The car is equipped with three transmissions: automatic Durashift, manual transmission Durashift EST and 5-speed manual transmission Durashift, also installed on the Ford Fusion. Specifications are at a high level, and this is largely the merit of the latest generation Durashift 4-speed automatic transmission. It is characterized by soft gear shifting and thus provides the most comfortable ride. It works in conjunction with a 100-horsepower 1.6-liter engine and guarantees an instant response to increased fuel supply. With this engine, the car accelerates to 100 km / h in 11.7 seconds, and its maximum speed is 179 km / h.

Transmission

Automatic transmission includes different modes of operation depending on road conditions:

The first mode is kick-down. In it, the transmission delays the upshift or downshifts if hard acceleration is needed (when the gas pedal is pressed to the floor). If the pedal returns to the standard position, the gearbox switches to normal operation. Kick-down is designed for maximum acceleration without changing the transmission mode.

Mountain Riding Mode: The system automatically detects the climb angle, choosing the most suitable gear and the optimal shifting time. This makes it possible to maintain a fixed speed without constantly changing gears in search of the most suitable for a quiet ascent or descent. In this mode, there are two driving algorithms, depending on the steepness of the slope.

Downhill mode: the system analyzes the throttle position with rpm power unit and vehicle speed. If the brakes are applied, the automatic transmission shifts to a lower gear, thereby creating additional braking force due to engine braking. This mode gives the Ford Fusion the ability to precisely control hill descents or trailer towing in mountainous terrain. The technical characteristics of the car allow not only to confidently overcome impassability or maneuver in the city, but also to drive in hot and cold conditions without undesirable consequences. That's what the next mode is for.

Operation in cold and hot conditions. In cold weather, the transmission will not allow shifting to fourth gear until the transmission oil reaches the required temperature. This reduces the wear of the gearbox components during cold starts, thereby extending its life.

overdrive mode. The power button is located at the bottom of the automatic transmission gear selector in the car. This mode allows you to block the shift to fourth gear, making the ride more dynamic. It can also lock out 1st or 2nd gear for safer driving on slopes or snowy surfaces.

The transmission is controlled by a separate computer. Powertrain settings are constantly changing to match road conditions and driving style.

The Durashift EST robotic transmission is installed on the Ford Fusion 1.4. The technical characteristics of the engine allow you to drive confidently in dense city traffic, and the transmission is ideal for this purpose. According to experts, it is in many ways better than traditional manual transmission: in urban conditions, especially in traffic jams, it is much more convenient without a clutch, it is also impossible to mix up the gear and you cannot stall. In addition, it provides dynamic handling and significantly reduces fuel consumption.

Trunk

The car has a comfortable and spacious luggage compartment for 337 liters, which can be opened using a button in the cabin or a regular key. The downside is that it does not have special mounts for different kind cargo.

Complete set

On the Russian market the car is delivered in trim levels Trend and Elegance. The first includes airbags for the front row and side, ABS system, power steering, central locking, leather steering wheel, heated front seats, power front windows, adjustable steering column and other useful options.

A more expensive package is complemented by a chrome-plated radiator grille, chrome-plated rear-view mirrors with electric drive and heating, fog lights, leather-trimmed gearshift lever.

2004 update

In 2004, the manufacturer introduced the 16-valve 90-horsepower Ford Fusion 1.6, the technical characteristics of which are fully consistent with the purpose of the car. This motor was the latest joint development of Ford and Peugeot Citroen. The design of the engine is aluminum, which made it possible to minimize its weight. The diesel is equipped with a third-generation common rail system and fully complies with Euro IV standards - CO2 emissions are 119 g / km. Fuel consumption in the combined driving cycle is 4.5 l/100 km. The car is available in three- and five-door versions.

2005 update

In 2005, under the name Fusion, the manufacturer released a mid-size sedan, which had previously changed two names: Futura and Four Hundred, since it was difficult to choose a unique name that was previously unregistered on automotive market. The model received a discreet but versatile appearance: it will look harmonious both in Europe and in America.

Suspension Ford Fusion 2007

The technical characteristics of the car require appropriate handling and high-quality work of the suspension as a whole. Compared to the Fiesta model, the car received a stiffer suspension. Even small bumps are felt on the road, but rolls in sharp turns reduced to the maximum. Despite the higher ground clearance and higher center of gravity, the Fusion has many of the same habits as its predecessor.

Engines

The car is equipped with two petrol units 2.3 and 3.0 l Duratec series with 160 and 210 hp respectively. The first is aggregated with a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission, and a more powerful one works in conjunction with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Both motors have an aluminum body and four valves. The car comes with front wheel drive only.

One of the priority areas is the safety of the driver and passengers, which was reflected in the development of all models of the company, including the Ford Fusion 2009. The technical characteristics remained at the same level, and the safety of each passenger is ensured by a personal protection system, including a double airbag and a belt with preloader.
