The new model of the Skoda auto concern - Rapid, appeared in 2012 and was very much expected by the public. For a long time, fans of the brand “ate” only rumors about what technical characteristics the new engines will have, whether the car’s suspension is suitable for our roads, and what modifications of the model will be presented.

Some time after the premiere, it is safe to say that Skoda Rapid not only paid back the money invested in its production, but also exceeded all expectations many times over. After all, it was this model that was called upon, thanks to more spacious interior and a spacious trunk.

As for the appearance of the car, then exterior design formed the basis of all future updates to the Skoda line of cars. The body lines of the Rapid are smooth, but have sporty features - a chrome grille rim and a silver brand badge instead of green. Both the front and rear lights have received a new shape. An interesting, slightly aggressive look of the Skoda Rapid was to the taste of many motorists.

Skoda Rapid turned out to be a spacious and economical car, and, as always, the luggage compartment pleases with its size.

There are six types of engines in the European modification line: four gasoline engines and two diesel engines.

Gasoline engines

1.2-liter petrol (one aspirated and two turbocharged) and 1.4-liter turbocharged. Their power, respectively: 75 hp, 86 hp, 105 hp. and 122 hp Turbocharged models are equipped with a system for reducing fuel consumption and reducing harmful substances TSI. The fuel consumption of engines equipped with this system in the combined cycle is in the range of 5.1 - 5.8 liters. The 1.2-liter models are paired with a five-speed manual. The compact liftback Skoda Rapid is based on a redesigned platform from. The Czech model, compared to its German counterpart, has a longer wheelbase of 2602 mm (for Polo - 2553 mm). Accordingly, Rapid also has an advantage in terms of the total length of the body - 4483 mm versus 4390 mm. The suspension of the car is composed of front MacPherson struts and a rear semi-independent torsion beam. The package for bad roads allowed to increase the ground clearance of the model to 170 mm.

Available Skoda Rapid power plants almost repeat motor range the same Polo with a few exceptions. Moreover, since the start of sales, the line has been revised. The car entered the Russian market in 2014 with the following engines:

  • 1.2 MPI 75 HP, 112 Nm. The initial unit with a small displacement, three cylinders and distributed fuel injection.
  • 1.6 MPI 105 HP, 153 Nm. Atmospheric engine with distributed injection.
  • 1.4 TSI 122 HP, 200 Nm. The most powerful engine available to Rapido is equipped with a cast-iron cylinder block, a compressor with a boost pressure of 1.8 bar and a phase change system on the intake valves.

In 2015, the production of modernized 1.6-liter "aspirated" EA211 family began in Kaluga. The cylinder head, the block itself, pistons, connecting rods, exhaust valves, oil and water pumps were redesigned. Updated engines 90 and 110 hp replenished the range of Skoda Rapid engines, and the “junior” 1.2 MPI, on the contrary, was excluded. Plus, the output of the turbocharged 1.4 TSI has been increased from 122 to 125 hp.

Today, the Skoda liftback can be purchased in the following configurations:

  • 1.6 MPI 90 hp, 155 Nm with 5-speed manual transmission;
  • 1.6 MPI 110 hp, 155 Nm with 5-speed "mechanics" or 6-band "automatic";
  • 1.4 TSI 125 hp, 200 Nm with 7DSG robotic transmission.

The new 1.6-liter units are very economical, consuming about 5.8-6.1 liters per 100 km. The fuel consumption of the Skoda Rapid with 1.4 TSI and the DSG "robot" is even less - about 5.3 liters.

Skoda Rapid in 2016 year, despite the crisis in the market, is still the most popular model of the Czech brand in Russia. Great appearance, a strict German interior and a very roomy body, here strengths liftback Skoda Rapid. Today, the most affordable basic version of Rapid costs 569,000 rubles. For this money, a 1.6 liter engine with 90 hp will act as a power unit. in combination with 5-speed mechanics. There will be no other engine options in the Entry package.

The next “Active” package includes air conditioning and other useful features, plus you can choose between different engines and gearboxes (except version 1.4 TSI 7-speed DSG). So a 110 horsepower engine with a 6-speed automatic will cost 715,000 rubles.

But the turbo under the hood of Rapid, that is, 1.4 TSI, can be bought in the following configuration “Ambition” for 860,000 rubles. IN top version"Style" for 125 hp will have to pay already 926,000 rubles. And this is not the price ceiling of a budget liftback, because the manufacturer offers a huge amount additional options. The result is not a budget car at all.

Until the time when the popularly beloved Octavia became so expensive, there were no reasons and prerequisites for creating the Rapid model. But now that Rapid has occupied the niche that has formed between Octavia and Fabia, many future car owners have become keenly interested in this model. Naturally, after a cursory (or not so) glance at the photographs, their attention was concentrated on the technical characteristics.

So, to consider them in as much detail as possible has become the immediate task, and you need to start from the "heart" of the model - from the engines!

Engines

In total, 3 are installed on Skoda with this name power units. Very good for this segment. It is not clear why they are all gasoline ... After all, when buying a similar model, people pay great attention to fuel consumption, and with a solar-eating unit, with its characteristics, it could become completely ridiculous.

1.2 l

Rapid is the most affordable 1.2-liter Gas engine. This is a simple and well-proven unit for many years. Its design is elementary and unpretentious. It is characterized by an in-line arrangement and the presence of 3 cylinders, to which 16 valves go. There is no direct injection system or turbocharging at all - only a conventional injector.

It is not surprising that the power of this Skoda engine is small - only 75 horses. But even such a modest result can not be obtained immediately, but only by spinning the engine up to 5,400 rpm. The thrust is also small - 112 "newtons", but it can be reached earlier at 3,750 rpm. Such budget engine, which has similar technical data, will not suit drivers who have kept a spark in their souls. It will be bought only by those who either do not drive more than 120 km / h at all, or those who are extremely limited in funds. There can be no other explanation.

The maximum to which such a Rapid can be accelerated is 175 km per hour, but to reach hundreds, you will need to put pressure on the gas for 13.9 seconds. You need to fill the tank with gasoline marked "95", and the model itself is sharpened for Euro-5. For movement in the city you will have to pay 8 liters of fuel.

1.6 l

Skoda with this engine is noticeably more powerful. With the exception of the increased volume and the appearance of the 4th cylinder, no constructive changes and there are no innovations - a design in a row, an injector, and so on. However, the characteristics of the engine have changed quite dramatically. The unit of the model is able to give out 105 horses, but the peak of revolutions at which this figure is achievable “creeped” even more upwards, reaching 5,600 revolutions. The Rapid's torque has also increased, reaching 153 Nm, and its peak has shifted very slightly - by only 50 rpm - to 3,800 rpm.

Such an engine means golden mean”, suitable both for those who are not going to pay too much for Rapid, and for those who do not want to feel like a full-fledged “vegetable” on the road. The dynamics are noticeably better - weaving is exchanged in 10.6 seconds, and you can still reach a maximum rate of 193 km per hour. But for it in the city Rapid engine consumes 8.9 liters of fuel. He works on the 95th, and is focused on Euro-5.

1.4TSI

This Skoda engine falls out of the mainstream, showing off its technical indicators. Its differences lie in the presence of direct injection and boost functions. The rest is the same in-line 16-valve. Application on Skoda models The latest technological solutions make it possible to raise the power of such a modest, in terms of volume, engine to 122 horses, which it produces at 5,000 rpm. But the whole point is in its thrust - 200 "Newtons"! It's just a diesel indicator, and access to the peak is open in the most running range (from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm).

Such a Rapid starts quite cheerfully, gaining a hundred on the speedometer in 9.5 seconds. - an indicator worthy of more serious models! Yes, and his “maximum speed” is the most significant - 206 km per hour. And the most interesting thing in consumption is that it is the least - 7.4 liters, if you roll around the city! As for the rest Skoda engines– AI-95 and Euro-5 are a prerequisite.

In general, the set of engines in the model is not bad. There is a state employee, and an average version, and a version with a "spicy peppercorn". Of course, a turbocharged design is more complicated than an atmospheric one, and the costs are higher in that case, but its performance is worth it.

Gearboxes

Rapid has 3 types possible checkpoints. For versions with atmospheric engines, "mechanics" is available. She has 5 gears, which is quite enough for not the most powerful engines. But the classic, 6-band "automatic", which is also in service with the model, went only to the 1.6-liter engine, while its younger brother will remain only with a "handle". The Skoda version with a 1.4 TSI engine stands apart. It is equipped exclusively with a 7-band automatic gearbox with two clutches.

In general, there are no complaints about the work of some type of Rapid boxes. All gears are switched on clearly and easily, the machine frankly does not blunt, and the preselective transmission of the model works smoothly and quickly. Only from the point of view of reliability in the future there are serious doubts - this indicator for DSG Skoda is still lame, and the price of repairs can lead to a stupor if you have to pay for it yourself.

Suspension

All-wheel drive for the model is not provided - there is only a front. The Rapid's suspension is built classically for this segment, so it's impossible to say that the car has any special characteristics. An independent chassis, made according to the McPherson scheme, was mounted at the front, and a torsion beam familiar to everyone was registered at the back.

Extinguish the dynamics of Skoda disk brake mechanisms on the front wheels, while drums are installed on the rear. Although an exception is made for the 1.4-liter version of the model - there are also disc brakes at the rear. Their technical indicators are quite sufficient for a timely stop.

As for the steering, the Czechs have long since switched from hydraulics to electrics, so an electric booster is installed on the Rapid.

Generally Rapid dimensions repeat those of the Octavia of the first generation, there are only small discrepancies. But for a comfortable ride, the model is quite enough, except perhaps rear passengers I have to stretch my legs a little.
