Recently " Technical center 4x4' carried out just such a project.
We started with the lift: the installation of RIF’s 65mm frame-to-body spacers, coupled with a two-inch Ironman suspension lift kit, made it possible to fit a 32-inch Simex Extreme Trekker on Off Road Wheels steel rims in the arches (to make it easier for the car to turn the enlarged wheels, a new transfer case with a decrease of 3.25).

There is, however, a nuance: in the Ironman kit, we replace the front springs with ARB (by the way, the bright LED headlights under the kenguryatnik are also from this company) - they are made somewhat more powerful and hold the front of the car better if you “hang” it on it power bumper with winch.

Actually, we did just that: we installed the RIF security officer forward, into which we integrated the Come Up 12000.

A steel bumper with the same winch is also installed at the back, but our craftsmen designed and manufactured it themselves. Rear power bumper for UAZ Pickup with a winch platform, no manufacturer yet offers.

For our SUV tuning center, such problems, in general, are not problems: technical equipment and the qualifications of the craftsmen allow us to manufacture almost any off-road equipment on an individual order.

Here, in this case, it turned out pretty well: the bumper protects the rear of the car from accidental damage while driving. in reverse and at the same time plays the role of a step for easy access to the cargo compartment, there was a place for the towbar.

Then they switched to the lower part of the car: the breathers of the boxes and bridges were brought under the hood, Val-Racing self-locking differentials were installed in the bridges themselves, the entire bottom was covered with solid aluminum protection.

It protects not only tanks, gearboxes and transfer cases from damage, but also the Viair pneumatic system receiver installed in the frame. It feeds the pneumatic horn, and the sockets for connecting the wheel inflation hoses are located under the hatches, next to the fuel fillers.

Now it's the turn of the salon: it was completely disassembled and covered with noise-waterproofing materials.

The highlight of off-road tuning UAZ Patriot Pickup became a complete "pouring" of the body protective coated Raptor. This novelty is somewhat cheaper than the compositions that have already been promoted on Russian market. But at the same time, it also guarantees the absence of scratches "to the metal" even with very hard use.

The idea to buy a car with a pickup body arose after the start of long expeditions.
Traveling on a monocab, I constantly encountered the problem of a mess in the cabin, because the primary layout is shmurdyak (everything is one to one). It was violated after the first two, three days of the journey, or even earlier, as a rule, after the first serious ambush and the need to find exactly that necessary trifle, which was removed just in case a long time ago and this case came. Also annoying were the inevitable noises and rattling in the cabin, or even worse, a pair of gasoline or other strong-smelling liquids and gases transported in various containers and, as always, accidentally spilled or loosely closed.

The decision is made - we buy a pickup truck. But what brand? The car had to meet the following requirements: new, worth up to one million, bridge, with a full-fledged five-seater cabin, maintainable in the remote corners of our vast. By comparing the above requirements, there are few options left, or rather, there were no alternatives to the UAZ Patriot pickup.

After registration and signing of all necessary applications, for subsequent changes in the design vehicle, the car was transferred to the MBT company, and began:

First of all, the interior was completely dismantled from the car, for subsequent anti-corrosion treatment, noise, vibration isolation, body lift, and laying of a soldered rubber carpet throughout the cabin floor.

The body was lifted with 60 mm caprolon spacers. Arch front wheel cut out, for the subsequent installation of wheels of a larger diameter.

On this, the first part of the improvements was completed and the thoughtful operation of the pickup truck began, in order to understand and comprehend what I would like to do with the car.

After a month and a half, the concept and ideology of the upcoming work was drawn up:
Installation of wheels with a diameter of up to 33 inches, a serious refinement of the cargo compartment with the manufacture of boxes for essential items in niches above the arches rear wheels, placement of two full-size spare wheels, manufacturing and placement of fasteners for canisters, installation of an expeditionary trunk, winch, additional and working light.

We started with the manufacture of boxes built into the sides, removing the plastic liner in the body and removing the metal partition under it, we found a sufficient amount of unused space in the body for subsequent placement: a chainsaw, tow cables and a winch extension, a full supply for changing oils, a tool box, a gas stove , spray cans and other little things. As a rule, these things are very often needed in the first place, and access to them should be as quick and convenient as possible.

The doors of future boxes were cut out in the sides and reinforced with a profile along the contour.

After the completion of the side boxes, the floors and walls of the luggage compartment were shed with Movil, covered with "patch" rubber and sheathed with aluminum, the internal dimensions of the body after the manufacture of the lockers remained practically the same.

Outside, to strengthen the sidewalls of the body, they were sheathed with aluminum sheet. An OJ expeditionary roof rack was installed on the roof, the car was changed into 32x11.5R15 wheels.

Next came the turn of the manufacture of mounting spares. After the sad experience of a break in one of the expeditions, first one wheel, and then the spare wheel, as a result of which it was necessary to stop progress towards the goal and return from the route, constantly sealing and patching the least damaged wheel, it was decided to place at least two spare wheels on board. It was also necessary to close the cargo compartment from summer rain and dust, and from snow in winter.

From a pipe with a diameter of 60 mm. An arc was made, on which two spare wheels were provided, one from each edge. Behind the fastening of the arc, two boxes for attaching canisters fit organically.

The cargo compartment was closed with roller shutters, which allows, if necessary, to load tall objects into the body, a refrigerator, for example, and in the closed position it guarantees the cleanliness and dryness of objects placed in the body.

To increase the power reserve and reduce the cost of operation, a gas cylinder with a volume of 95 liters was installed in the vacant spare wheel mounting niche and, accordingly, HBO was connected.
True, when driving on gas, the consumption along the highway was 22 liters per hundred, against 18 liters of gasoline. (data for operation on wheels of size 305x70R16 and GP=4.625)

Autumn came, it was decided to go to "Chukhloma":

The car was equipped with wheels measuring 305x70R16, the main pairs were replaced with pairs diesel modifications, installed a snorkel.

Upon returning without a single breakdown from Chukhloma, there was a long winter and, which is no less important, trouble-free operation in the winter, but in winter plans for a further upgrade had already begun to ripen, because the process of preparing a car is very difficult to complete, as well as repairing an apartment, its can only be paused.

Spring has come, during the winter were purchased: atmospheric diesel, fully cast iron Toyota engine 3V, which has a gear drive not only for the timing mechanism, but also for the power steering, and from the electrics only a starter, a generator, glow plugs and pressure and temperature sensors, a gearbox and a gearbox of the same brand and bridges Nissan Patrol with disc brakes in a circle and forced locking of the rear differential.

For the implantation of the above equipment, the car was transported to the garage of the Seryogin brothers, these are well-known trophists and Kulibins.

The whole summer and half of autumn passed before the car left the “operating room”, with a new heart and musculoskeletal system :-)

The engine is located without problems in engine compartment. Fuel consumption with this engine is now 13.5 l/100 km. when driving on the highway.

Suspension rear axle was supplemented with springs, the shock absorber mounting angles were changed, which had a fruitful effect on the carrying capacity and handling.

and the front bumper was equipped with protected IP 67 SLED LED optics from the CRAEL Company. Which really turns night into day, and with the right adjustment (slightly down and to the right), the headlights located on the bumper do not blind oncoming drivers, thereby allowing you to drive at night in previously unattainable light comfort.

All six wheels mounted on the car - Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ Radial SLT, size 33x15.5x15. This rubber is famous for its wear resistance, low noise level and, as practice has shown, at a pressure of 0.8 atm. behaves very confidently even in wet clay ruts.

A sticker with the club logo was applied to the sidewalls of the body.

On this, the work on the preparation of this machine, as it seems, is currently stopped, or suspended until next spring?

The result was exactly the car that was conceived:
Large and spacious, with well-thought-out ergonomics for placing things and objects, equipped with probably the best and very reliable units. By the way, original parts that cannot be purchased in stores, but you have to carry only two with you: a rear cardan and a steering arm, the rest of the parts were used from production models. For testing in real conditions, we again went to the Chukhloma, where for three days of operation in really very harsh conditions, the solutions embodied in the car proved their right to life.

It remains to be hoped that changes will be made to this design no more, though…….. :-)

What car do you think is most often used by Russian hunters? Perhaps I will not sin against the truth if I say that this is an "UAZ". And the "UAZ" pickup is generally their dream come true. If you eliminate some of the shortcomings of a standard car, then you can turn it into an ideal hunting vehicle.

First of all, the standard UAZ lacks agility. This is especially felt when overtaking on the track. As you know, there are two ways to increase power and torque. The first is an increase in engine displacement. The second is an increase in the volume of the supplied air-fuel mixture. The first method is relatively complicated and expensive. The second is simpler and cheaper - the installation of the so-called turbocharging. Specialists from KDT, together with Gladkov-Service, have long been equipping atmospheric engines of foreign cars with supercharging. Why not do the same with the UAZ engine? Supercharging, including an intercooler, "intercooler", can increase torque by 25%. The result was a pleasant surprise. On a supercharged machine, you do not need to constantly turn the lever and stomp the pedals. Moving around in the city is now much easier, and overtaking on the highway is much safer. Yes, and on the ground it became easier to drive into long steep climbs and storm heavy sands.

Strengthening the motor is good, but not enough for hunters. What about hunting without a power bumper and "kengurin"? Of course, the car was equipped with both, and also with a winch. We built it into the front power bumper just in case, it definitely won’t be worse. In addition, an aluminum "balcony" was added to the roof. Which in turn made it possible to put a convenient LED additional light. Well, the thresholds were left “native”, since they are quite strong.

Now it remains to lift the car and put the wheels in a larger size. Tough Dog springs and shock absorbers not only lifted the car to the desired height, but also increased comfortable off-road speed. For winter, tires 235x85R16 were used, this significantly increased ground clearance.

What is usually the biggest problem in hunting ungulates? Of course, to drag the extracted carcass. After all, an elk or a wild boar weighs a lot. With a pickup truck, this problem is solved quite easily. But the height of the tailgate implies the participation of almost a dozen people in loading. The problem is removed by a small snowmobile winch installed in the body, and a pair of sand-trucks. By the way, about the body. The open body of a pickup truck is not for Russia. Not the same weather conditions. Therefore, a superstructure made by special order from KDT was installed on board the UAZ. It opens not only from the back, as usual, but also from the sides. This is very convenient, especially if you load a lot of things and go far. You do not need to unload everything every time to find what lies in the far corner. Just open the side cover from the right side. Do not forget about the hatch in the roof of the superstructure. All covers can be locked with a key from overly curious citizens. The roof of the superstructure is flush with the "balcony" to maximize the height of the machine.

UAZ Patriot is a powerful frame, continuous bridges, dependent suspension- all that at the expense of comfort gives such desired results on the road. The basic "abilities" of the UAZ Patriot are enough for a train to the country, trips to nature and travel in relative proximity to "civilized" roads, but those who want to really use the full potential of the car should think about tuning. UAZ Patriot is not a trophy car in the TP1-TP3 classes, but it is often used for long trips. Therefore, when tuning a car, they take care of both comfort and preservation driving performance SUV.

You need to install an expeditionary trunk on the roof - a useful and practical thing for a pickup truck, besides, it is convenient to attach vetkosbrosy cables to it. Now thresholds: they are included in the basic, factory equipment. But ... what is installed at the factory, as a rule, does not “live” for a long time - since the thresholds are attached with very weak brackets, and if an active off-road life shines on the car, then the verdict is to replace it!

It is definitely worth protecting the car from below: by installing aluminum, light and durable protection, by closing the checkpoint, “razdatka”, fuel tanks and steering rods. It is better to replace the native shock absorbers, the Rancho shock absorbers have proven themselves well, but you can put whatever is cheaper. Bridges also need to be finalized - to install self-locking differentials.

Technical tuning UAZ Patriot

Recently, the UAZ Patriot has been equipped with a fairly effective hydraulic vacuum brake booster. If your SUV is from earlier batches, we strongly recommend installing it. You will immediately forget about the "dumb" brake pedal. A few words about waterproofing and protecting the engine from water hammer. The snorkel is not a beautiful pipe, the hallmark of "combat" off-road vehicles, but a severe necessity.

It is necessary to build a system for shutting off the pickup engine cooling fan. Otherwise, the cooling system may overheat. For this purpose, the disable key is displayed on dashboard and when forcing streams and rivulets, the fan is turned off. Also, for successful crossing of water barriers, it is worth bringing the breathers of transmission units higher. We return to the forwarding trunk. For normal loading and unloading, you need a ladder - we fix it on the back door.

Now with regards to the suspension. Considering the harsh conditions under which the operation of the UAZ Pickup takes place, it would be nice to replace the standard shock absorbers with more efficient ones. Among the most suitable are PLAZA gas shock absorbers. They are easy to install on the car and have excellent characteristics.

You will also need a "chandelier" - optimally 4 headlights, and for maneuvers and illumination of loading and unloading at night, another 1-2 rear spotlights. The interior space of the luggage compartment should be used wisely! Firstly, on the back door (from the inside), it is worth equipping an “ambulance shield” - sheathing with aluminum sheet and adapting mounts for a shovel and an ax.

The interior of the trunk is also lined with aluminum. Sometimes (and this is especially useful on long journeys), an additional tank is installed at the bottom to cover the entire trunk area, slightly reducing its volume.

But this is not scary, because there is an "expeditor". Also, as one of the options - a device on the sides of boxes for storing tools, a compressor and any small things. We also recommend trimming the interior floor with aluminum - this is both practical and allows you to first improve the sound insulation of the car.

The joints of the panels must be carefully greased with sealant so that water does not flow under the aluminum sheets.

A little about accessories. To conquer off-road, you need to purchase a sand truck and a hijack. They are easy to transport to forwarding trunk. For personal convenience, you should not save on the compressor, but immediately buy a normal one - Viair, for example, install it permanently (at least in one of the luggage compartment boxes, and display the pressure gauge on the dashboard. And another off-road device is a winch.

It is installed on the front power bumper, and the control panel is displayed in the salon. If desired, you can replace the front seats of the Patriot with more comfortable ones, as well as install rear disc brakes, change the steering damper to a branded one, but these are the nuances that each jeeper makes for himself personally.

Airbrushing UAZ Patriot is used, as a rule, by extraordinary personalities who are not afraid to stand out from the crowd.
