What is the difference between the new Tiguan and the old one. New VW Tiguan assembled in Kaluga — the first test

In our time without localization in any way. It not only smoothes out the fluctuations of the ruble, but also allows you to adapt cars to Russian road and climatic conditions. So the Tiguan was produced in Russia for almost its entire conveyor life. And the new Tiguan, for which we started this test, comes out with a delay for the only reason - it took time to set up production in Kaluga. Actually, the adjustment is still in the process and we have to wait several months before the start of sales, but we were the first in Russia to get a car assembled in Kaluga!

Buyers will be offered a choice of nine combinations of engines, gearboxes and drive types. We settled on an all-wheel drive Tiguan with a two-liter 180-horsepower turbo engine and a DSG robot. And let's push him against the regulars of the top sales: Mazda CX‑5 and Kia Sportage.

Opponents are also local spill. Mazda is localized in Vladivostok. The test car is armed with a 2.5-liter “four” SkyActiv with a capacity of 192 hp, a 6-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.

Sportage is an unsurpassed leader in terms of local assembly: all its generations were assembled in Kaliningrad! In theory, we should have taken the petrol version for comparison. But in terms of power, a 185‑horsepower diesel engine is more suitable, which is slightly cheaper and extremely popular on the Russian market. In general, we take diesel! Of course, with automatic and all-wheel drive.

Don't complain?

Strictly full face or behind the new Tiguan is good! The faceted body and multi-storey front optics made it more interesting. But in profile, the Tiguan looks like a passenger car - you can feel the influence of Golf: the same slope rear pillars, large front overhang.

However, design is a matter of taste. But will the almost light appearance affect the geometric cross-country ability? And how! Due to the low bumper, the approach angle is really small - less than twenty degrees.

The interior is a geometrically verified space. It’s as if ergonomics specialists redrawn the front panel hundreds of times until the gaps between the buttons, deflectors and chrome strips came to mathematical perfection. And for some reason, you don’t doubt for a moment that the designers tried to please you. Otherwise, how to explain that each of the participants in our test group quickly and without problems found a comfortable fit, and rated the relative position of the controls and all the buttons at five plus? It's cozy and everything is intuitive. The case when the manual will remain gathering dust in the glove box as unnecessary.

But in this impeccability and the weakness of the Tiguan. Assertive acceleration and honed driving properties are taken for granted - and if Volkswagen at least gives some slack, it immediately hurts the eyes. I'm not talking about hard suspension response on small bumps - this character is traditional for many German cars. Fortunately, on medium and large calibers, the Tiguan steadfastly holds a blow. But a little aerodynamic noise is another matter. Not a crime, but against the background of perfectly insulated wheel arches and a muffled engine compartment, a light breeze in the area windshield, waking up at a speed of 100 km / h, is perceived as a tornado.

Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact crossover that has been produced since 2007. Recently, the 2nd generation of Tiguan came out, and on secondary market there are many offers for the sale of the 1st generation Tiguan. Whether it is worth buying a supported Volkswagen Tiguan, we will now find out. Tiguans appeared in Russia in mid-2008, cars were assembled in Kaluga. If at first these cars were assembled using the SKD SKD technology, then after 2010, cars were already produced in Kaluga according to the full cycle - CKD, where the bodies were welded and painted.

The build quality is the same that the Germans assembled, that ours. There were of course a couple of nuances, for example, side doors poorly adjusted, and also the tailgate is crookedly planted, but after a few months they learned to do everything right. So, the oldest cars had to be recalled for service in order to replace some of the bolts and put them on sealant. If this is not done, then cardan shaft loosen up.

Salon

The interior is quite high quality, the materials look almost like new after many years of operation, of course everything depends on the previous owner. But it happens that even the door trim on the go can start to creak. On Tiguans manufactured from 2008 to 2009, the wiring had to be repaired under warranty: the wire that comes from the antifreeze temperature sensor broke, so the fan worked constantly. There is also a harness that goes to the engine control unit, it is poorly fixed, so it could burn, which would make the car immovable.

There were also cases that the headlights went out on their own on cars manufactured before 2011. This situation was corrected in 2013. The problem was in the fuse or switching unit, which is located under the hood. But the body is well protected from corrosion, the only weak point is on the tailgate, rust may appear on the lower edge.

Over time, purely cosmetic flaws appear, some you won’t even see right away, for example, the soundproofing sheet of the hood can sag after a few years, and if you wash the engine carelessly, this sheet will come off completely. AT dealer centers they changed the clip-holders, or completely replaced the soundproofing casing. The appearance can be spoiled by the radiator grill, which is peeling off, door linings, paint peeling off the side mirrors and bumpers. By the way, if chips appear, they should be painted over as soon as possible, because the remaining paint may begin to peel off.

More traditionally weak points door locks and a stove motor are considered, which is already starting to make a lot of noise after 3 years of car operation. A new such motor costs 130 euros, but for the first time you can simply lubricate the bearing.

Tiguan has an RNS radio navigation system released by by Continental, lasts a long time and does not fail, therefore, if it happens that it cannot be controlled using the buttons on the steering wheel, then this means that you need to change the contacts on the steering column for 120 euros, because because of them the signal may stop working and safety bag.

Motors

The very first cars Russian assembly were equipped with a 1.4-liter engine with a capacity of 150 liters. with. There are 25% of cars on the market with this engine. The motor is economical, but pulls well, the car accelerates quite quickly. But not everything is so good with reliability. The liquid intercooler gets dirty over time. So, if you give a high load, then the piston group will wear out faster, the bridges between the rings can burn out, the pistons will collapse, especially the 2nd and 3rd. The overhaul of this motor is quite expensive - 2500 euros, so it is better to look for the motor somewhere for disassembly.

In 2011, there was a restyling and a 1.4 TSI engine was installed in Tiguanas - this is an upgraded version of the same engine. The power remained the same, only the pistons were strengthened, so that the motor became more reliable.

But some problems with the motor still remained. For example, high-pressure fuel pumps and injectors are sensitive to fuel, if you fill in low-quality fuel at least once, you will have to pay 260 euros for a new high-pressure fuel pump, and 150 euros for each injector. After 100,000 km. run, a pump may start to flow, which costs 350 euros. Approximately 60,000 can stretch the chain in the timing drive. The chain itself costs 70 euros plus labor costs. Therefore, in order not to have to overhaul the motor, it is better to do it in advance, as soon as rattling or rattling appears, immediately check the condition of the chain and change it. But definitely after 100,000 km. she needs to be changed.

In general, all these problems are typical for Tiguan gasoline engines. The 1.4 TSI supercharged engine with a power of 122 liters. s., which appeared in 2011, the chain is also not very strong. It must also be remembered that it is undesirable to leave a Tiguan with any gasoline engine on a hill without a handbrake, starting from a pusher is also a big risk, because the chain can jump over the teeth, especially when it is on the way. In general, you need to be careful with the chain.

By the way, the 1.4 TSI twin-charged engine, which has a cast-iron cylinder block, an aluminum head and a phase shifter on the intake shaft, must be filled with 98th gasoline. Most of all cars with a 2.0 TSI engine, after a while they start to eat oil, this is more noticeable on cars produced before restyling - 0.7 liters per 1000 km. run. There are several reasons - the seal of the camshaft position sensor starts to snot. After restyling, this problem was fixed.

But the real reason for oil consumption is oil scraper piston rings and poor valve efficiency in the crankcase ventilation system. On cars manufactured after 2011, the design of valves, rings, seals was improved, the program in the ECU was improved, after all these innovations, oil consumption decreased by 2 times, but still remained.

But there are also diesel engines, they are installed on 20% of cars, these engines cause less problems for their owners - they don’t eat oil, there is no chain. The only thing, from driving around the city at low speed and when driving for short distances, can after about 70,000 km. require intervention of the EGR valve, a new one costs 150 euros.

You also need to monitor the quality of diesel fuel, here the high-pressure fuel pump is already more expensive - 1000 euros. But in general, the motor is reliable, but sometimes it happens that after 100,000 km. mileage require replacement of the injector seals, they are inexpensive - 15 euros per set, but you also need to add the cost of work here. There are still cases that after 180,000 km. the damper in the intake tract begins to wedge, because the plastic gear in its drive mechanism wears out by this run. To fix this, you will have to spend 150 euros.

If a situation happens when a diesel car after 150,000 km. run does not start very well, then you should immediately check the pressure reducing and delivery valves fuel system. And MOT should be done more than once every 15,000, as the officials recommend, but once every 10,000 km. In general, it is better to buy a Tiguan with diesel engine because it is much more reliable than gasoline engines.

Gearboxes

Gearboxes can be different - the DQ200 preselective with 2 dry clutches is robotic box gears, it is installed on cars with front-wheel drive and a 1.4 TSI engine, whose power is 150 hp. with. In Europe, this box can also be found on Tiguans with a 1.8 TSI engine. On cars manufactured after 2011, this box has already begun to break down less, and after 2012 it had a serious upgrade and there were almost no problems with it.

After 2011, both 6 and 7-speed DQ250 and DQ500 robots appeared, they were installed on all-wheel drive vehicles with 1.4 and 2.0 engines. The weak point in these boxes is the mechatronic hydraulic control unit. A new such unit is not cheap - more than 2,000 euros, therefore, in order for it to serve longer, it is necessary every 80,000 km. change the oil in the box. Here comes the ATF DSG.

The most popular transmission is the 6-speed automatic, it costs about 60% of cars. This box is Aisin Warner TF-60/61SN series, jointly developed in 2003 by Japanese and German engineers. For front-wheel drive Tiguans, this box is 09G, and for all-wheel drive - 09M. There are no problems with the box, you just need to monitor the purity of the oil and its quality. Officially, the oil in the box does not need to be changed, but it is better to do this every 80,000 km., Then the hydraulic control unit will last longer. If freezes or shocks appear during switching, then this is a clear sign that it is time to change the oil in the box. Also, do not forget to diesel vehicles keep an eye on the radiator in the gearbox, because sometimes it happens that leaks appear.

But the 6-speed is considered the most reliable mechanical box gears and no matter what engine it works with. The only thing that can happen to her is oil seals to leak after about 80,000 km. The clutch is enough for about 140,000 km, a new set will cost about 400 euros. It happens that on the same run the clarity disappears during switching, then you need to check the switching mechanism, it is possible that it has worn out, its replacement will cost 200 euros. On all-wheel drive vehicles, do not forget to change the oil in the Haldex coupling, then the pump will last longer and the four-wheel drive will be in working condition. An oil change should be done every 60,000 km.

Suspension and chassis

The electric power steering on cars before restyling could simply turn off while driving. Therefore, engineers in 2009 reflashed the control unit of the electric booster. But despite this, there were often cases when the steering assembly was changed on cars manufactured before 2011 still under warranty after 30,000 km.

It’s better not to drive off-road on a Tiguan, despite the short overhangs, because the suspension is not particularly designed for this purpose. Approximately 100,000 km. stabilizer bushings fail, but before that, they can just creak for a long time. Replacement bushings with stabilizer will cost 140 euros. Approximately 70,000 km. fail:

  • wheel bearings, which are assembled with a hub, cost 130 euros each;
  • support bearings on the front pillars, which cost 50 euros each;
  • silent blocks of front levers (30 euros each).

Nine modifications of the Tiguan are available for our market - from the most modest front-wheel drive with a 125-horsepower engine and mechanics to a relatively powerful 220-horsepower with a system all-wheel drive 4 MOTION . We opted for the golden mean - 180 hp, four-wheel drive and a DSG robot.

New generation crossover as we said earlier, they were hoisted onto the ubiquitous MQB modular platform. Almost all models of the concern are built on it - from the folk Polo to the Passat. "Corporate" in Tiguan and exterior design, during the development of which they used exclusively compasses and a ruler. And this is only good for Tiguan - the car has matured. But isn't the front overhang too long? Measurements confirmed our fears - the angle of entry is only 19.5º. Not enough! However, if you intend to regularly move off the pavement, you can order an optional off-road package. It implies a front bumper of a different shape - with such an angle of entry is larger. Ground clearance turned out to be surprisingly modest: only 175 mm under the mandatory engine protection.

However, while driving a Tiguan, you immediately forget about everything, including what you just found fault with. Salon is impeccable from an ergonomic point of view. I can see how the designers redrawn the interior thousands and thousands of times until the arrangement of all elements reached a mathematically verified harmony. There is a persistent feeling that all this was created specifically for me. It was me who tried to please the ergonomists. I won't be surprised if any Tiguan driver admits this. It's cozy and everything is intuitive. The case when the manual will remain lying around in the glove box as unnecessary.

The feeling of an “old acquaintance” is reinforced by familiar all-Volkswagen elements: a comfortable steering wheel, a display with painted instruments. Tiguan captivates with its creators' keen attention to detail and a long list of options: here you have three-zone climate control, comfortable tables for rear passengers, and a 230 V socket. Yes, you have to pay for all the pleasures. But competitors will not offer this in principle.

Ideal car? Not really. Behind the strength of the Tiguan, there are some shortcomings. Assertive acceleration and refined reactions to the driver's control actions are taken for granted. And if he shows weakness in at least something, it not only hurts the eye, but literally blinds.

It's not about the harsh suspension on trifles, typical for cars DM- especially with potholes of medium and large caliber Tiguan copes confidently. But the nervousness in the behavior of the crossover on the longitudinal ruts and the sensitivity to the side wind upset. Perhaps, on another car, I would not have paid attention to this. But the MQB platform is in a completely different coordinate system. Volkswagen stands perfectly on the arc, the settings of the electric power steering were also pleased.

A similar story with soundproofing. wheel arches and engine compartment superbly protected. And against this background, a light breeze that appears in the windshield area after 100 km / h is perceived as a hurricane. By the way, Tiguan owes good sound insulation to the requirements of Russian adaptation, because it is thanks to them that the doors received additional seals.

But there are no complaints about the duet of the engine and box. “Smeared” over a wide range of revolutions, the torque shelf provides a smooth, but very confident acceleration. And the DSG preselective, with some kind of sixth sense, foreseeing my desires, chooses in time desired gear. Effective brakes with an informative drive no less confidently upset the car. That's just the pedal is a bit high relative to the accelerator. But this is perhaps the only remark.

I almost forgot about the nameplate 4 MOTION on the fifth door. The transmission of our Tiguan is fundamentally no different from the all-wheel drive scheme of direct competitors. The only caveat: for the connection rear wheels answers fifth generation Haldex coupling. And this, as our experience shows, is quite a trump card, because it is difficult to overheat it. By the way, the new Tiguan also has the ability to select driving modes. Off-road electronics allow significant wheel slip.

And indeed, on the muddy primer, Volkswagen feels very confident. The preloaded clutch ensures that the rear wheels are instantly connected before the front wheels have time to dig in. Off-road potential is limited only by the capabilities of road tires and not the most outstanding geometric cross-country ability, which we have already scolded. And the Tiguan also has modest suspension moves - diagonal hanging occurs earlier than we would like.

And what about our branded rollers, with which we simulate a slippery surface under one or more drive wheels? In this way, the operation of the electronics controlling the torque distribution can be checked. When the front wheels were trapped, Tiguan overcame the rollers effortlessly, almost without letting the front wheels spin. And he coped with the diagonal arrangement of the rollers, but not immediately. In auto mode, Volkswagen skidded for a long time with “lost traction” wheels, but could not redistribute torque to the other two wheels. But it was worth switching to the “snow” mode, as the Tiguan quickly jumped off the diagonally spaced platforms. But when there is only one left on earth rear wheel, the Kaluga SUV still gave up. Nevertheless, against the background of classmates, the result is more than worthy. There is another plus: no matter how long the car slipped, there were no signs of transmission overheating.

I will not deny - I like the new Tiguan. But how much the car will cost is still an open question. The company intends to form competitive prices, but the second-generation car will definitely not be cheaper than its predecessor, which today costs from 1.2 million rubles. And it is unlikely that the new Tiguan will be cheaper than its main competitors: Mazda CX-5 and Kia Sportage. It is with them that we compared Volkswagen Tiguan in the December issue of the magazine "Behind the wheel".

Overview of the new VW Tiguan position: appearance models, interior, specifications, security systems, prices and configurations. At the end of the review - an introductory test drive of the new Tiguan!

Review content:

The history of the Tiguan model dates back to 2007 - it was then that the pre-production prototype of the model was first shown, and already in 2008 the crossover went on sale on the world market. In 2011, the Volkswagen auto concern made a small facelift of the model, but no radically new solutions were proposed by the company's designers and engineers.

VW Tiguan is a small urban crossover that combines the advantages of passenger car, as well as the cross-country ability and spaciousness of the SUV. The progenitor of the model can be safely considered the VW Golf II Country, which was produced in the period 1990-1991, but did not attract the due attention of the public. It is worth noting that the first generation Tiguan was sold in a fairly large circulation, but could not repeat the success of the models. Honda CR-V and Ford Kuga.

To turn the tide on the market, Volkswagen engineers and designers once again sat down to the drawings, as a result of which we got a completely new, more stylish and presentable car - the second generation Tiguan, on which the company has very high hopes. Let's make a reservation right away that the car really turned out to be worthy and can safely claim a place of honor among compact premium crossovers.

The exterior of the new Tiguan

In the exterior of the new Volkswagen Tiguan, the features of the previously demonstrated concept “Cross Coupe GTE” are clearly observed, the similarity is especially visible in the profile of the car, as well as in the shape and location of the rear optics. In comparison with its predecessor, the crossover received a more solid and even somewhat brutal appearance, vaguely reminiscent of last generation Touareg.

The car received a hood with several longitudinal "ribs", a more rigorous and stylish grille, updated LED optics, as well as an original bumper with low-lying foglights. The body profile has become smoother and more streamlined, but outwardly the car is perceived much more dynamic and sportier. The wheel arches lost their usual bulge and began to look an order of magnitude stricter and more elegant.

Volkswagen designers did not bypass the stern of the car, which received new LED optics, a redesigned door luggage compartment and sports diffuser.

Separately, it is worth noting that the car has slightly increased in size and its dimensions are now:
  • Length - 4486 mm (increased by 60 mm);
  • Width - 1839 mm (increased by 30 mm);
  • Height - 1670 mm (decreased by 33 mm);
  • Wheelbase - 2681 mm (increased by 77 mm).
According to the manufacturer, in the near future, a 7-seater version, as well as a 4-seater cross-coupe version, which will feature even more dynamic and swift body lines, should be added to the 5-seat Tiguan modification in the near future.

The interior of the updated Tiguan

The manufacturer notes that the new generation of the Tiguan crossover has received a more comfortable and spacious salon made possible by increasing the wheelbase of the car.

Even in the standard configuration, the model has acquired the ability to adjust the seats not only by inclination, but also by location, while the seat movement area is as much as 18 cm, which means that a person of any build can comfortably accommodate in the car.

Volkswagen engineers have radically revised the layout of the Tiguan's center console and dashboard, making the interior more presentable and stylish. What's more, the interior has become significantly brighter through the use of various shades of brown and plastic trims that mimic natural wood. Following the trend of fashion, chrome edging appeared on many interior details, which somewhat dilutes the classic severity and angularity of VW interiors.

Once in the car, the first thing you notice is the new dashboard, which is now digital and is represented by a huge 12.3-inch display, which displays all the information necessary for the driver. It is curious that the choice of the driver is available 5 options for its design.

Several Yet pleasant things- the appearance of a multifunctional steering wheel, from which you can control the main functions of the multimedia system and information displayed on the instrument panel, as well as replacing the handbrake handle with a button.

The center console received a new climate control unit, a new multimedia system equipped with a 12-inch touch screen, as well as new system vehicle operating modes. The manufacturer notes that the highest quality materials have traditionally been used to create the interior, and the assembly of each car goes through several stages of control.

In the standard seating arrangement in the cabin, the boot volume is 615 liters, which, if necessary, can be increased by folding the backrests of the second row of seats. Thanks to such manipulations, another 1040 liters of usable space are released, and the total volume of the luggage compartment increases to 1655 liters. At the same time, the manufacturer provided for the possibility of transporting a long length, for which you can additionally fold the right passenger seat.

In general, the interior of the new Tiguan has become not only more spacious and modern, but also adopted many solutions from its “brothers”, Golf models and Passat, which adds a few pluses to the overall feel and functionality of the interior.

Specifications of the new VW Tiguan

Probably one of the most good news for admirers of the VW automaker and the Tiguan model in particular, the fact that improved technical characteristics did not affect off-road performance in any way compact crossover. The ground clearance of the updated modification has increased by 11 mm and now stands at 200 mm, which, together with good overhangs, provides the car with good geometric cross-country ability. The novelty is equipped with a proprietary 4Motion all-wheel drive system, which includes several modes: Onroad, Snow, Offroad and Offroad Innodividual.

The line of power units of the updated Tiguan is represented by 7 engines: 4 petrol and 3 turbodiesels. Petrol versions are represented by a 1.2-liter engine with 120 and 150 hp, as well as a 2-liter unit with 170 and 200 hp. Diesel modifications represented by a 2-liter TDI with a capacity of 110 to 170 hp. At the choice of buyers, motors can be equipped with a 6-level mechanics or a modern 7-speed "automatic" with two clutches. The manufacturer emphasizes that in the basic version the car will be equipped only with front-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive system will be offered exclusively for a surcharge and only in more expensive trim levels.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 in the new VW Tiguan will take 8-10 seconds, depending on the modification power unit, while fuel consumption will vary from 5 to 14 liters. Representatives of the German automaker emphasize that their engineers managed to increase the efficiency of engines by 24%, which in all versions comply with Euro-6 standards.

Separately, it is worth noting that when creating the case, Volkswagen actively used composite materials, thanks to which it was possible to prevent an increase in the mass of the crossover, despite the fact that its dimensions have grown significantly.

Security

Traditionally, for VW models of the upper price segment, the manufacturer offers a wide range of equipment that significantly increases the passive and active safety car. So, among the innovations were the following driver assistance systems:
  • Front Assist- controlling the distance to the vehicle in front;
  • City Emergency Braking– technology of emergency braking and tracking the movement of pedestrians;
  • lane assist– exercising control over the change of lane of the vehicle;
  • Multicollision Brake- providing more frisky emergency braking of the car.
In addition, the car will offer front and side airbags, a system of all-round visibility and monitoring of the "dead" zones of the crossover, as well as modern cruise control. And this is not to mention the obligatory anti-lock braking and stabilization systems.

As it should be modern car, rear seats has ISOFIX fasteners, and the front has three-point belts with pretensioners and a load distribution system.

Price and configuration

Currently, representatives of Volkswagen have announced information about the following trim levels:
  1. Basic - Trend&Fun, the price of which starts at $16.4 thousand, includes:
    • Full power package;
    • Steering wheel adjustment in two planes;
    • 6 airbags;

    • Climate control;
    • multimedia system;
    • central locking;
    • Fog lights;
    • Automatically brake when the car stops on a slope;
    • Heated seats and mirrors.
  2. Track&Field(price from 21 thousand dollars) additionally offers:
    • Four-wheel drive;
    • automatic transmission;
    • Off-road package;
    • Wheel pressure sensors;
    • Wheels 16-diameter.
    This modification is positioned by the company as off-road.
  3. Sport&Style(price starts at $21.3 thousand), which adds:
    • Preheater;
    • Roof rails painted in silver;
    • Bi-xenon optics;
    • Driver fatigue monitoring system, 17-radius wheels.
  4. Track&Style– a package that combines the equipment of the Track&Field and Sport&Style packages, which adds a three-spoke sports steering wheel and the ability to start the motor with a button. The cost of such a configuration starts from 24.3 thousand dollars.
  5. R line- top equipment, assuming the presence of a forced 2-liter engine, sports bumpers and seats trimmed with Alcantara. The cost of the "hot" version is from 26.4 thousand dollars.
Summing up, it is worth noting that Volkswagen engineers and designers have done a serious job, thanks to which we have a completely new, more stylish and functional SUV that claims to be one of the most affordable and high-quality premium segment crossovers.
