At present, the indicated qualities of the Lada Granta car are in a cohort of especially valuable and advantageous aspects for the owner in comparison with the not quite elegant exterior. This inclines many customers to choose a sedan, many believe that a sedan is better. They even sacrifice the more beautiful design of the Lada Granta liftback in order to get a significant low price per vehicle and its availability in terms of maintenance activities.

The importance of the liftback body

The release of the Lada Granta liftback modification became the primary project for AvtoVAZ in terms of applying foreign experience in the production of several body options.

But did the manufacturer really limit itself to body transformations, or did the modernization affect the interior and driving performance? To understand which is better, the versions must be compared, and probably, then, the question of what to choose will disappear by itself.

Design transformations and liftback ancillary options

The new look of LADA Granta Liftback gives it undeniable brightness, but the sedan looks a little dull and boring against its background. For many, this is already an indicator of what to choose.

  • A distinctive feature in comparison with the sedan is the color of the bumpers in the body color.
  • Minor changes were made to the front bumper, where there were notches of a modified shape. This contributed to giving the exterior a certain modernity. Otherwise, the appearance of the front is identical to the sedan. Built-in niches for fog optics, which have an original design, added a little charm.
  • The contours of the exterior mirrors have acquired their own style and originality, which in turn adds to the aerodynamic trend. Also, turn signal repeaters are integrated into their cases.
  • The transfer of the license plate to the lower edge of the rear door allowed the developers to place a fog lamp in the niche vacated on the bumper.

The manufacturer plans to equip the sedan with the options present in the liftback in the near future. The restyling process for LADA Granta is expected to be carried out this year. Today, a liftback has a number of undeniable advantages over a sedan regarding the exterior and running parameters, but still, everyone chooses for himself which is better. When choosing a suitable modification, you should first study the full list of features. It is also not recommended to neglect your own priorities and preferences. Consider the difference between the modifications, not only in terms of performance and equipment, but also in a financial way. New cars acquired the name hatchback ( English hatch = hatch) thanks to an innovative design with a rear door through which the luggage compartment was accessed. Today, cars of this type are produced both in 5-door and 3-door configurations, and are popular among Russian motorists.

Separately, it should be noted that such models are significantly better than a sedan suitable for novice drivers, because it is easier to get used to the dimensions on them. If you choose your first car, then this is your choice.

Unfortunately, hatchbacks have some drawbacks that owners need to take into account - in an accident, the contents of the trunk can “fly” into the passenger compartment and injure passengers sitting in the rear seats. Liftback (literal translation from English - “rising ass”) is a passenger car that resembles a sedan in shape and is a cross between a hatchback and a sedan.

The rear overhang in this version is not vertical, but is a sloping slope, smoothly turning into a protruding trunk. In many liftbacks, two options for opening the tailgate are implemented - entirely or only the protruding part.

Such cars are most popular in the American market - it is for him that the giants of the automotive industry most often produce liftback variations. famous sedans, which, in case of commercial success, “migrate” to European and Russian retail centers.

The main differences between a liftback and a hatchback

Both classes described above are modifications passenger car, similar in characteristics and driving performance sedans from the same model range.

For the domestic consumer, both hatchbacks and liftbacks are of interest as vehicles for urban conditions, which are much more convenient than a sedan due to their dimensions and design solutions.

Agree, it's damn tempting to get a similar set of options at such a - still attractive - price. But is it all necessary in the Grant?


Looks great. In my opinion, the five-door is much more harmonious than the sedan with its overweight rear lights. And if you look at the Lada from a distance on a foggy day, Grant is almost a Bavarian “three-ruble note” GT. Fifteen inch alloy wheels, turn signal repeaters in the side mirrors - modern and fashionable. In general, the liftback looks good for its money and even more expensive. Exactly until you pull the tight door handle and find yourself in the driver's seat.

The most annoying thing is that Granta's problems are by no means fundamental. With ergonomics and landing geometry here, in general, is not so bad. The only pity is that the driver's seat is set a bit high and lowering it lower will not work. And the steering wheel height adjustment is limited to thirty-five millimeters (in Logan, the range is twice as large). However, these nuances cannot be unequivocally attributed to shortcomings. But other interior details - you can. And these little things are a billion.

The Itelma multimedia system at the first acquaintance does not raise unnecessary questions: there is an adequate menu structure, tolerable speed and a normal touchscreen sensor. It’s just that you have to turn off the multimedia device manually every time - it doesn’t “stall” along with the car. Moreover, I don’t know why AVTOVAZ needed this head unit in principle - after all, the Lada-Renault-Nissan alliance has access to the LG multimedia complex (they put it on XRAY, Logan,), which surpasses Itelma both in graphics and speed. Is Korean multimedia really more expensive?

A nasty residue leaves a USB port placed with inside glove box end. Frustrating and uneven effort on the "lambs" of the climatic unit, and accessories from even earlier VAZ cars (admire the handbrake handle). Finished off the abundance of silver: it is present on the elements of the panel and pebbled plastic door handles. According to someone's good intention, such a decision was supposed to give the salon solidity, but in fact it had the opposite effect. Grants interior lags behind the exterior and reminds every second that you are sitting in a very budget car.

But the back row pleased. Despite the sloping roof, there is no less headroom here than in the Ravon Nexia sedan (aka Chevrolet Aveo previous generation). Thus, even with a height of 185-190 cm, you can fit quite comfortably. Trips in the back of the three also do not cause discomfort, although Grant's shoulders are slightly tight. The same Renault Logan in this sense, it is noticeably more spacious. In part, the Grant-liftback is recouped due to the roomy. In pure volume, it loses 4 liters to Logan's (396 liters versus 400 liters - according to our measurements), but in terms of convenience it is many times superior. A bicycle for an adult assembly or a fairly large household appliance will easily fit here.

To be honest, for the hundredth time there is no desire to talk about the shortcomings and features of the VAZ robot. Yes, and it doesn’t make much sense either - you yourself are either perfectly aware of the hopelessness of AMT, or you are absolutely sure that the box is a wonderful miracle, and journalists are corrupt lazy people and simply haven’t learned how to handle it. In general, underline the right and let's move on. Fortunately, Grant gives enough other reasons to talk about himself.

Under the hood of our car is a 1.6-liter sixteen-valve engine with a capacity of 106 hp. I must say the motor is good. If I had not wasted his talents, our liftback could easily be called one of the most dynamic cars in the class. Not by seconds, but by sensations. With all this, Granta is very economical: real consumption amounted to 7 liters of fuel on the highway and 8.5 l / 100 km in the city. Part of the reason is that the car is quite light. The curb weight measured by us is only 1097 kg. The main competitors are 50–100 kg heavier.

The energy intensity of the Lada suspensions is beyond praise. Grant copes with broken asphalt and primers under the wheels no worse than Logan, whose suspensions are praised with amazing frequency. The only pity is that in terms of controllability, the “Russian woman” falls short of the main competitors. Feedback Grants on the steering wheel is much less than you want. And even at decent speeds, the steering wheel is annoying with a frightening weightlessness. There are no questions about the effectiveness of the brakes, but not everyone will like the non-linear effort on the pedals.

Is this Grant worth the money? Everyone will answer this question for himself. If a long list of options warms your soul, then why not? Yes - many of them do not work perfectly, but in general, such a car has a right to exist. If you are interested in my opinion, I will never buy such a car for my family - there are more than enough options even in this budget. For the same money, you can buy a slightly more modest Grant (or Datsun) with a classic Jatco machine. Can you refuse automatic transmission, pay about 50 thousand rubles and buy something from a bunch - Hyundai Solaris - Kia Rio. With a manual transmission, a pair of airbags, simple air conditioning and front power windows. The whole trinity rides much more thoroughbred, and each of these cars is made with great respect for future owners. For me personally, these qualities are more important than the navigation system and cruise control. And for you?

Lada Granta Liftback is a front-wheel drive five-door B-class liftback (according to European standards), which, unlike the four-door “brother”, is aimed at a younger target audience (often without a family and without driving experience) ...

The appearance of "Grants" in a five-door body, Russian motorists have been impatiently waiting for several years. Judge for yourself - back in the fall of 2012, this car, cutting through the streets of Samara, caught the eye of photo spies, but only at the end of April 2014, AvtoVAZ introduced the serial version of the "Grants" in the performance of "liftback", which on May 14 went into mass production at capacities of the Izhevsk Automobile Plant.

At the end of August 2018, at the stands of the international auto show in Moscow, the debut of a restyled five-door took place, which was “refreshed” externally (thanks to the new design of the front end), seriously changed inside and received a number of technical improvements (in particular, modernized “mechanics” and “robot ").

If a Granta sedan was developed with a focus on practical people, then, creating a five-door model, engineers and designers had to make it appeal to young people. And in many ways they succeeded - the car has an interesting appearance with harmonious proportions.

In front, the liftback completely and completely echoes the three-volume car of the same name, flaunting an X-shaped design, and on the other sides it has a number of distinguishing features - a dynamic silhouette with a sloping roof line that smoothly turns into a small “tail” of the trunk, and an original rear end topped with stylish lights, a large fifth door and a bumper with a black insert (which is stylized as a diffuser).

The "sedano-hatchback" Lada Granta is a representative of the B-segment according to the European classification: its length is 4246 mm, and its width and height are 1700 mm and 1500 mm, respectively. On the wheelbase the "VAZ" car has 2476 mm, and ground clearance has a high rate - 180 mm in the standard position, under load the clearance is reduced to 165 mm.

The interior of the "Grants in a three-volume-five-door solution" in its architecture and design has minimal differences from the interior of the sedan and does not shine with design frills. three-spoke steering wheel with an attractive look and optimal dimensions, it is located in front of a modern instrument panel, which provides all the information necessary for the driver. A neat center console with rectangular ventilation vents “at the very top looks pretty nice.

The instrument panel is made of materials as hard as wood, and in general coarse dark-colored plastic is used everywhere, diluted with silver inserts under the metal. But the build quality is decent - all panels are docked evenly, without obvious gaps, as a result of which there are no squeaks and noises during movement.

The five-door Lada Granta has fairly comfortable front seats with a long cushion, which provides good leg support, and well-developed sidewalls. The rear sofa provides free accommodation for two riders of medium height, for the third there will be little space in width.

It’s a pity that modern “L-shaped” head restraints are installed only in “advanced” liftback trim levels, they simply do not exist in the basic one.

The Lada Granta liftback has a trunk volume of 440 liters - an excellent indicator for the B-class! The backrest of the rear sofa, depending on the version, folds completely or separately (in a ratio of 60:40), freeing up 760 liters of space for transporting goods.

In the underground, the tool necessary for the driver and a full-fledged “spare tire” on a stamped disk are based, which on machines with 15-inch wheels is marked as a “stowaway” with the corresponding speed limits.

There are three available for the Liftback-Granta gasoline engines, corresponding to environmental standards "Euro-4":

  • The base unit for the car is an atmospheric 8-valve "four" with a volume of 1.6 liters (VAZ-11186), the maximum potential of which is 87 Horse power at 5100 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 3800 rpm.
    It is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission with cable drive, thanks to which the five-door accelerates to 100 km / h after 11.6 seconds, and the limit of possibilities does not exceed 166 km / h. At the same time, the “appetite” of the car is very moderate - 7 liters in a mixed driving mode.
  • An intermediate option is a 1.6-liter “aspirated” (VAZ-21126), equipped with a 16-valve timing and delivering 98 hp. at 5600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque potential at 4000 rpm.
    Only a 4-band “automatic” is docked with it, as a result of which the car leaves the first “hundred” behind in 13.7 seconds, gains a maximum of 167 km / h, and in “city / highway” conditions consumes at least 7.6 liters of fuel for every 100 km .
  • The flagship is a four-cylinder 1.6-liter engine (VAZ-21127), which includes electronic fuel supply technology and dynamic boost. As a result, the output of the "aspirated" is 106 "horses" at 5800 rpm and 148 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm.
    "Grant-liftback" with a 5-speed "mechanics" conquers the first hundred after 10.5 seconds, accelerating to 179 km / h. Available for him and 5-band automated mechanical transmission("robot"), as a result of which the acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h increases by 1.4 seconds with the same "maximum". Gasoline consumption does not exceed 6.6-6.7 liters in the combined cycle.

Lada Granta liftback, like the sedan of the same name, is based on the modernized "trolley" model Kalina. The car is equipped independent suspension front, based on shock absorber MacPherson struts, and a semi-independent rear design with a torsion beam and coil springs.

The five-door in the basic version is equipped with a steering mechanism without an amplifier with a gear speed of 4.02, but a shorter one is installed on more “saturated” copies steering rack(from lock to lock 3.1 turns) and an electric control amplifier.
The brake system has a simple structure - ventilated discs at the front and "drums" at the rear (in the "base" - with ABS + BAS and EBD).

Five-door Lada Granta Liftback 2019 model year can be purchased at Russian market at a price of 436,900 rubles - for this money you get a car equipped with an 87-horsepower engine and "mechanics".

As for the standard equipment, there is absolute parity with the four-door of the same name.

The main thing that catches your eye when looking at the car from the front is the new front bumper, which is also painted in body color. Actually, nothing else has changed in the “muzzle” of the car, however, other air intakes and areas for fog lights literally transformed the good old Grant. And only for the better. And, by the way, there will be no black bumpers on the new liftback at all, even in the cheapest Standard configuration.

And in profile, the liftback looks much more harmonious than the sedan. First of all, due to the sloping roof line and the original rear doors: the designers raised the window sill line, and slightly lowered the top one. As a result, the silhouette of the sedan against the background of the liftback began to look so unsightly that the owners of the 4-door Grant, keenly interested in the novelty, shook their heads dejectedly. Like, they would have known that the five-door would come out so interesting, they would have waited with the purchase of a sedan.

And this, we note, despite the fact that sedans have historically enjoyed greater respect among Russians than all other bodies. In addition, the liftback received original exterior mirrors. Turn signal repeaters are now built into them, and mirror lenses (as, indeed, side windows) are less polluted.

At the rear, the novelty is decorated with more compact lights and a fog lamp built into the bumper. It is curious that in the basic configuration the car is devoid of a janitor. And that's why.

No need for dirt

The angle of inclination of the rear part of the body was carefully studied in terms of aerodynamics. At the same time, VAZ designers assure that the sloping rear glass in rainy weather it is perfectly cleared by air streams. That is why in the basic configuration "Standard" there is no rear wiper. On machines in the "Norma" and "Lux" versions, however, it is installed. Perhaps just to justify their higher cost?

However, this is nothing more than an "engineering and marketing" incident. Much more important is how the issue with body rigidity is resolved. Since cars in 5-door modifications, unlike sedans, do not have a reinforcing “bulkhead” in the rear, designers have to pay special attention to the rigidity of the liftback body. As Sergey Medinets, head of the Lada Granta project, told the website, the roof and the floor in the middle of the cabin (near the legs of the rear passengers and under the pillow) were reinforced in the five-door rear seats), the middle spar (in the area of ​​\u200b\u200bfastening the levers rear suspension), the design of the middle spar amplifiers has been changed.

Why does the manufacturer position Grant with a fifth door as a liftback? Yes, it’s very simple - the “niche” of hatchbacks is already occupied, very similar to the Granta in design.

Pendant: which one would you like?

But the most interesting changes have occurred in the chassis of the five-door Grants. So, although the cars in the "Standard" and "Norma" versions received an improved suspension, the changes in it were reduced mainly to other settings. But in the performance of "Lux", the suspension of the liftback is significantly different from the sedan one: stabilizers roll stability both front and rear are much more powerful, gas-filled shock absorbers and stiffer springs are installed.

The purpose of all these innovations, according to S. Medinets, was to increase the stability of the car in corners, reduce rolls and buildup. The suspension of a luxury liftback is denser and more assembled than on a sedan, although, according to our interlocutor, the smoothness of the ride had to be sacrificed a little. And he himself ideal option for our roads, he considers the suspension in the “Standard” and “Norma” versions with conventional liquid shock absorbers and the same springs as on a sedan: “Such a car is not as accurate in reactions as a luxury car, but it “swallows” typical Russian road defects better ".

And finally new vacuum booster brakes, which received Lada Granta liftback. As a result, the pedal travel, according to our feelings, became less, and the force on it increases as braking is not as sharp as before. And in general, it has become more informative and accurate.

"Closer Effect"

It's nice that the VAZ engineers, working on the novelty, tried to fix the mistakes that annoy the owners of the "traditional" Grant body (the main claims were formulated by members of the clubs Lada owners Granta). So, noise isolation is significantly improved here: Grant in a five-door body is perceived as a much quieter car than a sedan. Especially in the version with automatic transmission. Improved mechanical box(she is exclusively cable on the liftback) has not got rid of the characteristic noise.

In addition, the liftback received new front door stops, thanks to which the squeaks disappeared when opened, and even a “closer effect” appeared when closing. On the rear doors new seals appeared - half-lowered windows no longer rattle, as on a sedan. From July, modified rear door locks will begin to be installed on the car - not so tight.

... And, as we have already said, a significant number of solutions applied in the liftback will also be adopted by the sedan. It is possible that the latter will receive a front bumper from the five-door at the end of the year. And the only thing that the “four-door” will never wait for is a stiffer version of the suspension: it is made for a relatively young audience that prioritizes handling, not comfort. And for 2016, a restyling of the entire Granta family is planned. But that's a completely different story...
