Compact SUV Ford Kuga 2nd generation, released on Russian market in March 2013, built on a modified Ford Focus 3 platform. So, almost all the suspension elements of the crossover are “their own”, at the same time, the chassis configuration is familiar: MacPherson struts in front, multi-link in the back. Ford engineers endowed Kuga with a plug-in all-wheel drive system of their own design, which was called Active Torque Coupling. This scheme is based on the basic front wheel drive and connected with a multi-plate clutch rear axle. A maximum of up to 50% of the torque is sent back, and the exact dosage is determined by the control unit, which takes into account the readings of multiple sensors. A feature of this 4WD system, also used on the Ford Explorer, is that it engages the rear axle at the moment it deems it necessary, without waiting for slippage.
Engine range Russian Ford Kuga, assembled in Tatarstan, has undergone changes more than once during its presence on the market. Today, the crossover has the following gasoline engines:
