The qualitative composition of engine oil affects the resource, efficiency and overall operation of the engine. Therefore, when choosing a lubricant, it is worth considering not only its base (synthetic, semi-synthetic, mineral), but also the group, class, and also the viscosity of the liquid. This article describes the characteristics of the recommended engine oil for Mercedes-Benz E Class.

Mercedes-Benz E W124 S124 A124 C124 1984-1997

Model 1996 release

Gasoline motors

The manufacturer of the Mercedes Benz E Class car for engine lubrication systems 102 recommended the use of lubricants that meet the requirements of:

  • motor oil class G4 according to CCMC classification or SG according to API standards;
  • viscosity 10w-40 or 10w-50;
  • filling capacity is 5.5 liters.

For lubrication systems of motors 103 and 104 of Mercedes Benz E Class cars, according to the operating instructions for the car, it is recommended to fill in lubricants with a viscosity of 15w-40 or 15w-50. The capacity of the lubrication system is 7.0 liters. The difference between the maximum and minimum mark on the dipstick is 1.5 liters. It is recommended to replace the car oil by the car manufacturer every 10 thousand kilometers or 2 times a year. The approximate amount of lubricant that will be needed when replacing, taking into account oil filter is 6.0 liters (including 1.0 liters of oil in the filter).

The volume of engine oil required when replacing for other types of engines, taking into account the oil filter, is:

  • 5.8 l. for model 200;
  • 5.9 liters if model 230;
  • 6.5 liters for model 260 or 300;
  • 7.5 liters if the model is 280 or 320.

Diesel power units

It is recommended to fill in Mercedes Benz E Class motor oils that correspond to the CD oil type and have a viscosity of 15w-40 or 15w-50. The frequency of changing the lubricant is 10 thousand km. The difference between the maximum and minimum mark on the dipstick is 1.5 liters. The volume of engine oil required when replacing, taking into account the oil filter, is:

  • 6.5 liters if model 200;
  • 8.0 liters for 250 or 300 turbocharged models;
  • 7.0 liters if the model is 250 or 300 without turbocharging;

Model year 2001

Gasoline motors

  • according to CCMC-G4, CCMC-G5;
  • according to API classification - oil type SG;
  • in accordance with ACEA A2-96 or ACEA A3-96.

The selection of viscosity is based on the air temperature of the region in which the machine will be operated. All-weather motor oils with a viscosity of 15w-40 or 10w-40 are used in regions with a large temperature range. For regions with too low or high temperatures, it is worth choosing special motor oils designed for summer or winter. To select a lubricant for too hot or cold regions, you should contact your Mercedes Benz E Class dealer.

Volume motor fluid required when replacing, taking into account the oil filter is:

  • 5.5 liters for the E200 model;
  • 8.0 l for models E 240, E 280, E 430, E 320, E 280 4MATIC, E 320 4MATIC;
  • 8.5 l in the case of the E 430 4MATIC;
  • 7.5 liters if the equipment is E 55 AMG.

Diesel engines

The manufacturer Mercedes-Benz E Class recommends motor oils for its cars that meet the requirements of CCMC-D4, CCMC-D5 and CCMC-PD2. In the absence of the specified motor fluids, lubricants that comply with API CE or CF-4 can be used. The selection of viscosity is carried out taking into account the temperature outside the machine according to scheme 1.

Explanation of scheme 1:

  • SAE 30 is poured in the temperature range from +25 0 С to + 15 0 С;
  • SAE 40 is used if the temperature is above +25 0 С;
  • 5w-30 is poured if the temperature is below +5 0 С;
  • 5w-30 CCMC-G5 is poured at a temperature of less than +30 0 С;
  • 5w-40, 5w-50 is suitable for the temperature range from +30 0 C (or more) to -30 0 C (or less);
  • 10w-30 is poured in temperature conditions from +10 0 С to -20 0 С;
  • 10w-30 CCMC-G5 is used under temperature conditions of +30 0 С to -20 0 С;
  • 10w-40, 10w-50, 10w-60 are used if the temperature is over -20 0 С;
  • 15w-40, 15w-50 are used if the temperature is above -15 0 С;
  • 20w-40, 20w-50 are used if the temperature is above -5 0 C.

Short-term temperature changes are not taken into account when choosing the viscosity of the oil. Also in the manual, the manufacturer indicates that the maximum allowable lubricant consumption is 1.5 l / 1 thousand km.

The amount of lubricant required when replacing, taking into account the oil filter, is:

  • 6.0 l for E 200 CDI, E 220 CDI engines
  • 7.0 l for E 270 CDI engines;
  • 7.5 liters for E 320 CDI engines.

Mercedes-Benz E W211 S211 2002-2009 release

Model year 2008

The manufacturer Mercedes-Benz E Class recommends the use of engine fluids that meet certain requirements. The compliance of the oil with the required standards is indicated by the tolerances that are applied to the container with the lubricant. For example, on a canister of oil there will be an inscription: "Approved according to sheet MB 229.1, 229.3 or 229.5."

  • 0w-30, 5w-30 is suitable for a temperature range from +30 0 C (or more) to -25 0 C (or less), also under similar temperature conditions it is allowed to fill in 0w-40, 5w-40 or 5w-50;
  • 10w-30, 10w-40, 10w-50 or 10w-60 are used if the temperature is more than -20 0 C;
  • 15w-40, 15w-50 are used when the thermometer reading is over -15 0 С;
  • 20w-40, 20w-50 are used when the thermometer reading is over -5 0 C.

The amount of oil that will be needed when replacing, taking into account the change of the oil filter, is:

  • 8.0 l for engines E 240, E 320;
  • 7.5 l in the case of E 500;
  • 8.5 l for E 55 AMG engines.

Diesel engines

Recommended motor oil for Mercedes-Benz E Class must comply with tolerances 229.3 or 229.5. Viscosity selection is carried out according to scheme 2. The volume of engine oil required when replacing, taking into account the oil filter, is equal to:

  • 6.5 l for E 200 CDI and E 270 CDI engines;
  • 7.5 l for E 320 CDI engines.

Gasoline motors

  • 3, 229.5, 229.51 for E 200 BlueEFFICIENCY or E 250 BlueEFFICIENCY;
  • 3, 229.5 for E 300, E 300 BlueEFFICIENCY, E 300 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY, E 350 BlueEFFICIENCY, E 350 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY;
  • 5 if we consider the engines E 500 BlueEFFICIENCY, E 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY, E 63 AMG.

In the absence of the above motor oils, one-time topping up (not more than 1.0) of motor fluids with approvals 229.1, 229.3, or meeting ACEA A3 standards is allowed.

The selection of the viscosity characteristics of motor oil is carried out according to scheme 3.

According to scheme 3, for a temperature range from +30 0 C (or more) to -25 0 C (or less), lubricants 0w-30, 0w-40 are used. At temperatures above -25 0 C, motor oils 5w-30, 5w-40 or 5w-50 are poured. With a thermometer reading over -20 0 C, use 10w-30, 10w-40 or 10w-50, 10w-60. If the temperature is more than -15 0 С, greases 15w-30, 15w-40, 15w-50 are poured. Motor fluids 20w-40 or 20w-50 are poured at temperatures above -5 0 C. Please note that only oils with a viscosity of SAE 0w -40 or SAE 5w -40 can be used for AMG machines.

Diesel car engines

According to the manual, for models with particulate filter E 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, E 250 CDI 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY, E 300 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, E 350 CDI 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY, E 350 BlueTEC 229.51.

In the absence of the above oils, one-time topping up (not more than 1 liter) of engine fluids that meet the requirements of 229.1, 229.3, 229.5 or ACEA C3 is allowed. The selection of the viscosity of the motor fluid is carried out according to scheme 3, taking into account the temperature outside the machine.

Petrol power units

According to the operating instructions for a Mercedes Benz E Class car, lubricants with tolerances of 229.5 must be used. For AMG machines, it is permissible to fill in only lubricants with a viscosity of SAE 0W-40 or SAE 5W-40.

IN emergency situations one-time topping up (not more than 1 liter) of engine oils with the characteristics of MB-Freigabe (Mercedes-Benz approval) 229.1, 229.3 or ACEA specification A3. The choice of oil viscosity is made according to scheme 3, depending on the temperature of the region in which the machine will be operated.

Diesel car engines

Based on the manual for the Mercedes-Benz E Class car, for E 350 CDI models, oils with approvals 228.51, 229.31, 229.51 must be used. In the case of other configurations diesel cars use motor oils with tolerances 228.51, 229.31, 229.51, 229.52. In the absence of the above lubricating fluids a one-time top-up (not more than 1 liter) of oil with the characteristics of MB-Freigabe (Mercedes-Benz approval) 229.1, 229.3, 229.5 or ACEA C3 specification is allowed.
