Kia cerato cons. Briefly about the shortcomings of the second generation Kia cerate with mileage

Kia Cerato debuted in 2003. The car was offered in sedan and 5-door hatchback. The American version was called Spectra and was equipped with only a 2-liter gasoline engine. In 2006, the model was updated. Cosmetic changes received headlights, taillights, trunk lid and front bumper.

Kia Surato still looks attractive. I like the interior less. Inside, it is spacious even for rear passengers, but the finishing materials are not impressive. In addition, they wear out quickly, and plastic begins to creak over time. But, at the disposal of passengers there are many places for storing small items, a roomy glove box and cup holders. Trunk volume 345 liters.

The Korean is built on the same platform with Hyundai Elantra XD. AT EuroNCAP crash tests held in 2006, the sedan earned three out of five possible stars. He also received the same amount for protecting children in car seats.

Engines

The Kia Cerata has three petrol and three diesel engines. However, among the ads, cars with a 1.6-liter gasoline aspirated dominate. There are also proposals with a 2-liter gasoline engine and a 1.5-liter turbodiesel.

Petrol 1.6 l provides quite satisfactory performance. And the chance of running into expensive repairs is minimal. In 2006, instead of a 105-horsepower unit (G4ED), they began to install a 122-horsepower (4GFC). The first is equipped with hydraulic valve clearance compensators, and the second needs to adjust the valve clearance by selecting pushers (every 100,000 km). The 2-liter engine (G4GC) is devoid of hydraulic lifters. Valve clearances are adjusted using washers.

The timing mechanism of the 122-horsepower 4GFC is driven by a chain. Its resource is more than 250-300 thousand km. Sometimes there is premature stretching of the chain - closer to 200,000 km. Incidents have even been recorded - an open circuit and a bend in the valves. But all these troubles are isolated cases. It is worth noting that the batch of motors in 2007 had problems with the chain tensioner. His stock lacked free play. The defect was later corrected.

The pre-styling version of the 1.6-liter engine (G4ED) and the 2-liter (G4GC) have a combined timing drive. Toothed belt The timing is connected to only one camshaft. And the camshafts are interconnected by a short chain located on the back of the motor. Chain resource more than 300,000 km.

Gas distribution mechanism diesel engines driven by a chain. It can stretch after 200,000 km.

Among the common problems, engine mounts can be noted, the resource of which is about 100-150 thousand km. Attachment, as a rule, does not require attention up to 200-250 thousand km.

Transmission

The engines were combined with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Moreover, diesel engines could only be combined with a manual transmission.

Problems with the machine are rare and occur after 200-250 thousand km. Fortunately, repairs are not difficult and relatively inexpensive - up to 40-50 thousand rubles. To extend the life of the automatic transmission, you should not forget to change the oil in the box every 60,000 km.

The mechanics start to worry a little earlier. After 100,000 km - a dead release bearing (from 1,000 rubles), and after 100-150 thousand km - a leaky clutch master cylinder (2,800 rubles). After 150-200 thousand km, it is the turn of the clutch (from 5,000 rubles per set). It should be noted that in cars with diesel engines the resource of these components is less by about a third. The manual transmission itself takes a long time.

After 100-150 thousand km, the outer CV joint may make noise (from 2,000 rubles). More often the cause is a leaky anther. Drive oil seals serve 200-300 thousand km.

Chassis

MacPherson struts work on the front axle, and a multi-link scheme on the rear axle. Road behavior can be criticized due to large body roll and oversteer.

The strength of the chassis is not objectionable, not counting the springs. One of them may break after 100-150 thousand km (about 3,000 rubles). The original shock absorbers and front strut bearings last a little longer.

The front wheel bearings run more than 100-150 thousand km, and the rear ones - over 200-250 thousand km.

Front suspension bushings and ball bearings may require attention after 150-200 thousand km, and rear suspension earlier - after 100,000 km. After 100,000 km, the steering rack may knock.

Other problems and malfunctions

The Cerato body is not prone to corrosion. However, with intensive use in salty winters, red spots may appear on the thresholds in 7-8 years. There are even cases when the thresholds rotted through. Rust attacks from within.

There are interruptions in the operation of the central lock. One of the reasons is the jamming of the lock mechanism. The manufacturer even advised to grind off the “extra” protrusion of the tongue a little. Less commonly, the problem is caused by a microswitch failure.

Problems with the air conditioner after 150-200 thousand km can arise due to the bearing of the compressor clutch pulley. ABS sensors may need to be replaced after 150-200 thousand km.

Conclusion

The first generation Kia Cerato is a successful model. It rarely breaks down and is quite cheap to maintain and repair. Any problems are solely caused by age and excessive mileage. For the inexperienced shopper, the Surato is a smart choice.

For the revolution in the design of all Cerato, as well as other models of this brand, one should thank the famous designer Peter Schreyer, who in 2006 was bought by KIA from VW and who today has become not only the chief designer of the brand, but also the president of Kia Motors.

In preparing this model, the Koreans also reworked its technical stuffing - it received new, more powerful engines, a modern "automatic", a less complex and expensive rear suspension to maintain.

The range of modifications of the hero of our material has changed a little: as before, he has a classic sedan in his arsenal, but the less popular hatchback of its predecessor has been replaced by a stylish coupe. It looks especially bright and dynamic - aggressive front bumper, rear diffuser with two twin "trunks" exhaust system, doors without traditional frames, red inserts on the dashboard and door cards, aluminum pedals, etc.

Thanks to the bright design, Cerato Koup coupes are widely used in Ukraine.

By the way, unlike its predecessor, whose copies officially sold in Ukraine were assembled by the SKD method at the Lutsk Automobile Plant, the hero of our material is a purebred "Korean".

Body KIA Cerato

As operating experience has shown, in general, Cerato bodies have good corrosion resistance. The only thing weakness– frames rear doors(rust sometimes appears under the black arakal pasted on them). The chrome coating on the radiator grille and company emblems is not resistant - due to sandblasting and aggressive chemicals in car washes, it often peels off. A feature of later versions of Cerato, equipped with mirrors with “turn signal” repeaters, is that their LED bulbs are only assembled with a ceiling (previously, a lamp with an incandescent filament could be replaced separately and, accordingly, it was much cheaper).

The interior trim plastic is beautiful in appearance, but with tactile contact it turns out to be tough. Luckily, it's not squeaky. On early versions, a two-tone trim of the dashboard and door cards (black top and beige bottom) was used, which in practice turned out to be less wear-resistant - it is easily scratched. On other versions, the quality of the plastic is better. As for the seat trim, the rag upholstery is less wear-resistant - over time it becomes greasy and shiny, but the leather trim is unnecessarily wrinkled. The combination of leather and rag (versions of the last years of production) turned out to be of the highest quality. There are also complaints about the leather upholstery of the “steering wheel” and the gearshift lever, as well as decorative silver inserts on the steering wheel, gearshift console and door handles - they often peel off.

In general, the interior equipment works without problems, the only weak point is the power window button block on the driver's door. There were also problems with the company key (see photo "Weaknesses").

The sedan is more practical and roomy than the coupe - it is designed to carry five crew members. Compared to the previous generation wheelbase model increased by 40 mm and this allowed to "carve out" more free space inside. So, if people of average height sit in front, behind them on the second row, passengers of the same build will very comfortably accommodate. The low central tunnel of the body contributes to the convenience of landing an average passenger.

The rear seat of the sedan (pictured) can accommodate three people of average build. The low central tunnel of the body contributes to the convenience of landing an average passenger. There is noticeably less space in the coupe.

But in the coupe there is noticeably less space: the roof will hang over your head, and the width of the three will be crowded (according to the passport data, this car is designed to carry four people). In addition, landing and disembarking from the "gallery" is akin to a gymnastic exercise and only young people can handle it, on which, in fact, this modification is oriented. There is less free space for the legs, apparently, its designers gave it up in favor of the cargo compartment, which is 25 liters more in the coupe than in the sedan - 440 liters versus 415 liters, respectively. Although we note that according to these indicators, the trunks of both modifications are among the smallest. In both versions, when folding the rear seatbacks, a flat cargo area is not obtained.

A curious feature of the sedan is that it is inferior to the coupe in terms of trunk volume - 440 liters versus 415 liters, respectively. Although according to these indicators, the trunks of both modifications are one of the smallest among competitors. For example, at Ford sedans Focus offer 465 liters, Renault Megane- 520 l, but here Chevrolet Lacetti- only 405 liters.

KIA Cerato engines

The Cerato powertrain line consists of gasoline engines only. In total, the model has three engines in its arsenal, although only two versions were officially sold in Ukraine: 1.6- and 2.0-liter ones. Under the hood of sedans, a smaller “engine” is more common, and a coupe, on the contrary, due to its more active temperament, is larger. There is a certain distribution among gearboxes - Ukrainian consumers often bought sedans with "mechanics", but coupes - with "automatic".

According to the minders of the branded service station, in practice both Cerato motor proved to be quite reliable and, unlike the KIA Cee'd, no characteristic malfunctions were identified in them. Recall that a relative with a 2.0 liter engine had problems with the corrugation of the exhaust system and the motors of the electric fans of the cooling system.

There are no comments on the operation of the CVVT variable valve timing system and individual ignition coils. To increase the reliability of the timing system, it uses a reliable metal chain, the durability of which is also no complaints. The cylinder heads of all engines are not equipped with hydraulic lifters. At the same time, there are no clear deadlines for adjusting the thermal clearances of the valves, and, according to mechanics, this procedure is usually performed only when repairing the head.

Under the hood of sedans (pictured), a smaller 1.6-liter “engine” is more common in terms of volume, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Cerato engines, especially when paired with an automatic machine, have a good fuel appetite: in the urban cycle, a 1.6 unit consumes about 9 liters per “hundred”, and 2.0 liters - under 11 liters. Therefore, to save money during operation, many Cerato owners install gas equipment. As practice has shown, its motors work quite normally on gas. At the same time, for durable and, most importantly, trouble-free operation, it is necessary to adjust the valve clearances every 30-50 thousand km - otherwise they may burn out. However, this work is quite laborious and it costs about UAH 5,000 at a branded service station (with grinding of adjusting cups).

Two types of gearboxes were intended for Cerato: 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic (on cars of the first years of production) or 6-speed (on more recent copies). As the operating experience has shown, all gearboxes of the "Korean" have proven to be reliable and no sores have been identified in them. Their maintenance consists only in regular oil changes - every 90 thousand km. At the same time, we recall that in the "mechanics" of KIA Cee'd there were problems with the release bearing, and in the "automatic" - with the solenoids of the gearshift lever, the valve body and the electrical connector for connecting the computer.

Suspension KIA Cerato

Unlike its predecessor and related KIA Cee’d, the second-generation Cerato designers simplified its rear suspension - the complex and expensive “multi-link” to repair was replaced with a simpler and unpretentious semi-independent torsion beam. But in front, as before, an independent McPherson with an anti-roll bar is used.

The weak point of the cars of the first years of production is the short-lived anthers-chippers of the front struts - they came off and knocked while driving. Later, the manufacturer upgraded these parts and after replacement, as a rule, there are no problems with them.

A serviceable Cerato suspension is moderately stiff - it shakes it noticeably on bumps, but the chassis “digests” them confidently, giving into the cabin only deaf slaps of tires.

Most often, on our roads, you will have to change the stabilizer bushings - every 40-60 thousand km, but the racks can withstand a little more - 60-80 thousand km. Further intervention will be required for runs of 100-120 thousand km - at this time, the silent blocks of the front levers, ball bearings and strut bearings become unusable.

Against the background of the front end, the rear semi-independent suspension has proven itself to be “eternal” - the mechanics who advised us did not recall cases of replacing the “rubber bands” of the beam. The only remark concerns the rear springs on sedans - they sag with frequent loads. The coupe uses other stiffer springs and no such problems were noted in them. Although, due to their active temperament, they are usually not used for frequent transportation of heavy loads. When replacing sagging springs, mechanics are advised to install more durable springs from a coupe.

The steering of all Cerato is equipped with hydraulic booster. On our roads, to a run of 80-100 thousand km, the rail bushing breaks, which is manifested by a characteristic knock when driving through bumps. Fortunately, the unit is repairable. Tie rods become unusable a little earlier - by 70-90 thousand km, but the tips "hold" longer - 100-120 thousand km.

But to brake system Cerato experts have no complaints, you just need to remember to lubricate the caliper guides when replacing the pads. Otherwise, they may wedge. However, this recommendation applies to all cars.

More powerful 2.0-liter versions of sedans released since 2011 are easily distinguished from 1.6-liter ones by a chrome muffler nozzle (early versions were not equipped with such a device).

Summary "AC"

Under the expressive, and in the coupe - also dynamic appearance of the Cerato, there is a completely reliable technical stuffing, which, as Ukrainian operating experience has shown, turned out to be better than that of the closest related KIA. Only the insufficiently high quality of finishing details can upset the owners. But is that the main thing?

Results of "AC"

Body and interior2.5 stars

Expressive sedan design. Dynamic and stylish coupe. Quality upholstery made from a combination of leather and cloth. The low central floor tunnel contributes to a comfortable fit for the average passenger.

- Rust may appear on the frames of the rear doors, peel off the chrome coating on the radiator grille and company emblems. Expensive replacement of lamps in turn signal repeaters (more recent copies). Low wear resistance of two-tone plastic trim and rag lining. Leather upholstery wears out quickly. Often the leather lining of the “steering wheel” and the gearshift lever, silver inserts on the steering wheel, gearshift console and door handles are covered. The buttons on the power window block are pressed through. The interior of the coupe is closer than the sedan, and landing on rear seats uncomfortable. Small trunks.

Engines4 stars

Trouble-free motors. They work well on gas.

– The range of engines is limited to only petrol units. Paired with automatic transmission, "petrol" is quite voracious. For trouble-free operation on gas, motors require frequent adjustment of thermal valve clearances, and this procedure is laborious and expensive.

Transmission5 stars

Reliable gearboxes.

Chassis and steering4 stars

Rigid running. durable rear suspension. Trouble-free brakes.

- Short-lived anthers-chippers of the front struts (cars of the first years of production). With frequent heavy loads, the rear springs of the sedan sag. The steering rack bushing is broken.

Weak spots KIA Cerato

The leather trim of the steering wheel and gear lever knob is not wear-resistant and will peel off over time.

In the branded key fob of the central lock, the body of the “miscarriage” key pin may break.

From frequent, and sometimes inaccurate use, the driver's window control button in the power window block on the driver's door is pressed through.

- for every minus there is a plus (test drive from Test-drive.ru)

The new Kia cerate seemed very interesting. So much so that it became simply impossible to resist a test drive Kia. This is due to the enticing appearance of this Kia Cerato, a length of more than 4.5 meters and a price of 559,000 rubles. Poizuchav Kia cerate at the entrance to Auchan at Belaya Dacha (where he was put on public display), it was decided to take this Kia to the test.

Of the three Kia trim levels Cerate, it was decided to choose the minimum, the one for 559 thousand. This is a Kia with a 1.6 engine and manual transmission. Two other configurations - 1.6 manual transmission (but with a number of additional options- 599,000 rubles) and 1.6 automatic transmission (639,000 rubles).

Internal pluses

How is Kia cerate able to seduce the buyer? First, very spacious interior. Behind the driver, whose height is 180 cm, even a two-meter giant can easily sit down! Because of its length (193 cm), the cabin seems narrow, but in fact it is wide enough for three passengers (147 cm) - measure the width of your shoulders (it will be about 45-50 cm). The numbers are beautiful. I can’t even believe that such a large interior of Kia Cerato was designed by slender Koreans. Not otherwise, they tried especially for Europe. I arrogantly open the trunk of the Kia (for the sake of such a large cabin, they probably saved on it for the sake of such a large cabin) and ... what are you going to do - there are a lot of places! It's hard to even reach the back wall. But the loading opening, due to the small tailgate, is small, and the threshold is high. In addition, a plump bumper (like the previous Kia Cerato) does not allow you to get closer to the luggage. All loading and unloading had to be done with one hand, leaning on the threshold or trunk floor with the other.

The interior of the Kia Cerato is made of inexpensive plastic, and the version chosen for the test has a uniform gray color, without aluminum inserts. It doesn’t look festive at all, but there is an incentive, by paying 40 thousand, to get aluminum decoration, and in addition: steering wheel adjustment for reach, fog lights and a light sensor, climate control instead of air conditioning, side airbags, curtains and active head restraints, ESP system, heated front seats and windshield. This is what KIA marketers were counting on.

For me the main advantage Salon Kia Cerate was not so much the presence of an audio system that plays MP3 discs, but AUX and USB ports for a USB flash drive and iPod. Bulky discs that take up a lot of space in the glove box or armrest of the car, I have not used for a long time. What progress has been made! People are already unhappy with the bulkiness of CDs!

Noise isolation Kia cerate has two flaws - the noise comes from the wheel arches and from the engine when the speed reaches 90 km / h. Tolerable, but I would like to strengthen the soundproofing of the wheel arches. As for the sound Kia motor, then this, of course, is not BMW singing, but there are pleasant notes in the voice.

In general, the interior makes a favorable impression: large, neat and comfortable. Summed up only the dullness of the design (which is fixable), insulation (also fixable) and the boot opening of the trunk.

In move

On the go, the Kia Cerate is not as good as it looks. Do not flatter yourself - this is not an athlete, but do not be upset - the gait of Kia Cerato has enough advantages.

Cerate steering wheel is quite informative, but when compared with driving kia Sid is somewhat blind. Not suitable for racing, but for a civilian, albeit a fast ride, just right. At a speed of 90 km / h, cerate sometimes needs to be slightly corrected on the trajectory, but at 130 km / h the car is properly pressed to the road and steering improves somewhat. No, the feedback from the wheels does not get better, but the need to correct the Kia's trajectory disappears. Because of the incomprehensible feedback steering wheel with wheels, it is necessary to take turns at speed more carefully, but it is better to slow down, not to be naughty.

The Kia cerate suspension has both a huge plus and a rather big minus. Plus lies in the ability to comfortably drive on uneven and even just killed roads. Some pits on the road (cut out pieces of asphalt) Kia Cerato passes almost without noticing, and on dirt roads you can only wonder how beautifully the car's suspension swallows all the bumps, as if they become three times smaller. No bumps, no swings, just tires slamming. I even tried to bypass the dacha traffic jam on the side of the road - great! Here is an example: when suddenly a hole appeared on the side of the road on the floor of the wheel, I, without having time to slow down, closed my eyes, waiting for the right wheel to dive into it and the suspension breakdown, but nothing happened - Kia nodded slightly, and very smoothly, slammed the tire and rushed on . At the same time, neither balancing nor wheel alignment were violated, and the tie rods were not damaged. Suspension just for our dead roads!

Minus Kia suspension Cerato - in its small roll, but most importantly - in unimportant stability rear axle in turns. Sometimes, when hitting some joint or bump, it rearranges it. Most likely - due to unequal weight distribution along the axes.

In general, I liked the steering and suspension settings - they correspond to each other. With such a suspension, like the Kia cerate, a sharp steering wheel is useless. It's nice to drive, you just have to remember some of the described features.

A small digression. Don't trust looks modern machines! Drivers often fall prey to tricks when a sporty-looking car steers poorly and is unstable on the road. A vivid example of this is the Mitsubishi Lancer (how many I have seen them in cuvettes!). Kia cerate, although it steers better, but not like the older brother Kia Sid, and is not suitable for annealing.

One but 126

The Kia Cerato has one engine - a 1.6-liter, but 126-horsepower. Like all modern engines, the Cerato motor is strangled by environmental regulations. It slowly spins up when regassing in neutral and just as slowly slows down, but accelerates the car quite vigorously for its volume - 10 seconds to hundreds. True, when overtaking traction is not always enough. I’ll say this about efficiency - the test cerate was still on the run-in (1,500 km) and consumed more than promised in technical specifications: 30 liters per 400 km when driving at a speed of 70-130 km/h. How much fuel will it burn after running in is a question.

Incomprehensible lightness

And although at times the thrust of the Kia Cerato engine is not enough, I only met this character of the car with Honda (Civic, Jazz) - the car seems weightless, light as a toy, although it weighs 1236 kg. Where this pleasant feeling comes from is still not thought of. Even powerful cars with turbocharged engines do not feel like this (you still feel that you are driving a fast, but heavy, inert car) - so it's not about the power of the engine. Lighter cars also behave differently - which means it's not about weight. In settings? Maybe.

19.11.2016

The second generation Kia Cerato is one of the creations of the world famous German designer Peter Schreyer. After his arrival at KIA, all cars of this brand received a bright design and a signature tiger grin, and Cerato is no exception. But the average buyer is more interested not in appearance, but in the reliability and practicality of the car, you see, no one needs a constantly breaking, uncomfortable, but beautiful car. Fortunately, KIA engineers managed to combine beauty, comfort and reliability, but there were some drawbacks, and we'll talk about them today.

A bit of history:

The first generation was produced in South Korea. In its homeland, the car was called "Kia K3" and went on sale in 2003. In other markets, the car went on sale in 2004 and under different names: in Europe, Australia, Brazil and the CIS - Cerato, in the USA - Spectra. According to a number of online publications, this model immediately became a "bestseller" and in many countries has long been a leader in sales. The second generation of the model was presented in 2009 at the motor show in Los Angeles. New compared to previous version, had a completely new appearance, which corresponded to the new design concept of KIA cars.

If the first generation was produced in a sedan and hatchback body, then in the second generation, instead of a hatchback, they began to produce cars in a coupe body (produced since 2010). All over the world, the model was sold under the name "Kia Forte", and in some countries, including the CIS, the former name was retained, due to the desire of the representative office to save on the promotion of the new model. In the CIS, the car has been officially sold since March 2009. The second generation Kia Cerato was built on the cheaper Kia Sid platform, and "" was also built on it. Compared to the previous generation, the novelty has become a little wider and longer. Also, the wheelbase has been increased, which has a positive effect on the stability and handling of the car. At the same time, the clearance was reduced by one centimeter, which in turn had a positive effect on aerodynamic performance.

In 2009, a hybrid version of the car was presented at the Seoul auto show, Korean engineers equipped this concept with a 1.6 gasoline engine and a 15 kW 20 hp engine powered by a lithium polymer battery. It is worth noting that such a battery was first used in the automotive industry. Unlike "", which has a big difference in appearance between the American and European versions, Cerato has only one difference - the color of the direction indicator in the taillights (in the American version it is red, and in the European version it is orange). The second generation of the car was produced until 2013, after which the third generation of this model came to replace it.

Advantages and disadvantages of Kia cerate with mileage

The paintwork, traditionally for cars from Korea, is very thin, plus it is water-based, as a result, scratches and chips on the car body appear quite quickly. On specimens older than three years, chrome elements begin to peel off, and paint on the trunk lid, rear doors, arches and windshield pillars may also begin to swell. Despite this, foci of corrosion on cars in their native paint appear extremely rarely. As with most budget cars, headlights mist up during temperature changes, and their glazing is often covered with cracks. Due to the poor-quality rear door seal, moisture gets into the cabin in rainy weather.

Power units

This model is equipped with simple atmospheric gasoline engines - 1.6 (125 hp) and 2.0 (150 hp). European and American copies, in addition to the above two engines, are also equipped with power units - gasoline 2.4 (176 hp), diesel 1.6 (140 hp) and turbodiesel 1.6 (128 hp). Some car owners complain that after starting a cold engine, from the area power unit, are distributed extraneous sounds. This sound is very much like the clatter of valves, as a rule, appears after 50,000 km of run. In most cases, the source of this knock is the timing chain, or rather its tensioner, and if the tensioner is not replaced in time, the chain jumps, and then the fatal meeting of the valves with the pistons is inevitable.

When buying a car with a mileage of 80-100 thousand km, I would recommend replacing the tensioner along with the chain. I will explain why, the replacement will cost a lot, about 200 USD, but this will protect you from possible troubles for 70-100 thousand kilometers. At 120-130 thousand kilometers, the engine begins to eat up oil in order to eliminate this shortcoming have to change valve stem seals and rings. AT very coldy Most car owners have difficulty starting the unit. This happens due to the fact that the grease in the solenoid relay is not intended for operation in frost, and as a result, it thickens a lot. With a run of 100,000 km, the starter, thermostat and pump fail.

Transmission

Initially, a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic were installed on the Kia Cerato. In 2010, there was a slight technical upgrade, after which they began to use a six-speed manual and automatic transmission. mechanical box gears, closer to 50,000 km, starts to buzz when driving on reverse gear, and with increasing mileage, the hum will only intensify. To fix the problem, it is necessary to replace the clutch kit, in the official service they ask for about 400 USD for this. Release bearing on this machine, sounding, so do not be surprised if you squeeze the clutch and you hear a whistle and a squeak. Replacing the bearing solves the problem for a short time, for a maximum of 15,000 km. Many owners, in order not to listen to the annoying squeak, lubricate the bearing and fork area with special grease.

To the reliability of the four-stage automatic box there are no complaints about gears, but a six-speed one can present an unpleasant surprise. So, in particular, the owners complain about the rush of the hose, which diverts transmission oil for cooling. The explanation of the problem is simple, for some time defective hoses were supplied to the production. In most cases, this defect was repaired under warranty. Also, after 100,000 km of run, the valve body and the selector sensor (inhibitor) fail.

Problem areas of the Kia cerate chassis

The chassis, in comparison with the previous version, was significantly modernized - in front, as before, a MacPherson-type suspension was installed, but in the back, instead of a comfortable multi-link, they began to install an indestructible semi-independent beam. Knocks in the cerate suspension appear early enough, but you should not be afraid of them, since these inconveniences are caused by the detached shock absorber boot. The problem is solved easily and inexpensively, you need to install the anther in place and fix it with clamps.

Like most modern cars most often you will have to change the stabilizer struts and bushings, about once every 30-40 thousand km. The front shock absorbers, depending on the operating conditions, live 50-80 thousand km, the rear ones up to 150,000 km, but the rear springs can sag as early as 100,000 km. After 60,000 km, you need to monitor the condition of the CV joint boot, since on many specimens it is on this run that cracks appear on it, which negatively affects the resource of the CV joint itself. Silent blocks, wheel bearings, ball bearings with careful operation will last about 100,000 km. steering rack here it is very weak and by 60,000 km 80% of cars require replacement or repair.

Outcome:

The second generation Kia Cerato is a reliable and fairly easy to maintain car. Despite all the shortcomings, cerate remains one of the most interesting options in the budget up to 11,000 USD.

Advantages:

  • Design
  • Low price for spare parts.
  • Moderate fuel consumption.
  • Roomy trunk.

I took what was suitable for the budget and what I liked. You could, of course, strain yourself, get into debt and take Skoda Octavia but the meaning? Of course, the Korean auto industry was a little embarrassing, but on the other hand, these are not the Chinese after all.

I really like the look of the car. The lines are smooth, the muzzle is moderately aggressive. Reminds me a little of the Honda Civic, but not much. Got it in standard white. I think it suits the car the best.

After a slight operation, the wipers began to smear, especially the one on the passenger side. A little annoying, to be honest. It is clear that now every automaker is trying to save as much as possible, but to encroach on the wipers is already too much. So in the near future they will be replaced with something better and more durable. Since I took the car in February, I managed to check the operation of the stove with a “hair dryer”. Her work is beyond praise. At temperatures below minus thirty, the interior warms up in just a few minutes (5-6). Sweat constantly during rainy days windshield. So far I can't figure out why.

The quality of interior trim materials is very average. The steering wheel is covered with frank leatherette of low quality, on the ceiling there is incomprehensible paper. But the gaps are the same everywhere, and the plastic, although hard, is not creaky.

The material with which the chairs are upholstered also does not make you have false illusions. It gets dirty pretty quickly, while I try to keep the car clean. So I’m thinking, splurge on covers or drive the “steel horse” to dry cleaning? Haven't decided yet.

The motor itself and its power suits me quite well. The dynamics are excellent (I think due to the fact that I took it on the “handle”). Acceleration is not a problem. I also liked the box. The gears are short, so “clicking” is one contentment. But the clutch pedal, in my opinion, could be made a little shorter. It would be more convenient.

By fuel consumption. On-board computer it underestimates by about 0.5 liters. It shows 8.5, and on checks I get 9. Such a cunning “Korean”, or they don’t top up at gas stations.

Noise isolation, of course, is very weak. Somewhere on 3+. The weakest point is the wheel arches. You can hear absolutely everything that happens there. Especially annoying sand and small pebbles. Therefore, I plan to improve this side of the car in the near future.

I really liked the work of the suspension in urban conditions. Honestly, I didn't expect this from a car. I did not hear any extra sounds, squeaks or something else even in the cold. On the track, the suspension already behaves a little worse and allows buildup. Not strong, but you have to get used to it.

And of course, it’s better not to leave the asphalt on the Cerato. The car is imprisoned only for the city, it is “offended” by the village “rides” and in every possible way prevents them.

And, here's another thing, the windshield is very delicate and weakly resists external factors (sand, stones, etc.). Just a few weeks later, the first traces appeared on it. By the way, the paintwork is also "dead". Catching a chip is easy. But this, as I understand it, all Korean cars sin.

Advantages of Kia Cerato 1.6:

Appearance, dynamics, suspension (only in the city), interior heating.

Disadvantages of Kia Cerato 1.6:

The quality of finishing materials, weak windshield and paintwork, soundproofing.
