When to do maintenance
UAZ maintenance is necessary if:
- The next deadlines came up - mileage, engine hours, time for changing oils and coolant.
- Identified extraneous knocks, vibrations and noises during operation.
- Violated adjustment of components and assemblies - malfunctions are eliminated when servicing the car.
Service types
UAZ daily maintenance:
- visual inspection of the condition of the platform and body, glass, paint, license plates, etc.;
- checking spare parts and accessories;
- checking the tightness of all systems containing fuel, oil and coolants for leakage;
- assessment of the state of electrics, lighting devices and alarm systems;
- filling the glass washer reservoir with a special liquid or water (only in the warm season);
- steering wheel travel check;
- control of serviceability of brakes;
- cleaning or replacing the air filter;
- elimination of all identified defects;
- car wash.

- checking the free play of the steering wheel, clearances in the steering rod joints, in the pivot joints;
- checking the cotter pin nuts of the ball pins, fastening the steering knuckle lever, ball pins, ball bearings to the axle shaft housings, steering bipod, tightening the nuts for fastening the tips;
- setting the free and working strokes of the brake pedal;
- assessment of the fastening of the exhaust pipe of the muffler and its suspension;
- checking the fastening of the wheels, the condition of the tires and the air pressure in them;
- checking the fastening of the control drives of the gearbox, transfer case;
- checking the fastening of the flanges of the front and rear cardan shafts to the flanges of the transfer case shafts;

- fulfillment of all the instructions of the lubrication table provided for TO-1.
During TO-2, you should:
- check the operation of the clutch and the free travel of the clutch pedal;
- check and, if necessary, adjust the gaps between the rocker arms and valves;
- check the fastening of the engine, engine oil sump, upper and lower parts of the clutch housing;
- check the fastening of the radiator and its lining, blinds, expansion rods;
- during the inspection, check the tightness of the cooling system, the serviceability and fastening of the cooling system pump and fan, the condition of the fan belt;
- clean the generator and starter from dirt and oil and check the condition of the collector and starter brushes;
- blow the cavity of the generator and starter with compressed air and check their fastening;
- adjust fan belt tension;
- check the fastening of the inlet and outlet pipelines;
- clean the surface of the candles, the ignition coil of the distribution sensor and high voltage wires from dirt and oil;
- check the condition of the high and low voltage wires;
- remove the spark plugs and check their condition;
- clean the electrodes and adjust the gap between them;
- check the degree of charge of the battery by the voltage of the cells under load;
- remove the battery for recharging;
- check the fastening of the battery in the socket;
- check the fastening of the carburetor and fuel pump, troubleshoot if found;
- adjust the idle speed of the crankshaft;
- check the fastening of the crankcase and bipod of the steering mechanism;
- check and, if necessary, adjust the engagement of the worm and the steering roller;
- check the amount of convergence of the front wheels, adjust if necessary;
- check the serviceability of the drive and the operation of the parking brake;
- if necessary, remove the drum, check the wear of the brake linings, disassemble, wash and lubricate the expansion and adjustment mechanisms;
- check the condition of the frame, springs, spring pads, cups, clamps and shock absorbers by inspection, if necessary, eliminate faults. Loose rivets of cups and collars of springs should be re-riveted;
- check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel bearings;
- remove the brake drums and clean the brakes. Check the condition of the brake drums, shoes, linings and fastening of the brake shields;
- check the condition of the pipelines of the brake system and brake cylinders;
- install the brake drums and adjust the clearances between the brake drums and shoes;
- check the fastening of the leading flanges of the hubs and flanges of the axle shafts;
- check the fastening of the bearing caps of the drive gears of the front and rear axles;
- check the fastening of the gearbox on the clutch housing and transfer case on the gearbox;
- check the clearances in the bearings of the final drive gear of the front and rear axles and, if any, eliminate defects;
- check the fastening of the cardan shaft flanges;
- check the fastening of the body (cabin) and platform to the frame;
- check and, if necessary, adjust the tension of the cables of the front door windows;
- check the fastening of the fuel tanks;
- if necessary, balance the wheels;
- clean the hoses and wash the parts of the closed crankcase ventilation system with kerosene;
- clean the air filter and its filter element from dust and dirt;
- wash the flame arrester mesh inside the filter cover with kerosene;
- replace each filter element with a new one;
- Follow all instructions in the lubrication table.
Seasonal Service
Seasonal maintenance is carried out twice a year - in spring and autumn, and, if possible, is combined with the next TO-2. When switching to the winter or summer season of operation, the scope of work on TO-2 is supplemented by the following operations.
1. Before the summer season of operation:
- put the damper for heating the working mixture of the gas pipeline to the "Summer" position;
- drain sediment from fuel tanks;
- remove the heater and wiper motors, check the condition of the collector and brushes, rinse and lubricate the bearings;
- flush the cooling system;
- replace the oils in the units with summer grades provided for in the lubrication table.
2. Before the winter season of operation:
- set the damper for heating the working mixture of the gas pipeline to the “Winter” position;
- flush fuel tanks and fuel filters;
- replace the oils in the units with winter grades provided for in the lubrication table;
- prepare the starting engine heater for operation (when installing it);
- check the operation of the heating and ventilation system of the body (cabin);
- check the operation of the blinds, troubleshoot and lubricate the traction;
- clean or replace the brake booster air filter.
Remember that during the maintenance of the UAZ, all previous types of maintenance must be included in it!

Seasonal maintenance of UAZ cars
The operation of a UAZ car is also characterized by such a type of service as seasonal! The work required for seasonal maintenance is indicated in the operating instructions for the UAZ vehicle. Seasonal maintenance is carried out 2 times a year - in spring and autumn, and may or may not coincide with the next MOT.
Maintenance of a UAZ car before the summer season of operation
1. Check the condition of the oil pump drive gears by first removing its cover.
2. Drain sediment from fuel tanks.
3. Check the operation of the wiper and washer. Troubleshoot
4. Replace the oils in the units with summer (all-weather) grades, prudently using the lubrication table
5. Flush the cooling system
6. Set the damper for heating the working mixture of the gas pipeline to the “summer” position
Maintenance of a UAZ car before the winter season of operation
1. Check the density of the liquid in the engine cooling system and, if necessary, bring it to normal (1.075-1.085 g / cm3 at 20 degrees C)
2. When filling the washer tank with anti-freeze liquid, drain the water
3. Check the operation of the heating and ventilation system of the body. Troubleshoot.
4. Before the winter season of operation (or after 20,000 km of run), flush the fuel tanks
5. Replace the chassis in the units with winter grades specified in the lubrication table.
6. Set the damper for heating the working mixture of the gas pipeline to the “winter” position
7. Check the operation of the blinds. Troubleshoot, lubricate traction.
8. Close the oil cooler tap.
The odometer showed 15,000 kilometers. This means that it is time to do the scheduled TO-1. In addition to it, you need to change the oil in the front axle, because ...
Since in a more detailed study of work orders from Soffit, I suddenly realized that on the TO-0 I made, the oil was replaced only in the rear axle. It was already six months ago, so it’s hard to say what exactly happened: either I said something wrong, or we didn’t understand each other with the receiving master.
Thus, you first need to purchase oil for the internal combustion engine and front axle.
Since the last oil change, I still have about 3 liters of engine oil left, so I bought one 4-liter Lukoil canister for the engine:
and two Lukoil canisters with a volume of one liter for the bridge:
In the last post about changing the oil, I explained why I choose Lukoil as a supplier of lubricants.
Like last time, I buy oil at a Lukoil gas station, where, as I also mentioned earlier, the chance to stumble upon a fake is minimal.
I made an appointment at the service station for the next day.
During a routine check, the master revealed some wear and tear on the generator drive belt. We have heard a lot about this feature of factory parts, so I agreed with the recommendation of the master to replace the belt. A low coolant level was also noticed. This misunderstanding has also been corrected.
All work took about 4 hours, except for washing the car, therefore, my recommendation: you should take care of your leisure in advance for the duration of the maintenance work.
In total, according to the works and materials of the service station, cost of TO-1 amounted to 7343 rubles. If we take into account the oil I bought, then this is another two thousand rubles. So in the end: ~ 9400 rubles.
