Perhaps someone will like this fabric, but I think this is not the most practical material for such a practical budget car. But not every Gentra classmate can boast of such driving comfort elements as headrests, armrests and other trifles.

Of course, the Uzbek assembly cannot be called ideal, but it is quite decent: there are no visible problems with fasteners, as well as obvious gaps between parts.
At the same time, there are some questions about the quality of materials, as well as certain overly budget designs. If the plastic looks even more or less acceptable, then it feels harsh and cheap to the touch. For example, the lever for controlling the rear-view mirrors is flimsy, the steering wheel is not at all pleasant to the touch, and the gearshift lever is made in the old fashioned way - to turn on reverse gear, it is necessary to pull up the ring. You will have to get used to this, although such a solution has a big plus - you definitely won’t miss the “back” one.

Ergonomics here is normal, everything is at hand and in sight. Numerous pockets and drawers can shove a bunch of small things, the steering wheel is adjustable in height and reach. And some ergonomic solutions of Daewoo Gentra were completely pleasing: for example, the trunk lid can be opened by pressing a large button located on the driver's door above the speaker.

In general, in this car, if you remember and understand its "class affiliation", there is little to find fault with. The instrument panel is simple, clear and quite informative, and the greenish backlight does not hurt the eyes. The stock audio system includes a radio and a CD/MP3 player with an AUX jack and six speakers that provide a fairly high-quality and pleasant sound.

The driver's seat is mechanically adjustable, there is an adjustable lumbar support. But the profile of the front seats is literally absent, so sitting is not very comfortable. The rear sofa is designed for three, but it is better to sit there together.

The trunk is small - only 405 liters, but under its floor is a full-size spare wheel, and the lid is endowed with felt upholstery and the groove itself is processed (and on many state employees there is just bare metal).

But the most interesting is the next question - what is the Daewoo Gentra on the go? The engine on the car is a 1.5-liter, issuing 107 Horse power and 141 Nm of torque.

It is combined with a "mechanics" for five gears or a modern 6-band "automatic". First, about the version with the MCP. The grip of such a "Gentra" is friendly, so even a beginner can start off the first time. When spinning the engine noticeably bass. Clarity of gear shifting is not ideal, but it is better than, for example, in Lada Granta. Even under load, the engine in tandem with the “mechanics” confidently accelerates the car, cheerfully and without effort. The dynamics are quite enough to feel confident in city traffic and on the highway, with reasonable overtaking.
One of the advantages of the engine is that with a 16-valve scheme, it pulls confidently from the very “bottom”, like an 8-valve. Therefore, high gears can be turned on early, and downshifts less often. The first gear is short, so when you start moving, you can almost immediately turn on the second one. However, it is worth noting that the gear ratios are chosen so that at a speed of 120 km / h the arrow on the tachometer reaches almost 4000 rpm, and there is a strong hum of the engine in the cabin. Road noise also joins it, and all because of the poor sound insulation of the wheel arches.

Not bad Daewoo Gentra rides with automatic transmission. Moreover, the dynamics of overclocking is practically no different. The box clearly snaps off the steps, while slightly relieving the gas, so the gear change is almost imperceptible. There is no "dullness", reactions to pressing the accelerator are fast. In addition, there is an honest manual mode, which works perfectly. Well, the sixth gear saves fuel. In the city, the "automatic" is much more convenient than the "mechanics", especially with its good work. Yes, and on the track there is no uncertainty, so overtaking can not be neglected.

The Uzbek sedan has a simple suspension design: McPherson struts at the front, a multi-link scheme at the rear. Therefore, there will be no problems with its maintenance for sure. The chassis of the Daewoo Gentra is forgiving. On fairly large pits and irregularities, the speed can not be slowed down, thanks to the excellent energy intensity of the suspension. But the sedan does not completely hide small and medium irregularities, which may make it seem a bit harsh. At the same time, the chassis deals with them elastically and quietly. On the track, the sedan behaves as expected docile and stable, rolls, of course, are present, but they are not very pronounced, and the car is quite tenacious on the arc. However, this continues until the asphalt is smooth under the wheels, and calm outside the window. It turned out that the "Gentra" reacts a little nervously to the air "shock waves" from the trucks and the side wind - significantly wagging and thus requiring adjustments to the steering wheel. Therefore, when leaving for an open area, for example, from a forest, you need to be alert. He does not like Gentra and asphalt ruts, especially if you get into them during rebuilding: the sedan starts to “walk” along the lane.
The steering wheel of the Daewoo Gentra is hydraulically boosted, which feels a little tight compared to its electric counterparts, although it does not disappoint with “emptiness”. However, Gentra does not claim to be a driver's car, this is not its purpose.
The brakes of the car are excellent and grippy, both in front and behind they are disc. The sedan slows down confidently.

On the whole, it can be said that Daewoo sedan Gentra is a worthy car for low cost. In many qualities, it outperforms Chevrolet Lacetti and budget models of more famous companies than UZ-Daewoo. Of course, the car has disadvantages, but they are not so significant, and more significant advantages make them almost invisible. We can say that the Gentra is the “Lacetti” tested over the years, which received a slightly different appearance, new equipment and a lower cost.

However, the case was limited to a spectacular facelift. From any other angle, the novelty is unmistakably recognizable as none other than the Lacetti. The one that 11 years ago was painted for the South Korean "Daewoo" by the craftsmen of the Italian "Pininfarina". Even then it did not look trendy, quite successfully combining the smooth lines characteristic of the 90s and the new sharp edges of the 21st century, and now it does not look outdated at all. And the car was given a sonorous name: from the Latin Lacertus - young, energetic, strong. In mid-2003, we wrote about this car: a replacement for the Nexia is ready, in August the novelty will be put on the conveyor of the UzDaewooAvto plant.

There are even fewer differences in the interior than in the exterior. We have written more than once about the well-decorated interior of the Lacetti - the dark soft plastic of the front panel, very decent seats upholstered in practical fabric (both the texture, their two-tone range, and the large cushion adjustment knobs remained the same), a comfortable armrest, simple, but completely understandable and quite efficient air conditioner.

Ten years ago, this salon was almost a record spacious. Now, as you understand, there are more spacious cars in the "golf" class. Nevertheless, "Gentra" is very hospitable to passengers - three of us can travel on the couch, the driver of 185 cm tall "by himself" sits down without problems. In the spacious trunk, the lid of which is still opened with a button on the driver's door, two large suitcases still fit - and there is still room. However, there are some minor changes as well. So, we used to praise the visibility of the Lacetti. And now the exterior mirrors have become even a little larger.

And in terms of driving, the Gentra is similar to the Lacetti in everything. The suspension, which is identical in design, swallows not only small, but also large road troubles remarkably - the front one is especially good in this regard. And, of course, increased comfort turns into significant rolls if you suddenly want to grab the Gentra along a winding path.

From the very beginning of our acquaintance, Daewoo pleasantly surprised me. Soundproofing almost tightly blocks the noise of the engine at idle - I even tried to start a running engine a couple of times! But just the engine of the new Uzbek car is completely different. If the "Lacetti" relied on as many as three - of different volume and power from 95 to 121 liters. s., then the “Gentre” from the entire “Chevrolet” variety got the only in-line 1.5-liter “four” with 105 forces.

By the way, this is the same motor that is installed on the Cobalt. True, with some changes - other ignition coil, the electronic unit management, catalytic converter. In addition, I had to put another clutch - after all, the 5-speed manual gearbox also went to the car from the Lacetti. By the way, it was also installed on the 16-valve Nexia. And on the Gentra, as in the Lacetti, it annoys with long lever strokes.

In principle, this engine "Gentre" is enough. Six hundred miles through Moscow traffic jams and suburban highways with two passengers and luggage did not reveal any big problems. True, it immediately became clear that the Gentra was intended exclusively for law-abiding drivers. Up to 60 km / h in the city, its dynamics are enough, and then the one and a half liter engine quickly turns sour. And on the highway, you can comfortably move at permitted speeds, and after 110 km / h it becomes noisy in the cabin, and overtaking on the move is given to the Daewoo with great tension.

I especially clearly felt the unhurried nature of the Gentra, having transferred from it to a 2-liter Duster - the all-wheel drive Renault seemed like a real hurricane to me!

Perhaps the only drawback of a capacious and neatly trimmed trunk is uncovered hinges that can wrinkle luggage. A full-fledged spare wheel is hidden under the floor - however, on a steel disk

Nevertheless, for all five days of acquaintance with the car, no matter how hard I tried, I could not find any serious flaws in it. And the plastic pseudo-tree on the front panel did not irritate, and the confused hatch control could not piss me off. And all because from the very beginning, even before I got behind the wheel, I studied the price list. So, the base Gentra is 28 thousand cheaper than the 1.4-liter Lacetti three years ago! And better equipped. And for half a million you will get a car in a top-end configuration, except perhaps without leather, and an “automatic” for Gentre Elegant is a little expensive - as much as 52 thousand. Nevertheless, such a car will remain unambiguously the best offer in the “golf” class.

Of course, if you dig deep into the equipment list, you can find the total absence of ESP, side and window airbags and leather interior. And yet, I think, neither one nor the other, much less the third one, can cross out the main advantage of Gentra: UzDaewoo offered us a lot of car for very little money.

As for the replacement of the Nexia ... It seems that it will remain on the assembly line for the time being - after all, the old woman is still more than a hundred thousand cheaper.

The basic package "Comfort" can be called a living wage. Such a Gentra has a decent power accessories, height adjustment of the driver's seat, a folding sofa, central locking, an immobilizer, isofix mounts. Moreover, in terms of equipment, the car for 399 thousand is richer than the base Lacetti for air conditioning, a second airbag, eyeglass case, a central armrest in front, fog lights, and mirrors and door handles are painted in body color. The Daewoo Lacetti debuted in the fall of 2002 at the Seoul Motor Show. Since then, the car has been sold under various names around the world. In Canada and Mexico, the car was called "Optra", in Europe - "Nubira", in India - SRV. Moreover, he changed his car and surnames: in China he was known as "Buick-Excel", in the USA - "Suzuki-Forenza", in Australia - "Holden-Viva".

The current name was chosen by marketers. After interviewing a certain number of our compatriots, they settled on the energetic Gentra. This name was approved by the majority of respondents.

After all, Daewoo Gentra, which has just debuted on our market, caused a big stir on Ukrainian roads. And we can already answer the main questions - what is it, how does it go and how much does it cost?

Under the name Daewoo Gentra, another round of life of the discontinued, but popular Chevrolet Lacetti began. In addition to the name and surname, he changed his place of birth. New sedans are assembled at the GM-Uzbekistan plant in Asaka. Why, then, our compatriots were interested in what kind of car it was? After all, the Daewoo emblem is well known to us.

The fact is that the Gentra looks fresh thanks to the installation of a somewhat modernized front fascia of the Lacetti hatchback - with a new grille and bumper with an expressive lower edge that plays the role of a splitter and fog lights. Looking for differences

True, the gear ratios are such that at a speed of 120 km / h on the tachometer there are already about 4000 rpm, and in the cabin there is a rather strong hum of the engine. Added to it is the noise from the road. The wheel arches would do well with additional insulation - it is too audible how sand and dirt flying from under the wheels are whipped against metal.

The trunk has not changed - the upholstery and the volume of 405 liters are the same as the Lacetti. Rear seats folding in a ratio of 40:60 are in the “base”.

The suspension has not changed compared to Chevrolet, it is structurally simple: in front - McPherson struts, in the back - on trailing arms. So, there will be no problems with service. But the tires are different - on Gentra, traditionally for UZ-Daewoo products are Continental tires Conti Premium Contact 2.

Justified expectations
The novelty is recognizable as a sedan that has proven itself over the years of operation. At the same time, Daewoo Gentra looks noticeably fresher and offers new options that increase the comfort and convenience of everyday use. The engine, although different, but its behavior is very similar to a 1.6-liter: the difference in “horses” is minimal, and the main advantage - confident traction at low and medium speeds - is preserved. And he promises to be just as unpretentious in operation. The operation of the gearbox and steering is also well known and does not present surprises.

Before looking into the cabin, I carefully examined the luggage compartment. Its new volume is 405 liters.
