  • a new sealing gum for the gearbox pan;
  • filter element of the transmission system (preferably changed as a set);
  • drain rubber;
  • a large syringe (construction or veterinary) with a hose.

Before starting the process, you should warm up the car so that the oil warms up well. It may take about an hour of driving with all transmission modes activated for the TM to pass through the entire system.

Then drive the car onto the overpass and wait a few minutes for the TM to cool down:

  1. Using a 5 hexagon, you need to unscrew the drain cap, so the first portion of the grease will come out.
  2. Using the same hexagon, you need to unscrew the filler plug and also drain the waste material (about 4 liters should come out).
  3. Then it is necessary to unscrew the screws of the gearbox pan and dismantle it. At the same time, be careful, because after removing it, TM will drip from everywhere.
  4. After that, it is necessary to clean the pan, and also pay attention to the magnets.
  5. Next, using wrenches, unscrew the screws that hold oil filter, then dismantle the element itself. If necessary, you need to change, but we recommend doing it in any case.
  6. Change the pan gasket and install it in place, after lubricating the gum with oil. After installing the pallet, mount the filler cap.
  7. Then we proceed to the most difficult aspects - the new TM must be poured into the box using a syringe with a tube. After that, the motor must be started and turned on in turn each mode of the box. On each mode, you need to stop for 2-3 minutes so that the TM can pass through the system.
  8. After that, the level is checked, consumable liquid is added if necessary. Screw the cork and ride on health.

Oil pressure on the piston compresses the friction discs and the clutch transmits torque up to 2400 Nm. An electric axial piston type pump, which is controlled by an electronic controller, is responsible for pumping oil. Operating pressure in the hydraulic system of the Haldex coupling is about 29 atmospheres. The system is equipped with a maintenance-free oil filter with check valve.

Note! If the Haldex clutch pump fails, the oil pressure in the system disappears and the transmission of torque to the rear wheels.

Transmission fluids for Volkswagen Tiguan

For automatic transmission AISIN 09M, the manufacturer recommends the use of working fluid ATF ( Automatictransmission fluid) G 055 025 standard. The grease has a high fluidity and a characteristic red color.

Fans of saving on analogues should remember that, unlike standard gear oils 70W-80, 80W-90, in automatic transmissions, the lubricant must remain fluid at any temperature up to 120 degrees. Therefore, the SAE viscosity classification does not apply to ATF fluids.

Automatic transmission capacity at the first factory filling is 7 liters. When replacing, about 5 liters of gear lubricant will be required, since the remaining 2 liters of oil are distributed along the lines, cooler cavities and the internal volume of the gearbox and cannot be drained without complete dismantling and disassembly of the assembly.

Haldex is poured into the all-wheel drive clutch mineral gear oil VAG G055 175 A2. The volume of the system is 720 ml.

Changing the oil in an automatic transmission

Many manuals indicate that the transmission oil in the Volkswagen Tiguan automatic transmission, filled in at the factory, retains its performance characteristics throughout the life of the vehicle. However, in practice, it is recommended to replace the lubricant in the gearbox every 60 thousand kilometers due to the difficult operating conditions of the mechanism.

To change the oil in a Tiguan automatic transmission with your own hands, you will need the following consumables:

  • transmission lubricant ATF of the appropriate approval;
  • oil filter (code 09M 325 429);
  • gearbox pan gasket (code 09M 321 370A);
  • sealing ring of the drain plug (code 09D 321 181B);
  • oil drain container;
  • rag.

Also, for work, you will need a device for pumping transmission fluid.

For a successful replacement, the oil in the Tiguan automatic transmission must be warm. To do this, you need to travel for at least an hour in various modes. After warming up the lubricant, the car is installed on a viewing hole, overpass or hung out on a lift.

To access the gearbox, the engine protection and gearbox mudguard are removed. The box tray and adjacent surfaces are cleaned of dust and dirt. To drain the old gear lubricant, you need to unscrew it with a No. 5 hex wrench drain plug.

A warning! Gear oil flows out of the gearbox opening in a spiral jet, so it is recommended to use a funnel to collect the oil right size to avoid spilling liquid and contaminating clothing and work area.

After about one liter of oil has drained, you need to unscrew the overflow pipe using a hexagon to ensure further leakage of lubricant.

When the transmission lubricant leak stops (the total volume of the drained fluid will be about 4 liters), the drain plug is put in place, and the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan are unscrewed with a 10 key.

Remains of grease are drained from the dismantled pan, the inner surface is thoroughly wiped dry with a rag, and metal particles resulting from wear of the box parts are removed from the magnets. Then the oil filter with a protective mesh is disconnected from the valve body.

Information! In most cases, automatic transmission breakdowns are not caused by a deterioration in the properties of the transmission lubricant, but by washing out solid metal particles into the box mechanism that were not removed from the pallet magnets in time.

A new filter and a pan with a fresh gasket are installed in a regular place. Before installation, it is recommended to pre-lubricate the oil filter seals and the pan gasket with gear oil.

Development of automatic transmission Tiguan after changing the lubricant

For even distribution lubricating fluid throughout the volume of the box must be provided operation of the automatic transmission in all modes for several minutes. After this procedure, the ATF level should be checked.

On a running car, when the ATF temperature indicator reaches a value in the range from 35 to 45 degrees, the oil level control plug in the automatic transmission is unscrewed. With a sufficient level of lubrication, about 300 grams of oil will drain from the bypass tube. After that, the control hole is twisted with a plug with a new sealing ring. If gear lubricant does not leak from control hole, then topping up the oil in the gearbox is required.

After completion of the operation, the surfaces of the parts are cleaned of oil residues, and the connections are checked for leaks.

Changing the oil in the Haldex all-wheel drive clutch

According to the recommendations of the VAG concern for the Haldex coupling, oil changes should be carried out in the range of 40,000-60,000 kilometers, depending on the frequency and intensity of use of the all-wheel drive. For machines with low annual mileage, it is recommended to change the lubricant in the clutch every 12 months.

4th generation Haldex

For self replacement transmission oil in the Volkswagen Tiguan all-wheel drive clutch, the following tools and materials will be required:

  • container for draining liquid;
  • set of wrenches;
  • pliers;
  • a medical syringe for 100 cubes and a flexible tube of a suitable diameter;
  • new oil for the Haldex coupling;
  • oil filter 31325173;
  • rags;
  • gloves and goggles.

Work is carried out on a flyover, a viewing hole or on a car lift. To carry out an oil change, the machine must be installed strictly horizontally.

To preheat the old oil to facilitate the draining process, you should operate the car in all-wheel drive mode. Before removing the used fluid from the coupling, unscrew the two fixing bolts, remove the fine filter cover, pull out the plastic gasket with pliers and dismantle the filter element.

Advice! You can briefly start and immediately turn off the engine so that the filter with the gasket is squeezed out of the seat by oil pressure.

Then the drain plug of the clutch is turned out, and the transmission fluid is drained by gravity into a suitable container.

After the procedure is completed, the plug is screwed back into the Haldex coupling housing, and a new filter, previously lubricated with oil, is installed in the seat.

Also need make sure that there are no damages on the sealing rings, which are on a plastic gasket. Failed seals are replaced with new ones to prevent oil leakage. The assembled gasket is inserted into the coupling.

New oil is poured into the Haldex coupling using a syringe. To do this, instead of a needle, a flexible tube is put on, which is inserted into the filler hole. The procedure is carried out until grease begins to flow out of the hole. After a sufficient amount of gear oil has been filled in, the filler plug is screwed in, and the clutch housing is wiped dry with a rag.

Then a test drive is made, after which you should turn off the engine and make sure there are no leaks from under the plugs of the Haldex coupling. Turn out after 10-15 minutes filler plug to control the level of lubrication. If the liquid flows out, then the level is sufficient. If necessary, gear lubricant is added to Haldex. After checking, the plug is put in place, oil leaks are removed with rags. This completes the procedure.

5th generation Haldex

The sequence of work on changing the oil in the fifth generation Haldex is similar to that described above with one exception. As a result of the current trend to reduce the size and weight of automotive units, the control solenoid valve has been removed from the design of the all-wheel drive clutch. Respectively Haldex 5 does not have an oil filter fine cleaning. As a result, wear products (metal dust and chips) accumulate in the oil circulating through hydraulic system, and are highly likely to cause serious damage. What oil to pour and how much

It is unlikely that he will openly lie to you, advertising low-quality goods, because in this case he will lose a regular customer.

When you buy oil, choose a container that will contain a sufficient amount of transmission fluid. In particular, you need to have at least seven liters of it.

How to change the oil

Now that you already have oil, you can safely move on to the practical part of changing the oil in an automatic transmission. To make the process as efficient as possible, get into your Tiguan and ride it. Such a trip will allow the gearbox to warm up well. Accordingly, it will also warm up the oil inside the automatic transmission. Now steer your vehicle to the location where you have decided to carry out the replacement process. It's best to have a hole there. Park the vehicle and turn off the engine.

On the bottom of the box you will find a drain plug, you need to unscrew it.

Of course, this will work if you take a hex key. Please note that immediately after this, it will begin to actively flow oily liquid, so quickly substitute the prepared container under the jet. Wait a while for the oil to actively drain. In general, you will be able to collect up to four liters of mining.

You also need to remove the pan, which will also contain some of the used transmission fluid.

Clean the tray, wash it, wipe it and the magnets with lint-free paper. Do not allow any extra particles to remain on the magnets. Subsequently, such an oversight of yours can turn into a serious problem - the failure of the automatic transmission.

Do not just dismantle the oil filter, but ruthlessly say goodbye to it, and install a new one instead. The final step in all of this important process is an .

In order not to lose a drop of transmission fluid, we recommend that you use a funnel. In such a recess, the right amount of oil is needed, mainly up to 6.5 liters.

We remove the crankcase protection. We put a bucket or some other container under the automatic transmission drain hole.
Unscrew the plug with a 5 hexagon and wait until the oil stops flowing out.





We unscrew the bolts of the automatic transmission oil pan in a cross order and remove it together with the gasket. Because due to the design of the sump, all the oil does not drain out of it through the plug, then when removing it, be careful not to spill oil on yourself.



We clean the pan from oil residues and two magnets from wear products.


We install the oil filter (No. 09M325429), having previously lubricated its gaskets ATF oil(bolt tightening torque 11 Nm). If the filter was removed and installed in place of the old one, then inspect its gaskets; if they are detached or damaged, the filter must be replaced.

We install the pallet with the gasket and wrap the bolts of its fastening in a cross order (bolt tightening torque 7 Nm). If the gasket needs to be replaced it is #09M321370A.

Screw in the overflow pipe (tightening torque 2 Nm).

For refueling, I used a piece of Audi brake hose and a car syringe. You can use a hose for a sanitary faucet with an M10x1 thread or something else suitable. Instead of a syringe, you can also use something else, people here offered options.


We screw a piece of brake hose into the automatic transmission pan, shake the canister with ATF oil and fill the syringe. We connect the hose of the syringe to the trim of the brake hose and start refueling the automatic transmission, periodically filling the syringe with a new portion of oil as necessary. In total, fill in 3 liters of ATF. After that, we unscrew the piece of the brake hose and screw the plug with the old sealing ring into the automatic transmission pan.


We start the engine and switch the automatic transmission selector through all positions, holding in each position for about 10 seconds. We set the lever in position P, connect the vag-com, go to the 02 block, select the measuring units, enter the channel number 006 and watch the ATF temperature. If the ATF temperature is in the range of 35-45 ° C (if not, you must wait until it warms up, or turn off the engine and wait until it cools down), then unscrew the automatic transmission oil pan plug. A small amount of oil will flow out of the overflow pipe, and if the oil continues to drip, then the level is normal, if not, then the oil must be topped up.

To do this, with the engine running, we again connect the syringe to the filler hole and fill in the oil (according to Elsa, it is recommended to fill in 1 liter at once). We disconnect the syringe and if the oil does not flow out of the hole, then we connect the syringe and continue refueling. If the oil flows out of the hole, then we wait until it flows out to drops (ie, we wait until the jet of the flowing oil turns into dripping oil from the hole). After that, we wrap the plug with a new sealing ring (No. 09D321181B), tightening torque 27 Nm. I got about 4 liters of oil, however, as always.
