Service Lada X-RAY. Self-replacement of spark plugs for Lada Vesta Replacing spark plugs with Lada X Ray

The manufacturer prescribes the replacement of spark plugs after a run of 60,000 km.

As a rule, during normal operation, candles withstand this interval.

If the engine does not start well or after starting it works with jerks, the spark plugs may also be the cause.

For all engines car Lada Xray cylinders fire in the order 1-3-4-2.

The task of the spark plugs is to ignite the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. This results in temperatures up to 2500˚ and pressures up to 60 bar.

In order for the spark to jump between the electrodes, the connecting bolt of the candle is surrounded by ceramic insulation.

In addition, the middle electrode and the connecting bolt of the spark plug are inserted into an electrically conductive glass mass, which provides a rigid fastening of these parts and tightness with respect to the combustion chamber.

When the required voltage is reached, an electric current jumps between the electrodes of the candle in the form of a spark from the middle electrode to the side one. This ignites the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber.

In order for the spark plug to work properly, after starting the engine, it must reach its self-cleaning temperature of approximately 400˚.

If this temperature is not reached, the remains of the combustion products will settle on the thermal cone of the insulator.

At full load, the temperature should not exceed 800 degrees.

The glow rating of a spark plug determines whether the spark plug is suitable for a given engine.

If you use, for example, spark plugs with too high a heat value, the insulator cone can become very hot.

The consequence may be unusual glow plugs that can destroy the motor.

Conversely, if we choose spark plugs with too low a heat number, they will not reach the required self-cleaning temperature, which will lead to contamination of the thermal cone of the insulator.

Preparatory operations:

For work, we need a candle wrench, a tester for checking candles, a probe, a torque wrench (if available).

Dismantling candles

We turn off the ignition. We blow out the channels where the spark plugs are inserted with compressed air so that no dirt gets into the hole when they are dismantled.

Remove the top plastic cover of the engine, Figure 1

Press the latch and disconnect the coil connector, Figure 2

Check the condition of the high voltage wires.

Frayed wires or wires with traces of soot must be replaced.

Be sure to remove street salt deposits from high voltage wires.

We unscrew the bolt securing the coil head E5

Removing the coil mounting bolt

We remove the rod coils, while paying attention to visible defects in the coil insulators.

There should be no cracks or signs of “burning” (from spark flashing) on the coil body.

We blow out the candle wells with compressed air so that when the candles are unscrewed, dirt does not get into the cylinders

Using a 16 spanner, unscrew the spark plugs

We remove the spark plugs with the same key

If the spark plug is "seated very tight", do not use force. Otherwise, the spark plug thread in the cylinder head may be stripped. In this case, bring the engine up to operating temperature, and then try to remove the spark plug. Wait with the installation of new spark plugs until the engine cools down. If screwed into hot engine cold candle, it will sit there as if welded.

Checking the condition of the candles

By the condition of the electrodes of the spark plug and the threaded part, you can determine whether the engine is operating optimally.

If the top of the thermal cone of the spark plug insulator is light gray to gray, the engine cylinder is working properly and the fuel injection system is well adjusted.

If the top of the thermal cone of the spark plug insulator is white, then the ignition timing is incorrect.

Black, soot-like deposits indicate that the spark plug does not reach its self-cleaning temperature (frequent short trips), incorrect glow number, too high carbon monoxide content.

Oily layer on the electrodes. Damaged piston rings, valve guides or valve stem seals. You may have used oil or fuel with additives. In this case, you need to change the oil or fuel with additives and check the condition of the spark plugs again.

Installation of candles

We prepare new candles for installation for this:

Use a feeler gauge to check the gap between the spark plug electrodes. The clearance is shown in the table above.

If the candle has a small gap, then we bend the outer electrode with a screwdriver, resting the screwdriver on the edge of the thread. In no case do not lean on the central electrode, as the insulator can be damaged.

If the candle has a large gap, then we bend the outer electrode by tapping on it from the side.

We inspect the candles for visible defects (we pay attention to the candle insulators), there should be no chips or cracks on the candle insulators.

We check the sparking of the candle with a tester.

We apply non-stick grease to the threaded part of the candle (you can use SHRUS-4 grease).

We install the candle in the cylinder head and screw it in with your fingers until it stops.

Tighten the spark plug with a torque wrench. If there is no torque wrench, then we tighten the candle by turning 90˚ for a new candle and 15˚ for a working candle.

Spark plugs applied to carLadaxray

Spark plugs for Vesta you need to choose based on what the engine costs. In its arsenal, Lada Vesta has 4 gasoline engines:

  • 8-valve VAZ-11189, 1.6 liters. At the moment, with this engine, the car is no longer available.
  • 16-valve VAZ-21129, 1.6 l
  • 16-valve VAZ-21179, 1.8 l
  • 16-valve Renault-Nissan HR16de/h4m, 1.6 l. Planned release with this engine in the near future.

From the conveyor in Lada Vesta engines you can find 2 types of candles:

  1. AU17DVRM- was installed on the first issues of Vesta. Price - from 60 rubles / piece. Manufacturer - Russian company STANDARD (Engels). The central electrode has a copper core. Declared resource (30 thousand km.) this model spark plugs work fine. According to the reviews of car owners using such candles, after 15 thousand kilometers, the engine starts to start poorly in the winter if the air temperature is below -15 degrees Celsius.
  2. Brisk Super DR15YC-1- Producer - Brisk (Czech Republic). average price- 55 rubles / piece. The material of the central electrode is copper. More common than the previous model. According to the reviews of the owners of Vesta with these candles, no operating problems were found. The resource declared by the plant is worked out well.

Spark plugs AU17DVRM

Spark Plugs Brisk Super DR15YC-1

According to the factory, the replacement of spark plugs for Lada Vesta should be done every 30 thousand kilometers. And although they real resource more work, such a spark plug replacement interval is recommended due to domestic harsh operating conditions (poor-quality fuel, polluted environment, etc.)

Technical characteristics of spark plugs Lada Vesta

For 16 valve engines spark plugs are “recessed” into the cylinder block itself, on Vesta 8-valve engines they are located on the surface of the cylinder block, which greatly simplifies their screwing in / out.

When you can pay attention to the analogues of the originals. The car manufacturer gives his recommendations on the selection of optimal spark plugs for each type of engine.

Recommended clearance - 1-1.1 mm. If this parameter does not correspond to some models of spark plugs, it is better to set it to the recommended one. On ordinary candles (not iridium) after 5-10 thousand. kilometers, the gap may increase by 0.05 mm. Therefore, it is highly desirable to check them at each MOT, and, if necessary, adjust the gap.

You can also install iridium candles, which have an extended service life (up to 60 thousand kilometers). The most popular candles with such an electrode for Vesta are Denso IQ20. Price - from 490 rubles / piece. According to customer reviews, when installed, the engine runs a little smoother, but there are no obvious advantages. The installation of iridium candles is not very advisable, since the price of one unit is on average equal to the price for a set of ordinary candles.

Like any car new crossover from AvtoVAZ with the name Lada X-Ray requires periodic maintenance. These measures are aimed at maintaining the car in working condition and eliminating minor malfunctions.

The automaker has drawn up a maintenance schedule and repair Lada X-Ray, which includes all types of work to keep the car in good condition. The first MOT Lada X-Ray must pass through 15 thousand km, all subsequent ones - through the same mileage.

THEN. What and when to do

The list of maintenance work Lada X-Ray is quite extensive. But most of these works can be described as "pull, listen, check." That is, to such routine maintenance items such as checking the level technical fluids, suspension diagnostics, checking backlash, tire pressure, lubricating hinges and locks, etc. In general, everything that an experienced car owner does on his own during operation, and not waiting for the odometer to show 15 thousand km.

But there is in the first MOT and work related to the replacement of some working fluids and consumables. So, during this service, the following are subject to replacement:

  • Oil and filter element;
  • Air filter element power plant;
  • cabin filter;

It is also mandatory to check the level of other technical fluids (and, if necessary, replenish) and the condition of the brake pads.

With TO-2, which is done after 30 thousand kilometers, the entire list of TO-1 work is performed in the service center, and the spark plugs are additionally replaced. TO-3 according to the list of works fully corresponds to TO-1, but the brake fluid is additionally replaced.

All work on maintenance are repeated up to TO-6. When hitting 90 thousand km. additional replacement requires an accessory drive belt along with a tension roller, as well as coolant.

It is worth noting here that although the automaker indicates that the timing belt must be replaced at 180 thousand km, it is better not to reach such a mileage and replace it during TO-6.

As for technical fluids, except for oil, they should also be changed every 3 years, if the car's mileage has not reached the required mark.

Let's sum up a little. Each must be replaced:

  • 15 thousand km - oil and filters, if necessary - pads;
  • 30 thousand km - candles;
  • 45 thousand km - brake fluid;
  • 90 thousand km - drive belts with tension rollers (timing and attachments);

These are the main types of work, and it is necessary to perform them. All other maintenance is mostly carried out during operation.

Nuances and features of maintenance

As you can see, the list of main types of services is not so significant, so do-it-yourself maintenance and repair of the Lada X-Ray is quite a feasible task, especially since you can save on this. The official service takes only for services from 5,000 to 10,000 rubles. (depending on the list of works), but you still need to buy replacement materials.

Of course, some of the other maintenance work on the Lada X-Ray cannot be done on its own. This concerns the adjustments of the running gear, diagnostics of the electronic component, etc. But in this case it is not necessary to go to the official service, because at any normal service station these works can also be performed and it will cost less.

Changing oil and filter elements

Let's start with the work related to TO-1, that is, the replacement lubricant and filter elements.

So, for draining the oil, it is provided drain plug installed on a pallet. To get to it, you will need to put the car on a pit or overpass. The existing crankcase protection will have to be dismantled to provide access to the sump.

A plug is located on the pallet, for unscrewing which you will need an 8 hexagon. For faster draining of the lubricant, before starting work, remove the cap from the oil filler neck.

The oil filter element is located at the rear of the cylinder block just above the sump. You can get to it while under the car. But to replace it, you must first disconnect the chip with the wiring located near the filter so that you do not damage it when unscrewing it.

It is not difficult to replace the air filter element of the power plant, since its housing is located in a conspicuous place (near the partition engine compartment). To replace it, just press the two latches on the sides of the case and pull it towards you and the filter will come out with the canister.

The cabin filter is located at the bottom rear of the center console. You can get to it from the passenger side. The filter housing cover is held on by two latches. To remove the cover, you only need to press these latches.

In the process of removing the filter element, it will have to be slightly crushed and pulled down, since it is impossible to pull it out normally due to the glove box. The new element is set in the same way.

In addition to replacing these materials, the level of other technical fluids should be checked. There will be no problems with brake and coolant, since their tanks are in a prominent place. Tank brake system located on the right next to air filter, and the coolant is on the left.

The power steering reservoir will cause the greatest problems, since it is located on the lower right, near the headlight. Getting to it to assess the fluid level is not easy.

To check, you can use a flashlight, which you need to shine on the tank.

We change candles

Replacing candles is not a difficult operation, but you will need a set of heads (including a 16 candle) with extension cords and knobs. Candles are located between the plastic pipes of the intake manifold and are easy to get to.

The technology for replacing candles is as follows:

Technical fluids

Brake fluid replacement is carried out at 45 thousand kilometers or every 3 years, if the car does not run such a mileage. The same applies to the coolant, although the automaker indicates that the antifreeze changes at 90 thousand km.

Replace brake fluid not difficult, but you need to do it with an assistant. The gist of the work is:

  • We repeat the pumping procedure until a new one comes out of the fitting pure liquid, then move on to another wheel.

In the process of pumping, be sure to control the level of liquid in the tank and replenish it.

To drain the antifreeze when replacing, a drain plug is provided on the cylinder block. But you can only get to it while under the car. It is located behind the starter, so it will have to be removed from the car. And only after that you can get to the plug to drain the coolant.

No plugs are provided on the radiator, and in order to drain the antifreeze from it, we unscrew the clamp securing the lower pipe and pull off the pipe. Before pouring new coolant, put the pipe and plug in place.

Changing drive belts

We turn to the most difficult type of work - replacing drive belts on Lada X-Ray, as well as their tension rollers.

In general, the accessory belt is not difficult to change. To get to it, remove the right front wheel. Behind him in the arch is a technological hole, closed with a plastic cover.

To remove the cover, unscrew the top plastic nut. Next, we pull out the edge of the cover, for which it needs to be pulled down, and also remove the fastening piston.

Through the technological hole you can get to the belt tensioner additional. equipment. To replace the drive element, loosen the nut by 13 rollers, because of which it will rotate and loosen the tension. It remains only to remove the belt from the pulleys, as well as completely remove the roller.

After installing a new drive element, put the roller in place and stretch it. To do this, turn the Torx 55 tension roller until it stops and fix it in this position with a nut.

The complexity of replacing the timing belt depends on the engine model. On 1.6-liter power units installed on the Lada X-Ray, the technology for replacing this belt is somewhat simpler.

The replacement method on such a motor is practically no different from any other 16-valve unit.

The general technology is:

  • We remove the drive. equipment;
  • Dismantling the drive pulley auxiliary units, for which it is necessary to fix the crankshaft;
  • We put emphasis on the engine and removes the upper right support;
  • We jack up the motor a little;
  • Remove the protective belt covers;
  • We set the marks on the timing and fix the gears in this position with a special device;
  • loosen the tension roller;
  • remove the belt and put a new one;
  • replace the roller and tighten the belt;
  • we collect everything back, making sure that there is no offset of marks;

The nuances of the 1.8-liter unit

On a 1.8 liter engine, the timing belt replacement operation is somewhat more complicated. Below are just some of the details of the work:

  • on the pulleys of the timing shafts installation marks missing. For fixing the distribution shafts, special grooves are used, made at the ends on the left (from the gearbox side);
  • To access the grooves of the shafts, there are plugs in the head. But the device has yet to be installed. To do this, you will have to dismantle the intake manifold, valve cover and drive disk;
  • To carry out the work, you will need a special device for fixing the switchgear. shafts. The fact is that with the correct setting of the distribution. shafts, the grooves in their ends are located vertically and it will not be possible to fix them with an ordinary plate, as is done on many engines.
  • Fixation crankshaft not provided by the design, so for this you have to come up with something. For example, you can make a latch that is installed instead of the knee position sensor. shaft.

And this is only part of the features of the work on replacing the timing belt on a 1.8-liter X-Ray engine. In reality, everything is much more complicated, since, for example, to remove the manifold, you will have to remove a number of auxiliary devices and their mounting brackets. In general, this type of service is quite labor intensive.

We change pads

The regulations for all maintenance of the Lada X-Ray indicate that they are subject to replacement and brake pads but only when needed.

Changing them on this car is easy. To replace consumables on the front disc brakes, you just need to remove the spring, unscrew the two bolts securing the caliper and remove it. Before planting the caliper on the new pads, you need to “drown” the piston inward so that it does not interfere with the installation.

At the rear, drum brakes are used on the X-Ray. The technology for replacing such pads is identical for all cars.

The video below will tell you in more detail about the features of the maintenance and repair of Lada X-Ray:

As you can see, with the exception of some types of work, servicing a new crossover from AvtoVAZ does not require any special knowledge or skills, since all types of work are similar to other cars, so for many car owners their implementation is a common thing.

No car with a gasoline engine is complete without periodic replacement of spark plugs. Naturally, domestic models are no exception. And therefore, the issue of replacing spark plugs with Lada Vesta worries many owners, as well as the opportunity to do everything on their own in order to save on service stations.

As for the regulations reflected in the manual, in accordance with it, the installation of new components must be carried out every 30,000 km.

Regular or iridium?

AvtoVAZ equips Vesta with Brisk super DR15YC-1 spark plugs. However, there are many offers on the market, and therefore the issue of choice should be dealt with separately. And it is the type of product that raises the most questions.

Spark plugs for Lada Vesta can be one of 2 types:

  1. Ordinary;
  2. Iridium.

With standard products, everything is generally clear. Therefore, the greatest interest concerns iridium. Many have heard that they are much better, but not everyone is ready to overpay when purchasing - after all, one iridium candle costs 2-3 times more than a set of ordinary 4 units!

In general, as tests show, including those of the authoritative publication "Behind the Rulem", iridium candles for Vesta are much better. They have a noticeably longer resource, which allows them to be replaced 2-3 times less often and save on the work of masters, the fuel consumption of the engine when they are worn out grows much more slowly than in the case of using conventional ones. The same goes for toxicity.

If you look objectively, then buying iridium spark plugs for Lada Vesta is worth it if you actively operate the car. If this is not the case, then they simply will not pay off, and therefore it is more expedient to get by with simple ones.

It is worth considering the quality of the fuel, because ruining the iridium components with “scorched” gasoline is much more offensive than simple ones.

Where could I buy?

You can buy spark plugs for Lada Vesta both in stationary car dealerships and via the Internet. The table shows the most popular options, indicating the articles, types, prices and other parameters.

Brand, model vendor code Type Kit (pcs.) Price, rub.)
Denso Spark Plug ik20tt iridium 1 650
Denso Power IQ20 iridium 1 599
Denso Iridium TT IQ20TT iridium 1 599
Brisk DR15YC-1 Ordinary 4 275
NGK BCPR6ES Ordinary 1 190
Lada 51110 Ordinary 4 300
Brisk 50694 Ordinary 1 70
NGK LZKAR7D-9D iridium 1 399
Denso IXEH20TT iridium 1 690

As you can see, there is a choice on the market. However, before placing an order, it is strongly recommended to consult with the manager, if necessary, specifying the engine model or dictating the VIN code.

Work progress

Self-replacement spark plugs on Lada Vesta is quite possible, but before work it is worth preparing the appropriate tools. In particular, a collar, an extension, an E-8 head, as well as a high 16 head.

All work must only be carried out on a cold engine. First of all, you need to open the hood, then, sharply pulling up, remove the plastic engine cover.

The algorithm of actions is demonstrated on the example of one ignition coil.

First of all, the block is disconnected from the ignition coil. To do this, press on the latch and pull.

Then, using the E-8 head, it is required to unscrew the screw securing the coil, and then remove the coil itself from the well.

This will open access to the Lada Vesta engine spark plug, which must be unscrewed using an extension cord and a 16 (high) head, and removed.

It happens that the candle does not stay in the head and remains in the well. In this case, the removed coil is used.

During installation, the candle must be twisted by hand. This is done to prevent damage to the threads in the cylinder head itself.

When the candle is not twisted along the thread, this is immediately clear, as the resistance increases sharply. If this happens, you must immediately unscrew the candle, carefully clean the threads and tighten it again.

Tightening is carried out with a torque of 25-30 Nm.

IMPORTANT! Do not overtighten the spark plug in the Lada Vesta engine, as this can cause thread defects in the cylinder head.

The remaining three candles change in the same way.

This completes the independent replacement of spark plugs for Lada Vesta.

Among fans of AvtoVAZ products, rumors have been circulating for quite a long time regarding the cost of servicing new models. There are especially many questions about the version of the Lada X Ray crossover with a 1.6-liter engine from the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Moreover, the intensity of passions has reached such a peak that it is definitely worth sorting out this issue.

Back in his tenure as president of the domestic automaker, Bu Inge Andersson tried to ensure that the new items created with his filing - Lada X Ray and Lada Vesta - had as little as possible in common with previously produced models. After all, only the lazy did not kick VAZ products, since the quality really left much to be desired. And the emotions from the car were not the most rosy.

And, as it turned out, the Swede managed to break the "traditions" that no one could overcome for years. New sedan and hatchback can adequately compete in their segment even with market leaders, and in some aspects they are noticeably better. The assembly has become an order of magnitude better, there are no more incomprehensible noises and creaks, and the handling of the machines is in order.

The engine situation

However, all this had to be paid for with a large number of imported components, which was not slow to affect the price. But even more interesting is the situation with the motors. From the very beginning, a 106-horsepower, 1.6-liter engine was chosen as the engine for Lada Vesta. But under the hood of X Ray installed a foreign engine. However, he was known to the Russians by the models of the Alliance - Nissan Tiida, Nissan Sentra, Nissan Juke, Renault Duster and others.

Technologically, it is distinguished by the presence of a timing chain drive and an aluminum cylinder block. The motor was derated to 110 hp. from. and 150 Nm, which guaranteed dynamics for Lada X Ray in 11.1 seconds. up to a hundred, as well as a maximum speed of 181 km / h.

At the moment, you can buy LADA XRAY with such an engine, but you will have to agree exclusively to mechanical box gears, as well as for the non-alternative configuration "Yubileynaya". The price of a 110-horsepower X Ray is 799,000 rubles.

Reviews about the model

AvtoVAZ itself quotes its own car quite highly. In particular, there is a competent setting of the chassis, which allows you to actively maneuver. Not the last role here is played by the front subframe and gas-filled shock absorbers, which provide traction with the surface. The energy intensity of the suspension, combined with a large ground clearance and decent geometric cross-country ability, make it possible not to worry on the country road and in the city. And the driver's seat, comfortable interior and excellent sound insulation complete the picture.

Yes, and the owners in their reviews note that a car equipped with an H4M engine causes practically no trouble. There are no problems with dynamics, it is also not noticed in noise, and the appetite is small - usually it does not rise above 9 liters even in a metropolis.

Difficulty with buying

As it became clear, LADA XRAY with a 110-horsepower engine is sold in only one configuration for a reason. The reason is to reduce costs and reduce the price of a car. In order to reduce the cost of hatchbacks, the "Nissan" engine is being removed from service, and its place is taken by a domestic power unit, with a capacity of 106 liters. with., as well as on Vesta.

Is there a difference in maintenance costs?

This question is much more important than it seems at first glance. Indeed, given roughly the same power, torque, and slight differences in performance, many would expect the service price tags to be about the same. But it was not there! There is a difference and it is very significant!

In order to understand this, it is enough to simply calculate the total costs for the scheduled maintenance of LADA XRAY with a 110-horsepower H4M engine. For example, it is reasonable to take a mileage of 90,000 km and prices in Moscow dealer centers LADA. In addition, it is immediately necessary to clarify - the service interval for the "Nissan" H4M engine and the domestic 106-horsepower unit is the same - 15,000 km. You can also fill them with the same oil from Rosneft.

In the list of operations and components in the first 5 MOT - up to a run of 75,000 km - there are no differences. Mandatory replacement engine oil and filters (air, cabin and oil). The difference is only in price, since components for a foreign motor are slightly more expensive than for a domestic one. In particular, the amounts differ for TO-1, TO-3 and TO-5 - for X Ray with Russian engine maintenance will cost 5,900 rubles per visit, and for a hatchback with an H4M under the hood - 6,500 rubles.

Everything is complicated by the situation with spark plugs. The replacement interval is indicated at 30,000 km, but not everything is so simple. For the VAZ engine, their cost is already included in the price of TO-2 and TO-4, which cost 6,400 rubles each. But the owners of X-Rays with H4M units have to pay separately for both candles and replacement. As a result, TO-2 and TO-4 cost 8800 rubles each, and another 4000 rubles for each of these TOs will go to replace the candles.

This cost is due to 2 factors:

  1. For H4M, candles from NGK are used, while candles from Bosch are used for the Russian motor Russian production(Saratov);
  2. The complexity of the replacement - for this you have to dismantle the intake manifold and throttle.

However, the biggest expenses await the owner of an imported motor after passing the first 90,000 km, when the time comes for TO-6. For the owner of X Ray with a Russian engine, this MOT will cost 12,000 rubles, but the owner of a hatchback with an H4M engine will have to pay as much as 34,500 rubles to the dealer (including candles)!

The almost 3-fold difference in price is due to the cost of the alternator belt and rollers. For a Nissan engine, they are much more expensive than for a Russian one.

The result is not the most rosy, because for the first 90,000 km, the owner of a Lada X Ray with a domestic, 106-horsepower engine will need to pay a total of 42,500 rubles. But the cost of the owner of LADA XRAY with the H4M engine will reach 79,600 rubles. The final difference is 37,100 rubles.

Is it a lot or a little?

Indeed, some will say that for 90,000 km you can fork out an extra 37,100 rubles. However, many will object. Nevertheless, LADA XRAY belongs to the budget segment, where not only the cost of the car itself is important, but also the cost of its maintenance. On the other hand - dynamics, noise isolation, etc. - they are not looked at so closely.

In light of such expenses, there are fewer and fewer people who are disappointed that AvtoVAZ is no longer producing the X-Ray with a “Nissan” engine. In addition, the start of sales of a crossover with a 122-horsepower Russian engine more than compensates for the loss.

All the efforts of the ex-director of AvtoVAZ, Bo Andersson, were aimed at distancing the two Togliatti novelties - Lada Vesta and Xray - from everything that was previously produced at the factory, saving cars from the burden of a sad reputation. And this is not only about improving the quality of the product and production culture, but also about the overall feeling of the car. "Xray" and "Vesta" became pleasant to manage, they compete on equal terms with bestsellers budget segment, and in some consumer properties they are completely superior.

In the new Ladas, nothing else rattles, cracks or falls off, although this was achieved largely due to the widespread use of imported components. True, if Vesta was originally born with a Togliatti engine under the hood, then the raised Xray hatchback began its market career with a foreign H4M engine, familiar from many models of the Renault-Nissan concern - starting with Sentra, Tiida and Juke and ending with Duster. In the Togliatti specification, a 1.6-liter engine with an aluminum block and a timing chain drive develops 110 hp. (150 Nm), providing "Xray" with mechanics acceleration to 100 km / h in 11.1 s and top speed 181 km/h

The correspondent of AutoVesti just uses such a Lada Xray as personal car, and there are no special complaints about the engine: the dynamics on the “handle” are sufficient, the average fuel consumption in Moscow traffic jams in winter does not exceed 8.6 liters, the engine noise does not press on the ears.

Here is what the manufacturer himself writes about the dynamics and comfort of Lada Xray:

Only today it is possible to buy an Xray of that very “Bu-Andersson” era with a Renault-Nissan engine only in a single configuration - in order to reduce the cost of production, AvtoVAZ is gradually removing this unit from the list motor range hatchback, replacing it with a Togliatti 1.6-liter engine with 106 hp. with the index 21129, which is set to Vesta.

So is there a fundamental difference between the two 1.6-liter engines in practice? - It seems to be similar power, close return. By dynamic characteristics the cars may be similar, but the cost of their maintenance turned out to be obscenely different - in accordance with the name and origin. AutoVesti decided to contact official dealers Lada in Moscow and calculate how much the scheduled maintenance of the Lada Xray with the H4M unit actually costs, and how much it will cost the owner to maintain the hatchback over 90,000 km.

To begin with, the service interval prescribed by AvtoVAZ for both models is the same and is 15,000 km, and the cost of each service will be indicated taking into account the use of Rosneft engine oil. The list of works and materials up to TO-5 at 75 thousand km is generally identical for both cars (oil, as well as oil, air and cabin filters), but each of the original consumables for the "Nissan" engine consistently costs a couple of hundred rubles more than the "VAZ" ones. For example, if TO-1,3,5 for the Togliatti version cost 5,900 rubles, then the owner of the H4M will have to pay 6,500 rubles.

Additionally, every 30,000 km require a replacement spark plug, and there is one interesting nuance. If for the VAZ 21129 engine they are already included in the cost of maintenance (TO-2.4 - 6,400 rubles), then in the case of the H4M engine, the candles themselves and the work to replace them must be paid separately! And this is 4,000 rubles in excess of the base figure of 8,800 rubles for TO-2.4. You ask why such a figure suddenly runs up? The fact is that for an elementary replacement of spark plugs in a Renault-Nissan engine, it is necessary to remove the intake manifold along with the throttle, and the spark plugs themselves here are from NGK instead of localized Russian Bosch from Saratov.

However, we left the most interesting for dessert. On a run of 90,000 km, the owner of the Nissan unit needs to pay 34,500 rubles for TO-6 at once (already including candles), while the owner of an Xray with a domestic engine will pay only 12,000 rubles. The pricing element here is the accessory drive belt and its rollers, which for the H4M are incomparably more expensive than Russian components. Thus, for 90,000 km of run, the owner of the "bu-Andersson's" Xray will need to pay only for scheduled maintenance 79,600 rubles for your car (and this is without taking into account pads and other consumables), while the “VAZ” version will require only 42,500 rubles. The difference is as much as 37,100 rubles!

Say, on the scale of a large mileage, is this a little? No matter how! Many Lada Xray buyers, when choosing a suitable version, are not ready to allocate even an extra “twenty” for an upgrade to the top-level configuration. It is important to remember that in this segment of cars, it is not the seconds in acceleration to hundreds and not even the noise from the engine that are decisive, but real costs for maintenance and repair.

In other words, miracles do not happen: if you love imported motors, love to pay for service at the “imported” price list. Maybe then we should not be so sad about the absence of the H4M engine under the hood of the Xray? In the end, AvtoVAZ offered buyers an alternative - its own 122-horsepower 1.8-liter engine. More powerful and dynamic, but still the same easy-to-maintain unit as the 1.6 liter.

P.S. If you think that there is nothing so terribly expensive in your car, then you simply haven’t read our new research, stay tuned. We promise new tears every week. 🙂

How to replace the spark plugs of a car Lada Xray

The manufacturer prescribes the replacement of spark plugs after a run of 60,000 km. As a rule, during normal operation, candles withstand this interval. If the engine does not start well or runs with jerks after starting, the spark plugs may also be the cause.

For all engines of the Lada Xray, the cylinders are ignited in the order 1-3-4-2.

Spark plugs applied to car Lada xray

Preparatory operations:

For work, we need a candle wrench, a tester for checking candles, a probe, a torque wrench (if available).

Dismantling candles

We turn off the ignition. We blow out the channels where the spark plugs are inserted with compressed air so that no dirt gets into the hole when they are dismantled.

  1. Remove the top plastic cover of the engine, Figure 1
  1. Press the latch and disconnect the coil connector, Figure 2

Check the condition of the high voltage wires. Frayed wires or wires with traces of soot must be replaced. Be sure to remove street salt deposits from high voltage wires.

  1. We unscrew the bolt securing the coil head E5
  2. Removing the coil mounting bolt
  1. We remove the rod coils, while paying attention to visible defects in the coil insulators.

There should be no cracks or signs of “burning” (from spark flashing) on the coil body.

  1. We blow out the candle wells with compressed air so that when the candles are unscrewed, dirt does not get into the cylinders
  1. Using a 16 spanner, unscrew the spark plugs

If you screw a cold spark plug into a hot engine, it will sit there as if welded.
