The build quality, of course, is decent (except that the cover of the armrest box is slightly loose, but we’ll write it off for this test copy), the door trim is interesting and of high quality, but the plastic in the design of the dashboard and on the steering wheel core is hard.

The Bose acoustic system once again pleased with a clear and high-quality sound, and the climate control (only single-zone is available) cooled the air in the cabin to 18 ° C in a few hours.

Steering - as on the MX-5: with polished "glossy" plastic and a convex core. But honking is inconvenient: you need to put pressure not on the entire bulge, but only on its center. But the seats are good. Although they do not have a sports grip, but the anatomical shape allows you to sit tight and very comfortable. And you don't have to drive!

By the way, the steering wheel here is with a variable force: at low speed it is filled with tangible weight, and at high speed the sharpness subsides and a small backlash appears, which protects against accidental changes in the trajectory. It is worth noting that it will be more difficult for tall people to get comfortable: the column is adjustable only in height.

The CX-7 is slower than the MPS trio. This is not surprising, because the crossover is 150 kg heavier, and the 2.3-liter turbo engine has been derated to 236 hp. with., to digest the 95th gasoline.

If the Mazda3 MPS “didn’t know” what to do with such a “herd”, then the “seven” lacks it a little: acceleration to 100 km / h in less than 8 s is, of course, not bad. (By the way, it’s easy to navigate here, because even in the “drive” mode, the “automatic” tells you which gear is on).

If he is not properly looked after, then at 90 km / h, or even earlier, he will switch to “sixth” on his own initiative, trying to save fuel. However, if you believe the readings of the flow meter, you can’t save much: the most immodest consumption according to the passport was 15.3 liters (in the urban cycle), and we were shown, on average, as much as 24.7 liters from the screen! I don't want to believe...

In any case, if you are counting on a dynamic ride, you should not trust electronic gear shifting. If you are not lazy and put the gear selector in mechanical mode, the CX-7 appears to be much more sporty than it seemed before ...

Mazda combines successful dynamics with decent behavior where the asphalt ends. Four-wheel drive - or rather, front-wheel drive with elements of a complete crossover inherited from the Mazda6 MPS. As soon as the front wheels “enter” on a slippery surface, the differential will instantly transfer part of the moment to the rear wheels, and they will help the front ones.

Huge clearance (208 mm!) allows you to forget about curbs (or curbs - whatever), but the corners of entry and exit will not let you off-road. But it's easy to go around the traffic jam on the grass!

It is authentically known that the serial production of the Mazda CX-7 was discontinued due to technical obsolescence, and its inability to compete with the more advanced, both in terms of design and in terms of technical characteristics, the Mazda CX 5.

It is worth noting that the mid-size crossover discussed in this article was quite controversial from the very beginning. As conceived by the development engineers, it was created with a focus on the US market, where cars of this class are especially popular. Less than a year after the overseas "debut", Mazda began to offer the CX-7 in the European market.

This is where it went wrong, because all-wheel drive model was the best suited for confident driving on perfectly smooth roads at high speed, and not for Russian off-road.

The running car was unprepared for pits and potholes. As a result, the owners of the CX-7 were forced to repair the front suspension quite often, as its support legs fell into disrepair every 40 thousand kilometers on average.

Ball joints cannot boast of durability, for which 60 thousand km are a critical figure. The most annoying thing is that they have to be changed along with completely serviceable silent blocks and front levers, which costs the owners of the crossover a pretty penny.

From a technical point of view, the motor turned out to be far from perfect. With a run of 30-40 thousand km, replacing a turbine is a common occurrence.

The first sign that it's time to change the turbine is thick white smoke from the muffler.

This service, both at specialized and dealer service stations, is quite expensive, which cannot but affect the cost of the Mazda CX-7 in the secondary market.

"Weaknesses" Mazda CX 7

The list of shortcomings of this model is not limited to a small turbine resource. Among the obvious "misses" of the developers, explaining why the car is so cheap, can also be attributed to several items.

  1. Pretty impressive fuel consumption. According to the manufacturer, the gasoline version with a 2.3-liter engine and 238 horsepower consumes about 15 liters of fuel in the urban cycle, and a little more than 9 on the highway. The owners of this crossover have a completely different opinion on this matter. They almost unanimously declare that real numbers much more: 17-19 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 10-12 on the highway. As for off-road, this figure even reaches the mark of 20 liters per 100 km.
  2. Short service life of the lambda probe (front oxygen sensor), the failure of which may be indicated by the “jitter” of the car during acceleration. The most interesting thing is that the most common topping up can become the cause of the breakdown. brake fluid when replacing pads, because oxygen sensors are extremely sensitive to additives contained in fuels and lubricants.
  3. Removal of brake discs. « Weak point The pre-styling Mazda CX-7 cars are brake discs that cannot boast of resistance to temperature extremes at all. Getting into snow or a puddle, even after a little braking, is sometimes enough to jar them. It is worth noting that by the last years of production, the manufacturer solved this problem by changing the material for brake pads and disks, and installing new casings.
  4. Unsuccessful decisions of engineers regarding the engine and automatic transmission - therefore, you need to constantly monitor them. If you stop monitoring these units, then over time, one malfunction will cause further avalanches, more and more expensive to fix.
  5. Bad soundproofing.

There are a lot of complaints about other Mazda CX 7 units. In particular, owners often complain that the razdatka is flowing and rear gears, as well as headlights fogging up, which in turn leads to the need for costly repairs.

All of the above in combination forms not the most positive image of a car among potential buyers, which negatively affects demand in the secondary market.

Reducing the price in this case is one of the options to remedy the situation. That is why the cost of the Mazda CX-7 is an order of magnitude lower than cars of a similar class.
