The Jeep Grand Cherokee goes perfectly along the highway, rolls are minimal, it doesn’t catch rutting, there is no buildup, now they don’t give a damn about the quality of the road, it seems that the suspension is generally impenetrable, excellent ride is not at the expense of handling. I read a lot in reviews about vibrations from sprung masses, so far I have never noticed in practice, maybe we just have good roads.

I took a Jeep Grand Cherokee in white with a bright interior, with black tinted windows - it looks very impressive (although it is a very easily soiled white color, you have to wash it more often). Many drivers slow down, look, look out the window, some at the gas station come up and ask. He himself is not delighted with such attention, suddenly the car will go into the rank of stolen. Comfort - feels like modern car. Complete silence in the cabin, even studded tires are not audible. Powerful music with a subwoofer, always dreamed about it, DVD, 30 GB hard drive, parking sensors, rear view camera, electric trunk. Even the light (near-far) switches itself.
There are two things that the Jeep Grand Cherokee did not immediately like. Plastic "under the tree" and weak lateral support of the seats. Everything else is just great. According to the "running" in general, I like everything. The suspension is not "pneumatic", but "swallows" the bumps in the road very well. A little rolly in corners, but it's still a jeep, not a sports car. The Jeep Grand Cherokee engine paired with the box is just wonderful. The most unexpected is the consumption of gasoline. Now the average consumption shows 14.7 liters, and this is the 92nd gasoline. In the city, about 17-18 liters, but on the highway no more than 10 at all. Unless, of course, you “light it up”.

In the mid-90s in Russia, the owners of the Grand Cherokee were considered very rich people - the SUV was a symbol of luxury and fabulous wealth. Although the car has been mass-produced since 1992, its history began much earlier.
The history of the creation of the Grand Cherokee begins in 1983, when the American company AMC prepared a compact SUV Jeep Cherokee (XJ). It was this model that served as the basis for the future Grand series. The American Motor Company began developing a new project in 1985, it was assumed that new model will seriously compete with cars of larger automobile concerns. 
In 1987, AMC was bought by Chrysler Corporation, but work on the creation of a new SUV was continued, although the Grand Cherokee went into serial production much later. The reason for such a long delay was the CEO of the company Lee Iacocca, he believed that the combined Jeep-Chrysler concern should produce minivans, and the debut of the Grand Cherokee was periodically postponed.
Presentation of the new car brand took place in 1992, for the first time the car was presented at the international auto show in Detroit, in the USA. In the same year, on April 19, the company began serial production cars, and cars went into mass sale since 1993.
Unlike classical frame SUVs all Grand Cherokee models have a steel one-piece body and have never had a frame fitted. Initially, the ZJ model was produced in three trim levels:
- basic (SE);
- loredo;
- limited.
In the basic version, the car was equipped with a fabric interior and a standard five-speed manual transmission. The SE trim did not have power windows and central locking, but provided for the driver's airbag and ABS system. Due to the small difference in the price of the Base (SE) trim levels, it was in little demand, and was soon discontinued. Instead, they began to produce Grand Cherokee equipped with Orvis (from 1995 to 1997), and then TSI (1997-99).
Since 1995 base machine was Laredo, the SUV package included:
- power windows of all doors;
- central locking;
- leather steering wheel;
- Cruise control.
The rims for the Jeep Grand Cherokee in this configuration were installed cast, five-spoke, with a radius of R15. 
The Limited is a premium model that boasts standard features such as:

Later, an eight-cylinder V8 gasoline engine with a volume of 5.2 liters appeared on the model, and since 1998 a 5.9-liter power unit with a capacity of 245 hp went into series. from. According to the Chrysler-Jeep company itself, in the Limited 5.9 configuration at that time, the Grand Cherokee was the fastest SUV in the world. The machine in this equipment was different:

Second generation model
The Grand Cherokee 2 was produced from 1999 to 2004, on this model the spare wheel was moved from the luggage compartment under the floor. The main innovation of this generation of SUVs is the advanced Quadra-Drive all-wheel drive system, which can operate in three modes:
- conventional four-wheel drive;
- four-wheel drive with reduction gear;

Changed to Grand Cherokee 2 the lineup engines - the old bulky ICEs of 5.2 and 5.9 liters were no longer installed, but in the line power units a lighter, economical 4.7-liter gasoline engine appeared, as well as a 3.1-liter diesel engine (5 cylinders) with a capacity of 140 horsepower. Of the old engines, only a 4-liter six-cylinder internal combustion engine remained, but it was modernized - due to the refinement of the intake manifold, its power increased by 10 liters. from.
The WJ SUV is equipped with only two types of automatic transmission - 45RFE and 545RFE. Unlike the standard four-stage automatic transmission, in these boxes there are three sets of planetary gears, and not two, as is usually the case in 4-st. automatic transmission. Theoretically, this box can be called a 6-mortar, although in reality it uses 5 speeds - four regular and one reduction. But in the specifications, Chrysler indicated the automatic transmission as a 4-speed, and in 2001 the transmission was upgraded, and all 6 gears were involved in it. 
The interior of the WJ has been significantly improved compared to the first generation SUV:
- increased space for rear passengers;
- panel control has become more convenient;
- the on-board computer was placed at the level of the windshield.
The assembly of this model was carried out not only in the USA (Detroit), but in several other countries:

- Argentina;
- China;
- Venezuela.
In 2004, a small restyling was made on the car, the changes affected the fog lights, instrument panel and radiator grille. It should be noted that the Beijing Grand Cherokee WJ is still in production (as of April 2016).
Grand Cherokee WK debuted in 2004, first introduced in New York. This car was launched into the series a year later, and was produced until 2010. The following major changes have been made to this model:
- the four-wheel drive was modernized (the Quadra-Drive II system began to be used);
- improved sound insulation;
- a DVD player is installed in the rear seat area.
There have been changes in the line of power units:
- instead of a 4-liter V6, a 3.7-liter engine appeared;
- the model range was replenished with an 8-cylinder V8 petrol engine with a volume of 5.7 liters.
Due to the fact that SUV cars began to be in demand on the market, Chrysler changed its policy - the Cherokee WK no longer had a very high cross-country ability, and looked more like a crossover.
In 2008, the car was slightly upgraded:
- modified front bumper;
- changed front optics.
In the restyled version, the changes also affected the 4.7-liter engine, its power increased from 235 to 305 hp. from. 
The first "fourth" Grand Cherokee was shown at the New York Auto Show in 2009. This machine has been produced since 2010 to present time(2016). The creators of the model tried to keep the classic style for a jeep, but the forms are already characterized by modern streamlining.
