Izh Jupiter-2 - road bike middle class, designed for driving on roads with different surfaces. Produced by the Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant. It was a continuation of the Izh Jupiter series of motorcycles, produced from 1971 to 1971. Then the engineers were faced with the task of making a new motorcycle with a two-cylinder engine. They succeeded.

The motorcycle turned out to be quite powerful (19 hp), the engine displacement of the motorcycle was 347 cm³. The battery was alkaline at 6V.

Izh Jupiter-2 was well received by motorists, but then the opinion changed. The reason for this was the technical problems that arose in operation, in particular, on a motorcycle, the ignition angle constantly went astray over time, due to the negligence of crooked craftsmen who forgot to install engravers. The design of the motorcycle turned out to be not entirely successful: the main and glaring mistake of the designers is that on the gas tank, where the Izh badge usually stands, there was a badge with a painted planet similar to Saturn, but not Jupiter.

Hundreds of blue IZHs leave the factory assembly line every day. This bike is also not long to wait. A few more efforts, and the car will come to life.

Motorcycle enthusiasts are well aware of the IZH-Planet and IZH-Jupiter motorcycles. Our plant has been producing them since 1961-1962. And since that time, work has been continuously going on to improve them. The reliability of the machines has increased significantly, and thanks to this, the warranty mileage of motorcycles has been increased by 20 percent.

Factory designers are working not only to eliminate the flaws identified during operation, to improve the model on the conveyor. Our design bureau also prepared new, modernized models of motorcycles, paying special attention to such qualities as reliability and durability. Now all work on the creation and testing of new machines has been completed. "IZH-Planet-2" and "IZH-Jupiter-2" are ready for launch.

How do they differ from their well-known predecessors?

The first thing that catches your eye - appearance. New machines are more in line with the requirements of modern technical aesthetics. Motorcycles are painted in a single, corporate color. The wheel rims, muffler housings are covered with a layer of decorative chrome plating, and the protective covers of carburetors and brake covers are covered with hammer enamel. Crankcase covers due to polishing found a mirror finish. The saddle cover made of colored textvinite looks quite modern. By the way, the double saddle itself is somewhat wider than usual and more comfortable in shape.

The power of the new "Jupiter" remained the same, but the IZH Planet-2 motorcycle became stronger by more than two Horse power s. This made it possible to improve the dynamic qualities of the motorcycle and increase the maximum speed to 105 km/h. Increasing power to 15.5 liters. from. achieved by reducing the volume of the crank chamber, a slight increase in the compression ratio and the use of a K-36Zh carburetor with a diffuser diameter increased to 27 mm.

Without dwelling on the design features of the new carburetor, we want to briefly talk about its advantages over the previously used K-28. The scheme of the K-36Zh carburetor with a fuel corrector removed from the diffuser zone provides a more economical composition of the mixture and a reduction in fuel consumption by 4-6 percent. The enrichment of the mixture in the K-36Zh carburetor, unlike the K-28, is achieved by rotating the corrector lever clockwise. You need to use the corrector when starting the engine in cold weather and when driving at maximum speed. The flange fastening of the K-36Zh carburetor to the inlet pipe with two bolts is stronger than the K-28 fastening, in which the clamps often broke.

The bearing design of the secondary shaft of the gearbox has undergone a change. In the new roller bearings, the length of the rollers has been increased from 8 mm to 12 mm. However, they are installed without changing the seats in the crankcase. This is especially important for engine repair and spare parts provision. In addition, the barrel-shaped rollers allow for a more even distribution of stress along the length. Extended, bubbling rollers will increase bearing life by more than 1.5 times.

Now a few words about the changes in IZH-Jupiter.

Although the durability of the bearing of the lower head of the connecting rod crankshaft

IZH-Yu is quite sufficient and the bearing can withstand over 30 thousand kilometers, there are cases premature exit him out of order. This is due to exceeding the permissible speeds in each gear or “gasping” at idle during warm-up, when the shaft revolutions significantly exceed the maximum power revolutions.

The redesigned connecting rod has now improved bottom smut roller bearing lubrication. This, in turn, increased the resistance several times when the engine was running at high revs. Changed worm shaft and shift forks. This is done for a clearer and more durable operation of the switching mechanism.

Rice. 1. Oil seals protecting wheel bearings: a) a felt seal used on the IZH-Planet motorcycle, b) a motorcycle rubber seal

An important innovation that increased the overhaul run of Planeta and Jupiter is a new design of oil seals to protect wheel bearings from dust and moisture. Previously, a felt gland served for this purpose (Fig. 1, a). It did not provide sufficient sealing and, moreover, required frequent replacement. Rubber seals (Fig. 1, b), which replaced the felt ones, almost doubled the service life of the bearings.

Rubber sealing rings are also installed in the pendulum fork.

They significantly improve the protection of the fork bearings and thus increase their service life.

Rice. 2. Location of the brake light switch: a) brake light switch on the frame of IZH-Planet, b) brake light switch IZH-Planet-2 in the tool box.

In spring and autumn, the brake light switch (Fig. 2, a), mounted on the frame under the brake lever, gave motorists a lot of trouble. It was not tight enough and often failed due to oxidation of the contacts.

The new switch design shown in fig. 2, b (it is located on the tool box), ensures its reliability in any conditions.

Both models have new relay-regulators. They are distinguished by the best vibration resistance and stability of adjustments, and this is important for the reliable operation of the engine.

On IZH-P2 and IZH-Yu2, a special polyethylene tray is placed under the battery. It will protect the toolbox from corrosion due to electrolyte ingress.

The modernization of motorcycles also touched on such important components as brakes. Analyzing the operating experience of tens of thousands of cars, the designers came to the conclusion that with a large mileage, the brakes sometimes lose their reliability. And adjusting doesn't help either. brake system- Linings and ends of pads wear out. As a result, when the cam is fully rotated, the pads are weakly pressed against the brake drum. During repairs in such cases, steel strips were welded to the end of the pads to compensate for wear. IN new design cast aluminum brake pads a special compensator is provided. Now, with a lot of wear, under the steel heel located at the end of the block, you just need to put the washer, which will be included in the complete set of the motorcycle. Comparing the old stamp-welded and new - cast - pads, it can be noted that the design of the latter is much more rigid. Pressing a steel bushing into the seat under the brake cam should make the operation of the brake system drive more reliable.

Rice. 3. Collapsible muffler IZH-Planet 2 and IZH-Jupiter 2

The exhaust system has also changed. And before, IZH was not considered a “loud” car. However, the sound of the exhaust and the design of the mufflers did not satisfy the designers. For new models, new exhaust silencers were developed and tested (Fig. 3). Their collapsible design allows, without removing the muffler body, to disconnect the tip, remove it, clean the “stuffing” and reassemble the muffler. In addition, an increase in the volume of the muffler and optimally matched exhaust passage sections make the motorcycle very quiet.

Taken together design changes, which we talked about, will increase the warranty mileage of motorcycles IZH-Planet 2 and IZH-Jupiter 2 compared to IZH-Planet and IZH-Jupiter by 25 percent.

Each motorcycle comes with a spare parts kit. Now it has increased: it additionally includes a clutch cable and a tire pressure gauge, which will make it possible to maintain the required pressure in the chambers. This will ultimately affect the life of the tires. For motorcycles IZH-Jupiter with a side trailer, an asterisk with nineteen teeth is given. It is necessary when driving without a trailer.

And in conclusion - a request to motorists. The plant receives many letters from the owners Izhevsk motorcycles with comments, suggestions, questions, advice. I would like to receive data on the service life of components and parts in these letters, indicating the motorcycle model, year of manufacture, nature of the malfunction, mileage, operating conditions, load.

Analysis of materials describing the operation of vehicles in various road and climatic conditions will help the plant to quickly solve problems for their further improvement.

In my childhood of the 90s, when most people did not have computers and spent their free time on the street, the time came when the owners of first mopeds appeared in the yard. mostly holes with pedals, less often in the Carpathians and Riga. A year or two later, they already came to the yard at Voskhod, Minsky, Izhakh, most often without documents and without category “A” rights. Own Java, and even more so latest model at that time, it was the height of steepness. But most of my peers 14-16 years old moved on two wheels with pedals and a two-legged drive, jealous of the guys in helmets.
The boy of those years could not have a motorcycle for several reasons:
1. Parents do not allow. (and rightly so).
2. No money (in the yard of the 90s).
3. You don’t need this yourself, he doesn’t know how and in general it’s better to do homework :).
My choice was #2.
When the desire to own two-wheeled vehicles overcame all possible boundaries, the brain began to think about how to make money on it.
There are not many options at 15 years old. He dragged corn from the fields, boiled it and sold it in the market. I saved up 800 rubles in a month!
As a result, the following year, in the spring, I bought an IZH Jupiter 2 with a sidecar for 600 rubles. and gave 100 rubles for a general power of attorney.
Photo 1999. Here I am 16 years old.

That was the time! Gasoline cost 3-4 rubles a liter, in the pocket was also no more than 10 rubles. After some time, I unhooked the cradle, drove the motorcycle to the dacha and spent the whole summer and autumn riding it.
In winter, I decided to make it a cool sports bike, black and red, with a fire on the tank, with a raised wing. It is not difficult to guess what came of this, and after a year of inactivity in the garage, he was sent to the village, where he was revived and changed to grain.
Time passed, but the idea to buy IZH Jupiter 2, restore and ride remembering childhood never left.
Studying, the army, marriage, work, a small child, again work and business trips, did not give thoughts and a chance for a motorcycle and free time around it. Finally, approaching the age of 30, when my capabilities became a little closer to my desires, I sat down on the Internet in search of a Jupiter 2 in good condition and complete set.
But it wasn’t there, for everything more or less alive and intact, the owners asked for the amount that arose in their heads apparently after a strong blow, arguing that it was already a rarity and its place in the museum, and not, as it is now, near the crap .... barn .

Once I pressed my grandparents to the side of the road (he did it very politely).
I say - "Sell your father a motorcycle, I will restore it and keep it."
Grandfather - “What are you going to restore in it? He is so in good condition and in general the whole.”
- "Well, I'll paint it ... sell it, buy yourself a modern Jupiter."
- “I don’t need a modern one, I’ve been on this all my life. I’ll die, then I’ll sell”
“But how do I know that you are dead?”
- “I, he says, remembered your numbers, they will inform you”
Grandfather got caught with humor, parted. Such people do not sell their friend, children and grandchildren do it for them later. Either the price tag for a rarity, or for scrap, after they roll it away.

Months passed, it became a habit to watch ads for the sale of motorcycles in the evening. And then somehow it comes across - IZH Jupiter 2 is for sale, the price is 10 thousand rubles. The photo shows a complete motorcycle with good chrome.
There was one thing, but three weeks earlier I bought an IZH-49, around which all my free time spun. The wife looked at the ad
and said - go and pick it up, then you will regret it, we will ride together. I thank her for this, for her understanding and full support.
in my hobby.

Arriving at the place, I found that the motorcycle was assembled on a non-native frame, the right glove box was from the third series. The price dropped to 6 thousand rubles
and I was happy to take him home. It was winter, but it was impossible not to drive, especially since it started up perfectly. All lighting equipment worked, up to the signal.

In the photo I am 30 years old. Find 10 differences from the photo above))))

The motorcycle stood for a year, IZH-49 was occupied all the time ... Finally, I decided to take it apart. I already had experience of how to make less “extra movements”. Expected to take to the sandblasting and paint in the powder chamber. Under the order, I picked up a beautiful beige-milky powder color, with gloss, and took black for the frame and chassis parts in order to dilute the monotony.

Unfortunately, things didn't turn out the way I wanted. Beige powder paint was of poor quality. The output turned out to be a matte yellow color, while the black one lay well and correctly. I had to manually re-clean off the powder paint and prepare for the usual painting with cheap car enamel, for drying in the chamber.

I hoped to catch the remains of chromium under a layer of dirt and oil, but, the shiny surface of the exhaust pipes, this is cleaned
shiny bare metal. I decided, until I get a donor, to paint them in the color of the motorcycle. Should not burn, on early IZHs
fully painted at the factory.

After painting. I chose blue. There are no documents for it, so I didn’t become attached to beige, which I didn’t really like

Quotes! Tape from the first experience with IZH-49 into the furnace! You need masking tape. Car masking tape ZM costs 200 rubles for 5 meters, but you need 20. I found it in a hardware store, rough, thick, but alternative at a price of 40 rubles.
I bought a very successful paint, the color from it really gives off chrome, and not silver.

The city of Izhevsk can rightly be called the center Russian motorcycle industry. It was at the local plant that the first five models of motorcycles were produced in a single copy specifically for the participation of vehicles in the second All-Union motorcycle race. This motorcycle race began in September 1929, the total length of the motorcycle race route was almost three and a half thousand kilometers. Each of the motorcycle models produced by the Izhevsk plant successfully coped with its task.

As for motorcycle models, the production of which was mass-produced, the most popular of them has always been and remains to this day the Izh Jupiter 2 motorcycle.

General description of the motorcycle Izh Jupiter 2

The design of the motorcycle brand Izh Jupiter 2 is made in a classic style and in terms of appearance is practically no different from the vast majority of other domestic motorcycles, which were produced in the same years. The wheel length of this motorcycle model is two hundred and thirteen centimeters, ground clearance thirteen and a half centimeters wheelbase one hundred and forty three centimeters. Weighs this model motorcycle one hundred and eighty-five kilograms.

Motorcycle brand Izh Jupiter 2 is double. Its main distinguishing feature is the presence of a special tubular frame. Its wheels are covered with special narrow metal fenders.

As for the fuel tank of this motorcycle model, it is standard and can accommodate eighteen liters. In the Izh Jupiter 2K version, a sidecar can also be attached to this motorcycle model. In this case, the motorcycle will no longer weigh one hundred and eighty-five kilograms, but two hundred and fifty-three kilograms. At the same time, its passenger capacity will increase to three people.

Characteristics and design features of the motorcycle

This motorcycle model is distinguished by its excellent ride both on highways and on country roads. In addition, its advantages include the relative ease of operation.

Despite the fact that this motorcycle model has a sufficient degree of reliability, it has one significant drawback, which is that the ignition angle very often goes astray. This is mainly due to the fact that motorcycle owners forget to install the so-called engraver.

It is also necessary to note a significant omission of the designers of this motorcycle model, which lies in the fact that the emblem on fuel tank more like saturn than jupiter.

A special two-cylinder two-stroke power unit with an air cooling system is installed on this motorcycle model. Its working volume is three hundred and forty-seven cubic meters.

The engine power of this motorcycle model reaches nineteen horsepower, which, in turn, allows the motorcycle to reach speeds of up to one hundred and ten kilometers per hour. In the case of the Izh Jupiter 2K version, maximum speed is eighty-seven kilometers per hour.

The drive for the front wheel is chain. The transmission is four-speed.

Among other things, this motorcycle model is equipped with a special telescopic suspension, which is also commonly called a fork, on the front side and a pendulum-type suspension with several shock absorbers on the rear side. As for the wheel suspension of the stroller, it is torsion bar.

The work of the regular electrical equipment of the bike is ensured by a special alkaline battery ZMT-6 brand, from which voltage is supplied, the power level of which is six volts.

The front brakes, as well as the rear brakes of this motorcycle model, are drum brakes.

With this configuration, this motorcycle model consumes about 6 liters of fuel for every hundred kilometers traveled by it.

Motorcycle history

The first prototype of a motorcycle called "IZH JUPITER" was demonstrated to the general public in the city of Brussels in one thousand nine hundred and fifty-seven as part of the annual world motorcycle exhibition. And by the end of the year one thousand nine hundred and fifty-eight, it was launched mass production this motorcycle model.

This motorcycle model was based on the IZH-56, but at the same time it was equipped with an already updated two-cylinder power unit, produced at a mechanical plant in the city of Izhevsk. During the development process, this motorcycle model was called "IZH-58". And only with the beginning of mass production in one thousand nine hundred and sixty-first year it received the name "IZH JUPITER". The second generation "IZH JUPITER" was developed specifically for driving on roads with a wide variety of surfaces. Compared to the motor vehicles of the IZH JUPITER model of the first generation, the motor vehicles of the IZH JUPITER model of the second generation were distinguished by an increased level of power power unit, as well as aluminum wheel hubs and pads.

Currently purchase motorcycle model IZH Jupiter 2 quite problematic, because its mass production was discontinued in one thousand nine hundred and seventy-one.
