2. It is recommended to change the oil in the automatic transmission every 30,000 - 40,000 km. The assurance of the plant that the oil in the AL4 is filled for the entire service life is not applicable to Russian operating conditions. At the same time, do not forget that for Renault cars it is recommended Elf Renaultmatic D3, and for Peugeot and Citroen Esso or Mobil LT71141. Unfortunately, the entire volume of oil (7 liters) cannot be replaced; when changing oil, about 3.5 - 4 liters of fresh oil are used. It is better to entrust an oil change to a professional service.

3. If errors occur in the automatic transmission, its transition to emergency mode, contact professional service and the sooner the better. Automatic transmission repair is not cheap, and the sooner the problem is identified and fixed, the less you will have to pay for possible consequences operating a vehicle with a defective unit. Typical AL4 malfunctions and how to eliminate them.

Causes: automatic transmission oil pressure spread between the given computer and the measured one (from 0.5 to 1.5 bar), caused by a malfunction of the pressure control solenoid valve in the valve body, low oil level in the automatic transmission, loosening of the valve body mounting bolts.

Treatment: mandatory check of the automatic transmission for leaks, with a long mileage, checking the condition of the heat exchanger, dismantling the valve body with the replacement of solenoid valves, pulling the valve body, changing the oil in the automatic transmission. With a large mileage and a large pressure spread, it is possible to completely disassemble the valve body, wash it, assemble and adjust it. After mechanical work is mandatory: loading new version Computer software, clearing memory from errors, initializing the computer and resetting the oil aging counter, checking the oil pressure in the automatic transmission selector position "D" and "R". For vehicles manufactured before 2004, the software must be checked for compatibility with the new type of solenoid valves. If the oil in the AL4 was heavily contaminated with wear products, we recommend that you visit the service after 1000 km of run to change the oil again and check the pressure in the valve body.

P0730 Clutch/brake slip. Not typical. Almost always occurs with an error P1167 "Pressure control error (set/measured) is not typical.

Symptoms: can occur both on a "cold" and on a warm automatic transmission. Accompanied by a blow to the automatic transmission and the transition to emergency mode with the display of the message "Gearbox Faulty" while driving. There may also be a sudden increase in speed without shifting gears (clutch slip effect).

Causes: failure of the solenoid valve for controlling the torque converter blocking, in combination with error P1167, failure of the solenoid valve for regulating pressure in the valve body, malfunction of the valve body. Vehicle operation is prohibited due to the possibility of breakage of the torque converter band brake.

Treatment: mandatory check of the automatic transmission for leaks, with a long mileage, checking the condition of the heat exchanger, dismantling the valve body with the replacement of solenoid valves, pulling the valve body, changing the oil in the automatic transmission. With a high mileage and a large pressure spread, it is possible to replace the valve body with a new one. After mechanical work, it is necessary to: download a new version of the computer software, clear the memory of errors, initialize the computer and reset the oil aging counter, check the oil pressure in the automatic transmission selector position "D" and "R". For vehicles manufactured before 2004, the software must be checked for compatibility with the new type of solenoid valves. If the oil in the AL4 was heavily contaminated with wear products, we recommend that you visit the service after 1000 km of run to change the oil again and check the pressure in the valve body.

Symptoms: when switching the automatic transmission selector, the position indicator does not appear on the display or the position indicator starts flashing, followed by the activation of the emergency mode and the display of the message "Gearbox Faulty". Causes: malfunction of the automatic transmission multifunction switch, incorrect adjustment of the switch or gear selection sector due to unskilled repair AL4, automatic transmission selector cable jumping out of the mounting bracket. There are few reasons for the occurrence of malfunctions of the switch itself: 1) a malfunction as a result of natural wear of the contact plate of the switch; 2) after too diligent washing of the engine (switch contacts simply burn out due to water getting inside) 3) switch defect due to factory defects.

Computer: pressure control error.
Cause: Inhomogeneity of cold oil. On small runs, the error occurs mainly due to the crookedly written software of the brains of the box and, as a result, the incorrect operation of the pressure control valves, on large runs, the wear of the mechanical part, the pressure control valve and the oil pump. The long-awaited software update for Russia was released in December 2008. All drivers with AL4 are advised to update the software and the error should be gone.
Indication: replacement of pressure control valves, for everything about 8000r. Then I stepped terribly and changed the working valve body of the officials, thanks to which I parted with 20,000 rubles instead of this money. Never change the valve block if the oil is clean and does not smell. Allegations that he could be "led" by temperature are nothing more than a myth. By the way, it's funny that the valve is not sold as a spare part on the Tuareg, so you have to pay 50 tons for replacing a practically working part.

Because in my case, the wear of the mechanical part was almost obvious, despite the stabilization of pressure after replacing the valve, the error surfaced again at 150 thousand km. There was no money for a bulkhead, so I waved the valves again. The pressure spread after replacement was greater than the allowable one, but less than the emergency operation threshold. However, twitching soon began when the first gear was engaged, slipping on an unheated box. Obviously, the brake burned out, disassembling the box with removal is required - the procedure is not cheap. Thanks to autostart, the problem was solved up to 160 thousand km. By this point, a 20-minute warm-up of the box was required, which is unacceptable for urban use.

So, on a run of 165 thousand km., Scrolling through the Internet on the topic of all sorts of charades, it was decided to repair at the MAI. Due to the New Year holidays and a week-long queue before the New Year, the repair took a month without two days.

And finally, the main rule for operating an automatic transmission in winter is at least a slight warm-up of the box before driving. Roughly speaking, 0-10 degrees - 30 seconds on drive or reverse, -10 - 0 - 2-4 minutes, less than -10 - preferably at least 5 minutes. All figures are based on a cold engine. Here, a slight advantage of the AL4 is that it does not have its own radiator, it shares a cooling system with the engine, so when the engine warms up, the oil is partially heated from the engine.
Of course, timely control of the oil level is very important, because due to low pressure not only can friction elements come out faster, but because of oil starvation, the planetarium will quickly crumble, and this is completely different money. Well, it is generally recommended not to bust much in winter, at least for the first 5 minutes of driving. To be honest, before the first replacement of the valves, I did not follow these rules, and for the last 10 thousand before the repair, on the contrary, I raped the box (repair anyway). As you can see from the invoice, this did not affect the cost of repairs.

I hope this ptso will give at least a small reason to doubt that there is no worse box than the AL4, and it’s also not worth pissing boiling water from it.

Despite the positive reviews and popularity of the transmission, AL4 automatic transmissions are inherent vulnerabilities. The problems observed in the mechanism, as a rule, occur in most boxes of this type.

  • A thud and jolts at start. Symptoms occur when you start moving without first warming up the box. The reason for this manifestation lies in the difference in oil pressure indicators. The data used by the computer to calculate the desired modes do not match with real characteristics. The reason is a malfunction of the pressure regulator in the valve plate. Besides, possible reason, insufficient level transmission fluid, and violation of the tightening torques of the bolts that secure the valve body.

To eliminate the defect, they check if oil is leaking in the AL4 automatic transmission, analyze the condition of the heat exchanger, replace the lubricant, remove the hydraulic unit and change the valves. The described problems are often encountered when operating the AL4 / DP0 gearbox. Malfunctions are characterized by an implicit manifestation, they can be observed at any time during the use of the box, regardless of the mileage.

Changing the transmission fluid in automatic transmission AL4

The Al4 variable gearbox is a reliable and trouble-free unit, provided that the mechanism is serviced in a timely manner. The transmission is demanding on the quality of the fluid and its level, so the oil change in the AL4 automatic transmission should be carried out regularly in compliance with all necessary rules and regulations.

Every 30,000 km it is necessary to check the level of transmission fluid in the box. If there are small smudges in the form of spots on the product, then the check is carried out daily so as not to miss the moment of large oil losses. In any case, in the AL4 automatic transmission, the oil is changed once every 40,000-60,000 km, depending on the operating conditions and the load on the box. Steps for replacing the transmission fluid of the AL4 box:

We drain the waste liquid:

  • We warm up to operating temperature;
  • We unscrew the control plug of the gearbox, after substituting the prepared container;
  • After draining part of the fluid from the gearbox, unscrew the main plug and drain all the fluid;
  • We dismantle the gearbox pan, wash it from impurities using washing liquid;
  • We change the filter element, put the pan with a new gasket in place;
  • We change the sealing ring of the plug, tighten the plug with a force of 2.5 Nm.

Filling with new transmission fluid:

  • We unscrew the plug of the gearbox to fill the liquid;
  • Using a filler funnel, fill the required amount of oil;
  • We install the plug in place, a force of 3.2 Nm.

Liquid filling control, pumping:

  • We start the power plant;
  • We warm up to a temperature of 60 ° C;
  • We translate the gear shift gate into possible modes, return to the parking mode "P";
  • We control the level of the filled fluid, top up if necessary, or drain the excess.
  • We close the control plug of the gearbox, a force of 2.5 Nm.

After replacing the transmission fluid, it is necessary to periodically check the level and possible leakage of fluid from the gearbox. When detected, it is necessary to urgently fix the problem, otherwise serious damage cannot be avoided.
