What kind of oil to fill in a Chevrolet Lanos. The best engine oil for Chevrolet (Daewoo) Lanos

So, dear readers. The time has come for us to discuss what kind of motor oil best suited for the pride of the Ukrainian automotive industry, people's car ZAZ LANOS, aka DAEWOO LANOS, aka DAEWOO CHANCE, aka CHEVROLET LANOS.
For the sake of objectivity, we will consider this small but proud bird under the microscope of the chronology of production in the world:

OPEL KADETT- indeed, the A15SMS 1 5 engine installed on DEO LANOS is a modified version of the G15MF 1.5 (installed on Daewoo Nexia before restyling), which, in turn, was copied from Opel engine C16NZ, designed in the distant 80s. For such Opel engines at one time recommended API SF / SG / SH class engine oil (one version each) and API SF / SE class (recommended in an older instruction manual).

The answer is unequivocal - yes, nothing will happen, but with the caveat "for how long" or "how long to ride it." After all, in the 70s there were no concepts of “extended oil change interval” and oils worked out much earlier than modern ones. It was from this era that the opinion came to us that if the oil has darkened, it needs to be changed urgently.
The especially savvy have probably already guessed that since the “old” version of the instruction recommends more outdated classes of oil, and the “new” version recommends more modern ones - then the more modern the oil, the better it is. And there is a grain of truth here. But our task now is not just to find out "which oil is the best in the universe", but to determine that golden mean between "MOST" and "UNREASONALLY EXPENSIVE", because of the owners of DEO LANOS you will not often meet a person who is ready to spend easy money on an oil change. At the same time, you need to figure out which product will BEST recommend itself in the price segment of the owner of “our hero”.

1.Original oil under the GM logo.

Since Daewoo LANOS is stuffed from head to toe with the logos of this brand, many rightly believe that original GM oil should be poured there. Incredible, but true - GM does not produce oil itself (otherwise, like other original oils). For him, the oil is made by the one who offers the most favorable price for a product that meets the requirements stated by the auto manufacturer. WHO ARE THEY? MANUFACTURERS? There are quite a lot of versions today: LUKOIL at factories in the Russian Federation, Turkey and Romania, the Blgian "WOLF" (before that Castrol, Elf, Delco). Both versions have a fairly weighty confirmation on the "oil forums" - from certificates to photographs of canisters indicating the manufacturer. But for sure, we only know what we can see with our own eyes (see photo).

Yes, yes, in Turkey, GM produces LUKOIL LUBRICANTS MIDDLE EAST MADENI YAĞ SAN. And all the Turks, by the way, with a population of 80 million people have been riding TURKISH GM for a long time (by the way, the fleet there is much fresher than ours, and there are more cars in general).

It also sounds quite plausible that the oil sold on the territory of Ukraine is, for the most part, the same Romanian LUKOIL plant, with the note "made in EU" on the canister.

2. Oils of "domestic" production.

Since our online store www.site is located in Ukraine, from personal observations I can state a fact - about half of the owners of a "people's" car in Ukraine, over time, switch to cheap oil, often of domestic production. There is nothing wrong with this, in general, but you should be careful and pay attention to the following when choosing domestic oil:
1) Viscosity index this product should be at a sufficiently high level. And this is due to the fact that not all so-called "semi-synthetics" are produced using "synthetic raw materials". Often manufacturers are cunning, and, in order to reduce the cost of the product, they replace the synthetic base with an unreasonably large amount of viscosity additives. At the same time, the oil does not become "synthetic" or "semi-synthetic" from this. So it turns out that you are buying, as it were, "semi-synthetics", but in fact it is a "mineral water" with a viscosity of 10w-40. Do not be too lazy to go to the manufacturer's website before buying oil and look at the plate with technical specifications. If the viscosity index in it is about 130 units, this is probably such a case. If the viscosity index is about 150 or more, then most likely you have a "real semi-synthetics", "synthetics", or a "synthetic" product in your hands. In other words: the higher the viscosity index, the higher the margin of safety!

2) API class- the higher - the better. Pay attention to the following: SN is better than SM, SM is better than SL, etc. descending - SN,SM,SL,SJ,SH,SG, SF (see above API picture). Accordingly, keep in mind for yourself that the SG class is a standard that was valid from 1989 to 1992, and SN appeared in 2011, and to this day there is nothing better than this class. Moreover, if API classes confirmed by the API itself (API - American Petroleum Institute or American Petroleum Institute) - generally excellent - it means that this oil at least corresponds to the class that is written on its canister. If the API does not know anything about it, then no matter what class is written on the canister, it means absolutely nothing, and there is NO confidence in the quality of this product (or under the guise of SN, for example, they sell you SG)! Judge for yourself, and CASTROL, and MOBIL, and SHELL, and TOTAL, and ELF, and LIQUI MOLY are certified by API classes, but some "pseudo-German" oil in a tin can is not. Draw your own conclusions. The easiest way to check this is directly on the API site - https://engineoil.api.org/Directory/EolcsSearch. Using the example in the photo below, you can make sure that the quality level of the requested product matches its description, officially verified by the American Petroleum Institute. By the way, LUKOIL oil has more than 70 such confirmations https://engineoil.api.org/Directory/EolcsProductResults?accountId=-1&brandName=lukoil

3. Viscosity

The optimal viscosity for our climate is SAE 5w-40 and 10w-40. But in general, AVTOSAZ, as you have already seen, regulates a fairly wide range (depending on climatic conditions). In the latest edition of the manual from ZAZ, these are 5w-40, 10w-40 and 15w-40 (according to one version of the manual, even 5w-30, although in fact there is no urgent need for such a "non-viscous" oil).

4. Availability of official approvals

Having official approvals from automakers is an added advantage. However, keep in mind that for the Lanos motor, there are no special requirements for tolerances from GM. Requirements, by the way, as well as API classes, can be checked online. It is advisable to do so. Since recently, manufacturers of the so-called "GERMAN OIL" have entered the market, bottled at the same domestic factories, posing as a "quality German brand". Read any permit on the canister and check its relevance with the data on the permit issuer's website. For example:
mercedes benz - https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/bevo-blaetter-sort1.html(select the required tolerance)
GM - www.centerforqa.com/dexos/ (select Dexos 1 or Dexos 2)
etc.

In 2012, on the basis of the "Melitopol Motor Plant" on the ZAZ SENS engine ( younger brother Lanos) MEMZ-307 Public Joint Stock Company "ZAZ" tested engine oil LUKOIL LUX API-SL 5w-40 (note even "semi-synthetic") to assess its quality and the possibility of use in production, according to the engine test method "FOR RELIABILITY". After this event, for the first filling in PJSC "ZAZ" when assembling a car ZAZ LANOS, ZAZ VID (clone Chevrolet Aveo), ZAZ FORZA, ZAZ SENS it was decided to use TM "LUKOIL" oil. And under the hood in these cars there was a sign "ZAZ recommends oil LUKOIL LUX".

Somehow, a few years ago, one notorious forum about oils caught my eye, from which I managed to borrow these photos:

Chevrolet Lanos is pretty budget car so this model is very popular. Many Chevrolet Lanos owners have a question: what kind of oil to fill in your car? First of all, it is recommended to read the manufacturer's recommendations. The efficiency of the engine will depend on the correct choice of lubricant.

The instructions for using Chevrolet and Deo Lanos cars indicate that Lubricants with the following quality classifications are allowed for use:

  • API SJ;
  • ACEA A1/A2/A3 and more.
  • Required viscosity:
  • SAE 10W-40;
  • SAE 5W-40;
  • SAE 15W-40 etc.

What is better for Lanos: synthetics or semi-synthetics?

Synthetic gear lubricants have improved performance characteristics. They can retain their qualities longer, are more resistant to temperature changes, have energy-saving properties, and perfectly protect the motor from wear.

Semi-synthetic transmission oils are a cross between synthetic and mineral based lubricants. If the temperature in winter in the area where the car is used does not fall below -25 degrees, then the use of synthetic oil only because of low-temperature viscosity is impractical. Do not pour synthetics into Lanos cars that have high mileage. Indeed, in this case, there is a risk of oil leakage.

Popular oils for cars Lanos

If you have not yet decided which oil to pour into Lanos, you can choose one of the above. All of them are great for use on Chevrolet and Deo Lanos cars.

Experts recommend changing motor fluid every 8-15 thousand kilometers. It can be said that for normal operation car will be enough to replace lubricating fluid once a year. But some Chevrolet Lanos owners do not agree with this opinion. They believe that it is worth changing the oil every 5-7 thousand kilometers.

In fact, the frequency of lubrication changes largely depends on the specific operating conditions of the machine, driving style and many other factors. But if too frequent replacement is required transmission fluid, then this may indicate its overspending. In this case, you can try to choose a different class of oil or another manufacturer. Do not save on the purchase of lubricants. After all, the life of the car engine depends on it.

It is allowed to use oils with API SJ or ACEA A1 / A2 / A3 quality classes and higher, as well as having a viscosity of SAE 5W-40, SAE 10W-40, SAE 15W-40, etc. There is also another parameter, such as engine manufacturer's tolerance .

For Chevrolet engine lanos is suitable for oils approved by Opel GM-LL-A-025. In services, GM 5W-30 Super Synthetic synthetic engine oil is usually used for filling. There are also several oils on the market with approved viscosity, quality class and certified Opel GM-LL-A-025.

These are the oils:
- ELF Excellium GM 5W-30
- ELF Evolution SXR 0W-30
- Mobil 1 New Life 0W-40
- Castrol EDGE SAE 0W-30
- Shell Helix Ultra AG SAE 5W-30
- GM 5W-30

Wolf Oil Certificate
To put it simply, the document says what exactly is poured into the canister with the inscription GM. So there is oil from the Total or Wolf Oil concern. Having looked at the products manufactured by Total, I found the oil whose name and comparison of the inscriptions with the inscriptions on the GM canister confirms that if in the Total (Elf) canister, then this is: ELF EXCELLIUM GM 5W-30. The manual also says about GM 10W-40 oil, you can find it in Total and Wolf in the same way - comparing their tolerances, viscosities and quality classes.

I am at 2000 km. filled Castrol 10W-40 (dviglo break-in should go as it should) at 10,000 changed to SHEL Ultra 5W-40 and at 20,000 also SHEL Ultra 5W-40 .... This is the best oil in my opinion.
- At TO-0 (2000 km.) I poured Mobil 1 0W-40 into the engine (I have been pouring since then). After the replacement, the car ran completely differently .... At TO-1, they added 100 grams of oil to the box (the master said that they often do not top up from the factory)
- Lew semi-synthetic shell 10w40. I think that this engine is not so modern to pour synthetics. I don't see the point in paying more. In addition, it does not affect.
- I read that it was planned to pour mineral water or semi-synthetics into our engine. The best - Dura Blend 10W40 - semi-synthetics.
- I have been using GM GENUINE 5W-30 oil for 3 years, but I still have doubts that this is not the right oil! Can change it?
- Usually every 8-15 thousand km. or at least once a year (the frequency depends on the operating conditions of the vehicle and the type of oil). Most motorists are thinking about whether it is necessary to change the viscosity or brand of oil. If the oil consumption for waste during the operation of the engine is not large, then it is better to continue pouring oil of the same brand and viscosity as now. If you constantly have to add oil and you are sure that its overexpenditure is due to the combustion of oil in the engine, then it is better to switch to a more viscous oil, and if it was also synthetic, then it is better to switch to semi-synthetics.
- Standard oil 5W-30 GM. This is the original oil that is poured in a good service during the grant period in Lanos. 10W-40 is the standard oil that everyone fills. If you do not want to order oil from a dealer, but it will not be much more expensive there

We often receive questions related to the choice of engine oil for DEU Lanos.
Car owners are looking for answers to basic questions:

  • What kind of oil to pour into Lanos?
  • Synthetics or semi-synthetics in Lanos fit better?
  • original oil for Lanos?

We will give you answers to these and other questions that will be relevant when choosing oil for Daewoo Lanos and Sens cars.

Manufacturer's recommendation for the use of oil in DEU engines
Depending on climatic conditions, the manufacturer recommends pouring oil with a viscosity of 5W-40, 10W-40 or 15W-40 into Lanos. The oil quality level in Lanos must comply with API SJ or ACEA A1 / A2 / A3.

What does the oil label say?

The engine oil manufacturer took care and produced oils for different climatic zones of the planet. The viscosity of the oil for Lanos is selected depending on the temperature conditions of operation. In the marking, the first digits (5W, 10W, 15W) indicate low temperature oil viscosity, at which the oil pump is able to pump through the system and supply oil to the working units, while preventing dry friction. Moreover, the engine cranking temperature is 5 degrees higher than the pumping temperature, i.e. if you were able to start the engine in the cold, then be sure that the oil is able to pump through all the oil channels and fully perform its functions.

SAE class Low temperature viscosity
Turning, t Pumpability, t

300C

-35 0 C
-25 0C -30 0 C
-20 0 C -25 0C

High temperature viscosity(5W 30 .10W 40 ) is a general indicator of the minimum and maximum viscosity of the oil at operating temperatures of 100C and 150C. The higher this number, the higher the viscosity of the engine oil at engine operating temperature. With self-selection of oil for Lanos, this indicator should not be higher than recommended by the manufacturer, otherwise this leads to an increase in load, a drop in power and increased engine wear!

Lanos oil quality
All produced oils are tested and receive quality certificates. The belonging of an oil to a certain class fully characterizes its properties and qualities.
Classification of oils for Lanos American Fuel Institute is marked - API SJ. This means that oils of this class have been developed for use in gasoline engines since 1996. Used in cars and sports cars, minibuses. They provide established standards and are serviced with the requirements of car manufacturers. They have additional requirements for operation at low temperatures and minimal carbon formation.
In Europe, there is a quality certification similar to the American standard - ACEA. In the European classification, the quality of oils for Lanos is set by quality A1 / A2 / A3, which provides for the possibility of using oils from standard to high quality.

Synthetic or semi-synthetic oil Is it better to pour into Lanos?
The manufacturer recommends using mineral, synthetic and semi-synthetic oils in Lanos. The fundamental difference between mineral and synthetic oil is in the special structure of the molecules that were created through synthesis.

Synthetic oils have improved properties:

  • retain their properties longer during operation
  • more resistant to overheating and changes in operating temperatures
  • are energy efficient
  • better protect the engine from wear
  • higher low temperature viscosity
  • longer service life

Semi-synthetic oil is intermediate between mineral and synthetic oil, both in terms of properties and in terms of the proportion of the main components.
If the winter temperature does not fall below -25C degrees, then the use of synthetic oils only because of the low-temperature viscosity is not advisable.
Not recommended for use synthetic oils in Lanos cars with increased mileage, when there is a possibility of oil loss and leakage.

Original oil for Lanos
The easiest and most correct way to choose oil for DEU Lanos lies in the direction of choosing the original oil recommended by the manufacturer.

IN DEU vehicles Lanos is equipped with Opel engines, which were developed and manufactured by General Motors. Designed specifically for these engines GM engine oil , which was poured on the assembly line. You can buy original GM oil in our online store. The second recommended for use in Lanos cars is Belgian WOLF oil. A feature of this oil is that it was developed jointly with GM and for GM vehicles. Corresponds to a high quality class for semi-synthetic oils. Oil WOLF 10w-40 can be bought in our online store.

What oils are poured into Lanos

The leaders in sales of oil for Lanos is Castrol Magnatec oil. In fairness, it should be noted that Castrol is more often used in DEU Sens cars. This is partly due to the presence of special molecules in the oil, which give additional protection to the engine, as well as good experience in higher-end cars. Castrol Magnatec oil from a German factory can be bought in our online store. Lanos enjoys stable demand among motor oils English oil COMMA . COMMA Eurolite is a premium oil manufactured at a factory in England. A feature of this oil is the absence of components recovered from used oil in the composition, which are officially added by many European manufacturers to reduce the cost of their products. COMMA oils are 100% virgin oils! Pour into many racing cars. You can buy COMMA oil in our online store.

Every owner of a car Lanos, Sens would like to recommend buying best oil, do not save on what prolongs the life of the motor. Check the oil level regularly. Change your oil in a timely manner. Do right purchases- choose the best.
