At the same time, in order to preserve traditions and attract new customers, classic sedans are rolling off the assembly line. Automotive companies in the struggle for markets are undertaking the most different ways to improve the quality of their products. It is known that the Chevrolet AVEO T250 model appeared on the market as a result of the vigorous activity of the managers of General Motors.

At first, starting in 2002, consumers were offered the following vehicle options:

  • sedan with 4 doors;
  • hatchback with 5 doors;
  • hatchback with 3 doors.

It so happened that in different countries the car was produced under different brands. And only in 2005 did the Chevrolet AVEO t250 1.2 appear in Europe with a finally fixed name.

In the early years of its presence on the market, AVEO did not stand out from the cars in its class. Specifications and a modest 1.2-liter engine did not make the right impression on the target audience. This situation did not last long. Powerful creative forces from different countries were involved in updating the gray model, and the result exceeded all expectations.

For the basic configuration of the AVEO t250, a pair of airbags, air conditioning and a radio tape recorder were included. This was enough for AVEO to get into the top ten sold models. It should be noted that its price was less than ten thousand dollars. In the photo, the T250 sedan looks very attractive.

The first thing experts and consumers are in a hurry to note is the amount of clearance. For AVEO T250, it is 150 mm.

Depending on the configuration, gasoline engines with a volume of 1.2 to 1.8 liters are installed on the car. For lovers provided diesel engine 1.3 l. Chassis

Operating conditions

It has long been known that harsh climatic conditions require the driver to comply with certain rules when operating the machine. The AVEO is no exception in this respect. In summer, the t250 model does not need special care. The main thing:

  • refuel high-quality gasoline;
  • check the brake fluid level.

Young drivers should be reminded that tire pressure should be checked at least once a week.

In winter, it is necessary to protect the AVEO body from the ingress of aggressive liquids onto it. Washing the car at sub-zero temperatures is not recommended. Water procedures during the frosty period do not affect the technical characteristics, but the surface of the body is subjected to serious impacts. If possible, it is advisable to leave the car in a warm box at night. If the car remains in an open area, then before starting the morning, the engine must be heated with a special blower.

This car, known in the past, has a dozen names, but it is better known as Chevrolet Aveo. However, there are enough “aveators” among men as well. What is good about this car? Today we will talk about the body, interior, electrics and suspensions, and a little later - about engines and transmissions. Maybe then we will understand what this car is good for.

History of technology

The amazing combination of looks, practicality and low price of restyled models not only made it possible to break into the sales leaders in the class, but also showed all competitors that an elongated sedan based on a small hatchback has every chance of market success. And therefore, Polo Sedan, Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio and others followed the beaten track of Aveo, repeating the proportions of their predecessor with amazing accuracy. Well, Chevrolet itself of Asian origin migrated to Ukraine under the name ZAZ Vida, and then to Uzbekistan, first as a new Daewoo, and then Ravon Nexia. And despite the advanced age of the design by automotive standards, it can still be purchased new, albeit with a different set of power units.

The secret to success is quite simple. Actually, like the design of a masterpiece. In 2002, Daewoo Kalos saw the light in Korea. The name, so dissonant to our ears, was out of place in many places, so in most markets the car became known as Aveo.

But the development concept of the ItalDesign studio, which appeared in 2000, was called Kalos Dream, loosely translated from Greek-English - “Beautiful Dream”. The car was sold under different brands both in the USA and in Europe, and, of course, in Asia and Australia. Just look at the list of names under which she was known all over the world: Chevrolet Kalos, Chevrolet Lova, Chevrolet Nexia, Daewoo Gentra, Daewoo Kalos, Holden Barina (TK), Pontiac G 3, Pontiac G 3 Wave, Pontiac Wave, Ravon Nexia R 3 , Suzuki Swift+, ZAZ Vida. Do not be surprised at the presence of the name Gentra on the list: at first it was tried on for the youngest model, and until 2011 this car was called that in the domestic Uzbek market.

The main component of success was the simplicity and low cost of Aveo, and the second was compatibility with GM / Opel platforms and units. And the third, most important, was the design of the machine. It's not that no one has ever made simple cars before that, well suited for sales in any regions and with a wide range of units, but to make a small sedan look proportional and at the same time be quite comfortable inside ... This has never happened before. A slight increase in height and length compared to its predecessor, Daewoo Lanos, made it possible to make a qualitative leap.

Such a simple machine was great for localization. Aveo was produced in Poland, in Russia and even in Ukraine, at the ZAZ plant it was put on the conveyor under the name Vida. In Uzbekistan, the masterpiece of the world budget automotive industry met, of course, with the warmest welcome. The baby was well received in China, and in Canada (under the Pontiac brand), and in the USA. In the States, it also sold well, but already as "a real Chevrolet, a car of real Americans." Moreover, it was the smallest GM car in the USA, and it competed mainly with Fiesta, Fit and Yaris, receiving not the highest ratings, but, nevertheless, at a price of 11 thousand dollars, it was bought willingly.

You will not find design frills here. It's simple: MacPherson strut front, torsion beam rear. Motors and gearboxes - Opel-Holden design, compatible with many other GM models, a simple body made of thin steel, painted in bright colors. A simple and rather spacious interior and a radio tape recorder, painfully familiar to all owners of GM cars, after restyling. There are simply no technical breakthroughs here, everything is done as in dozens of other corporation machines, and in the cheapest version.

Driving performance is satisfactory, comfort is satisfactory, the cost of operation is satisfactory ... Poor and very poor configurations. Of course, the car was bought not because it was better than classmates, but because it had no competing sedans, and a sedan in many regions is still considered a more convenient option than a hatchback. Someone also bought hatchbacks, but it’s more difficult for me to come up with a motivation for such a purchase.

Buyers immediately knew that the car did not have much reliable suspension, motors before restyling with a bunch of small and not very problems, gearboxes do not last long, but they still did not refuse to buy. How the cars feel now, and what interesting things are happening to them - read below.


Body

The skepticism of most fans of more expensive cars towards the quality of the Korean assembly is easily broken when examining a ten-year-old car. Spots of corrosion are common, especially in the lower part of the doors and on the rear arches, less often on the surfaces of body elements and the edge of the hood, but in most cars after restyling, the damage is cosmetic. This is despite the fact that the outer body elements are made of surprisingly thin steel, and the power elements do not have a margin of safety. The same threshold amplifiers may not withstand installation on a “non-native” jack, and the roof racks can be dented by simply hitting hard with your hand.



Cars before restyling usually have the worst appearance and significantly faded paintwork. But the main problems with corrosion are almost the same: rear wheel arches and sills, albeit in a slightly more neglected form.

There are also more serious corrosion damage. Nevertheless, thin metal is more demanding to care for, and these machines were not especially taken care of. But given the price and age, the result can be considered acceptable, much more expensive cars at a similar age often sin with more serious problems.

Inspection upon purchase, of course, is required. The bottom and sills should be carefully checked for damage and associated corrosion, to check if the drainage drains of the cabin, trunk and over-engine niche are working. Pay special attention to the drainage of the trunk, it has a poor seal on top, and water enters it regularly. Not all owners bother with finalizing the seals of the lid and lanterns, and the water needs to be drained somewhere.

Do not be too lazy to climb into the fuel tank area with a flashlight, dirt can accumulate there. And where there is wet dirt, there is corrosion. From the inside of the cabin, this area is also worth examining carefully.

There are similar pockets for dirt at the junction of the motor shield and the front fender, they should also be carefully monitored and cleaned if necessary. Be sure to inspect the attachment areas of the suspension elements: weak metal of the body can crack on the support cups and at the attachment points of the beam rear suspension for lovers of primers.

In general, the machine is not very designed for rural areas, the suspension demonstrates this fact even more clearly. But I repeat: the surprisingly good quality of assembly and coloring allows us to hope for a decent condition of the body. If there are traces of sandblasting, but there is no corrosion yet, as often happens on the edge of the hood, on the thresholds behind the front wheels and on the rear arches, then I recommend not to postpone the matter for a long time, but to start painting immediately. With a damaged paintwork, the body does not last long.


Machines of the Kaliningrad assembly require special attention. They should check the condition of the welds on the side panel and rear shelf on sedans. If during the movement there is a metal rattle, then it is necessary to open and check. The treatment is inexpensive, but, as practice shows, the problem progresses and contributes to the destruction of the C-pillar seams. Corrosion on the roof in the middle part, creeping "from under" the windshield, may well be a manifestation of another funny factory problem - poor roof paint and condensation in the overhead space due to insufficient ventilation. Rusty streaks on the ceiling clearly indicate that the process is running. If corrosion has already crawled out from under the glass, then you will have to seriously repair the roof panel and front amplifier.

The headlights and windshield were out of luck. The blind headlights before restyling do not shine at all, and on cars after 2005 with a sedan body they shine, but not for long. The build quality of the optics leaves much to be desired. The reflector burns out, the glass is rubbed, and the mechanics of the headlight itself become loose over time, the correctors stop working and the light starts to tremble. Fog lights burst at the slightest sign of moisture on the glass.

The windshield is surprisingly soft, prone to both chafing and cracking. And on hatchbacks, take care of the rear glass, breaking it by inaccurately slamming the back door is not easy, but very simple.

Plastic parts of the body do not differ in durability, they easily lose fastenings with light blows, especially in winter, the paint does not adhere well to them. But on the other hand, and it’s hard to break them completely, thin plastic is plastic enough at any temperature.

It is much more unpleasant for most owners that door seals quickly lose their elasticity, and the driver's one is also disheveled at the bottom. And so the not-so-quiet car starts to sound like wind noise.

The doors here are generally an element of "increased troublesomeness". On machines with high mileage, the hinges begin to sag, but the door stops break literally after several years of operation. Locks and their system of microswitches also do not differ in reliability. Yes, and the locks are knocking ... Knocking trunk lid on sedans and backdoor on hatchbacks - also a typical thing. Many owners change aperture seals, put lanterns on the sealant and do similar “improvements”, but practice shows that this does not always help. The main thing is to keep the drainage in the back of the car in good condition and treat the spare wheel niche with anti-corrosion compounds in time.

Salon

The interior of the car is surprisingly spacious for the class and has a good design, but otherwise nothing good can be said about it. The seats are amorphous, prone to breakage of the adjustment mechanism under heavy drivers. The plastic panels creak and tinkle in every way, the climate control is not very effective, and the fan starts to howl even at runs over a hundred, or even completely rises. Most often, banal cleaning of the collector and replacement of brushes helps, but bearings also do not last forever.

The clarity of the manual transmission lever leaves much to be desired, the wings wear out quickly, and the cables also do not last long. Nothing globally will break here, and the salon itself of a reasonable owner looks the same at 50 thousand mileage and at 200, but in any case it does not look very good: both the quality of materials and the assembly affect.

What can break on its own? Anything, even the ignition lock is at risk, not to mention the glove box latches, visors and buttons. But everything is relatively inexpensive and easy to change.

A/C cars are a bit more of a hassle, the system is prone to leaks due to bad seals and poor piping.

Electrical and electronics

Simplicity has its benefits. Chevrolet Aveo electrical problems rarely appear and are most often solved easily and inexpensively.

The resource of the generator and the climate motor is insufficient, but they are maintainable, and their replacement is inexpensive. The radio tape recorders do not differ in quality, the CD drive laser gets dirty and the sound “floats”, but such multimedia systems were installed on most GM cars, and this can hardly be considered a claim specifically to Aveo.

Here is the fact that the radiator fan breaks the blades, and its motor burns out due to the contact of the blades with the radiator - this is a significant miscalculation in the mechanics of the radiator casing, but it is treated with washers. True, in addition to the failure of the motor, the wiring to the motor and the motor resistor may still burn, making a hole in the radiator ...

Quite often, the central locking is “buggy”. There are many reasons, from wiring doors on old cars to freezing “mikriks” in the doors. The system as a whole is not very reliable, and you just need to be prepared for surprises on its part.

The ignition lock at runs “under 200” begins to live its own life: the return spring may not work, which harms the starter, or the key may simply not turn due to wear on the lamellae. Otherwise, the wiring fails infrequently, and the most serious malfunctions for the functioning appear under the hood. The reason is not very durable sensors and modules and not very reliable corrugations, in which the wiring can be rubbed with sand.

Brakes, suspension and steering

The brake system is criticized both for "talkativeness" and for insufficient resource. Miniature brake discs in mountainous conditions are very prone to overheating. Not surprisingly, "upgrading" the system using components from the "big brother" Lacetti happens regularly.

A side effect of the weakness of the brakes was the frequent curvature of the discs and the short life of the brake hoses. With runs over a hundred thousand, they can be greatly inflated. Otherwise, you can only complain about the early wear of the "fingers" of the calipers and the need for high-quality and regular cleaning.

Rear brake mechanisms with drums they are quite reliable and do not present any special problems. But the fact that ABS was optional here should be noted separately. A car without an anti-lock braking system does not currently meet the minimum requirements for active safety, try to avoid such "barefoot" options. The hassle of having a system is at a minimum, occasionally the wiring to the front sensors fails due to unsuccessful laying, but the damage sites are well known in specialized services.

The suspension of the car, on the one hand, is almost “eternal”, and on the other hand, it does not work normally. Paradox? low quality original components will not allow you to enjoy perfect driving performance for a long time. Already after 30-40 thousand mileage, the car is a little “loose”, it creaks and taps a little, the hub bearings are already making noise, but weakly. But if you do not pay attention and drive, then nothing globally will break. Unless the stabilizer struts in front will knock hard.

The need for urgent replacement of wheel bearings will be prompted by their howl.

A considerable share of the negative causes steering. The rail starts tapping after the first fifty thousand runs, and by 150 thousand the backlash and tapping are already a little annoying. The reason lies both in the rail itself and in universal joints her drive. True, it flows little by little and rarely, small leaks on older cars are rather the rule, but 100-200 ml of fluid per year is not so scary, it’s cheaper to add than to repair. But breakdowns of the power steering pump and bursting high-pressure pipes can be called a more serious trouble and require an immediate solution. Experienced owners highly recommend not to keep the steering wheel on stops in winter and not to turn the steering wheel in the morning on the spot.

Chevrolet Aveo T250 is a restyling previous version, and not a new generation, as everyone thinks. Although visually it seems that this is a new generation, since there are many changes. Here are new motors, suspension characteristics have been changed and much more. Let's discuss everything in more detail.

Exterior

The appearance has changed quite well, a new hood with more prominent reliefs has appeared. Also in front are other headlights, they are larger in size, and the filling remained halogen. A small grille stands out with a huge amount of chrome, which visually makes the car more expensive. The massive and embossed bumper of the model has air intakes in the lower part. In that area there are round fog lights with a chrome surround and also a chrome horizontal line that connects to the optics.


The side of the sedan has surprisingly heavily swollen wheel arches, which cannot but rejoice, especially for a completely young audience. There is a stamping line approximately in the middle, and there is also a similar one at the top. The oval-shaped turn signal repeater is noticeable, but it is small.

At the back, a rather large optics with a good color scheme immediately attracts attention. The trunk lid pleases with the presence of a spoiler, as well as a slightly protruding line that matches the size of the turn signal on the optics. The massive bumper of the car will only please with a relief shape at the bottom.


The Chevrolet Aveo T250 sedan was mainly popular, but there was a 5-door 5D version and a 3-door 3D version. Since our country loves the sedan more, here are its dimensions:

In our country, only two engines were sold, but there are actually 3 of them in the line. Of course, they do not stand out with high power, but they are enough for ordinary city driving. Now let's discuss them in more detail.

  1. The first unit is a 1.2-liter 16-valve engine. It is, of course, atmospheric and produces 84 horsepower and 114 units of torque. With this engine, the sedan accelerates to the first hundred in 13 seconds, and the maximum speed is 170 km / h. Consumption in the region of 7 liters in the city and 5 liters on the highway.
  2. The second motor in the Chevrolet Aveo T250 line is the 1.4, which produces 101 horsepower and 131 H*m of torque. The dynamics have become better, namely 12 seconds to hundreds and 175 km / h top speed. Consumption is more - 8 liters in the city and also 5 liters on the highway.
  3. The 1.6-liter engine is the most powerful in the lineup. It is also atmospheric, but already produces 109 horses and 150 H * m of torque. Unfortunately, there is no data on how much it consumes and what dynamics it has, but most likely they do not differ much from the previous engine.

The suspension of the car is independent at the front, this is the well-known MacPherson strut, a semi-independent system is used at the rear - a beam. The car stops with the help of disc brakes in front, which have ventilation. Drum brakes are used at the rear. Gearboxes in the lineup are as follows - 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. The car is front wheel drive.

The quality of the interior of the Chevrolet Aveo T250, of course, is not at a high level, but all this is argued by the cost of the car. Armchairs with little lateral support and fabric lining. There is more or less enough space in the front, but there is very little in the back. The rear sofa, designed for three people, is not particularly comfortable and there is little legroom. For rear passengers, there is a cup holder on the tunnel, which is definitely a plus.

At the very top of the dashboard there is an electronic clock. The center console at its very beginning has round air deflectors. Below them is a head unit, which has many buttons and a small monitor, it displays information about the radio station or track being played. Block air conditioner looks good - a small monitor, two knobs and a number of buttons. At the very bottom there is an ashtray and a cigarette lighter.


The tunnel received a large niche for small things, a gear knob, and a parking brake handbrake. By the way, the glove compartment of the model is small, the documents fit with difficulty. The driver will get a 4-spoke wheel, which has a small number of buttons. The instrument panel received analog sensors for the speedometer, tachometer, fuel level and engine temperature. There is also an uninformative on-board computer.


Trunk Chevrolet models Aveo T250, unfortunately, does not allow you to increase its volume by folding the seats. Trunk volume is 400 liters, and in principle this is enough. By the way, this car was tested for safety by EuroNCAP, and there it received only 2 stars out of 5.

Price

The model can be purchased at secondary market if desired, and in principle, you should not pay attention to the equipment, since the differences between them are minimal. On average, for 250,000 rubles, you can buy this car and enjoy the purchase.


It is worth buying it or not, this is of course your decision and it depends only on you. It seems to us that there is very poor equipment and poor security. Therefore, we will not recommend it to you, but simply leave the final decision to you.

The final part of the celebration of Chevrolet's centenary was both the most everyday and the most interesting from a practical point of view. We had to test two hatchbacks at once, which will soon be released on Russian market. And both promise to become massive. We are talking about the new Aveo and the five-door Cruze.

Less is better. Chevrolet Aveo

Europeans often choose the Aveo as their second city car, and the limited number of doors doesn't scare them in the least. Much more important is style and appearance.

The child of globalization, the Chevrolet Aveo is selling so briskly that, in addition to the already produced sedan and five-door hatchback, it required another modification - a three-door one.

As Ilf and Petrov argued, statistics knows everything. She also knows everything about Chevrolet. For example, that this brand, after the purchase of Daewoo, has become one of the most rapidly developing in Europe. (growth for last year+34%), and in Russia (growth +53%). Or that Chevrolet cars were sold last year a little less than all other departments of the GM group managed to sell. Statistics tell us one more important thing - according to the results of sales for 2007, Chevrolet came out on top in our country and outstripped its eternal competitors - Ford, Toyota and Mitsubishi. True, in segment B (which includes about 45% of cars in Russia), Aveo plays a secondary role - over 26,000 copies were sold last year, which ensured it only 11th place in the class. Perhaps some recession for Aveo was quite explain the protracted update hatchbacks. But at the beginning of the year, a restyled five-door appeared. Now it's the turn of the three-door modification - for the first time in the history of the model. In Europe, where the Aveo makes up nearly a third of Chevrolet's sales, the arrival of the three-door is a milestone. Europeans often choose the Aveo as their second city car, and the limited number of doors doesn't scare them in the least. Much more important is style and appearance. And it looks updated version very good - she distanced herself as much as possible from her progenitor Daewoo Kalos and acquired an appearance with which Aveo easily stands on a par with one hundred percent European classmates.
