The difficulty in working on such machines is that the client, as a rule, is far from being the first owner. Accordingly, the car may contain such surprises that the owner does not know about. At the same time, he thinks that everything is great in the car, everything works perfectly. But when work on the car begins, certain "jambs" of previous installs may emerge. Usually it is electrical related. And here it is important to understand that it is easiest to make claims to the extreme installers, explaining all this with the mantra: "everything worked for me when I came to you." And you can approach the issue with understanding. With the understanding that you bought a "pig in a poke" and is now forced to correct all the shortcomings that the previous owner did not tell you about. So it was in our case, but the client was understanding and all issues were resolved normally.

Regular acoustics stands on the seat of the door trim and is removed with it when disassembling the door. At the same time, as you understand, the door does not have a closed volume, as in most cars. This creates two problems: you can forget about the high-quality midbass from the front doors, if they are not seriously finalized and do not make a closed volume inside. And the second - If you modify the doors, then after that they are unlikely to be collapsible.

This did not suit the client. And so we decided to go a little compromise. We decided to redo the regular places to install our new CDT Audio CL52 acoustics

In the car, in the trunk (rear) lay an active subwoofer. Sense from such an arrangement - zero. Because a meager "eight" simply does not "break through" the distance from the trunk to the passenger compartment, which is occupied by the folded roof. In convertibles, it is generally difficult to place a subwoofer. They thought they thought .. they figured out an active subwoofer and under the seat (does not climb), behind the seat - it also does not climb, because it interferes with the movement of the chair. And there is so little space in the car, and any restriction on the movement of the seats is critical.

the idea is that we take an active subwoofer as a donor. The advantage of this solution is that in such subwoofers there are noname speakers with a very small seating depth. They are very flat. Yes, this is not a powerful speaker. You can apply no more than 100 watts to it. But we are not looking for power. We have completely different tasks. We need mid-bass support with a subwoofer at low and medium volumes. And we need COMPACT.

In general, what is needed for a vigorous movement in the traffic stream. A nice bonus was the ability to put the Smart into a skid at the first opportunity - the stock roadster never had such habits. Interestingly, the Roadster is not a hard furious Roadster. I occasionally steal the second generation Smart ForTwo from my wife at night and I can envy assert that the suspension tuning has benefited the roadster.

A hard rumble even from a small hole, after which you immediately want to go to the service for diagnostics, was replaced by elastic slaps. But the roadster is also understated by 50 mm, but it manages not to strike anywhere. The amazing is nearby… And all this is in the atmosphere of silence of a car two classes higher. Full vibration isolation was not in vain, unlike the stock version, there is no need to yell at the passenger when the speed exceeded 60 km / h. History of selection and purchase

In 2013, Dmitry began to choose the first car for his girlfriend. It quickly became clear that nothing decent and all-wheel drive could be found for the initial budget of 700,000 rubles. Everything went to the fact that rates would have to be raised to 1,100,000 rubles, and the first car, most likely, would be the BMW X1. All cards were confused by a friend who offered to look at a Smart Roadster recently imported from Italy. The model was so hooked that the very next day, forgetting about the original purpose of the purchase, Dmitry began to look for a car for the soul. Beloved girl was asked to learn the basics of driving on his own BMW.

His search led him to a company that had specialized in selling and servicing used Smarts for many years. Good feedback on the Internet, a three-month warranty on the cars sold, service support - everything sounded convincing. Seeing a dream car in the price list - a black Smart Roadster manufactured in 2004 with a mileage of 78,000 km - Dmitry happily gave 320,000 rubles for it.

Repair

The car was sold with German numbers, so it was not possible to go to another service for diagnostics. But Dmitry had to get acquainted with other St. Petersburg masters of Smarts very soon. The first breakdown happened in a couple of days, and then - more. The roadster periodically stalled on the move, the air conditioning and heated seats did not work, the roof jammed. The list can be continued, but there are already quite a few... Diagnostics at two other stations (only in St. Petersburg there are only three services specializing in Smart) gave disappointing results. Maintenance on the car was not done for at least 20,000 km (with 2,000 km declared by the seller after maintenance), and the condition of a number of units clearly indicated twisted mileage. When parsing the cabin, it turned out that he was pretty wet. The roadster has many places where water gets into the cabin, so it requires regular drying. On this instance, this was not done, it seems, never.

What about the 3 month warranty? As usually happens in such cases, it ended immediately after the transfer of money to the seller. Only problems with air conditioning and heating were fixed free of charge. Only after a visit to the tow truck was the malfunction of the crankshaft position sensor finally recognized as a warranty case, which is why Smart stalled on the go. In total, more than 200,000 rubles, two months of time and an uncountable number of nerve cells were spent on bringing Smart to life. From main: overhaul engine (70,000 rubles), turbine replacement (35,000 rubles), new clutch (25,000 rubles) and actuator (15,000 rubles). Usually, these works are carried out at least with a run of 140,000 km. Dmitry had no thoughts of giving up everything - Smart seriously sunk into his soul.
