Volkswagen Tiguan new and old comparison. Comparison of Skoda Kodiaq and new Volkswagen Tiguan

Appeared in Russia Volkswagen Tiguan second generation. AT dealer centers an influx of people who want to take the new Tiguan for a test drive and understand from their own experience how good the new product is and how the second generation differs from the first. We managed to drive the new Tiguan for several days and test the car in urban and field conditions.

So, some notes and impressions about the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2017.

A bit of history and design.

First Volkswagen generation Tiguan was put into production in November 2007, and in the summer of 2011 the model was restyled. Tiguan is produced at factories in Wolfsburg, Germany and Kaluga, Russia.

The world premiere of the updated version of the best-selling Volkswagen Tiguan took place in Frankfurt in autumn 2016. For the Russian market, the new Tiguan has been produced since November 21, 2016 at the Volkswagen Group Rus plant in Kaluga.

In 2016 new Volkswagen Tiguan received the German Design Award for Best Automotive Design. The design team led by Klaus Bischoff successfully worked on the appearance. Klaus has been running the Volkswagen Design Center since 2006.

Compared to its predecessor, the new Tiguan has become visually longer, significantly wider and slightly lower. Gone are the rounded shapes, replaced by clean lines along the top of the front doors. It is these design elements that lengthen the body. This line also separates the upper part of the body with glass doors from the lower part, giving lightness and dynamism.

The second generation Volkswagen Tiguan looks modern. In stock - "cunning squint" headlights.

Additional decorative ribs also appeared on the hood, now there are four of them, giving the hood and the entire front of the car more “seriousness”.

One of the main design elements of any car is, of course, headlights. Modern LED headlight optics leave only a feeling of admiration, both in terms of design and technology.

At the rear, too, a new design line has appeared, emphasizing the increased width of the car. New LED lights in the shape of the letter " F» are quite memorable and should be well recognized in the flow.

The new Tiguan is noticeably taller and squarer at the rear.

In general, I agree that the new Tiguan received the design award for a reason.

New MQB platform and increased dimensions.

Volkswagen Tiguan is assembled on the MQB modular platform of the VAG concern.

For reference, this platform was demonstrated in 2012. It formed the basis of the Audi A3, VW Golf, Skoda Octavia and etc. Now it also produces a close relative of the Tiguana - Skoda Kodiaq.

I will bring geometric dimensions Tiguana on the MQB platform and changes compared to its predecessor:

Trunkincreased by 145 liters and became more comfortable.
The trunk has increased by 145 liters. and is 615 liters (when loaded up to rear seats). The main increase was due to the side niches - very convenient niches appeared on the sides of the trunk, where a 5-liter bottle of washer fluid or other items that no longer “fly” in the luggage compartment amazingly fit.

I note that the small trunk was one of the main disadvantages of Tiguana in comparison with competitors. At the moment, among classmates, only Kodiaq has a larger trunk.

Competitor trunk volumesTiguan:

Volkswagen Tiguan

It is also important to note that the place for storing tools in the trunk has changed - so in the old Tiguan the tool kit was in the side niche luggage compartment and the process of putting it back in its place after use required a lot of time and great nervous effort. Now the tools are in a polyurethane foam insert under the luggage compartment lid.

The tailgate of the new Tiguan rises significantly higher than in the previous model, and there is no longer a danger of hitting your head against it. Optionally, a “hands-free” trunk lid control system is also offered - a sensor is built into the bottom that detects the movement of the foot under the trunk and the tailgate rises.

LCD Instrument panel with various information display options
The instrument panel is liquid crystal. It displays all information about the state of the car and driver assistance systems. Information blocks are configured according to the wishes of the driver.

Available information blocks: off-road, environmental friendliness, consumption, speed and gears. For example, in off-road mode, the steering angle of the front wheels is displayed. A very handy feature. Even an experienced driver does not always understand what position the wheels are in.

On the dashboard screen there is a “body roll level” parameter, but for me it showed horizontal all the time, despite the descents and ascents of the hills. Perhaps I did not find how it turns on, or it's just a design element (props) and such a device would be very useful. Even for a crossover, understanding the maximum allowable roll is a useful thing.

The tilt of the instrument panel has a negative angle (the upper part is closer to the driver) and this gives a very unusual feeling. It is clear that this is done to eliminate the illumination of LCD devices. But until you get used to it, it's a little annoying.

There are a lot of small elements on the dashboard, and in some modes there are a lot of moving elements, again, out of habit, it seems to be variegated.

I would very much like to have several options for the types of dashboard - classic, modern, sports, etc. Some cars do this. And with an LCD panel, it is not difficult at all, but it can meet the needs of different customers. I know many people for whom the appearance of the dashboard was decisive in the final choice of a particular car. As they say, "the eyes are the mirror of the soul", so is the car dashboard, a place through which the driver looks inside his pet.

thoughtful washer windshield

Turning on the windshield washer occurs with a delay of about 1-2 seconds. It seems to me that this is a clear engineering flaw that has moved from the old Tiguan and clearly needs to be addressed. I don’t understand why you can’t put an additional valve and not wait 1.5 seconds of precious time for emergency windshield cleaning until the motor creates the necessary pressure. Most cars don't have this problem. But the speed of cleaning the windshield significantly affects safety.

Rear view camera on our roads.

Unfortunately, Russian conditions are not taken into account here. German engineers, apparently, did not have to travel on our roads in winter and spring. They can't know that instead of clearing the snow, they are spraying it with chemicals so that it melts and drains through the sewers.

Dirt on our roads is something terrible, especially in early spring. However, the last two years in St. Petersburg, the situation with dirt on the roads began to change for the better, especially in the center. But the Ring Road, WHSD and regional roads still "launder" a lot of money - first by producing dirt on the roads, and then laundering it.

It's good that there are parking sensors and they work, despite our dirt, clearly and accurately.

The rear-view mirrors have changed shape, repeating the body design style, and at first glance they are small, but I did not feel any discomfort while driving - everything is clearly visible. Unlike the previous model, dirt does not accumulate on the mirrors due to the aerodynamic turbulence of mud flows. This was a pleasant surprise.

Heated front windshield

In the test car, the option "heated front windshield" was installed. With all the usefulness of this option, especially in our snow and rain conditions, I want to note that the mesh of a thin “heating” coating is visible. This is especially unpleasant in the evening, when the headlights of oncoming cars are refracted on this grid and create glare.

Lack of accessible navigation.

I do not understand marketers offering cars for sale in St. Petersburg and Moscow in 2017 for almost 2 million rubles. no navigation. And it's not that I don't know the city, but the issue of traffic jams in our cities is quite acute and it is very effectively solved using navigation with traffic jams.

Nevertheless, you have to put an additional “device” on the windshield, pull wires, etc.

Additional options include a navigation system in the Navigation package and costs 119,500 rubles. This package also has "parking autopilot", "surround view system", "voice control", etc. For example, I can survive without these functions, but pay extra 120 tr for navigation. somehow not humane.

Salon and space for rear passengers.

There is a lot of space for second-row passengers. Looking at the distance to the driver's seat, I even thought that front seat moved close to the front. But no, it is adjusted to my height of 189 cm, and there is enough space behind it to fully extend my legs.

Spacious and comfortable interior

The "start / start" button "moved" from under the steering wheel to the lower part of the center console, next to the gear lever. Pretty comfortable place. A clear departure from the usual stereotypes in favor of practicality.

The glove compartment under the driver's seat is retractable. A very convenient storage place for various things for the driver is always at hand and does not interfere. Personally, it's always inconvenient for me to climb into the standard glove compartment near the passenger seat.

There is no electric seat even in the top configuration (only as an additional option)

The knee does not rest against the center console, ergonomic and comfortable.

Often for people with high stature it becomes a problem that the right leg rests on the center console - this is especially unpleasant on long trips - the leg just gets tired. The new Tiguan does not have this trouble - the driver's seat is comfortable and free.

How the new Tiguan drives

On the new platform, it was possible to remove the effect of vertical acceleration from the rear and small shaking on bumps inherent in short-wheelbase cars. Well managed, quickly responds to every action of the driver. Rides briskly and briskly.

The brakes turned out to be very sensitive - an early start of braking and a small brake pedal travel. These are the consequences of the installed box DSG gear. When the brake is pressed, a command is transmitted to the mechatronics - “disconnect the clutch” and, if the driver does not fully press the brake, slippage and rapid wear of the clutch occur. Apparently, in order to exclude this, the engineers made such a small stroke of the brake pedal. But you quickly get used to it, and it does not cause any inconvenience.

Off-road capability.

To be honest, when planning the test, I did not expect to move out onto bad roads. For me, the Tiguan is a peppy, frisky city car with the ability to cope with unremoved snow and country roads.

Looking for a location to shoot, I drove off the highway to the lake and decided to shoot there. Started to call in reverse on a steep hill with trampled snow without any thoughts to climb high. Indeed, after a slight rise, the wheels began to slip. I stopped and thought: “But there is an off-road mode!”. Turned it on and decided to try to climb further. And the machine crawled! The sound of the differential lock and torque distribution systems was heard. Easily drove to the top of the hill. And I decided: “why not try again?”.

Was pleasantly surprised by the patency and handling of the car. It crawls very confidently, the descent assistance systems work well and clearly. I drove a long distance along power lines in the footsteps of ATVs. I was very pleased with the behavior of the new Tiguan. At the same time, the short base and large overhang angles allow you to pass serious off-road obstacles, including turning around on a very narrow road with snow dumps on the sides.

New LED headlights.

Already on the previous version of the Tiguan, equipped with xenon headlights, the light was very worthy. Clear bright, adaptive. When turning the car, the beam of light turns in the direction of the turn (an additional option in the Lighting package).

The new Tiguan has LED headlights. I consider head lighting one of the most important means of ensuring the comfort and safety of the car. In the new Tiguan, the light turned out to be excellent. The photographs show a high degree of illumination at night.

Also, the headlights have an adaptive function, beam rotation in the direction of rotation. In addition to this, there is side lighting; when turning at low speed, an additional light source is switched on in the headlights, illuminating the side space. In Off-Road mode, this light turns on in two directions at once and provides good illumination of both the road in front and the maneuvering space on the sides.

And these headlights are “technologically” beautiful. And they are an important design element of the "face" of the car.

In the new Tiguan, the hood rises on shock absorbers and there is no need to substitute a “crutch”. It is much more convenient and this is an indicator of the class of the car.

FIRSTscope: the new Volkswagen Tiguan through the eyes of the owner
old crossover

The new Volkswagen Tiguan was expected in Russia. They waited with special trepidation, because its predecessor became a real bestseller in its segment! Even at pre-retirement age, Tiguan was in the TOP-10 C + class crossovers, noticeably yielding only to more affordable ones and slightly losing to more modern models. But after the update, everything has grown: the dimensions and interior space, the level of equipment and technology - and, of course, the price. Will I be sad for the predecessor, which fully justified its consumer properties? With this question, I got behind the wheel of a new Tiguan in Moscow and went on it to Chechnya.

I know firsthand how and why they used to buy Tiguan, because I own it myself. For three years, the whole family, we rolled 150,000 kilometers on it, and, believe me, these were very eventful years and distances. Together with us, he visited all the circuits where the stages of the Russian circuit racing series take place. He drove on dirt tracks and broken asphalt roads, in urban jungles and on wide highways.

Winter and summer, autumn and spring, Tiguan always takes us forward. In its modest trunk fit half a ton of cement and more than a cubic meter of firewood, it transported all sorts of construction and household nonsense, racing equipment - and sometimes I just slept in it, spreading a polyurethane foam mat and wrapping myself in a sleeping bag. In general, I think you have already understood that the test of the new Tiguan is a personal matter, even almost intimate.

And therefore, just sitting behind the wheel and loading all the necessary things, I immediately set off on a long journey - to the Chechen Republic, to the Groznaya Fortress highway. And the first feeling from the car that the owner of the old Tiguan has is some kind of gigantic newbie size! But very quickly you realize that this is just a feeling caused by its design.

In reality, the Volkswagen Tiguan has only grown 3cm wide, 6cm long and 3cm shorter. The changes are minimal and the visual impact is grandiose. Perception is influenced by the “angular” exterior style and “airy” interior. On a long journey, this creates additional comfort and a sense of confidence, but in the city, out of habit, it is a little uncomfortable. But, having got used to it, you maneuver on narrow streets as confidently as on your “native” Tiguan.

To help - a whole range of electronic assistants, starting with traditional ultrasonic sensors and cameras and ending with a parking assistant, which drives the car into an empty space both along and across. True, this option is more useful for novice drivers: the Tiguan itself does not always run the risk of climbing into the cracks where I managed to squeeze in.

But a large trunk is by no means a mirage. Its volume actually grew, confirming the feeling of increased size. This is especially noticeable when the backs of the second row seats are raised: 615 liters versus 470 for the progenitor! An additional 145 liters is a very nice bonus, and the difference will remain the same if you fold the rear seatbacks. But it seemed that since the wheelbase increased by a centimeter more than the length, then the entire increase would go to the rear passengers, and not the luggage. But the linkers found a compromise, adding a margin of space for riders and taking into account the comments of those who criticized the trunk of the old model.

This additional 7 centimeters between the axles, seasoned with a 43 kilogram curb weight reduction, changed the Tiguan's cornering behavior beyond recognition. On the one hand, now on a slippery road it turns less under the gas release - and for adrenaline lovers this is a minus. On the other hand, the car has become much more stable in any corners, whether it be gentle bends of highways or twisted serpentine loops. And this means that any driver - both a pseudo-racer forcing events and a novice who has gone too far with speed - is more likely to stay on the road.

So, we are going to Grozny, first cutting through the space along the M-4 Don highway, then turning onto the M-29 Kavkaz. And it could be two different stories for the driver of another car, but not a new Tiguan. It is absolutely indifferent to the surface under the wheels: on the long stretches of the newly built Don highway, adaptive cruise control comes to the rescue, and on narrow sections of old highways, if you need to overtake someone, the third generation 2.0 TSI engine and updated DSG-7 come into battle.

New power point features an even wider operating range - there is enough thrust always and everywhere. And already now it can be argued that this combination has become even more reliable in terms of resource, having proven itself well on other models of the concern. If you are worried, read our material about the DSG resource. Well, the economy is also at the proper level. For a trip to Chechnya and back, the average consumption was 7.1 l / 100 km, and even if we add a few days in Moscow traffic jams, the numbers are still optimistic: 8.6 l / 100 km in the combined cycle is a very worthy result. True, in a purely urban mode it was rarely possible to drop below 10, but let's remember that a two-liter turbo engine carries you and one and a half tons of the new Tiguan.

In regions remote from Moscow, the newcomer is of genuine interest. Quite often I was asked if it was a Touareg, but still, the vast majority of people recognized it as the successor to the past Tiguan. So I, getting used to the new forms a little, notice more and more kinship between the two generations. And one of the main joint skills is the unexpected talent of an urban crossover on surfaces that have nothing to do with the usual concept of “road”.

Therefore, I decided to call any direction marked by regular navigation a road. So I climbed the slope of the mountain, from where a gorgeous view of Pyatigorsk opened. So I drove through a small field, avoiding an accident near Rostov-on-Don. And if Volkswagen employees were not too lazy and drove along all these paths before filling them in the navigator, then the maps for the Tiguan and some Volkswagen Passat should be different: where the sedan is ordered to go, you can slip on the crossover!

After all, it was the standard navigation that took me to rocky slopes and muddy clay, but I never turned back. Although once I wanted to, but it was not possible to turn around in a deep rut - I had to jump out along the slope onto a normal road. At the same time, I appreciated the capabilities of the 4Motion Active Control system: even in the normal transmission mode, the Tiguan calmly copes with diagonal hanging and rows confidently in the mud, but before a difficult section, it’s still better to click the puck and select one of the off-road modes and clamp the center clutch.

But there's something about the new crossover that I don't like. Firstly, there are complaints about the smoothness of the ride: Tiguan does not notice long waves of asphalt at high speed, but reacts nervously to pits with sharp edges and speed bumps and makes riders bounce. Secondly, capacity fuel tank now 58 liters is 6 liters less than its predecessor. But this is an additional 60-80 km of power reserve, which can always come in handy on the track. Thirdly, the excessive optimism of the navigation system can sometimes drive an inexperienced driver into an impenetrable dead end.

All other quibbles are related to taste preferences. Pragmatic buyers will probably shy away from the chic panoramic roof, but I like to see the sky above my head. The electronic instrument panel is the prerogative of the expensive Highline equipment, but I am ready to pay extra for it in the younger versions in order to configure the “tidy” at my discretion. After all, here you can display everything you want - from fuel consumption to navigation. I also liked the convenient multimedia system that works great with Apple CarPlay. And leather seats with electric adjustments and memory are almost ideal: I only lacked lateral support on mountain roads, but on a long road my back never reminded me of myself.

Ample opportunities for transforming the salon is not just an advertising slogan. In all versions, except for the base one, Tiguan allows you not only to recline the backs of the rear sofa, but also to fold the front passenger seat flush with them. In the cabin, there are plenty of places to store small things, tables for rear passengers, a portable flashlight in the trunk and even a 230 V socket. In short, the car is packed for all occasions. And this is really a worthy successor to the old Tiguan, which will suit both an experienced driver and an absolute beginner.

I suspect that when creating a new model, German engineers drove old car into boxing and began to think: what can be improved in it? And after thousands of exclamations that began with the phrase "what if ...", the most important of them made an important decision: to improve everything! Then they methodically worked out every detail, and when everything was done, they gave it to a variety of drivers for a test. We collected their opinions and did all the work again so that the new “chips” would appeal to loyal customers.

As the owner of a previous generation Volkswagen Tiguan, I recognize the old car in everything. Everything is intuitively clear to me, and I didn’t have to get used to anything, although every little thing is done in a new way. Perhaps this is the German approach to creating a car. And on the example of the future leader of the crossover segment, I understand that it is worth it. When the time comes to change my Tiguan for something new, I will know for sure that a worthy replacement exists.

The new Tiguan, which displaced the first generation SUV from the assembly line of the Kaluga Volkswagen plant, has already managed to be the hero of ours and. But for a “fitting” instead of a car with a 2.0 TSI petrol turbo engine (180 hp), we took a Tiguan with a 2.0 TDI turbodiesel (150 hp): this version is estimated at at least 1 million 859 thousand rubles and is sold only with a “robot » DSG and all-wheel drive. And our crossover with an “off-road” bumper, an electric tailgate, a navigator, adaptive LED headlights and a blind spot monitoring assistant is noticeably more expensive: 2 million 305 thousand rubles.

Parking in a crowded area yard - torment: the parking sensors are straining a meter from the obstacle. And what is the use of all-round cameras in this situation? I trusted the side mirrors in the old fashioned way and almost drove into the corner of the house: when reversing, they distort the real picture.

Drive such a car along ideal roads, then drive into a spacious garage - and take another look to admire these clearly drawn lines. Both outside and inside, it consists of corners not wiped with an eraser and crystal-cut edges. Actually, in this I see the main difference from its predecessor - compact, comfortable, but not with such a verified appearance.

And in the management of the novice is just as accurate. But why is there so much information on the display? When at the gas station, in order to mark the mileage in the logbook, I needed the odometer data, I spent almost half an hour looking for it! I called as many as three colleagues - and only meticulous Sergey Znaemsky helped to get to the bottom of the desired number. I didn’t have the perseverance either to pair the iPhone or to build a route using the navigator.

I liked the landing of the driver and passengers, the tables in the second row are also good. And the only thing I really miss in this lined interior is warmth, but this has nothing to do with the flawless operation of climate control.

All reporters, roughly speaking, are divided into two types: there are those who have long been armed with a voice recorder and a tablet, and there are a handful of stubborn people who continue to harass notebooks. Among the latter, in turn, two types can also be distinguished: those who know how to put letters in a row, and those who ... In short, there is a stack of written notebooks in front of me on the table, and not one of them contains a page that I I could have read it myself the first time.

But there is a life hack - a notebook in a cage. The grid seems to be invisible, but it sets the order, reinforces the thought, disciplines the hand and makes life a little easier. Why am I? Yes, just Tiguan causes a very similar effect.

It seems to exist in the background - you go and do not notice. A boring crossover without outstanding charisma, but in fact Tiguan sets the very grid - the coordinate system - and structures consciousness.

He is faceless, but only in order not to be an eyesore. He is devoid of a bright character - but he is able to mirror the owner and enter into a special emotional resonance with him.

On a frosty morning, its cold appearance, business-like interior, precise steering and tight suspension set me up for work. In the evening, a taciturn diesel engine, an inert accelerator and a multi-stage “robot” also lower the “turns” of my own nervous system, and, no matter how I hurry, the speedometer needle in some incomprehensible way attracts to around 80. It turns out that it’s both faster and calmer.

The Tiguan is a fantasy concentration camp, but in an utterly fantastic way, it combines reference ergonomics, spacious interior, practical trunk, captivating handling, fearless suspension and generous comfort. In the Tiguan coordinate system, all these qualities are ordered, arranged in their cells and do not conflict with each other. Matrix car - not architecturally, but in essence.

In 2017, a new German volkswagen crossover Tiguan of the second generation, which has increased significantly in size compared to its predecessor. Note that the first generation Tiguan was in great demand in Russia due to its excellent handling, attractive design, good off-road capabilities due to the all-wheel drive system based on the Haldex clutch, as well as best-in-class cabin ergonomics. But the crossover also had its drawbacks, which include modest dimensions, a cramped interior, a small trunk and modest ground clearance.

Differences between the new 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan and the old one

Like any new car, the Tiguan has grown significantly in size compared to the previous version. Thanks to the MQB modular cross platform, engineers have been able to increase wheelbase, free space in the cabin and the volume of the luggage compartment.

New dimensions (predecessor dimensions):

  • Length - 4 486 mm (4 426 mm);
  • Width - 1,839 mm (1,809 mm);
  • Height - 1,673 mm (1,703 mm);
  • Wheelbase - 2677 mm (2604 mm).

Tiguan 2017 model year exceeds the old version by 73 mm in wheelbase length, 30 mm in width, 60 mm in length, the luggage compartment volume has increased by 145 liters (from 470 to 615 liters). It is also worth noting that the crossover will be available in a seven-seater version, although it is not yet known whether the seven-seater Tiguan will be sold in Russia. But in terms of height, the predecessor surpasses the novelty by 30 mm, but despite this, the cabin of the second generation is noticeably more spacious. As for the ground clearance, it has increased from 189 mm to 200 mm.

In terms of interior and exterior design, as you can see from the photos, the car received:

  • another grille;
  • new modern front and rear optics;
  • new front and rear bumper;
  • new design alloy wheels(215/65/R17, 235/55/R18, 235/50/R19, 235/45/R20);
  • more interesting body design with all kinds of stampings;
  • design of air duct deflectors;
  • different climate control;
  • new instrument panel;
  • new finishing materials and colors.

All these improvements have affected the price, unfortunately all new Volkswagen models can hardly be called a “people's car”, and the manufacturers themselves say that they are striving to get closer to premium brands. Now the title of “people's car” has migrated to Skoda cars.

Specifications

Engine

The second generation of the German crossover is presented on Russian market two petrol and one diesel power unit different power (for more information about the available motors and transmissions, you can read by clicking). For the review, we decided to take, in our opinion, the most optimal version with a 2.0 TSI with a power of 180 Horse power 320 Nm of torque.

Transmission

With a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine, a wet clutch DSG-7 is offered as a transmission. Immediately, we note that this checkpoint is, which is also installed on sports models Audi like RS 3 and RS Q3 and TT RS. The stock DQ500 is capable of withstanding 600 Nm of torque.

The most unreliable robot is considered to be a seven-speed DSG with a dry clutch DQ200 manufactured by LuK. This robotic transmission is capable of withstanding up to 250 Nm of torque and is installed on front-wheel drive cars of the VAG brand. Most of the complaints were caused by the first generation of transmissions installed on volkswagen passat. One of the main problems was the failure of mechatronics.

All-wheel drive system

The fifth-generation Haldex clutch is responsible for all-wheel drive, which, in the event of wheel slip, redistributes torque almost instantly. Recall that Tiguan has front-wheel drive, which can significantly save fuel consumption, and all-wheel drive is switched on only forcibly or automatically if necessary. What's more, the crossover perfectly demonstrates its 4MOTION capabilities on light off-road terrain, with Electronic Differential Lock (EDS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) acting as a lateral wheel lock.

All this allows you to disperse a car weighing 1,653 kg from 0 to 100 km / h. in 7.7 seconds, you must agree, good performance, not every sedan or hatchback will be able to demonstrate such an impressive acceleration from a standstill. The maximum speed of the Tiguan in this configuration is 210 km/h. Another impressive indicator is fuel consumption (AI-95);

  • urban cycle - 10.8 liters;
  • track - 6.4 liters;
  • mixed - 8 liters.

these indicators are declared by the manufacturer, for the most part fuel consumption depends on your driving style and traffic congestion.

Price in Russia

Potential owners will be offered two configurations to choose from:

comfort line

  • 2.0 180 HP 4motion - 1,909,000 rubles;

Highline

  • 2.0 180 HP 4motion - 2,069,000 rubles;

The difference between these two trim levels is that the richer one will include a tire pressure sensor, an electric trunk lid, an electrically heated windshield, a combined interior, door sills and R18 alloy wheels.

The main competitors of the second generation Tiguan in the Russian market can be considered such cars as:

Unlike all of the above competitors, with the exception of the crossover, the representative of the German school gives better handling, better dynamic performance and, most importantly, significantly lower fuel consumption.

What can be summed up, the second generation got rid of all the shortcomings of the first generation, became much more technologically advanced and as close as possible to premium segment. Unfortunately, all of these upgrades have significantly increased the cost of the car, let's see if the 2017 Tiguan can become the leader in the midsize crossover segment and show as strong sales as the previous generation.

A man in a winter hat with a visor, seeing the car, stirred his thick mustache. He did not even immediately notice the green traffic light, which finally allowed him to cross the road. Without hiding his curiosity, the pedestrian crossed carriageway, without taking his eyes off the crossover for a second. In the eyes of a man who looked about 50 years old, it was written "I want!". Belarusians love Volkswagen. Sincere love, which seems to be inherited. Belarus is one of the five countries in the world where the word “Volkswagen” is entered into search engines more often than other names automotive brands. Such close attention to deutsche mark originates in the 1990s, when Volkswagen fell in love with our fathers for reliability, unpretentiousness and low cost. Real people's car! But now everything has changed. It is unlikely that a mustachioed man who is interested in the new Tiguan suspects that the panoramic roof of this car costs about the same as the Golf II, the driver's seat has a bunch of electrical adjustments with memory, and instead of the dashboard there is a huge display with a better picture than your TV set at home . Onliner.by spent a day paired with a brand new crossover to find out how much the Tiguan has changed with the generation change.

In general, this car has been on sale in Europe for a long time - the official premiere of the Tiguan II took place in the fall of 2015. But the model is delivered to us not from Germany, but from Kaluga - hence the delay. In addition, the first Tiguan, after metamorphoses with the Russian ruble, became very attractive in price and sold relatively well. There was even talk of leaving the old generation on the assembly line and simultaneously releasing the new one. However, then everyone outplayed, and today you can buy a Tiguan from a Belarusian dealer only in the last "booth" - the first generation was completely sold out.

Prices for a new SUV range from 47 to 65 thousand rubles (24,700-34,150 dollars). This is not counting additional options. By the way, the price list does not yet include the R-Line package (pictured below), which is currently officially unavailable for the vehicle market. It is unlikely that he would be in demand, but keep in mind that on all advertising booklets the car is in a markedly different "er-package".

But even without sports "skirts" and giant wheels, the new Tiguan looks solid. The predecessor, whose design was created back in the days of the fifth Golf, has experienced several cardinal changes in the corporate style of the brand. The pre-styling Tiguan I with optics in the style of the Concept-R roadster (2003!) was criticized by many for being too “slick” and even femininity. Plastic surgery in 2011 slightly corrected the situation, but still, the brutal bearded man with the face of Conor McGregor looked ridiculous in the Tiguan. The second generation of the crossover seemed to have been sitting on anabolics for three years. Tiguan I was called "all-terrain Golf". Tiguan II can be called "all-terrain Passat".

Fully diode optics in front - the property of the most expensive versions

The rear lights have a cool 3D pattern. At night you will not confuse with any other model

Optional wheels Nizza "18. Design for an amateur

Behind the logo is an active cruise control radar

Mirrors are folded after closing the c / o. And they can also automatically adjust to the driver (the memory is synchronized with the seats)

A smooth horizontal "rib" passes through the entire body. It adds to the solidity of the car

With the B8, the novelty is related not only to the MQB trolley (it is also at the heart of the Golf) with a transverse engine, but also to the overall style of the exterior and interior. Head optics combined with a radiator grill, an abundance of horizontal lines, a solid and impetuous body silhouette, a “get rich” interior with a bunch of options and a virtual dashboard - there are more similarities with the Passat than parallels with the restyled Golf VII.

For a test, the dealer gave the top version of the Highline with a couple of additional options. Engine - 2-liter TSI with 180 hp. with. (sometimes even 220 hp), paired with a 7-speed DSG “robot” (this is a DQ500 box with “wet” clutches - the most hassle-free DSG). Among the "special stages" are 18-inch wheels, expensive leather seats, a panoramic roof, keyless entry to the salon, and more. etc. There is a car that you see in the photo, 37 thousand dollars at the rate. Like a "odnushka" without repair.

In the salon - the kingdom of Dracula. Almost all finishing materials are black. The front seats tenaciously hold riders, and the driver's seat is still equipped with electric adjustments, including adjustable lumbar support. The architecture of the front panel is logical in a Volkswagen way. Below is the “climate” control unit, access to which is not blocked by the gearshift lever. One floor above - a top-end multimedia system with an 8-inch display. Raise your finger - prompts are put forward in the lower menu. The beauty! Near the gearbox selector there is a washer for switching driving modes. Despite the fact that this top version, on the tunnel - three soulless plugs, hinting that it was possible to leave a couple of thousand more "y" at the dealer. e.". For a surcharge, these places will be occupied by the control keys of the “parking attendant”. The most useless thing in the universe.

The second row has become more spacious (affects increased by 77 mm base). In the center is a comfortable armrest. From the backs of the front seats, you can "protrude" tables with retractable cup holders. Already in the basic configuration for the rear passengers there is a separate climatic zone (and two in front). The rear sofa can be moved back and forth. It also changes the angle of the backrest, which allows you to increase the volume of the trunk.

Trunk volume is 615 liters (if the seats of the second row are moved forward as much as possible)

Folding the back row, we get a volume of 1655 liters

To fold the sofa, you just need to pull the lever

The fifth door is equipped with an electric drive with a lift angle limiter

By pressing a pleasant button, I start the engine, and the most noticeable option of the new Tiguan comes to life in the cabin - a virtual dashboard. Photographer, do not rush to buckle up, we will deal with this miracle! Didn't have to get instructions. First, I remember how to set up this 12.3-inch tablet from my Passat B8 test. Secondly, at Kaluga Tiguan not even half of those bells and whistles that were on the Passat, so the functionality of the virtual "cockpit" is very limited. The wow effect is caused only by the navigation mode, when the speedometer and tachometer decrease and move apart, giving way to the map. The roads of Belarus in regular navigation maps are still “classified”, so this display is of little use. Unless in the "Off-road" mode, you can observe the angle of rotation of the front wheels.

Noise isolation of the Tiguan II is not just improved compared to old model, and became five classes higher. Neither the sounds from under the hood, nor the "song" of the wheel arches bother. The engine, of course, is audible during active acceleration, but not so much as to cause discomfort. The "voice" of the motor, by the way, is so-so. Passport acceleration to hundreds - 7.7 seconds. Even too fast for a family crossover. The previous Tiguan with the same engine accelerated to 100 km / h 2 seconds longer. That's what "robot" means instead of the classic automatic transmission! DSG changes gears flawlessly, and if you do not look at the tachometer, then the moment of changing steps is imperceptible.

Although Tiguan is positioned as an urban crossover, all all-wheel drive versions of the model receive a 4Motion Active Control system, reminiscent of Terrain Response from Land Rover. It even switches in the same way - with a washer on the tunnel. Four-wheel drive connected with a fifth-generation Haldex multi-plate clutch, which spreads Newton meters even faster around the axles.

At the disposal of the driver - four modes: "Snow", "Road", "Off-road" and individual. You can also click on the suspension settings (by pressing the puck). There is no noticeable difference in the 4Motion Active Control profiles. "Snow" mode slightly dulls the gas, Offroad makes the "robot" hold the gear longer. Everything is configured individually. But the nature of the suspension can be changed between "hard" and "very hard". Fans of a smooth, imposing ride are unlikely to like the new Tiguan. Even in the "comfortable" mode, the fifth point you feel small asphalt joints and other irregularities. And if you translate the chassis into “sport”, you will even notice a collision with a 10-kopeck coin. Despite the Kaluga registration, it is still a European Volkswagen with a character tuned to driving on autobahns.

Many Russian colleagues reprimanded the new Tiguan for excessive "artificiality" of the steering. This trend seems to be irreversible, and new cars are getting further and further from the direct connection "driver - front axle". The electric motor that helps rotate the steering wheel can be reconfigured (along with the chassis), and the steering wheel will become more elastic. You can even change the number of turns. In any case, driving the car is easy: you get used to the effort on the steering wheel in 10 minutes and you can put the Tiguan rushing at speed into a long turn the first time without any steering and unnecessary body movements. There is no problem with quickly passing a snake or avoiding an unexpected obstacle. But there are also no emotions and the feeling that you yourself control the angle of rotation of the front wheels.

In general, Tiguan has become more mature, more solid and a little more expensive. This is the right urban crossover, stuffed with electronics and more like a device on wheels. If you look at the list of equipment available for this car, we will find a bunch of displays, assistants, assistants, radars, cameras ... It seems that soon all new cars will be shown not at car dealerships, but at electronics shows. But how many emotions do you get from your smartphone? And cars once gave the joy of driving. And this joy was not from a high-contrast picture on the dashboard or a 3-zone "climate", but from the feeling of the car. But Volkswagen is doing exactly what its customers want - producing modern high-tech models that can do much more than the first spaceships could.

Along with the generation change, the Tiguan also changed its target buyer. Already 30 Belarusians have left pre-orders for the car. According to representatives of dealers, these are middle-aged men. Although earlier Tiguan was bought either by women or older men. In the Volkswagen promo video, this crossover is driven by a brutal 35-year-old man with a tousled beard and Converse sneakers. A kind of aged hipster. It seems that this image indicates a typical buyer of new items. The main thing is that this hipster has 30 thousand dollars set aside. The basic version ($ 24.7 thousand), although equipped to the eyeballs, does not have the most serious 1.4 TSI, "mechanics" and front-wheel drive. There is also an excellent diesel option - 2.0 TDI (150 hp). By the way, it is with such an engine that Belarusians most often order a new Tiguan.

The importer hopes to take the leading position in the segment with Tiguan (competitors are Toyota RAV4, Nissan X-Trail, Mazda CX-5, Ford Kuga). We wish you good luck. Although this year a serious “movement” is planned in the SUV class: not so long ago, a new Ford Kuga arrived in Minsk, the second generation of the popular Mazda CX-5 SUV will soon debut, a Skoda dealer has already vacated a place in the showroom for Kodiaq. And the second one is coming Audi generation Q5, with which the prices of the top Tiguan will clearly intersect. In general, it will be hot in the crossover segment in 2017!
