I don’t know what prompted me to write another review, perhaps a desire to prove that the Fabia is quite a solid, small car, or maybe just reading one of the reviews about one of the most common cars with a 1.6 liter internal combustion engine. In any case, I guess I'll start.

In this review, I will not be verbose because, in general, there is nothing to talk about, and what is the point of rewriting the previous review. The thing is that since the writing of the previous review, nothing that would have drawn attention to itself has happened.

So, I'll start, a pleasant event happened in our life - we bought a car! Why are we, well, because the car is for the wife, but it’s nice for both of us, the wife because she now has her own car, and I because now I don’t need to blow up over trifles and go somewhere, now I can avoid this) )).

Probably, according to the established tradition, I will start with the pangs of choice, or why the Skoda Fabia is still the same. Do not think that I was the initiator of buying a second car only from the VAG family, I did not consider this concern at all, Renault Sandero Stepway was offered from my side, it seemed to me that the second car should be a car that is at least a little higher in terms of ground clearance than our current octave. In the summer we go into the forest and the clearance plays a role, and the steppe has it decently more than many cars, in addition to everything, it also has a decorative body kit, which, it seems to me, gives the car a good appearance. Another of the important factors in favor of Renault was its all-consuming suspension, in the bowels of which the realities of our roads and directions were dissolved, I myself rode a sandero several times as a passenger and I really liked how it rides along the comb and small bumps. Perhaps, of the minuses, only the high consumption of gasoline can be noted, but they say that it pulls on the bottoms.

Hello! A year has passed since the purchase of the Fabia and it seemed to me that it would not be out of place to drop a few lines about this.

I’ll start with the body, even when driving from the car dealership to the house, I noticed that all the dirt brushed off by the brushes from the windshield flows to the side just at eye level, thereby interfering with a full view, I immediately decided that I would buy windshields. In winter, there were no problems with the view and there was nothing to complain about, with the advent of summer, I bought and pasted those same wind deflectors, there is undoubtedly a benefit, but only from the fact that in the rain you can open the window a little and water will not get inside the cabin, on the highway, all the dirt still falls on the side glass, but now just above eye level. Based on this, I can safely say that the engineer who was involved in the design is, to put it mildly, a mediocre person, the same golf + windshield is, as it were, recessed into the racks and the dirt, in theory, should rise along the edge of the windshield to the roof, and then let it flow anywhere, the main glass the side is clean, I saw something like this on some Merc models, I don’t have this on the Octavia, but I don’t have any complaints either. In general, there is a minus on the body of the Fabia.

The range of modifications of the heroes of our material is slightly different: in addition to the most massive 5-door hatchbacks available in the arsenal of both cars, Fiesta also has 3-door versions of them, and Fabia has a 5-door roomy station wagon. Both models also have commercial hatches with blank rear side windows. Today we will find out the consumer qualities of the most popular modifications of this model.

Comparing the market value of used copies of the same production years, we found out that Fiesta is on average $1-2 thousand more expensive than its competitor. Thus, Fabia immediately earns points for a more affordable price.

Winning combos

As they say, there are no comrades for the taste and color, but still, objectively speaking, reputable auto experts and many ordinary motorists note that ford model more expressive design. Against its background, Skoda looks too correct and boring, and in this discipline loses to its rival.

The interiors of these cars are also decorated to match the appearance (see photo). At the request of the client, Ford may have a different color scheme, and not only plating, but also plastic trim. Such combinations look much more original than similar options for Skoda. Therefore, the design of the Fiesta confidently earns victory points for itself.

The original interior design of the Fiesta is still perceived as modern today. The plastic of the finish is soft and high-quality, the finish is wear-resistant. Forward visibility is good. At the request of the customer, the interior can have a different color scheme. Noise isolation is not important.

The central floor tunnel in the Fiesta is small and the average passenger is more comfortable to sit on the "gallery" than the competitor's (the Fabia has a much more massive tunnel).

The quality of plastic is higher for the "German" - it is better (softer) than that of a competitor. At the same time, the sound insulation is better for the "Czech". Fabia has more comments on the reliability of interior equipment, while Fiesta, as a rule, can only cause problems with a head unit (see "Results").

Compared to its competitor, the Fabia's interior is stricter and less interesting. More rigid and plastic finishes. Although, in general, everything is done with high quality and there are no complaints about ergonomics, visibility and wear resistance of the finish. The only remark refers to the stove motor.

The Fabia offers more legroom for rear passengers than the competition, but it's less spacious in terms of width.

Skoda provides passengers in the back row with more legroom, but in terms of width, it is a bit narrower than a competitor, and a person sitting in the middle will be more comfortable in a Ford. However, it is important to note that, like other classmates, it is most comfortable to ride together in the back seat of these B-class models.

The luggage compartment of the Fabia is more spacious than that of the Fiesta: in the “stowed” state by 20 liters (315 liters versus 295 liters), and with the rear seats folded down, the advantage is much more significant - by as much as 200 liters (1180 liters versus 980 liters)! At the same time, their carrying capacity is almost the same.

Less engines, more problems

In the arsenal of both models there are petrol and diesel engines, although the most widespread in Ukraine are their modifications that run on gasoline. Most often, under the hood of the "German" you can find engines with a volume of 1.0 liters, 1.25 liters, and "Czech" - 1.2 and 1.4 liters. Please note that many Ford “engines” are distinguished by a higher liter capacity than that of a competitor, which is why we advise fans of active driving to take a closer look at this particular model. For example, a Fiesta with a 1.25 (82 hp) l unit and “mechanics” can accelerate to the first “hundred” in 13.3 s, while a competitor with similar units (70 hp) takes 14 .9 s. Although in fairness, we note that there are also less powerful versions of the “German” 1.25 l (60 hp) on the market, the dynamics of which are weaker - 16.9 s.

Fiesta gives buyers a lot of choice - its range of powertrains is much more extensive than that of Fabia.

As the operating experience showed, the least typical problems were identified in power units Fiesta. The fact is that many of its motors were borrowed from its predecessor and they successfully eliminated all weak spots. The least reliable were 1.0-liter Ford petrols of the new generation, and 1.6-liter diesel engines. But Skoda engines during operation can cause more trouble (see "Results").

The Fiesta also has a wider choice of transmissions: in addition to the traditional “mechanics” and “automatic” available as a competitor, Ford still there is a robotic Powershift manual gearbox with two clutches. At the same time, both Fabia gearboxes turned out to be the most problem-free in practice. The "German" has proved to be the most reliable automatic transmission, but in the rest of the units a number of characteristic sores have been identified.

The design is similar, but the reliability is not

Serviceable chassis of both models have similar characteristics - they are moderately rigid and allow you to drive quite actively. Contributes to this and quite informative steering. Structurally, the suspensions are also similar: independent McPherson in front, and a semi-independent beam in the back.

On our roads, the Fiesta front end proved to be more durable. Most often (after 60–80 thousand km), only the stabilizer struts will have to be changed. At the same time, its bushings, silent blocks of levers and ball bearings of the front suspension are able to withstand a run of 150–200 thousand km.

Fiesta has the right to be proud of the highest safety - it has the maximum 5 stars on the results EuroNCAP crash tests, while Fabia has only 4.

But the "front" Fabia is less. The weak point is the support bearings of the front struts (they can creak already at runs of 30 thousand km). The rear silent blocks of levers also do not last very long - about 80 thousand km. And with their replacement, difficulties often arise: the clip of the rear silent blocks is fastened with metal bolts to the aluminum subframe and over time the bolts boil strongly, and when unscrewed, they break easily. In steel, the suspension is durable. So, the stabilizer bushings hold about 60 thousand km, and the struts - up to 100 thousand km. Ball bearings and front silent blocks of the front levers - 150-200 thousand km.

At the same time, the rear semi-independent suspensions have a similar resource - the silent blocks of the beams run about 200 thousand km.

The steering of both models is equipped with an electric power steering. The weak point of this node in Fabia is the load sensor in the system, while in Fiesta until 2012 it is the spline connection of the steering shaft. Ford's steering consumables are more durable - they last up to 200 thousand km, and for Skoda - 100-150 thousand km.

Corrosion resistance and the condition of Fabia attachments do not cause any remarks. In principle, the same can be said about its competitor.

The brake system of the heroes of the material is endowed with a similar feature - over time, the rear drums of the most common versions need preventive cleaning, and the signal for this will be a creak when braking.

Oil leak from under the side cover of the timing chain (1.2 and 1.6 l). The 1.4 liter unit does not tolerate overheating under the sun.

Unlike the Fiesta, represented by hatchbacks, the Fabia has a wider range of modifications - there are 5-door hatchbacks, a sedan and a station wagon. Today we will compare the consumer qualities of the most classic representatives of the B-class - hatchbacks.

Third wheel?

Both models have no problems with corrosion resistance. Their passive safety is also not bad - both have 4 stars out of the maximum 5 according to the results of EuroNCAP crash tests.

Due to its compact size, four people will most conveniently fit inside - it will be a little crowded for three people in the galleries of these cars. At the same time, the average passenger will like it more in the Fiesta - in the Fabia, the massive central body tunnel will interfere with his legs.

In turn, Skoda is ahead of its competitor in terms of the quality of finishing materials, the level of sound insulation and ergonomics (see photo). Both cars have complaints about visibility, but Ford has fewer of them.

Avoid diesel!

Motorists advise to avoid diesel engines, especially Fiesta - they are short-lived, after 100 thousand km they show wear of the cylinder-piston group, and fuel injectors do not withstand the quality of our diesel fuel.

Fabia diesels are less of a problem, but can also be annoying. So, due to the use of low-quality diesel fuel, after 100 thousand km, carbon deposits form on the valves, which ultimately leads to their burnout. If the owner abuses economical driving, the mechanism for changing the “geometry” of the turbine becomes unusable over time (the blades coke and stop moving). To avoid the above troubles, mechanics are advised to periodically drive diesels actively.

In general, gasoline Ford engines serve without problems, and some weaknesses have been identified in similar Skoda power units. The least reliable of those in the Fabia is the 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine (see "Results"). Active drivers will be attracted by the "charged" versions of the Fiesta ST, equipped with a powerful 150-horsepower 2.0-liter engine that accelerates the small hatchback to the first "hundred" in 8.4 s. Moreover, such versions in Ukraine are not uncommon, which cannot be said about the “hot” versions of the Fabia RS with a 131-horsepower 1.9-liter turbodiesel, they are classified as exotic in our country. In addition, they are less dynamic - 9.4 s to 100 km / h.

“I appreciate the Skoda Fabia for its high practicality and good reliability. The main remark is that it is more expensive than many competitors.

Problem "robot"

Both types of Skoda gearboxes have proven to be reliable, but Ford units can cause trouble. So, the Durashift robotic gearbox may fail due to problems with the wiring - the connection between the control module and the actuator is lost. The latter also occasionally wedges. When driving for a long time in traffic jams, the clutch overheats, after which the car may not drive. "Diseases" are also noted in the "mechanics" of Fiesta (see "Results").

Her weaknesses

On our roads, the Fabia suspension turned out to be less durable. So, after a run of 30 thousand km, the bearings of the support pads of the front struts may begin to creak, the “gum” of the stabilizer becomes unusable by 50 thousand km, and the rear silent blocks of the front levers - by 80 thousand km. At the same time, ball bearings and front silent blocks can last up to 150 thousand km. The “consumables” of the Fiesta front suspension, on average, serve the same amount (about 150 thousand km). Only wheel bearings run less - about 100 thousand km.

The "elastic bands" of the rear beams of both cars have a very large resource - they are considered "eternal".

Steering Ford control equipped with a conventional hydraulic booster, while Skoda has a more modern electric hydraulic booster with a degree of amplification that varies depending on the speed. Minor remarks to this node are available for both cars.

Ford Fiesta

In terms of plastic quality, the Fiesta is inferior to its competitor - it is hard to the touch, fortunately not creaky. The A-pillars are wide and somewhat limit the side view, they creak in the back latches rear seats and doors with seals. There are claims to ergonomics and sound insulation.

Body and interior

More affordable than the competitor's market value. Wide A-pillars somewhat limit side visibility. Creaking doors and rear seat backs. Poor soundproofing. Ergonomic remarks on pre-styling versions (there are no handles on the ceiling, there is no platform for resting the left foot, the fuel level and coolant temperature gauges are not ergonomic).

Reliable gasoline engines. Short-lived turbodiesels - after 100 thousand km, wear of the cylinder-piston group was noted. fuel injectors do not withstand the quality of our diesel fuel. Broken fastening of the left engine mount, leakage of the factory pump (2.0 ST).

Unreliable robotic box gears (it may fail due to problems with the wiring, the actuators are wedged, the clutch overheats during long driving in traffic jams). Leakage of axle shaft seals and gearshift wings, after 60-80 thousand km, the outboard bearing of the right axle shaft may fail, fuzzy reverse gear engagement (MCP).

Suspension

Good ones driving performance. A fairly high resource of "consumables" - pendants.

Steering, brakes

Trouble-free brakes. The power steering pump may leak (caused by a factory defect in this unit).

Like

Fiesta - very undemanding and reliable car. For 7 years of operation, only consumables have changed. The chassis is well adapted to our roads, and so far all the details are in good condition. I have the most complete equipment and even have climate control and heating windshield. The plastic finish is quite hard, but not squeaky. good and paintwork- it perfectly protects metal from rust and is not afraid of portal sinks.

I do not like

The disadvantage of the Fiesta is its low ground clearance, at first I constantly clung to the front mudguards, and later removed them altogether. The car is uncomfortable self service- it is necessary to use special keys, and in order to get, for example, to the salon or air filter, along the way, you need to disassemble a lot of things. The design of the gas tank hatch is also inconvenient - it is unlocked with the ignition key.

My rating is 5.0

Summary "AC"
The main advantages of the Fiesta are a more affordable cost, a more comfortable landing for an average passenger in a gallery, trouble-free gasoline engines, a longer resource for many “consumables” of the front suspension, and less demanding brakes in operation. The Fiesta is also more interesting for active driving enthusiasts - you can find “charged” versions of the ST on the market without problems.

Skoda Fabia

Fabia plastic trim is softer and more pleasant to the touch. Ergonomics is not satisfactory, but there are complaints about visibility - during lateral maneuvers, visibility is “eaten up” by massive front and rear racks, as well as the right exterior mirror, which is smaller than the left one.

“It’s less comfortable to sit three in the Fabia - the high and wide central tunnel of the body interferes with the legs of the average passenger.”

Body and interior

The quality of the plastic is higher than that of the competitor. Ergonomics are better. The maximum trunk volume is larger, and the load capacity is higher. The market value is higher than the Fiesta. During lateral maneuvers, visibility is limited by massive front and rear pillars, as well as a small right outside mirror. Possible failure of the door switches.

power unit

1.2 liter engines have proven themselves to be the most unreliable (they noted catalyst clogging or destruction of its ceramic element, piston ring occurrence, which leads to loss of compression and increased oil consumption). Possible failure of the ignition coils and throttle control unit (1.4 l 16V), block head gasket (1.4 l 8V). A turbodiesel with high mileage may have problems with the cylinder head and the mechanism for changing the "geometry" of the turbine.

Trouble-free gearboxes.

Suspension

Good stability. A small resource of stabilizer bushings, rear silent blocks of front levers compared to a competitor.

Steering, brakes

A more modern power steering design. Good handling. Failure of the factory pressure valve in the steering rack. The rear drum mechanisms, on average, every 60 thousand km require preventive cleaning (this is indicated by a creak during braking).

Like

Fabia likes its fuel efficiency - on the highway, the consumption per "hundred" is 6.5-6.7 liters, and in the city - 7.8 liters. At the same time, the dynamics are quite acceptable. I also like the practicality of the car - a lot of things fit in the trunk. The chassis is well suited for our roads - it is soft and energy-intensive. The quality of the plastic in the cabin is good - nothing creaks. Quite decent and corrosion resistance of the body - for 12 years of operation there is no particular rust.

I do not like

What I don't like about the Fabia is that parts are not very cheap for an economy class car. There are also complaints about the optics - my opinion is that it does not illuminate the road well. Visibility through the rear-view mirrors is also unimportant. During the operation, I replaced the fuel pump, I had to change the clutch twice, and in the suspension - the “gum” of the stabilizer, ball bearings and silent blocks of levers. Selling because I need a bigger car.

My rating is 4.0

The Fabia turned out to be the best - it is more practical than its competitor, its trunk is more spacious, and its carrying capacity is higher, better quality interior decoration and ergonomics of the cabin. In general, good and reliable. In addition, Fabia provides customers with greater freedom in choosing modifications. It is for these qualities that many domestic motorists appreciate and choose it.
