The LuAZ steering system is the most complex of all existing ones, having a huge number of parts and, as a result, extremely difficult maintenance and repair of the steering wheel. Engine tuning

Tuning a luAZ with your own hands must begin with replacing the engine - the original car has a 1.2 liter engine with a capacity of only 40 hp. This is clearly not enough to go through difficult road sections. In addition, it is very noisy due to air cooling and unusually voracious - it “eats” more than 15 liters per 100 kilometers. Several upgrade options are used:

Engine crankcase conversion. The "native" crankcase is characterized by low strength - made of 3 mm thick steel, it will bend even from driving over bumps or falling into deep ruts. This sheet is either replaced with a more resistant one, or it is strengthened by welding on stiffeners along the edges;

Carburetor replacement. By installing a carburetor from any other machine, you will achieve improved engine starting and an increase in power up to 5 hp;

Complete replacement of the engine with another gasoline. In most cases, an engine with a VAZ is used, for example, a VAZ-2130, which has a volume of 1.7 liters and a power of 76.6 hp. You can also use an engine from Tavria (1.2 liters, 60 Horse power). This increases dynamics, especially at speeds above 70 km/h, reduces fuel consumption by up to 10 liters per 100 km and increases the maximum possible speed to 120 km/h;

Complete replacement of the engine with diesel. Much less often, a diesel engine is installed, for example, from Toyota with a volume of 1.5 liters. This contributes to the fact that when water enters the engine does not stall, increases traction, dynamics and controllability. It will not be superfluous to also put a gearbox corresponding to the new engine.

Chassis tuning

Changes in the chassis of the LuAZ are necessary, because it has low-quality parts, which, moreover, are practically absent on sale. Such changes allow you to achieve reliability when traveling long distances and high smoothness of movement even on difficult roads.




For this you need:

Strengthen or install modern suspension and gas shock absorbers;

Replace knuckles, CV joints and other parts to ensure the safety and reliability of the car.

Foreign analogues of a car of this class can be considered the Austrian SteyrPuch Haflinger with a 27-horsepower, two-cylinder engine. The Japanese Suzuki Samurai is also an equal competitor to the Luazik. German Volkswagen Iltis was no less popular in its homeland than the Soviet SUV. Its powerful 75 horsepower engine did an excellent job on any off-road. And of course, the American Hummer, originally created for the US Army.

2 Refinement of nodes - effective car tuning

Cars made in the last century still run briskly on our roads. The condition of their engine and chassis, of course, is different. And if your Luaz engine does not cause any complaints and does not "eat" a lot of fuel, you should not change it. But if it is very worn out, then you should think about replacing the unit with a donor one, since repairing old engines is often a waste of time. You can take the engine to an old luazik from the equally well-known brand VAZ 2101.

The installation of the motor itself is not particularly difficult. Problems arise when coordinating its actions with other machine systems. For example, the oil pan "penny" does not fit in the protection of the Lutsk car. But this trouble is solved by replacing the regular VAZ oil pump with the native Luaz one, boring the pulleys on the crankshaft and changing the generator. Difficulties also arise with the pairing of the engine and transmission. In this case, make an adjustment to the shape of the bell.

Further tuning will require a power steering device, which is simply necessary with such a lineup of a new motor, like that of Luaz. 3 How to create a cozy and comfortable salon?

Refinement of units and tuning of the LUAZ engine

If the standard engine is fully operational and there are no complaints about it, there is enough power and fuel consumption has not yet increased over the years of operation, then it is quite possible to get by with the native power unit. But if this is not the case, which is quite likely, then you can use a donor, because. it is pointless to resort to repairing such an old engine.

The so-called "heart" of the car even then was not quite suitable for this car, to say nothing of now. No improvements and upgrades will help here, the only correct solution would be to completely replace the power unit with another one, for example, from the VAZ family. For many lovers of this brand, it was successful to “make friends” with a LUAZ with a 1200 cc engine from.

Of course, you need to sweat a little, because. it’s easy to install an engine from a penny, but it’s quite difficult to coordinate its operation with other systems. The problem begins with the fact that the oil pan from the Zhiguli is not included in the standard LUAZ protection due to convex shapes.

This problem is solved by saving the configuration of the standard security plate, for which the oil pump on the donor engine is first changed. As a result of this, the pump, namely, its oil receiver, when compared with the classic one, is decently raised.

It remains only to fit the pallet. This protection involves the replacement of at least two more parts, because. pulley diameter crankshaft and the pump will be too big. Therefore, the pulleys will have to be machined from scratch. A regular generator with its 40 amps does not fit at all into the current idea of ​​\u200b\u200bthe energy consumption of a car.

To do this, you need to use at least a unit from an engine with 85 amperes from the same VAZ 2101. There may be slight difficulties with connecting the transmission and engine, as a result of which you will have to adjust the shape of the bell to match its retractors. It will not be superfluous to install a clutch from an inexpensive foreign car as a result.


You can’t do without inter-wheel blocking either. A rear diff is badly needed, it's fairly easy to fit into the front main pair. In this case, with a hard connection of the stern, the transmission is blocked completely. Both drives can be modified in the same way.

Before removing and upgrading the panel, you can start replacing the stove - the old one often fails and does not justify its purpose at all. But do not be zealous with tuning the panel - the maximum that can be done with it to maintain ergonomics is to cover it with leather or chrome.
