Named after the Iranian steppe tribes, the car perfectly copes with its "nomadic" duties, as it is considered one of the best crossovers for long trips. The debut version, as it sounds not surprising, was designed entirely in Europe, and the main market for the model is European countries. In the fall of 2013, the second-generation Qashqai was officially introduced, which is still considered one of the safest crossovers.

If we compare the appearance of the latest modifications of the models, we get the following picture - the exterior of the Kia Sportage looks very bold and dynamic. But in the exterior of Qashqai, the main emphasis is on its sportiness. The developers realized that they could not compete with the designers of Sportage, so they decided to surpass them in another way. The front end is more lowered than that of a competitor. Here you can see a small grille with chrome elements and acute-angled headlights. The embossed bumper is equipped with a large air intake and stylish foglights. As for the hood, unlike its counterpart, it is very wide and embossed.

The side of the crossover is somewhat reminiscent of the Sportage profile. The same small stampings, voluminous arches and a sloping roof. As a result, a completely contradictory situation develops, therefore, in comparing the interiors of cars, the most logical result will be a draw.

Sportage, for the domestic market, is equipped with a two-liter gasoline engine, as well as 1.6 and 2.0 liter diesel engines - they produce 150, 177 and 185 “horses”, respectively. As for Qashqai, 1.2 and 2.0 liter gasoline engines are offered here, with a power of 115 and 144 horsepower and diesel 1.6 with 130 hp.

If we talk about dimensions, then the Korean is 103 mm longer than its counterpart, 18 mm wider, and 50 mm higher. The Sportage is also on average 100 kg heavier than its competitor.

We were convinced of this when comparing the popular KIA Sportage and Nissan Qashqai crossovers.

The new KIA Sportage looks very expressive: elegant shapes, swift lines, sporty proportions. True, it seemed to some of us that from some angles it resembles a Subaru Tribeca crossover, but in general the car turned out to be harmonious. However, the Nissan Qashqai also looks peppy. Against the background of the "Korean", his appearance can be called classic - there is continuity with the model of the previous generation.

Sportage in Russia offers three power units. Two of them are gasoline: a 2-liter atmospheric one carries 150 hp, the second, a 1.6-liter turbocharged one, already develops 177 “horses”. Well, the most powerful engine is a 185-horsepower 2-liter turbodiesel. The initial, 150-horsepower version is available with front and all-wheel drive and 6-speed gearboxes - manual and automatic. Diesel modification it can only be all-wheel drive and with an “automatic”, while the intermediate 177-horsepower version is equipped with all-wheel drive and a 7-speed “robot” with two clutches. The price range for basic configurations is from 1,189,900 to 2,069,900 rubles.

The Qashqai engine range also consists of three units, one of which is turbodiesel. But if for the Sportage the “weakest” engine develops 150 hp, then the most powerful version of the Japanese crossover has “only” 144 hp under the hood. Such a return has a 2-liter gasoline engine. Also for the "Japanese" are offered a 1.2-liter 115-horsepower petrol turbo engine and a 1.6-liter diesel engine with 130 hp. (modification with a 1.2 liter engine is equipped with a front-wheel drive transmission only). Gearboxes - 6-speed "mechanics" or stepless variator. Diesel version it can only be with front-wheel drive and a CVT, and the client will find all four leading ones exclusively in the 2-liter modification, which is combined only with a CVT. And for front wheel drive both types of transmissions are available with this motor. Prices for the "base" start at 1,099,000 and end at 1,409,000 rubles.

It would seem that there are not so many points of contact between rivals, but we have selected the closest modifications for comparison. So, our KIA Sportage is equipped with a 150-horsepower engine, all-wheel drive, "automatic" and costs 1,479,900 rubles in the basic configuration. And the test Nissan Qashqai has a 144 hp unit under the hood, it has four-wheel drive and a CVT. Such equipment costs from 1,469,000 rubles.

In pursuit of quality

Recently, we have repeatedly noted that the interiors KIA cars in terms of quality, they are very close to the premium segment. Note this time. The interior is very high quality and looks really expensive (even the hard materials around the lower perimeter look great). Finishing materials in the Nissan Qashqai are as good as those of the "Korean", and the design is not as strict. The driving position of the Japanese crossover is higher, and it feels even higher due to the low front panel. In KIA, on the contrary, it seems that you are sitting very deep, since the front panel is located high. The landing geometry is well calibrated on both, but for some of us the steering column adjustment for reach was not enough, this applies to both the Japanese and Korean cars. And again, we will scold crossovers for budget solutions - both do not have the right settings. front seat in height. At Nissan, in addition, the backrest tilt has step adjustment, while at the “Korean” it is stepless. But we liked the seats more in Qashqai, although the Sportage has no complaints about the convenience of landing.

The wheelbase of the KIA exceeds the base of the Japanese crossover by 24 mm, and about the same in the Korean car there is more legroom for the rear passengers. However, both of them are spacious - they do not press either in the legs or in the shoulders. But in terms of height, the “Korean” is again in the lead - there is more than five centimeters of space above your head. The sofas are both good in shape: each of the crossovers offers comfortable central armrests with cup holders and ventilation system deflectors between the front seats. But in KIA, the seatbacks can also be adjusted in terms of the angle of inclination, and within a fairly wide range. And also rear passengers Sportage offers a USB connector and a power outlet.

Japanese crossover, equipped with a stepless variator, even in the "environmentally friendly" mode, it rides more dynamically than the "Korean" in the "sporty" mode. And if the "eco" mode is turned off, Qashqai begins to be perceived as very alive. His reactions to "gas" are linear - no hitches are observed. Engine on high revs quiet enough. And the variator works great. With a quiet ride, the tachometer needle “hangs” at optimal speeds, and with vigorous acceleration, the transmission simulates gear shifting and does it very believably.

The brakes of both rivals are set up adequately. There are no problems with deceleration, although the brake pedal of the Korean crossover seemed more informative to someone from the editorial staff.

The same goes for steering wheel settings. The steering wheel at KIA is quite sharp, makes 2.75 turns from lock to lock and has a rich reactive effect. Accuracy, speed of reactions and information content at a height - the feeling when driving a "Korean" is almost light. Against his background, the "Japanese" reacts to control actions a little slower, his wheel makes exactly three revolutions from lock to lock. The reactive action is also quite high, but the feedback is not as good as that of a competitor. However, there are no serious complaints here either, it's just that the Sportage steering wheel is set up a little better.

On the motorway, both cars are stable even at high speeds, but the Nissan feels rutting a little more. Let's put it down to wide 19-inch wheels. The Korean crossover has 17-inch wheels with narrower and higher-profile tires, thanks to which it behaves perfectly in a rut. It would seem that with such wheels KIA should lose to a Japanese rival on a twisty track, but nothing like that. Even in steep turns, he behaves accurately and collectedly, demonstrating almost sporting habits. On the other hand, and Nissan stoically kept in corners. In principle, in terms of handling, our competitors can be put on an equal footing, however, the “Korean” feels more natural due to better steering settings.

I remember that we scolded the previous generation Nissan Qashqai for the “rattling” suspension, which began to work a little better after restyling, but until the end of extraneous sounds never healed. The new generation model suffers from the same drawback, although even less pronounced. Because of this, when driving a car, there is a feeling that not everything is in order in the chassis. Otherwise, when driving on urban asphalt "average scall", the crossover behaves quite collected, although the bumps are harsh.

The Korean car also does not differ in softness of the ride. Its suspension, like that of its rival, regularly transmits all the seams and cracks of the coating to the cabin, but unlike its competitor, it makes it much quieter, which makes the overall feeling of comfort higher. And on a broken primer, the Sportage allows you to move noticeably faster than the Qashqai, because the “Japanese” is significantly inferior to it in terms of energy intensity: the KIA crossover holds up well, while the Nissan model periodically receives hard breakdowns.

Noise isolation is at a fairly high level for both competitors. At the same time, in each of them, tires “solo” at high speed, so everything here depends on the choice of brand and model of tires.

Perhaps, according to the results of the test, we are ready to give a little more points new KIA sportage. Of its shortcomings, we note not particularly successful settings for the engine and gearbox, while in other respects it outperforms the competitor, albeit not by much. Together with the Nissan Qashqai has always been and remains very good car, and the settings of its engine and variator can be taken as a standard in the class.
