What oil to fill in a Nissan engine. Recommended engine oil for Nissan Primera

Many motorists are wondering about choosing the most effective lubricants for Nissan cars. To make a competent choice, it is necessary to study the main characteristics vehicle and conditions of use: type power unit, mileage, climate.

As additional information, you can familiarize yourself with the tolerance indicated for a particular car model. Such information is registered in the service book for operation or they can be found on the global network. The most significant are ACEA and SAE approvals. As for the second, it indicates the viscosity class.

Selection by viscosity grade

Every experienced motorist is familiar with indicators such as 5w30, 10w40 and so on. These numbers indicate the temperature index for the use of motor fluid. The most popular markings in the domestic space are: SAE 0w-20 ° / + 35 ° C.

For countries with a cold climate, oils with SAE 5w30 indicators with temperatures from -30 ° to + 35 ° are most often used. In temperate zones, it is best to fill with SAE 5w fluid at an identical temperature. No less relevant is a lubricant with the characteristics of 5w40.

Do not ignore the ACEA approval. This indicator demonstrates compatibility with internal combustion engines. Cars Nissan Qashqai, Primera, Almera, X-Trail, Tiida, Teana, Postfinder, Murano left-hand drive work great on A3 / B4 grease.

These are standard views from the manufacturer Nissan with the marking 5w40. If it is not possible to use original products, experienced specialists recommend filling in oils from the company:

  • shell;
  • total;
  • Castrol;
  • Ultra;
  • Mobil;

First of all, you should pay attention to the tolerances, the reputation of the company and the final cost. However, if we talk about the price aspect, then for Nissan 5w40 oil you will have to pay around 2000-2300 rubles for a 5 liter canister. It is much cheaper than foreign analogues.

For passenger vehicles with a particulate filter, C4 - ACEA fluid is allowed. In this case, you can use an alternative lubrication option from the company Liqui Moly.

Nissan sports cars require the use of oil with special characteristics. Typically, sports cars use compounds with a high level of viscosity - 10w50, 15w50. Owners of models such as Skyline or 350Z prefer to trust the opinions of service station professionals.

On such models, original products from Mobil, LM, Motul are most often used. Viscosity is selected according to the manufacturer's recommendations and technical parameters engine. Climatic conditions also play important role when choosing effective products.

Oil selection by Nissan models

Oil for Nissan Primera with gasoline engines GA16DS, SR20DI, SR20DE

For all types of power units with the specified parameters, it is recommended to use the following lubricants:

  1. branded lubricants from the vehicle manufacturer;
  2. liquids like SG, SF according to API classification;
  3. viscosity grade is selected according to climatic conditions and engine parameters.

If we are talking about the approximate volume of the product used, then for replacement you will need:

  • SR20DI - 3.2 and 3.4 liters, respectively;
  • GA16DS - 2.8 and 3.2 liters.

The choice according to the viscosity class is made according to the temperature conditions:

  • range from -25°C -10°C - 5w20;
  • from -25°C + 15°C - 5w30;
  • from -20°C + 40°C - 10w30.

It is best to use products with a viscosity grade of 10w30 in areas where temperatures exceed 20°C. For hot climates, oils with a viscosity of 20w50, 20w40 are used.

Qashqai

Regarding the use of lubricants for the motor Nissan Qashqai, then special attention should be paid to the manufacturer's recommendations. Therefore, it is best to pour synthetic-based substances with a viscosity class of 5w40 into the power units of a car.

Since 4.5 liters are placed in the Qashqai 2.0 internal combustion engine system, it is necessary to purchase 5-liter canisters with original oil.

Nissan X-Trail

According to the performance characteristics of gasoline engines QR20DE, QR25DE, original Nissan fluids should be used for them:

  • according to the API system with classes SH, SG, in some cases SJ are used;
  • according to the ACEA 98B1 system;
  • ILSAC type GF1.

For temperatures from -30 ° C, 10w30 lubricants are used. For areas with a hot climate, it is necessary to use products with a viscosity of 20w40.

For a dry engine Nissan X-Trail you will need about 4.5 liters of oil. About 3.5 liters will go with the base fluid.

Nissan Beetle

Power units HR16DE running on gasoline need to be filled with grease with the characteristics and requirements:

  • original products from the manufacturer of the car or a foreign analogue;
  • high quality according to the SL, SM - API system;
  • compliance with ACEA standards;
  • quality standards ILSAC GF4, GF3;
  • viscosity class according to climatic conditions.

For power devices Nissan Juke working on a diesel engine, use a liquid:

  • from a car manufacturer
  • according to the class of the ACEA system - C4;
  • according to the SAE classification, the viscosity of the oil should be 5w30;
  • low-ash mixtures "Low SAPS".

Any replacement of a lubricant product with diesel fuel will not do without 4.4 liters, and taking into account the oil filter 4, 24 liters.

Nissan Teana

According to the performance characteristics of the car, the manufacturer recommends filling branded oil. The manual instructions describe the parameters: viscosity, class, type and features of use.

After a thorough study of the parameters, you can proceed to the selection motor lubricant taking into account:

one). The season when the liquid can be applied. Experts do not recommend pouring individual products for summer or winter. It is better to use off-season oils, since they can be used both in winter and in summer. However, any type of mixture used has its own characteristics, additives and flow rates;

2). The basic basis of the substance taken. It is not recommended to use mineral fluids on units Nissan Teana. Uninterrupted operation is ensured only thanks to synthetic and semi-artificial lubricants;

3). The presence of special markings on the oil canister, demonstrating certain characteristics and properties for a particular type of motor.

Teana L33 2014 release

According to the performance characteristics of the car, experts recommend using QR25DE for units:

  • original mixture from Nissan;
  • API quality standard SM, SN, SL;
  • quality level from ILSAC - GF5, GF4, GF3.

As for the filling volume of the lubricant product on the power devices VQ, QR, it is 4.3 liters, and taking into account the filter 4.6 liters.

Nissan Tiida 2004-2014 release

According to the instructions for Nissan models Tiida with MR18DE, HR16DE engines must use special types of fluid:

  • branded lubricants from Nissan or similar oils from foreign manufacturers;
  • ACEA quality - class A1B1, C2C3;
  • ILSAC standards - lubricant product GF4, GF3;
  • API standards - types SM, SL.

The viscosity level is selected according to climatic conditions.

Nissan Almera

Manufacturers advise using branded Nissan oil with a viscosity level of 5w30 or 5w40. These indicators correspond to synthetic-based products for off-season use. Filling capacity is 4 liters.

You can also use foreign analogues:

  • Total Future 5w30;
  • Mobil 5w40;
  • Petro-Canada 5w30.

Any use of oil for a Nissan car should be considered and verified. You should not purchase lubricants that do not match the parameters of the internal combustion engine system, as this can lead to wear and complete deformation of the motor.

Crossover with angular shapes, spacious interior and an attractive price tag, the Nissan X Trail was introduced to the motoring community in 2001. Initially, the car was designed on the Nissan FF-S platform, with the release of the second generation of the X Trail model, the platform also changed: the manufacturer decided to release a crossover based on the Nissan C, which has proven itself well in the SUV.

Today, the production of the third generation has been launched. The base is a 2.0-liter power unit with a capacity of 147 Horse power. To ensure stable operation of the engine, it is necessary to carry out timely replacement of engine oil. That is why many owners are interested in the question of what kind of oil to pour into the Nissan X Trail engine.

In most cases, the manufacturer in the operating instructions for the car gives several names of the most suitable engine oils for a particular engine. In rare cases, there is a binding to a specific brand, and if this happens, the manufacturer specifies a specially made lubricant for engine modification. Majority nissan cars X-trail are equipped with QR25DE and QR20DE powertrains, mainly for copies manufactured between 2000 and 2007. These two motors are best suited for a special motor oil Nissan, with the following distinctive features:

  • 5-liter container 5W-30 with code KE900-90041;
  • 5 liter container 5W-40 code KE900-90042;
  • 5 liter container 10W-30 code KE900-99942;
  • 5 liter container 5W-40 code KE900-90042.

Depending on the operating conditions, it is necessary to select engine oil with necessary level viscosity. This is a rather important characteristic, on which each manufacturer of power units focuses, and after that secondary parameters are taken into account, in particular, the brand itself. The lubricant, for its intended purpose, must form a high-quality film that can protect the components and assemblies of the motor from excessive frictional loads. This means that in a region where low temperatures predominate, up to -30 degrees Celsius, you need to select a universal lubricant, for example, 5W30.

Sometimes it is impossible to get one or another engine oil for one reason or another. In such cases, you can resort to using an alternative from another manufacturer, but do not neglect the instructions in the documentation regarding suitable viscosity levels. The whole point is that Nissan engines X-Trail inside have certain gaps that are filled with lubricant, thus ensuring the normal operation of the power unit. If you choose too thick or thin engine oil, quite serious damage can occur. For this reason, in no case should you be guided only by your own preferences when choosing products for the engine of your car.

It is worth considering the following nuances at the time of purchasing oil for the Nissan X-Trail:

  • As a rule, tolerances are applied to the liquid canister, which indicate which specific car brands it is permissible to use this lubricant;
  • Do not throw into the background the basis of the liquid: synthetics, semi-synthetics, or mineral water. There is an opinion among Nissan X Trail owners that semi-synthetic or mineral motor oil is best suited for high mileage engines, due to the fact that these types of fluids have the least detergent properties, which is important for power units with a certain amount of soot on internal components;
  • You can use all-weather oil if the manufacturer allows it. It can be used all year round, but you need to take into account the temperature range at which the car will be operated.

As for Nissan X Trail cars, which are equipped with new MR20DD power units, here the manufacturer still insists on using the original Nissan oil with an SAE viscosity of 5W-30. You can switch to original products in case of temperature changes at 10W-30 (-20 and + 40 Celsius), or at 15W-40 if the ambient temperature reaches 40 or more degrees Celsius.

Reviews of car owners

It is also worth saying a few words about diesel modifications. Nissan claims that it is best for owners of such crossover modifications to use original synthetic oil. Such a lubricator provides the highest degree of protection of engine parts and components from rapid wear, and also contributes to an easier start at low temperatures. There are no cardinal differences in the choice of a suitable substance for a diesel engine. In the absence of the recommended oil, using a special diagram, a substance with a viscosity for a certain temperature range is selected. Next, we’ll talk about what kind of oil the drivers themselves fill in the Nissan X Trail engine.

Nissan X-Trail T-31

  1. George, Moscow. Greetings. I have a 2007 Nissan X Trail, second generation T31. The engine is 2.0-liter, 140 horsepower. I am completely satisfied with the car weaknesses she has practically none. Mileage has already exceeded 180 thousand kilometers. I'm uploading now original oil Nissan 5W-30. Before that, I used 0W20 Eneos Sustina, and then they told me that it is best to refuse such a substance during operation at increased loads. Indeed, I noticed that the engine is on high revs began to work quieter, some disappeared extraneous sounds. In general, I can say one thing - the 2.0 Nissan X-Trail engine clearly does not like too viscous oils.
  2. Maxim, Tula. Crossover 2014, 2.0 engine with mechanical box gears. I have always preferred to change the oil myself. Everywhere they write that it is necessary to make a replacement every 10,000 km, I spend a little earlier - after 7,500 km. You can change at least every 1,000 km, but does it make sense? I doubt it, but it's not worth it to delay the replacement. I use exclusively recommended product Nissan 5W-30. Very high quality, but expensive lubricant. In any case, if you want your car's engine to have no problems, follow only the instructions of the engine manufacturer, and nothing else.
  3. Vasily, Sochi. I have a 2013 Nissan X-Trail T-31 car, the car is no longer under warranty. Enjoyed various oils so I have something to say. I also looked for owner reviews, asked friends what oil is best to fill in the X-Trail engine. After years of driving a car, I realized one thing that only a special lubricant from Nissan is best suited. But, he has one very serious flaw - the high cost. I recommend Mobil 5W-30 and Castrol 5W-30 as inexpensive alternative brands. This is a fairly good product, while inexpensive, which is also recommended for use in service centers.

Based on the findings Nissan owners X-Trail T-31, we can conclude that the most suitable oil for the power unit of a car is Nissan 5W-30. Due to the fact that many drivers prefer to change the substance ahead of schedule, it is possible to switch to more affordable and cheaper options - Mobil, Castrol, Shell with an SAE viscosity index of 5W - 30.

Nissan X-Trail T-32

  1. Vyacheslav, Novosibirsk. I want to give one simple advice to the owners of new crossovers: do not rack your brains with the choice of the right oil. If the car is under warranty, go to a service center and let them change it to 5W-30, maybe 5W-40. I have a 2016 X-Trail with a 2.5L QR25DE engine. The instructions for the engine indicate the viscosity of exactly 5W-30, it is best not to deviate from this rule, because as a result, repairs can result in a round penny. It is also desirable to use original Nissan products, when the engine is used and the car is not under warranty, you can find suitable options among Castrol and Shell, and best of all, pay attention to ALF 5W-30.
  2. Sergey, Minsk. I now have a brand new 2018 Nissan X-Trail T-32, so far I don’t know any problems with oil. But I can say from the experience of owning Nissan Qashqai, you need to fill in products from Nissan. As at TO 1, he poured the American Mobil 1 spill, the oil quickly darkened, the engine began to work unstably, and even had to be added. In general, after that I switched only to the original, yes, it’s expensive, but what should I do? Nissan engines are finicky, you need to monitor the quality of the fuel as well, otherwise problems in the future cannot be avoided.
  3. Valery, Riga. I bought a Nissan X-Trail two years ago with a 2.5-liter QR25DE engine paired with a manual. The manual says that you need to use SAE 5W30, 5W40, which, in my opinion, is too thick for this engine. I heard the same version from experienced auto mechanics, who said that with such a substance, after 100 thousand kilometers, the occurrence of rings occurs, and the “zhor” of oil also begins. Perhaps these are guesses, somehow I cannot refute or approve such an opinion. So far, I haven't reached that milestone. All this time I used German products Liqui Moly Synthoil High Tech 5W-30. I change after 7-8 thousand kilometers. So far, the flight is normal.

Owners of cars with new engines prefer to use products from Nissan, or high-quality analogues, for example, German-made Liqui Moly engine oil with a viscosity of 5W-30.

Today, the lubricants market offers vehicle owners a wide selection of oils for the engine, transmission, etc. Different brands endow their products with a certain set of qualities. The cost can also vary significantly.

One of the high-end products is nissan oil. This Japanese brand has developed many varieties of lubricants that are designed for different brands of cars. What this oil is, what features it is characterized by, will be discussed further.

Manufacturer

The Japanese company Nippon Oil Corporation is known worldwide as one of the the best manufacturers original lubricants. All products meet high international requirements. Also, the presented products received the approval of the state standard of the Russian Federation. Oils are produced for our country taking into account the peculiarities of the climate.

In great demand in the domestic market are Nissan oils for automatic transmissions, old and new motors. The world has long become familiar with the practice of cooperation between leading lubricant manufacturers and engineering corporations. They exchange their developments, which allows them to produce products of the highest quality.

Nissan lubricants were no exception. This brand is one of the activities of the machine-building company of the same name. Nissan car owners can choose the most suitable oil that will protect vehicle systems from adverse effects.

Product Features

Choosing nissan oil for variator or motor, it is necessary to consider a number of features of such products. Oils are produced on the basis of high quality components. Their viscosity is well balanced. All-weather oils can be used in both extreme heat and cold. It is important to correctly select the type of viscosity corresponding to the climatic zone.

Oils are based on additives. They are designed to neutralize the products of chemical reactions that occur in mechanisms with high heat. As a result, corrosion and deposits do not appear on the parts of the piston category, the crank mechanism.

The composition is determined by a low sulfate ash content. This improves the environmental performance of the lubricant. When using the presented products, the transmission, engine and other systems and mechanisms will be reliably protected from wear.

Engine oils

When choosing lubricants, it is necessary to strictly follow the recommendations of the motor manufacturer. In this case, its configuration and mileage must be taken into account. As a rule, owners of even the oldest car models do not pour hydrocracked mineral oil into the system. Nissan Almera (1995), Micra (1992), Primera (1996) and other fairly old models tolerate semi-synthetic oils well.

The cost of semi-synthetics will be relatively lower than that of synthetics. So, the original Nissan oil of this category can be purchased at a price of 350 rubles per liter. It contains both high quality synthetic components and minerals. It will be necessary to change the presented agent in used engines more often.

For cars with a new type of engine, the company has developed a line of synthetic products. This product is the most technologically advanced. She is able to provide normal work motor even under loaded conditions. The price of synthetics is from 500 rubles / l.

Gear oils

When deciding to change the oil in the transmission, you must also carefully consider the choice of oil type. First of all, it should be noted that there are products for mechanical and automatic transmissions. In the first case, you can buy oil at a price of 350 rubles per liter. For automatic boxes gears on sale are products whose cost is from 450 rubles per liter. One of the most popular types of compositions for automatic transmissions is oil. Nissan CVT.

Also, when choosing a lubricant for a gearbox, it is necessary to consider the conditions under which the mechanism operates. For light and medium loads, compositions made according to the GL-4 standard should be preferred. If the operation of the car is associated with significant overloads, it is necessary to purchase the GL-5 tool.

In the first type of oils, a smaller amount of detergent additives is provided. Such funds are cheaper. The GL-5 standard assumes the use of a greater amount of anti-seize, detergent and other additives in the product line. This allows you to protect the moving parts of the mechanism from wear.

Viscosity class

Nissan engine oil or transmission is manufactured by a Japanese brand using new technologies. Thanks to a special approach to the creation of the base oil base, a balanced set of additives, the presented products can be used in the system throughout the year.

All-season oils have a high ability to adapt to environmental conditions. Due to good fluidity, the oil does not freeze in the system in cold weather. In the summer, with increasing overloads, the oil becomes more liquid. However, special technologies do not allow it to completely drain into the crankcase. A thin but strong film forms on the surface of the mechanisms. It protects surfaces from mechanical damage.

For the southern regions of our country, it is recommended to purchase engine oil with a viscosity grade according to SAE 10w40. For drivers who often operate a car in the middle climatic zone, compositions with a viscosity class are suitable. For a northern climate, 0w20 standard oil is more suitable.

Action of additives

Contains in its composition a certain set of additives. This allows you to apply the presented product in different conditions. In the manufacture of motor gear oils The Japanese brand uses only high-quality modern components. The amount of sulfur, phosphorus and other unfavorable components of the additive package in the composition is reduced to a minimum.

One of the main purposes of additives is to create a thin but very strong film on parts and mechanisms. It should not collapse under the influence of temperature and pressure. These requirements are fully met by the presented products.

Additives also counteract the appearance of corrosion, the destruction of the oil base. They have a cleansing effect. Pollution, carbon deposits are collected by oil from the mechanisms. During the entire life of the lubricant, these particles are reliably retained by the lubricant, preventing them from settling on the surfaces of the system again.

Benefits of oils

Since Nissan oil is an original product of the engineering concern, all parameters of the formulations are thoroughly tested directly at the factory. In doing so, apply real engines"Nissan". This allows the company to offer the buyer not just high-quality oil, but a composition that will be better suited to the features of the engine than others.

The process of creating new formulas is ongoing. The company applies new scientific developments in the creation of its lubricant products. These are high-tech, pure, long-lasting oils. They are able to reliably protect mechanisms from premature wear and destruction.

When using the optimally suitable composition, the engine is kept clean, not subject to adverse environmental influences. It will need to be repaired very soon. The system will operate stably, at full capacity. In this case, the toxicity of the exhaust will be much less.

How to distinguish a fake

Oil change in Nissan must be done in a timely manner. The manufacturer has established recommendations regarding the frequency of this process. In some cases, drivers may encounter a situation where the original oil is not of high quality. If the operation of the motor has become noisy, its power drops, which means that a fake was purchased.

Everyone can distinguish low-quality products. It is important to know what nuances you need to pay attention to. The cork with which the canister is closed must be pressed inward. The corporate hologram of the company must be printed in the form of a 3D image. Also at the bottom there should be a badge with the batch number, code. Also, a "cobweb" should be applied to the bottom of the canister. In this case, the contents of the canister should have a dark color. Fake will be lighter. If such a composition is frozen, it will acquire a white-blue tint.

Often, motorists ignore the information set out in the manual for the car, violate the terms for changing the lubricant, fill in the car oil that is not suitable for the type, class or season. Why it is important to use the recommended engine oil for Nissan Qashqai, we will explain in this article.

When choosing engine oil for Nissan Qashqai, it is worth considering the recommendations of the car manufacturer. The necessary information regarding the type, class, viscosity of the motor oil, as well as the timing of its replacement are set out in the vehicle operating instructions. Particular attention should be paid to the viscosity characteristics of lubricant mixtures. Liquids designed for the winter should not be used at very high temperatures ah overboard car. Lubricant designed for the summer does not withstand too low temperatures and begins to crystallize. All-weather oils are some kind of alternative between the previous two types of lubricants, but when buying all-weather oils, you should pay attention to the temperature at which the liquid can be used. For example, semi-synthetic motor oils operate in a smaller temperature range than synthetic ones. Mineral liquids are recommended to be poured into engines with high mileage.

The recommended engine oil for Nissan Qashqai meets the specifications and design features engine of the specified car model. By assumption, the buyer can understand that motor fluid suitable for a specific brand of car, ensures normal operation and protection of the motor. If the engine fluid was tested, for example, on Nissan Qashqai and met the requirements of the manufacturer of the car, then the corresponding tolerances will be present on the oil canister.

The selection of motor oils for gasoline engines is carried out taking into account the temperature outside the car, desired liquid can be selected using schemes 1; 2 set out in the manual for the car. For most diesel units more stringent requirements are imposed, it is allowed to pour a lubricant having a viscosity specified by the machine manufacturer.

What viscosity of oil to fill in for the winter, and what for the summer? What is the difference between minerals and synthetic oils? Can there be problems when switching from "mineral water" to "synthetics"? What needs to be done to switch from "mineral water" to "synthetics"?

You will find answers to these questions in this article.

What viscosity of oil to fill in for the winter, and what for the summer?

Everyone knows that the viscosity of the oil is encrypted in the inscription like "SAE 10W-40". What this means, we will tell you in more detail.

What is "SAE"? The SAE specification (SAE - Society of Automotive Engineers) is an international standard that regulates the viscosity of oils. For example, consider the designation SAE 10W-40. "10W" gives us information about the winter use of this oil (W - WINTER - winter). In other words, from right choice this parameter depends on how easy, and most importantly, without negative consequences, you can start the engine in the cold. Viscosity class "40" in our example is the so-called "summer" class and indicates how much the oil is able to maintain performance in high-temperature areas of the engine. The presence of only one of the considered parameters in the designation of the SAE viscosity class indicates that this is a seasonal oil (SAE 10W - winter seasonal oil, SAE 40 - summer seasonal oil). The presence in the designation of two classes at once (as in our example - SAE 10W-40) indicates the all-season nature of this oil.

How to choose an SAE viscosity grade? When choosing the so-called "winter" viscosity grade, you must be guided by the average winter temperatures in the region where your car is operated. You can use the following table for this:

-30 0 C and below 0W
from -20 to -25 0 C 5W

Following these recommendations, you and your car will be insured against starting problems in winter and from negative consequences for the engine (such as increased wear and "jamming" during and immediately after starting, when the engine is running in oil "starvation" mode), which usually occur when oils of an inappropriate viscosity grade are used. It must be remembered that each time the engine is started (not necessarily at severe frost, and even at positive temperatures) it takes some time for the oil pump to pump oil through the lubrication system and it goes to all rubbing parts. At this time, the engine will just work in the so-called oil "starvation" mode, which we have already mentioned above. It is clear that this dramatically increases friction and wear.

Thus, the more the oil is able to maintain fluidity at low temperatures, the faster it will be pumped through the lubrication system and provide engine protection. The best in this regard are engine oils of the "0W" class. As for the choice of the so-called "summer" class, it should be noted that most car manufacturers recommend the use of oils of class "40" according to SAE. This is due to the high thermal stress modern engines internal combustion and the presence of high temperatures, specific pressures and shear rates in various areas of the engine (piston rings, camshaft, bearings crankshaft etc.). Under these harsh conditions, the oil must maintain a viscosity sufficient to form an oil film and cool the friction pairs. This task becomes especially relevant to prevent increased wear, scuffing and "jamming" in the heat in case of engine overheating due to possible faults in the cooling system.

What is the difference between mineral and synthetic oils?

The difference lies mainly in the molecular structure of the base (base) of the oil. During the production of synthetic oils, molecules are "built" (synthesized) with specified, optimal performance properties. Synthetic oils, unlike mineral oils, have maximum chemical and thermal stability. Chemical stability means that during the operation of synthetic oils in the engine, they do not undergo any chemical transformations (oxidation, paraffinization, etc.) that worsen it performance characteristics. Thermal stability means maintaining the optimum viscosity of the oil over a wide temperature range, which means easy and safe engine starting in cold weather and at the same time maximum engine protection in its highest temperature zones when operating at high speeds and loads. Due to the peculiarities of their molecular structure, synthetic oils have a higher (compared to mineral) fluidity and penetrating power.

Can there be problems when switching from "mineral water" to "synthetics"?

Problems associated with the transition to "synthetics" usually arise in cases where low-quality oils have previously been used, recommended drain intervals have been violated, or foreign substances have entered the oil, such as, for example, coolant, special oil additives, etc. . In this case, significant deposits may appear in the engine. Usually at the same time there is a partial or complete loss of elasticity (up to cracking) of the sealing elements (oil seals, valve stem seals, etc.). Unlike mineral oils, which "wash" deposits in the engine gradually, layer by layer, synthetic oils (due to their inherent high fluidity and penetrating power) cause deposits to peel off the internal surfaces of the engine, which can lead to clogging of the oil receiver screen, oil channels, operation in oil starvation mode and, as a result, engine failure. Similarly, in the area of stuffing box seals (including from microcracks, if any), all deposits will be removed and, in case of loss of elasticity of the stuffing boxes, synthetic oil, having previously cleared its “road”, will flow out of the engine. Thus, the use of synthetic oils is not recommended in the following cases:

If there are significant deposits on the internal surfaces of the engine, if the sealing elements (oil seals, valve stem seals etc.) have lost their elasticity and (or) have microcracks (it is necessary to replace the seals) - leakage is possible;
- during the break-in period for engines requiring break-in, i.e. "useful wear", in order to run in friction pairs. The same applies to engines after overhaul. In these cases, running-in must be carried out on a quality mineral oil, after which you can switch to "synthetics";
- in rotary piston engines.

In all other cases, the use of synthetic oils will not only in no way damage even an “old” and worn engine, but, on the contrary, guarantee its protection and ensure the maximum possible service life. What needs to be done to switch from "mineral water" to "synthetics"?

1. First evaluate the condition of the engine, i.e. check for deposits and defective gland seals. If the engine already has oil leaks, then the transition to "synthetics" is impossible until the causes that cause them are eliminated.

2. If there are significant deposits in the engine - "flush" oil system engine.

3. If there is reason to believe that the stuffing box seals have lost their elasticity (which, for example, is indicated by traces of smudges at the landing sites), then it is better to postpone the transition to "synthetics" until the engine is repaired and the seals are replaced. If there are no traces of leaks, then for reliability, we can recommend that you first switch to using semi-synthetic oil and drive it full interval before replacement. If after this no smudges appear at the sealing points, then you can switch to the use of synthetic products.
