Subaru history. Household side of the crossover

The appearance of this model was preceded by the debut of the Impreza XV. In a year Japanese manufacturer radically improved the model, giving it more off-road qualities, and separated the XV into an independent model, removing the Impreza prefix.

The production model Subaru XV was presented in Frankfurt on September 13, 2012. The car has become noticeably larger and more brutal than the Impreza XV. It is based on the platform from the Impreza, but the crossover is much larger than the hatchback in size. The length grew to 4.45 meters, the width to 1.78 meters, and the height to 1.57 meters. The wheelbase of the car is 2635 mm. The high ground clearance (22 cm) completes the picture.

Subaru XV is a crossover that combines outstanding appearance and functionality. The exterior is made in the corporate style of the brand. Attention is drawn to the aggressive look of the front of the car, formed, which has become branded, a hexagonal radiator grille with chrome-plated “wings” and headlights of intricate geometry. Japanese designers and engineers managed to harmoniously combine the crossover's off-road practicality (with its short overhangs, raised bumpers and plastic body kit around the perimeter) and sporty spirit (expressed in a large windshield tilt angle, a sloping roof shape flowing into rear spoiler).

Developing the interior, Subaru's specialists didn't get smart, and therefore, the XV almost completely repeats the interior of the Impreza hatchback. In short, the interior of the car is very commonplace. In the center dashboard located information display, which displays data on the operation of the main components and assemblies. The center console received a large color touchscreen, embodying the functions of a navigation system and a multimedia center. The image of the outdoor cameras is also projected here.

You can’t call the luggage compartment roomy, only 310 liters. It saves that the rear sofa unfolds into a flat floor, which increases the trunk volume to 570 liters. You can limit yourself to folding only one half of the sofa.

The model has exceptional running characteristics and economical fuel consumption. The range of engines consists of three units: two petrol engines with a volume of 1.6 and 2.0 liters with a capacity of 115 and 150 hp. respectively, and a 2.0 liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 147 hp. crankshaft, low carbon emissions and improved economy.

Machine with 2.0 liter gasoline engine develops top speed at 187 km / h, and with a turbodiesel - 198 km / h, and equipped with a 1.6 liter - 179 (175 - for the variator) km / h.

For the Russian market, the Subaru XV is offered with two engines, 1.6 and 2.0 liters, with a capacity of 114 and 150 Horse power. The first is offered in pairs or with a 5-speed mechanical box gears, or with a continuously variable "variator" Lineartronic, the second engine - either with a 6-speed manual transmission or with the same Lineartronic.

The new Lineartronic CVT is, according to Subaru, "innovative engineering." main feature variator - installation of a chain for transmitting torque between two variator pulleys. This solution made it possible to increase the efficiency by approximately 5% compared to the belt construction. In addition, by optimizing the position of the shafts and other main internal components, the continuously variable transmission turned out to be more compact and light, which led to an improvement in all key indicators: reduced fuel consumption, improved ride and feedback.

There are MacPherson struts up front and double wishbones in the back. Disc brakes are installed on all four wheels, and the front pair is ventilated. Naturally, there is a proprietary system of symmetrical all-wheel drive AWD. Depending on the transmission, all-wheel drive is based on either a multi-plate clutch with electronic control or viscous coupling with center and self-locking differential. CVT vehicles use an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch that distributes torque in a 60:40 ratio. The transmission control module responds to driving conditions such as acceleration, hill climbing, cornering, and regulates the distribution of torque between the front and rear wheels in real time. For example, when front wheel slip is detected, the system increases the proportion of torque distributed to the rear wheels, thereby providing significant tractive effort.

The model has a high level of safety and received the maximum rating of "5 stars" in the European New Car Assessment Program tests ( Euro NCAP) in 2011. The use of high tensile strength steel sheets in the body frame has resulted in weight savings. This model has one of the lightest bodies in its class, and offers classic strength, in particular, increased bending stiffness.

The sloped driver's footplate is thicker than previous models to increase its strength and protect the driver from pedaling backwards in the event of a collision. Reinforcing elements are used at the base of the A-pillar to increase the strength of the connection between the A-pillar and the upper frame. This ensures that the impact energy generated in a frontal collision is effectively transferred from the frame to the strut. This feature offers a high level of safety in terms of crash protection. High-strength elements are used in the sidewalls of the car, where there are few deformable zones. This helps to minimize body deformation in the event of a side collision. Transition to double beam structure for back door helped limit the level of panel distortion around the outside door handle, enhancing occupant protection in the event of a side impact.

The rear of the chassis is designed so that the offset rear impact energy is evenly distributed to the left and right by diagonal members, helping to minimize cabin distortion. In line with the new Euro NCAP protocol, Subaru has increased the foamed energy absorber and bumper lower center bracket.

Having inherited new design seat model Subaru Legacy, the seats are designed to limit the severity of neck injury and gently guide occupant traffic in the event of a collision. The developers didn’t forget about the airbags either – the Subaru XV has a complete set of them: front, side, curtains, driver’s rut airbag. Moreover, the front cushions have a so-called double structure - a fold in the center, so that the passenger's neck is subjected to less impact when deployed. But that's not all: the front cushions open first in width, and then in volume, which eliminates the possibility of a person's head slipping to the side during its opening. Airbags for the driver's knees have also been introduced. By expanding the coverage area, curtain airbags support a wider range of occupant shapes and positions.

Quick jump to sections

Subaru XV model year treat cars of a rather peculiar segment. Everything in it is like a blueprint. The cars of this segment have similar characteristics, designs, engines, and the equipment, in general, does not shine with special originality. These are compact crossovers. These vehicles don't need to be ultra-passable, ultra-fast, or roomy like a truck. For most parameters, they all revolve around some average values. Fortunately, there are exceptions to this rule, in particular,.

At one time, the XV hatched from the Impreza hatchback, one of the versions of which it once was. About five years ago, the already independent XV model appeared first as a concept, and soon the production version arrived in time. So, this car can hardly be called a hot novelty, if not for one circumstance. XV appeared, in which you can see the inscription Active Edition on the trunk lid, this is the name of the special version created specifically for Russia.
Against the background of most competitors, the XV looks combative and provocative, which is largely explained by the geometry, because it is not inferior in length and width to other XV-class cars a little lower.

Household side of the crossover

On the Internet, on the official page of the Subaru Active Edition, you can see a funny thing. The fact is that the cargo compartment is shown there in a strange way. In some images, it was taken with a wide-angle lens, which deforms space, in others, from some strange high point. Accident? I don't think. Because there, in the section specifications, only the total volume of the trunk with the rear seats folded down is 1200 liters. All this was done in order to gracefully get around an unpleasant fact: in the Russian version of the car, the volume of the cargo compartment is 310 liters, and by the standards of the class, this is really small.

This happened partly because of the underground in which the dokatka lives. If you replace it with a repair kit, the cargo compartment would certainly become much larger, but in our latitudes it is better to have a stowaway. Once in a lifetime, having received a side cut of one of the wheels, you understand this once and for all. However, rear seats fold very conveniently, and in parts in a ratio of 40:60. On the back sofa - no revelations. Two will settle down, and the three of them will no longer be too comfortable.

Geometric patency

If you look at the car in profile, you can see one important thing. She has perfect order with geometric permeability. The angle of entry is quite decent, the front overhang is relatively small, the rear bumper is generally very short, high, looks dashing, it’s not easy to hook it on something off-road.

But the most important thing is ground clearance, because those 22 cm that separate the bottom of the XV from the ground, this, if not a class record, is close to that.

Engine compartment

Subaru XB - a unique car, the only one in the world compact crossover with boxer engine. Even Porsche doesn't have anything like it. Today it is a rarity - a one-of-a-kind car. True, the engine volume is 2 liters and has a power of 150 hp. - these are not the numbers that excite the imagination. The torque, by the way, is almost 200 Nm. Behind the engine is a continuously variable transmission Lineartronic and with it the car accelerates to hundreds in 10.7 seconds. To be honest, this value also does not excite, but not everything in this world is measured in numbers.

Let's take a look inside the salon

Red stitching will now be in all updated Subaru XB crossovers. The upper part of the front panel is finished with a material that feels a bit like rubber. Otherwise, the plastic is quite simple, and the design is devoid of any extraordinary solutions. All this, however, in the tradition of the brand. Although there are exceptions. Let's say here a new, quite decent multimedia system with good graphics and a fairly large monitor. Before there was something creepy with graphics, like a calculator.

There is also a second screen, a little higher. He is for technical information. You can look at the fuel consumption, expressed in charts, or the subtleties of the four-wheel drive transmission. There are also such strange things as an indicator of the degree of pressing the gas pedal. Why does the crossover driver need this information? Another screen, also in color, on the dashboard.
Not without savings on matches, too. So, only one button is highlighted on the power window control unit, and the volume control of the multimedia system has to be looked for by touch. The automatic power window mode is only on the driver's window, and the rear view camera does not draw the intended territory. There are no parking sensors, and electric adjustments are present only on the driver's seat.

Driving sensations

The transmission has no special sport mode, but by and large it is not needed, because even a regular drive behaves quite cocky. If desired, you can switch to manual control and click the paddles on the steering wheel. They switch virtual gears because the 2016 Subaru XB has a CVT and no real gears.

The response to the gas pedal is quite sharp and, which pleases, also fast, and the variator is set up very correctly, so the engine stays in good shape all the time and the car literally follows the gas pedal. Acceleration to 100 km / h is leisurely, but at city speeds it is not felt. The car is very playful. Of course, on the track, its ardor fades somewhat, but still, this crossover cannot be called slow.

Compared to the pre-styling version, sound insulation has been improved. Not to say that the salon has turned into a recording studio, but it has become more comfortable. As for fuel consumption, it was 10-12 liters per hundred and did not fall below, although, according to the manufacturer's data, Subaru XV consumes more than 10 liters only in the city, and in the combined cycle it should cost about 8 liters of gasoline. In a word, the expense is higher than stated, but within reason.

Here, of course, there is four-wheel drive, the Subaru origin obliges, but let's not forget that the Subaru collection has several all-wheel drive systems and, say, one scheme is used on machines with mechanics, and another on versions with a CVT. In her rear axle connected via an electronically controlled clutch. It would seem, as on many crossovers, but if usually cars of this class try to remain front-wheel drive to the last and drive the rear wheels only in case of urgent need, then in Subaru all-wheel drive is permanent. 60% of the torque is sent to the front axle, the remaining 40% to the rear, in normal road conditions. Of course, in the case of slippage, this ratio may change.

Another Subaru signature is suspension. The car stands well on the road, does not heel in corners, thanks for this I must say a low center of gravity, which is explained by the presence of a boxer motor.

Off-road

The most important thing in the Subaru XB is how it behaves outside the tarmac. In fact, there are not so many cars in this class that can be famously bludgeoned on the primer. The suspension is very energy-intensive, smoothes the terrain, you want to drive this car and drive with pleasure. It is outside the usual paved roads that the seemingly deceased Subaru rally genes of past decades are felt, and this is worth a lot.

And if you turn off the safety electronics on rolled snow or ice, then the XV will willingly go sideways, thanks to the permanent all-wheel drive. You keep control over the car easily, intuitively. Here it is - genetics, and in this you can see the developers' trust in potential buyers, which manifests itself just in such trifles. Electronics, of course, feel the slip, flashing lights on the dashboard, but does not prevent the driver from driving the way he wants.

To summarize in this case is quite simple. The main disadvantage is frankly poor, in today's times, electronic equipment. Key advantages: good geometric cross-country ability, energy-intensive, hardy suspension and of course permanent all-wheel drive. In this context, it is not surprising that with this wonderful crossover Subaru XB Japanese company ready to leave only in exchange for 1.7 million rubles. Convincing value, because if we compare the car with other similar all-wheel drive crossovers, about the same power, it turns out that Volkswagen Tiguan, Kisa Sportage and Nissan Qashqai you can buy cheaper, and the Mazda CX-5 can be bought cheaper, although in principle Mazda has never been famous for especially humane price tags either.

History reference

Subaru is a brand that many of us associate with real racing. We will not retell this whole long sports history, we will touch on only one curious round of history, which happened not so long ago.

Subaru's rally history, in fact, began with the advent of the Legacy model, before that they raced the Leon model in separate stages of the rally cup and, as they say, it was clean. Then comes the all-wheel drive Legacy. They start investing money and the whole story began in 1991, when an unknown British guy named McRae won the rally championship in his homeland. Then the guy ceases to be unknown to anyone, wins the championship for the second time. Then Carlos Sainz wins some kind of race on the first version of the racing Impreza.

By the way, the Subaru Legacy in the racing version left the rally scene very beautifully and even spectacularly. That is, the last race with the participation of Legacy ended with her Legacy in the afternoon. Then comes the Impreza era. 1995, Colin McRae World Champion, Subaru wins the Constructors' Championship, Constructors' Championship in 1996 and 1997. Subaru entered the sporting elite.

True, then things did not go so brilliantly, only the second and third places were won, but at the beginning of the 2000s they improved. Richard Burns won the World Championship and Peter Solberg, both with Subaru. In general, being a Subaru pilot in the highest echelon is a difficult task. Because two champions, McRae and Burns, died early, one at 38, the other at 34.
On the other hand, Carlos Sainz and Peter Solberg show us that it is possible to drive for Subaru and still live debt, happily and tear everyone in the races decade after decade. It doesn't matter, something else matters. That stage is basically over. Subaru has left the rally scene. In 2008, they said: that's it, we've had enough. Like, the company has fulfilled its goals and leaves the championship. Well, the story is over.

However, not so long ago, Subaru had a Levorg station wagon, which is not for sale in Russia. Not so long ago they launched a racing program, but not in a rally, but in a ring. The Levorg is prepared for them by the same team that made all the rally Subaru. They roll out to the British Touring Car Championship and take first place in their second year of participation. There is an interesting parallel here. The rally history of Subaru began with the fact that an unknown driver at the age of 23 wins the British championship on Subaru.

Last year, again, an unknown athlete for 23 years won the British Circuit Racing Championship on Levorg. That is, it is worth waiting for the next season, maybe Subaru will go to the second round. But there is something disturbing here. Come to think of it, Subaru's rally history isn't as glorious as it's often made out to be. Because three Constructors' Championships and three Drivers' Championships is great, but it's hard to compare with the achievements of Citroen or Ford. A lot of time has passed since then, and the whole story has been forgotten, if not for one “but”.

Subaru is not associated with rally due to the titles won 10-20 years ago. It is associated with rally due to countless national, some regional competitions and their cups. But in all these rally competitions, they drove Impreza. Year after year, decade after decade. exactly Subaru Impreza WRX, it was at, let's say, the grassroots level of rally that made its brand a legend. And now it's not enough to win the British championship, Subaru must make a car that will become the same "VERSE" on the pavement, which was the old "VERSE" in the world of rally racing. Is it possible to do this? Can Subaru today make such a sports car that will tear Behu, Audi, Merce? There is a question here. In this sense, the ring of history, most likely, will not enter the second round.

The first-generation Subaru XV crossover was launched in Japan in 2011.

The car was an "off-road" version of the hatchback with increased ground clearance to 220 mm and a decorative body kit. Gasoline engines 1.6 (114 hp) and 2.0 (150 hp) were installed on the car in combination with “mechanics” or a variator, as well as a two-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 147 hp. With. paired with a manual transmission. Later, a hybrid crossover with a two-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor was made for Japan.

All versions have permanent four-wheel drive, and cars with a 1.6-liter engine and a manual gearbox also had a reduction gear.

In 2012, Subaru XV began to be sold in Russia. We have only been supplied petrol cars, prices started at 974,000 rubles. A couple of years later, versions with manual gearboxes and 1.6-liter engines left the Russian market.

After a slight modernization in 2014, the crossover received modified suspension and steering settings, a different interior trim and a new multimedia system.

In 2015, the model was restyled: the Subaru XV had a slightly updated appearance, the suspension and steering, a new steering wheel and instrument panel appeared in the cabin. In Russia, such cars began to be sold in 2016 at a price of 1.6 million rubles - we offered only two-liter cars, for some time the version with “mechanics” returned to the market.

Production crossover Subaru XV of the first generation ended in 2017.

As conceived by the developers, the Subaru XV was supposed to be a combination of functionality, style and comfort while driving.

Original appearance and the undeniable advantages of this crossover allowed it to be highly appreciated worldwide among its class. The model has a high level of safety and received the maximum rating of "5 stars" in the tests of the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) in 2011. The Subaru XV was also awarded by the Euro NCAP Committee in 2012 and 2017 for Best Safety Performance in the Small Family Car class.

The lineup

Subaru XV is equipped with three engines:

  • 1.6i
  • 2.0i
  • 2.0D
  • 2.0i hybrid

At low crankshaft speeds, high torque is produced, acceleration is fast and linear.

To date, on Russian market Subaru models equipped with petrol engine only are available.

Subaru XV engine features

For the Subaru XV, a new, lighter, more compact and more environmentally friendly continuously variable transmission "Lineartronic" has been developed. Through the combination new transmission With the new engine, the Subaru XV offers excellent handling and maintains low fuel consumption.

Safety

The Subaru XV has been awarded the highest 5-star rating in safety testing under the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP). The use of high tensile strength steel sheets in the body frame has resulted in weight savings. This model offers classic strength, in particular, increased bending stiffness.

The move to a double beam structure for the tailgate helped limit the amount of panel distortion around the outside door handle, enhancing occupant protection in the event of a side impact.

The rear of the chassis is designed so that the offset rear impact energy is evenly distributed to the left and right by diagonal members, helping to minimize cabin distortion. In line with the new Euro NCAP protocol, Subaru has increased the foamed energy absorber and bumper lower center bracket.

Inheriting the new seat design of the Subaru Legacy model, the seats are designed to limit the severity of neck injury and gently guide occupant traffic in the event of a collision. The front passenger airbag has a central fold so that the passenger's neck is subjected to less impact when deployed. The structure of the airbag has also been optimized to reduce weight. The structure of the side cushions has been designed to reduce the severity of injury in unusual situations, such as when a child leans against a door.

Subaru XV is equipped with large airbags that can protect the waist of passengers, increasing their level of safety. Airbags for the driver's knees have also been introduced. By expanding the coverage area, curtain airbags support a wider range of occupant shapes and positions.

Subaru is actively working to create ecological cars. The result of the work of Japanese engineers was, perhaps, the most economical car Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid.

Euro NCAP
The new Subaru XV is an all-wheel drive compact crossover that replaces the Impreza XV and should take a place in the lineup ahead of the Forester. If the Forester, as it has historically developed, is preferred by the older generation, then the XV should equally conquer people of all ages and any gender.

Japanese high-tech approach, "island isolation" and a penchant for finding original solutions distinguish Subaru, which is part of Fuji Heavy Industries, among other AW manufacturers. Whole the lineup equipped boxer engines Boxer and Symmetrical AWD all-wheel drive system, which provides the cars with an excellent combination of handling and dynamics. Among Subaru models Impreza became especially popular, on the basis of which even an off-road version with the XV index was released, which, however, did not differ too much from the standard one. And in 2011, at the Shaikhan AW Tosalon, they presented a concept, and a little later in Frankfurt, a pre-production sample of the Subaru XV (2012 model year), which lost not only the Impreza mention in the title, but finally became a completely independent original car.

Externally, the Subaru XV looks more like a greatly reduced Outback, although the crossover is still based on the Impreza platform. The exterior of the novelty is made in accordance with the new concept of "Protren", which combines the technical excellence of "Professional" and the design approach of "Trendy". Naturally, the appearance of the Subaru XV 2012 model year is a logical continuation of the corporate style. The aggressive “Hawk-Eye” front part, formed by the branded hexagonal radiator grille with chrome-plated “spread wings” from the emblem in the center, and complex-shaped head optics, catches the eye. At the same time, Japanese specialists were able to combine the essence of sports (inclined windshield and sloping roof shape, turning into a rear spoiler) and off-road practicality (unpainted plastic body kit around the perimeter and short raised front and rear bumpers). However, despite such care and quite decent ground clearance (the XV has a clearance of 220 mm), the new Subaru XV is more suitable for moderate off-road than for a serious cross-country trip. However, any potential owner would be sorry to jeopardize the body kit and the original two-tone (contrast chrome spokes and black lacquer) 19-inch alloy wheels.

Unlike the exterior, the interior of the Subaru XV is almost identical to the Impreza hatchback. And if the crossover prototype was remembered for its panoramic roof glazing and snow-white leather upholstery in combination with luminous stitching, then the interior of the pre-production sample is quite banal. To be fair, it should be noted that a high level of technical equipment. In the middle of the dashboard there is a display that transmits information about the operation of components and assemblies, and on the center console there is a large diagonal color touch screen that combines the functions of a multimedia system, navigation and wireless cellular communications. It also displays the image of the parking sensors cameras.

In terms of technical Subaru specifications The XV is even more similar to the hatchback mentioned above. All the same rigidly tuned independent spring suspension. Front with MacPherson struts and rear with double wishbones. And the same disk brake mechanisms all four wheels, and ventilated in front. Naturally, in the presence of a proprietary system of permanent all-wheel drive Symmetrical AWD.
Dimensions Subaru XV: length 4.45 meters, width 1.78 meters and height 1.57 meters. Wheelbase The AW of the car is 2635 mm.

And here is a line of branded boxer power units Boxer has become more interesting - the 1.5-liter is gone gasoline unit and a 2.0-liter diesel appeared. Now the 1.6i engine has become the youngest, providing 114 hp. with., followed by a two-liter gasoline 150-horsepower engine, known from the Forester model. Each of these motors can be equipped with both a five-speed manual transmission and CVT variator Lineartronic. A two-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 147 "horses" is aggregated with a six-speed "mechanics".

Thanks to the start / stop system, the engines proved to be quite economical. The average fuel consumption of gasoline engines was 6.5 and 6.9 liters per hundred kilometers, depending on the working volume of the engine, and the fuel consumption of diesel unit and at all 5.6 liters per 100 km.

The price of Subaru XV in Russia in 2012 starts at 974 thousand 200 rubles (this is the cost of the “basic” configuration with a 1.6-liter engine and “mechanics”, from the equipment there are: ABS, ESP, climate control, mp3 audio system , heated front seats, power windows and electrically adjustable mirrors). The cost of a Subaru XV with a CVT starts at 1 million 8 thousand 300 rubles. "Top" equipment Subaru XV (with a 2-liter 150-horsepower engine and a CVT) is offered at a price of 1 million 321 thousand 700 rubles.
