Added value. Differences between the BMW M series and the BMW M-package (M-style, M-look) What is the difference between bmw 3 and 5

What now? The Bavarians have added two more hatchbacks to the existing bodies: the BMW 3 series Gran Turismo and the BMW 4 series Gran Coupe. And confused us completely!

Do not look at the fact that now some of the cars (sedan, station wagon and Gran Turismo hatch) belong to the 3 series family, and the coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe belong to the fourth. Yes, the “fours” have a different design, a wider track and less ground clearance, but this does not change the essence: the platform, the engines, and the interior are essentially the same. Moreover, at first glance, the difference between the models is absolutely minimal.

Of course, a fourth-series car of more status, as planned, cannot be equipped with weak engines. If the "three" is at least 316i, then the minimum index of the "four" is 420i and not a single less. There is also a little richer equipment. But not as much! Look at the price: if the most basic BMW 420i Gran Coupe costs 2 million 266 thousand, then bmw sedan 320i can take 1 million 919 thousand. The difference is 350 thousand. Not a lot!

And, unlike the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, which looks a million times cooler than the usual "five", the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe does not look significantly more expensive than the "three rubles". At least in the “vacuum”, but if you put two cars side by side, you will immediately see that the hatchback is lower, wider and generally cooler. Moreover, one of the equipment packages is already assigned to it by default: Sport Line, Modern Line or Luxury Line. Depending on the choice, the “four” will differ in bumpers, wheels, interior decor and some other equipment. At the "treshka" you still have to pay extra for them.

What's the difference in driving? All the nuances of handling must be described with the word “seems”. The BMW 4 Series "Gran Coupe" seems to be a bit sharper and more precise to handle than a regular sedan. It seems that at the same time, the suspension is even a little more energy-intensive, and although the BMW only slightly rounds out small irregularities, the car copes with larger ones quite confidently. Or does it just seem?

In any case, on the road, the "four" behaves remarkably. The only complaint about the car is that on a straight steering wheel it is too light and a little empty. However, this is "treated" by ordering the M-package.

It certainly doesn't feel like the 428i's two-litre engine is great. He has perfect stats: 245 Horse power and 350 Newton meters is enough for the “four” to catapult from a traffic light to 100 km / h in six seconds, humiliating a pair of tuned hot hatches along the way. And yet, five horsepower falls short of the draconian vehicle tax rate. The 435i version is simply not needed in this situation: the difference in dynamics with the 428i is not radical, and if you really want to burn it like hell, then you should immediately take the M3 or M4.

Even the engine sounds great: at medium speeds it hums like a six-cylinder, and closer to the top it fills with a typical BMW trill. True, it's quiet, but if you want an indecently loud soundtrack, again, you need to look towards the M-models.

Eight-speed automatic transmission gears from BMW with a trick. In fact, there are two of them: regular and "sports" versions. You can understand which version is on the car by the paddle shifters - if they are, then it’s “sports”. She has absolutely the same hardware and even the same gear ratios. The difference is in the “software”, which allows you to click gears faster. And although the usual "machine" does not have the slightest problem with the speed of switching, in sport mode this allows you to save another couple of tenths when accelerating to hundreds. And at the same time, to pull the driver a little when switching, which, with the super-smooth thrust of the turbo engine, is perhaps even a plus.

But still, where is the same chic? After all, the same can be said about the usual sedan of the third series. And if the X6 is radically different from the X5, and the "six" Gran Coupe from the usual 5 series, then everything is a little more complicated here.

Practicality? Yes, the BMW 4 Series "Gran Coupe" looks like a sedan (whatever the name says) but has the functionality of a hatchback. Trunk volume is 480 liters, which is exactly the same as a regular three-ruble note, but you can fold the rear backrests and get 1,300 liters with a wide opening. But for those who are especially practical, there is the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo: its trunk is not only even larger (from 520 to 1,600 liters, just a minute), it has a longer wheelbase (rear passengers more spacious) and ground clearance higher (to the driver - not so scary on bad roads).

Wow, they planted a garden!

However, this is not the fault of the "quartet" as such. It’s not bad, it’s just that the usual “three-ruble note” of the Bavarians came out so brilliant that it’s almost impossible to improve something in it. Another indirect confirmation of this is the recent restyling, in which the BMW 3 Series, in fact, received new engines and several new options. And that's it!

Often people think that an expensive brand of any thing (computer, car) differs from other analogues only in a nameplate. In practice, exactly the same functionality is provided.

But practice shows that more expensive brands provide a lot more interesting chips for your money than it might seem at first glance. Today I was in the BMW showroom all day and talked with the manager. And learned a lot of interesting things about the cars of this brand.

BMW SAFETY

I liked the way BMW approaches the safety of its customers. All BMW cars have the same security system. Including we are talking about side airbags. Even in the simplest configuration of any model, you will find not only front airbags, but also side airbags. In other brands, this is often available only in the richest trim levels. And then sometimes you need to make a special order car to get a complete set of airbags and curtain airbags.

After I found out, I understood why BMW cars are so expensive. Airbags alone cost a lot of money, and the value they bring is priceless.

Further more. Each car is equipped with a SIM card, which can automatically call the assistance service in case of serious accidents or allow you to manually call a tow truck if you stand somewhere on the highway.

I have not seen anything like this in other cheaper brands of cars.

BMW COMFORT

These machines are jam-packed with high-end electronics. She herself will tell you when it will be time for you to call on the next Maintenance. Moreover, smart systems do this depending on how the car is operated. I also liked that right from on-board computer you can see exactly how your wheels are pumped up and what malfunctions are in the car. There is a sport mode, a comfortable ride mode and an eco mode.

To say that there is a whole bunch of comfortable lotions here is to say nothing. It concerns everything - the quality of the materials, the thoughtfulness of the detail, the design of the machine.

Even the most cheap cars BMW brands in the minimum package sometimes give you more interesting tricks than cheap brands in the full package. And given that now everything has become very expensive, BMW cars seem more interesting.

OTHER BMW FEATURES

As far as I know, all BMW cars have rear drive. And one more interesting detail. BMW is a brand with history and used to be engaged in the creation of engines for aviation. You understand, this is already a different league, practically aerospace technologies in civil engineering.

DRY RESIDUE

When you take new car from BMW, you pay good money. Yes it is. But the overpayment is not at all for the brand. You give money for a lot of technology, for a huge amount of innovation and your own safety and comfort, as well as a bunch of interesting gadgets. Not to mention, it's really, really cool.

If we consider the lineup BMW, it will take a very long time. Information about all the cars that were produced earlier and are being produced today is enough for the release of a whole book. However, it is worth talking about the most popular and high-quality models in more detail.

BMW 6 Series: The Beginning

Back in 1976, at the Geneva Motor Show, the attention of the public and experts was given to the BMW of the sixth series, which replaced the 3.0 CSi cars. The car, which then had to go out, received the designation "E 24". Its prototype was the models from the previous, fifth series - E 28 and E 12 (earlier version). New car received a very original "predatory" design, for which he was nicknamed the shark. As a matter of fact, the nature of the cars included in this BMW lineup corresponded appearance. Especially for these machines, the developers made brand new engines, which were given the name M 06. The first thing that went on sale was the 633CSi model, followed by the 630CS - just a month later.

An alternative to modernity

Even today, almost thirty years later, these cars are considered quite powerful and reliable - an indicator of 197 hp. not everyone can boast modern car some manufacturers. Having become popular due to the initial versions, the sixth BMW lineup began to develop. In 1978, the 635CSi car was released - its power was already 218 hp. After the new models, others were produced - the sports M 635CSi, the fast E24 635CSi. But in 1999, the production of the series was completed. And only in 2003 the concern introduced the second generation.

Sports cars from a German manufacturer

The BMW model range is not limited to coupes. The manufacturer is also famous for its sportswear. For example, one of the brightest representatives is the BMW i8, which was developed and created in just 36 months. This car looks like a car produced in a single copy, that is, exclusively. However, the model was released as a whole series. The car accelerates to “hundreds” in less than 4.5 seconds, delivering 362 hp. These are pretty solid numbers. And this is not the only car that BMW's sports lineup can boast of. There are many other cars that could surprise connoisseurs of fast driving: M3 GTS G-Power SK II Sporty Drive CS, M3 GTS G-Power, M3 GTR Street (E46), 435i Cabrio M Sport Package (F33), 435i Coupe (F32 ), as well as several dozen other items.

Latest news

Eminent German manufacturer never ceases to please automotive world new models. Each time they become better and better, only confirming their quality over and over again. Take, for example, the 2014 BMW lineup. One of the most "high-profile" new products was the M6 Gran Coupe - a car that embodies the technical innovations of M-Technik with a luxurious sporty design. One has only to glance over its technical characteristics, as everything becomes clear: Twin-Turbo V8 engine, acceleration to 100 km in just over 4 seconds, power of 552 hp. And such a model costs about four million rubles, if we talk about the simplest version. Another year 2014 was remembered for the release of a restyled version of the X3. The engine was updated (replaced with a more modern one), the interior was improved, several additional options. The exterior has also changed - the radiator grille has become more elegant, the headlights and the bumper have also changed.

From 1975 to 2012

What must a true BMW connoisseur be familiar with? 3 lineup, or the third series - it will be discussed about it. Starting from the year of the first car, the manufacturer has developed six generations of different models. The very first was the BMW E21 (1975-1983). I must say that these were pretty good sports sedans in their time. Next comes the E30 (1982-1994), represented by both station wagons and convertibles. After - BMW E36 (1990-1998), which has changed not only in terms of specifications, but also changed the body. It was replaced by the fourth generation E46 (1998-2006), the lineup of which consisted of coupes, convertibles, hatchbacks, sedans and station wagons. After the era of the BMW E90 / E91 / E92 / E93 (2005-2011) came and, finally, the F30 / F31 / F34 - the car of the latest generation. Every year, the lineup of which was presented above, became more and more perfect. One of the best representatives The latest generation is the BMW 3 Gran Turismo - an almost perfect ratio of high power, acceptable consumption, premium class and a fairly reasonable price.

Phenomenal "five"

The BMW 5 Series lineup also cannot be ignored. It is represented by dozens great cars. Take, for example, the BMW 540i Touring, produced from 1993 to 1997. Many people still want to buy this budget car with high power. Max speed this is enough old model is 250 km/h. Slightly more productive is the Touring (produced from 1997 to 2000). Although, of course, many make a choice in his favor, because, unlike the previous model, he has lower fuel consumption (a difference of several liters per 100 km). But if possible, then you should take the BMW M550d xDrive Touring. This car began to appear in 2013, and this five-door station wagon really combines best qualities, which only a well-known manufacturer can endow their machines with. Its power is 381 hp, and to reach the mark of 100 km / h, this model needs less than five seconds. And, of course, fuel consumption compared to all previous cars is simply ridiculous - only 5.5 l / 100 km outside the city and 7.7 - within it. But such a car is also not cheap - if you take a used one, then on average you will need to pay about 2,500,000 rubles.

most expensive car

Perhaps, if we talk about BMW, then we should talk about those models that are the most expensive in the entire model range of this manufacturer. So, 52 million rubles is worth such a machine as the M5 G-Power Hurricane RRs, released in 2012. The engine, whose power is equal to 830 hp, maximum speed - 372 km / h, acceleration to "hundreds" - in less than 4.5 seconds and a stylish design that will not leave anyone indifferent. This is just a small part of what makes this model from the rest of its “brothers” by brand, since its complete set includes several dozen different options.

Two-wheeled "iron horses"

The BMW concern, whose model range and car prices were discussed above, is also engaged in the production of motorcycles. And in this area, he succeeded. Take, for example, the C 600 Sport - one of the brightest representatives that offers buyers a range of BMW motorcycles. Its price is about 11 thousand dollars. The motorcycle is equipped with a powerful 647 cc two-cylinder engine, thanks to which it is powerful to develop on this scooter, it reaches 175 km / h. A more serious model is the BMW K 1600 GT. The cost of a motorcycle is equal to the price of a good car - for such vehicle the amount was set at 1,039,000 rubles. It develops more than 200 km / h at maximum, and consumes only 4.5 liters per hundred kilometers. One of the simplest modern BMW motorcycles is the F 650 GS model - its minimum price is 390,000 rubles. Fairly high speed (185 km / h), but low power and small volume. Great option for those people who are looking for an alternative to a car to get around the city. There are several dozen other models: F 700 GS, F 800 GS, G 650 GS Sertao, and many others.

On the subject of BMW cars and motorcycles, you can talk for a long time. Indeed, there is something to discuss. But in general, if a decision is made to purchase a vehicle of this brand, then in this case one thing can be said with certainty - the purchase will be justified.

The BMW M Sport Package, the most expensive of all offered by the automaker, is designed to highlight the sportiness of the car, emphasize its brightness and individuality among other vehicles.

The BMW M package includes special interior details that differ from standard BMW components, aggressive bumpers, original wheel bigger size wheels and special suspension.

We are talking about a sports M-suspension with a clearance lowered by 10-20 mm. It is perhaps the main difference from standard BMW cars from a technical point of view.

The wheels are usually fitted with low-profile sports tires.

Inside, the BMW M-Package includes aluminum inserts, sport seats, special steering wheel, black ceiling and Alcantara upholstery. There are also other personalization options at different prices to choose from.

The sports modifications developed by the BMW M GmbH division are very seriously reworked production cars. It assumes special motors of the M series, which are more powerful, more dynamic than other units, with a sports gearbox, gearbox and specific exhaust system, different from the units of high-volume BMW models.

The suspension of the M-modifications is also different than the suspension of the standard models of the brand, and wheel disks look different and have higher speed characteristics.

The interiors of the M series are finished with the finest materials.

Unlike the production version, the exterior of the M-version has its own special style, aerodynamic body kits are made in it, and the “gills” on the front fenders can be called the highlight of the exterior. The BMW M is also distinguished by the characteristic //M badging (2 stripes - blue and red).

However, this nameplate can often be found on ordinary BMWs, which have nothing to do with the “charged” M-series cars. In such a simple way, some unlucky motorists, apparently, are trying to add a little "status" to their image. We see no other reason.

Summing up, we note that cars with BMW package M Sport Packages are more expensive than regular cars, but much cheaper than BMW M-series.
