Compare Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento

In our conditions, motorists, when choosing the next car, are wondering - a passenger car or an SUV, if the soul lies in what looks like a jeep and has similar cross-country ability, then it is better to give preference to an SUV, as a rule, it is either Hyundai or Kia in most cases . And then the question arises of Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento which is better to choose, since these are relatively inexpensive and reliable cars, each car has its pros and cons. We will talk about this below.

Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento which is better

If the car owner still chose a jeep, but a person drives mostly around the city and only occasionally moves along dirt roads and rural dirt, in such a situation a logical question will also arise, do I need a full-fledged all-wheel drive jeep, because this is undoubtedly will affect fuel consumption. And here, as a salvation or some kind of hybrids between a full-fledged SUV and car acts as a crossover or SUV.

What is the difference between a crossover and a jeep and a passenger car

In order to understand these tricky word formations, let's give an exact definition to each type of car in order to correctly understand what we are talking about and what we are talking about in general.

A crossover is a car built on the basis of a passenger platform with load-bearing body, but at the same time having an external body type similar to an SUV or jeep, it also has a high seating position for passengers and an increased ground clearance, almost always only front-wheel drive. In another way, the crossover is also called CUV - Crossover utility vehicle

A SUV car with almost all the features of a jeep, increased ground clearance and a high seating position for passengers and the driver, as a rule, has a plug-in all-wheel drive, but it is somewhat truncated, it does not low gears as on a full-fledged jeep and often such a drive is automatically turned off when a speed of 40 km / h is reached, it also cannot be turned off separately front-wheel drive and connect the rear, you can only additionally connect the rear to the front. A striking example of SUV Hyundai Santa Fe 2008 with plug-in all-wheel drive. Also, parking lots have another name. SUV-Sport Utility Vehicle.

A jeep is a car with a high seating position and plug-in independent axles - you can drive as a separate rear wheel drive, and on the front, you can use both at once, plus all this, full-fledged jeeps have low and high gears. The Jeep is a complete SUV.

In terms of fuel consumption, a crossover and a SUV are approximately equal, but a jeep consumes an order of magnitude more fuel, due to the presence of full-fledged bridges and often a more powerful engine.

Appearance

In general, of course, to compare the appearance of the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento this matter is rather subjective than practical, since everyone has their own taste here and someone may like the exterior of the Kia, and someone may like the exterior of the Hyundai more.

To date appearance hyundai santa fe excels in beauty and kia design sorento. But this was not always the case. The first models of Santa were similar to the Abra Cadabra, but the Kia Sorento at that time was more attractive. But now the trend has reversed.

Salon

What can I say about the Hyundai Santa Fe salon, if summarized and expressed in one general word that conveys the whole impression, then this word will sound like a pleasant, calm, inviting driver. Plus, right there you immediately have a huge number of different buttons responsible for various modes and adjustments of the car. Initially, the abundance of these buttons can even scare you, but after driving a Hyundai Santa Fe for a month, you understand that all the buttons are simply necessary, they are convenient, they are immediately available fast access without the need to enter any menu on on-board computer and choose the desired mode there, everything is available immediately with a simple click.

  • The plastic in the Hyundai Santa Fe is pleasant to the touch, even somewhat reminiscent of softness, leather inserts also blend well with the interior and emphasize the beauty and richness of the interior of the car.
  • The air flow is also excellent. rear passengers it is organized both from below and from the B-pillar.
  • The seats are equipped with comfortable lateral support, which will be very valuable for your back if you often travel long distances or spend your time driving this car for a long time.
  • Santa Fe also has a large, spacious and comfortable rear trunk that can accommodate a lot of different cargo. And by folding the rear seats, you will increase the size of the trunk at times.

And below is the rear trunk of the Kia Sorento

The interior of the Kia Sorento is also not inferior to the Santa Fe, the interior of the Sorento is just as pleasant, the seats have lateral support. The steering wheel in the Kia Sorento is adjustable both in reach and in height. Kia Sorento is also supplied with heated seats, even for the third row of passengers. You can also add a heated steering wheel option to the Sorento, which in harsh winter climates will be appreciated by drivers, there will be no need to experience the pain of an icy “steering wheel” until it is heated by your hands.

In terms of interior, both cars turned out to be worthy, although I personally prefer the design of the Hyundai Santa Fe interior, by the way, in the Kia Sorento, the interior plastic is an order of magnitude oakier than in the Santafe. That for some buyers can be a decisive factor. Especially in winter, hard plastic tends to tan even more, which can cause so-called "crickets in the cabin" that can be wildly annoying while driving or listening to calm music during a measured trip.

The instrument panels on both cars look great and are quite informative.

Engine

If we compare the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento in terms of engine parameters, then in general they are both reliable, there are a lot of engine options for both gasoline and diesel on both cars. Here are some similar motors:

  1. Hyundai Santa Fe - 2.2 turbo diesel 197 horses, at a flow rate of up to 6 liters per hundred
  2. Kia Sorento - 2.2 also turbo diesel for 197 horses consumption up to 7 liters

In general, there are a lot of engine variations, some are available in our regions, some are not.

In terms of gearboxes, both the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento are available with both a manual six-speed gearbox and an automatic transmission.

It is worth noting that in different years of production and depending on the models, both brands of cars, like Hyundai Santafe and Kia Sorento, have different engine models, both 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder. Here, as they say, it all depends on your needs for power and the size of your wallet. The old Hyundai Santafe produced in 2008 with 6 pistons and a 2.7-liter gasoline engine has proven itself to be excellent and to this day maintains a reputation as a very reliable car, as evidenced by the numerous reviews of the owners of this Santa model, which will not be difficult to find on the Internet.

Road

On the pavement, both SUVs behave confidently and very steadily, the suspensions are very energy-intensive here and there, it is not always possible to break through it to the bump stop even with a good pit. If we compare specifications and driving performance Sorento and Santa Fe, and taking into account the fact that the configurations will be approximately equal, we can say that Sorento rides a little smoother on asphalt and this difference is even more noticeable off-road.

Both cars will drive you through rural mud without any problems with the rear-wheel drive connected, the main thing is that you have good tires and not bald ones. Since they often test a car on tires that resemble formula one in terms of tread, and then they say that something does not pass and slips. If you have at least 30% wear left, then without any problems you will pass through the village on both the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Kia Sorento without any problems.

Of course, you shouldn’t meddle with testing these cars on a plowed field with black soil in rainy weather, maybe they will take you out of this mud, but as they say, you shouldn’t tempt fate, yet these cars are designed for ordinary moderate off-road and dirt, and not for total potholes and continuous driving through plowed and muddy black soil fields.

Therefore, if there is no desire to follow a tractor in rainy weather, then it’s better not to go to the field on these cars, yet these are not full-fledged all-wheel drive jeeps with low and high gears, but ordinary reliable city SUVs with a small application for cross-country ability which they provide one hundred percent.

If we compare Santa Fe and Sorento in length, then there is a slight difference between Hyundai Santa Fe 470cm and Kia Sorento 480cm for 2015 models. So here we see a difference in the length of these cars by about 10 cm in favor of the Kia Sorento, slightly rounded the values. In general, in the history of the production of these cars, either the Hyundai Santa Fe or the Kia Sorento are periodically longer.

What else to add, we can only state that lately Hyundai Santa Fe has been updating its the lineup than the Kia Sorento and strange as it may seem, this SUV is getting prettier and prettier, my personal subjective opinion.

Our post titled which is better Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento has come to an end, we will add a few more videos good test drives of these cars in order to see firsthand what we wrote about in this article. After all, no matter how you describe it, it will still not be completely clear until you see it with your own eyes, so we watch the video and compare the Santa Fe and Sorento visually, and also do not forget to leave your feedback about these cars if you had a chance to ride them or even you are the owner one of them, or maybe you are an avid santavod or an avid sorentovod and you had all the models of these cars, it will be very interesting to read such a review from a person who really knows and tested all these cars.

In 2018, 7,484 SUV Kia Sorento, which is 40% more than in 2017. But his competitor worsened his statistics. Last year, 8,577 new Hyundai Santa Fe were purchased, and the year before last - 9,886, that is, sales decreased by 13%. But even with this mixed performance, the Santa Fe was 1,093 cars ahead of its rival in 2018. Will he be able to maintain leadership in this pair at the end of the current year? Let's compare these two models and try to understand what fate awaits them in the near future.

Prices and equipment

Kia Sorento 2019 model year offered to customers in four versions: "Classic", "Comfort", "Luxe" and "Prestige", and Hyundai Santa Fe 2019 - in five: "Family", "Lifestyle", "Premier", "High-Tech" and Black&Brown. The most affordable Sorento in the base "Classic" equipped with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine(175 hp), 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive will cost you 1,789,900 rubles, and Santa Fe "Family" 2.4 (188 hp) 6AT 4WD - 2,099,000 rubles. , that is, 309,100 rubles more expensive. Both SUVs for this price are well equipped, they already have: heated front seats and power side mirrors, a system exchange rate stability ESC, front/side and curtain airbags, cruise control, dual-zone climate control and a six-speaker audio system. At the same time, Kia, unlike its competitor, is equipped with an electric folding side mirrors, and Hyundai is equipped with a heated steering wheel. However, against the background of such a significant difference in price, only the presence of all-wheel drive and a more powerful engine can speak in favor of Santa Fe.

The above comparison is not entirely correct, because the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is equipped with all-wheel drive, but the rival is not. So let's fix this. But first, let's clarify that the all-wheel drive Kia Sorento 2019 can be equipped with a 6-speed "mechanics" or "automatic". Sorento with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine (175 hp) and all-wheel drive in the Classic package costs 1,839,900 rubles with a 6-speed manual and 1,889,900 rubles with a 6-speed automatic transmission. That is, all the same, Kia turns out to be cheaper than its competitor by 259,100 rubles. or 209 100 rubles. respectively. It is worth noting that Hyundai, unlike its counterpart, offers several additional option packages (which we will talk about a little later), but all of them are available in all trim levels except “Family”. Therefore, if we talk about the basic versions of Korean SUVs, then here the total advantage is on the side of the Sorento due to the best price and variety of modifications.

If we figured out the initial configurations, now let's take a closer look at the rest. All remaining versions are equipped exclusively automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. In the list of installed equipment of the following comparable trim levels "Luxe" and "Lifestyle" appear: heated rear seats, leather trim, rear view camera, rain sensor, keyless entry to the interior and engine start button. The cost of Kia Sorento 2.4 (175 hp) 6AT 4WD "Luxe" is 2,024,900 rubles, and Hyundai Santa Fe 2.4 (188 hp) 6AT 4WD "Lifestyle" - 2,259,000 rubles, t .e. for 234 100 rubles. expensive. It is worth saying that we deliberately skipped the 1,944,900 rubles version of the Sorento “Comfort”, because its list of options is shorter. But back to the Santa Fe, which, unlike its competitor for the money, is equipped with a 9-inch touch screen with the ability to integrate with smartphones Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In general, starting with "Lifestyle", Hyundai begins to demonstrate technological superiority over its rival due to the appearance additional package"Smart Sense" for 90,000 rubles. It includes such systems as: automatic braking in front of an obstacle, monitoring the state of the driver, keeping the car in the lane, etc. The systems in this package are included in standard equipment complete sets "High-Tech" and "Black&Brown". In general, the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe continues to be significantly inferior in price, but it offers functionality that is not available in the 2019 Kia Sorento.

I think it's time to compare top versions models, skipping a couple of intermediate ones. The most expensive SUVs are equipped diesel engines, combined with an automatic transmission of six steps for Sorento and eight for Santa Fe. Thus, Kia Sorento 2.2 CRDi (197 hp) 6AT 4WD "Prestige" will cost customers 2,309,900 rubles, and Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 CRDi (200 hp) 8AT "Black & Brown" - in 2,949,000 rubles, i.e. for 639 100 rubles. expensive! But this price difference shouldn't surprise you. The further we get from the base trim levels, the greater the technological gap between the models becomes. The main functional advantages of the Black&Brown version include the projection of instrument readings on windshield, a panoramic sunroof, an 8-inch display with navigation and, of course, a 7-seater saloon. By the way, the third row of seats is already available as additional option with a complete set of "Premier" for 50,000 rubles. And so that the difference of more than half a million rubles still does not shock you, let's say that in terms of equipment (front seat ventilation, power driver's seat, automatic parking system) Santa Fe 2.2 CRDi (200 hp) 8AT "Premier" for 2,599,000 rubles it is in no way inferior to a competitor and has an advantage, for example, in the form of an electric tailgate with an automatic opening system.

Specifications

The length / width / height of the Kia Sorento 2019 is 4685/1885/1710 mm, and the dimensions of the Hyundai Santa Fe 2019 are 4770/1890/1680 mm. Wheelbase Santa Fe, of course, has more - 2765 versus 2700 mm for a competitor. Ground clearance is the same - 185 mm. And here fuel tank Sorento has less - 64 against 71 liters. Volume luggage compartment Hyundai with rear row seats folded / unfolded is equal to 2019/1036 liters for the 5-seater version and 2002/1016/328 liters for the 7-seater. For some reason, the size of the opponent's trunk is not indicated either on the official Kia website or in the brochure for the model. But given the dimensions of the SUV, it is obviously smaller than that of a competitor.

Both models offer the buyer a choice of only two engines: petrol and diesel. 2.4-liter gasoline engines in Kia Sorento 2019 and Hyundai Santa Fe 2019 with a capacity of 175 hp. and 188 hp, as well as with a torque of 225 Nm and 241 Nm, respectively. And 2.2-liter diesels have the following characteristics of Sorento vs. Santa Fe: 197 hp vs 200 hp and 436 Nm vs 440 Nm. In general, Hyundai's performance is always slightly better than that of its counterpart. As for transmissions, both SUVs again have only two versions. But Kia offers 6-speed manual or automatic box gears, and Hyundai - a six- or eight-speed "automatic".

And now let's look at dynamic characteristics and the fuel efficiency of these two rivals. To do this, we compare comparable modifications of SUVs. Acceleration time from 0 to 100 km / h (consumption in city / highway / mixed modes) for Kia Sorento vs Hyundai Santa Fe is: 2.4 (175 hp) 6AT 4WD vs 2.4 (188 hp) ) 6AT 4WD - 11.5 s (12.3 / 6.9 / 8.8 l) vs 10.4 s (12.6 / 7.3 / 9.3 l); 2.2 CRDi (197 HP) 6AT 4WD vs 2.2 CRDi (200 HP) 8AT 4WD - 9.9 (8.8 / 5.4 / 6.7 L) with vs 9.4 with (9.9 / 6.2 / 7.5), respectively. There was no sensation here. More powerful Hyundai engines demonstrate better dynamics and higher fuel consumption. That's why Kia has a smaller fuel tank.

Summary

Kia Sorento 2019 and Hyundai Santa Fe 2019, despite close dimensions, completely different SUVs in their essence. Sorento offers a wide range of modifications with different combinations of engines, transmissions and drive. At the same time, the price of the model in comparison looks very attractive, which cannot be said about its competitor. But Santa Fe, in turn, provides its customers with the opportunity to equip the car with the most advanced technical systems, more powerful engines, as well as purchase a functional 7-seater version of the model. It is difficult to imagine what demand these SUVs will have in 2019, but in the first quarter of this year, 3,598 Santa Fe were sold and almost 2 times less than Sorento - 1,611 cars. However, it is worth saying that the closest competitor to Santa Fe is still Kia Sorento Prime with the possibility of 7-seater accommodation and cost from 2,004,900 to 2,531,900 rubles. But it's already!

A few years ago, the savory hit Gangnam Style by the Korean showman PSY blew up the musical sky, and the video set a record - the first in the world to score a billion views on YouTube.

Korean automakers are also not far behind - they have turned from gray mice into manufacturers of bright and modern machines. The new Santa Fe is like a spaceship! Over the years, prices have also rushed into space, and now they are asking for two million rubles for such crossovers, and the test Santa Fe is worth two seven hundred! For Sorento Prime you need to pay the same money, Koleos is only three hundred thousand cheaper.

By the way, in the previous one (ZR, No. 8, 2017). But those were petrol versions, and now we fill the tanks of all cars to capacity with diesel fuel. Dieselgate? No, you haven't heard!

He made his debut in 2016, but reached Russia only a year later. We sell native Korean cars - deliveries come from the Renault-Samsung plant.

International

Everyone associates the Samsung brand with smartphones and TVs - but not with cars! Meanwhile, since the late 1990s, Samsung has also been making cars. At first, these were slightly modified Nissans, then Samsung's automotive division was bought by Renault. Now the Koreans are busy not only with the release, but also with the development of new models. Koleos of the second generation comes from there - the Korean assembly (at home, the car is sold under the name Samsung QM6). So we formed a Korean cabal. In fact, it's even more difficult. The Franco-Korean crossover is based on the CMF-D platform from Nissan X‑Trail: Japanese firm belongs to the same industrial group with Renault. International!

It is attractive, and its interior is able to charm with chic white leather, a huge - almost like in Tesla - vertically oriented "tablet" of the multimedia system and stylish (now in the spirit of Cayenne) struts between the center console and the floor tunnel.

But before you sign a purchase agreement, we note the shortcomings. The multimedia menu is annoying with confusing logic, and the responses are not to say that they are instant. The seats are less comfortable than those of the “thoroughbred Koreans”: the pillow is a bit short, and some kind of rigid cross member interferes in the back. Visibility also let us down - the front pillars are too wide, and the all-round visibility system cannot be obtained even for a surcharge, unlike Kia and Hyundai.

The equipment of even stuffed to the eyeballs Koleos falls short of the level of competitors. No projection display panoramic roof, adaptive cruise control and even niches for glasses. The steering wheel heating threads are laid only in the grip areas. It turns out that the higher prices of rivals are justified.

The turbodiesel rumbles as if you are sitting in the cab of a Belarus tractor, and not a modern crossover. In terms of power and torque, the reno motor is inferior to its rivals (177 hp and 380 Nm versus 200 hp and 440 Nm), but this does not cause any problems. The Koleos is commendably buoyant in and out of town, responding quickly to the accelerator. And - only 9 l / 100 km with assertive driving.

Manageability can hardly be attributed to the trump cards. The effort on the steering wheel is synthetic, in turns it is clearly lacking feedback, besides, micro-impacts from irregularities “arrive” on the steering wheel.

On crooked patches and joints, Renault arranges unpleasant percussion, loudly tapping the suspension - opponents do not allow themselves this. On the pits, Koleos prancing so that I remind myself of the jumping PSY from that clip.

In this article I want to compare two medium-sized Korean crossover to find out which is better: Santa Fe or Sorento. Comparison is a little tricky due to the fact that both cars are built on the same platform and belong to the same company. But still, I'll try. We will discuss the appearance, interior design and useful options.

Hyundai Santa Fe is already on sale in the fourth generation, but Kia Sorento Prime is still in the third, albeit restyling. Hence the difference in "goodies": the first one is more modern and, therefore, equipped with the latest options, and the second, although trying to catch up with it, is devoid of some interesting "chips". Although, in principle, the car from Kia looks quite worthy against the background of the model from Hyundai ahead of it.

Look at the generation chart:

Santa Fe began to be produced in 2000, 2 years earlier than Sorento. This was the beginning of their discrepancies in generations. While the first was completely updated in 2005, the second was still on the market in the first version.

The first generation of Sorento saw the light in 2002, in 2006 it underwent restyling and was produced until 2009. The second-generation Santa Fe was already preparing for a 2010 facelift at this time.

While Kia updated the second-generation model in 2012, Hyundai launched the third version of its crossover into production.

The third generation of Santa Fe survived the restyling in 2015 and was then produced until 2018; now it has been replaced by a model fourth generation. And Sorento Prime since 2014 is still produced in the third generation, which in 2017 underwent a slight facelift, plus received a few new options.

Due to the fact that there are a lot of requests for comparison of almost all generations of these crossovers, I decided to briefly highlight each of them by comparing their appearance, equipment and technical characteristics.

Body

Let's compare the appearance of the models and useful options for the body.

Appearance

The company has done a great job on the exterior design of both cars. Now, almost every model of the automaker, be it Kia or Hyundai, has a modern appearance, which cannot be said about the cars of the early 2000s.

If earlier it was clearly felt that in front of you was a product of the Korean auto industry (and this was repulsive), now, looking at the models coming off the assembly line of Kia and Hyundai, you somehow don’t think about this trifle. And all why? But because their management made the right decision to swell the N-th amount of money into the development of the design. As they say, take a risk and win.

Take a look at the 2017 Grand Santa Fe for example:

To the interesting appearance and rather solid design of the pre-styling versions, after the restyling, some extravagance was also added.

The appearance of the Santa Fe 2018 model year, completely updated, is generally aiming for the title of the most futuristic among mid-range crossovers:

Unusual appearance, a sufficient amount of chrome (only not in the basic version) to emphasize the elegance of the body, a radiator grille with an interesting, stylish charismatic pattern, LED daytime running lights with a cheeky squint, headlamps in a vertical form factor (LED available from the second configuration) and stylish rear LEDs (in maximum configuration) lights - all this creates a feeling, if not of superiority over other road users, then the feeling that your car is at the forefront of modern automotive design - that's for sure. Well, if such an exterior seems too extravagant to you, then I think you should choose the previous generation Hyundai Grand Santa Fe.

Kia Sorento Prime 2017 clearly loses to its fellow futuristic:

It still has the same representative appearance and harmonious design, slightly ennobled after restyling due to the use of chrome in larger quantities than before, as well as a new grille pattern (by the way, quite pleasant). Of the interesting, one can also note branded four-point foglights. But this applies to all modern models of this brand. The headlights are made in the traditional form factor, without excessive pretentiousness.

Rear LED lights in the Kia Sorento Prime are also present. But unlike a competitor, they are not available in the maximum, but already starting from the third (out of five) trim levels. The same applies to the front LED optics. By the way, the adaptive lighting system is currently only available at maximum speed, while the Hyundai Santa Fe lacks auto-corrector headlights only in the basic version (for comparison: the second did not have such a function at all before, and the first one had it after restyling the second generation ).

Options

A light sensor that allows the headlights to turn on automatically is present in the “base” of both cars. However, this was not always the case. So, the Santa Fe 3 and the pre-styling Sorento 3 did not have a light sensor in the basic configuration. At Sorento 2, it came from the second configuration, and for Santa Fe 2 it was only available as an option.

Fog lights in the latest versions are present in both already in the basic configuration. By the way, for Hyundai, this seems to be the norm - it has always been like this. But Kia in the "base" they appeared, starting with the restyling of the second generation.

Interesting "chips" that have recently begun to be used everywhere on new models: the first is a system that is responsible for automatic switching headlights from high beam to low beam and vice versa, and the second is an automatic body leveling system. On Santa Fe 2018 they are, but on Sorento 2018, of course, no - after all, it is still of the previous generation, albeit updated.

But since 2012, the Kia Sorento has had an electric folding exterior mirrors in the basic version, while the Hyundai Santa Fe until 2013 had it only as an option, and then - starting from the second configuration. The electric drive and heated mirrors in the “base” are always in both.

Electric heating of the wiper zone in the minimum configuration for Sorento since 2011, and for Santa Fe - 2014.

An interesting fact: the rain sensor is currently not in the basic configuration for both crossovers, Santa Fe 2016 could boast of it in the “base” (before that, it didn’t have such an option at all), the third Sorento before restyling had a rain sensor from the second configuration, the second pre-styling - from the third, post-styling - in the two richest equipment.

There is no headlight washer in both cars only in the “minimal wage”, starting from the third generation. In the second generation, Hyundai had it available as an option, and Kia had it in the two richest versions.

Interior

Design

Sitting in the new Santa Fe and Sorento, you find yourself in the realm of sufficient respectability and functionality.

Santa Fe 2018:

Sorento Prime 2017:

Both of them have an interesting interior design. The architecture of the consoles is symmetrical, which evokes a sense of harmony and completeness.

In principle, the interior was nice and Santa Fe 2016:

The tidy is made in a sporty style. This is evidenced by instrument wells with a chrome frame. The backlight is two-tone, but unobtrusive, pleasant.

The dashboard of the Sorento 2016 is made in a more calm, traditional form for this class of car. Instrument lighting is plain white.

Undoubtedly, interiors have evolved a lot. Compare with first generation car interiors.

Hyundai Santa Fe 1:

Kia Sorento 1:

Comfort

The “stuffing” of new cars also becomes “tastier” every year. For example, the following “comfort” options are available for the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe:

  1. The central 8-inch display is located at eye level (which is very ergonomic) and has physical buttons and knobs, which I think are more preferable. Such a display is not available for the base configuration, in the “base” you will only be given a monochrome 5-inch screen located in the console itself. By the way, the standard navigation system is added to the maximum configuration.
  2. In the richest version, the dashboard will include a 7-inch monitor, which will beautifully display not only the values of various indicators, but also play the role of a speedometer. In other trim levels, the “tidy” will have a standard 3.5-inch display.
  3. The gearshift knob will be covered with leather already in the minimum equipment.
  4. Self-dimming rear-view mirror - also in the "base".
  5. The cooled glove compartment is not available only in the basic version.
  6. Keyless entry with start/stop button is available from the second bundle.
  7. Illumination of the near-door space is available in richer equipment.
  8. Bluetooth, wireless charging for phones in the front and two USBs for second-row passengers are already available in the basic version.
  9. All cars are equipped with dual-zone climate control with anti-fogging system, air deflectors for the second row of seats, heated steering wheel and front seats. Heated rear seats and ventilated front seats are only available at maximum speed.
  10. Longitudinal adjustment of the seats and backrest angles of the second row, electrically adjustable lumbar support in the driver's seat are already available in the basic version. Electric adjustment of the driver's seat in 10 directions is present only in the richest configuration.

Kia Sorento 2017 has similar options, but with some differences:

  1. The situation with 8-inch and 5-inch displays is completely the same. Navigation is available from the third configuration out of five possible - i.e. here this function is more democratic.
  2. 7 inch monitor dashboard is everywhere except the cheapest version.
  3. The leather gear knob, unlike its fellow, is not available in the “base”.
  4. The self-dimming interior mirror is also not available in the cheap version.
  5. There is no refrigerated glove box at all.
  6. Keyless entry and start / stop button - from the third configuration.
  7. Illumination of the threshold - from the second, and illumination of the legs - from the third.
  8. Bluetooth and two USB ports for the second row are present immediately, but wireless charging appears only in the pre-maximum version.
  9. Dual-zone climate control with deflectors for the second row and a heated steering wheel, for some reason, are not present in the “base”. But there are heated front seats. Rear seat heating is available starting from the second level, and ventilation of the front seats is available only in the richest configuration.
  10. Longitudinal adjustment of the seats and backrest angles of the second row is also available in the basic version, the driver's seat is electrically adjustable from the second level, and the electrically adjustable lumbar support in the driver's seat is not provided at all.

The third-generation Santa Fe salon pleases with the following "buns":

  1. The steering wheel and gear knob are trimmed in leather.
  2. The front row of seats has developed lateral support.
  3. The armrests in the doors are made of soft material, the elbow is comfortable.
  4. The second row of seats has an almost flat floor.
  5. Heated front seats are already in the "base", then - heated steering wheel and rear seats.
  6. Power seats and ventilation of the front seats - only in the "maximum speed".
  7. Refrigerated glovebox.
  8. Keyless entry system with start / stop button - only in the maximum configuration.
  9. standard navigation system, hi-fi audio system, bluetooth - only in the richest version.

The pre-styling Sorento 2015 has some differences in trim levels:

  1. The steering wheel and gearshift knob are also covered in leather already in the basic version.
  2. The lateral support of the front seats is not as pronounced as that of a competitor.
  3. The armrests in the doors are also soft.
  4. Also almost a flat floor at the seats of the second row.
  5. Heated front seats as standard, heated steering wheel and rear seats - in more expensive versions.
  6. Unlike a colleague, electric seat adjustment is available from the third configuration, and ventilation of the front seats and front seat memory (which the opponent does not have at all) are available from the pre-maximum version.
  7. There is no refrigerated glove compartment.
  8. The keyless entry system with start/stop button is available from the third trim level.
  9. There is no Bluetooth and regular navigation only in the "base".

Used Hyundai Santa Fe 2008-2010 boast the following options:

  1. Heated front seats, no heated rear seats at all.
  2. Power seats are available from the pre-maximum configuration.
  3. Front seat ventilation is not available.
  4. Luke - with premaximum.
  5. Heated steering wheel is only optional.
  6. Keyless entry, start / stop button - also only optional.

The second generation Kia Sorento has a slightly different situation:

  1. Heated front seats before restyling in the "base" was not available, but after - it appeared. Heated rear seats were also absent before restyling, and after that it is available from the second configuration.
  2. Power seats before restyling - also in the "pre-maximum speed", after - in the richest version.
  3. Ventilation of the front seats appeared after restyling, available for the maximum configuration.
  4. The hatch was available only before the restyling - in the "pre-maximum speed".
  5. Steering wheel heating appeared after restyling - but not in the basic version.
  6. Keyless entry, the start / stop button was available before restyling from the third configuration, and after - from the second.

Security

For the safety of life and health in new Santa Fe meet driver airbags, passenger airbags, side airbags and window blinds. And this is already in the basic configuration. Further, depending on the “tricked out” configuration, blind spot monitoring systems, lane control, frontal collision prevention, warning and collision avoidance when leaving the parking lot become available. in reverse, driver fatigue sensor, automatic locking rear doors in the event of a vehicle approaching from behind.

The 3rd generation Santa Fe also boasted all airbags and a blind spot monitoring system already in the “base”, plus an airbag for the driver’s knees appeared in the maximum version. But in the second generation of Hyundai, window protective curtains became available only after restyling.

The updated Sorento Prime also has all the airbags and a warning and collision avoidance system when reversing from a parking lot in the minimum configuration. Plus, unlike a competitor, a system for locking the rear doors is immediately provided here. The blind spot monitoring system appears only in the maximum configuration, and there is no system for monitoring driver fatigue and keeping in the lane at all.

In the pre-styling 3rd generation Kia Sorento, the blind spot monitoring system was already available in the pre-maximum version, and the airbag for the driver's knees, unlike the opponent, is not available. But in the second generation, window cushions were installed even on the cheapest equipment.

assistants

For the 4th generation Hyundai Santa Fe, depending on the configuration, such systems and driver assistance devices are available as:

  • all-wheel drive control system HTRAC with intelligent redistribution of torque along the axes,
  • hill start assist system
  • adaptive cruise control, which maintains a distance from the vehicle moving in front, independently stops the car in a traffic jam and continues to move if the stop lasts no more than 3 seconds,
  • projection of readings of the main instruments on the windshield,
  • rear/front parking sensors
  • surround view system
  • automatic parking system
  • Rear View Camera.

In third Generation Santa Fe, also depending on the equipment, was equipped with cruise control, parking assistance and a rear-view camera. There was no help system when starting uphill. Santa Fe 2 generations also did not have an uphill start assist system. There were also no such "goodies" as front parking assistance and automatic parking, a rear view camera. There were only cruise control and optional rear parking assistance.

The Kia Sorento has a hill start assist system after the second generation restyling, in 2012. After that, it was always available already in the basic version of the crossover. It seems that unlike Hyundai, Kia has always given its customers more assistants. So, the second generation, depending on the configuration, can boast (in addition to what the competitor had) another rear / front parking assistance system, an automatic parking system and a rear view camera. In the third generation, the Sorento retained cruise control, an uphill start assist system, reverse / front parking assistance systems, and a rear-view camera. After restyling in 2017, automatic parking and all-round visibility systems were added.

Summarizing

I understand that too much has been said. Maybe a little boring and difficult. But I honestly tried to figure out all the similarities and differences between the models of the last three generations myself.

Comparison of these cars I consider fulfilled, though not completely. It would be possible to compare the technical characteristics, but since the main part of the motors were the same for both cars, I think that this is not very necessary.

I look at the differences and understand that the questions “what to choose?” and “what to buy?” remain. Personally, I like both crossovers both in appearance and in the cabin. And those options that dealers call useful, I do not need for the most part. So decide for yourself what you like best. I hope I didn't waste my time and yours.
