I sing the drive of spring!..

For the curious
Birds
Birds probably evolved from reptiles and, like them, lay hard-shelled eggs. The scales of reptiles turned into feathers, and the forelimbs turned into wings.
Birds have one significant advantage over reptiles. The body temperature of reptiles changes with the air temperature, and in order to stock up on heat, they are forced to bask in the sun. Birds, like mammals, are warm-blooded, that is, their bodies maintain a constant temperature, regardless of air temperature.
The initial plumage of birds was formed forkeeping the body warm. And only later the wings began to serve for flight.
feathered birds
All modern birds can be divided into 27 orders, although there is no generally accepted system in the field of bird classification, and the approaches of different researchers often do not coincide. In the smallest detachment, there is only one species - the ostrich.
The most numerous group of passerines(Passeriformes), it has over 5100 species. Among them are birds such as sparrows, warblers, starlings, finches, crows, blackbirds, swallows, cardinals, etc.
Other orders include rhea, penguins, loons, grebes, albatrosses, pelicans, ducks, birds of prey, owls, game birds, cranes, herons, snipes, gulls, pigeons, parrots, swifts, kingfishers and woodpeckers.
Birds are an extremely prosperous class of animals. Other than bats, birds are the only vertebrates that can fly. At the same time, birds have managed to adapt to life in a variety of conditions and eat a variety of foods.
Their success in the struggle for existence is connected both with the ability to fly and with the ability of their body to change following changes in external conditions - to adapt.
Where do birds live?
Ostriches - in Africa; gull kingfisher - in Australia; pintail duck - in Europe and North America; crossbill - in Europe, Asia and North America.
Food, beaks and paws
How birds have adapted in the process of evolution is most clearly seen in the structure of their beaks and paws. For example, meat-eating birds usually have a hooked beak suitable fortearing raw meat, and sharp claws on the paws to grab the victim.
Birds of prey, depending on size and habitat, can eat everything from insects and small mammals tosquirrels and monkeys. Some predators are very picky about food. So, the secretary bird catches only snakes and lizards, and the osprey feeds exclusively on fish. The same group includes vultures that eat carrion. Many vultures have a bare neck, which is convenient for birds., who stick their heads between the bones of the skeleton of a dead animal.
Waterfowl are usually equipped with webbed feet, penguins using their wings to"flying" under water, just grab the fish, chasing it.
The common kingfisher, heron or cormorant use their long, sharp beaks like harpoons. The puffin can pull up to 30 small fishes in its amazing beak. The pelican catches fish by plunging into the water, like a net, a huge, bucket-like beak.
Insects can be found almost everywhere in myriad quantities, which is why many species of birds feed on them. Flycatchers, larks, skates, thrushes, warblers seek out insects from cracks in the bark. Woodcocks and hoopoes find worms in the ground.
The woodpecker drills holes in the bark of a tree and seeks out insects with a surprisingly long tongue, the end of which is seated with sharp spikes. Swallows, swifts, nightjars and other birds grab insects on the fly.
Cranes, herons, coots, snipes have long legs with widely spaced toes. Thanks to their long beaks, they can search for small animals in mud, sand or shallow water. The herring gull smashes mussel shells to smithereens, throwing them from a height onto the rocks.
Woodpecker finches extract beetle larvae from dead trees with a cactus needle.
Many insectivorous birds also eat seeds and fruits. For example, tits, starlings, blackbirds, crows and gulls are omnivorous animals, and they say about the Australian gull kingfisher that he eats everything he gets. He kills the caught snake by throwing it down from a height.
Other types of birds are herbivores. Ducks gather herbs and aquatic plants with their wide, flat beaks.
Short-nosed finches mainly eat plant seeds.
The beak of the crossbill is well adapted to extracting mature seeds from the cones of coniferous trees.
Parrots feed on various tropical fruits and seeds. A slightly curved beak and an extremely mobile tongue help them to get food.
reproduction
Unlike reptiles, birds incubate their eggs and take care of their offspring. The mating season often begins with an elaborate courtship ritual during which the male and female appear to introduce themselves to each other. The purpose of this behavior, which looks strange from the outside, is to confirm that both partners belong to the same species and are ready to mate.
Most birds lay their eggs in nests, sometimes just depressions in the ground or structures in trees or bushes.
Chicks hatched from eggs are cared for by either one or both parents. Some chicks can run and feed on their own hours or days after hatching. Others are born blind and naked or slightly pubescent. They have to stay in the nest for several weeks and even months.
skillful builders
Weavers are small birds of the passerine order. Most of them feed on seeds. Some types of weavers became famous as skilled builders. With their beaks and paws, they weave a nest from plant fibers in the form of a hanging hollow ball with a cylindrical narrow entrance.
Colonial species of weavers build a very large reed nest that houses several dozen or even hundreds of eggs.
Robber Cuckoo
European cuckoos (and a few other species) lay their eggs in other people's nests. The cuckoo throws its eggs into the nests of small birds in the absence of the owners. A cuckoo hatched from an egg, although naked and blind, throws eggs or chicks of host birds that have already been born out of the nest. After that, all the attention of the adoptive parents is focused on the cuckoo, which they continue to feed until it grows larger than them.
The adoptive parents are unlikely to ever know that this huge chick is an impostor.

Expanding our horizons...
Summer is a time of worries and worries for birds and animals. Cubs born in spring days are growing up: foxes, wolf cubs, elks, deer. Many birds had chicks already at the very beginning of summer, and parents have to work hard to feed them. Only the cuckoo does not know maternal worries and anxieties: her children are brought up by other birds, in whose nests she lays her eggs. In all other respects, the behavior of the cuckoo is impeccable: it exterminates many harmful insects, especially the hairy caterpillars of various silkworms, which are hardly eaten by other birds.
By autumn, the number of insects decreases, it becomes colder. Many birds gather in flocks before a long journey to warm countries. Swifts, swallows and nightingales are the first to fly away from us.
In winter, many animals and birds are very hungry, for them you can arrange a table in the garden or a feeder near the window and put there every day crumbs of bread, seeds, grains, and for titmouse - a small piece of lard. Birds will gradually begin to fly to the feeders. Sparrows will fly first, followed by a yellow-breasted titmouse, then a second, a third. Titmouse will seek out seeds, deftly pick them up and fly off to the branches of a neighboring tree to feast on delicious sunflowers. Then the titmouse will become bolder, they will peck at the seeds right on the dining table.
